Reader plays for the Man City girls academy. She struggles a bit but gets Ruben to mentor her. The the two don't hit off despite having many things in common. It all gets worse when Reader eventually catches feelings for Ruben.
Enjoy!
You were on the floor in the guestroom, packing your suitcase.
"What are you doing?"
Ruben had returned to the apartment after you since the two of you obviously didn't go home together.
"What does it look like I'm doing?"
You packed your bag with haste, throwing your clothes in without folding them. Ruben's presence behind you did not disturb, it only fueld your anger.
"Are you leaving?"
A shadow was casted over your shoulder as he approached.
"Y/N, talk to me. Why are you packing your things?"
"Because, Ruben..."
You stood and made the attempt to shove him. But Ruben barley swayed as your palms hit his chest. However, his expression faltered as he was quite suprised to see tears streaming down your face.
"Y/N, what's wrong?"
"You're wrong Ruben. You've ruined my life, and don't even think about lying to me, Ester told me everything."
Ruben sighed, a hand running down his face before he folded his biceps in front of him. "I did it for us Y/N, you're friend was gonna tell the club officials, threatening to end both mine and your career with the club."
"So you threw mine under the bus by lying to the coaches on the first team, getting them to replace me with Ester. Ruben, there is no us in this, you did this for yourself, not caring what happened to me."
"Y/N." Ruben's sudden step forward made your heart clench. "You are to good to ignore." He said, eyes burning passionately for you. "I mean look at how you played today, there is no way the first team won't realize their mistake and let you back in. Yes, it might have been a gamble from my side but trust me, it's gonna pay off." Ruben's hand wighed heavily on your right shoulder, his thumb stroking gently across your collarbone. The touch was alluring, but you gather all strength to shrugged his hand away. "Ruben, not now or ever will I trust you again. I'm moving out."
"Come on Y/N, don't leave?"
You returned to your suitcase, snapping it shut. Turing back around, bag in your hand, you sighed seeing Ruben practically block the doorway. "Where are you gonna go huh? Back to Ester?" There was a hint of concern in his voice. "You can't leave in the middle of the night. I won't let that happened."
"Ruben, get out of my way."
"Y/N, I can't let you leave like this. At least let me make things right between us."
"Ruben, there is no us. You literally brought your girlfriend to fucking Cityzens Day."
"But I want to be with you."
He neither denied or confirmed the fact that the woman was his girlfriend. Maybe that's what hurt you the most.
"Welp....my feelings aren't mutual Ruben. Now get out of my way."
His hand stopped you as you made the attempt to leave. It made you lightheaded, his touch, among other things.
"Y/N." His voice was low. "I know how much you want me. I could see it today....on the pitch. You wanted me so bad."
"Yes, I wanted you Ruben. I wanted to beat you."
That was a lie, you wanted more. How did he know that you wanted more?
"Stop lying to yourself Y/N. You want me, just as much as I want you."
"I don't."
"Don't lie."
"I'm not."
He smiled. "Then why are you shaking?"
You were standing so close. Ruben's hand moved down to grab the suitcase from you, feeling how your body trembled against him. It wasn't because of the rage, but something more. You trembled because you held back from throwing yourself into his arms.
Ruben caught you with slight urgency, dropping the suitcase in the process. "You played so good today, so fucking good." He said.
"Yes, I was better than you."
He laughed into your mouth. "Don't push it."
There was nothing sensual about the way you devoured each other. In the process of kissing it look like the two of you tried to wrestle each other to the floor. Ruben grabbed your ass, lifting you up in the process. You wrapped your legs around his waist, your arms clinging onto the back of his neck, pressing his lips against yours. It was bruising kisses, sloppy and unprecise. You bounced in his arms as Ruben carried you down the hall, his mouth leaving hickies on your neck.
"I want to show you something." He mumbled.
"Yes, show me something, anything."
You threw your head back, offering Ruben to bury his face between your breast. He did so, teeth nipping your shirt in attempt to rip the fabric.
"Wait."
"Ruben, what is this?"
You draped your shirt over your head. Ruben's eyes glowed at the sight of your bra. "You're so perfect." He sighed and to your dissatisfaction he put you back down on the ground. Only now did you notice where he had taken you. "I've been wanting to show you this for a while...." Ruben fiddled for something in his pocket, a key. You stood in front of a door, THE door. He unlocked it, guiding you inside. It looked to be a spare chamber. It was poorly lit, however, you could outline a large bed in the corner and a fuzzy mat on the floor. There was also something hanging from the ceiling. Leather ropes.
