My all time favorite shiny hunts though ARE the oddly specific ones though. LIKE ESPP if they're full odds but have a gimmick to them --
Most famous one ofc is the HG/SS starter hunt!!! Where you can check all three starters for shininess before choosing one:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately!!!! This guy has my deadname as the OT LMFAOOO but it was a cool hunt!! Just under odds (around 7000 resets)
BUT. THE SCARY OPTION.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Doing double battle hunts w any of the companions that can join you temporarily in DPPt is fucking WILD and STUPID and extremely rewarding! Unless if you somehow by some monkey paw's luck run into two shinies at once. Then your game freezes!!!!!!!!! 😇
MIRACULOUSLY I got my target though under odds (around 3000) no phases no game freezing catastrophies!!!! 🫡
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They live in different files now! I. Have a bad habit of starting new files and then forgetting. And abandoning them at any point. And feeling like I need to start over again. BUT whenever I DO start over it's VERY cool to have a low level shiny to play through with!! 😅 And ofc in these files I can't really start anew without it being more trouble than it's worth, so. I may return. Eventually........
And. Not technically full odds but how could I talk Oddly Specific Hunts and not mention:
Tumblr media
Sunchip................ (I have done the Odd Egg hunt more times than I can fucking count LMFAOOO -- honorable mention to Dizzy my Hitmontop as well idk where he is though and I hit image limit 🫡)

if you don’t want to get into detail about this i completely understand but i was wondering how you’ve been downloading videos, specifically ones like the v**ps one because i was doing everything i could to try to rip it and i couldn’t
so ngl that day was an extremely protracted process for me and it involved a lot of, like SO MUCH, googling but i will try and write what i remember - HUGE DISCLAIMER i’m seriously really really really really IT deficient and i honestly just managed to fumble my way into succeeding this one time only, i understood about 2% of what i was doing. the power of fall out boy forever and being down woeful for patrick
ok so *huddles in closer together*
btw i don't have access to the msg video anymore since i only had a week lol so any examples here are from the boz one !!!
at first i tried to just use my usual browser extension (video downloadhelper) to try and rip the stream however it's drm protected so it just gave me a huge file that only had like glitchy static and no audio, which means it's encrypted, and you need a decryption key
you need a cdm (content decryption module) to get a decryption key. i actually got really far with this and managed to get one using a virtual android phone before realising i didn't have to DO ALL THAT and can just use cdrm-project.com for this. i don't wanna dwell on it
so on the cdrm-project page, for this task you only need the PSSH and the license url.
step 1: turn off your adblock first lol i learned this the hard way. also yes you may sing this to the tune of run dry
step 2: to get the PSSH - go to the video page and play a little bit of it -> right click -> inspect -> in the "filter urls" search type "m3u8" -> look for the one that's like "widevine_cmaf_avc.m3u8" since i believe this will be the master file -> right click it -> copy value -> copy url
Tumblr media
open command prompt -> type "curl" then paste the url, press enter -> the string of stuff beginning with AAAA is the PSSH, copy it
Tumblr media
step 3: to get the license url - filter urls for "wide" -> this was the correct one
Tumblr media
right click this -> copy value -> copy url
step 4: paste the PSSH and the license url into the appropriate boxes on cdrm-project and it will give you the decryption key KEEP IT AROUND
step 5: i downloaded n_m3u8DL-RE and mp4decrypt (bento4) -> unzip both -> place mp4decrypt in the same folder as n_m3u8DL-RE
step 6: open command prompt -> first place yourself in the right directory as where n_m3u8DL-RE folder is (copy address in file explorer -> type "cd" in command prompt -> paste address, press enter)
step 7: now use this command in command prompt: N_m3u8DL-RE -M format=mp4 --key [use the key gotten from the cdrm-project page] [use the master .m3u8 url]
Tumblr media
it will show you a bunch of options for selecting the resolution you want, press enter and it'll start working
Tumblr media
step 8: it'll take a minute so wait until it says DONE -> find the completed video file in the same folder as n_m3u8DL-RE !!
i will tell you something hilarious i discovered: i think the key works for all the videos currently up on the site. its why the boz one was a fucking breeze to get after all that for the msg one LMAOOOO and i even downloaded a couple random other things
for other videos like dvd rips i do those using handbrake which is easy and painless frolicking in a field in comparison💀

hii im self-indulging a little...but i like the idea of player!who brings there pokemon into madness combat <3 perhaps sword and shield? (and no this isn't my swsh team are you crazzyy noo) /j
i'm going to use Araquanid, Durant, Sandaconda, Turtonator, Golurk, and Phantump.
the main 4 no nothing about players pokemon until they read the dex entries and are pretty intimidated...
Such as Araquanid's alolan dex entries all say that it stores prey and items of value in its head, they don't think much of it till' the pokemon sucks an aahw agent into its bubble....
In Durant's shield entry, It says that Durant can crunch its way through rock. This might come in handy when they need to go into aahw bases or look for supplies.
I feel like Sandaconda would THRIVE in Nevada. Look at these entries!
Tumblr media
Sandaconda also has an ability called "Sandaconda's Sand Spit" which triggers a sandstorm at the end of the round if Sandaconda was hit. I think it would be really cool if Sandaconda was on a mission with Hank and used the ability as a way to suprise the enemy. I love Sandaconda, if you couldn't tell.
All of Turtonator's entires state that its back is covered in explosive substances, Turtonator and Deimos are a match made in hell. If you see them, RUN. They are about to ruin your life.
In one of the episodes entries, Golurk is said to be completely loyal to it's masters orders. I feel like it would be one of the robots from sci-fi movies that would hurt/kill you on sight if it wanted to...they love it.
In the Y, Alpha Sapphire, Sun/Ultra Sun, Sword, and Shield entries, they all state that the Phantump is a child possessing a rotten tree stump. The other entries suggest that the leaves on its head can cure illnesses. The main 4 begin to wonder who Phantump was...a friend of player, perhaps?
I think the Madcom Bois would be either fascinated or intimidated by Pokemon. I mean, it doesn't even have to be just six pokemon! If you played more then one pokemon game, like I have, I think you would be able to use your parties from all the games you've played. Because the Player is in the digital world and they have access to not only computer stuff, but consoles and handhelds too. If that's too farfetched, you can also use emulators which still gives the Player their pokemon. Especially if they emulate regularly. This would be my personal team here!
Tumblr media
My favorites and their names too! I have multiple files with multiple versions of these pokemon. I adore them so much!

Family Curse Liveblog Pt.1
TT: Nice, so this one’s a game about a haunted house. Fucking love those kinds of games. Sollux even played Anatomy by kittyhorrorshow once.
TT: Okay, so no voice acting this time. That can be pretty good for atmosphere sometimes, especially if they want you to feel like the character and not some observe that happens to have control.
TT: Dude I don’t think the inheritance is the house. It’s all in the name, you’re probably going to get cursed.
TT: Sure, go check out the house you supposedly inherited, at dusk, alone. Not even an attorney or a real estate guy or anything.
TT: The instructions when you interact with something you can’t use or that is incomplete are so borderline patronizing. In my opinion.
TT: Main character falls asleep and now there’s blood everywhere. Like on the walls. Joy.
TT: Is that crying, laughing, or coughing?
TT: Ritual circle, of course.
TT: Aaaand the front door is gone. Really like that they’ve given the character a reason to stay in the house. Because, you know, it’s obviously haunted as SHIT.
TT: Another ritual circle? How many rituals were going on?
TT: Well, the back door opens, but that is one fucking tall fence.
TT: That is a body. Just, you know, lying on the dining room table, nothing out of the ordinary here. IT’S FACE IS HOLLOWED OUT? WHAT THE FUCK? IS THERE EVEN ANY SKULL LEFT? BECAUSE THAT JUST LOOKS LIKE SKIN?
TT: …Okay, it’s an impressive model, but maybe. Stop looking at it now? Or not, that’s fine too.
TT: New room unlocked! Also I managed to pause just as the jumpscare was starting. Send help.
TT: Okay, it vanished, whatever it was. Looked like a woman.
TT: So why is the medical file of one Lily Krouse here? Was the previous occupant employed at a hospital? There’s stacks of what could be similar files.
TT: I’m already expecting to get jumpscared again…
TT: Ah. The master bedroom. As Anatomy says, if a house had a mouth, it would be here. I’ll be surprised if nothing happens in this room.
TT: No jumpscare so far, just jazzy music. Mood dissonance. I like when horror does that.
TT: Of course there’s a random crying figure as soon as you exit the bedroom. Of course.
TT: Got jumpscared so bad I hit the fast forward button. Looks like the same apparition.
TT: And again! My fucking heart, jesus fucking christ.
TT: Just keep away from any cell-like bars in horror games. They’re usually bad news.
TT: Gab’s right, major ResE7 vibes from this part.
TT: Is that Russian? The ghosts are whispering in Russian. Probably the game was made by people who speak Russian. But still, if I walked into a room and heard ghostly whispering in Russian, I’d leave. Not because I’m scared of Russians, but because if I can’t understand them, how would I know the difference between “BE GONE!” and “Hey dude, how’s it going!”
TT: So the ghost seems to have turned into some kind of monster. If the shift key works in this game I would be pressing it about now. She could be right behind you.
TT: Evil painting. Maybe check that it isn’t a mirror? Or something?
TT: That is one long musical sting.
TT: At this point, if I were the mc, I would just stop opening doors.
TT: Wait so how many ghosts even are there? Maybe one woman, two girls. I think. One of the girls is a monster right now though.
TT: Dw about it Gab, sometimes the best way to solve a puzzle is to PRESS ALL THE BUTTONS until it works.
TT: At least the house is (relatively) back to normal. Hey! Rude ghost. Breaking mirrors is lowering the property value. Oh okay, it just phased through it. Wonder why it made a shattering sound.
TT: This Ms. Dawson sounds suspicious. Told you, she really got Lily possessed by the deity she claimed would help her.
TT: So the ghost is the main character’s sister, and the other ghost is the demon thing?
TT: Gab, the envelope. The greenhouse code is the initials on the left. BEA.
TT: There we go.
TT: Going to pause my ramblings for now, gotta work on the intro and such. Also I don’t think I can handle many more jump-scares.

On dreams and the lonely road to them.
When I was younger, people asked me what I wanted to be. I answered like a child would. "I want to be an astronomer", "I want to research stars and work with space probes!". People smiled, saying I was a smart little girl. But I think they expected me to stop answering like that at some point. To give a "grown up" answer. But I never really did.
I'm in second to last semester of college, studying exactly what I said I would when I was 13: physics. Since I started, I never hesitated when people asked me what I wanted after college. "I want to go to Europe", "I want to do a Masters and specialize in Astrophysics and Cosmology". Again, they thought it sounded cool. But it sounded like freshman talk. I think they also expected me to settle for something less, well, out of my league. I'm not rich, after all, and come from the third world. But now I'm so close to going. Now would be the time for the dream to fade away, for something else, something that someone like me, like us, could actually achieve. But again, it didn't. I have a huge file full of the information I need to know about scholarship applications. I'm studying German like my life hangs on the balance. I'm saving money to take two very expensive language tests. And... I feel really isolated and weird.
It's odd. People outside of my area of study are the ones who sometimes still support me. But none of my college friends. They say it's not worth it. It's too hard. Too few opportunities for people of our background. Too many steps for application. Too hard to move. Just stay. Do your Masters here.
It's the biggest step I've decided to take yet. It's a major, major change for my life and career. But suddenly, I feel hopelessly lonely in it. Where are all those children who also gave crazy answers when people asked them what they wanted to be? What happened to their dreams? Why did they all stop? And why didn't I? Why am I alone? Am I being naïve? Am I crazy? Are they right? Is this out of my league? Am I just a little girl who still knows nothing about life?
My eyes always travelled so much further than my feet could ever hope to go. But this used to be a good thing. Children are supposed to dream. They are supposed to look at the stars. Adults are not. They are supposed to know their place. They are supposed to stay in their league.
I'm too stubborn to give it up without trying. But sometimes, I really feel like there's something wrong with me. I try to be as realistic as I can. I'm very, very conservative with money, and I only make plans considering what I actually have. I consider all the worst case scenarios. I have B plans and C plans. I prepare myself way in advance. But still... when I talk to people, it feels like they consider the very act of dreaming and actually trying something of this caliber to be too much. I just want to believe it's possible. I love my field, but I know my country isn't supportive of it at all. I want to believe I can go somewhere where my work will be of value. I don't want to just settle for the less-than-minimum-wage payment I will get if I do my Masters here.
I feel like I'm going crazy sometimes. Why am I like this? Why didn't I give up? Why don't I want to settle, when everyone around me seems happy to do it?
I started writing about my application process here exactly because there are few people whom I can talk to about it in real life. I sometimes just don't know what to do with myself.

Yesterday marks coming up to the finishing line after almost four years of work. Assumeutxo was merged into the Bitcoin Core master branch by Andrew Chow yesterday. This is the first major non-consensus update to the Bitcoin reference implementation in quite a while, and is going to have a lot of interesting implications for users bootstrapping nodes. To give a little context about the feature, I think it'll be useful to give a little history lesson. When a Bitcoin Core node first turns on and starts syncing the blockchain it doesn't actually validate the entire historical chain. It can, but it doesn't by default, the reason being to save time and resources when bootstrapping. It validates the entire set of blockchain headers to make sure the proof-of-work is valid, but it doesn't actually validate the signatures or other witness data for really old blocks. The logic is that for really old blocks, say five years old, it's overkill to actually verify and run through the signature and other witness checks for those blocks. If someone was able to mine an invalid block five years ago spending coins without a valid signature, then Bitcoin is essentially broken. Bitcoin Core used to skip validation on these old blocks with a hardcoded checkpoint, i.e. developers would literally just include the blockhash for a known valid block in the past directly into the validation code and Core would not check witness data for anything before that. It was a very hacky solution, and it was not possible for users to change this behavior without actually modifying the source code to the client themselves. In 2017 Greg Maxwell introduced the assumevalid function to deal with these issues. Instead of a hardcoded value in the source code, assumevalid was a setting that could be modified on startup where users could manually pass a blockhash themselves and decide which block to start validating witness data at. Core still hardcodes a default block for this feature, but the key difference is now users can easily override that without modifying sourcecode. Simply run "bitcoind –assumevalid=[theblockhash] and users can decide themselves what to validate or not. You can run it with assumevalid=0 to validate every single block since Genesis. Assumeutxo brings a very similar functionality to handling the UTXO set. Everything your node does to verify the historical blockchain is done with the sole purpose of building the UTXO set. You can't really know if a transaction is valid unless you know if the coin has been spent before, and the UTXO set is the cache a node builds up to keep track of all the coins that haven't been spent. Users have put together many hacky tools in the last few years to simply skip ahead and start from a known good UTXO set from some point in time, most notably BTCPay Server. These are all very ugly hacks though that essentially boil down to copy and pasting the file directory holding the UTXO set. Now that functionality will be supported in Bitcoin Core proper. The implementation James O'Beirne put together has implemented all the logic for importing and starting to use a UTXO snapshot, as well as tools to create one in the first place. Very much like assumevalid, assumeutxo will simply accept an existing snapshot file as an argument and load that into the user's node and start running from there. This will add a massive amount of flexibility to node operators, both on the end user side as well as businesses. Users can create a snapshot of their current UTXO set and store that somewhere; if their node ever crashes or any of the databases corrupt, they can simply grab that UTXO snapshot and restart their node from that blockheight instead of having to restart from the Genesis block. Users who have trusted relationships with each other can simply help one another start up a node from where things are now. No more blockchain syncing necessary at all. If you trust me, I can give you the current UTXO set from my node, and within a margin of a few hours worth of blocks you can have a node up and running in no time.
Businesses who have to run multiple nodes for different reasons can spin them up much quicker and easier from UTXO snapshots. Now, this isn't quite ready to go live in the next Bitcoin Core release, but as James put it on Twitter the hurdle to cross to get to that point is literally five lines of code. All of the core logic and implementation is merged, all that needs to be done is change some flags so that Core will allow users to make use of assumeutxo when running their node on mainnet. So, congratulations to James on the merge. Many Bitcoiners are looking forward to having more flexibility and control over their own node.

