is there a discord server for this?
Actually, I’d been thinking about this for a while, and finally decided yes, we should have one. I’ve been working on it off and on for a bit, because figuring out how to organize it was hard. Then life got in the way before I could put the finishing touches on it. This ask reminded me to do that! So thank you! But yes, I finally made the decision for a Discord since our tumblr blog only reblogs tumblr posts, so that misses out on events outside of tumblr, though any that we DO find get put in the spreadsheet. The discord, we hope, will help to find and collect the ones outside of Tumblr
Also, if tumblr implodes, we’ll have a backup.
The Big Bang Blog Project Discord Invite  - please let us know if it breaks.
Please note this will be an 18+ Server since we cannot guarantee an event will not have NSFW entries and it would be difficult to reorganize things based on those criteria.

hi i love this blog & project ! was wondering if you guys r aware of any servers or community spaces that are also pride friendly like this ...? i want to talk to other fans & make friends so bad but approaching such a big fandom gets scary . love what u guys do !!!
thank you, we appreciate your support! unfortunately, we are not aware of any specific lgbtqia+ dedicated communities or servers that we can personally vouch for. we would like to recommend keeping an eye out for fandom events (zines, big bang, servers, challenge weeks) etc. to find some "kindred spirits" of sorts. im sorry we do not have a more concrete answer, and i hope that you can find a community that you feel truly appreciated in, because that is what you deserve!

What is a Big Bang?
A Big Bang is a fandom-wide event where writers write a long (more than 10k words) fic, for which artists make fanart during the 6-month long creation period.
How does it work?
Writers arrive with a fic idea at the start of the event. Once they have begun writing, artists select fics to illustrate in an anonymous process. Then mods match writer-artist teams. Betas can get summaries of fics from authors and choose who they’d like to work with. They help with what the writer requests: bouncing plot ideas, helping with the flow of the story, and correcting spelling and grammar mistakes.
When can I apply?
Writer applications are open until the 5th of July. Beta and artist applications are open until the 3rd of September.
Where can I apply?
Application links will be posted in May.
What do I need to participate?
You’ll need an email address, a Discord account, and if you’re applying as a writer, an AO3 account.
What is expected of me if I get accepted to the Big Bang as a writer?
► Create a complete, previously unpublished fic for the event that is independent from your previous works (no sequels or prequels are allowed) and longer than 10,000 words. ► Work closely and communicate regularly with your collaborator partners. ► Keep the setting and plot of your fic a secret, and don’t talk about it publicly outside the event’s server.
What is expected of me if I get accepted to the Big Bang as an artist?
► Create at least two pieces of complete, previously unpublished artwork. If you’re paired with one writer, you’ll create two pieces for one fic, but if you’re paired with two, you’ll make one artwork for each fic. ► Work closely and communicate regularly with your collaborator partner(s). ► Keep the details of your illustration(s) a secret, and don’t talk about it publicly outside the event’s server.
What is expected of me if I get accepted to the Big Bang as a beta reader?
Work closely and communicate regularly with your collaborator partner(s). Provide technical spelling and grammar corrections, along with language, characterization, structure, and plot feedback to the writers if they ask for it. The extent to which writers decide to incorporate this feedback is up to their own consideration. Keep the setting and plot of the fic a secret, and don’t talk about it publicly outside the event’s server.
Do I need to get my fic for the event beta-read?
We encourage the fics to be beta-read. However, it isn’t required. You can also invite your personal beta(s) to the server if you’d like, or you can be matched with one in the event.
How will the matching of artists and writers happen?
After writers submit their Project Proposal on August 30th, all summaries, tags, and snippets will be shared anonymously with artists. From September 5th-12th, artists will fill out a survey listing their preferences for fics they might like to illustrate. Mods will announce writer-artist pairs on September 16th.
If I apply and get accepted as a writer, is getting art for my fic guaranteed?