He bent down, pressing his lips to the lobe of your ear, whispering the words. "My playroom."
You gasped, but not out of suprise. Standing behind you, Ruben had gone to unclasp your bra, letting it fall to the floor. The cold sensation over your chest errect your nipples, making them hard like pebbles.
"Sit. On you knees."
"So that's it then." You asked, not even suprise that Ruben found these sort of things exciting.
Ruben pointed to a spot on the floor. The fuzzy mat. You felt compelled to do as he said. You then watched Ruben cross the room, retrieving somthing from a drawer, a pice of fabric. A tie. "I'm gonna tie this over your eyes so that you can't see me. Then I'm gonna tie your hands to your back so that you can't touch me. And then your gonna let me fuck your mouth until you gag."
"I'm your mistress. I've been so all along."
"What?" He stretched out the tie between his hands.
"My what?" He chuckled.
"Your toy Ruben." It was so obvious. How hadn't you seen it earlier. The lies, the favors, and him practically keeping you here at his apartment. You were just a tool to him. "I'm your toy Ruben. Something you can play around with when you get board of your life, which seems to be very often. That's why you've kept me here in this apartment like some dog waiting to be walked. It can't be your only home. Where do you really live?"
He smiled, bringing the tie to your eyes. "You know....I really care for you Y/N. I still don't understand why you won't let me take care of you? There were others before you, not as desperate, but equally as naive. They wanted me to help them and so I did. It was a fare trade, nothing too complicated. But with you..." He tied the fabric behind your head, cutting off your view of his smug appearance. "I just can seem to figure you out. Is it just the football that drives you? In that case we are more alike than you think."
"I'm nothing like you."
"No."
"No?"
You heard the sound of his belt unbuckling, followed by his zipper.
"Who are you like then, Neymar?"
It was evil, his laugh. So evil. You felt so small, curled up on your knees. Ruben hadn't gone to tie your hands behind your back so if you wanted to you could remove the blindfold and just get up and walk out. However you didn't, you were that attached to him.
"Y/N?" You heard him sigh.
Thinks we're quiet around you. No movement and no efforts for Ruben to have his way with you.
"Fuck." He cursed.
Suddenly you could see again. Ruben had gone to remove the blind fold. He was standing before you, shirtless and a rock hard dick hidden beneath his unbuckled belt. "I won't fuck you if you're crying." He said, standing back, observing you disapprovingly.
"You let me leave, forget this ever happened."
"Gee thanks." You wiped your tears. Your legs were too numb for you to stand, but Ruben saw you make the effort and bent down to scoop you up in his arms, plotting you down on the bed.
"Now what?" He said.
"What if I don't want to forget you?"
You looked up at him and saw the slight conflict that was happening inside, how he really didn't want you to go. Perhaps apart of him did want you?
"Kiss me." You said, to which his eyes widened in suprise. Nevertheless, you did not have to tell him twice. "Not there." You flinched as Ruben leaned forward attempting peck your lips.
"Where?"
"Good boy."
Like a lost puppy he was pouting his lips. You fell back on your elbows, shifting one leg to the side to spread your thighs before him. "There." You smirked. "Kiss me there." Ruben's breathing rose with his excitement. You were letting him have you, but he was completely under your control.
He peeled down your jeans and got on his knees before the bed. Your hands tugged his hair with the first lick. He was rough, even with his tounge.
"Not like that." You whined. Ruben lifted his head from between your legs, his gaze foggy. "You don't like what I'm doing to you baby?"
"No, go slower."
He went down on you again, taking his time. The dimmed lights in the room fuled the pleasure running down your spine. You arched your back and hooked a thigh over Ruben's shoulder. He hymned in satisfaction, tasting the splurging pool between your legs.
You sat up, biting down on your lip. You could see the hunger in his eyes, how he could barley focus on anything but your aching breasts.
"Yes, right there Ruben. I'm gonna...I'm gonna." You melted into the bed, loosing all senses of yourself. Ruben got up from the floor, observing what had become of you.
"What now?" He asked, anticipating your answer.
"You want to suck them don't you?"
His head nodded slowly.
"Come here."
You perked up on the bed, arching your chest towards him. Ruben crawled towards you cautiously, like a lion, about to kill his pray.