3:04am. I'm laying here trying to sleep but my brain won't shut off. Didn't take melatonin tonight so my body is probably struggling to put itself to sleep without help.
Had a moment where I did not feel safe. Small panic attack, I was feeling very distressed, like I was in danger. It was very reminiscent of the feeling I associated with laying in bed in one of mom's old apartments late at night, Scooby Doo playing on the tv, and all of a sudden the room got really bright as a truck pulled up and parked, it's headlights shining right through the window. I felt very unsafe then, and I felt that way tonight.
Going home tomorrow. Or today, I guess. Haven't been home since my sister, brother in law, niece, two nephews, and their dog moved out of my dad's house. I have to go fill out a thing so my dad can file my taxes, Dylan needs to get his new car tags from his parents, and I want to go see my sister's new house.
My mind has been coming back to how much things have changed a lot recently. Thinking about how I used to see my family almost every day, now I'm lucky if I see them more than once a month. I used to work cleaning the gym back at home, now I'm a part-time manager of a sub-division of my department, part-time drag queen who has almost completed their bachelors in Psychology. So many people I used to know are like strangers to me, and I've met so many amazing new people. Like Osvaldo.
Ozzy is very important in my life right now. He helps to distinguish the relationships the "old me" formed from the relationships the "new me" has formed. He's quickly become one of my best friends. We talk about everything, hang out a lot, and poke fun at each other all the time. He reminds me that I do bring something to the table that gives me value enough to keep around. He's my favorite person that I've met since I started college. He helps me retain my childhood through interests we share, while also helping me to grow up. We smoked weed together recently, and it was my first time smoking real weed before. I got to do it with him and it was a real bonding moment.
In case you haven't noticed, if anyone's reading this, I kinda just let my mind wander and say what it wants to.
I need to talk about the future, because I'm scared of it and I need to rationalize it. Starting with school. I have less than three semesters of college left, and I have hardly a clue what I want to do after that. I've played with the idea of grad school, getting my masters so I don't have to have a space between. If I can get all of my school business out of the way, that'd be ideal. But what about a job? I don't know what I want to do or how I'm going to do it, which is horrifying. And I'm running out of time. Dylan's going through a similar thought process at the moment.
It feels like Dylan and I are in a weird space right now. Our relationship feels "gray," and that's the best way I can describe it. I love him, I know that I do, but I think I'm getting bored. I love him to death, and I don't want to lose him, but I feel constrained. I never had a real dating phase of my life. Yeah, relationships would come and go, but before Dylan I had never been in a relationship for more than a month. Now we've just passed two years and I'm so happy for that. But, in all honesty, a small part of me feels kinda robbed of the experience of dating in college, figuring things out, adventuring. He's my only sexual partner I've ever had, so I don't know if the sex we're having is good or if there's something I'm missing. I pined for him the first four years I knew him, so it's essentially like we've been dating for six years. And maybe it's supposed to feel this way, but it feels like we've hit a slump. Nothing really interesting is going on. Idk, I'm not sure if I'm experiencing a normal part of relationships or what, but I know for certain that I don't want Dylan to go anywhere.
I feel an intense feeling inside that something tragic is going to happen to me. I have had this feeling for a long time. Part of me believes I'm going to get cancer. Another part of me sees a potential future where I die relatively soon, like in the next few years. Yes, I know that's possible for everyone, but something in my head says that it'll definitely happen to me. I've thought about it so much that I now feel a combination of fear and calmness about it. Not like I've accepted my fate, but it has motivated me to live my life purposefully and not get too wrapped up in silly things that don't matter. I've made it a goal to have fun, enjoy my time on earth while I have it, and live one day at a time. But there's still that feeling...
I don't know why but I feel overdue for tragedy. Every couple months or so, something devastating happens to throw a wrench in the works. Back in November, we had to put down my childhood dog, Jet. We had him since I was five (15 years) and it was like losing my best friend. But that was four months ago, so it feels like something new and awful could happen at any moment. Not that I want it to, of course, but if we're following the trend of my life, something new should've happened by now to ruin my life.
Anyways, I feel like I've talked my brain down to potentially get some sleep. I hope so, because I have a lot of driving ahead of me tomorrow.
Thank you for reading this, whoever you are. If you're me from the future, I hope you're well. I hope the bad things I expect to happen have the grace to hold off, for your sake (and mine). If you aren't me, I wonder how you found this. I don't plan to disclose the existence of these posts to anyone until the absolute last possible moment so there's something to look back on and peek into my conscience throughout my life. So if you aren't me and you're reading this, did something happen to me? And if you're someone who knows/knew and loves/loved me, thank you. The people who I value most in my life are the source of my vitality and drive. If I was alone, I probably would've ended it a long long time ago. But hopefully I leave a good impact on the people in my life for the rest of the time I have. I'm getting caught up in my head again.
I'm tired as fuck, I hope it isn't hard to fall asleep. Goodnight.

Congratulations on a 100! Can I request a female reader and a scenario where Kakashi discovers in a very shocking way that his s/o is pregnant? Please don't mind not writing if it bothers you. Stay hydrated and have a nice day regardless!🌸
thank you for the request!! hope you enjoy!!

“I do hate to do this to you, but you’re the best choice. There’s not an Inuzuka available who has the security clearance necessary, which makes you the only ninken-user I can assign this to.”
Kakashi nodded and shrugged, brushing off the unspoken apology. “I understand, it’s no issue.”
Tsunade pursed her lips into a thin line, nodding solemnly. “If it wasn’t so time-sensitive, I’d put someone else on it, I swear.” She tucked a loose strand of her silvery blond hair behind her ear and shuffled the papers on her desk, bringing a personnel file to the top. “And to accompany you… Again, I’m really sorry, but she’s the only one who makes sense. She was in the area most recently out of all available jonin and her weapons expertise makes her the best candidate to accompany you.”
His eyebrows dipped together in mild confusion. He would have requested this partner if she hadn’t been assigned—he agreed fully that they would make the best team for this recovery mission. Shaking it off, he nodded again. “Sounds great, Lady Fifth. Anything else?”
Tsunade let out a breath she had been half holding and leaned back in her chair. Tonton gave a relieved squeak and Shizune pulled her closer to her chest. The Hokage dragged her hands across her eyes, then leaned forward on her elbows.
“Glad you’re taking this so well. I thought you’d at least argue about your fiancé going with you, if not objecting to being sent on a mission right now at all.”
Kakashi jerked his head backwards and to the side, scanning over the Sannin with his single vibrant, gray eye. “I’m sorry if I gave you the impression I like to argue with superiors, Tsunade-sama. That’s really more Naruto’s thing.” She snorted, and he took it as a good sign. “When would you like us to head out? Thirty minutes?”
Immediately, Tsunade shot him down. “She needs a medic to look her over before she can go into the field. I’m happy to do it myself. Her training with her team ends at noon, right?” She glanced at the clock, then gestured to Shizune. “Send Kotetsu or Izumo to pull her, we can’t wait that long.” With a quick nod, she ducked out of the room. “Meanwhile, you can go pack bags for you both. Be sure to grab her med pack, I’ll probably need to give her a bonus prescription or two for the journey.”
At this point, Kakahi’s confusion could no longer be dismissed. Why would his fiancé need extra medication for a mission? He had just seen you when you left to meet your team of genin, and you hadn’t mentioned anything. Maybe the stomach bug you had had a few weeks ago had been worse than you let on?
“Sorry, prescriptions? Are we facing potential poisoning?” He tried, looking for an explanation.
Tsunade shook her head firmly. “Anything is possible, but I’m not concerned about it.” She ran her hand backward through her hair, shaking it gently toward the ends and letting it fall out of the way. “More concerned with making sure she’s getting the correct nutrients. I’ve been working on the nutritional value of shinobi rations, but it’s hard to find something that’s shelf stable, lightweight, and compact without just being food pills.”
Kakashi agreed, a debate he had heard on nearly every long term mission. “So you’ll give us both supplements, fair. Should we do my physical now while we wait on my fiancé to arrive?” He relished the words in his mouth, the phrase “my fiancé” almost a dream to him, even still.
She gave a bemused chuckle, glancing the scarecrow of a man up and down. “Why, you have some kind of boo-boo you need me to kiss?” Tsunade returned to the paperwork on her desk, shuffling it again and pulling the shinobi copy of the mission details file out, holding it out to him. “I trust you to get whatever nutrients you need after all these years of life, Bakashi,” she teased.
He didn’t move to take the file. “What’s going on?” he demanded, as respectfully as absolutely necessary. “What’s going on that she needs a medical check and extra medication to travel on a mission? Why did you think I would object to being paired with her? It’s not our first mission together, not even since we got engaged. What am I forgetting?”
Tsunade didn’t react to his interrogation, continuing to organize paperwork and leaning down to pull open a drawer in her desk, sliding his and your personnel files inside. “The fetus, maybe?” She offered, waving a hand like it was obvious.
The what?
For a moment, Tsunade could almost hear the cogs grinding in the shinobi’s head. You passing him every drink that had been pushed on you in the last few weeks, the stomach bug that he had never caught, and the uptick in morning meetings you had.
Then the cogs were brought to a halt, and the whole world froze. The blood running through his body was ice cold, and he felt his fingertips and forehead tingling. Were you really pregnant?
Was he, Kami forbid, going to be a father?
Tsunade swore, knowing she shouldn’t have said anything violating medical confidentiality, but with the pregnancy already being in the second trimester, she had no idea that you hadn’t told Kakashi yet. “Listen, Kakashi… just sit down, okay?” She looked around, swearing again at the reminder that this damn office had no chairs outside of the one she occupied.
She jumped up, crossing over to Kakashi and pushing him forward into the chair behind the desk. “Breathe, Kakashi, come on.” She shook him gently, then lightly slapped his cheek. “Come on, soldier. You’re Kakashi of the Sharingan, master of a thousand jutsu, pull it together.”
He flatly refused.
The door to the Hokage’s office opened, Shizune and Tonton leading you in. You took a moment to take in the scene of your fiancé hyperventilating behind the desk, the Hokage herself swearing and trying to get him to make eye contact and pull air into his lungs. Then he saw you, and he paused, fear in his eyes.
“Is it true—I mean, are you—love, are you pregnant?” He choked out.
Your hand flew to your mouth as if to put the secret back inside. You knew you’d have to tell him eventually, but you had wanted the moment to be right and he had been so busy with his missions lately. He didn’t know it yet, but you had rented a room at a nearby onsen for next weekend, making sure to get a room with a private bath and windows high enough that no onlookers could see inside so that he could comfortably remove his mask. That would’ve been the way you preferred he find out, when rather than dessert, you slid the sonogram across the table after dinner. Instead, you nodded.
“Yes, my love,” you whispered. “I’m pregnant.” Instinctively, your hand rested over the part of your stomach that had begun showing this last week.
He seemed to melt into chair. “Kami… we’re going to be parents?”
You nodded, a small laugh breaking from your chest. “Yes, Kakashi, that’s the plan.”
Slowly, he gathered himself, standing up and delicately walking around the desk to the doorway where you remained. “I… You want this?” He sniffed hard, blinking twice and taking your hands. “You want to raise a child with me? This child?”
You tilted your head to the side, feeling hot tears sting your eyes. You knew he had issues with his self worth, and that would be something you would focus on for the next few months so he’d be ready for your child.
“Of course, ‘Kashi. There’s no one I trust more, no one I think would make a better father. I can’t imagine doing this with anyone else, and I’m thrilled that I get to do it with you.”
His wiry frame jolted as though he’d been shocked, and the threw himself into your arms, allowing his fears and shock to leave him through tears. Tsunade and Shizune averted their eyes, doing what they could to preserve your privacy. Tonton oinked in solidarity. After a couple of moments, he stood again, wiping dry the parts of his face not covered by salty, wet fabric. He then hooked a finger into the mask at the side of his nose, yanked it down, and brought you into a deep kiss, warm hands wrapping around you and pulling you close.
After the surprise, you let yourself dissolve into him, allowing yourself to be swept into his emotional display. He pulled his face back after a few beats and beamed, smiling as widely as you could remember seeing him grin. Then his mouth was back on yours, this time for just a second, then a firm kiss to your forehead before he secured the mask again. Turning to face the Hokage, he wrapped his arm around your back and held you close.
“Tsunade-sama, all due respect, can Pakkun handle this? I’ll send him with anyone you’d like. Naruto, even, I don’t think he’s doing anything tonight. I can send the whole pack. I can brief Gai, or Tenzo, anyone? And if you need a weapons expert, I’m sure Tenten is more than qualified.” You giggled, watching your fiancé ramble to the leader of the village. “It’s just, I’m going to be a father, and she’s pregnant with our child, and I’ve gotta say, I don’t think we’re going on any missions for the next, say, 18 years? Well, maybe some D ranks. We’ll see.”
As Tsunade opened her mouth, he cut her off with a pointed, “How’s the progress on the Konoha Orphanage coming along? They prepared for one more? Cause I’m not letting anything happen to either of us, for this child’s sake.”
Tsunade glared, but was startled out of the shouting match she was gearing up for by Shizune chuckling. Betrayed, she turned to her companion.
“I mean, this is the reaction you anticipated him having, Lady Fifth,” she giggled.
She slammed a fist on the desk, although with an intense amount of restraint given that the surface was not even dented. Finally, she looked up with a glint in her eye.
“I think Hana Inuzuka gets back this evening. I can give her twelve hours to rest and then she and Tenten, along with Gai, can probably handle it. This time.”
Kakashi was already on his way out the door, pulling you behind him in a firmly clasped hand, before she had finished. He called out a thanks over your shoulder as you left. Together, you giggled as you entered the streets of Konoha.
Your fiancé spun in circles, laughing freely and spreading his arms out. “We’re starting a family!” he shouted to the sky. You knew you would both continue to take missions with this child, and that was a conversation for another time. For now, though, you were content to spend eternity watching the love of your life giddily relish in this moment.

