- Firstly, this is Rippleglow. I adopted her from the lovely @/mapleferns on insta! The og adopt is near the bottom of the page but!!! Idk what she's gonna be used for but man she pretty! As for her character I'm making her a positive, spacey, and very ditsy warrior. No thoughts in her brain other than the weather is nice that day. Would rather watch birds sing than fight. A good moderator, and had a tendency to daydream. Some younger cats think that they are visions from Starclan but most older cats think that she has bees in her brain. No one really knows which one of those statements is real though. Rippleglow also gets along with the clan grumps lolol.

- A revenge for V1NN13W1NN13 on artfight. Look at this baby cattttt v good ajakksf.

- NOCO TDI WARRIOR CATS. I actually have a growing list for the td characters as warrior cats in my notes. Do the clan dynamics work when considering other clans? Not really, but I'm living my best life here aight. Noah is Longnettle here, I couldn't think of a better prefix that flowed okay that fit with Nettle so. Boy be Longnettle. He's the clan medicine cat. Kinda got tossed in with not enough training (Chef is the deputy now) so a lot of his methods, while work, are questionable. Great at the medicine part of his job though. Doesn't really communicate with Starclan unless they forcefully enter Longnettle's dreams or if there's an emergency. Surprisingly popular among his clanmates despite his very prickly personality and does have a big soft spot for Sweetfang.

As for Sweetfang (Cody), poor guy is constantly in the medicine den. Not sure if he's accident prone or really good at getting hurt. Was once mauled by a badger and survived, the majority of his scars are from that. Despite being one of the older cats in the clan, he's very small and fluffy so he often gets mistaken for being an apprentice. He also lives up to his name and loves sweet things. So some berries and flowers, but mainly honey. He doesn't care if he gets stung, he's probably going to try to get that hive. But sometimes it's easier to pester Longnettle. Sweetfang almost sees befriending the med cat a challenge, it's exciting. But to everyone else, they just need to figure out their feelings because it's obvious from the outside. With the exception of the weird she-cat that's been living on the edge of their territory. She has a warrior name though she doesn't have a clan and she's freaking Sweetfang out.

Hello! I was wondering if you could help me out with something. I'm Plains Cree and I'm working on a project to write/draw a story for my little siblings/cousins. It takes place in a kind of candyland version of Alberta and the main character is a Plains Cree woman (who at the moment I'm referring to as the Queen of Candy). For some reason, naming characters is always so fucking difficult for me and I just CANNOT think up a name for her! I understand if you ignore this or something but do you maybe have any suggestions as to what I could name her? Thank you in advance if you answer this!

Sîwâs-okimâwskwew (this is just if you want a literal translation for "queen candy" or if you want to use it as a title)?

Sîwisiw (means essentially like "sweetheart" or "She is sweet")

Sîsipâskwat ("maple candy" or "maple sugar")

Mitêhimina (this just means "strawberry", but strawberries feature a lot in both European AND Cree sweets and desserts, and it literally means "heart berry", so I think it's a fun reference)

Âmô (this just means "bee", but in name it would be like making a reference to someone who makes something sweet)

Naminâs (could mean like "sugar syrup" or "molasses" but I think it's fun because phonetically it sounds similar to saying "num nums", which is usually said to small children to mean "food")

I saw you are working on a grimdark apocalypse and as a fan of both Warhammer and fallout I would like to hear about your story but with one caveat:

You also have to answer if mothman exists in that universe

But also please tell me I wanna learn about the story

I mean, there isn't a mothman, but then again I do really like stealing being inspired by things and putting them in there. And like, I AM GOD, so I could just do that. Right now.

I mean, can't be like a magical cryptid mothguy since this is a hard scifi setting. So how can I gnaw off the sharp corners to make this square peg fit into a round hole?

What are the fundamental qualities of mothman? Large humanoid moth, portends of doom, west virginians, sexy, glowing red eyes, easily confused for a large heron.