"Sit." You ordered.
Ruben did just that, pausing all efforts to get to you. It turned him on, you could tell. You were challenging him, just like you had done on the football field.
"I won't let you suck them, I changed my mind."
He frowned, but did not move a muscles.
"Your gonna watch me." You said, resting your head against the pillows. "Watch me enjoy myself."
"Come here."
You couldn't help but to feel for Ruben as you tortured him by pleasing yourself.
"No." You hissed as his hand disappeared down his pants in effort to stop the throbbing twitch of his cock. "Not until I'm done." He watched you grind against your hand, pumping two fingers deep. Ruben lowered his head as if ashamed, as if defeated. You felt sorry for him. You stopped touching yourself.
He raised his chin, but did not look to believe you. Maybe you would deny him again.
"I want you, come."
He got closer to you on the bed but just as he could stretched out and touch you, you rolled over, giggling to yourself.
"That was fun. But yeah, I'm leaving."
You jumped down from the bed but got snatched back by the throat.
"Don't fucking play with me."
"Fuck me." You said. "As if it was the last time."
"Ruben." You cried. He held a thigt grip around your throat, pinning you down against the matress, with the help of his body weight. Pathetic, you thought. He could have you, but it would be the last time. Your hand went to caress the side of his face, scratching his bearded. Ruben's grip around your throat loosened but did not let go.
He caught your leg under his arm, folding it against your stomach as you opened up before him. His hands trembled pulling himself out of his pants. It would be quick, he was so hard. A sigh of satisfaction when he entered you. Two sloppy strokes and he was already moaning your name.
"I love you."
"You don't." You smiled. "But keep going. That feels good."
His hips thrusted against you with force, hitching your breath with every stroke.
He didn't, you thought. You were just two people. Two bodies. Tearing each other down.
Por favor Y/N, fique comigo, eu te amo. (Please Y/N, stay with me, I love you.)
Ruben collapsed on top of you with a loud groan. He fell asleep right after. Your bags were already packed and so you got up and left the apartment. Where you would go next you had no idea, but you were not giving up. You were not giving up on your dreams.
The End

Chapter 6 << Masterlist >> Epilogue
Tumblr media
Making a sensory deprivation tank wasn’t in your plans today, but here you were with the kids, Jonathan, Nancy, Joyce, and Hopper separating into teams to prepare it. You were paired with Joyce and Eleven to help her prepare for the tank.
“Where can we find goggles in this school?” Joyce asked you and you pointed to a classroom at the end of the hallway.
“That way is where the science classroom is. You will easily find goggles there. I’ll come find you after I get Eleven something to eat to regain some of her strength.”
You left Joyce and Eleven as you headed in the opposite direction towards the kitchen area. Walking through these halls made you almost nostalgic as you remembered your time spent here. It wasn’t any different than high school, kids were mean, and teachers were too strict, but right now you longed for the lost innocence of your old self.
You stepped into the kitchen and tried hard to find something a little edible in this nightmare of a kitchen. You ended up opening a refrigerator to find probably hundreds of puddings in there. You grabbed two of those and the cleanest spoon you could find and made your way back to the classroom where you found Joyce and Eleven sitting on two chairs facing each other. Joyce was busy covering the goggles with tape as you walked in, grabbed another chair, and sat down with them.
“Here, I hope it’s not spoiled.” you joked and opened the pudding for her and held it out for her along with the spoon. She sent you a small smile and started eating it. You turned your attention to Joyce who was just finishing up the goggles.
“You think this will be good enough?” she held them up for you to see.
“Yeah, they should be able to let her concentrate better.”
“Great…” she looked at Eleven for a moment. The girl was eating the dessert fast and before you knew it she was reaching for the other one. You both smiled at her, making you miss Joyce’s eyes now on you “Why didn’t you say anything?”
“Huh?” your head whipped in her direction.
“When you guys found her, you should have said something to us.” Joyce’s words were so sincere, it almost brought tears to your eyes.
You smiled and looked at her shaking your head a bit “You were focused on Will… And she looked so scared around me at the beginning, I didn’t want to bring more adults before we had completely gained her trust.” Joyce understood, but she still felt bad that you had to deal with all this before she learned more about this case. It was just her motherly instincts kicking in. Almost losing Will forever made her feel empty, and she didn’t want to feel it again with any of you.
“Just know that you can always come to me for anything.” her smile made your lips turn upwards as well, taking her hand in yours.
