Looking back, that Dazai's words were systematically accusatory and harsh, and if at the start his face resembled the man Atsushi knows, recently his expressions have turned dull and cold, much more reminiscent of what we've seen from the orphanage headmaster.

Yes, the headmaster was cruel. Yes, it was unfair. No, Atsushi didn't deserve any of it. He should have been protected, he has every right to despise that man and to feel all the conflicting feelings he has about it. But it happened. It happened, and he was shaped by it, and every step he takes as he makes his way through his new life has the echoes of the way that man raised him. He's making the choice not to let anyone go through what he has to if he can help it, but also makes him prone to self-sacrifice because of his lack of self-esteem.

Atsushi's been struggling hard since the Decay of Angels arc began, and the voice that's been motivating him whenever his determination waned has been the one of the man who raised and abused him hidden behind the mask of the one who brought him to his new home. It's fucked, and it worked.

hi! thank you, and dw, not rude :-) but unfortunately no, all that's available is chapter 1 currently. which is also going to be edited slightly once chapter 2 is finished and updated (not a lot it's just lore stuff)

i really didn't expect this chapter to take this long 😅 and at the time when i rereleased chapter 1 i didn't want there to be so many inconsistencies both with the content itself and also writing style, so i cut it off at the end of the rewritten chapter. i wish i could say it won't be much longer but truthfully i have no idea. i still have Lea's and Clementine's paths in Blackwater to finish, and then Duncan's introduction and the end of the chapter. but all of that is a bit more linear than the Blackwater branches so fingers crossed 🤞

I gotta be honest, the ending of JJK isn’t doing it for me. It feels underwhelming. And before anyone freaks tf out and tells me that I “can’t read” or that I “didn’t understand the point of JJK” I can promise you that I did. I understand and I can read between the lines and make inferences. I can also promise you that I know just because the ending isn’t my cup of tea, does not mean that the ending is objectively bad. I get all of that.

And yet, I still think the execution was fumbled and I think that’s a bummer. In a desperate need to be *different* from the rest of Shonen manga, I think the last 10-15ish chapters have felt incredibly similar to the rest of the genre. At least, in my opinion they have.

Have a quick preview of the fic I'm working on! I finished the first chapter in one day and will probably post it tomorrow. Admittedly, the first chapter is short - 2.9k - but the actual beginning of the fic is split between two chapters due to how I'm formatting it. Expect lengths to vary wildly.

I still need to figure out a name for this thing. RIP.

“Adam,” Charlie tries again. When she does not get an immediate response, she snaps her fingers a few times. Finally, finally, his attention shifts back to her, and she can get a move on. “Do you want to redeem yourself?” Adam’s ears twitch. He glances at Alastor. Alastor smiles down at him, and he looks back down at the floor. “…Sure,” he grits out. “Sure?” Alastor sighs heavily. “After all you did to hurt my friends, I expected far better than sure, Adam.” He looks like he’s trying to hide it, but Charlie catches the shudder that runs through Adam’s body before he looks up and, through fanged, gritted teeth, says, “I want to be redeemed. Let me into your hotel.” Alastor hums. “Let me into your hotel…?” Adam takes in a painful-sounding breath and closes his eyes. “Please,” he whispers, so soft that Charlie can barely believe it. So impossible that it takes her a moment to realize that she did hear it. Charlie looks between Adam and Alastor with eyes wide with disbelief, or maybe something else entirely. “What did you do?” she asks. “I figured you could use a helping hand, so I got a misguided soul onto the path of redemption,” Alastor cheerfully says. “He’s already made an incredible amount of progress, wouldn’t you say?” “Fuck,” Vaggie whispers. Charlie swallows. “Thank you, Alastor,” she says, because Adam has made progress. He certainly never would have spoken to her politely before, let alone say please, and what is that if not progress? Alastor is helping her, helping the hotel, and Charlie should be grateful for that. She feels like she’s going to vomit.