There are no six foot tall insects in my setting because there isn't enough oxygen for them to breathe without lungs. But there are flesh-filled biohybrid robots with plastic exoskeletons, which is kinda like a bug. If you think about it.

Since it's a robot with both flesh and mechanical components, we don't even need to worry about bioluminescence or if it's possible to see out of eyes that are glowing. It could straight up just have actual red tinted flood lamps on it's head for that iconic mothman glowing eyes look.

The internet says that a average man would need a wingspan of 6.7m (22ft) to fly, though some sources can go up to 80 feet or some shit. But the mothman could probably be a lot less dense than a human so wouldn't need wings quite that big. But also that's probably based on bird or plane wings, not insect wings. As we all know bees cannot fly by any known laws of aviation, because they fly by different laws considering that they are not aircraft. I don't know what those laws are, though. So this is the kind of problem we biologists like to call "as a biophysicist" problems. I'm not on good terms with any of them. So let's just say our mothman has completely mysterious and indeterminately sized wings.

So, some West Virginians ~400,000 years ago (the story is set ~400,000 years after whichever of the many imminent apocalypses befalls us) got access to some cool hyperintelligent artificial intelligence with the ability to create life (such AI may or may not be related to said apocalypse that befell us). And they used it to make a cool mothman robot thing. For the obvious reason why West Virginians would do that. It's designed to perform and improvise on it's own maintenance to safe costs, because West Virginia.

Oh, no! It got out of it's enclosure in the Pleasant Point petting zoo! Because someone let it out! Who would do such a thing??!!

So it's been spending the apocalypse hanging around bridges and staring at people ominously in the fog while tour-guide infodumping about 21st century cryptozoology in dead languages no one understands. Doesn't try to kill anyone though, since it's designed to be an entertainment animatronic, which is more than what can be said for the vast majority of monsters in the setting. But that's also why it's survived for so long, doesn't like confrontation. Just flies away mysteriously. It eats nuts and berries or something.

okay my biggest regret for this letter is that I don't actually have enough platonics to fit in here, like really major platonics because they all went to the familials AHDHFHSJDJJS but hey as long as i have someone, i'm more than willing to talk about them 💚

im gonna throw a little curveball here and start off with hero! before i got into poke.mon wholely, i was in a very deep o.mori mood. i loved the game so much, i played it blind and found myself to really adore hero. words cannot describe how happy i feel when i see him. he's a nice mix of comfort character and platonic f/o to me. i think he's the first guy that made me really feel so attached to him and talk about him like he was my best friend - i was literally branded as the hero friend in my circle just because of it 😭 as i played the game, i couldn't help but feel so connected to him. he's so mature, he's a great big brother, hilariously the charming type and he's not big headed. he's in fact a little self insecure... and part of me really just understood him well there. my sympathy and care for him grew all the more when i see him in the current timeline, especially what he had to go through for mari and kel. i remember being so happy when i saw overworld hero debut for the first time, heck i'm pretty sure i almost teared up in joy. hero is most definitely the highlight of my o.mori journey, his character just so happened to connect to so many favorite little topics i liked (him with sharks? cooking? love interest in mari?) so many things to love about him! its safe to say that hero is truly the first platonic i ever cared so deeply for. i'm a little sad that I don't have that spark at the moment to go back to him due to fandom jumps but just know that i'm absolutely down to talk about hero anytime

anndddd of course, as many of you all expected... it's blue! if not appleshipping, then it's the silly caramelapple goofies! blue was not gonna escape my grip if i were to romantic f/o red. like come on, this guy is the second closest to being associated with red. but that aside - i really like sun and moon blue more! i'm not exactly too fond of his younger alternative but for the character development i 100 respect him. sun and moon blue however is just the perfect mixture of - fun, mature and cocky. he's a bit of a flashy guy but at least he knows how to hold his ground. blue is just cool. he's definitely a lot more sociable than red but that's what makes the dynamic even funner! with jaide inserted in the group he becomes the token responsible adult and i think its funny 💚