“I will.”
“Finished.” Eleven’s words pulled you towards her and you grabbed the empty cups, getting off your seat to go throw them into the bin. In the meantime, Joyce was talking to Eleven about the goggles.
“Okay, great. So, this should keep it dark for you. Just like in your bathtub.” she stopped for a moment to take a good look at the little girl “You’re a very brave girl. You know that don’t you? Everything you’re doing for my boy… for Will… for my family… Thank you.” you returned to your chair and watched as they held hands “Listen. I am gonna be there with you the whole time. We both will. And if it ever gets too scary in that place, just let us know, okay?” you nodded at her words and waited for El’s answer.
“Yes.”
“Ready?” you spoke up.
“Ready.”
The three of you made your way back to the gymnasium where the others had set up the pool. Everything was ready for her. You took your seat in between Dustin and Lucas as you all watched the young girl put on the goggles, enter the pool, and relax her body to float.
You can feel your anxiety kicking in, the silence around the room making it worse while you wait for something, anything to happen.
The lights started flickering above you before turning off completely, darkness surrounding you.
Not much time passed when Eleven’s voice filled the gymnasium and the lights started flickering again. But you didn’t care. Your entire focus was on Eleven and the word she whispered, the name ‘Barbara’.
“Is Barb okay? Is she okay?” Nancy asked, her voice filled with fear, begging for good news. But all of your hopes were let down when the girl before you started repeating the word ‘gone’ each time getting louder and louder. Tears filled your eyes as they fell to the ground. Your friend was gone, you would never see her again.
You could hear Joyce reassuring Eleven, her screaming easing down, but you still couldn’t look up, like a weight keeping your head down. A hand covered yours and squeezed it tight, pulling you out of your trance. Dustin was looking at you with his big eyes and you used your strength to nod, silently telling him ‘thank you’.
Both your heads turned back to Eleven who had now found Will at Castle Byers. The realization that at least Will was okay, allowed you to take a deep breath, blinking away the tears that had gathered underneath your eyes.
“You tell him… Tell him I’m coming. Mom is coming.” Joyce said to her and Eleven repeated the words. The static coming from the radio stopped for a moment when a single word came through.
“Hurry.” you gasped as you heard Will’s voice, weak and small, but it was his.
“Okay. Listen, you tell him to- to stay where he is. We’re coming. We’re coming, okay? We’re coming, honey.” Joyce was on the peak of tears after hearing her son’s voice.
You could hear Eleven reassuring Will when she suddenly stopped speaking, whimpers now only coming from the radio. El shot up from her lying position, breaking any connection with the Upside Down. She was crying but she was okay. Joyce took her in her arms and tried to calm her down.
The girl ended up cuddling in a blanket, sitting with the rest of the kids, while Hopper and Joyce started making plans, Jonathan helping them, when you realized that Nancy wasn’t in here with you, you silently made your way outside.
You found her outside the room, sitting on the ground and leaning her back on the wall, her knees brought up to her chest. She looked sad and lonely. You knew all you could offer her right now was just your presence. You couldn’t make her happy or less worried or angry at herself because you were in the same situation. You had both lost a friend, a best friend in Nancy’s case.
But the brunette didn’t care about words of empathy, she just didn’t want to be alone, so as soon as you sat beside her she hugged your form as tight as she could, praying that nothing else bad would happen to any of you.
Being in Nancy’s arms brought back all the emotions you felt when you heard the word ‘gone’ from Eleven’s mouth “I’m so sorry, Nance.” you fought back the tears in your eyes as you hugged her tighter.
“I’m sorry too.” her voice whispered in your ear.
You spent a good while just holding each other, your head ending up on her shoulder when Jonathan walked out of the gymnasium and spotted you. You watched as he made his way towards you and sat next to Nancy, the comfortable silence lasting for only a moment longer before Nancy spoke up.
“We have to go back to the station.”
“What?” you and Jonathan said in unison, your own head leaving the comfort of her shoulder as you sat up straight.
“Your mom and Hopper are just walking in there like bait. That thing is still in there. We can’t just sit here and let it get them too. We can’t.” you all knew she was right. Hopper and Joyce haven’t seen this thing and for all you could know more of these monsters could be down there. The least you could do was distract one of them, possibly, hopefully, even kill it.
“So, the plan’s still on?” you knew what the answer was going to be, but you had to make sure you were all on the same page.
