I don't think we're meant to take Nanami's opinion on Gojo as the Absolute Truth. It's true about a side of Gojo, as he does get almost perverse joy in fighting, but it doesn't mean he doesn't care about anything else. Nanami has always thought Gojo was that kind of person anyway, remember when he said Gojo was like Mahito? And Gojo looks very upset when he said this, almost uncharacteristically so.

He doesn't try and argue against it, but the chapter also explicitly says that Gojo loved everyone, but he felt distanced and like he couldn't ask to be understood by them. I read it as Gojo just accepting that's how he's seen.

Also, Gojo's main worry initially being not getting to tell Megumi about Toji and then thinking Shoko will handle it suggests that he believes his students, Megumi included will be fine which is why he's not worrying.

I get what you're saying, I really do, but the truth of the matter is that sometimes, characters are not characters but rather a writer's mouthpiece. Especially in moments like these where it is an important character's death and his apparent last scene in the series. If it turns out that Gojo does revive, then I will totally eat my words, because that will mean that all of these revelations in this chapter were meant for Gojo to wash himself clean of in order to be reborn anew as no longer The Strongest who uses Jujutsu to satisfy himself, but as Gojo Satoru the Person, the Teacher who, for the first time in his life, needs others' help and will ask to share the burden he previously held as The Strongest. No longer using Jujutsu to satisfy his selfish need to give meaning to his "enlightened" self because he's above it all, but as Gojo Satoru, someone who cares about his friends and students and the world he occupies. However, as things stand right now, that's not how it is. I really do think this is the end of the road. I want him to revive, you have no idea how much I want him to live and to survive ... but I really believe that this was it. This was supposed to be Gege's vision for Gojo's ending. And that includes taking what Nanami said as the big and true and final epiphany about Gojo as a character.

And while I say that, it's not like Gojo being lonely because of his role in Jujutsu society or that he's a very selfish person is unknown or not hinted at, or something. It's the total subversion of his selfless side that's the issue here in this chapter, but I'm going to talk about that in detail on a different post sometime soon, so give me some time.

Some meta , I guess ~ Yhwach's whole convoluted plan was to basically have a world without fear : without the fear of death Rukia's been labeled as ' Death' since Day 1 / Chapter 1 of the Bleach series by Kubo in IchiRuki's Death & Strawberry / Deathberry title After the Royal Palace training , Rukia subsequently even acquires a ' Death State ' through lowering the temperature of her body and her Absolute Zero As Nodt is essentially the embodiment of Fear - Bankai Rukia disintegrates him into snow dust - and so , she has conquered ' fear ' - as the TYBW anime also shows even As Nodt's F shrift being shattered into nothing by her ice In the final chapter / 686 , Aizen ultimately labels Rukia & Ichigo as ' Courage ' What I'm getting at is , Rukia has more or less , thematically accomplished what Yhwach ever so wanted : she has no fear , as she is titled as and can even enter a state of ' Death ' And , this is exactly one of the multitude of reasons for why it makes all the sense in the world , for the final fight of the Bleach series , to be Bankai IR vs Yhwach It should be - it must be - it needs to be - it has to be - I still hope for it - but , I sincerely doubt it will

Bleach ends as it began.

Well, almost. Following from what I said in the previous post, it's not a coincidence that the last page has two children-- the physical representation of the bonds between people-- meeting for the first time.

We call back to Ichigo and Rukia to remind us of what can come from these meetings, these nascent bonds between people. Neither of them was in a particularly great place in their life at the time, but that chance encounter led to...well, the entire 686-chapter story we just read. To a tapestry of bonds that spread throughout the many, many characters who appeared over the course of the story. To love. To newfound maturity for young adults, and perhaps to newfound humility for their mentors. To a reconsideration of the role and governance of the protectors of the afterlife. A lot happened, is what I'm saying.

But it also led to this. Ichika and Kazui will have their own stories, stories that won't be told in these pages, and that's exactly why it's so important that we see the two of them here. Because the story ends...but stories don't end. Not really.

What are your reasons for not liking the Ichigo and Rukia pairing? Since the anon mistakenly thinks that IR is only unpopular because of their age gap. Though that IS a huge red flag and Ick, there were other factors behind me not enjoying this idea of a pairing.

Besides the age gap, I just think ichiruki is boring as a romantic ship. Their development was pretty much complete after the SS arc, and things just became so static after that. In the arrancar arc, Rukia shows up, kicks Ichigo in the head, and gives him a pep talk to get him out of his funk...Then after a seventeen month timeskip and almost 300 chapters later in the FB arc, Rukia shows up and does the same thing. Kicks him in the head and gives him a pep talk to get him out of his funk. Almost a copy and paste of the same scene (and obviously IH has some "repeat scenes" like the walking home thing but I'll touch on that in a second). But how boring is that? I feel like if I were an IR fan I'd be like...really? This again?? After all this time? Nothing new, nothing different? That was their big reunion and it was a copy of the last one. I'd be so bored and disappointed lmao. Like where is the development, where is a change or something new happening between them that I can get excited about?