Artists have the right to decline any work they do not wish to illustrate, so while we will do our best to match each fic, writers are not necessarily guaranteed an artist partner. However, we try our best to keep an even match of writers and artists, and it is likely that all writers will be paired up. All writers can also still produce a long fic to be proud of, with the support of the Big Bang Discord community. Other benefits of being in the Big Bang are getting your fic added to the AO3 collection and reblogged by the Tumblr blog.
Can I apply for multiple roles?
Anonymity in the lead-up to the pairings is very important for this event. For that reason, you can only be accepted as either a writer or an artist. However, writers and artists can also be betas, as well as pinch-hitter artists who can be called on to step in if needed.
What happens if I need to drop out of the event?
If you need to drop out, please contact a moderator ASAP so they can inform you of the procedure! If you ‘ghost’ and fail to communicate your change in status, you may not be able to participate in next year’s event. Exceptions will be made for extraordinary incidents affecting a participant’s ability to communicate.
What happens if my partner drops out during the event?
If you’re an artist or a beta, you can choose to work with another writer. If you’re a writer, the mods will make every effort to find an artist to fill in for you (this person is called a pinch-hitter).
Can writers collaborate on fics?
Yes, writers may collaborate on a fic. In this case, please indicate so in both of your sign-up forms.
What kind of content is allowed?
Your work can be about any ship(s) or no ships!. The Big Bang is a chance to commit to a big project with an unusual amount of support, so feel free to be creative! Crossovers are strongly discouraged, though, as we can’t guarantee that artists/betas will be familiar or interested in the other fandom.
Are NSFW fics allowed for the event?
Yes, NSFW fics—both Mature or Explicit—are permitted. If a fic has sexual content warranting either of those ratings, however, it must be disclosed on the project proposal so that it’s only shown to artists who are willing and able to see NSFW content. Likewise, a fic’s NSFW status should be disclosed in postings on the server’s #beta-requests channel. You’ll be able to brainstorm and discuss these works on a specially designated part of the server. All characters in NSFW works must be aged-up (18+), and adult-child ships or bestiality are not allowed.
Who can work on an NSFW fic?
You may only apply to write, beta, or make art for an NSFW fic if you’re over 18.
Can I share part of my fic/art with anyone during the creation period?
We ask you to keep your idea and progress as private as possible except for in the Big Bang’s Discord server. This requirement is in order to preserve the anonymity of the writers before the artist pairing process, and to keep the suspense and excitement in the general fandom about the pieces.
I already shared some details of my fic before I knew about the Big Bang. What now?
Let us know in your sign-up form! We’ll make case-by-case judgements based on the situation. It’s alright if you’ve previously brainstormed the concept publicly or discussed potential details with friends. Our goal is to preserve anonymity for artist pairings and the posting period, so if you’ve done so, we’d ask that you hide/delete the posts and refrain from further public discussion.

Bang Creator Interview: Tumblr: @adurna0-art  |  Instagram: adurna0 | Twitter: adurna0 | Bluesky:  adurna0
The Collaboration period has begun! In these quiet months before works are due, we want to foster a sense of excitement, camaraderie, and celebration among our participants. To that end, all participants were given the option of a formal interview by our mod, Dema, or an informal “ask-game” survey. We hope you enjoy getting to know our phenomenal creators as much as we have!
Tumblr media
Q&A with Adurna
When did you start making fanart?
When I was around 13, and I discovered The Internet, and more specifically DeviantArt. Should a 13-year-old have been on DA? Possibly not, but it did get me into fandom, so.
What was your first contribution to the DA fandom?
Investigating the dark depths of my blog, I believe it must have been an inktober drawing of Sera, which feels very fitting…
(https://www.tumblr.com/adurna0-art/151470069681/inktober-2016-7-sera-by-adurna0-she-would)
What other events do you like to participate in?
I’m a sucker for fandom in general, even if I’m not particularly active on social media. I‘ve participated in zines, other big bangs, weekly themed prompt events, and I also help run a fandom server for art projects!

First check in time for authors!
This is just a reminder that the summaries will need to be sent on Saturday April 27th at the latest for the summaries claim period.