“I wanna finish what we started. I want to kill it.” Nancy answered you.
___
You left without saying a word to the kids. You knew if you had gone back to the gymnasium, they would have wanted to join your task and there was no way in hell you were even having that conversation. So, you didn’t say goodbye to Dustin, which meant you also couldn’t die during this madness of a plan, because you really couldn’t leave without telling him a final goodbye.
Your first stop was at the station, taking back the stuff Hopper had taken out of Jonathan’s car. Then you headed straight to his house. The first thing on the plan was to put back on the bulbs of the hundred little Christmas lights Joyce had put up. After that, you had to take care of the weapon equipment. Nancy had her gun with her, but unfortunately for you, the Byers didn’t have any other weapons inside the house, so you decided to use that and help Jonathan get creative with the baseball bat they had, putting nails all over it. For your protection, you had a couple of knives that you carried with you. Sure, they were small, but you had good aim.
You watched Jonathan carefully place the bear trap in the hallway, helping him when he needed it. The final step was to pour gasoline all over the hallway, stopping just at the living room’s entrance where you placed a chair and the yo-yo that was connected all the way to Will’s room. After all the preparations, the three of you gathered around in a circle, each of you holding a knife.
“Remember.”
“Straight into Will’s room. And-” Nancy said before Jonathan spoke again.
“Don’t step on the trap.” your friend’s eyes fell on you.
“Wait for the yo-yo to move.” you finished and held his gaze.
“Then…” he lights up his lighter for just a second, before bringing his focus back on the task at hand “All right. You ready?”
“Ready.” you and Nancy say, holding up your blades, a small hint of apprehension rising inside you.
“On three. One. Two… You don’t have to do this.” Jonathan must have noticed your shaking hand closing in on your free palm.
“Jonathan, stop talking.” Nancy told him.
“I’m just saying, you don’t have to-”
“Three.” you said determined and you grazed your palm as much as you had to draw out blood, to draw the monster to you. Nancy and Jonathan followed along, and the room filled with your gasps of pain. You dropped the blade on the table next to you and rushed to grab the bandages, tightening them around your hand to stop the bleeding. Nancy came over to help you tighten the fabric around your hand, waiting for her own turn.
You weren’t sure how much time had passed when your thoughts were interrupted by a creaking sound.
“Did you hear that?” Nancy asked the three of you. She and Jonathan were sitting together on the couch as she was helping him with his cut. You were sitting on the opposite side of the room, playing with your blade after cleaning it, and calming yourself down before everything happened.
“It’s just the wind. Don’t worry.” he said to the both of you with a soft voice “My mom, she said the lights speak when it comes.”
“Speak?” Nancy questioned.
“Blink. Think of them as alarms.” he explained.
“Like when El uses her powers.” you thought out loud. Your eyes connected with Jonathan’s and his look made you stare back down on your hands. Mentioning Eleven’s name right now reminded you of everything you kept from them, from your friend who was so desperately trying to find his brother, oblivious to the fact that you knew the entire time. You felt guilty and embarrassed, but you swallowed down any unwanted feelings for now. The sudden knocking on the door certainly helped get your mind off of things as it startled all of you.
“Shit…” the curse left your lips while your heartbeat peaked up.
“Jonathan! Are you there, man? It’s… It’s Steve! Listen, I just want to talk!” Harrington’s voice was clearly heard through the door, only making you question whether it was true, or the gasoline had messed up with your head.
You turned to look at your friends, silently asking them what the hell are you gonna do now. His knocking wasn’t stopping, his voice was getting louder, and you couldn’t believe you were worrying about Steve’s well-being right now, but if you didn’t stop him right now there was a high chance your high school was going to have to find a new ‘King’.
So, Nancy quickly opened the door and tried to make him leave, keeping her answers short, which wasn’t making her dear Steve any less concerned. You and Jonathan kept quiet just waiting for this to be resolved, when Steve’s worried question made you pay more attention to the conversation happening by the door.
“Hey, what happened to your hand? Is that blood?”
“Nothing. It- It was an accident.” Nancy tried to dismiss him, but he wasn’t bulging.
“Hey, what’s going on?”
“Nothing.”
“Wait a sec. Did he do this to you?”
“No.”
“Let me in.” Steve pushed past her and stopped in his tracks as you and Jonathan came into view, as well as the hundreds of lights and the weapons lying around. Yeah, it didn’t look good on any of you “What is…”
“Get out of here.” Jonathan tried to push him back out, but Steve was strong enough to hold his position.
