I worked at a nail salon and Joe Biden came in. He wanted something really specific and none of us could find the color he wanted. Then one of the girls started painting his nails sparkly lavender and he was slightly annoyed that it wasn’t the perfect color but he liked it.

Students project Genocide Joe onto The George Washington University.
Biden’s face, with the words “Genocide Joe,” was projected across an American flag that the university had hung from Lisner Hall, an academic building behind the encampment Friday afternoon.
Protesters at the encampment could be heard chanting, “Long live the intifada” as Biden’s face was projected onto the flag.

I still find it funny that some people treat voting for a president like there's a gun to your head. if that doesn't radicalize you, idk what will because can't you see that is not normal. why is scare tactics being used here

So the current U.S. president and Democratic nominee for the 2024 election just did an interview where he made it a point to talk about how fake the polls are and that he draws large crowd sizes 😍🤩

So last night at the Democratic National Convention, Kamala Harris pulled off, in my opinion, the most glorious flex in all of American politics. It was petty as fuck and I am here for it:
Harris, in a Show of Force, Holds a Large Rally 80 Miles From Her Convention
Choosing Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee [the smaller venue used for the Republican National Convention] as the venue for Ms. Harris’s rally also served as an intentional rejoinder to Mr. Trump, who has fumed over the size of her crowds since she replaced Mr. Biden on the Democratic ticket. The campaign said about 15,000 people attended the rally in Milwaukee, and the 23,500-person convention hall in Chicago was packed.
Someone on Reddit then linked to the Kamala HQ video of her brief Coming To You Live From My Rival’s Venue acceptance speech for the Democratic nomination. And Redditors pointed out that you could actually see the juxtaposition, and the sold-out crowds could see each other, and it was beautiful.

Posters on r/politics constantly say to any positive discussion, “None of this matters if you don’t vote.” While this is true, the constant doomer nihilism of “None of this matters” pisses me off. I know they’re afraid people will get complacent. They’re afraid people will see, for example, pictures of these massive crowds and think, I don’t have to leave the house. I don’t have to vote. Everyone else will get this. But that’s not what I think when I see news like this. It DOES matter. I was always going to drag my carcass out to my polling station in a blood-red state, whether I have to use a cane or not, whether the Electoral College even gives a shit about my vote or not, but this is exciting. Whenever I see Kamala’s packed, enthusiastic crowds, I think, This is a movement forward and I get to be part of it. We are gonna run up the popular vote as a statement that will make bad-faith actors think twice before meddling, and we are gonna flip some battleground states. We are gonna nail down the electoral votes, and I am going to sit there and watch on TV as they certify the electors in December, and then I am going to sit there and watch them officially count it out like they did on January 6, 2021, and I am going to know that I was part of that.
It’s not about getting complacent. It’s about feeling the agency and possibility that we can actually get this done. It’s about saying, I get to do this, even if it’s just one ballot, one I Voted sticker, one day. We’re gonna get our first female, first South Asian American, and second Black president into that office. The enthusiasm is our running rebuke to that fucking guy, and we’re gonna get the numbers as even Republican politicians turn on him and support Kamala Harris. And any time someone tells you that being hopeful is getting complacent, come back and look at those crowds. Or better yet, get hyped up by Michelle Obama:

Hope is energy, not complacency. We can do this.