(jaide stone is on the far left) if im being honest... reading poke.spe is not the same to me anymore because i always have the pok.espe parents in my brain no matter what. it can be over the littlest, trivial things yet my brain will go "ooh, what would maroon/clear do in here" like genuinely a lot of our fanon ideas are just real to me at this point. red has a brother?? fuck yeah dude. crystal's mom is meh but her divorced husband is better?? yeah. yeah REAL. the best part about having clear and maroon close to me is that i actually tend to imagine what would jaide be doing with them together, i mean clear has a little connection to d.evon corp and that's already a great bridge to ponder over how jaide and clear interacts. we may have not written anything TOO canon yet but the ideas are there. and then there's maroon with red meeting gold. there's a perfect bridge to make jaide at least interact with them. i know we're just floating on the bridge of ideas and we didn't actually canonize as much with the parents together but it's just so fun to think about, y'know?? maroon and clear are just written so amazingly well to me and well we're here to deliver therapy to our kids 🤧🤧 i promise you there's a lot of times where i wanted to cook smth that unites all 3 of them together but I just didn't have the time 😭 btw maroon is definitely the person i'd run to for comfort because she wouldn't judge no matter what and would find a way to comfort and of course give a nice nice delicious meal. clear is probably a little more difficult to befriend but if i imagine if you at least get past his cold ice exterior he's a very sweet man (and maroon can vouch for that ☝️☝️)

Today was a really nice day. Like I had a lot of fun and I felt really fulfilled. It was the best day I had all week. And that just made me really happy.

It was a tough start though. I struggled to fall asleep and I struggled to get up. I would end up sleeping in an extra half hour because the idea of getting up was so horrible. I was so sleepy.

But I pulled it together. I felt cute. I love my overalls. I was tired but I was in a good mood once I got to camp.

The drive in wasn't bad. I had gotten extra hugs from James. I would slowly feel more normal.

When I got to camp I would jump right into the office to work on the document for my program tonight. I wrote up a little description of how to work with polymer clay. And did a little research into art making as revolutionary act. I found some good quotes from people smarter than me. And I felt like I made a pretty solid worksheet for the people who take my class this evening.

As I was finishing printing that I would eat my breakfast. My stomach is doing a lot better, bread isn't hurting me as much. But I still feel like weirdly aware of my stomach. I don't really know how else to explain. I just feel very aware?

But it wasn't bothering me for the majority of the day. The thing that bothered me was the pollen. At times I am not able to catch my breath and I start coughing hardcore. Not comfy!! But also not constant thankfully. It is still so crazy seeing the pollen come off the trees in clouds.

Everyone else started coming in. And I decided to let my upset feelings from last week go. I would make the office a nicer space. I would talk to everyone and felt so much more secure. It was a nice day. We were looking forward to a good group and a good day.

I would wander up to the hacienda before everyone else. Cleaned up a few things that were left from yesterday. And set up some chairs on the porch to watch for the bus. Accidently scared Elizabeth when she came out to the porch a little later. We talked about the pool and the upcoming weeks. And very soon the group was here!

This was a very nice group. Apparently they are very competitive and in the other programs that came up. But we were going on a hike. And I had the very best time.

I would go on 4, 45 minute hikes. So basically 3 hours of hiking. And I think I did a really great job making it mainly downhill. And a very slow pace. With lots of exploring. It was also just really nice feeling super knowledgeable. I was able to create a pretty solid script in the first hike, that I would just continue and build on in each subsequent hike. It was awesome.

We would start with ground rules. No running ahead of me. No screaming. No picking of flowers or plants. Leave the critters alone. Have fun.

Our first stop was down the main drive way to peeps mill. Where we talked about the former trout hatchery and the edible plants we might see. The skunk cabbage being one. And the wine berry bushes being the other. I talked about the history of both the wine berry bushes and the Boston ferns and how invasive species can be an issue.