“Whoa. What is all-” he pointed around, but you really didn’t have time for his questions.
“Get out, Harrington.” you pointed towards the door.
“Listen to me, I’m asking you. I’m telling you, get out of here!” Jonathan was still pushing him back, but still to no avail.
“What is that smell? Is that gasoline?” you and Jonathan continued your yelling, failing to make the famous jock leave, when Nancy’s voice grabbed your attention from behind.
“Steve, get out!” you turned around only to find the end of Nancy’s gun pointed to Steve. You took a step back letting her handle the situation.
“Wait, what? What is going on?” the guy looked startled as he watched the high school sweetheart with a gun.
“You have five seconds to get out of here.” Nancy told him.
You watched the scene unfold before you, Nancy starting her countdown when the flickering of light caught your attention, your eyes widening with realization.
“Guys.” you called out, slightly hitting Jonathan’s arm to get his attention, pointing up at the lights.
“Nancy.” he tells her, but she’s too focused to hear you.
“Wait. What- what is this?” Steve asked, terrified over what was happening before him.
“Nancy!” you screamed.
“Nancy, the lights!” Jonathan finally managed to get her attention “It’s here.”
“Wait, what’s here?” Steve said.
“Where is it?” Nancy completely forgot about Steve as she walked next to the two of you. Your backs faced each other, creating a circle so you could have a clear view of the room before you.
“Where is what? Whoa! Easy with these!” Steve exclaimed when he saw you use your weapons out for defense. He was watching everything happen before him and did not understand a thing. Why were you all here? Why were you all hurt? Why did you have weapons? And what were you looking for?
“Where is it?” Nancy asked again, getting impatient.
“I don’t know. I don’t see it.” Jonathan said.
While your eyes were moving everywhere at once, trying to find a glimpse of the monster and ignoring Steve’s cry for an explanation, you saw specks of dust falling in front of you, making you look up. Suddenly, with a loud thud, the creature appeared from the ceiling “There!” you pointed.
Nancy started firing at the creature but Jonathan was already grabbing her, yelling for all of you to start running. With quick breaths, you began walking backward following your friends, but Steve’s still body made you stop. You grabbed his hand, tagging him along with you. You both started running, quickly telling him to jump over the bear trap, only letting go of each other when you entered the room and Jonathan closed the door.
“Jesus! Jesus! What the hell was that? What the hell was that?” Steve was panicking and yelling at the three of you, but right now it wasn’t the time to draw any more attention to you, so you collectively decided to tell him to ‘shut up’ while you waited to see what the monster was going to do.
You could hear shrieking from outside so you took your position with your blade out before the door next to Nancy and Jonathan, who had the lighter ready, waiting for the yo-yo to give him the signal to drop it. The plan was for the Demogorgon to trap itself in the bear trap and then light up the hallway, so it would burn up.
So, you stood there, hearing it walk around the house, panting as you prayed to hear the trap go off, but nothing was happening.
“What’s it doing?” Nancy asked you.
“I don’t know.” Jonathan answered.
The flickering lights returned to normal when you noticed that the house was now too quiet.
“Can you hear it?” your voice was small, dreading any type of answer you would receive.
Jonathan just muttered no. He put his lighter back in his pocket and carefully opened the door, each of you going out one by one. You looked around the house, expecting to find it hidden in a corner, ready to sneak up on you, but it was nowhere to be found.
You let yourself relax for a moment, your knees almost giving up as you crouched down in exhaustion. But, of course, you couldn’t even have a moment to yourself since Steve had started panicking again, yelling how this was all crazy. You stood up when you saw him grab the phone to call for help, but Nancy was quick to stop him, throwing it on the floor.
“What are you- What are you doing? Are you insane?”
“It’s going to come back. So, you need to leave. Right now.” she instructed him.
The guy was frozen for a moment, looking around the trashed living room and glancing at Jonathan and you for confirmation. It didn’t take long for him to understand how serious all of this was, scrambling to take his car keys out when he fled to the door.
A few moments after the door closed behind him, the lights started acting up again “Get ready.”
You held the same position as before, looking around the room to spot it. Nancy’s adrenaline was making her ramble about where the hell it was, while Jonathan’s impatience was getting the best of him as he was now ordering the creature to show itself. You just stayed silent, trying to realize where it was going to appear.