Hi! I saw you were open for prompts/asks and stuff, and I was wondering if I could ask for more of your Coruscant Guard au? I absolutely love your writing and that au is just fantastic.
Thanks for the ask, I'm happy to write more, and glad you're enjoying.
———
Despite the advice to rest, the next morning Fox was up in full armour and ready to go. There were things to do and he was going to make sure they got done.
First rule of the Guard, vode protect each other. He wasn’t going to stop now. Not when there was so much to do, not when Palpatine was still a threat. The chips were gone, but they hadn’t been the only way that monster had been in their minds, like oil through cracks seeping in and staining. It was one of the things they only spoke of at night, in the pitch black with the lights off, and often when Hound, their youngest, was fast asleep. They’d always hoped Hound’s never bringing it up and tendency to be far away from the main Senate building would be enough to keep him safe…
With that looming threat in mind, he spared one last look at Hound’ika, still unwaking, almost peaceful in his rest, the rest he hadn’t been allowed in years, and then at Thire, who’d swapped out with Pup at some point while he’d been sleeping. Thire smiled, and turned back to their vod’ika, petting Grizzer curled on Hounds feet.
Hound would be ok, he’d wake up and he’d be fine. It just might take some time.
He stepped out of the Healing Halls, and couldn’t help but start for a second. He’d never been in the Jedi Temple before, but it was beautiful. This was an entrance hall to a medical wing, and yet the walls had columns and intricate carvings and paintings. Like the art and architecture in Lintel’s book.
"Commander Fox?"
It was one of Cody's boys, though he had no idea which.
"Are you alright, vod'ika?"
"Uh... Yes sir, I'm fine. I... I just wasn't expecting to see you so soon."
"See me?"
"The commander asked me to wait, said you'd try to escape and that when you did I should take you too him. Sir."
He almost laughed, Cody had given up trying to keep him in bed and was asking for him so he could keep an eye on him, and they called Fox sly.
He stared in more wonder than was professional as the vod who finally introduced himself as Wooley led him through the Temple to the Council antechamber, where Cody was pacing. Wooley made a quiet retreat, and Cody broke his paces to stride forwards, stopping half a step short of hugging him, and placing a hand on his shoulder. There was something in his eye that almost made Fox shy back. Cody didn't know where they stood, Fox hated that he wasn't sure either.
"Fox, are you sure you should be up and working, you can take more time."
“Vod the Guard hasn’t had a seconds rest in three years, we can go a little longer. The galaxy won’t end. I'm going to protect my brothers, all of them, no matter the cost.”
Cody looked almost grieved at that, and he was almost glad one of the Generals made their entrance, breaking the moment. He wasn't ready for that conversation, not that this one was likely to be much easier. Ponds stuck to his General’s side, and for a second looked like he was going to say something, before looking away.
Vode an, ha, he wouldn't even look Fox in the eyes.
"Commander Fox, we're glad to see you awake."
"Thank you, General."
"The war is over, commander, and we're going to do everything we can to keep it that way, so you don't have to call me General."
"...understood Gen... Master Windu."
"We would also like to thank you and your vode in the Guard for the service you've done for the Galaxy. And apologise, that we did not realise the true threat Palpatine presented, to the galaxy and to you."
"Sir," he paused, almost looking to his brothers for strength, then steeling his shoulders, "you could not have known. He was a Sith of a line who specialised in hiding from the Jedi, he bragged about it Sir, how could a Jedi have found him. We only did because he did not think we were capable of... anything damaging... because he didn't really care to hide it. Not from us."
"That does not change that you and your brothers were manipulated and abused, and that it should not have happened. If not Palpatine, the other Senators."
"The ones who treat you the same way, Sir, who don't see you as any more sentient than us, who saw you as tools for their use, the same as us. They drafted you, something you could not refuse. If you had, you’d have been imprisoned and then vanished by his hand. It was a trap for your people, one designed perfectly to work without your knowing. Sir, none of us blame you. We may not trust you yet, and some of my vode will likely fear you, but we cannot blame you."
"I understand, and I hope with time, we can rectify these oversights. It is not the Jedi way to be feared, nor to ignore suffering. We have failed you, and while that may not have been our intention, we will make up for our oversights."
"Thank you, sir. And thank you, all, for protecting my vode in the wider GAR as best you could. We are grateful they had people who valued their lives watching their backs."
"Your vode mean a lot to us, it was our honour to fight with them."
"Sir," deep breath Fox, you can do this, "Palpatine is still a threat, I would like to offer my assistance."
"Your offer is appreciated, Commander, but the situation is hardly safe, and Palpaine has done enough to you and your vode in the Guard already."
"General Windu, you need proof, because for some Hound's work was not enough. I know that bastard’s files better than anyone, the things I've seen, I want to help. I want to make sure none of them can ever go anywhere near my vode again, and especially not him. Not near our bodies or our minds."
Even focused on Windu, he could feel Ponds and Cody flinching away from what he was saying, away from the truth. It didn't matter, he had to focus on what was important. He could deal with his vode's guilt later, right now he had siblings to save.
Rule one of the Guard, vode protect each other.
Palpatine wouldn't be a threat for long, not if there was anything he could do.
———
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed. This AU is fun to write and play with.
I'm always open for asks and headcanons and whatnot, dark and sad or lighthearted and silly.

Interview
Fandom: Criminal Minds Pairing: Aaron Hotchner/Latina OFC Sophie Cortes Word Count: 1,729 Tags: SFW, Pre-relationship, First meetings Summary: Aaron finally gets the greenlight to hire a new agent. Collection: Sophie Cortes timeline, 0-6 Months at the BAU (See Masterlist for reading order) A/N: Sophie and Reid are partners, because I love them! Link to AO3 or read below!
It takes two months for Hotch to convince Section Chief Strauss to open a requisition for a new member in the BAU. There was a lot of paperwork to be filled out, including detailed explanations as to why he felt the team needed another profiler. He thought it was obvious: for all they do work together as a cohesive unit, Morgan and Elle were technically partners, and when she left, Prentiss took her place. Reid doesn’t have a partner, which makes him feel like a third wheel, sometimes.
(He won’t admit to it, but Hotch notices things. It’s kind of his job.)
Needless to say, the position becomes available, but it takes another couple of months—and several interviews—for Hotch to find the right person to fill it.
Agent Cortes comes highly recommended by the Intelligence Section’s unit chief, someone he worked on a case with in his early days at the BAU; she is young, just 29, but she is more than qualified, and the referring agent is someone whose opinion he respects, so he’s hopeful.
Gideon sits in on the interview because he respects his opinion, too, although Hotch will make the final decision.
Cortes is Latina, petite and polite, with a firm handshake, a warm smile, and dark, striking eyes. Gideon looks at her with somewhat passive interest (something only Gideon can pull off) as they go over the highlights of her resume.
“You have bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Sociology, and master’s degrees in Behavioral Science and Criminology, all from the University of Chicago. How did you manage all of that, at your age?” Hotch asks, wondering if maybe she is gifted like Reid.
“A lot of hard work,” she replies, and it’s an answer he likes. “I graduated high school, enrolled in a dual major program and completed the bachelors’ at 22. Then I was hired onto the Chicago Police Department, and I worked there and got my Criminology degree at the same time. The Behavioral Science degree came after; I began it in person, and they let me finish online when I moved here to join the FBI.”
“What interested you about behavioral science?”
“I grew up in a city that was rich with diversity, but I still noticed that certain people were susceptible to falling into certain patterns, and became curious about why we as people do the things we do. I was already interested in criminal justice, so it seemed a natural path to take.” He nods, jots down a couple of notes before looking back up.
“Tell us about your time with the Chicago Police Department.”
“I went through training while finishing my Criminology degree, worked a beat for about six months before being assigned to the Intelligence Unit; my sergeant found value in the way I was able to get people talking, and a large part of my work was with criminal informants. I worked in Intelligence for three and a half years, and for the last two I was on the Tactical Response Team as well.”
“Tactical Response—that’s SWAT?”
“Yes, sir.”
“How did you end up in SWAT?” Gideon asks, speaking up for the first time; she looks over at him for the first time, as well. “I mean no offense, you’re clearly more than capable, you’re just… small.” She gives him a brief smile.
“Well, there was a hostage situation, the team leader determined that we could get a vantage point from an air duct... and I was the only one who fit.”
“You don’t seem resentful of that,” Hotch notices, a bit surprised. It’s not an origin sorry everyone would be proud of. Her eyes turn back to him.
“I find it’s more important what you do with your time somewhere than how you got there. I contributed to many successful responses over the course of two years that had nothing to do with my size.” It is a great answer, and he holds back a smile of his own, simply nods.
“So you left Chicago to join the bureau; did you have your sights set on any department in particular?”
“I was torn between Language Analysis and Intelligence and ended up somewhere in the middle.”
“Intelligence because of your background, why Language Analysis?” Gideon asks.
“I speak 6: English, Spanish, and Italian as my native languages, plus Russian, French, and German. I have an ear for them.”
“Impressive,” Gideon says, nodding, lips pressed together. Cortes smiles, modest.
“It’s helpful; more than 30% of the population of Chicago speaks a language other than English at home.” Hotch does crack a smile at that, because the statistic reminds him of Reid.
“How would you describe your current role with Intelligence?”
“The official title is Intelligence Liaison. I’m part of a team that travels domestically and internationally, to law enforcement or government agencies, to debrief them on threats we’ve identified, or potential threat activity, and to help them formulate offensive countermeasures.” There is a lot of experience there that would translate well to the BAU, that much is clear. If anything, she may be overqualified, but they would never turn down the help.
“What’s the most frustrating part of your job?” It’s a question he always throws in, because true frustrations—and how one handles them—can say a lot about a person.
“When they don’t listen and people die. I do my best to make sure it doesn’t happen often.” He looks up from the form to the woman, who, in that moment, shows the things she’s seen all over her face. They’re gone from one blink to the next, and he breaks eye contact to choose his next question. No follow up needed there.
“It sounds like you have experience interacting with law enforcement, which is important here at the BAU. We can’t work on a case unless we are invited by the agency with jurisdiction, so maintaining healthy relationships is vital. We have a communications liaison who deals directly with police departments, sheriff’s stations, FBI field offices, and the media, but knowing how to handle them is a big part of the job.” It’s not a question as much as a confirmation, and she nods.
“I’m confident in my ability to interact with other law enforcement in a direct but respectful way. It’s something I’ve done a lot of as Intelligence Liaison.” He has one final question, and though he’s already more than pleased with the interview, the answer will make or break his decision.
“Why the BAU?”
“Curiosity is what got me interested in behavioral science, but it’s empathy that makes me interested in the BAU. My current work helps to save lives, but it’s all very large scale, and it can be detached, cold. I can be detached and impartial when I need to be, but I can’t deny it would feel like a better use of my skill set to make a more tangible difference.” He agrees, can already tell that she would thrive in the environment of their unit, and it’s just the kind of answer he’s looking for; he takes a few more notes, glances over at Gideon for input.
“Anything else you’d like to ask?”
“I think we’ve covered it,” he says, and he stands abruptly, which makes Agent Cortes stand as well. Hotch follows suit. “Nice to meet you. He’ll be in touch,” Gideon adds, shaking her hand briefly and leaving the room. She is left looking a little lost, and Hotch steps around the desk.
“I apologize for him, he’s a little…”
“Capricious?” she offers with a smile, and he laughs lightly.
“That’s accurate, actually. Please don’t take it personally.”
“I won’t. I’ve heard a lot about him, so he kind of lives up to my expectations.” She tilts her head, looking curious. “You don’t, though. Unit Chief Roberts told me you would be stoic; I expected someone much more aloof, but you’re actually rather warm.” He is a bit surprised by her directness, even more so that she would find him... warm.
“I doubt that my colleagues would agree with your assessment,” he says, thinking of the number of less than kind words used to describe him in the past. She just smiles again.
“I guess you really do need me on your team, then.”
He finds it hard not to agree.
“There are a few more things we’ll need from you, such as a psychological evaluation, recent performance reviews, a physical. I’ll be in touch with Agent Roberts, and then you, if we determine you are the right fit. I’ll see you out,” he adds, gesturing to the door, and she follows. The team, who was not yet in the bullpen when she arrived, looks on, curious, as they head to the glass double doors.
“Thank you for the opportunity to interview. I hope to hear from you soon,” she says with another firm handshake, and he nods.
“We’ll be in touch. It’s a pleasure to have made your acquaintance.”
“Likewise, Agent Hotchner.” She gets onto the elevator, and he heads back to the bullpen, stops specifically at Reid’s desk, though everyone is nearby.
“Congratulations, Reid: you’ve officially got a partner.” Reid smiles, looking pleased.
“Who is she?”
“Special Agent Sophia Cortes. She currently works for Intelligence. Bachelors’ in Psychology and Sociology, Masters’ in Criminology and Behavioral Sciences. Fluent in six languages. Got her start at Chicago PD like you, Morgan—Intelligence there too. And SWAT.”
“SWAT?” Morgan echoes, impressed. “She’s gotta be 5’2” out of those heels.”
“She’s got glowing reviews from her superiors there, and from her unit chief: he called her resilient, determined, empathetic, a team player. She’s good at communicating with law enforcement, victims, even unsubs. The BAU is the right place for her. We’ll just be waiting on paperwork to make it official.” He crosses his arms, leans back against the filing cabinet. “I’d have introduced you, but she doesn’t know she’s being offered the job just yet.”
“She must have made quite an impression on you for you to decide on the spot,” Prentiss says, and he nods his head in agreement.
“I think she’ll fit in well. I saw a little bit of each of you in her, and she’s very…” He tries to think of one word to sum up the woman he just interviewed, and decides with a half-smile: “warm.”

