Close encounters!
My beautiful koi betta Bisby has had a jumping spider neighbor taking advantage of her tank light to hunt bugs under for some time, and recently they met face to face! Very happy to capture each of them acknowledging the other - and Bisby's quick look back at me as if to say "you're seeing this too right?!" 🧡
Edit ✨️ For all those concerned, yes, she does have a lid! I'd just cleaned and was hanging out right there where I filmed from at my office desk. If you are new to fish keeping, please invest in a good lid or when picking setups, favor tank kits that include one!

There’s nothing more satisfyingly productive than coming into an empty library in the morning and leaving only when it closes.
In other words: it has been a long weekend of studying.

After a whole weekend of studying I can say this isn't going to be an easy semester. Instrumental analysis (a mandatory class) is pretty demanding itself and I also have these three physicochemical electives. I'm not exactly complaining - this intersection of chemistry and physics is an extremely interesting place to explore! - but boy is it hard. On top of that, I agreed to tutor my godmother's daughter (her math teacher is an asshole and the poor girl is Struggling™️) bc clearly I am insane like a good challenge. Where I am going to squeeze in thesis work is a mystery to me as well

people who work/study in quantitative bio-adjacent fields, rise up. computational neuroscience where you get to see someone's thoughts in feelings in graph form??? so cool. biophysics where you can pass blood plasma through an electric field to determine whether a patient has cancer or not?? unbelievable. biomedical engineering where you can literally build a device to pump someone's heart and be the difference between their life and death??? oh my god. disease modelling, being able to predict AND prevent communities being affected by disease on a large scale through your analysis of data??? i love science

qPCR and extraction of DNA
This morning I had the opportunity to practice DNA extraction from a blood sample from a South hospital. It was a rather nice experience since I wasn't anxious at all, I had overcome my fear of micropipette.

.
I am once again having a slow day with studying. I am a little stressed about some other things going on outside of uni and I’m trying not to burn myself out. I feel exactly like the cat in the 2nd photo lol.
Currently I’m doing my module 2 workbook and just checking my answers before I make a list of what I need to revise and then start on module 3.
I am planning on making a post about study tips I have / use if anyone is interested in that

This school of scalloped hammerheads was not a sight we expected to see, but what a sight it was! Experts are actually unsure why scalloped hammerheads school, but some theorize they school this way as juveniles, and continue the behavior into young adulthood!

End of the semester 💫
I'm unhappy about my grades, feel like I could've done better :( , but it's definitely an improvement from last semester.
But I'm satisfied with what I learned and my classes were actually pretty cool. Can't wait for next semester starting in August!!!
Some things I'm looking forward to doing over summer break are:
Reading 5 books
Getting back into painting
Watch a movie daily
Essays / learn something daily
and getting back on track with healthy habits 。♡

How and why I fell in love with Language Learning
Hi everyone! I'm Simona and I'm an aspiring polyglot from Italy.
I've been studying foreign languages since elementary school, when I started learning English, and as I grew up, I realized that foreign languages was something that I absolutely loved and wanted to keep in my life, especially because I've also been wanting to travel and explore the world since I was in middle school.
Once I started university (majoring in Modern Languages, of course!), I started my first attempts of self-studying Korean in my free time. During the pandemic, however, my motivation and focused dropped significantly and I shelved any self-studying project.
That was until 2023, when I re-installed Duolingo again and started learning Portuguese.
Now that I've graduated university and started my 9-to-5 job, I am striving to learn Portuguese, Turkish, Slovene and Korean, as part of my goal to be able to speak 10 languages by the time I turn 30.
I'm turning 26 this year, so I do not have many years left, but my education surely helped me immensely, as I have managed to become fluent in English, French and German through school and university.
In addition to this goal, I'm trying to be as present as I can be while learning, which translates to integrating language learning apps with written practice, specific media and grammar resources.
With this blog, I hope to find some other polyglots to share and comment ideas with, as well as a further tool to stay accountable in my language learning journey.
Well, I think I've yapped enough, now it's your turn: how did your language learning journey start? What are your learning goals?

Really focused on chemistry and calculus today. I very much had to: tests next week!
I’m mostly worried about calculus, since I didn’t do so well on the last test, and now I feel the pressure of making up for it. This unit isn’t exactly a piece of cake either, but I still have some time to practice, so hopefully all goes well.