Suddenly the lights went out and a growl was heard from behind you.
“Jonathan!” Nancy screamed for the boy’s name as the Demogorgon attacked him, sending him to the floor, the bat falling from his grasp, leaving him helpless as the creature climbed on top of him.
“Nancy, shoot it!” you yelled, and she responded quickly, the sound of shots filling your ears.
“Go to hell, you son of a bitch!”
The Demogorgon rose from the ground, the bullets doing little to no damage as it began closing in on Nancy. You just watched in horror for just a moment, watched as Nancy continued firing at it, but when she ran out of bullets, you took it as your cue to help her out. You take a deep breath and aim the blade at it. Luckily for you, it successfully landed on its back, making it shriek in pain. Unluckily for you, it didn’t do enough damage to stop it from coming towards you.
It felt like time was moving in slow motion when the abandoned bat caught the corner. The adrenaline inside you told you, you could make it, you could grab it and beat the creature with it. But your fate was decided for you when it clawed the carpet from under your feet, sending you to the floor.
You thought this was it. You hopelessly laid on the floor watching the monster approach. Its petal-shaped mouth opening up, revealing hundreds of teeth ready to demolish you. Your eyes closed waiting for the impact, and it did come, it just wasn’t for you.
You opened your eyes to see none other than Steve Harrington swinging Jonathan’s bar effortlessly, avoiding any contact the Demogorgon tried to make and in return landing every swing he made. You watched him in awe, tears prickling in your eyes as the realization of not dying caught up to you.
Nancy was helping you get back on your feet when a snapping sound caught your attention.
“He’s in the trap! He’s stuck!” Steve yelled and Nancy screamed for Jonathan to do it now.
He goes over to the poured liquid on the carpet and drops his lighter, fire igniting in the hallway, the monster screeching in pain. The heat burned your face, so you shielded it with your arm. You saw Jonathan grab the fire extinguisher as he instructed you to get back before firing it.
After a few seconds, the fire was out, smoke filling your lungs and making you cough. As it cleared out, the four of you started walking forward to see the damage, Steve next to you still holding the bat ready to defend all of you. But you quickly realized that once again, it had disappeared.
“What…” you mumbled under your breath.
“Where did it go?” Nancy asked.
“No. It has to be dead. It has to be…” Jonathan was panting, frustration filling his entire body.
You put a comforting hand on his shoulder when you notice the Christmas lights before you light up one by one. In fear you all backed away slowly, nearing the end of the hallway when they stopped approaching you and started lighting up in the opposite direction. Steve, who was now shielding the rest of you with his body and the bat, began following after them, which made you all follow after him slowly.
The lights lead you back to the living room and you all look at them nearing the front door. Jonathan moves a bit ahead of the rest of you, muttering something before you all follow the lights outside of the house.
You stand on the porch watching the streetlamp flicker for just a moment, then return back to its normal state.
“Where’s it going?” Nancy asked.
“I don’t think that’s the monster.” Jonathan simply answered as you all stood in silence catching your breath and hoping you did enough to help Joyce and Hopper out.

✨ chapter sixteen ~ you deserve everything and more | wc: 1.4k
The rehearsal dinner was a success. You were relieved that that part was over, but the wedding was only in the next few weeks. Then the real festivities would really begin. This was only a tiny piece of the bigger puzzle.
You began to clear out the décor sitting on the table and put them back in their boxes as someone approached you from behind.
"Hey," a voice chimed in.
You gazed up at the tall, handsome man with a soft smile. "Hey, Jin." He really did look dashing in a suit and tie.
Jin crossed his arms, leaning against the table. "I loved your speech, but I'm slightly offended that I didn't get asked to do one."
Along with Yuna and Namjoon's parents, you were the only one to give a speech. You laughed at his remark. He was a jokester, wasn't he? Imagine if you'd gone out on that date with Jin instead of going home with Jungkook.
"I'm sure they wanted to save your speech for the wedding reception. I think it'd make more of an impact," you chuckled, shaking your head.
"Ah–you're probably right. That's better for me so I can charm more people," he grinned, sending a wink. He uncrossed his arms, holding his weight on the table.
You stopped to look at him. "Are you always like this?"
Jin nodded. "Yes."
You continued cleaning, and Jin helped by picking up some things.
