you made a post that talked about how space probably has different interpretations of the color pink than earth does, and was wondering on your opinion; do you think the galaxy views being trans or gay in a different light than earth?
hey babe. you ask an EXCELLENT question and i really appreciate you asking it here. i feel like for some people, this could be a really vulnerable question to pose — and if that’s you, i want to thank you extra hard for taking the risk of putting it into this space. i actually have VERY strong feelings about this and i try to infuse it in almost every fic i write (with varying levels of success). and on that note, i apologize for the novel I’m about to inflict on you.
the short answer is that i think most members of the intergalactic community have just come to naturally accept that there are countless genders and sexes and orientations and approaches to sexual congress and reproduction and relationships throughout the universe. like. we know groot reproduces asexually. kronans (in the two most recent thor movies) all seem to identify as men and reproduce with a partner by joining hands and standing in hot lava for three days (and i think we’re meant to take that literally). pete’s dated an a’askvariian and i feel pretty confident that while she was referred to as “female” she probably does not have a genital configuration that is a 1:1 match for anything human. i think of the biodiversity on earth — all the ways that lifeforms present, the different ways they reproduce and engage sexually (or don’t) — then i multiple that by infinity.
and as a result, i just can’t imagine that most of the intergalactic community has difficulty rolling with the concept of transitioning or fluidity or various orientations. i bet almost all of them have had at least one long- or short-term relationship with at least one individual who doesn’t match ANY gender construct indigenous to their own home-planet.
(as an aside, this is also one of the many reasons i don’t buy into any form of bodyshaming from our spacefaring marvel/mcu friends.)
now, there are probably still peoples that are more isolated and carry a lot of strong biases based on whatever passes for “acceptable” on their own planets, and carry those biases into space and are shitbags about it. but in general, i wholeheartedly believe there is not a word a person could use to describe themselves or their sexuality that the average space-traveler would so much as blink at. (i am operating under the assumption that there are also intergalactically-recognized standards and expectations around consent, too. while the universe is not perfect, we know from the comics that it’s generally considered more progressive than earth.)
my personal headcanons:
rocket is pan as hell and open to pretty much all body-types and genders and yeah, that includes ones that aren’t humanoid or based on earth-animals. while he’s shown as particularly appealing to feminine-presenting humanoid characters in the comics, his appreciation for different body types is well documented and i personally always try to point out that (imo) the comic-term “space princesses” includes a lot of (all?) genders. (i headcanon “space princesses” indicates a vibe, not a gender lol).
i usually write rocket as having a dick and referring to himself as a guy but that’s about as far as i go with assigning him a gender. would one thousand percent buy him as trans (i headcanon him as trans in rivals).
nebula is a thousand percent in a romantic/sexual relationship with mantis. i usually write her with she/her pronouns but will throw in someone calling her “mister nebula” when honorifics are used, and sometimes i also toy with the idea that nebula and mantis are in a throuple with kraglin who’s basically their platonic housewife. (if I hadn’t hyperfixated on rocket so hard, i’d have an enormous crush on nebs.)
speaking of krags, i’m pretty sure the canon implies that he’s got like eight wives on other planets and there’s a deleted scene where he basically proposes to Nebs. i like to think this is a common ravager thing (and not necessarily motivated by sex as much as companionship and convenience), but that krags in particular keeps in touch with all his wives, even when he never sees them again. i think he’s such a romantic at heart, but not particularly motivated by or even interested in sex.
i don’t care much about pete as a character but that guy’s pan too.
while i tend to write rocket with an f!oc or f!reader (in my smut specifically), i try to make it clear that he’s not gender-discriminating. the most recent chapter in cicatrix describes a conversation that rocket has with a former sexual partner who uses he/him pronouns. in the holiday gun show, there’s a brief reference to him being with a cyborg with a vibrating dick. in windfall, he implies having a pretty expansive library of experience with lots of different kind of genitalia lol. and there’s the countless references in tons of my fics to “space princesses of all genders.” i firmly believe that rocket is into a lot of different types and genders. that said , i do think it’s funny to occasionally write the intergalactic community being shocked by something like oral sex.
♡ thank you again for asking this question, nonnie. because it’s fascinating to me, because i love an opportunity to go on a fucken ninety-page rant about space-culture-headcanons, and because as i said before — for some people, this question can be really risky to ask when you’re uncertain of the answer.
anyway. that’s my perspective on gender and sexuality in the wider universe. i wish our own planet was on the same page.
(and i’m not giving up on that.)