We next would look at mushrooms. We found a new to me mushroom! A crowned capped corral mushroom! I was really excited about this. We would also look at turkey tail mushrooms and even a chicken of the woods. Really awesome.

We would arrive at the Glen and I would talk about the bee hotel and the bug snug. We learned about solitary bugs and overwintering.

We would spend some time at the pond down there. There was a frog just sitting with a whole bunch of eggs for most of the day so I was able to keep pointing at the same frog. We would watch him for a bit. And then over to the picnic table to look at the bones we had found a few weeks ago.

A few minutes searching under logs and rocks for bugs. Looking at slugs and snail eggs. More mushrooms. Continuing on to see the dying trees and the damage that termites can do. Once we made it home the hill we would stop at the tipi field before heading down to the Van Horne pass. Where we would look at mountain laurel and deer tracks.

And finally we would go to frog hollow where we saw tadpoles and caterpillars and one group even found a grey tree frog!

And finally I took them to the office to switch off with Nick so they could go to their next program.

And it was such a good little hike. There would be a lot to see, everyone seemed super interested and having a good time. While a few kids I could hear say that this was the most boring part of the day for them, I heard way more of them say this was there favorite part and they had so much fun. And I did too. I heard some parents and chaperones say they learned a lot and that felt awesome.

There were some not as ideal moments. A child who ran into my outstretched arm when I was pointing at something. Hurt us both. Someone got a cut on their leg. A little boy threw his plastic water bottle into the woods and I was so shocked and said he had to get it but it was deep in a thicket, and his teacher made him try for multiple minutes. But no luck retrieving it. Hopefully he learned from that and won't do it again.

During the last program block one of my chaperones looked like she was going to pass out. It has gotten very hot and she was not used to walking the way I had them going. I think the one hill was what got her and she just never recovered. So I would cut the last five minutes and sent them to the hacienda to sit in the air conditioner. I thanked them all for coming and went to chill in the office.

Not that it was cool in there. We don't have the AC set up yet. But at least I was sitting and I was drinking water and letting my body cool off. I was very sweaty and dirty. I would be thrilled to go home.

But that was not yet. Was not rushing anywhere. I would drive the gator up with Nick to the hacienda to clean up and I would collect the trash and the last couple Native American program items. Sarah would join us and we put the tables and chairs away and cleaned. I would go take things to the dumpster and put away the field trip things. It was nice to drive around but the breeze wasn't as good as yesterday.

I would go back to the office and chatted with Alexi for a while. Then with Elizabeth and Sarah. But there wasn't anything I needed to do for tomorrows feild trip. So I would get to leave a half hour early. And that was perfect.

I would go to Taco Bell. I thought it would be the quicked meal before my workshop while still leaving time for me to shower and change.

And it was some annoying traffic but it was fine. I arrived at Taco Bell at 415. And was home by 440. I would eat the nacho fries I got while I drove and waited until after I showered and changed to have my tacos.

When I got back here parking was tough but I parked, and went and quickly showered. I got changed into a nice jumpsuit and after fixing my makeup I would go sit at the kitchen island to eat.

James came home during that. Loved that we got a little time together. We would sit on the couch and just chilled until I had to leave.

They helped me bring my basket of materials to the car and wished me luck.

I was in a great mood. I was still nervous but also. Ah! Super excited. I would get a pretty good parking spot and went to set up.

The afternoon school program was finishing up. And I would move some tables and set up and was surprised no one was at the front desk. Strange.

People would start coming though. There was another Jessy, and she was very nice. She works for creative alliance and was able to call Lucy over at the other building to come be our check in person. They would let me know that I had 7 sign ups! Incredible. Jessy let me know one of them wouldn't be coming (their mom who has a migraine) but the other 6 would come and it was so good!!

