Zhou Zishu:
look I just know that his pussy game is off the charts. he's an evil war criminal who murdered countless people (both directly and indirectly) and basically founded the ancient chinese fantasy cia and was working towards a coup of the emperor. but then he quits his job and disguises himself as a beggar and tries to drink himself to death. but then this other evil war criminal sees him, even in full disguise, and is like "I must have this homeless man so help me god." and then his pussy game is so strong that it makes the other evil war criminal want to quit HIS job and become a malewife. oh yeah and he's like the prettiest motherfucker in the world with long legs and a slim waist and is absolutely everything to me. he's even bisexual.
Wen Kexing:
look little evil babygirl who serves cunt everyday of his life. he lead a rebellion in like what is basically the mafia and killed his way to the top at like age 20 and then skinned the former leader alive before starting his reign of terror for like 8 years. like his nicknames are lunatic wen (given by his subordinates) and philanthropist wen (given by himself). he was ready to burn the whole world down but then met this homeless man and decided he could just burn some of the world so that way he could still be a housewife. his pussy game was so good that it gave back a man his will to live.

A Very Subjective Show Recommendation
Basic Info:
Titles: Word of Honor
Main Leads: Zhang Zhe Han as Zhou Zi Shu and Gong Jun as Wen Ke Xing
Overall Tropes etc.: Morally Grey/Black Main Leads | Soulmates | Revenge Story | Childhood Friends to Lovers | Hidden Identity | WantedCriminal4WantedCriminal | Feral4Feral | Ride or Die | "I'm dying" vs "I won't let you" | Amnesia | Fake Identity | Found Family | Criminals adopting an orphan and being better parents | Villain(?) Fuckery | Non Traditional Husband-Wife dynamics | Playing House As Everyone Tries to Kill Them | "I WILL DIE FOR YOU" "no, I WILL DIE FOR YOU" | Villain Redemption Questionmark
How many episodes: 36
Trigger Warnings / Content Warnings: Non-graphic non-traditional self-harm, child abuse, child death, death of family members, death of loved ones, drugging, alcohol, torture, forced suicide via poison, non-graphic non-traditional suicide attempt, violence, brainwashing, hints of incest (between cousins), sexual harassment (background character perpetrator @ background characters, secondary femme character - perpetrator gets killed)
My plot description:
Zhou Zishu who is a former Wuxia-CIA leader gets so mentally unwell that he decides to leave his organization through a prolonged suicide to get at least few years of 'normal' life. He pretends to be a homeless alcoholic-beggar when a too pretty poetry-speaking Wen Kexing who sees Zishu's shoulder blades and decides 'that's my future husband'. Since that moment onward he stalks Zishu because yes he's that unwell. Zishu stumbled on a massacre and accidentally adopts an orphan in the process. The orphan has some very sought-after artefact so Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing try to keep him alive as the not-so metaphorical ghosts from their pasts try to kill them all.
MyDramaList plot description:
In order to leave the assassin organization The Window of Heaven, the leader Zhou Zi Shu performs an obligatory departure technique, leaving him with three years left to live. He disguises his face and tries to live the remainder of his days as a drunkard wandering the martial arts world. Three months later, he meets the mysterious Wen Ke Xing, who immediately notices Zhou Zi Shu’s façade. The two then grow closer when they get entangled in a conspiracy regarding the Glazed Armor, a protected legendary key to a powerful armory.
SCORING:
Chemistry between characters: Off the charts, convinced this show and the amount of the not subtle queerness in it is the reason why China did a temporary ban on queer romance adaptations. 1000000/10. Gong Jun made 'did you know i like men' into a facial expression.
Plot: 8.5/10, yes we have the artefact and armory thing but honestly the relationship of the leads and their relationships with others take the main chair. Overall though I liked the plot.
Ending: Cried. From two reasons. 10/10.
Did it drag aka did I feel the need to skip forward: Never, I rewatched it in full like 5 times by now I think. 10/10.
Was it easy to understand while going in blind: Honestly? Yes. It's more character driven than plot driven. 10/10.