the last one im adding just bc i saw a post about it right before i started answering this ask: the full moon doesnt make remus horny. its a traumatic experience for him and he associates it with everything he fears - pain and loosing control. for a few days before the full he feels sick and weak and he hates everything and sirius has to fight tooth and nail to just get him under a blanket for a cuddle. right after the full he is exhausted and in pain. the further from the full the easier it is to get him in the mood, basically. (i feel like im the only one. at least on this one post every response was the opposite. i read just one ff with a similar thing - where its the new moon that makes werewolves horny.) i am not opposed to remus being horny right after the full tho

【step by step】Easyi3C Host I3C adapter (1)

The I3C specification is managed by MIPI Alliance Inc. I3C also solves the problem of high power consumption of I2C. I3C becomes a low-power, low-cost and fast digital interface. Because the protocol is still very new, there are not many good tools on the market. The series of products launched by Easyi3C will fill this gap. Mapping Hardware to Software: Understanding Devicetrees
We learned how to enable and disable particular Zephyr subsystems using the "Kconfig" infrastructure in the previous blog post, "Getting Started With Zephyr: Kconfig." In particular, we looked at the Kconfig infrastructure's three primary components. To enable the LED subsystem, we first looked at an example of a Kconfig file and how the Kconfig infrastructure is constructed. Second, we observed how the Nordic VS Code Extension's GUI-based Kconfig interface can be used to enable or disable particular Zephyr subsystems. Lastly, we observed a way to modify Zephyr that can be integrated into systems that rely on CI/CD.
Adding support for communication buses and peripherals is a standard step in embedded software development, in addition to modifying an RTOS to enable or disable particular subsystems. Other MCU vendors integrate customization features into their IDE, such as enabling communication buses and configuring their parameters, as was discussed in the previous blog post. However, Zephyr also uses the "Devicetree," another construct from the Linux kernel (keep in mind that Kconfig also comes from the Linux kernel). Devicetree, or DT for short, is a data structure that describes hardware using its own language.
As ARM-based System-on-Chips (SoCs) and System-on-Modules (SoMs) running embedded Linux gained popularity, so did Devicetrees in embedded software. Bus designs that enabled automatically identifying the hardware connected to the CPU were used when Linux was first developed on Intel-based CPUs. The hardware did not need to be described in advance. However, new communication protocols and buses without any detection mechanism were introduced when ARM exploded onto the scene. As a result, the Linux kernel required a tool to recognize these buses and the devices they were connected to. Though Zephyr borrowed the devicetree concept from the Linux kernel, it is important to remember that Zephyr's use of the devicetree differs sufficiently from the Linux kernel.
BASIC SYNTAX
One of the most crucial things to keep in mind about the devicetree—which typically causes anxiety for embedded software engineers who are not familiar with Linux—is that it is neither magical nor enigmatic. All it is is a file with a vague structure. Each node in the file contains a specific set of definitions. Other nodes can include and reference a node. For instance, the LEDs found on a Nordic nRF52840 development kit are described in the following excerpt.