I would also a lot about stuff I wrote about in grad school. The woman as anonymous making. The hierarchy of crafts and fine arts. Museum stuff. And then we talked about polymers. Plastics. Techniques. Tips. Tricks. And then it was time to explore!! Create! And it was so lovely to see them all work. 4 of them knew each other and all worked tangentially in medicine. From writing to Medicare to psychology. Jessy, like I said, worked at creative alliance in the marketing department so she was taking lots of pictures. And the last woman was her friend and it turned out she also worked in a tangential medicine, getting healthcare for the homeless. What a really neat group of women.

We would all create and try things and play. We talked a little how we might use these things. And it was so interesting to see how they all approached things. From form based coasters, to frog and cat portraits, to a bird sculpture! I loved seeing all the different approaches and it was great. I just got to make my own silly thing and give tips and tricks and suggestions. It was great.

At 730 we would get the oven going. Which was not the type of oven I have used before but I would eventually figure it out and we baked the pieces that were ready. I had provided little tins so they can baked them at home if they wanted. And I think that was the best plan. While they baked we would clean up and chat and it was fun.

And once the sculptures were done and cool I handed them out. We talked about trouble shooting. And then it was time to go. I thanked them all and hoped they would come to the next one. And then it was time to go.

I was just in such a happy mood. And when I got home I was able to park right in front of the house. Incredible.

James would help me and bring in my program materials. And once they were done with what they were doing in the kitchen they would sit in the studio with me while I vacuumed the frog tank and fed everyone. And they helped me sort my materials so I could get everything out away. It was a lovely evening.

I took a cool bath. And would hang out in the AC and started winding down for sleep. And now James is here, showered and ready for bed. And man am I ready to sleep.

I'm going to go brush my teeth and hopefully fall asleep asap. Tomorrow is another full day. And I really hope it is fun. We have a field trip and I'm leading low ropes. And then it's Charlotte's birthday! And we are going to dinner at the Fulwilers. And Callie will be there and I'm very excited to hang out with her.

(Context Grian and Scar live in the country side, and own up to 10-12 acres of land)

The three headed in the backyard, (they snuck in threw the front yard) It was huge, there was a pool, a hot tub, and a pool house, as well as and outside bar and grill stand, behind it was what looked to estimated 522,720 ft of an orchard. (yes I did the math)

There were apple trees, orange trees, cherry trees, mango trees, banana trees, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, black berries, carrots, greens, potatoes, turnips, and radishes, all with their own sections. In very middle of all of it, there was looked to be a green house, a chick coop, with all sorts of breeds of chickens, and six bee farms.

“How rich are these guys” Tubbo commented.

“Very, they must sale as this in the market of every harvesting” Ranboo replied.

“So this where they get their eggs” Tomm said, heading towards the chicken coop.

(The chick coop contains two doors, a door get in a fence in outside area, and another door where the chickens are kept)

Tommy tries to open the first door, only to be disappointed that it had a lock.

“Guess they really care for their animals, so that people like Tommy can’t get in” Tubbo whispered to Ranboo.

Ranboo chuckled

Three then went over to the cherry trees section. Ranboo picked a couple of fresh cherries, and shared them with Tommy and Tubbo.

“These are delicious, they’re so juicy. They must really take good care of there crops too” Tubbo said, as he munched on the cherries.

The three went back to house, to see Grian and Scar making lunch. They seem to be making fried fish, smashed potatoes and gravy, and salad.

“How was everything” Scar asked.

“It was awesome” Tommy replied.

“Yeah and it was fun” Ranboo followed.

“Well go wash up, lunch will be ready soon” Grian said.

The three did has they were told and went to their bathroom in the guest bedroom to clean up.

When went back, their food plates were already sitting on the table. They all say next to and beside each other, as they began to eat.

“I caught these fish at the lake near by” Scar said, trying to start up a conversation.

“Well they are delicious” Ranboo responded.

“Thank you” Scar replied.

“So tell me, how did you enjoy everything, which was your favorite part of all of it” Grian asked.

“I liked the bees” Tubbo replied excitedly.