Other characters: Honestly, loved everyone on screen. Obviously the villains were hate-able, but played well. Loved all of the supportive characters - especially Wen Kexing's and Zhou Zishu's little found family - so it was nice to watch even when main leads weren't on screen for X time. 10/10.
Other Big Pros:
Wen Kexing's costumes. His make up and wardrobe. Whoever was responsible - I hope your pillow is cool and you may never stub your toe. Chefs kiss.
Gu Xiang and her himbo husband - all they needed was her walking him on a literal leash along with the metaphorical they already have.
Zishu's wigs look amazing. Just wanted to say.
Everyone is so pretty I'm experiencing bisexual rage.
STRONG!!! WOMEN!! WHO ROCK!!! SHIT!!!! UPPPPPP!!!
Thoughts/Opinions with some spoilers:
I know this show gave a heart attack to few censors at least. I have no idea how they got away with so much - ZZS and WKX calling each other sOULMATES? Overall cannot recommend it enough. It's easily digestible, engaging and will have you crying, squeeing and fanning yourself. Sometimes all at the same time.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I swear Zhou Zishu is high key suicidal and Ye Baiyu is low key suicidal. My case:
Zhou Zishu: I don’t deserve to be here. The world is terrible. I’m a plague on innocent people. I don’t even deserve the sweet release of death.
Ye Baiyu: Life? Yeah it’s pointless and sucks. The world is just getting progressively worse. I’m going to go eat more food now.
Tumblr media
Legitimately the entire “who put the nails in you Zishu” conversation
Tumblr media
Yes yes of course king also have you ever heard of the effects of trauma?

Popular Danmei Character Tournament
CWs: object insertion, sex, death mention, alcohol, slight spoilers
Bichen from the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
Lan Wangji’s sword and main weapon
Sometimes personified (mainly by ZeldaCW, I believe)
Submission: the source of some of the stupidest discourse i have ever seen, and for that I can only applaud it. an icon. a legend. bichen IS the moment. now cmon now
*long-suffering sigh* Yes, this is also the sword Wei Wuxian stuck up his ass in the Incense Burner Extra (Chapter 119). And the sword Wei Wuxian believed Lan Wangji was claiming when he pointed at himself, and Lan Wangji called him, “Mine” (Chapter 31).
Was submitted as a joke and has somehow beaten Jin Guangyao from the same novel. Vote to increase their death count <2
Zhou Zishu from Faraway Wanderers and Lord Seventh / Qi Ye
The MC of Faraway Wanderers / Word of Honor
In Lord Seventh, he works under the Crown Prince Helian Yi as the leader of Tian Chuang

LGBTQ+ Disabled Characters Showdown Round 1, Wave 3, Poll 7
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A character being totally canon LGBTQ+ and disabled was not required to be in this competition. Please check qualifications and propaganda before asking why a character is included.
Check out the other polls in this wave and prior here.
Billie Lurk-Dishonored
Qualifications:
Canon gay, canon disabled (missing arm and eye)
Propaganda:
Kills nobles, got a hot goth witch gf for a bit then killed God
Zhou Zishu-Faraway Wanderers / Tian Ya Ke
Qualifications:
He is mlm, though there's no consensus in fandom whether he's bi or gay. (He had slept with women prior to meeting his male love interest, but the way he speaks of that kinda doesn't make it sound like he enjoyed it? So there's room for interpretation. Maybe hes bi who just happened to settle with a man, maybe hes a late bloomer gay.) Either way, the novel's main romance is his relationship with another man, and they are in a committed relationship by the end! Now, for the disability part. He has a physical disability that's a result of, how do I put it, non-realistic circumstances (stabbing poisoned nails into his acupoints non-realistic), but I think it qualifies for how it affects him.
To start with, he is a martial artist, but the nails thing limits him to about half of his normal ability. Which is still pretty significant given he used to be one of the top talents of his generation, but there are many instances throughout the book where he finds himself frustrated, inconvenienced, or endangered by being unable to do what he *used to* be able to do, which I think tracks with acquired disability experience. Next, the nails also give him chronic pain issues with daily (or rather, nightly) flare ups, and additional ones when he strains himself. That usually last for several hours. (Fandom also theorizes that this leaves him chronically sleep deprived, but it's more conjecture than textual.)
