Daily Life in the Phyrexian Spheres (Dross to Seedcore)

Previous: Facade to Furnace, Maze to Bays

The Dross Pits, much like its previous incarnation in the Mephidross of Mirrodin's surface, is a sphere rife with intrigue, double-crossing, and back-alley deals. The social structure is feudal, with lords ruling over masses of serfs and slaves, and thanes make up the top of the social pyramid. Dark, towering citadels of flesh and bone rise out of the necrogen mists, which bathe the entire layer in an eerie green glow. Large swathes of territory are controlled by thanes, lords, and magical creatures such as blight dragons and archfiends.

This sphere is densely populated, with the vast majority of its inhabitants making up the servant classes that live and die under feudal lords. Compleated Mirrans begin at the very bottom and most have little hope of ever ascending past this station, as the Steel Thanes' obsession with Phyrexian purity leads to heavy discrimination against those who are not Phyrexian-born. This obsession extends to a scrutiny of every Phyrexian's pedigree--the further removed a person is from their last non-core-born ancestor, the purer their bloodline is considered, leading to a higher chance of social advancement. As such, first-generation core-born Phyrexians (born to compleated Mirrans) are only barely considered truly Phyrexian and share their parents' meager social standing. As Phyrexians are immortal and have no need for heirs, faction members produce scions to serve their own advancement, not to eventually succeed them. Of course, said scions are rarely happy with this arrangement, seeking to usurp their parents and seize their assets instead.

Magically and technologically, the inhabitants of the Dross Pits largely focus on emulating Yawgmoth-era techniques gleaned from scrying the glistening oil. Due to the heavy emphasis on ichor magic and intrigue, glistening oil from individuals of interest--and the intelligence it contains--is an invaluable commodity in the Dross Pits. Bloodsuckers like necrosquitoes and pistid swarms are often employed to this end, fueling an illicit trade of stolen bodily fluids.

Much like the Furnace, the Dross Pits do not have an overarching system of governance or standard of law, and political allegiances vary widely. Pockets of the Dross Pits are strongholds of the Phyrexian rebellion, though they are severely handicapped by the loyalist spheres blocking them both above and below. Every thane has at least nominally allied with either Elesh Norn or the rebellion, though they are ultimately beholden only to themselves and care little for the ideals of either side.

The Fair Basilica is the innermost inhabited sphere and the de facto capital of New Phyrexia, where Elesh Norn rules from her palace and the majority of the Phyrexian military is housed. In the heart of Norn's empire, every aspect of daily life is carefully regimented and monitored; people are marched in orderly rows down alabaster bridges, flanked constantly by armed enforcers and their swarms of patrol mites. Flights of angels keep constant watch in the skies. Staggering acts of brutality are committed against any who display signs of deviance, and commoners are all too used to keeping their heads down and trying not to watch as their peers' oil is scrubbed from the streets.

Every resident of the Fair Basilica is expected to devote a significant portion of their time to worship, and the rest to assigned duties like patrolling or working the flesh-vats. Those who need to sleep do so on strict schedules under the watchful eyes of supervisors. Newts are raised by the state, rigorously educated on the Orthodoxy's religious tenets, and often apprentice under cenobites, which continues after their compleation; Mirran aspirants commonly join them.

Though it relies heavily on other spheres for commodities like raw material and technology, the Fair Basilica is at least self-sufficient in growing its own porcelain metal, which spreads in a fungus-like manner on recently dead flesh. It is mass-produced in giant growth vats, alongside Basilica inhabitants' germ offspring and seedpod centurions for the invasion (often bodies without minds, hollow for puppeting via ichor magic).

Rebellion is most difficult in the Basilica due to its oppressive environment and authorities' vested interest in controlling the flow of information--and oil--into and out of the sphere. The news fed to residents is tightly curated, requiring workarounds to even hear of the rebellion's presence at all. That said, dissident spies have managed to infiltrate even the innermost of the loyalist spheres.

The Mycosynth Gardens form a natural barrier between the populated Phyrexian spheres and the Seedcore, and passage through them is controlled exclusively by Elesh Norn herself. The Gardens themselves are uninhabited by sapient Phyrexians, though fauna like inkmoths and skitterlings roam the silent lattices, and the mycosynth itself is known to create lures or other, more cryptic structures that mimic passersby.