The "leds" node describes the four LEDs onboard the development kit.
As an aside, if you have experience with Linux, you will be familiar with the aforementioned "compatible" property. To control the GPIOs, Zephyr "finds" a device driver with a corresponding "compatible" value and calls the functions listed in the device driver. This is what you might assume right away, as I did. This isn't right! We will go into greater detail in the upcoming blog post about Zephyr's "bindings," which are its own methods for linking devicetree entries to source code. For the time being, it is important to keep in mind that Zephyr and Linux use devicetrees in sufficiently different ways.
Going back to our example, the four LEDs that the "leds" node mentions also mention nodes! For instance, in the line that follows, the "led0" node indicates the precise GPIO that is utilized to control that specific LED: led0: led_0 { gpios = <&gpio0 13 GPIO_ACTIVE_LOW>; label = “Green LED 0”;}
In the above example, GPIO0_13 controls LED0 on the board, an active low GPIO. This node consists of the following elements:
"led0" is the "node label", and is used to reference the Devicetree node.
“led_0” is the node's "full name." Typically, a node's full name consists of the node name and a unit address (for example, "my-node@12345678"), but a node without an address is acceptable as well (sometimes an address doesn't make sense, as is the case here).
·“gpios” is an example of a "property" of the "led0" node. A property is ultimately used by source code to control hardware in some manner. In this instance, the "gpios" property defines a GPIO port, pin, and the active state. The device driver uses this information to control the GPIO.
·“label” is also a property of the "led0" node. Specifically, the label property can retrieve a more descriptive name for a node. In this example, "Green LED 0" can reference the node instead of "led0".
DEVICETREE LOCATION AND HIERARCHY
An illustration of a devicetree node for the Nordic nRF52840 development kit's LEDs was shown in the section above. Looking through the various devicetrees in the Zephyr repository can be useful (we will see why in a future blog post). The Zephyr repository contains the devicetrees in two main locations. The "boards" directory in the corresponding processor architecture directory contains the devicetrees for the many boards that Zephyr supports. The top-level devicetree for the nRF52840 development kit, for instance, can be found under "boards/arm/nrf52840dk_nrf52840":
".dts" is the extension for the "top-level" devicetree file, and ".dtsi" is the extension for intermediate devicetree files that are referenced by the top-level devicetree. It is possible for intermediate devicetree files to contain other intermediate files. The node that represents the LEDs on the board is visible in the nRF52840 development kit's top-level devicetree file, "nrf52840dk_nrf52840.dts," when we open it in the example above!
If we scroll to the top of this file, we see the following statements: /dts-v1/;#include <nordic/nrf52840_qiaa.dtsi>#include "nrf52840dk_nrf52840-pinctrl.dtsi"
We discovered how to incorporate support for custom hardware into our Zephyr-based firmware using the "Devicetree" in this blog post. We learned how to describe LEDs on a board and specify the corresponding GPIOs from a "blinky" example. Additionally, we discovered where devicetree files are located within the Zephyr repository and how their arrangement enables the description of boards, beginning with the CPU.
Utilizing device drivers created by others is one of the biggest benefits of using devicetree files in Zephyr over other mechanisms provided by MCU vendors in their IDEs. Usually, we have to write driver code from scratch or import libraries in various MCU-specific environments and IDEs. Instead, we can take advantage of other people's work by using Zephyr's devicetrees and device driver model. We can concentrate on crafting our final application's business logic. We will examine Zephyr's internal workings in the upcoming blog post to learn how it uses devicetrees and how it varies from the Linux kernel.