Then, his biggest issue is that the nails are slowly killing him, and he has like 2-3 years to live... but uh given it's a happy ending novel his friend gives him an experimental surgery and it works out. But! Gotta note that I don't think it counts as a case of 'magically cured disability' trope. It is plainly stated that he will still have some issues post-surgery - just, y'know, no longer life-ending ones. The tl;dr here is that while his situation is not something possible in the real world, it still affects him in a way an acquired physical disability may: limits things he can do compared to his pre-injury state, results in chronic pain issues, and requires difficult medical intervention to stymie the negative effects.
Propaganda:
Zhou Zishu, how do I explain him... He is a spymaster and an assassin. He put the current Emperor on the throne. He committed atrocities. He lost the person he saw as his little brother as a result. He still thinks he did what was right, in the grand scheme of things. He decides to start his retirement at age 28 by stabbing a bunch of poisoned nails into his chest, disguising himself as a beggar, and vanishing into jianghu to daydrink and sightsee. He is living his best life, all 3 remaining years of it. He is in pain every night. He meets a man who, unexpectedly, understands him with a glance... and then begins to annoy him ceaselessly, insisting he has fallen for Zishu at first sight.
Cue Zhou Zishu's horrified realization that he's not only into men, but into this clown in particular. Zishu falls in love the way a cat falls into a bath - hes trying to get out but keeps slipping back, and hes hissing all the while. (We love to bully him for his clownsexual ways.) (Also, if this makes anybody want to check out the novel, remember: Zhou Zishu is an unreliable narrator and Will lie to you. Pay attention to his actions and reactions, not just what he *says* he thinks!) Now, I could spend hours gushing about how WenZhou (the couple's ship name, and yes they are canon and the main romantic storyline) gave me unrealistic standards for romance, but I'm gonna hold myself back from writing a 6k essay and focus on the theme of the tournament. I consider Zhou Zishu a disabled protagonist because: while his situation itself is non-realistic (aforementioned 'stabbing a bunch of poisoned nails into his chest'), the way it affects him is actually pretty similar, and in some ways really the same, to how an acquired physical disability may affect a person. First, it limits what he can do, physical activity-wise, to about half of his pre-injury state. (Which is still rather a lot, given he used to be a top dog martial artist, but it's still noticeable to him.) Second, it gives him chronic pain issues, with nightly flare-ups. (And additional ones when he strains himself.) (Also, at a certain point in the book his love interest starts holding him through his flare ups. Which doesn't lessen the pain but does help Zishu cope with it better. It's very important to me that it doesn't magically help but it does Mentally help and thats enough. The "stay with him morning and night, holding his hand" of it all (; v ;) yes thats a quote from the book.) And third, it requires a difficult surgery to stymie its negative effects (him dying in three years ones). (Yeah btw its not the case of magic surgery perfectly 'fixing' (bleugh) the character; he still need physical-therapy-analogue after it, and his uh medical professional also states he will likely still have some issues post-op.)

Round 1: Fight 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luo Binghe/Shen Qingqiu (SVSSS) vs Wen Kexing/Zhou Zishu (Word of Honor)
Propaganda under the cut!
Luo Binghe/Shen Qingqiu:
Shen Qingqiu has been in love with Binghe since before he even knew he was gay, the man thought he was straight reading a stallion novel full of smut, just for Binghe, and Binghe decided that if he couldn’t have SQQ that he would destroy the entire world. When SQQ died he kept his body around just in case and had to fight people off almost daily so that he could keep it around, man went full feral about it. They are so insane about each other
Wen Kexing/Zhou Zishu:
look Wen Kexing saw Zhou Zishu in his beggar disguise and instantly went "I need that homeless beggar in my bed asap and I will continue to stalk him and pester him until he lets me" and also recognized him from their childhood by his shoulder blades. Zishu still fell in love pretty quickly against his better judgement, though Kexing was undeniably first. Zishu hopped up to "if anything happens to Wen Kexing I'll kill everyone and then myself" (literally) quite quickly tbh (though wkx is also like this). But also Zishu repeatedly went "Lao Wen you're way too evil and insane and you're going to destroy everything including yourself so I'm leaving" and then immediately came back every single time. Also Zishu went from actively trying to die to being willing to be immortal if it meant he could be with wkx so take that as you will.

