The side and back gardens are starting to liven up. From the top: imperial fritillary, blue speedwell and Greek windflower. Edit: also I forgot to mention grape hyacinth.

These Grecian Windflowers are new additions to the garden. I really like them and may plant more next fall. Hoping they spread and form a nice carpet of pretty blooms. The foliage is adorable too. The flowers close at dusk.
Anemonoides blanda, syn. Anemone blanda, the Balkan anemone, Grecian windflower, or winter windflower, is a species of flowering plant in the family Ranunculaceae. The species is native to southeastern Europe and the Middle East. The specific epithet blanda means "mild" or "charming".
Windflowers do best in areas that offer at least a half day of shade, but will grow well in full shade too. That makes these a spectacular bulb for woodland areas, under trees, along edging, or as a mass planting. They do best in rich, well-draining soil.
Uses. Mix and mass for an excellent, early-blooming variety of colors for the rock garden, perennial border, wild garden or naturalized open woodland area. Excellent in large drifts under spring flowering trees. Good container plant.
Herbalists in the Middle Ages used A. blanda as treatment for gout and headaches. Due to their toxicity, they are no longer used as medications.

Greek Anemone
Anemonoides blanda

Remnants of a long abandoned Victorian era garden, these beautiful deep purple flowers are now growing as a naturalized small population in hillside woods overlooking the Mississippi River. Although they're not native to this region, they're thankfully not one of the several invasive species taking over the local ecosystem.

@itsmyturnonthegender submitted: Apologies for the poor lighting, can you id my moth friend? Found in north Queensland, Australia
Even blurry, I’d recognize that silly stance anywhere! It’s a geometer moth in the genus Pingasa. This one I think looks like Pingasa blanda. Here’s a clearer photo of one to admire:

They don’t always hold their wings like this, though. Sometimes they just look like normal geometers:

Yes, it’s that time of year when the garden is fully awake
So it needs to be strolled in and a few snaps taken. Birds and minibeasts have nibbled many flowers but even if not pristine it’s still nice to keep a record. I now have photos of the same plants going back over many years but I can’t resist taking their portraits again.
Daffs are a mixed blessing this year, not as structured in the garden as we hoped as those from previous years (often brighter yellows) seem to clash with the more muted pallette that we now want. I suppose they should be tagged and removed? Leucojum and Fritillaries have spread and make impressive displays now. Clematis are always welcome, even if all there is is a sigle bloom. Vinca, Anemone and Euphorbia are spreading too. We just need a bigger garden.

Arro the Caveman
Tumblr media
Arro is a just a caveman; he exists in only one story whose sole narrative is hunting an animal to provide his nameless girlfriend demanding a set of leopard skin furs; only for him to encounter a sabre-tooth tiger and successfully killed it and created a rolling sled to pull it back to his tiny community. Only to be shrewly scolded for getting the wrong animal by his partner.
This is very much in the same frame as Blanda and to a lesser degree Cave Girl; in that there's nothing to really keep anything from the original content related to the character. In that Arro is just a survivalist hunter in a time where every battle and fight is a life or death scenario. Arro is a strong-man, tracker, archer and is very intelligent enough to build a sled capable of dragging a large animal several miles back to his home.
This means when building ideas for a new age tale using Arro the Caveman would very much a Conan the Barbarian style no-magic primitive civilisation fantasy. Whether or not Arro seeks to establish a kingdom or try and remain a wild ungovernable caveman living off of the land.
Alternatively magic could exist but simply be a very, very dangerous and alien thing that people don't quite comprehend; meaning that any mage is just as likely to kill themselves as they are capable of throwing lightning or fireballs. Which could led to a narrative of sorcerer kings building their empires and seeking to 'civilise' and 'refine' the savage realms of their world. Forcing Arro to try and build various objects and find a way to repel and force the sorcerer kings and their forces away from his home, people and lands.
Or this could be a unique isekai (transported/trapped in another world) narrative wherein a modern day man is thrown into a wild and alien fantasy pre-society world. Forcing him to survive and try and quickly learn and develop techniques and technologies to not let the wild lands of this fantasy world from killing him.