Which ships do you take prompts for?
…so so so many. I’m a raging multi shipper and I’m in a lot of fandoms. It’s probably easier to say what I don’t ship.
*SPN: no Wincest or Samifer or Lucifer x anyone. I tend not to ship villains in general. I prefer a ship with either Dean or Cas or both but I’m open to Sam ships too.
*MDZS: no Xuexiao or really any Xue Yang ships (though I think I’d be okay with Xueyu). No Lancest, Niecest, Wencest, or Jiangcest (Wei Wuxian is NOT their blood relative so that doesn’t count for him.) I’m a little reluctant on most Jin Guangyao ships too tho I’ll do 3zun and variations there on. I tend not to like intergenerational stuff so tend to avoid older folks x juniors but I’ll ship the juniors together and depending on the ship I’d probably be willing to try?
*TGCF: …I kinda don’t get Qiurong but I’d be willing to try? But otherwise I think I’m good. I’d even be willing to do Bai Wuxiang ships as long as it’s understood it’s gonna be dark as fuck. No Xianle cousins as a ship. I think I’d struggle with Qi Rong in general but I’d give it a go. No Shicest. (This is a theme, I’m usually out on incest ships)
*SVSSS: other than family/relatives (like Tiankang jun x Luo Binghe) I can’t really think of any no’s? Im especially a proponent of Shen Qingqiu/Yuan harem rights. I’d rather not write Shen Jiu or Original Luo Binghe but…eh, I’m open.
*2ha: fuck Shi Mei. Not literally of course, but I really ain’t out here shipping Shi Mei with literally fucking anyone. Other than that I think I’m mostly game? Though I don’t remember some of the side characters that well, there were just too many names in that one big reveal about Xue what’s-his-name and Luo something-or-other.
*I’m not writing at all for Harry Potter anymore, because J.K. Rowling.
*DMBJ: I haven’t seen Mystic 9 yet so I don’t know those characters and can’t write for them yet; stick to folks in UN and TLTR and I’m probably good for most stuff? Except Wu Sanxing, and the villains, big ol’ nope.
*Qianqiu: until I reread and get a better sense of the side characters I’m pretty Yanshen only.
*Yuri in Ice: I don’t really like Otayuri, Yuri’s just too young for me to personally be comfortable shipping him. But the older folks I’m pretty open to multishipping them.
*Guardian: I’m pretty Weilan centric, I see Chuguo more familial/brotherly, and I haven’t really thought about other ships but idk try me? It’s fun to experiment.
*Leverage: anyone in the team x anyone else in the team, I’m game,
*Check Please: basically just Zimbits. I’d try other things, especially with Shitty, but no Kent Parson at all please.
*Star Wars: mostly JediStormPilotRose and permutations there of but idk I’d try other just about anything other than villains and LukeLeia. I am not familiar with Clone Wars or the Mandolarian and have only seen the movies (not Solo).
*Star Trek: I’ve never done much shippy writing for Star Trek but I’m certainly open to it. I’ve only written Spirk and McKirk, them as twosome or threesomes is good. I’d ship most of the original bridge crew in whatever configurations, really (note that I’m ToS specific, I’m not really into the new movies). I’ve not written for TNG at all but I think it’d be fun to explore. DS9 I’ve only written Miles/Julian but I’ll ship Julian with basically anyone and again I’d be happy to explore any of the main crew x any of the main crew, they all have such good chemistry I think it’d be fun. No Gul Dukat or Kai Winn. They should suffer alone. No Voyager or later series, I just haven’t seen them so I don’t know the characters.
*MCU: any hero x any other hero, in twos or threes or moresomes. I haven’t seen the last three or four movies (my last was…uh…Black Panther, or was Captain Marvel after that?). I’ve seen none of the TV shows except the first two episodes of Hawkeye. I definitely have a preference for the Captains (all three) and Clint but I’ve written World War 3some, Barbershop Quartet, and others. Also I do ship Thorki. Like I said my incest thing isn’t 100% (when they’re not blood relatives I tend not to care if they were raised together.) Deadpool is also fine but I’ve only seen the first, and I haven’t seen either Venom movie.
*Word of Honor: note I haven’t read TYK yet, but I’m open to virtually anything I guess? I’d prefer no Zhang Chengling x older folks. I favor Caoxiang, Wenzhou and Wenzhouyi.
*Other fandoms I’ll write for (most of which I have written for): Babylon 5, Voltron, Firefly, Gundam W, Psych, One Piece, Sherlock Holmes, Horatio Hornblower, any Jane Austen except Northanger Abbey (only cause I’ve never finished it oops), Love Nikki, Ruruoni Kenshin, Fushigi Yuugi, Those Years in Quest of Honor Mine, Slayers, Miraculous Ladybug, Doctor Who (9 and 10 era stuff only), Wheel of Time, the Elenium by David Eddings, Xanth, most but not all CLAMP franchises, The Witcher (but I’ve only seen the first six episodes), Slayers, Hercules, Xena…there’s others too. General note that none of this should be seen as judgement. I’m a pro-shipper. You do you and I will support you and cheer you on, I just won’t read it myself and would rather not write it, tho in truth I’ve never yet found the ship I wouldn’t at least try to write if something about the prompt caught my eye. Like, I HAVE written Wincest, and Wincestiel, and Winjimstiel, when the prompt had me interested. The worst thing that happens if you send me something that isn’t my thing is that I won’t write it, but I promise I won’t judge you or go on the rampage or anything. Shipping is awesome. Fandom is fun. I don’t have to like what others like and others don’t have to like what I like and it’s all good.
Second note: many of these fandoms I either never finished because of time and money and/or I haven’t really actively been in for a decade or more so I can’t promise my characterizations will be spot on or that I’ll remember every character.
Tl:dr I will write most things, though I generally avoid incest/blood relative shipping, cross-generational shipping, and shipping villains x the hero they hurt. I also usually don’t like cis-swaps. My AO3 list of fandoms I’ve written for has like 40 fandoms on it, I’ll write for any of them, and there’s stuff not on that list I’d also write. I will write m/m, m/f, f/f, non binary/non gendered/gender queer stuff, and poly. I’m pro-ship and pro-kink, send me whatever you feel like and if I like it, and know the characters, I’ll write it.