hanwenzhou thought of the day: zhou zishu is some kind of fantastical creature along the lines of a siren, where he can appear to people as what they want to see. it’s a very handy quality for a spy, especially when he has such good control over how he appears that he can do it voluntarily and he can adjust the degree to which it changes him. (is he mostly him but a little altered to appeal to who he needs to get information from, or is he completely unrecognizable because he needs to sneak past a guard who is hoping to get through his shift without trouble?)
it makes it easy once zzs leaves tianchuang. no one really wants to look at a beggar at all, they practically make him invisible, leaving zzs free to do what he wants. except then he starts getting entangled in the jianghu machinations (they want to see a wandering hero) and involved with chengling (he wants to see a father figure) and followed by wen kexing (who knows exactly what he wants to see, zzs certainly pretends he doesn’t), and by the time han ying shows up in ep8, zzs is back to tailoring his appearance to whoever he’s performing for. because the thing is, he’s always performing. it’s instinct to him.
wen kexing sees his face clearly, but zzs can barely help it: of course his eyes look bigger and softer when he needs wkx to go along with what he’s asking, of course he looks taller and stronger when chengling is looking to him for guidance, of course he seems visibly sick when yby is examining him.
and i just think. what if there’s a moment. post-canon, everyone lives, etc etc, where hy and wkx are looking at him and zzs nearly breaks down because he can’t be what both of them want at the same time, he can’t be hy’s zhuangzhu and wkx’s a-xu at once, and the idea of of just being himself is genuinely terrifying for him. when was the last time he did it? does he even know how anymore? and wkx and hy are also having a Time because they didn’t realize that zzs compulsively, automatically tries to shift to match what they want from him, and they all know that they love each other truly but. that there’s always been this level of performance from zzs is painful.

The shiny link said to ask you things so here I am. What's ur fav outfits for each of WKX and ZZS?
THANK YOU FOR ASKING although this is a very difficult question, given how many thoughts and feelings i have about their outfits. i've never tried to boil it down to favourites, but i'm going to go on a small journey and see if i can do it.
(1/5)
zishu first. devastating intro.
Tumblr media
this outfit makes me nostalgic for my first watchthrough. it's sexy, and i really like the way we see wenzhou both in red before anything else. but it lacks a kind of depth in the same way the unknown character does to us; it's a first impression. certainly a good one but just can't be my top favourite outfit.
his second tianchuang outfit is even better. it puts him in blue--his colour, siji shanzhuang's colour, even though it's draped in black and part of tianchuang right now. we get a lot of soul shattering emotions in this outfit as we start to learn who zhou zishu actually is, what he cares about, what he's built, who he's lost, what he is capable of doing. episode one kills me.
and then we also get a reprise of this outfit later, which is what really spikes its ranking up for me. the way he wears it subtly differently, coming full circle to finish this fight now that he's changed so much after the year he's lived. the way that blue he'd always carried with him, even into the heart of tianchuang, really stands out in stark contrast to jin-wang's red and gold.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
beautiful. it's up there but doesn't quite get favourite.
and honourable mention of course are his other two we catch glimpses of in episode 1--brilliant shixiong blue accented in fUCKING green in his flashback as if he's remembering a time when he was still human, and his "i'm riding off to die now" cloak. these get NOTHING from me because i'm so sad.