Whereas with IchiHime, we literally saw Orihime go from being sidelined in the beginning, to Ichigo being too overprotective of her, to all the angst and darkness in the HM/lust arcs, to rising back up in the FB arc, to Orihime becoming more independent and Ichigo trusting her more, to Ichigo literally asking Orihime to fight side by side with him against the final boss. And all the while, they're becoming closer friends--like the change from Orihime being just a friend of a friend in the beginning, to Ichigo sharing manga with her and feeling comfortable enough to invite her up to his bedroom and close the door in the FB arc. To Orihime being so incredibly nervous about being in his room in the FB arc, to marching in like she owns the place in the final arc. Things were consistently changing between them, and it kept me invested. Even with the cute call-back scenes Kubo used like the headbump and asking to walk her home, things were still changing.

And all of those changes showed how their bond was growing stronger over time, how they were growing closer, growing to trust each other more, how so much had changed and shifted and *developed* throughout the entire manga, from beginning to end. Like, you can literally see the development from one arc to the next and that's one of the things that kept me so engaged and invested in IH throughout Bleach's long run. Because I couldn't wait to see what Kubo was going to write for them next, what new change he was going to add in, and he just kept delivering.

Orihime went from just a classmate, to the girl Ichigo made a singular vow to protect (and then rose up from the dead to keep that vow). Ichigo went from the boy Orihime had to watch from afar and feel helpless that she couldn't protect him, to the boy she was fighting side by side with against a god, at Ichigo's request. Like...the changes, the growth! There was so much to sink my teeth into with ichihime. I never grew bored.

By comparison, I just don't have that much to say about ichiruki. While ichihime was a nice, long slow-burn (which I love) that lasted from beginning to end, I feel like IR developed fast and early and then had nowhere else to go. They begrudgingly formed a mentor/student partnership in the first few chapters, and then they had a strong bond solidified by the end of the SS arc (chapter 181 out of 686). So the bulk of their development was contained in the first third of the story. After that, things stayed relatively the same between them for the rest of the series. Nothing but long stretches of time spent apart, interspersed with copy and paste reunions of head-kicks and pep talks, where their bond was reinforced as the same old thing it was half the manga ago.

I'm one of the fools who decided to read bleach in the year of our lord 2025 and there are things I love so much about it and just as many things I hate. I feel like the main cast sans Ichigo and Rukia are not really that close. Uryu and Ichigo's bickering is cute. Ichiruki of course delivered. But I feel like I'm simply forcing myself to read now. I finished the Fullbring arc today. The things I've heard about TYBW arc don't really excite me. Uryu is going to be sidelined in what is supposed to be his own arc, Rukia is going to fade out and Zangetsu(the real one) does not get much appearance either. Those cut a lot of points off. As soon as I clicked onto next chapter and went into chapter 480 and saw Yhwach staring at me, I just felt all the excitement of Ichigo getting back up drain out of me. I'll just lock in for Rukia and Unohana's bankais on YouTube and find out how Ukitake dies and start reading the longer, alternative fanfictions. Gotta find a video of all the anime openings and endings as well. Is there anything in the last arc that makes it worth dragging oneself through 206 chapters?

I personally enjoyed the arc more than the Fullbring arc. I once wrote a post here about most of the things I enjoyed in it (so, MAJOR SPOILERS!).

It was, of course, the final 2 chapters that ruined everything. Rushed & completely nonsensical ending that left many plot holes & wasted potential in its wake. Some think the last few chapters before 685-686 were when the nonsensical ending truly began, such as when Ichigo had no choice but to take Ori with him to fight Ywach (she was the only one left), instead of Rukia (Urahara's cryptic words of "Forgive me... for leaving everything to you on your way... Kurosaki-san... Kuchiki-san..." Like, HELLO??) or even when it was Renji who gave Ichigo an encouraging "speech" as he headed to face Ywach again—as his tag team with Ori had obviously failed—instead of it being Rukia (as she always had been).

I remember when the manga suddenly announced it was going to end soon (something like the "last 5 or so chapters left") & I was like, what?! Already?! But what about this, this, & that?! It still had so many things to resolve, to explain... I could already tell it was gonna be full of plot holes...but we still had no idea how truly garbage the ending was going to be...

As such, I haven't been interested in watching the anime adaptation of TYBW. From what I've heard, it doesn't seem like the anime has filled in any of the plot holes. Hasn't addressed any of the things I care about. And I heard it's already entering its final season/cour? Yeah, it's most likely not gonna do much 😒. I've only seen a couple clips, tho (just certain things I like, such as Rukia's bankai, Grimmjow, Nelliel...). There are only a couple things left that I will look up clips of when they come out (older Hitsugaya 💖).

Anyway, if any of the things I mentioned in the post I linked are of any interest to you, you can go ahead, as long as you keep in mind how things will end up. Think of it as...incomplete? That's how it felt to me.

I just read all 686 chapters of Bleach in 3 days. My usual pace of reading manga is about 50 chapters a day, but this can vary depending on how much I like something, and it increases a lot when I'm re-reading a manga. I've read all 500ish chapters of Dragon Ball in 2 days once.

Bleach was actually better than I remembered, aside from the last arc which I felt dragged on too much.