Have you ever told us what Mandala are and why you don't like them? Is it because they're new and now we have to see them everywhere as the standard way of portraying magic? I know Legends of Tomorrow, Justice League Dark (the animated movie) and the comics started doing once Doctor Strange (the live-action movie) was released.

Well, the first part? Not exactly.
A mandala is a geometric configuration of symbols. In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed for focusing attention of practitioners and adepts, as a spiritual guidance tool, for establishing a sacred space and as an aid to meditation and trance induction. In the Eastern religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Shintoism it is used as a map representing deities, or specially in the case of Shintoism, paradises, kami or actual shrines (via Wiki because I wouldn’t be able to explain properly).

You see, we Stephen fans have a problem with the MCU when it comes to magic. Mostly because we know the movies hate magic. It’s always overshadowed by science or has its potential reduced. In comics, magic is beautiful and heavily influenced by the artist. My favorite is Yu’s rainbow version, but you can also find Bendis’ chanting, classic Ditko’s yellow bolts and so on.
Basically, magic is fluid and, as such, I like the idea of being manipulated as a kind of energy. For instance, the Shield of the Seraphim in the MCU is, again, a mandala seal. In comics, it’s (usually) a transparent “bubble”
This is a personal matter, honestly. I think MCU’s magic is just too... rigid. Not elemental enough, not colorful enough. Not... magical enough. Don’t get me wrong, there are some spells whose seals are mandalas in comics. I just don’t like the idea of using it everywhere.
Perhaps it was indeed influenced by Hellblazer. But my standard to compare Stephen’s powers come mostly from games. In Marvel Heroes, Stephen had SO MANY comics-accurate skills. For instance, the Fangs of Farallah were literally purple fangs, just like these ones:

So yeah. This is how I imagine Stephen’s magic skills. He doesn’t rely that much on martial arts with shields. He does fight, that’s true. But mostly, he’s a sorcerer. How many sorcerers in media can fight? No. They cast spells. Fireballs (Flames of Faltine check), thunderbolts (Bolts of Balthakk check), winds (Winds of Watoomb check), snow (Icy Trendils of Ikthalon check). He has it all.
So yes. I’d rather have this approach in a live-action, but it is what it is. It bothered me for some time that the mandala fever came to comics. But now it’s more... 50/50.
I hope it doesn’t sound like I’m whining. This is just my hardcore level of love and devotion to Stephen’s lore speaking. Overall, I enjoy the MCU. I don’t complain that much haha

Morgan Stark loved her father. He was a legend to all but he was her hero. When he died, she knew. She knew but she didn’t get it. Often she would turn to Pepper and say, “Mommy lets go see Daddy in the workshop.” Pepper would smile sadly and say okay. She would watch as Morgan would begin to tinker with things in her father’s garage, sharing her thoughts from the day. For Pep, it was like Morgan knew her father was gone but she was actively trying to connect with his spirit. Morgan Stark missed her father, Tony Stark.
She never shook that habit. At 10 years old, she figured out how to configure Friday to display a hologram of her father through an old Iron Man helmet.
“Friday, I want to talk to my dad.” Morgan looked expectantly at the air in front of her awaiting the hologram.
“Miss Stark, you are aware I am only artificial intelligence. alright so a little more discussion on how extremis plays a role in my tony’s canon !