[SDR2 Girls] x selectively mute reader - imagines
Request: SDR2 Girls reacting to hearing a selectively mute S/O speak for the first time, please!!
Sure thing! Also, so that more people can relate and read this with themselves in mind, if you want to, you can read this as an s/o who simply doesn’t talk often due to shyness, idk. I wrote it with selectively mute in mind like the request says though. Also, some of these take place in SDR2, some in DR3 the anime, in Hope’s Peak Academy. - Admin Kokichi
Warnings: selectively mute reader, implied past trauma, self-hate and doubt, insecurities, mild and not in detail, always resolved with fluff.
Mahiru Koizumi
“(S/O), what do you think of these ones?” Your loving, strong-willed girlfriend, Mahiru Koizumi splayed out a bunch of photos before you, carefully ordering them in a particular way and looking to you with an almost nervous anticipation in her eyes that was uncharacteristic of her. She stood behind you, looking over your shoulder anxiously. She valued your opinion highly, above most of the artists and creative minds she’d become acquainted with in her years of expert-level photography.
Your eyes scanned the pictures thoughtfully, appreciating every inch, every focal point, every hidden meaning. You took in the composition, the symbolism, the saturation. Your girlfriend was so passionate, so gifted, and far too hard on herself. Slowly, your brows raised. She took this expression immediately to mean disapproval, and began to defend herself.
“I know, I know. I was trying to do a series here. It was a new concept I’m trying... a bit too bold I think for now. I should stick to just quality headshots for the time being, that was my last concept. Following the first photo, the rest were suppose to connect and flow like a story but I understand if it’s not coming through-” you interrupted her speedy string of words, the shield she put around herself and her work.
“This is the best one yet!” Your mouth hung open, lost in the colors. Your eyes swam, bouncing from polaroid to polaroid.
“No, be honest because like-” Her eyes widened. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “(S-S/O)???” She spun you around to face her, tears at the corners of her eyes. She pulled you into her chest, nearly squeezing the life out of you. All doubts about her work went out the window. If it was good enough to make you speak, it was good enough for her.
She left little pecks all over your cheeks, and insisted of taking a photo to remember this moment.
Tumblr media
Peko Pekoyama
Being rather quiet and reserved herself, Peko didn’t mind your timid nature. She knew of trauma, seeing much of it growing up in the yakuza way of life. She had trauma of her own, and had caused others great trauma in the line of duty, protecting her Young Master. Once she’d started dating you officially, she’d become your sword and your shield, quite literally as well as emotionally. She didn’t need words. She knew how you felt, when to back off, when you needed comfort. Being intuitive, preceptive, strong-willed and incredibly intelligent made her your perfect defender, your rock.
She was used to you pointing, signing, even drawing out your feelings at times, and didn’t need to know what your voice sounded like to love you, but when you spoke up, breaking your silence, for her sake nonetheless, she held back tears, eyes glistening.
“Peko, I worry that you’re not happy sometimes… the Kuzuryuu’s overwork you. I want you to be happy.” You’d been sitting across from her in the dining hall, just the two of you all alone, Fuyuhiko having ordered her to fuck off for the day. Your voice was small, gentle, barely existent, but it was there. Her intense, scarlet eyes flew up to your mouth, sure her mind was playing tricks on her. She could tell from your posture and expression the past hour that you’d had something on your mind. Something was bothering you, but surely that hadn’t prompted actually speech?
“(S/O)... did you just speak to to me?” Peko spoke concisely, purposefully like always. You nodded nervously. Maybe you’d overstepped by bringing up her line of work or the Kuzuryuu clan. It wasn’t your place. She’d been doing that far longer than you’d been with her.
At your reply, the swords-woman merely closed her eyes pensively, almost appearing to be in a state of meditation. A small, barely noticeable smile tugged at the corners of her lips. She was elated, ecstatic that you’d chosen to speak for her, that you loved and trusted her this much, but she wasn’t one to make a big scene of things.
“I appreciate your concern for me, but no matter how hard I work, being with you makes me happy, preforming my duties make me happy. I’m sorry if I ever gave you reason to doubt either of those facts.” Her steady, confident hand reached out and stroked your back lovingly. You smiled, leaning into her touch.
Tumblr media
Ibuki Mioda
Ibuki talked enough for the both of you. You found comfort in the way she could endlessly hold a conversation where you could not. She made friends with ease and people loved her. Sometimes you feared that you held her back, that your quiet personality and baggage from your past was a grey stain on her neon spirit.
Despite your doubts, Ibuki never hesitated to show her love for you. She held your hand all the time, regardless of if you needed that physical comfort at the moment. She carried the conversations, easily rolling with your signing, gesturing, and nods. She never forced you, never pushed your barriers, taking you completely as you are. You’d seen her bite people, scream, pull people away into her manic fantasies and crazy ideas, but with you she was a bit more patient, reserved.
“Ibuki... w-why do you go easy on me? You’re so wild and free with e-everyone else... I hope I’m not holding y-you back,” you stuttered, fighting back tears. You weren’t really in the mood to talk, but this question had been burning in the back of your mind for too long. Ibuki’s fiery eyes widened. Her hands flew to her cheeks in a state of amazement and awe. You smiled sheepishly at her, completely in love with how passionate and alive she was at all times.
“Whaaaa?! (S/O)!!! Your voice is like, totally adorable!!! Ibuki love-love’s it!” She ran over to you and wrapped her arms snuggly around your waist before jumping up and down in place, ignoring your actual question completely.
     That was your Ibuki.
     “But-”
“You think Ibuki goes easy on you!?!?! Perish the thought, oh lovey dovey lover of mine! If this is going too easy on you, I can go harder!!!!” She pulled away, shredding an air guitar in front of you with her teeth gritted in false exertion. You could tell she was purposely ignoring your second comment, the one about you holding her back. Ibuki didn’t like to focus on the negative, and her not answering your silly, nonsense question was her was of saying it was in fact a silly, nonsense question. She loved you, and she wanted to be with you.
No if, and’s, or but’s about it.
Tumblr media
Mikan Tsumiki
Mikan was rushing back and forth, cleaning up messes, doing paperwork, organizing her backpack. The nurse’s office would be a hell hole without her. Hope’s Peak wasn’t even paying her for her endless duties as the nurse’s assistant, which was an outrage in your mind already, but then she spent every day fretting over homework, her studies, her friends, her job, and your relationship with her. It was criminal, the stress life put on that girl.
Today was no different. Mikan had been to class, the to the nurse’s office to tend to ill students, then back to class, then lunch, and now here she was again, nearly in tears as she tidied up the actual nurse’s files in-between writing her own notes and research. She never let up on researching and perfecting her ultimate talent, and feared letting down anyone in her life, whether they deserved her attention or not.
You sat on a hospital bed behind your frantic girlfriend, watching her struggle with a lump in your throat. You technically weren’t allowed to just be here unless you were sick, but the nurse hardly ever did her job, so she would never find out. Mikan sat before you, her cheeks wet and a grimace seemingly permanently etched into her face. You couldn’t take it any more. You stood, walking over to her and grabbing the files and pen from her hand. She let out a small yelp of surprise, so entranced with her work that she didn’t even notice your approach. You placed the cursed objects down, and wrapped your arms around her tightly.
“Mikan, please. You need to slow down. You can’t keep working this hard.” Your voice shook, jittery as you buried your head into her shoulder. She jumped, startled by your actions.
“(S-S-S/O)! Y-you just spoke! You just spoke to m-me!” She froze, excited, anxiety-ridden, surprised, overwhelmed all at the same time. “Your voice is s-so cute! S-Sorry! Sorry if that’s weird to say!” Her bandaged hands reached up, grasping onto your forearms embracing her chest.
“It’s not weird, but did you hear me?” It was imperative to you that she understood, that she agreed to pace herself, to put herself first from now on. You couldn’t watch her stress herself into an early grave any longer. With her already existing tendency to trip and fall clumsily, she didn’t need this constant stress and exhaustion to cause even more accidents.
“Y-yes. Yes. I heard you. I’m sorry for not answering. I’m so s-stupid! I should’ve b-ben listening closer, eh!” She shook her head frantically, holding back tears. You only squeezed her tighter.
“You’re not stupid. I love you, Tsumiki.” She stiffened up, then began to sob loudly, snot and tears rolling down her face. These words were so new to her, so unfamiliar. She didn’t feel like she deserved your love, but yes, she loved you, too.
She loved you more than herself, more than work or school, more than nursing.
     More than life itself.
Tumblr media
Hiyoko Saionji
You loved Hiyoko, you really did, but she got on even your nerves at times. Your relationship with her started as one mutual respect, a kind of unspoken agreement that she would be little nicer to you than she was to others. She liked you, physically and mentally. She found you attractive in every way, and showed it the only way she could at first: by teasing, by bullying you, but you never responded, never gave her the satisfaction of a response. She liked that. Well, she hated it outwardly. It frustrated her to no end that she couldn’t get a rise out of you, but inside her admiration for you only grew with every exchange.
She started to treat you like a best friend, an older sibling like Mahiru, and loved that you could keep up with her, that you weren’t intimidated by her, or at least if you were, you didn’t show it. She eventually pushed her pride aside enough to ask you out, wanting to make you hers before anyone else could, and you accepted, but again, it didn’t mean she didn’t get on your nerves from time to time.
Today in particular, she was trying your patience. Everything you did, she complained about or belittled. She was teasing you, in some horrible mood today, demeaning everything move you made. You’d been spending the entire day together, and it was going a little something like this:
You went to the diner, she criticized your choice of food.
You went to the beach house, she made fun of the way you bonked your head off a surf board in the storage room.
You swam at the beach with some of your classmates, she pointed out the silly way your wet clothes clung to your body.
Now you were back in your cabin with her, just shooting the breeze and making small talk, when she waltzed out of your bathroom with something in her hands. Something of yours.
“What is this? I didn’t know you were this kind of pervert! Gross!” She cackled, holding up a pair of your underwear that were, let’s just say, maybe a more flashy and indulgent... not for daily or casual use. You’d discarded them just before your shower the night before, and forget that you’d simply left them on the bathroom tiles.
You felt your cheeks heat up as she feigned disgust, swinging the garments around while continuing to comment and mock you loudly. You fists began to shake, and your blood felt like it was boiling.
“Can’t you ever just give it a fucking break, you little troll?!” You marched forward, snatched the underwear from her hand, snarling inches from her face. A look of shock and horror crossed her face, and you both stood there, frozen for a few moments. Then, impishly, mischievously, her hand slipped up to cover her mouth, and she smirked devilishly.
“Well, well, it’s about time you showed some back bone. Put me in my place, pervert~!” She giggled maniacally, stroking your cheek with one hand. “That was kinda hot.” Your cheeks continued to heat up, but now it was more from a flustered feeling in the pit of your stomach rather than anger

Chiaki Nanami
You’d been dating Chiaki for a long while now. You guys went together like peanut butter and jelly. She was quiet, a bit lazy, low maintenance, and didn’t require you to speak endlessly... or ever really. She didn’t talk much herself, but she would when she needed to. You see, Chiaki could’ve been the ultimate empath, in her own right. She could feel for others, support them, comfort them, read their hearts, give the best advice. When it came to the things that really mattered, she was never one to slack off and be lazy. She was your perfect match.
What’s more, her main hobby and passion, gaming, often didn’t require any speech, any communication at all. You either watched her play, resting your head in her lap silently, or during co-op, the game either guided you with tutorials, or Chiaki herself did all of the talking, looking to you for nods of confirmation. You two spent hours upon days upon weeks like that, just enjoying one game after the next. She often even let you choose the game, loving all genres herself.
Today was the day: you were going to finally tell her how you feel. You were going to work up the courage and speak your heart. Of course, Chiaki knew you cared about her, and you knew she cared about you... but was it love? Did she really love you, or were you just comfortable, easy to deal with, her little outlet for social interaction? Were you just best friends, platonic soul-mates with the false label of a romantic relationship? Today you’d find out.
~
You and Chiaki sat in her dorm as usual, in the dark with only a screen lighting her face gently. A soft blue glow softened her adorable features, and you felt your heart flutter. God you loved her so much...
Scooting closer to her on the ground, you placed your head into her lap, heart beating at the speed of light.
“Chiaki?” You spoke quietly, gently, anxiously.
“Hmm?” she hummed in acknowledgement, her fingers never halting their rapid movements on the controller in her hands.
“I... I love you.” You inhaled sharply and held that breath, heart thrashing violently against your ribcage. You waited eagerly for a response that you both desperately needed and were terrified to hear.
Chiaki simply smiled warmly, the sounds of gunshots and a level-up in your ears as you waited. She didn’t make a big deal of your speaking. She knew it would come eventually, when you were ready and comfortable.
“I love you, too, (S/O).” She gently stroked your hair with one hand, reassuring and calming you, masterfully owning the battlefield with just one spare hand.

Sonia Nevermind
“I just don’t see why the others won’t try it out with me! You’d think even one of them would be interested!” You sat across from your regal lover, watching her throw her little tantrum in her unique and particular way of speaking. You loved the way she put accents on certain syllables, the way she messed up common lingo or phrases at times. It was so adorable. You couldn’t expect someone who knew dozens of languages to be perfectly fluent in all of them. “You know what I mean?” You nodded enthusiastically, lost dreamily in her eyes.
She stood, beginning to pace back and forth in the dining hall on the second floor of the restaurant, a clear nobility to her strut. It was clear in her tone that she was used to giving orders, to speaking with purpose so that others would listen with fervor.
“I mean, all I wanted was to try cosplaying, just once with everyone. Father never let me at home. He says it’s a silly past-time, and gets in the way of my royal duties!” She paused, fists in front of her chest in a gesture of exasperation. You nodded, eyes trailing up and down her milky skin. Wow, how did you get so lucky? “Hajime said he’d feel silly dressing up, Mahiru said she is busy, but I know she is not! Akane said it just wasn’t her thing. How does she even know unless she tries?!” You nodded, watching her chest rise and fall passionately. “I need at least five people to do this! It’s a group cosplay! Why don’t they understand? And Chiaki is nowhere to be found! She’d say yes, I know it!” She stuck one finger out matter-of-factly. Her eyes met yours, and she frowned slightly. “I’m sorry, I do not mean to sound ungrateful. It means a lot that you said you’d do it with me-”
“You are so beautiful when you’re all riled up...” You spoke, your head resting in your hand lazily. You felt in a daze, so enraptured were you with her aura, her energy. Her eyes widened a bit, before she rushed over to you, cooing and giggling like a fool. “S-Sonia!” Your princess, so strong and bold despite her demure and innocent appearance, scooped you out of your chair and into her arms, twirling you about in the air.
“Ahaha! My, my! I will have to get riled up more often if I get to hear your voice as a reward, my love!” She nuzzled her button nose against yours, setting your heart aflame.