“I take it you like bees” Scar chuckled.

“I LOVE them” Tubbo responded.

“Well I liked Jellie’s cat room, Grian wasn’t kidding, when he said that you love spoil her” Ranboo said.

“GRIAN” Scar shouted out of embarrassment.

“What it’s true, you treat her like a queen. You literally got her, her own personal groomer and an animal spa ID card, not to mention that she’s on a raw meat diet and you take her to a cat cafe every Saturday, sometimes I think you bring her there more then you bring me, led alone spend more on her then on me” Grian argued jokingly.

“Well anyways, mine were the chickens, but couldn’t go in because it was locked” Tommy said.

“Oh yeah, we have all sorts of wild animals, including coyotes, that have learned to open the doors, so we had to put locks on them” Scar explained.

“I see” Tommy responded.

The rest of the lunch went on without much more conversation. But needless to say, Tubbo, Tommy, and Ranboo, all felt at home.

Briefly, the Planning Committee wondered if was right to ask Pippin to work at Frodo’s wedding, but it did not take long for them to agree that Pippin delighted in being seen and heard, and indeed they were not wrong: Pippin showed up with fiddle and sheet-music before they had even finished asking him.

At the pub, Gaffer laments that a daughter marrying into the gentry is not the boon everyone thinks it is – at least not in the short term – because of the "little matter" of the wedding gifts.

“If this ankle doesn’t a-meel-yore-ate anytime soon, I won’t be able to walk Mari down that aisle,” gruffed the Gaffer, raising his foot to the table for Sam to see. The bee sting shone red and lurid, like a ripe berry. “I might have to della-gate that bit to you, son.”

Sam considered for a moment, his heart sprinting in secret, the thought of walking down the aisle towards Frodo.

“No chance that a father of mine’s going to be missing out on that walk," he shook his head. "You keep off your feet all week, and I’ll ask Mari to make you a compress.”

There were, of course, a few other things that caused Marigold a great deal of distress, and those Sam would not reveal even under the influence of drink. For instance, that the Gaffer had made him read every line in the marriage contract twice in case “not all that glittered was gold,” and that even though Frodo was paying for the wedding and had declined a dowry, the Gamgees were still scouring their coffers and calling in favors and stretching their budgets as thin as threadpaper to make sure that their gifts to the couple did not look wretched alongside those from the Brandybucks and Tooks.

Hobbits do not use wedding rings - far too much risk that they’ll get lost while gardening. Marigold wearing a ring is also out of the question - not only bad memories for Frodo, but she is far too busy with her hands. As a result, Marigold gets Belladonna Took's necklace as an engagement gift - it has a choker and cameo design with a locket. Everyone has something to say about it: some think it too dear and too fancy, some think it not nearly dear enough. Marigold likes it because it is understated and does not clash with her existing outfits.

Pippin likes to catch the bouquets at weddings, so his only ask of Frodo and Marigold is that Marigold throw her bouquet to him. When they wonder why he wants that, Pippin announces proudly that he’s caught four bouquets at weddings already, and it leads to jolly good fun, because there’s no better way to get a bevy of indignant lasses to chase him, and if he’s lucky, pile on top of him. He then adds that weddings are a “great way to meet people.” Frodo shakes his head and reminds Pippin that he isn’t even of age yet.

“Marigold, how are you at throwing?" Pippin asked.

“Passing fair, I reckon,” she replied uncertainly. “I have three brothers.”