The Seedcore, the innermost layer of New Phyrexia, is the domain of Elesh Norn alone, where she keeps the World Tree sapling Realmbreaker imprisoned and firmly subjugated under layers of mind-altering magic. Very rarely, Norn holds the most confidential of her audiences here with her inner circle or other crucial allies. The sphere is heavily warded against incoming divination, telepathy, and any other possible interference with Norn's plans, but here lays Norn's crucial oversight: there are no such protections against communication going out, allowing Realmbreaker's telepathic distress call to pass through into the Multiverse.

And that's it for overviews of the nine Phyrexian spheres, from the perspective of a far more average commoner Phyrexian than we're used to hearing about. There's always more to be said about each of them, of course, and I hope this helps get people started thinking about their own expansions, headcanon, or additions!

A young girl was wandering through the markets, stealing food and knick knacks from under the watchful eyes of the vendors. Her brother was keeping an eye on her from the shadows, ready to jump in if she was caught. Upon passing his hiding spot with a bag of goods, the two scurried to another hiding spot together. Shouts could be heard from the markets of a thief, but the two siblings were well hidden and giggling at the fact, that they had once again been successful.

Misty nodded happily before helping herself to some fruit. Just as Ashley was about to reach for a strawberry, Glenn and Blight stepped into the room and took their respective seats.

Priscilla Paddock/ Priscilla "the Killa" Paddock.

THE UNDEFEATED BRAWLER!

On the wasteland hellish world of Apokolips. The people are barely people there is no hope, no escape & no real love. Except however, for the cruel, twisted, sick wrapped version of love from Mistress Blight.

On one of the supervillains rads the evil witch traveled to the world of amphibia to take with her new slaves for her own service. The demons attacked taking quite a few in numbers one of their targets was Priscilla Paddock. The tall muscular female pink newt fought the beasts & was victorious but the same could not be said about her daughter Pearl.

Odalia’s monsters took the newts child back on one of the ships. Priscilla followed them and was able to board onto the same with blazing fire and unyielding spirt, the mother fought without end to the point of exhaustion only to be captured and restrained.

Upon the arrival on Apokolips. Priscilla was separated from Pearl and put into the care of Odalia who subjected her to non-stop torture but the mother would never break & so decided to throw the anthropomorphic beast into the Pits. To do battle with the other slaves of the Planet for entertainment.

Nobody could defeat her and her former name Priscilla “The Killa” started to have a whole new name and effect. Becoming undefeated to all who entered the ring none would challenge her except for one. The ruler of Apokolips himself Darkseid. She was defeated easily being no match for the god of this horrible world expecting death to come knowing her daughter still waiting for her and to return home becoming a flame about too go out.

Awakening from the battle the Newt was once again locked in restraints in one of Odalia’s chambers with a deal. However, this deal was more of a everlasting service of submission.

If the mother agreed to serve Darkseid and become Odalia’s slaves, Pearl would not be subjugated to the witches cruel training or any harm from Apokolips. With little to no options Priscilla had no chose but agree and was quickly put on the same operation procedure Odalia went through as well. Becoming a new god, now Priscilla has no choice but to follow Odalia’s orders no matter how much she does not want to. Becoming a traitor to her home world and people.

Powers And Abilites

New God Physiology: The beings of New Genesis call themselves Gods and live outside of normal time and space in a realm called the Fourth World. These New Gods have evolved due to their close proximity to the Source, a primeval energy, believed to be one of the ultimate foundations of the Universal Expression of Energy, along with their superior technology, into beings of genetic stability and evolutionary perfection. The denizens of New Genesis are immortal, stronger, faster, and smarter than homo sapiens, Amphibians, witches, despite their resemblance to the same.

Immortality: Priscilla functionally immortal, Priscilla is immune to the ravages of time, and could easily live for thousands upon thousands of years.