What does that mean for authors?
you should have around 30-40% of your final wordcount written by then, as well as a good idea of how your fic will start and end
fic stats: rating, pairing(s), estimated word count, archive warnings, main tropes, etc.
a good summary of a few sentences that will be posted anonymously for artists to look at by me, on the blog. along with the fic stats, this will be all the artists see to make their picks
How, where, and when can you send your summary info?
you can send me your summary via dm's on discord or via the submit page here
you can send them whenever you're ready and have all the requirements, until April 27th
What you need to send:
your tumblr, AO3, and discord usernames
working title
main pairing(s)
rating (general, teen, mature, explicit. not-rated fics are not permitted)
any content warning(s) (such as non-con, major character death, graphic violence, underage, dead dove: do not eat, etc)
a concise but precise summary of your fic with enough details to give a good idea to artists what the fic is gonna be about.
main tropes in your fic (examples: AU, canon compliant, hurt/comfort, whump, etc)
any other info about your fic you think is important for artists to know once it's their turn to pick projects
What happens if you can't make it for the April 27th deadline?
you won't be pre-matched with an artist by me, but you can definitely still participate to the big bang on your own timeline, as long as you publish by the final deadline of October 9
you can find an artist by yourself if you want
What if I need to drop out?
No worries! You can let me know privately or simply leave the server quietly if you prefer. There will be no judgement and you won't be banned from joining any possible future event(s).
Any other question?
Look at the FAQ or send an ask/message to the blog.
Also don't forget that you guys have access to betas on the discord server, if you need.
Happy writing!

sorry to bring up the big bang shit again, you're probably tired of it but I unfortunately am a slave to the hot goss
the main problem was you were kicked because you had nsfw/mature works on your ao3 which you were intending on posting your work for the big bang on and the mods hadn't properly vetted that before admitting you. you recognized other nsfw writers in the server who you didn't hear of getting kicked
so if the favoritism from that one mod you speak of is true, then those other nsfw writers would be posting big bang entries on the same account as their nsfw works, or posting nsfw follow-ups to their submissions. is that right?
Ask received on Jan 27, 2025 – 6:49 AM. Context: 1, 2.
This is going to be the last anonymous ask I answer regarding this situation. I am tired of it... I made all the posts in my #sthbigbang tag unrebloggable, and I won't make a new post about it past this point. You can still send replies to the original post, PMs and non-anonymous asks (so I can answer them privately). Otherwise, I'm trying to move on from this. Like, it's been a year: this is a permanent scar on my life and I still have a difficult relationship with my writing because of it, but I've mostly recovered and learned not to let it consume my everyday thoughts. So this answer is going to get long with everything I've left to say 😑
It's kinda hard not to take this ask in bad faith because of how it's phrased tbh, but I'm going to try to assume it was sent with good intentions! To reply to your question right away: yes, that's right. And that's what happened. The artists I recognised who weren't kicked posted their works for Big Bang to the same accounts where they have their NSFW Sonic works. It was quite hilarious looking at some Ao3 accounts where the BB fic was posted right above a Sonic smut fic. However, this wasn't the favoritism issue I was talking about. Those writers were still unaware of the hidden rules, so they were in the same position I was, except lucky enough not to have been reported (though, I have no idea why all of us were skipped in the vetting process – if there was one). The favouritism issue was about that one writer who knew about the hidden rules, was told about them in advance, so they would be careful, and that writer actually posted their BB fic on a different clean account. So the favouritism was not that someone was allowed to post anywhere they wanted, but that someone was warned about about the hidden rule and instructed to take precautions.
What happened to me... what is the opposite of favouritism? Like, being singled out in a negative way. I was the only one to get punished. I even talked to a new mod of the event this year, and they avoided my question on whether I'm still banned. I speak about that in more depth in Chapter 9 notes of my Sonadow Fanart collection (which is a sneaky way to post updates on Ao3 for me).