I loved writing the surprise birthday party in this for many reasons. for one thing it felt natural after I wrote about wilbur throwing tommy a birthday party in nocturnal animals, and also I wrote honey and tangerines over the course of the summer. in a way that timeline of tangerines followed real time, because I wrote the wilbur surprise birthday party in mid to late september which is roughly around cc!wilbur's actual bday (yes yes I know he could be lying about his birthday but it's the one we all go with) so it just felt very fitting time-wise

I'm never going to publicly reveal my old ao3 (not really out of embarrassment but bc I don't want people I know from that account to find out I'm writing mcyt fic bc I will legitimately lose friends), but on that old ao3 when I was 16 I wrote a voltron chatfic. and it got somewhat popular. not super popular or anything, but it was my most popular fic up until I started writing for mcyt and it's how I really learned how to write humor. anyway the voltron fandom was the worst fandom experience I've ever had and I hated the ship the chatfic was centered on by the time I finished it bc the fandom was just so goddamn annoying about it. anyway yeah I can't write chatfic anymore it brings back war memories LMAO

I love cider man I love going to a bar and getting a nice cold cider if there isn't any beer I want. it's just so refreshing! and yes not all of it tastes like apples! I had a pineapple cider at a bar recently and it was so good

I'm so glad I write the music in my fics well, I try so hard to integrate it in a way that feels natural and doesn't pull the reader out of the scene

bittersweet symphony is a song that means a lot to me for many reasons so I usually have a rule to never include it in anything I write so it just stays as something for me, but it fit too perfectly for this fic for me to not throw in there and I'm so glad I did

Another question that comes to mind - how did you come to title the book and series? Do you have thoughts on how it has evolved?

When I first sat down to seriously consider this series and my characters and world, the first idea I had at the core of it was "these are people who have gone through things people should not, and there are characters very different to each other that by the end of the series, probably have little in common, except for one thing: they are made from clay, as all living things are." I took inspiration from Greek myth and how humans were built from clay and given fire. Hence, I started off wanting to name my series Bones of Clay. Didn't really like it so much, neither did my friends when I posed it to them, and so I settled for a while on Hearts of Clay, which seemed more fitting to the themes and the romance sub-plot that's always running underneath it all. Because the whole mix of this series' aesthetic, I guess, is a bit of a strange one. It's the 1920s of another universe, where dragons are real and almost every magical thing you can think of, but there's also a fantasy mafia of werewolves, but also a royalty plot, but also there's a cult, but also also there's romance and saving the world from great evil and prophecies. This is kind of why it has to be a series with shifting focus. And because the books follow Zena Moralis' journey through all that, I named each book, in order: The Return, The Rise, The Tragedy, and The Fall. With each book's purpose quite clearly, explicitly set out for both her and some other characters, including Geronimo.

Nearly a month ago, I decided I had to rewrite the draft I had because nothing was going the direction I wanted and since the months I had left it abandoned my style had changed and so had a lot of my ideas and direction. By then, I had quit things with my writing partner, and it helped spur on this idea that I wanted to make my series anew. It needed a new name. I actually recruited my sisters to help me when I was outlining in my notebook. I sat down on a bean bag and said I needed them to give feedback on some book title ideas I'd jotted down. From there, we narrowed the list and the themes and direction -- they insisted on knowing what the series is about, basically, and all the key events of each book -- and we came up with a new titles: Bones Of A God, Skin Of A Jewel Snake, Blood Of A Moon, and Heart Of A Clay Hourglass. From there we went: these are all ingredients to something, but what? And in the end, it was unanimous that this was what made a Moralis. Specifically, Zena Moralis. It's the weirdest, kind of hair-brained, out-there things considering I have not written out this entire series yet, but it made me decide that this would have to be the Moralis series. Because, Moralis: bones of a god, skin of a jewel snake, blood of a moon, and heart of a clay hourglass. Geronimo is indeed the other main character, but this is still Zena's story.