Tumblr media
moving on.
zhou zishu tries to become unobtrusive and unnoticeable and ordinary but instead he looks Like This:
Tumblr media
and we all hate and despair and love that perfect hair shoulder blades jawline in equal measure. especially wen kexing.
comfy, rugged, unapologetically blue. this outfit introduces the flask, introduces him to wen kexing and zhang chengling, and we have some good times with it. but it's simple, and dark, and so is his view of his remaining life right now, and that hurts a bit too much.
so, next is the outfit wen kexing gives him and he's briefly suspicious but he does wear it, deciding to trust wen kexing a bit and caving in a little to the concept of being something more than he'd planned. we're expanding to two shades of blue, too, very nice.
this outfit sees us through the epic fight with the beggar gang, the heartrending siji shanzhuang flashback, the LIPS ON SHOULDER and that's not even the only reason this outfit is a top contender to the title.
because more layers means the chance to take them off. and it must be discussed how much work the under layers do in this outfit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
look at this man revealing that there is indeed more to himself, letting himself be less guarded around wen kexing. look at his smile, his playfulness, and that fucking fairytale princess that has been hiding under so many masks, perfectly offset by that pretty pale blue and that soft hairstyle.
but i'm not sure i can commit to favourite.
pin in that one, i will keep going. so, this first yueyang outfit is just So Much.
Tumblr media
the HAT, the DRAPE, the ZHIJI-ACKNOWLEDGING, the way that gray creeps in. zhou zishu has revealed his face and in doing so has decided not to hide, in more ways than one, as he says to han ying. he's decided to deal with his shit a bit and maybe live a bit better with the time he has left. he's becoming himself and it's so much.
and as if that wasn't enough, after their big fight when it all goes wrong, zhou zishu GOES BACK to wearing THIS outfit. "let's try this again." backing up, making up, re-centering in the last place that felt more himself and then setting back out again on the right foot.
Tumblr media
and then he sits in the miDDLE of the STREET, outer robe HALFWAY OFF HIS SHOULDER in stark contrast to the structure of the breakup-outfit, and SAYS LAO WEN'S NAME. what am i supposed to do with that. what. WHAT.
i think this one comes extremely close to being my favourite, pin in this one, too.
speaking of the breakup-outfit.
Tumblr media
it's so shimmery, suddenly full of so much structure and colour. zhou zishu, trying to reconcile who he's been with who he wishes he could be with who he doesn't want to see lao wen become, abruptly wrapping himself up in all these layers and trappings of a man that's a different kind of shield against the pain and it doesn't really make him any less lost in the end. but damn is it pretty. i can't really put my finger on it but something about his hair and that collar. and, of course, the blood. the declaration that nobody can stop him from killing who he wants and getting what he wants. hot damn.
however, comparing it to the two top contenders for the title right now, i don't think it beats either one.
part 2

10 Fics
I was tagged by @clotpolesonly.
Rules: Post the first lines of your last 10 fics posted to AO3. (Sort by date posted.) If you have less than 10 fics posted, post what you have!
10.) Choker Necklace
(KinnPorsche: The Series; KimChay fluff)
After Kim left their first tutoring session at Chay’s house, Chay stared down at the unlocked knob of the door he definitely remembered locking.
9.) The Ground Might Break
(KinnPorsche: The Series; Deleted Scenes from Drowning Like a Stone)
The biggest complication in Porsche’s feelings about Vegas — and Pete with Vegas — was also its simplest part: at their cores, Porsche and Vegas shared most of the same sentiments for the people around them.
8.) Drowning Like a Stone
(KinnPorsche: The Series; Chay-centric, Gen/KimChay)
Ohm hadn’t noticed it at the time, but the guy running Anatrameka’s Open House had taken a picture of Wik signing Chay’s shirt, which then got included in all the fluffy publicity posts about the event.
7.) Have No Mercy
(Word of Honor, ATLA AU)
Splayed out in the sun, Zhou Zishu bent just enough flame to warm up his wine; the mid-spring air of this southern earth kingdom felt little warmer than the late winter in the Imperial caldera, even with his thick beggar’s robes.
6.) Five Lies and a Truth
(The Witcher; post-Season 2 Jaskier gen, 5+1 outsider POVs)
“…so the lioness saw beneath the bough,” Pavetta sang, catching Duny’s eye from across their room.