Literally the next day after our conversation they roll out this update to the Vetting process which states that "problematic ships" are now included in what's not allowed. They even specifically list "Sonegg" which I wrote before. Which that hate ask I received after I was banned specifically mentions. How big is the chance that the real reason they banned me last year was actually this single SFW fic they deemed "problematic"? That would explain why half of them (raging antis) immediately blocked me, why Mod Fenn didn't want to talk to me even though they were completely fine with my Sonadow NSFW, why Mod Chaz was so avoidant with how the mods' "personal beliefs" won't let them allow me to participate anymore, why other NSFW writers and artists were allowed to participate anyway... And why my ban was so irreversible that they even blocked me from the event blog. Mystery solved a year later? Maybe it never was about NSFW fics.
In other news, I was banned from yet another project due to the influence of this ban (wrote about it in Chapter 10 notes). Also apparently someone in Sonic Big Bang 2025 is spreading disgusting rumours about my friends and myself. Adding this up to losing one of my friends (and a few shared mutuals) sometime after I wrote the original post because they decided they want to be the Big Bang migration server mod more than they want to be my friend and implied they won't support me anymore... I'll admit. I hate this event now.

Lukanette Big Bang FAQ!
Q: What’s a big bang event?
A big bang event is one designed for fandom, where during the course of the event, writers write a fic and are accompanied by an artist that draws art for the fic. This is a collaborative effort, designed to help bring users together to make something fun!
Q: What’s the Lukanette Big Bang event?
This event is just like the Miraculous Big Bang, which is held every year, where the goal is to write 10,000 words in the span of six months. However, the focus will be entirely on Lukanette! This means that Lukanette will be the end goal of the event, not any other ship for either of them. So long as the endgame is Luka Couffaine / Marinette Dupain-Cheng or a gen Luka Couffaine & Marinette Dupain-Cheng, other pairings are allowed in. The set amount of words required for the fic written will be decided in the Interest Check.
Q: What content is not allowed in?
The fic must end with Luka Couffaine / Marinette Dupain-Cheng. If you are writing a gen fic, it must end with Luka Couffaine & Marinette Dupain-Cheng. This event is focused on them two as a relationship, so it wouldn’t be allowed to put another ship as the main pairing. Everything else is fair game, but be warned: if your fic has elements to it that have any of the AO3 Archive Warning tags (Extreme Violence, Underage,...) you will have to specify that in your first check in.
Q: Is there a Discord server? When can I join the Discord server?
Yes, there is a Discord server! You will be able to join the server after you have submitted your application form, and have received an approval email saying that you’ve been invited into the server. The email will have a link for you to join.
Q: I’m new to writing/artwork/beta reading, but I still want to apply. Is that okay?
Absolutely! There is no minimum requirement for the application process. Try it out!
Q: When can I start working on my fic? Do I have to wait until I join the server to start out on my fics?
You can start writing even before being admitted into the discord server! Just make sure that whatever you’re working on, you don’t post it onto AO3, or any other fic website, until the event is over.
Q: Do I have to post my fic in English?
Yes, please. This is an English event!
Q: Where can I apply?
Application links will be posted on this blog in February, for all three roles (Writer, Artist, Beta Reader). Each application will ask a few questions.
Q: What do I need to participate?
You’ll need an email address, a Discord user and if you’re applying as a writer, an AO3 account.
Q: Can I write NSFW works?
Absolutely! Please be aware that we only allow users who are 18+ to write NSFW in our event.
Q: Who is allowed to work on an NSFW fic?
For this event, you are only allowed to work on an NSFW fic if you are older than 18. This goes by the honour system; if we find out that you’ve lied about your age in order to do this, you will be banned from the project and from the server. No exceptions. We want to keep this event as safe as possible, both for minors and for adults.
Q: How do claims work?
There will be a project proposal within the event where writers will have to ultimately decide what they will be doing for the rest of the creation period. In that project proposal, writers will be asked to provide 2k words of their story, and this will be what artists see. All project proposals will be anonymous, to guarantee that there is no bias when an artist picks on what project to work on. As artists, they will have the option to list the fics they want and do not want. The moderators will walk writers through this, so that there is no confusion.
Q: If I apply and get accepted as a writer, is getting art for my fic guaranteed?
Not necessarily. We will do our best to get everyone a pair, but it is possible that a writer may go without an artist.
Q: How do check-ins work?
