The current BOP run has me veryyy frustrated because ooohh the dinahbabs and cass&babs mother/daughter dynamic could be eating. we could be fine dining, but no. because of babsgirl.
If you're reading this im assuming you've read the run up until this point. So obvious spoilers:
Listen, I'm a sucker for fighting against time in order to save the one you love, but this falls so flat because all of this could be avoided if she wasn't batgirl.
Like this is TRAGIC but babs would never be in this position if she was oracle.
And the most recent issue literally proves this to be true!
NO! STOP WITH THE SUPERMAN SHIRT RIP! THATS NOT THE KIND OF HERO SHE IS!!
if babs hadn't put on the batgirl suit then the series would be going nowhere AND THATS A PROBLEM
LIKE THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING??!!! SHE SHOULD NOT BE ON THE FIELD??!!
This could be so fucking tragic but its not because we all know none of this would be happening if she was oracle. NONE OF THIS WOULD BE A PROBLEM IF SHE WAS ORACLE
i leave you with this. all of my thoughts on the run can be summarized by this cover believe it or not. bab's loving gaze as she watches the other birds (dinah) work on the mission. shes separated from them implying that she's oracle, but shes standing very able bodied and on the stairs. meaning she can be batgirl when it helps the plot.

I didn't know how badly I needed Cass & Barda friendship (+ the two of them training with Sin) but this is everything to me

Quick thought on Barbara Gordon's role in the new Birds of Prey...
Spoilers for Birds of Prey (2023-) #7
....
Okay so; I am really, really happy that they actually told Barbara about the situation and what was going on this time. After the ending of the #6 I was kinda afraid they were going to do something like keep Babs in the dark while they chose the "Secret Barbara Gordon Defence Squad" route, so I have to say it was quite the relief when they instead went "Work with Oracle to solve this mystery" route.
I guess this fear was mostly due to how they excluded Barbara from the first arc, and kept her entirely in the dark about even the existence of the mission. And then at the end of #6 they made a point of showing that Barbara was indeed hurt by this and they only revealed the reasons after Barbara had already left the roof.
So it was nice to have Barbara immediately get brought into the loop. I've complained a bit about the first arc of this run; and I suppose the heart of my personal issues with it was I felt it was all a tad contrived, between excluding Barbara and having a hero vs hero conflict with the Amazons.
But in #7 not only is Barbara informed of the situation, but she's working alongside Dinah and also acting as Oracle.
Between all of the dead alternate Barbaras being shown wearing their Batgirl outfits and Barbara being dressed as Batgirl in the cover of #7, it was a pleasant surprise to find that Barbara was indeed taking the lead as Oracle instead Batgirl. In fact despite the cover art, she doesn't even use her Batgirl outfit in #7.
Still feel like they should've just told Babs all the way back in #1 and had her take the lead as Oracle back then, but I digress.
With contrived conflict and lack of communication being the main thing which I felt distracted my enjoyment of the first arc, the fact that this new arc is getting kicked off with significantly less of that has made me really enjoy #7 and am looking forward to more.

Cass being called Small/Little Bat is something that can be so personal
Bonus - Cass being bad at story-telling:
But good at putting men into comas!

MAPS FROM THE FUTURE!!!!
A time-travelling hero going by Meridian!
When I first read this I had to stop reading and take five just to process what I had just read. I did not see this coming.
While overall I consider this an amazing thing, for the future of the character after BoP, the two ways I see this going are:
Fixed timeline, where this is Map's unchangeable future, which, while guaranteeing her a spot in the future hero's roster, also severely limits her possibilities for where she can go as a character.
Or the more likely option which seems to be supported by the story, where this is a possible future for her and her actions in this story will invalidate her own existence thus granting her present self the freedom of an undefined future.
Personally, I'm a much bigger fan of the second one and I hope it pans out that way, but either way, we get cannon hero Maps. \o/
Either way, I also don't think this invalidates the possibility of Robin Maps. Future Maps could have been Robin and then graduated to her own hero persona. Or if future Maps gets invalidated we still have the option, just with cannon evidence that Maps is hero material.
Regardless of any of this. I have no idea how I'm going to wait for the next issue in a month. I am going feral over this.

Alright. . . I knew going in the new Birds of Prey books was going to have a wonky premise, but I don't think I've ever been blind sided as thoroughly as I just was by time traveling Mia Mizoguchi.