5.) Little Mountain
(Word of Honor; Chengling-centric whump fic, gen, canon divergence)
Duan Pengju wasn't sure what he expected when the gates of Siji Manor opened and ended Tianchuang's siege…but it certainly wasn’t a twiggy teenager stumbling out, nearly tripping over himself to lock the gates behind him again.
4.) Day 16 Flufftober: Falling Asleep Together
(Word of Honor; gen, fluff, Shen Shen & Zhou Zishu)
The morning after the small banquet celebrating Zhao Jing’s downfall, Shen Shen shuffled out of his inn with all his meager clothes and belongings packed together and ready to be put atop a horse.
3.) Day 5 Kinktober On the Mountain: Substance Abuse
(Word of Honor; WenZhou, drunk sex)
"I'll only ask you. Should you be punished?"
2.) Day 25 Kinktober: Breeding (NSFW!)
(Teen Wolf; Malira, ABO, breeding kink, drabble)
Kira didn’t need to lock her legs around Malia’s waist when she came inside her, but she hooked her ankles together anyway.
1.) Diffidence
(Teen Wolf; Sceucalion, BDSM)
Deucalion smirked to himself as Scott stumbled off to the restroom to clean himself off.
The 10 people I’m tagging are @emberfaye, @sweet-william-writes, @ditch-lily, @luckydragon10, @majestictortoise, @snickerdoodlles, @princeescaluswords, @athingofvikings, @fridge-full-of-feels, and @lori0018. (And anyone else who wants to do this!)

I think Jing Beiyuan's personality is so interesting...he is apparently lazy whereas, in reality, he is a vicious schemer who gets a sweet young girl killed. For what? Politics
At the start of the novel we see him as a heartbroken man who has faithfully waited for his 'soulmate' who never acknowledged him and instead used him as a powerful political tool. Thankfully, the cycle is broken and Jing Beiyuan is returned to life as a teenager. However the plot twists and a new character drops into the frankly depressing life of Jing Beiyuan.
In my personal opinion, Jing Beiyuan's laziness is highlighted to drive a contrast between the complex Prince Nan'ning and the pure and seemingly naive Shamanet. His bland lifestyle compared to the Shamanets productive days. These days occur before he entangled himself with Zhou Zishu and , in turn, the darker parts of court politics. There is similarity between Tian Ya Ke and Qi Ye in the sense that initially Wen Kexing feels curious about the carefree beggar and Jing Beiyuan feels curious about the young and innocent Shamanet after the incident at court.
Lastly, both Jing Beiyuan and Wu Xi have a high rank and are heirs but the difference between them is huge; Wu Xi being honest and blunt and somehow mysterious at the same time ; Jing Beiyuan keeps his cards close to his chest because, in Qing a wrong word could perhaps be his demise.
I love the idea of the daily 'lectures' by Jing Beiyuan and Wu Xi asking him about poems. Jing Beiyuan being recklessly curious about the creatures living with Wu Xi. Wu Xi is so possessive about his Beiyuan! (Lowkey threatening to poison someone)

Zhou Zishu:
look I just know that his pussy game is off the charts. he's an evil war criminal who murdered countless people (both directly and indirectly) and basically founded the ancient chinese fantasy cia and was working towards a coup of the emperor. but then he quits his job and disguises himself as a beggar and tries to drink himself to death. but then this other evil war criminal sees him, even in full disguise, and is like "I must have this homeless man so help me god." and then his pussy game is so strong that it makes the other evil war criminal want to quit HIS job and become a malewife. oh yeah and he's like the prettiest motherfucker in the world with long legs and a slim waist and is absolutely everything to me. he's even bisexual.
*canon in my heart
Wheeljack:
This alien robot snapped a guy's neck with his thighs on screen while delivering a sassy one liner. He fights with twin katanas and homemade grenades. He turns into a funky sports car. He may be emotionally shut off but he doesn't let that stop him from flirting specifically to annoy someone who doesn't like him. Totally has a boyfriend (said bf was teased about it and didn't deny it so it's not *not* canon) but their vibes say open relationship and I just know in my heart that this man serves cunt wherever he goes.
* not proven to not have one* canon in my heart