There will be a google form posted in the Discord one week before it is due. These check-ins are beneficial to moderators to see how progress is going, and if there is a problem we can facilitate. Questions about your progress, about your expected finished word count, and if you’re having issues with your partners, will be in the check-ins.
Q: Am I allowed to post my fics onto other platforms other than AO3?
Yes! Make sure that your fic is on AO3 as well, as this is an AO3-centered event. Please make sure that, if you have an artist working with you, they’re okay with you posting your work on another platform.
Got any more questions? Leave us an ask!

Dedicated server Germany
How to Find a Cheap Dedicated Server in Germany Without Compromising Quality
So you’ve decided to go all in with a dedicated server Germany, but there’s a catch: you’re working with a tight budget. Maybe you're running a growing business, an online store, or even just a personal project, and you don’t want to throw your hard-earned cash at a service that’s overpriced.
Here’s the thing—while it’s true that dedicated servers are generally more expensive than shared hosting or VPS (Virtual Private Servers), Germany is home to some excellent hosting providers that offer affordable options. The key is to find a cheap dedicated server that doesn’t compromise on quality.
In this post, I’ll break down exactly how you can find that perfect balance of affordability and performance. From understanding your hosting needs to comparing providers, we’ll cover everything you need to get the most bang for your buck.
Tumblr media
Why Choose a Dedicated Server in Germany?
Before diving into the search for the best deal, let’s talk about why Germany is such a solid choice for hosting your server.
Germany is known for its strong tech infrastructure and high-speed internet connections, making it a great location for businesses targeting European customers. Whether you’re in Frankfurt, Berlin, or another major city, you’ll benefit from Germany's reliable data centers and excellent connectivity. Plus, Germany has some of the strictest data protection laws in the world, which is a big win if you're running a business that handles sensitive customer information. So, if you're looking for security and fast speeds, Germany is a top choice.
Now that we’ve covered why Germany is a great place to host, let’s look at how to find a cheap dedicated server without giving up the good stuff!
Step 1: Understand Your Needs—What Are You Looking for in a Dedicated Server?
Alright, first things first. You need to understand exactly what you’re going to use your server for. Are you hosting a website? Running a game server? Or maybe you need the extra power for large-scale data processing?
Here are some things to consider when looking for a dedicated server in Germany:
Performance Requirements: Do you need a super powerful server with loads of RAM and CPU power, or is a more basic setup enough for your needs? If you’re running a small blog or a start-up website, you don’t need the most expensive server out there.
Bandwidth and Storage: How much bandwidth do you expect to use? Do you need large amounts of disk storage for data-heavy applications? If you’re running an e-commerce store, for example, you’ll likely need more storage and faster speeds.
Scalability: What if your business starts to grow? You’ll want a hosting plan that allows you to scale easily without upgrading to a whole new server.
Support and Uptime: Support matters a lot, so look for a provider that offers 24/7 customer service, especially if you're new to dedicated hosting. Also, check their uptime guarantee—nobody wants a server that’s constantly down.
Step 2: Compare Providers and Their Offerings
Now that you’ve figured out your needs, it’s time to compare different hosting providers in Germany. Don’t just go with the first one you see. Take the time to look around, and here’s how to make sure you’re getting the best deal:
Look for Transparent Pricing
Some providers might lure you in with super low prices but hit you with hidden fees later on. Always check for clear and transparent pricing. Ensure that any additional costs (like setup fees or overage charges) are laid out upfront.
Check Reviews and Reputation
This is like checking Yelp reviews before going to a restaurant. Do your research—look for reviews and testimonials from customers who have used the provider. Are they happy with the speed? Is the customer support responsive? Sites like TrustPilot, Reddit, and even social media can give you real-world insights into the hosting experience.
Look for Discounts or Special Offers
Many hosting providers offer promotional discounts, especially if you commit to longer-term contracts (like a year or more). Keep an eye out for these deals—just make sure the price stays consistent after the promo period ends.