i never knew why the mcu didn’t go down this route with having tony merge with extremis but . . . okay whatever ! i remember nothing about im3 and that’s OKAY because all i’m saying is that to combat the villain he injects himself with extremis . to level the playing field but also to help with his INJURIES . idk why i capped that okay anyways .
so he has extremis . and his mind is more computer like than before but it also fucks with him mentally . in the comics , he’d see hallucinations of people who had died that he felt personally responsible for his deaths. he saw them and they’d give him relevant information that he subconsciously already kinda had a feeling about but consciously didn’t recognize it . also as his brain is more computer like , we see in iron maaaan 2005/8 before the civil war that tony post-extremis made some pretty morally dubious decisions ( such as incapacitating a villain by stopping their heart because it was seen as an effective method of getting results , only to start their heart back up again when he needed info ) . tony stark before extremis wouldn’t have done that . so i think on some level , extremis starts fucking up with hisssssss , what’s the word , morality ? yeah ! lack of a better word . more logical , straight lines than being curbed by emotions or empathy .
and in 2018 iron man the new run , while he no longer has extremis tony mentions he basically self engineered himself with some technology but he doesn’t FEEL HUMAN after his reboot and that’s something , i wanna touch upon as well tho not sure how to put it in his canon yet but the feelings of tony post extremis will have him like . . . not feeling human and battling with that humanity - seeking it in different , other ways .
but yeah extremis makes him ENHANCED but not without side effects and he has extremis in endgame and that’s what saves his life ^_^ !

SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING

The way this is staged is in the language of a big reveal in any other Marvel film, the tension rising, the exhalation when the question is asked. But it’s about pudding. This movie is fucking funny.
And all this raving is even before we get to the MCU integration. The surface level stuff is great, from all the alien tech to the fascinating motivations of the Vulture. But it’s Iron Man where it really shows off. This is a film that is incredibly sure of itself, and this surefootedness continues to an almost laughably great use of Tony Stark. Although he’s only in the movie for like five minutes, those five minutes serve as a mini Iron Man 4 in themselves; the end is an astonishingly succinct capper to years of character growth that couldn’t be done by any other series, but it’s the video call before the Staten Island Ferry bit that’s just taking the piss, with Tony arriving for two seconds to sum up his entire character arc in a couple of lines. Effortless stuff, that took ten years of effort.
All in all one of their very best, and one whose style and assuredness points to their future. The only things Homecoming falls short on – a slight lack of weight to Peter’s character, a slight lack of great action – can be remedied later. This is the first of the stories for this character, and while it helps that they can rely on and subvert years of audience expectations, this is still the best opening gambit for a series-within-a-series in the MCU since Guardians. This tone, this style, this skill, could make for ten Spider-Man movies, from boy to man, getting deeper and more emotionally resonant as they go on, building him up to the greatest hero that he always has been. I think that’s what they’re going to do. And if Homecoming is any indication, it is going to be Amazing.

Like, the movie literally shows us this country that's supposedly so advanced, with spies and people placed around the world, most likely putting their fingers in as many pies as possible, and an incredibly developed technology - which is frightening on many levels considering that UN or no Wakanda could blow up everything outside of its borders and people wouldn't know it until it happened -, but with a monarchist - and whatever other words could define it - governmental system that has revealed a lot of problems in its configuration. The tribes leader were literally being choked in the throne room and no one was doing anything, there was a destruction of a historical, scientific and cultural heritage being condoned by the new religious ceremony leader(???) just because the king ordered it. They would've literally tried taking over the entire non-black population (and where does that leave all the metis people? All the ones that are not white, but not black? Of middle eastern descendance? Of Asian one? Etc?) if the ex-monarch hadn't done something.
What I'm trying to ask if, what do you think of Wakanda being a good idea on paper but terrible in practice? True! Untrue? Something else?