Akane Owari
You sat in your room, crying, weeping softly into your blanket. Today had been a horrible day. Not only were you suffering the normal anxiety about being in this killing game, but you were already a naturally stressed person despite that, and today, your insecurities and self-doubt were at an all time high after a savage bullying session from Hiyoko. Your pillow was now soaked, and your body was shaking. Hiyoko really knew how to wound a person at their very core.
“(S/O)! Check this shit out! Teruteru-” Your lively, protective girlfriend, Akane, came bursting into your room, startling you half to death. She halted in her tracks upon seeing the tears streaking your face and the pink puffiness of your eyes. On her own face, numerous crumbs from various fried meats and sauces from what were no doubt extravagant dishes were displayed proudly, sticking to her chin and cheeks. In her hand was a silver platter of what was unmistakably the offending feast. “What’s wrong? Why are you crying? Who do I need to beat the shit outta?!” She set the platter on your bed, rushing to your side and hugging you to her ample bosom. You looked up at her, shaking your head softly and wiping some crumbs from her cheek. “Who is it?!”
She was starting to get frustrated. You shook your head again. Akane didn’t mean to get mad at you, and truly, she was more upset at the situation than at you. You knew that. Akane was simply a fire-brand: strong, short-tempered, loud and opinionated. You never took her outbursts seriously.
“So you’re just sad? It’s one of those days? Nothing happened?” You nodded. “Something did happen?” You nodded again. “Gahhhh this is so hard without you talkin’ and shit!” She threw her hands up in the air, fuming until she saw your lip start to tremble, a wetness glossing your eyes. She sighed, taking a deep breath to calm herself. “Look... you know I love ya, (S/O). I’m sorry for being a loud-mouth asshole. I’m not mad at you.” She squeezed you tight enough to break a bone, but then pulled you away, looking into your eyes deeply. “Who?” Now she was dead serious.
“Hiyoko...” You nearly whispered, but it was there. Your voice was there. Akane blinked once, twice, her head tilting slightly. Had she heard that right? She was looking for an answer, but she’d never actually prepared for one. Slowly, her shock, rounded out lips turned upward into a devious smirk. She stood, walking briskly toward the door. “Akane-!” You reached out after her. She spun on her heel, hands on her hips.
“I’m gonna go give that little shit a piece of my fist!” She turned to leave again, a shit-eating grin on her face. Pausing, she twisted around again to face you, pointing her finger toward you with gusto. “And when I come back, I’m gonna ravish you, babe! You better be ready!” And she sprinted out the door, leaving it wide open in her wake.
Your cheeks had never been so warm.

“Chicago or New York, a stakeout is stakeout,” you yawned, checking your watch through tired eyes. It was coming up to 2 am and while you wanted nothing more than to be asleep, all your intel pointed to O’Connell conducting his business after midnight.
Carisi couldn’t agree more, sat next to you in the drivers seat as you watched bar O’Connell reportedly owned. The place was dark, scaffolding to one side of newspaper covered doors. Apparently, apparently this old run down building was his newest investment, and you’d thought it was a good a place as any to conduct private business, especially the kind involving a missing child that an entire city was out looking for.
Voight and Benson had agreed, you and Carisi had found yourselves parked just down the road, undercover car largely obscured by a hedge and fence. Hours combing through files at his desk had cumulated into this, swapping intel between both units as you all tried to figure out and navigate your new temporary partnerships.
“What is this guy, a vampire or something?” Carisi half joked, half complained. You were both wearing your vests, but had since ditched your police jackets, the heat making both of you more tired that you’d like. The night had brought little relief from the Summer sun that had been beating down all day, the leaves on the hedge barely conveying any signs of a breeze.
“Maybe I was wrong about this,” you admitted after a moment, watching yet another car that wasn’t O’Connell drive down the street and into the distance. None had stopped outside the bar, no one had even walked close to it except an elderly couple on the other side of the street.
Carisi glanced your way for a long moment, watching as you worried your lip as you thought about Logan. You didn’t know what was going through his mind, but he’d been torn away from his entire life by a man he barely knew, and you didn’t want to think about what would happen if you didn’t get him back tonight.
“You trust your gut?” Carisi asked, the question giving you pause. Gut instinct had always been something Voight valued in his Intelligence Unit, you had to trust yourself and those around you if you were going to make it through the day, and catch the bad guy.
“I do,” you told him with conviction. With limited information and limited time, you could afford the luxury of spending days checking out each of O’Connell’s potential locations, it was now or never, and every fiber of your being was telling you that this was the place.
“Well okay,” Carisi replied, “then we stay put. The rest of our units are checking out other possible spots he might show tonight, we’ll get him.” He gave you a reassuring smile and reached into the bag by his feat, pulling out a tupperware box.
You had to ask. “How can you be so confident? I mean the Special Victims Unit, you guys do this kind of thing all the time, I’m not sure I could remain as optimistic as you.” He chuckled at that, offering you what looked like home made cannoli from the box as he thought over your question. You thanked him, devouring the sweet treat a little too eagerly, it tasted great and you hadn’t eaten in hours.
“I have faith, without it I don’t know if I’d have been able to do it for as long as I have,” he answered honestly, “what we do makes a difference, protecting those who need it the most and making the world a little safer, you just need to think about the ones you’ve saved, not the ones you haven’t.”
“But these cases... I mean we deal with the worst people, but you deal with the worst of the worst,” you continued. All the cases in Intelligence that stuck with you were like the cases SVU dealt with all the time, but despite the years he’d spent doing these cases, Carisi still had such a light and hope about him.
Antonio was your partner, and friend, you’d take a bullet for him in a heartbeat, but you’d seen what years on the job had done to him. The divorce, the drugs... it weighed on him, you could see it in his eyes. It had obviously occurred to you that Intelligence wasn’t your average unit by any means, but this different perspective was more refreshing that you expected.
“We also catch the worst of the worst, most of the time,” Carisi countered and you grinned. You hadn’t really thought about it like that, helping yourself to some more food. He regarded you for a second before adding: “you haven’t been a detective long have you?”
You shrugged, “couple of years, moved out of uniform as quickly as I could though, barely got the promotion before Voight offered me a spot in his unit.” You thought back to those early days, how excited you’d been to be offered the job, everyone knew about Intelligence and its reputation, you’d jumped at the chance to be a part of the unit and hadn’t looked back since.
“Give it some time, you’ll find the right mentality you need to process these kinds of cases,” Carisi assured you, eyes flicking back to the deserted, half lit street. You could tell he was just as worried and determined as you were to save Logan, but he also had a calm about him right then that you really wished you could master.
“These are amazing by the way,” you told him, cannoli in hand as you tried to steer the conversation away from the serious edge it had acquired, “did you make them?”
He smiled, eyes lighting up a little. “Yeah I did, family recipe. I like to make them on long stakeouts, keeps the blood sugar high and the spirits up.”
“Well I am going to have to cozy up to your family then if you all cook like this,” you laughed, thinking about your own family, and then thinking about Logan’s as the laughter died.
“So what about you, you cook?” Carisi asked and you pulled yourself out of your worried thoughts.
“Me? Nah, not so much. I mean, I used to, but I never seem to find the time anymore,” you admitted. Working in Intelligence was pretty demanding, worth it, but still, there was only so much take out a person should eat, and you’d definitely surpassed that limit getting back from work after all those late nights.
“Order some of your pie pizzas instead?” He teased and you feigned dramatic insult.
“Oh really? You had to go there?” You laughed, “keep your paper pizzas alright, Chicago knows what it’s doing.” Carisi shook his head and you knew it was an argument neither of you would concede, but you’d found yourself getting pretty comfortable in the car.
“Forgive me if I don’t take the word of someone who only once got a connecting flight through here, have you ever actually had proper New York pizza? Because I’ve had Chicago’s attempt,” he pointed out, causing you to pause with your mouth half open, knowing that you didn’t have anyway to dispute that.
“I- shut up,” you replied like a middle schooler and soon you were both laughing. Carisi was easy to talk to, not just with his clarity about the job, but his welcoming personality too.
“You should try it before you go back to Chicago, after we wrap this case,” he suggested and you offered a little shrug to say you’d think about it just as another car was driving down the road.
You were instantly alert as you noticed the car beginning to slow, both you and Carisi switching gears into police mode as the car pulled up outside of the bar. Gotcha.
You waited with bated breath, one hand resting on the handle of your door while the other inched towards your thigh holster. Carisi radioed in a potential sighting, both ready to go at a moments notice as three figures emerged from the car. Two taller, male, the other quite clearly a child.
While the dimly lit street prevented you both from making a clear ID, the plates on the car matched the ones seen leaving JFK. You and Carisi nodded to each other, this was it. Carisi confirmed the sighting and you were ordered to hold your position unless absolutely necessary, with Voight placing pointed emphasis on your name as he relayed the instructions.
You clenched your jaw, hating waiting as they all went to the entrance of the bar, knocking before being let it. There were other people inside, maybe O’Connell himself. Part of you wanted to go in right now, finish it, but you didn’t know how many people were inside, or how armed they were. Waiting for back up was the only option for now, so you reluctantly sat tight.
“We’ll get him,” Carisi insisted, noticing your tension, just as ready to spring into action as you were.