Step 3: Make Sure You're Not Sacrificing Performance for Cost
A cheap dedicated server doesn’t mean you have to compromise on performance. It’s easy to get caught up in the price tag, but make sure you’re not getting stuck with a slow, unreliable server. Here are a few things to check:
Processor Speed
Look for servers with a decent CPU, especially if you’re running resource-heavy applications. You don’t need the latest i9 processor, but make sure the CPU can handle your needs.
RAM and Storage
Don’t go too low on RAM—8GB is usually the minimum for most modern applications, but you may need more if you're running a larger site. As for storage, try to go with an SSD for faster read/write speeds.
Bandwidth Limits
Some providers offer unmetered bandwidth, which is a game-changer for businesses with unpredictable traffic spikes. This means you won’t get slapped with overage charges if you go over a certain data threshold.
Step 4: Look for Hidden Deals—Think Long-Term Savings
When searching for a cheap dedicated server in Germany, it’s important to think long-term. Here’s how to make sure you’re not overpaying:
Commitment Offers
Many providers offer discounts for long-term contracts, especially if you commit to a year or more. If you’re planning on sticking around, this can save you a significant chunk of change. Just make sure you’re confident in the provider before locking in a long-term contract.
Consider Managed Hosting
If you’re not super tech-savvy, managed hosting might seem like an extra expense, but it can actually save you money in the long run. With managed hosting, the provider takes care of server maintenance, updates, and security, which means you don’t have to hire an external team to manage it.
Step 5: Test the Provider's Customer Support
Before signing the deal, it’s essential to test the customer support of your potential host. You don’t want to be left in the dark when something goes wrong. So reach out to their support team with a simple question and see how fast they respond and how helpful they are.
Pro Tip: If they can’t get back to you quickly or seem unhelpful, consider looking for another provider. Support is everything when it comes to hosting!
Conclusion: Get the Most Bang for Your Buck with a Quality Cheap Dedicated Server
To sum it all up, finding a cheap dedicated server in Germany that doesn’t skimp on quality is all about doing your homework. Start by clearly understanding your hosting needs, comparing different providers, and looking for hidden deals or discounts. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and always test out the customer service before making a commitment.
Remember: just because something’s cheap doesn’t mean it’s bad. With the right approach, you can find a dedicated server that delivers on performance, reliability, and security—all without breaking the bank.

I'm down to help organize, as long as someone else has some sort of experience I've been in zines before and could help with the scheduling planning aspect?
I honestly don't know anybody in our little niche (dreblr/dtblr) that has organized a collaborative zine before. I have organized an exchange and Big Bang before, and have been part of two zines (the calendar and the nikizine). Though of course there are several aspects that come with a calendar, that are not present with exchanges and bbs.
You have a limited amount of spots in the calendar, which comes with running application instead of sign-ups. Which means sending out acceptance and rejection messages/e-mail. You also need to have your printing options figured out by then, since there are 12, 15 and 18 month calendars. Do you even offer a printing option, or just self-print? For a first time project, you probably don't want to do a zine/calendar for profit or charity and just cover printing cost. But even then, you want to find a print on demand services probably so you don't have to carry that upfront cost.
You need a dedicated page designer, having a mockup of what your pages are going to look like before starting the applications might be a good idea too. And you need to make sure artist draw in the right specs (and color profile if you want to print it) To make sure there is variety in the pages, you probably should do pitches for the pages too. There is also an aspect of advertisement for the zine in the organization, most of the time in the form of contributor interviews and snippets. Though, I don't know how important that would be in our niche. Still, organizing that and making those post look pleasing is work.
I don't know, honestly the printing aspect sounds the scariest to me.
The rest is mostly just stuff you need in most events: running a dedicated blog, clear communication, a discord server and so on.

Hello! Do you have any plans after this event is over?
Hello!!! Thanks for the ask!!!
We do have some plans!! We will be working to organize this blog as a nice, accessible way to see what everyone made (making sure everything is tagged consistently, updating any of the promotional posts with anyone or anything we missed, making a masterpost, etc) so that this years event can be stored in a quick easy place. We are also hoping to do a final stats of the number of words and art pieces that people created in this event, stuff like that!