I just feel like even if we all vote and Biden wins, Trump won't accept the loss, and eventually they'll just put him in anyway. And then there won't be another real election. Even if Biden wins and somehow is actually confirmed (which again, I think is unlikely) we're going to have to do this for 30 more years because of the SC, and that isn't at all sustainable.
All this isn't to say I won't vote but I just think people are being way too optimistic about what happens if Biden wins. I don't think him winning will keep Trump out or the horrible fascist future at bay.
Look, I get the fear. I do, I do... but this is also one of the times when you have to ask if it's actually telling you something true, or if it's just preying on that generalized feeling of doom to make everything seem hopeless even if we win again. And that is... there is absolutely no actual mechanism for Trump to be installed as president if Biden wins the Electoral College (since as we have repeatedly seen, the popular vote is immaterial). SCOTUS is horrible and evil and are trying to interfere as much ahead of time for Trump as they can, but part of that is because they can't simply issue an order for Biden to be removed and Trump to become God King By Fiat. That is not how it works. If Biden wins in November, he will be president until his term ends, he steps down, Kamala takes over, or anything else.
Trump tried a coup with all the entire overwhelming might of the US government as the sitting president last time; fortunately, it failed. Reforms to the Electoral Count Act have been made to prevent another January 6. The Department of Defense and the military are still under (and would be on another January 6) Biden's command, not Trump's. That's not to say that Trump won't try some shit with his insane cult followers, but he is just a late 70s conman from Queens out on bail and under sentence for a criminal trial, who is already the biggest and most disgraced loser and asshole in American political history. He is so desperate to cheat his way back into power because in a real sense, this IS the last-chance saloon for him. He can't put off the legal proceedings, however long they take, for another four years. He's losing his marbles at a rapid rate. I'm just saying: we don't know what or when, but there will be (and already have been) real consequences for him. That is why he is scrabbling so hard.
"Even if we vote, nothing matters and Trump will win anyway" is another of those insidious lies that works to make you feel as if the battle is endless and pointless and none of its victories matter. Of course it will not all be magically fixed forever if Biden wins. We will still have to figure some godforsaken fucking way to expand SCOTUS or kick Alito and Thomas off it. But we will have bought ourselves, our democracy, our country, and the world time to do that, and put another nail in Trump's coffin. That matters. It matters a lot.
Fascism wants to present itself as overwhelming, irresistible, inevitable, and ready to happen no matter what you do, and that's what your brain wants you to buy in now. But that's not the case, Trump is not inevitable or some all-powerful monolith (in fact, another of the debate takeaways seemed to be that Biden looked bad but people still hate Trump too much for it to really shift anything). He is a loser, a fraud, a conman, a liar, and a crook, and he WANTS you to fear him like an almighty god. Don't give him or the MAGAGOP the satisfaction.
Frankly, having to endure another four months of this might kill us all, and I know that we are tired and scared (me too). But IT IS NOT INEVITABLE THAT WE ARE DOOMED. Not at all. Let's hang onto that and tell that anxiety doom voice to shove it.
Hugs.

I'm genuinely surprised by how many people are reacting to Biden dropping out like it's the final nail in the coffin of any hope for a Dem win in 2024.
Y'all! no!! this is the best possible turn of events!!! we are celebrating right now!!!!
Biden's chances of winning were slim to none, and everyone's been pushing the Dems to pick a different candidate to improve their chances. The fact that he was so insistent on running despite literally everyone else's wishes was terrifying.
Biden dropping out and endorsing the person who has the actual best chance of winning this thing (afaik anyway) is unquestionably the best possible thing he could have done. It's the best possible thing for improving the chances that Trump will be defeated in this race. And nobody thought it was even realistic to ask for it at this point, because the Dems in general are such conventional Rule Followers; Biden dropping out is practically a fucking miracle, and the vast majority of progressives are incredibly relieved by this news.
celebrate.
(and if you want more info on the "why", I went more in depth here, and added some great resources here.)

Joe Biden tacking hard on immigration to curry Republican support for the Ukraine/Israel military aid package should have been the final nail in the coffin for the "harm reduction" argument for voting Dem. Turns out the Dems will just do whatever Republicans want if that's what it takes to maintain the empire ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Let me be very clear. The mere concept of the Government stepping in to curtail the wildly abusive fees of the banking industry has already lead to multiple banks trying to "get ahead of" it to cut their feed from $35 to $10 (Bank of America) or get rid of them entirely (Capital One) for active users of their account.
This regulation is already having the effect of saving US citizens billions of dollars every year before its even passed, even as Republicans want to fight it tooth-and-nail.
Every year there are $8bn in overdraft charges that explicitly and directly hit the poorest Americans by definition. Even just adopting this rule would save Americans 7.315 billion dollars every year.
And with banking institutions now moving to get rid of them entirely it can save even more.
Let this be, case-in-point, proof positive and a case study of several things.
The government can directly help you and help every single American
While Democrats definitely aren't saints, in any context, they are objectively doing more to help people than the side actively arguing against curtailing banking and corporate excess.
Biden is materially better than Trump would be.
Raegan and the right-wing "the government is objectively the worst thing" screed is the biggest, easiest, and stupidest way to ensure that rich and powerful people have no pushback against their shitty behaviors.

teeny tiny baby steps are still steps. it's not perfect or even great, but there's less people in jail now for minor marijuana charges than there used to be, and that makes all the difference to the thousands of now free people.
also one thing I noticed repeated in this very short article was how biden has been stopped or delayed in doing the things he wants (implied by republicans). bills not passing the senate. him wanting a police database made public in january of 2023 "delayed" which is weasely phrasing, but still. I think it's important to remember just how shitty republicans are, and how they will fight absolutely everything a democrat wants tooth and nail. they will fight dirty. there's no compromise with the republicans. it's their way or the highway. oftentimes I'm left wondering how much more obama and biden could've/would've done if politics hadn't gotten so polarized and working together wasn't career suicide for republicans.