I hear the elevator ding and glance at my watch, 6:15… who is here this early?
“Oh good, you are awake.” Sofia strolls into the penthouse, setting her bag on the bar and resting her hands on her lips. “We need to talk.” Oh great…
I fold the newspaper and set it down on the counter, bringing my coffee to my lips and taking a small sip before focusing my eyes on her. I wait for her to start… its too early for me to play these games.
“That little stunt that Ana pulled last night was completely unacceptable.” She purses her lips and narrows her eyes at me. “I can’t have someone under our employment treating my family like that.”
I bite my tongue with a sigh… first of all, she is under my employment… not ‘ours’.
“Sofia… the boys love her… I really don’t want to do this to them.” I choose my words carefully as to not give away my true feelings… I have never lied so much in my life…
“Sam, it was embarrassing and out of line.” Red color rises up her neck as the volume of her voice rises.
“Come on, Sofia. Don’t you think you’re being a little irrational here?” I plead.
“She completely humiliated my father in front of everyone! Some of the club staff heard her.” She takes a step toward me, lifting and pointing one long manicured finger at my chest.
“She was defending you.” Now I am starting to get annoyed, this really isn’t up to you Sofia.
“I don’t care. There’s a way to handle that sort of situation and that wasn’t it. I want her fired immediately.”
“Look, I will take care of it, but there is absolutely no way I am letting her go. That is not even up for discussion, and it ultimately is not up to you.” I turn from her and pick up my coffee, effectively ending the conversation. I hear her scoff as the sound of her heels echo through the penthouse.
I run my hands down my face with a sigh… fuck.
***
My feet pound against the pavement as the sun starts to rise over the New York skyline. Maybe today would be a good day to bring Ana into the lab… I shake my head at the thought… she has been avoiding you…
I stop to catch my breath, resting my hands on my knees before looking up at the bluing sky.
I know she has to have aspirations outside of being a nanny… like being your wife? My eyes widen… what the fuck, where did that come from? I pinch the bridge of my nose before taking the final sprint to the penthouse… Duty and responsibility…
***
I lean against the kitchen counter, bringing my coffee to my lips. She has to come in here eventually… I hear the light tapping of feet and she quietly rounds the corner into the kitchen, her eyes widening when our eyes meet.
“Sam! I didn’t expect you to be up so early.” Her emerald eyes quickly drop to the floor.
“I’ve been meaning to talk to you. You can be a difficult woman to find, when you want to be.”
“I know what you’re going to say, but you’re wrong.” Her eyes rise to meet mine and she pushes her shoulders back with confidence.
“I am?” Where did that come from?
“Maybe I embarrassed Paolo. Maybe I spoke out of turn. But I was also honest and right.” Her eyes narrow as her pink lips turn down in a frown. “Aren’t those the values you want me to teach Mason and Mickey?”
“I’m not going to fire you, Ana.” I breathe a sigh of relief before reaching out and lightly touching her arm.
“But Sofia-“ Her mouth opens with surprise.
“Sofia doesn’t get a say in this.” My tone comes out more angry than I intended. “Yes, she was upset about what happened at the club, but I wouldn’t fire someone just to soothe her ego. Especially when everything you said to Paolo was spot on.”
“Good, ‘cause I’m not gonna stop speaking my mind.” I see determination in her eyes and it sends a wave of desire through me.
“I wouldn’t want you to. Besides, if I fired everyone who voiced their opinion, I’d be an army of one. The world needs more thinkers like you.” My gaze lingers on her lips as she shines from my praise. “Actually, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about this morning… your future. I thought maybe you could come to the office with me today. Carter can watch the boys, and I know you have ambitions outside of being a nanny. This is your chance to see a Fortune 500 company up-close and personal.”
“Dalton Enterprises is a little out of my league, don’t you think?” She turns to get a cup of coffee, looking at me out of the corner of her eye.
“Nonsense, I’ve seen your credentials. I almost handed your resume over to HR instead of hiring you personally.” Don’t sell yourself short Ana, you are as brilliant as you are beautiful.
“Really? I would’ve loved working under you… it any position.” Her eyes darken, making my cock twitch, as I imagine her bent over my desk.
“I don’t doubt it. You’re very… capable.” I turn towards the counter to hide my growing desire… calm down Dalton.
“Thank you, Sam. Or should I call you ‘Mr. Dalton’ again today?” Her pink lips turning up in a smile.
“‘Sam’ is fine. Now, do you wanna tell the boys, or should I?” Her eyes light up as she turns on her heel.
“I’ll tell them.”
***
The car ride to work is quiet and riddled with sexual tension as the memories of the last time we were alone together in the back seat come flooding back. I steal a glance at Ana, who has her thighs clenched shut and a blush creeping across her cheeks. She is remembering it too.
When Carter rolls to a stop and opens the door, I have managed to successfully control the fire building in my chest. Ana and I walk into Dalton Enterprises confidently, side by side. This just feels so natural…
“Good morning, Mr. Dalton. I made a submission to the patent folder whenever you have a moment to review.” Grant walks up to me, effectively ending my day dream.
“Excellent. Grant, have you met Ana Schyuler?” I step to the side, gesturing to Ana.
“Haven’t had the pleasure. Are you new here?”
“Oh no, I-“ Her eyes widen.
“Maybe someday, if we’re lucky. She just got her masters in chemistry, and shows a lot of promise.” I glance down at her and I see her flash me a grateful smile.
“Mr. Dalton, call for you on line one.” Stacy, my assistant, has appeared at my side.
“Be right there.” I look back at Ana with a nod.
***
When I go to rejoin Ana, I watch her face as she talks to Grant. Her features are alight as she clearly talks about something she is passionate about. God she is so beautiful…
“Spoken like a future boss.” I hear Grant say as I walk up.
“Should I be worried about my job?” I ask as Ana’s radiant smile is turned towards me.
“No, I’d keep you around to smooth the transition of power.” She says with humor.
Grant leaves to join a meeting and I fight the urge to place my hand on Ana’s lower back as I guide her to my private elevator. I step in after her, the smell of jasmine filling my senses as her eyes flick to mine. My mind races with the possibilities of being alone with her in this elevator, and right as the doors are about to close, a hand slips in to stop them.
“Sam, we need you. There’s a problem with the office in Milan.” Robin’s face is etched with concern as his eyes meet mine. I watch his concern turn to pleasure as his eyes settle on Ana. “Hey, Ana. Fancy seeing you here.”
“Hey, Robin. What’d you do now?” I stifle my laugh with Ana’s choice of words.
“I never said it was my fault.” His eyes scan her body as his tone drops.
“Strategic guess.” Her eyes are fixed on him.
I narrow my eyes at Robin who is too infatuated with Ana to notice.
“Damn, Ana, I don’t want to just abandon you here, but these meetings can go on and on…”
“I can take her off your hands and skip the meeting altogether. It’ll be lunch before you’re done anyway…” Robin’s eyes still haven’t left Ana’s body.
“I like that idea even less.” My voice gruff as I try to grab his attention.
“Can I sit in? That’s why you brought me today, right? To see you in action?” Her eyes widen as she looks up at me.
“That’s true. Alright, follow me.” The doors to the elevator open and she follows me out. We walk into the conference room, and I watch as Ana takes a seat at the table. Her eyes flick to mine and I give her a smile, that’s my girl. Robin pulls up Luca from the Milan office whose face is dropped in worry.
“Signor Dalton, c’e un grosso problema qui.”
“In inglese, per favore, Luca. Non tutti qui parlano italiano.” I respond back to him, wishing to continue this conversation in English.
“We’ve had a security breach. Several files were lifted onto a jump drive. We think it was a former employee. The suspect was last seen in Lab C.” His words make my temper rise and I quickly forget about the other people in the room as the rest of the board members begin to murmur around me.
“Our customer DNA profiles are in that database. If the data get’s out, it’ll be the most catastrophic violation of privacy in our lifetime.” My hands turn into fists at my side.
“Our stock is going to plummet.” Luca’s voice rings out over the speaker.
“Our stock? What about the millions of customers who trusted us?” Our fucking stock is the last thing on my mind you imbecile. I close my eyes and are a deep breath as I try to collect my thoughts. “Luca, how did a former employee even have access to those files?” I narrow my eyes at him and he seems to falter at my question.
“That was my fault, Mr. Dalton. I lost my temper and gave him immediate notice instead of following our usual protocol. I’m sorry-“
I put my hand up, and he stops his useless apology. “Seal off the complex and tell security to do a thorough search, building by building. Then, alert the police. Call me as soon as it’s done. Your job is on the line here, Luca.” I reach over and end the call before he can say anything else.
“Fiona, follow up with the Milan office in an hour. David, I’m going to need projections on the impact of the breach.”
“You’ve got it, boss.” Fiona pulls out her phone ad furiously starts typing. I turn my attention to Robin.
“Robin, write up a press release. You’ve always been good at getting people who should be mad at you to calm down.”
“It is one of my many talents.” He sits back in his chair with a cocky smile.
I can feel Ana’s gaze on me, but before I have a chance to settle my attention on her, my phone buzzes in my pocket.
“It’s my father. I have to take this.” I reach into my pocket and step out of the conference room making my way to my office.
“Can you get Ana and have her meet me in my office, please.” Stacy gives me a nod before I step into my office and bring my phone to my ear.
“Hey Dad.”
“What the hell is going on in Milan, Sam?”
“We had a security breach. Luca didn’t follow protocol and now we have someone loose in the complex with our customers data.” I hear my dad take a sharp intake of breath.
“Do you know who this person is?” He asks, and I can hear the anger in his tone.
“I have Fiona following up shortly. Luca is trying to clean up his mess now.”
I hear a knock on the door and the vision of Ana is standing there, all long legs and olive skin. I wave her in, my body responding to her presence like a breath of fresh air.
“I’ll update you again when there is an update, Dad… You know everything I do, promise.”
“Sam, I expect a lot more than that. Luca needs to be held accountable for his actions…”
My dad continues to drone on as I look at Ana and roll my eyes. I watch her gaze grow heated as her eyes travel up my body, lingering in all the right places, until finally her eyes rise to mine. Her gaze doesn’t break when she realizes I caught her staring, her emerald eyes dark with desire, and the fantasies of what I want to do to her in this office come rushing back.
“…Dad, I’ll call you back.” I hang up the phone before he has a chance to object. I might regret that later…
“Sorry about all the excitement. This wasn’t exactly what I had in mind when I invited you to the office.”
“No need to apologize. Besides, it’s been kind of… thrilling to see you in action.” She clenches her thighs shut. “I like the way you take charge.”
Fuck…
“Good to know…” Is all I can think of to say in that moment. Try to keep it professional… “It seems you’re quite the hit around the office already.”
“I am?”
“Everyone is so curious about you… I blame Grant.” I also blame how damn beautiful you are. “Well, that and the fact I’ve been so busy, I haven’t been able to give you a proper tour. But I booked the labs for this afternoon to make sure we have them mall to ourselves.”
“Really? That’s amazing! Thank you.” Her eyes light up, god you are so beautiful when you are happy.
“You’re very welcome. Although…” My voice trails off. How do I word this….?
“What?” She asks casually leaning back in her chair and crossing her legs.
“I’m an impatient man, Ana. I’m not sure I can wait that long to get you alone…” My eyes trail over her bare legs as I imagine them spread open before me.
“What did you have in mind?” She notices my heated gaze.
“We could have lunch together, away from the prying eyes of my employees. Honestly, after the morning I’ve had, I could really use the break from the office. What do you say?”
“Let’s go.” She stands up confidently and moves towards the door.
“Great. Let me send a quick text and we can head up there.”
***
Soon, Ana and I are walking side by side along the High Line, I have a picnic basket in my hand. I find a quiet bench and sit down. I watch her fold her body next to me, the electricity that arcs between us, making me feel alive. She grabs the picnic basket and begins ruffling through it, the corner of her lips turning up in a small smile before she looks over at me.
“Are you telling me that they managed to whip all of this up after a quick text? There must be enough food for twenty people in here!” She holds up a whole range of appetizers.
“I admit, I was hoping you would take me up on my offer, so I planned ahead a little bit… But really, all the chef did was pack what they were serving in the cafeteria into a basket instead of onto a tray to send up to my office.” I shrug my shoulders.
“You have this kind of food everyday?” She looks down at the content of the basket.
“One of the perks of the job.” And the perks of being the boss.
“Mmmm, my compliments to the chef.” She says after taking a bite, her eyes fluttering closed with pleasure.
“So, first impressions. What do you think of Dalton Enterprises?” I pop an olive in my mouth and watch her carefully.
“Seems like a great place to work, especially if you get to eat like this all the time. Everyone’s so friendly and excited about their jobs here. I could see myself working here in the future… assuming things aren’t too complicated between us.” Her eyes grow distant as she shifts her attention to the people walking by.
My mood immediately turns serious as I reach over and place my hand on top of hers.
“I think you’d be a great fit. And the last thing I want to be is a ‘complication’ for your career. Regardless of what happens between us.”
“I know you’re not the kind of man to hold that sort of thing against me… but still, it’s nice to hear you say it.” Her emerald eyes swing to mine as she gives me a small smile.
I turn my attention to the view, enjoying this rare moment of peace between the two of us. I think back on the meeting with Luca and wince as I realize she saw that side of me.
“I hope it didn’t bother you too much to see me get tense in the Milan meeting.”
“Not at all. This company is your baby, and sometimes that requires tough love.” She pauses, and takes a sharp intake of breath, her face turning to resolve. “In fact, it made me want you to discipline me someday.”
My gaze cuts back to hers, did she really just say that? God, I want to bend you over and spank you right now for saying that to me out here…
“Ana… you can’t just say that to me. Not when we’re in public. Not when I can’t do exactly what we both want, right here, right now.”
“I’m not stopping you.” She leans towards me, her eyes flashing.
“No, but the threat of a public indecency charge is.” I smile at her challenge.
“Wheres the fun in that? Maybe I should break a few rules until you tie me up and teach me a lesson.” She gives me a knowing smile and I picture her round ass bare and pink before me, begging for more.
“I have thought about creative ways to punish you…” I admit, my voice husky.
“Like what?” She whispers.
“Drive you to the edge and not let you fall over. Even when you’re begging for it.” I lower my voice as my body leans towards hers.
Her eyes darken as she moans my name, a blush creeping across her neck and up her cheeks as I watch her body shudder.
A dog barks in the distance, bringing me out of my fantasy, I sit up and clear my throat.
“Dessert?” I ask her, swallowing down my desire.
“Dessert? Yeah, sure.” She blushes again.
I grab a strawberry, dipping it into the soft chocolate and offering it to her. She looks between he strawberry and my face before taking it carefully from my fingers. I watch as she traces the curve of her lower lip tantalizingly slow, her eyes never leaving mine. Her tongue darts out and licks the chocolate away. I shift to try and hide the growing hardness in my pants.
“Mmmm, that’s so tasty.” She moans, her eyes fluttering closed. “Sam, I need more…”
“Ana…” Fucking hell woman.
I watch her grab a strawberry and dip it into the chocolate, bringing it up to her lips and sucking lightly on the tip. A wave of desire makes my cock twitch as I imagine her lips wrapped around me.
“Are you trying to kill me? Because its working…”
“I can see that.” She gives me a sly smile, her eyes drifting down to the obviously bulge in my pants.
I swallow, trying to regain control as my mind wanders to the fucked up situation we are in, and the reality hits me hard.
“Ana… I’m sorry you’re caught in the middle of all this.”
“All what?” She asks, her face passive.
“My life. My engagement. My… desire. It’s not fair for me to put you through this… not when I can’t give you everything you deserve.” I reach out and gently place my hand on her cheek, running my thumb across her full, pink bottom lip. “But I can’t seem to stay away.” Because I don’t want to stay away.
“What if you are what I deserve?” She asks me, her eyes searching mine.
I can’t help but feel like you deserve so much better than me… I watch her lean her body closer to mine, I can tell she wants me to kiss her…
“You have no idea how much I wish I’d met you first.” I whisper as I look between her emerald eyes which are fixed on mine. My thumb caresses her soft olive skin.
“Sam, it doesn’t matter. We’ll figure it out. I’m not going anywhere. Not after finding you.” Her words strike me hard as I realize what she is saying.
“Really? You’ll wait?”
She slowly nods her head and leans into my palm.
“Forever and ever… although I’d really rather we work something out sooner than that.”
God, she is giving me way more than I deserve… you stupid ass hole, what are you doing?
“Me too.” I say with a smile. “I will find us a clean way out of this mess. I promise.” I don’t even know if that is a promise I can keep, but I am going to try my fucking hardest. “For now, though, let’s just enjoy each other’s company? For one childfree day?”
“Deal.”
I drop my hand from her cheek as we continue to enjoy each others company, the lunch hour passing way too quickly.
***
After lunch I lead Ana to my favorite part of Dalton Enterprises: the labs. I feel like a teenager as we descend down the elevator and through the key card locked doors. I ensured Stacy understood that we were not to be interrupted, and ignored the weird expression that crossed her features at my request.
I swipe my keycard in front of the final door, pushing the door open to the robotics lab. I take a deep breath and breathe in the smell of metal and feel the charge of electricity in the air.
“This is where the magic happens. The prototypes, the formulas, the fistfights over whose name goes first on the patent…” I turn my attention to Ana. Her eyes have widened as she looks around in awe.
“I can picture it now.”
“This is my favorite part of our new line. Granted, it’s got some kinks to work out.” I lead her to a table with our latest project, slipping the gloves onto my hands which make the tiny robotic arms on the table match my every movement.
“Whoa. I can’t decide if you’re a mad scientist… or if the tiny robot is too cute for words.” She says with amazement.
“Are those the only options?” I give her a wry smile.
“Cute or crazy? More often than you’d think.” Her gaze lingers for a moment before she turns her attention back to the miniature robot.
“I’ve never seen you so passionate.” Her voice comes out low and my eyes snap to hers.
“Oh, I’m not sure about that. You’ve seen me plenty passionate.”
“I meant about your job.” She rolls her eyes with a grin, and a blush spreads across her cheeks.
“I do love a good experiment. And as messy as it can be, I’m glad that’s a trait I passed down to the boys.” I stifle a laugh.
“So, if you’re in one for a promotion to CEO… will you have to leave all this? The lab?” Her eyes scan the lab and my stomach sinks.
I look down at my hands, slowly peeling the gloves off.
“Unfortunately, yes… I’m not looking forward to that part, but I’ve been waiting to lead Dalton Enterprises for a long time. It’s my namesake. Even if it’s not easy to let go of what I love… sometimes you have to.” The double meaning in my words is not lost on me… but I hope she doesn’t notice.
I watch as Ana leans back on the counter and watches me carefully. The words duty and responsibility ring in my ears like a broken vinyl, the ache in my chest growing as I scan the curves of her body.
“Why is your dad hanging on to the title of CEO, anyway? He’s not even here today.”
“He’s easing his way into retirement, but it’s hard for him to let go… especially given my so-called ‘wild youth’ before the boys. And then as a widower, I think he saw me as a liability. Too fragile. Adrift.” My mind sinks back into the memories of the countless arguments my father and I have been in. “It’s taken so long to finally earn his trust, prove to him that I’m a reliable man.” Which is why you need to control yourself…
I watch Ana reach out to console me, but I hand her the gloves first. Duty and responsibility… self-control… you have worked so hard to get where you are… don’t fuck it all up now.
“Anyway, why don’t you try it now?” I give her a small smile and I watch her lips turn down in disappointment which she quickly masks as she pulls the gloves onto her slender hands. She makes slight movements with her hands, which the robots effectively match.
“Okay, this is really cool.” Her eyes dance with excitement as she blows me a kiss. You are making this really difficult… but the light in her eyes is contagious. You are so radiant when you are happy…
“Clever.” My eyes meet hers with a smile before the moment is broken by the sound of the robot flipping over onto the table.
“Crap! Did I break it?” Her eyes widen slightly in alarm.
“We built it to be more resilient than that. Here, try it like this. You have to go slowly. Gently.” I position myself behind her, and the smell of Ana, jasmine and sunshine, suddenly fills my senses and clouds my judgement. I run my hands down her slender arms, hearing her breath hitch at the heat and contact. My hands come to rest on top of hers and her body involuntarily leans back into mine. “Go too fast, and the whole system shorts out.” I whisper, my lips brushing the shell of her ear.
She turns slowly in my arms, and I am acutely aware of how close we are, our breathes mixing in the silent, still air. My eyes scan the delicate features of her face, ending at the curves of her plump, pink lips. A forbidden place that draws me in like a moth to the flame. I am going to hell…
“Sam…” her lips open and she whispers a desperate plea. She leans toward me until our lips are only centimeters apart. My head starts to swim in the intoxicating smell of her, remembering the sweet taste of her lips, and the delicious blush that covers her body when we touch.
“What if someone walks in?” Her emerald eyes flick between my eyes and my lips.
“No one’s going to. I booked the lab for us. No one will dare interrupt.” My voice is husky as it betrays my desire. My self control is teetering on the brink. I see the moment that her resolve finally crumbles and in that moment I reach up and cup her cheek, as our lips meet in a desperate kiss.
“I tried so hard to hold back… but it feels so good to let go.” She leans back for a moment, her eyes scanning my face.
“I know exactly what you mean…” I pull her lips back to mine in a heated kiss that deepens as my self control effectively disappears. All I can think about is how sweet her lips taste, how intoxicating she smells, and how badly I want to feel every inch of her skin.
My fingertips graze down her curves, as she leans into my touch, a soft moan escaping her lips. She closes her lips around my tongue and sucks hard, sending a shooting wave down to my cock as I groan into her mouth. I feel her lips turn up in a smile and I moan her name.
“You’ve been thinking about this all day, haven’t you?” She pulls away, her lips red and swollen from our kisses and that blush covering her cheeks.
“God, yes…” I admit as I run my hands down the curves of her body, unbuttoning her silk blouse and pushing it off of her shoulders exposing her perfectly round breasts in her lace bra. My fingertips graze her newly exposed skin as I push her skirt down to the floor and I take a moment to appreciate her figure. God… you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen… “I think about this, about you, all day, every day.”
I put my arms on her lower back, pulling her body to mine as my lips leave a trail of kisses down her neck, then her shoulder, tasting her skin and listening to the soft moans that leave her beautiful lips, have me blind with my desire. She moans my name and the sound of my name off of her lips is almost enough to unman me.
She pushes my jacket off of my shoulders and I watch her shaking fingers quickly unbutton my shirt, pushing it from my shoulders and exposing my chest. She tries to reach out, but I grab her body and bring her breast to my mouth. I suck on her nipple through the lace and I feel her coming apart in my arms.
“I could kiss you forever, Ana.” Because you taste so damn sweet. I drag my teeth across her breast and she gasps as her body responds so perfectly to mine.
“I’m tired of just kissing.” She grinds her hips against my growing desire causing a moan to escape my lips.
“What’s gotten into you?” I look down at her and her eyes are dark and hooded.
“I liked seeing your sexy dominant side. You were so firm and strong and hard with that Luca guy, showing him exactly what kind of boss you are… it was hot” A smile plays on her lips as she continues to grind against me.
“Remind me to let you watch whenever I discipline someone at work.” A fire is raging inside of my body as the friction continues.
“I’d rather you just discipline me instead.” She moans before our lips meet again in a frenzied kiss.
My fingertips travel around her exposed skin before they dip inside of the cup of her bra.
“What’re you doing to me, Ana?” I whisper breathlessly against her lips.
“You’re the one who - oh!- makes me…” I don’t let her finish her thought as my fingers dip lower, feeling the pooling wetness between her thighs. I feel her body start to tremble.
“Sam, are you… sure?”
I pull back and look at her eyes which are wide as she pants. I grab her hand and place it over my racing heart.
“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life. I’ve never wanted anyone more in my life.” In this moment I realize truer words have never been spoken. This woman has my heart, I don’t know how it happened… but in the few months that I have known her, she has completely consumed me. I realize in this moment that I have to do whatever I can to have a future with her. “Don’t you feel the same way?”
“I have never been more sure of anything too.” Her eyes search mine in her confession. “No matter the consequences. I’m all in.”
Her words send a fresh wave of desire through me as my eyes scan her every curve, memorizing every freckle on her olive skin.
“Tell me what you want, Ana. Whatever it is, it’s yours. I’m yours.”
“Sam, I want you on the table.” She grinds her hips against my desire again.
I lean back and give her a sly smile before she grabs my hand and pulls me to the other side of the lab. I watch her perfect peach of an ass walk away from me, her hips swaying from side to side.
“I always wanted to do this.” She says with a smile before she brushes all of the papers off of the table. She lifts her hips up and lays herself back as if in offering before me. I take a moment to marvel at her body, spread before me.
“Good thing none of that was important…” I smile.
“Would you care if it was?”
“With you spread out before me, moaning my name? Not even remotely.” My eyes travel down to her most intimate place as I spread her legs wide. I bring my lips to the inside of her knee, blazing a trail of hot, fiery, open-mouthed kisses up thigh. I bring my nose to the apex of her thighs, inhaling the sweet scent of her desire. So fucking sweet. I am going to take my sweet time with this delicious pussy. I can feel the moisture as I run my tongue along the lace. Her hips writhing as she moans my name. God, its so fucking good.
I reach up slowly to hook a finger into her panties when the worst sound I could possibly hear in this moment rings through the lab. That fucking buzzer.
My eyes fly to hers as she lifts her head in alarm.
“What was that?”
“Someone just used their keycard to enter the hall.”
I stand up quickly, grabbing Ana’s hips and helping her off the table, before we hurry to the opposite end of the lab where our clothes lay strewn on the floor. We dress quickly, and just in time, before I hear a closer buzzer signal that whoever is coming down here is about to join us. I look over at Ana who is making still blushing and her lips are still read. Fuck. I run my fingers through my hair.
Thats when Robin walks into the room and my anger flares.
“He should just be in here.” He is holding a phone to his ear.
“Robin! What a pleasant surprise!” Ana exclaims and I fight the urge to pinch my nose.
My eyes are fixed on Robin as he looks between the both of us and gives me a knowing look. Fuck, fuck, fuck.
“Sofia, Im gonna have to call you back.” He narrows his eyes at me before pulling the phone from his ear and hanging up the call.
This isn’t good.
***
A/N- There are a few choices in here I really struggled to make with my MC, I played it several ways and ended up with this, before Ana really knew what she was getting herself into. I had to rethink who she was at this point in her life with Sam, but please forgive me if you don’t like the choices that I/She made. Muah!