A lot of the original ideas have carried over, as you can see. If we played word association with how I think of the series, it'd look something like: hourglass, immortality, time, love, betrayal, politics, blood, forests, myths, gods, siblings, patricide, loyalty, swords, sun, compass, stars, void, war, grief, death. The very earliest draft I ever wrote of this was when I was about 13, and even back then there was political drama and looming war, but also love and, well, dragons and strange fantasy plants and pink bees that drink fruit juice that I called "berry blies". I have to say, 13-year-old me was on another level. And until now, I was planning to write this series as Young Adult and then let marketing put it into YA Fantasy or Sci-Fi or Supernatural or wherever it wanted the books to go. But with all the stuff I want to do, the topics and themes I want to tackle, it just makes more sense for it to be an adult series. I feel we have a lot of (possibly questionable at times) YA fiction books, and some trashy adult ones that are either too stuffy or full of toxic contemporary romance or just fairy porn. I know some that aren't (Leigh Bardugo's Ninth House and Hell Bent comes to mind) but I wanted to add to the area in my own way. Folks always say to write what you'd want to read, and I'd want to read adult fantasy, because I've grown past the teenager stage and, honestly, have been finding it harder to relate to some of those YA books even now when I've barely hit 20. Roundabout way of doing it, but this genre sort of change also influenced the titles.

Admittedly, the titles of the books feel like they border on too fantastical at times, but they fit better than the old ones did. It seemed too boring to have such plain titles.

All in all, my thoughts on how this has evolved is... it's kind of incredible. And I'm a little scared that the longer I leave this world and these characters (it's already been about 7 years), the more it will change still, and then I will never be done with it. I'm kind of at a point where I want these books done and out to the world so that I can have new ideas for new worlds and stop expanding this one, otherwise it feels like too big a beast for me to write, period. The way the titles have evolved reflect too how much more this series is coming into itself though. I build this story, of course, but at the same time the naming process and the writing feels kind of like an excavation where the more I write and alter things just a bit, the closer we get to the true image I see in my mind.

I am here to ask about the antrocyanins

So I am in this game of an rpg system called Stars Without Number which is really cool, it takes place in outer space and you can play as an alien which is what I did. I said "I want him to be the kind of alien where that's just a human looking guy in the right lighting." So I made a heroforge and gave him pinkish skin that looks passably pale under a halogen light, and hair long enough to hide his pointed ears, and thought I would call it a day.

And to the others, i was like "good grief i cannot do what i did last time i made an alien character and go into the specific proteins in their blood this time" and my DM went lmao why not and i said "BECAUSE" and she was like hmm. Okay. He has vanadium blood then. And i said "dont do this to me. You KNOW if you say something I'm gonna want to decide what it actually is." And she said yeah. I know. He does have vanadium blood tho.

So I made a group chat with the players called Biology Conference, I sat down, and over the course of I think what turned out to be 600 messages I live-typed my entire thought process justifying his phenotypes.

Anthocyanins are a category of pigment generally found in plants which range from light pink to very saturated reddish pink to warm purples to almost-blue purples. I believe there are six major ones, if I recall, and pretty much any time a fruit is magenta or purple it's due to anthocyanin content; for example, ube, purple cauliflower, and a whole lot of berries. They are partly responsibe to pH, with the structures for different pigments forming in different levels of acidity or alkali. They are sometimes listed for their health benefits by food blogs and like webmd for things because as a food component they do have some possible benefits such as anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects, though that wasn't the part I was interested in.

They also are the primary pigment for pink and purple petals (yes i did the alliteration on purpose when i realized i could) in flowers, and along with being attractive to bees and birds, they also function a bit like the pigment humans have in their skin as well, as a defense against the damage that the sun's radiation can do.

That last part was my justification for it being my species' skin color, but it also serves a social purpose; though they are largely spacefaring now, they evolved on a very green planet, and as a social species the bright color was partly aposematic to advertise that they are not good to eat (their blood is very acidic! And it does have a vanadium compound after all, i ended up deciding, upon finding out that it would actually end up being the correct yellowish color I had been envisioning.) but mainly to make them very easy to find for other members of their species. It's brightest when they are very young and fades slightly with age, diet can affect it a tiny bit, and you can see when they are VERY ill because it gets a lot bluer.

Honestly I read about this for like six hours and there was a while there where if you said "anthocyanin" to my friends from the game they would groan and grumble the way people do when you make a good pun!