For people who participated in this years event, we're going to keep the Discord server up, though we will be reorganizing it to be a more functional social space rather than more of a creative space. Unfortunately, we have made the decision to keep this server limited to only people who participated, so invites will not be opened to the public. We may also have some changes in leadership for any mods who wish to step down and for any new Discord mods we may want to add to maintain the server.
Some of our mods are going on to run and participate other projects in the fandom! You'll see some familiar faces in the MCYT Co-Create Event, the HotGuy Comics Zine, and the Hermitzine!
There were a number of ideas for future events thrown around (like a hermitshipping podficcing event, fan music event, etc) by participants and mods alike, though there are no solid plans for any of those currently.
We had an amazing time running this event and we hope to do it again in the future! It's unlikely there will be a Hermitshipping Big Bang 2024 (at least, not one run by us 👀) but we're already discussing the possibility of a Hermitshipping REVERSE Big Bang 2025!! 👀👀

Hey, you’re an artist and I know you at least like J&H in general. Are you a glass scientists fan? Would you like to join the Society for Collaborative Arts? It’s a big collaborative fan project we’re doing, and there’s an invite to a discord server for anyone who wants to to participate. I e got it pinned on my blog for your convenience if yes
i love the glass scientists! but i'm not always very active in discords i'm afraid. may i ask what the purpose of the server is? is it just for tgs artists to post works or more like a big bang/art swap style event?

Since you‘ve been into the fandom space due to hxh and jjk…
Which is very valid btw, sometimes it’s takes a while to jump into a community, especially since fandoms are such a mixed bag.
…Have you made some friends/mutuals that you never expected to be friends/mutuals with?
When I joined the HxH fandom was quite insular. There were some very visible big name fans who just engaged with one another. And when you look at fic recs here for HxH you still get the echos of that. You will see certain names repeated over and over again. Actually having someone rec my fics recently made me cry because if my friend Subdee wasn't on a given day on tumblr often when I posted my writing here no one would even leave like on it. I had mutuals literally scroll past my writing and reblog from me fics or ao3 links authored by the popular HxH and not even leave a courtesy like on my fic that was posted around the same time as the reblog.
And this was the situation several years after I joined. For a long time I felt I won't make any friends in the fandom. I actually made my first friends in the fandom when I participated in 2018 HxH big bang. After that event I befriended some people, and I even became acquaintances with some of the popular HxH blogs, even mutuals with some. So yeah, all the friends I made in the fandom were unexpected.
And honestly the HxH fandom here on tumblr is really cool and that's mostly thanks to @shalnarkonice who's the true hero of the fandom. Shal runs the hxhbbs, reverse bb, several other events and a thriving discord server, we made a zine together as in I pitched the idea to Shal and she just fucking put a team together. I had never expected that I would do a huge year long project with Shal. But generally Shal probably brings at least half the fans here together, facilitates so many friendships. HxH fandom really lucked out that it has Shal.
In the JJK fandom on the other hand I hadn't expected to make any friends because the JJK fandom is a fucking dumpster fire, generally, and here in particular, though from what I've heart twitter is worse. Compared to HxH which is a fandom in hibernation, JJK is alive and vibrant. But unlike the HxH fandom, it's full of people who hate read the manga, people who are in the fandom to shit on it, to post their bad faith takes. Or people who just want to write that they don't understand what's going on, lol. Or sometimes just write takes to prove that they really didn't pay attention to anything in the manga. Or just post thirst, and like.. I like some thirst, like this nice dessert to the fandom experience. In JJK it's the main course and it's just too much for me. And there is some art, but mostly of characters I care little about. And it's completely disorganised, there is not Shal who gives the fandom structure so that you can engage with others at this low emotional stakes level by just doing stuff next to each other in an event and get closer if you notice that you vibe together.
No, you have to do direct engagement and that's scary. But I found amazing people in it too. There's cursedvibes and his meta is so good, actually he's my subdee in the JJK fandom. They are both meta royalty plus they are just super neat to talk to in private about anything and everything. I also befriended the wonderful yuujispinkhair, and this is very much wow.