a prompt then: early days, young teacher Severus - maybe Minerva discovering that Severus Snape, ex. Death Eater, has indeed a heart under all the black clothes and sarcasm. The first time she "really sees" him.
It was early in the morning - the sun had not completely come up yet, and it was a quiet time Minerva enjoyed spending in her living room most of the time, when she had enough energy to get up.
This morning however, she did not feel like sitting on the couch and read, and decided to have a cup of coffee in the staffroom, where there was always plenty available. The corridors were still cool, and she looked forward to the warmth of the beverage against her hands.
But, as she pushed the door opened, she understood she would not be alone. There was light coming from the nearest fireplace. She stood at the center of the room, looking down at the man sitting next to the flames.
"Professor Snape", she greeted him politely.
Severus was startled. Minerva hesitated; she was not really pleased with the perspective of spending her morning with him - she was not very fond of him, no matter what Albus said.
The headmaster was convinced they would get along well if they each did their bit, but Minerva was not so sure. She could not befriend someone so young and so gloomy, someone who had been a death eater and her student; Albus had already given him another chance. She did not see why she should give him one, and he looked, as much as he could tell, better on his own.
"Professor McGonagall", Severus replied, looking uneasy.
He appeared to be awfully tired and worried, this even she could say - it wasn't usual to see him looking so... human. She had clearly caught him off guard. She poured herself a cup of coffee, putting one in front of her younger colleague as well. He seemed surprised.
"Why are you up so early? Young people like you should sleep more", she said casually.
Severus, not used to be adressed so directly by one of his colleagues, looked up.
"I was merely trying to solve some... issues I had with my students recently."
"Anything I could help you with?"
Severus glanced at her.
"I don't think you could. It's very specific to my Slytherins."
Minerva could not help but smile at his use of the possessive pronoun.
"Have you talked to the headmaster?" she asked.
Severus glanced at a notebook which was lying on its sofa's right arm.
"I did. But the headmaster... is a busy man."
Minerva watched him carefully. Was it because of his students that he looked like death warmed over?
"Some of my older, pure-blood Slytherins take pleasure into bullying the younger half-bloods, and I'm at loss about how to handle this without causing them more harm," Severus said suddenly. He paused, wondering if he should continue. "How do you change ideas that are rooted so deep in their education and the House's values? Without creating a schism? Without endangering the younger ones?"
It was Minerva's turn to look surpised. She had noticed he was taking his job to heart, always busying himself with improvements on the curriculum and brewing techniques Albus was quite interested in. But his students? She had always thought he hated children. He had not chosen to be a teacher, this she knew.
"My predecessor did not care, but I have been trying to help those who reached out to me" he pointed at the notebook "I needed more than the standard students files. I am trying to keep track of every student's background and family issues... Some who are certainly abused at home... I certainly lack practice" he added. "And it does not help with the harassment."
If she could not help him, at least she would know, he thought, tired of keeping all of this for himself. She was the teacher who had turned a blind eye on the Marauders - he felt his face contract angrily - but surely she would have some practice regarding her own House. If he could use it to do better than she had done...
How could he get a good night of sleep knowing some students were sleeping in the same place as their tormentors? Even him had not had to put up with this.
But he had to confess, despite all of this, it felt good - it felt good to keep his mind busy, even with worry, so he would not think of himself. His colleague looked astonished.
"May I see?" she asked almost hesitantly, leaning toward the notebook.
Severus was surprised. Dumbledore had not been interested, telling him he was pleased he was serious about his future role as Head of House, and should get in touch with Slughorn if he needed further information - which the former Potions Master did not have. Slughorn was supposed to help him for the first three years of teaching, but Severus expected nothing from him - he had been his student before.
He handed her his notes.
Minerva remained silent for long minutes, scanning every page covered with Severus tiny but neat handwriting. There were so many things she did not know, so much information that explained some students' behaviour - how had Severus managed to gather so much knowledge in one year? It was June, he had been there for ten months only.
She looked up at him, the stern look she usually displayed in his presence gone: she was astonished.
"If I may, professor, I should like to congratulate you. Your students have found a fine head of house", she told him, carefuly putting the notebook back on the table between them.
Severus almost smiled. Slowly, she got up and sat beside him on another couch, taking out her glasses.
"I don't think this changed anything for them, professor", the Potions Master said on a defeated tone.
Minerva smiled warmly, pushing a box of biscuits she kept in the room in front of him.
"Eat. Being a teacher certainly requires good health if you don't want to spend the summer recovering instead of enjoying your free time. Now," she added, nodding approvingly as took one of the biscuits, "have you considered using house union as an argument? Solidarity? It can work if you use house pride as a motive."
An hour later, they were heading to the breakfast table together, Albus' approving look following them.
It was the first time they sat next to each other - Minerva was sitted next to one of her colleagues, her former student gone.