This is a difficult subject to cover - you’re asking me to look at the political structure of a fictional society within a disenfranchised continent - and I’m uncertain if it’s possible to do a decent analysis without addressing heavy topics. Basically, I don’t want to sound like a privileged dickwad. So I guess what I can say is - this comes from someone with a (mostly decent) American-based education, and no formal study of pre-colonial customs and political structures in Africa. I apologise for any misconstrued ideas and more than welcome any corrections to those who know more about these subjects!
I like Wakanda on paper, mostly due to the fact that the majority of Africa got completely screwed in terms of historical treatment and I’m rooting for the continent’s people to gain their own voices again. Wakanda being such a huge thing in international popular culture might serve as an inspiration for someone who ends up being important to at least one country there. In that sense, I really like Wakanda - the idea that it can potentially inspire historically disenfranchised cultures in the real world. How practical that thought is, I’m not sure - I might just be too idealistic.
Dictatorships can happen in non-monarchies as well, which you know -- as the most famous examples in 20th century history are not monarchies. The issue that can appear in monarchies -- or dictatorships -- is the lack of checks and balances to help keep those in power from going overboard (or the populace not having enough manpower/arms to get a dictator-like-coup out, but that’s an entirely different discussion!)
From what we got in the movie, Wakanda does seem to lack those checks and balances and no ability to overrule a king’s command. It seemed that they never had any sort of Magna Carta in their history (which is far from a perfect document, but did start the precedent of limiting monarchical power), and it doesn’t seem there’s anything resembling a representative government with veto power over the leader that you see in, what, 2/3rds of the world these days? (I legit have no idea, but I do know it’s wide-spread.)
But why wouldn’t they have such a document limiting monarchical power or some sort of democratic process? The modern mindset across many countries around the world leans towards democracy and elected, representative governments. But it can’t be denied that colonialism helped spread this, as -- at least, according to wiki -- representative democracy/liberal democracy/Western democracy all originate in Europe. So, in some way it makes sense that they didn’t transition yet because they were never colonized, and they were completely self-contained so didn’t have any of the outside world conflicts to force them to make changes. France helped fund the barons who pushed for the Magna Carta. France was also responsible for helping fund/arm the US in their fight to gain independence (lol France vs England history, it’s so great). External conflicts with other regions/countries caused *changes* to happen in those societies, at least from what I know of European history. Possibly happened in other continents, but I’m just not knowledgeable enough about their histories to give specific examples.
Wakanda had no outside conflict, and with no outside conflict, you get one major source of problems eliminated. Civil wars happen for a multitude of reasons, but perhaps one of their solutions historically for kingship changing without civil war was the fight of a representative of a tribe to try and win it over. Who knows? But when you’re enclosed like Wakanda was, there’s a lot less chance of things changing.
(On that note - their selection of a new leader is also incredibly disproportionately unfair to women. The average man is physiologically stronger and faster than the average woman. It’s just--biology. But who knows, maybe Wakanda was the same as much of the rest of the world in terms of their thoughts of women leading in politics. There’s comic canon that could be different, but the MCU did a lot of changes from comic canon.)
A *lot* of things changed across the world in the 20th century, making the world much smaller. Before the 20th century, it was likely considered completely useless and nonviable to make war on other nations because, though they were more technologically advanced, it’s incredibly unlikely they had something akin to nuclear bombs in the 19th century. They had to have their own steps of progression. And if they were only *a bit* better, they couldn’t stop the entire world if they started attacking and word spread. It’s only in the late 20th, early 21st century that things like destroying the rest of the world with Wakandan weaponry was likely actually feasible. Though honestly? I don’t think that shield could withstand a nuke. I just don’t see it. If Erik’s plan went through, he may have doomed Wakanda's capital city to being utterly annihilated because too many countries do have the ultimate kill button, and there are some who would not hesitate to use it.
It also could be cultural. Wakanda didn’t go conquering their neighbors left and right. They were happy with five tribes and it seemed to remain five tribes. That speaks of something deeply cultural, deep within the roots of how they’re raised and taught. Erik came from an entirely different culture with a violent childhood and background, and because they were in the 21st century, other Wakandans could *learn* of the rest of the world, and get new ideas - and get the same anger that stirs war and revolutions, and ultimately can affect a country’s culture.
So perhaps before the 21st century, limited power with the king wasn’t needed simply due to their isolation. Now, though that they are much more connected with the world, maybe they need something more like Botswana or Nigeria, only tied in with a monarchy (according to wiki -- Elsewhere, in Botswana, the kgosis (or chieftains) of the various tribes are constitutionally empowered to serve as advisors within the national legislature as members of the Ntlo ya Dikgosi. Meanwhile, in Nigeria, the various traditional polities that currently exist are politically defined by way of the ceding of definite authority from the provincial governments, which in turn receive their powers to do so from a series of chieftaincy laws that have been legislatively created.)
So basically what I’m trying to say is, while I’m personally super gung ho about representative democracies and individual liberties, that’s not necessarily the culture of Wakanda and it may not fit for them. But *what* the culture of Wakanda evolves into, being more open to the rest of the world -- and thus, the rest of the world’s ideas and cultures, remains to be seen. They may find that they do need to reform their political structure after the civil war we saw in the first film, though, and perhaps they do so.