SuperDurability: Even outside her armor, Priscilla is fairly difficult to damage. Her skin is unbreakable. She is resistant to blunt trauma like punches, kicks, and blows from weapons like bats and maces, though not completely immune. unless the blows are dealt by a being with similar or greater strength than Priscilla, there just isn't a chance of injury. However, without here accelerated healing her invulnerability does not extend to bullets, laser-blasts, or other piercing/slicing weapons - her invulnerability is more akin to that of an Amazon, rather than a Kryptonian.

Super Reflexes: Priscilla has an enhanced physiology which allows her to move her entire body at incredible speeds and with heightened accuracy. Despite wielding weapons and armor and even alien tech, she's able to move and flow with astonishing ease. Given the opportunity Priscilla can and will dodge bullets which would've normally bounced off her armor.

Super Stamina: Priscilla’s stamina and endurance is nothing short of amazing. Due to the naturally exhausting and extensive rigors of her life on Apokolips, Priscilla is able to manage her stamina on a certain amount of rest and sustenance (more than minimal) so that it seems she is able to constantly function, though this is not entirely the case. Tied directly to her strength and invulnerability, even her immunity to a certain extent, Priscilla can actually function at peak efficiency for more the almost 48 hours before needing to eat & rest off the stress.

Super Strength: B.B.K’s Super strength comes from surgical transformation becoming a New Genesis species. All of the people of this makeup are genetically superior to normal humans, Amphibians, witches in their physical characteristics. She was later augmented by Darkseid to further increase her strength and stamina at least by twenty-fold. Now Priscilla’s strength is in the megaton range, nearly on the order of Wonder Woman's, easily able to lift a weight well surpassing 100 tons.

Accelerated healing Factor: A unique ability uncovered from her surgery Priscilla’s healing factor allows her to heal at an incredible rate far faster then others. This ability is what allows her skin to be unbreakable. Without it active she could be subjected to pain even with her new physiology.

Abilities

Hand-to-Hand Combat (Advanced): Even before Killa’s time on the planet the woman was a gifted fighter but now she has become is a highly trained warrior and a master of all forms of hand-to-hand combat and combat with weapons. Being known as the undefeated killer, so feared not even the worse of individuals in “The Pits” would dare fight her. Her skills can be a match for beings Like Wonder Woman & Hawk at times to a draw.

Wrestling: Killa is skilled in close quarter combat being her specialty locking her enemies in quick succession.

Weaponry: If she’s without a weapon then its only because BBK is the weapon. Her time in the endless battles on Apokolips has made her a master from melee weaponry to firearms and so on defeat is not a option for her and, she will use anything from a rock to ones own hair to bring victory not for Odalia, Apokolips, or Darkseid but for the most important person her daughter.

Dancing: Despite her Ruthless exterior and brutal performances Killa still holds the love of dancing like she use to back on Amphibia in secret. It is one of the theings she has to remember her home and feel a connection to Pearl.

Apokaliptain Armor: Priscilla’s wears Apokoliptian battle armor, which enhances her already impressive durability. Her armor has two forms, Red form allows for move moment and power while, her Blue form takes on a completely new appearance & offers more protection along with firepower.

Boom-Tube: The Mega-Rod has a built in Boom-Tube used for an extra-dimensional point-to-point travel.

Mega-Rod: the personal weapon of Big Brawler Killa. used it as a hand to hand weapon, to fire energy blasts and as a means of transportation. The Mega-Rod is capable of projecting a wide-arcing blast of concussive force powerful enough to tear through the hull of a heavily armored ship. This weapon can create boom tubes for teleportation over long distances, propel her high into the air and release energy blast capable of bringing down such powerful beings as SuperWoman.

Spear: Create a construct of a spear for battle.

Shield: Create a construct of a shield for protection.

Weaknesses

SuperWoman: Big Brawler Killa maybe powerful but even she cannot match up to defeating the Woman Of Steel, not even a match for PowerGirl.

Power Limiter: Like PowerGirl, Priscilla is forced to wear a noose-collar around her neck to make herself not only Odalia’s pet & a reminder of her freedom gone as well. Odalia has full control over the muscular females powers with a simple flip of the switch like PG this collar cannot be removed without causing so much pain the victim believes their heart gives out. The witch can cut off Priscilla’s power just as easily as she gives it back.