Title: A Free Spot
Summary:
"While she was still a commander in the midst of a war, she had to shut out all raw emotion while she watched Levi take down titan after titan, as the airship took her further away from where she had wanted to be. She did too good of a job turning off her emotions then and her last memory of Levi had become a free spot in her mind.”
Slight AU! Levi sacrifices himself in Chapter 132 instead of Hange and Hange deals with the consequences years later.
Written for @levihanweek  Angstober 2020. Prompt: Free Spot
Link to cross-postings: AO3
Notes:
A part of me felt like Levi should have gone instead of Hange. That is, if one of them had to go. I'd still rather they both lived and got their happily ever after
I’m in the middle of writing for the greetings and farewell prompt but it's really just not looking to good rn so I'd rather not share it for now. Hopefully, I manage to get the motivation to finish it up. I’m probably gonna write some fluff and domestic Levihan after this. These prompts are just too heavy haha.
Either way, I had so much fun writing for angstober. I hope you enjoy and do tell me what you think!
You know Levi, it feels like my time has come. I want to act as cool as possible so let me go out like this...
It had been two years since the rumbling had stopped for good. Eren was dead. The Eldians and Marleyans had established a peace treaty and the survey corps was declared redundant, replaced with a special defense squad.
Mikasa and Armin willingly took over what was left of building the defense-oriented military. Having seen enough violence and loss to last a lifetime, one soldier slowly and quietly stepped down.
That one soldier helped build what became the new city of Paradis, but still felt the burden of responsibility. Disappearing from society and retiring to some farmland on the outskirts of central Paradis felt wrong although tempting.
That soldier had seen things first hand that most people would never experience, so it was easy to take on a job as a teacher. This was especially since most Eldians did not want a repeat of the last war and who better to teach the future generation than one who had experienced it at the front ranks.
The subjects taught were easy to pick up.
Math. Science. Languages. History.
Most kids would end up mastering the basics anyway and that was more than enough for most jobs. What most people from both sides had failed to master though, was how to empathize and how to critically think. They failed to learn how to talk things through or how to question orders.
How to talk things through. How to question orders.
That was what motivated the soldier-turned-teacher, to supplement lessons with anecdotes from the Survey Corps days. It was like living in one's dreams again. The anecdotes before and after lessons kept the students entertained and it also kept the memory of one important person alive.
Three months into the lesson, one of the students had turned out to be more invested than the others and had raised her hand in the middle of one of their story times.
"Did you marry Levi?"
Maybe the former commander did get carried away.
"The soldier I mean. The one in your stories,"  the young girl clarified.
“Lena, you shouldn’t have asked that,” another student muttered.
Lena jumped up and bowed her head in embarrassment. "I'm sorry… You always got so excited when you talked about him that I thought…"
Hange only realized then that for a second she had not moved from her spot. She put a hand to her face to see that it was wet. She hastily looked back at the blackboard and wiped her face with the collar of her sweater.
"What would make you think we married?" She managed to ask as she looked back at the young student. Most of the kids in the room were roughly twelve to thirteen years old. At that point, she was still figuring out what could be mentioned and what couldn't to a bunch of preteens.
Lena blushed. "My big sister talked about her boyfriend like that and now they're married."
"Well that story could wait another time. It looks like classes are done for the day." The teacher quickly gathered up her learning materials into one messy pile on the table, thanking whatever god existed for the timing of that question at least.
Some students protested but the teacher did not budge. The latter looked back again at the blackboard as she listened to the students pack up their things and file out of the classrooms.
As soon as the last student left, Hange quickly closed the door behind her, slid on the floor and buried her face on her hands.
Why are you crying? It's been fucking years.
She slammed the floor with her fists, letting the pain that shook through her wrists, act as punishment for that random bout of emotion.
How many stories has she told them?
They had started off as stories detailing the lives of the survey corps members who had given their lives to fight a war fueled by the hate of two nations. Somehow, the stories had shifted to her own relationships. She had talked about Moblit and Erwin, the values they had upheld for the greater good of humanity.
How had she described him for the students to think they married?
Before she knew it, she had started to talk about the strongest soldier with ironically, the most unwavering regard for human life. The one soldier who was probably capable of taking down fifty soldiers without so much as a scratch was the same soldier who would ask her privately after meetings, if she could think of a better plan which would cost less lives than the one they had thought up just a while ago. He was a soldier who would always voted on alternatives that could preserve more lives.
At that point, Hange could not even recall what words she used or what tone she kept. She started to treat those story times she promised the students after every lesson as a reprieve, a way to just imagine once again the past that she had missed, and the memory that made her relax the most was that of Levi.
It had been three months since she started teaching. She guessed that she had probably started bringing him up after the first month. It had occurred to her until that moment that she had never really implied his actual fate.
Did she talk about him in present tense?
Did she say something to make them think that he had survived?
You know Levi, it feels like my time has come. I want to act as cool as possible so let me go out like this…
Her chest constricted as she remembered how she felt saying those words. At that moment she thought she was going to die.
How to question orders. How to talk things through.
Levi had never questioned her orders or tried to talk things through in public, in fear of undermining her position.  At that moment, right in front of everyone, Levi had said, "No. You're the commander. They need you out in the field. I'm not letting you die."
He had made a good point as he prepared his gear. Although he was humanity's strongest soldier at that time, he had become a little more than deadweight due to recent injuries. Either way, everyone had enough fate in his skills then, to know that even with those injuries, he'd still have enough power to take down a few titans and buy them some time to launch the ship.
While she was still a commander in the midst of a war, she had to shut out all raw emotion while she watched Levi take down titan after titan, as the airship took her further away from where she had wanted to be. She did too good of a job turning off her emotions then and her last memory of Levi had become a free spot in her mind.
Levi is alive. Levi exists in all nighters back in the office. He exists in the late nights in the forest, injured and half asleep.
As she allowed herself to relive that moment of two years ago, the only moment Levi blatantly disobeyed orders, the dam of emotions she had kept closed somewhere inside her started to flow free. She poked a few holes into it, allowing herself a few tears as she carried herself home.
It felt like it took ages but Hange finally found herself inside her empty apartment. She locked the door behind her and slid down once again on the cold wooden floor. She neglected to turn on the lights. The darkness that slowly swallowed the room as the sun started to set, only reminded her that she was alone, alone to her own devices and her own thoughts.
Levi existed before but now he is dead.
The free spot in her mind started to disappear, replaced by what should have been the raw emotion at seeing him burn and fall into the deep ocean. The grief came in large waves and Hange drowned in the emotions she had failed to release a year ago.
She called in sick the next morning and the day after and she sat alone on her bed, only standing up to eat or use the bathroom.
By what seemed to be the fourth day, it was as if she were floating. The waves had receded and she was left to survey for any damage.
Did you marry him? Another burning question came up from within her.
Hange rephrased it, given her present circumstances. Would I have married him?
Would marrying him have meant experiencing a continuation to those late night trainings as new soldiers?
Would it have meant a sequel to those late night conversations in the commander's office over tea?
Would it have meant someone welcoming her home every night after a long day’s work?
Would it have meant someone would be sitting beside her at that moment, hugging her, while she was too paralyzed by emotion to even get up?
Hange shook as she tried to imagine how it felt like again to be hugged. She knew she could have easily called someone, Mikasa, maybe Armin for a little company. Levi though was the last one she felt completely comfortable crying to, the last person she had ever shown complete vulnerability to.
And without him, she was alone.
The cruel truth was that that memory of Levi alive had overpowered her memory of his death. That sudden realization came as the memory once again became vivid, at a time where she had no more responsibilities of keeping soldiers alive in the midst of a battle.
Hange kicked her side table and watched as it toppled over, her belongings spilling out from underneath. She smashed her chair on top of the side table then the flower vase on the dresser.
The crown and the military had given her enough compensation to replace everything and that small afterthought was what only fueled her motivation to just release the pent up emotions. Everyone she had ever lost died for them anyway.
She went for the dresser to the side of the door and pulled out the drawers one by one, spilling out the contents on the floor before smashing them into the pile of remains of the furniture she had broken only a while ago.
She stopped at the third drawer when she saw the familiar green cloak and the wings of freedom insignia. At Levi’s last moments, she was wearing his cloak since she had expected to be the one to go.
As she spread out his cloak on the floor, she smelled traces of the familiar odor of titan’s blood. A year cooped up in the drawer had preserved the original scent. She buried her face on it and started to make out the scent of blood and sweat. At a certain point, she also made out the traces as well of the scent of old wood. The cloak had also started to adjust to the new world with no titans.
She threw the cloak on her still intact bed and sat cross legged on the floor.
Am I the only one who hasn’t moved on?  She let out a burst of laughter, and sprawled on the cold wooden floor.
The Titans are gone. The Survey Corps is gone. Everyone is dead. He’s dead.
                                              Free Spot
In total, Hange took a week out of work. She used that extra time to clean up and apologize to her neighbors after that breakdown.
Surprisingly, most of them had been understanding. Hange though did not want to use the excuse of being a shell shocked soldier to be a bother to anyone and had compensated all those who lived closest to her.
When she finally showed up back to the classroom, she was surprised to see all the students on their seats as if they had expected her to be back that day.
Of course, the substitute probably told them.
“You’re surprisingly behaved today.” Hange commented as she emptied her book bag on the table.
It was Lena who came out from behind her desk with a box and placed it on the teacher’s table.
“We heard you got really sick for a while so we got you a present which could maybe help you stay healthy,” she explained, still looking apologetic.
“Thank you.” Hange blushed as she started to untie the bow and opened the box underneath. Hange fought back a wave of nostalgia and the stinging sensation in her eyes as she opened the box to find a tea set, complete with a bag of black tea on the side.
“My dad told me tea is good for the body,” one student volunteered.
Hange put one hand to her mouth, as she felt her lips tremble. A part of her wanted to laugh and a part of her wanted to cry. She had told them enough stories to keep them busy for months but she had never mentioned tea. It was an irrelevant detail in the grand scheme of things, of course she wouldn’t. “He liked black tea. We spent a lot of our free time talking over tea,” she admitted as she traced the rim of the tea cup, holding it the same way she had seen him hold it countless times before.
For a second, Lena looked panicked. “I’m sorry we didn’t mean to… You don’t have to talk about it anymore. ”
“No. It was my fault. I’m sorry.” She stood up and put her hand on the head of the young girl. “It looks like everyone pretty much guessed what happened to that soldier huh?” She smiled, keeping her tone deliberately light.
A lot of the students kept a sullen look and Hange was sure someone had explained it to them or at the least, they had picked it up on their own.
“Well, that’s the reality of war. A lot of the soldiers don’t get to marry and have kids. Just so that everyone here could live in peace.”
That night, Hange emptied the contents of the gift box on her kitchen table.
Levi would have liked the tea set. Hange thought to herself as she allowed the black tea leaves to boil on the kettle. The smell of the black tea wafted through the air and Hange closed her eyes as she allowed herself to be brought back again to those many nights when he was the one who would serve her a cup of warm tea.
Did I add too much water? Did I add too much black leaves? Would he be disappointed?
She poured the contents of the kettle into the cup and watched the tea leaves settle to the bottom of the cup.
She positioned her hands on top of the teacup, attempting to hold the cup just like he used to. The heat right on top of the boiling water, almost scalded her palm and Hange gave up after a few tries.
I never really understood how you did it.
The warm malty taste of black tea in her mouth was nostalgic. Hange only realized then that she had unknowingly abandoned this luxury right after the war. It was as if her subconscious had been protecting her from a breakdown just like the one she just had.
The smell and the taste of black tea had always been about Levi who was long gone by then. As she caressed the intricate linings of the cup though, she also started to think of the efforts of the students who had thought up the present and saved up for it.
She looked back at the memories leading up to his sacrifice at the hands of the colossal titans. The pain was still there but it was far from excruciating. It was bittersweet. Somehow, she did not need to delude herself anymore. She just had to let that bundle of emotions and memories within her untangle themselves.
Levi was gone. To Hange though, he was still alive.
He was alive in the black tea she had allowed herself to enjoy once again.
He was alive in the anecdotes she had told her class in between lessons.
He was alive in every single person who was alive because of his sacrifice.
It’s the living who give meaning to the soldiers’ deaths. It's the living who keep the dead alive.

Interview TALKING ‘BOUT MY GENERATION: WILL BUTLER
Talking to Will Butler is a bit like trying to have a conversation with a human magpie. Hugely enthusiastic and with a constant giggle on the go (“I have a nervous laugh, so I laugh at more things than I should…”), the 37-year-old has a tendency to veer off down strange tangents, taking your original point but then getting distracted or excited by some other new, shiny train of thought in a different direction.
You can tell he’s smart - not just booksmart, but the kind of smart where you can practically see the cogs turning at 100mph. “I love knowledge for its own sake,” he professes at one point. “I believe in it to a fault. I think it’s worth knowing all this shit, for no other reason than just knowing that it’s true.” And it’s this attitude that’s filled the three years since ‘Everything Now’ - he and his Arcade Fire bandmates’ society-skewering fifth LP.
In that time, amid world tours and festival headlines, Will has had two more children - twins - and went to Harvard to study a masters in public policy. He also found time to record ‘Generations’ - a second solo effort that takes the brilliantly all-over-the-place nature of 2015’s ‘Policy’ and hones it into something that’s more pointed, though still clearly fuelled by the same curious mind. Or as he puts it: “The first [album] it’s like, ‘I’m at the market! There’s some eggplants! Oh there’s a nice sausage guy! And OK cool I’ll get some of those and these!’ But then ‘Generations’ was much more like, ‘I’ve been storing these bones in my freezer for two years and now we’re gonna boil this down to make the pure essence of the beast’.”
Like most debuts from artists splintering off from their main projects, ‘Policy’ had been born from accumulating a collection of material that didn’t fit with his band. Unlike most, Will had just been nominated for an Oscar (for his soundtrack to Joaquin Phoenix film Her) before its release, “so that was a confidence boost,” he notes amiably. Conversely, the essence of ‘Generations’’ particular beast seems a far more targeted one - one intrinsically linked with the intense political conversations the musician had found himself wrangling with during his recent studies.
“I always want whatever I’m making to emerge out of what I’m living and for it to help me understand how I’m living better, so going to policy school was certainly part of that artistic project as well as the ‘what do we fucking do?’ project,” he explains. “I jokingly say that I was radicalised at Harvard, which is basically true. I was in a mid-career programme, so there were 25-year-old geniuses but also people in their middle age who’d worked in the UN in Pakistan or the government in Mexico. They had this whole perspective of how fucked everything is across the whole globe so it was… educational.
As such, his second brims with a sense of palpable unease for a society that’s not only crumbling before our eyes right now, but has been doing so intermittently for decades and centuries. The twinkling, finger-clicking patter of ‘Close My Eyes’ belies the all-too-timely despair beneath it (“The photograph is new / But I seen that same headline, and I got to dance to keep from crying”), Randy Newman-esque closer ‘Fine’ digs right back to “George Washington and all his slaves,” while ‘Not Gonna Die’, he explains, was written in direct response to the November 2015 Bataclan shootings.“All these things hit different people in different ways, but that was so close to home,” he says. “It was Christmas after that and I was shopping in Manhattan; I walked into Sephora and it was super crowded and I thought, there’s a lot of people in here, where would I go [if something like that happened]? And I got so mad. It fucking worked. You made me scared. I’m not gonna die in Sephora on 5th Avenue but you made me think about it, you fucking pieces of shit.“Mike Pence was writing about it before he was running for Vice President, like, ‘We need to make sure we don’t have any immigrants come in because the immigrants can do this to us here’. And it’s like, I’m not gonna be killed by a woman fleeing violence in Guatemala!! The terrorists and the people saying ‘Be afraid!’: what you’re doing is working, and I AM afraid, and fuck you.”
Perhaps most interestingly, however, ‘Generations’ doesn’t just point the finger outwards, it also poses questions of the singer’s own inherent part in it all. “A big chunk of this record is asking: What’s my place in American history? What’s my place in America’s present?” he explained in a previous statement about the album. “Both in general, but also extremely particularly: me as Will Butler, rich person, white person, Mormon, Yankee, parent, musician. What do I do? What can I do?”
“It’s basically like, ‘My God, how did we get here?’ - that Talking Heads line,” he continues now. “The record is at times literally a conversation with people arguing back and forth, and there’s a lot of questions raised and the answers aren’t answers - you just end the conversation in a different spot. There’s something to that process of discussing and coming to some sort of revelation only to find out what’s lacking there, and then you move onto the next conversation and find out what’s lacking there. I was pleased that the material felt cyclical and of a piece, and you feel like you’re in a different spot than you were at the beginning.”
Because yes, his latest might not provide all the answers - “This is a musical work and I don’t know what the end notes are,” he admits - but ‘Generations’ does emphasise the importance of asking the questions and having the conversations, both with the world and with yourself. And if you can have them over an album of musically explorative, rich and often perversely funny new offerings? All the better.
Next, he’ll return to the fold to begin work on Arcade Fire’s sixth opus. Writing for that had originally started in New Orleans before the pandemic hit, but the band “don’t have the file management down to really do it at a distance,” he chuckles. “Win and Régine are always demoing and working, and I’ve done a little. We always work on a record for about a year and a half and we’re not off that pace yet, we’re still weirdly on track…”
You can bet by the time that record lands, he’ll have chalked up a handful of other accomplishments to his name, too; lord only knows the political battleground of the coming weeks will give him enough food for thought. And in the inquisitive mind of Will Butler, thought and curiosity are clearly the most nourishing tools of all. “You can write a love song that’s super true, but can you write a history song that also is? And if it comes out right and there’s some value in it, then what does that mean?” he muses. “It’s about just trying different angles to express something true.”
‘Generations’ is out now via Merge.
Butler’s Bits
‘Generations’ is undoubtedly an album rooted in politics and society - this much we know. But it’s also a record that digs into the musician’s relationship with other parts of the human experience…
HUMOUR “It’s a coping mechanism and it’s also a worldview. There’s not exactly a cabaret scene in New York but the comedy here is quite musical and there’s a lot of comedians that interact with people in interesting ways. They’re a bit younger than me - I’m the oldest millennial - but there’s something in that spirit that feels relevant.”
RELIGION “I grew up Mormon and I’m still ethnically Mormon. It’s like The Smiths song, ‘Meet Me At The Cemetery Gates’ - ‘Keats and Yeats are on your side, and Wilde is on mine’, you lose, haha. I’m sure Yeats is such a fucking asshole but that’s my heritage. The classic lineage of the Western canon is how I grew up.”
ADULTHOOD “I have three kids now, and it doesn’t make me worry about the future so much as it’s made me learn so much about humanity watching them - watching how it all goes into the ‘this is what humans are’ mill. On ‘Policy’, the protagonists are a motley crew of rag-tag whatevers, whereas this is much more a coming of age novel - not like a teenager becoming an adult, but an adult becoming a worse adult…”