so yeah, following this scene from Loki episode 3 I’ve been thinking about how of course there’s gonna be Asgardian fairy tales that are basically the same as ours in terms of having, like, a main character who’s clever and courageous and kind-hearted, and by exercising these virtues they win treasure or an advantageous marriage or they break a curse or whatever. and I’ve been thinking about how Loki is so cynical about love, and how he was so cynical about Steve’s whole Captain America facade, and what if those were part of the same thing?
what if a young Loki decided he wanted the whole fairy tale romance thing, only to realize as he actually gets old enough for relationships that people only want him for his crown or his money or his connections? and that supposed fairy tale heroes are either just really good at crafting a public image or so committed to the letter of the law that they won’t even breathe funny?
and then he gets to Midgard and there’s this asshole in blue whose entire reputation revolves around being that fairy tale hero. clearly he’s the boring letter of the law sort, if he’s marching around dressed in his country’s flag and running off to perform additional duties when the rest of his team is taking a well-deserved break after their victory, but he’s also just gorgeous and that combination really gets under Loki’s skin. like what right does he have to be so close to a dream Loki (tells himself he) gave up on centuries ago? what right does he have to be so close to perfect and yet so decisively positioned against Loki?
nothing comes of it, of course. there’s only the briefest moment in time where each even knows the other exists before they both move on with their lives, so what could ever come of it? but in a timeline where Loki didn’t escape, we know it’s Steve Loki thinks of first out of all Thor’s new little Earth friends, and so even in the midst of everything going to shit on a universal scale, that one small glimmer of potential--of hope--lingers.

since apparently I can’t get to sleep until I put some actual positivity in the Loki spoilers tag, here’s some things I liked about the finale:
1) that whole kintsugi aesthetic in the Citadel at the End of Time? where so much was broken or crumbling that it looked like the intact parts had been pieced back together from the rubble? fucking flawless
2) He Who Remains: that man was cuckoopants bananas in a way where I actually bought him being smart, unlike Thanos who was somehow both a flat earther and an ecofascist at the same time with far more power than either should have. if He Who Remains had said he already knew he’d wind up back in the Citadel because it had happened before, I’d have believed him.
3) there are a handful of ships in this fandom which I refuse to acknowledge as canon, but sylki isn’t one of them! I feel like they actually put some effort into making it believable, and I can respect that even if my OTP lies elsewhere.
3a) god though, Loki’s only concern being another person’s well-being/the otherwise ruthless Sylvie sending Loki somewhere she assumes he’ll be safe instead of killing him when he gets in her way is such good character development for both of them
4) given Loki’s history in both the MCU and the comics of using one danger to keep another at bay, or one misdeed to prevent a greater one, it makes sense that he’d want to stop and think about the timeline situation rather than jump right to an irreversible decision. Sylvie was obviously still right to prioritize free will over safety in a cage, but Loki’s position is understandable for where he is right now, development-wise.
5) Mobius trying to have a badass moment and Ravonna just clocking him (no pun intended) was pretty funny, you guys
6) but does her having that pen mean Ravonna has her pre-TVA memories, or was she just allowed to read her own file once she got the right promotion? something to think about while we wait for Season 2 ��
7) B-15 and Mobius working together to get the truth about the TVA out after so consistently butting heads at the start of the show...!
8) the way the timeline has already branched so comprehensively in the limited time it took for He Who Remains to finish his spiel and Loki and Sylvie to fight over it that even the once-inviolate TVA is now duplicated!