"So...how are things with you and Jungkook?" The handsome man was intrigued by your relationship with his young friend. He'd only known Jungkook for a short period, but he grew to care for him like his brother. Jin could tell Jungkook was utterly head over heels for you. The constant pouting and groaning at work was a good indicator of his broken heart.
"Oh--um, I don't know. I haven't spoken to him for a few weeks now." You weren't lying, minus the short conversation from earlier tonight. You had kept your distance for fear of your feelings growing deeper if Jungkook became more persistent.
"I see. You should talk to him. I'd hate to see you guys not have a chance to try and work things out."
You didn't know Jin well, but you were surprised by his sudden advice. You wondered if Jungkook persuaded him to say something to you.
"That's sweet of you, but I don't know if things will work out between us." You'd thought long and hard about the two of you. The nine-year age gap, especially with an older woman pursuing a younger man, wasn't unheard of, but it certainly wasn't common. Your mind swirled at the thought of judgmental stares and whispers. You didn't think you could handle it.
He came over and handed you a handful of clothed napkins that he was collecting. "He's not a man of many words, but he loves his job and food and you more."
Tumblr media
After most family and friends left, you hoped Jungkook was still around. You were searching for him and bumped into Yuna.
"Hey. Are you leaving?"
"Yeah, I'm heading back with Joon."
"Okay. Have a good night," you said as you were ready to return in the other direction to find Jungkook.
The two of you had little interaction since dinner tonight. She and Namjoon were busy mingling with the crowd while you were running around like a chicken with your head cut off to ensure everything would go smoothly.
"Y/n--wait."
You stopped in your tracks, turning back around. "Yeah? What's up?"
Yuna tucked a stray hair behind her ear. Nervously, she said, "I, um, just wanted to say thank you for tonight and thank you for the speech. I know it was last minute, and I put you on the spot."
"Oh--it's fine. It was easy to whip something up about you and Namjoon. I just spoke from the heart." You loved watching your best friend fall in love. She and Namjoon were perfect together - cheesy to say, but they really did complete each other.
"...um, have you and Jungkookie decided what you guys are?"
After Namjoon knocked some sense into her, Yuna felt terrible about how she handled everything with you and Jungkook. She was too hasty and rash. She wasn’t thinking about you and everything you were going through. She was only thinking of her baby brother. So, she hoped that the two of you would work things out.
"It's been a while since I've spoken to him, but I told him I couldn't be with him because I respect our friendship and love you too much."
Yuna inched closer and took your hands in hers. "Y/n, I love you, but I can see how much this is hurting the two of you, and I can't bear seeing you guys like this. I'm sorry I overreacted and was a bitch about everything but you two deserve to see if this is worth fighting for.”
"That's what I'm scared of, Yuna. What if it doesn't work out? What if all of this was for nothing? What if I'm not everything he thought I was? What if I break his heart again?"
Your mind would always wander off to the worst possible scenarios. You had already broken Jungkook’s heart, and if the two of you tried to date and it didn’t work out? Then you’d lose both Yuna and Jungkook.
"Y/n, stop talking yourself out of it. You won't know unless you try."
"I love you. You're my best friend. I never wanted to come between you and Jungkook. I'm sorry I put you in a difficult position. I should have talked to you about it first. I was scared because I didn't know how you'd feel about us. And honestly, I'm still scared. I don't want to disappoint you or him."
"You could never disappoint me."
You looked over her shoulder as he approached you. "Jungkook…"
"I'll leave you guys. Bye." She pulled you in for a hug and whispered, "Go get 'em, tiger."
You smiled as you pulled back. Jungkook stood there with his eyes twinkling in the moonlight, his hair swooped perfectly to the side of his face, and a grin slowly spreading from ear to ear.
"Hi,” you uttered with a sheepish smile.
"Hi."
"Don't be so sure that I can't disappoint you. I think I've done that plenty recently.” You weren’t sure how many chances you’d get before you struck out.
He shook his head no and took a step closer to you. "Mm, I think you just needed some time away from us to figure out some things. Do I wish you would have kept me in the loop? Yes, but I understand."
"I don't deserve someone like you."
His hands reached to caress your cheeks, and you leaned into them. It had been so long since you'd felt his touch. You closed your eyes, savoring this sweet moment.
"Y/n, you deserve everything and more."
You softly chuckled and smiled. "You're too good to me."
Jungkook grinned. "I know."
"Never mind. I'll take it back."
"No takebacks!"
"I'm leaving then."
"That's too bad because I'm never letting you go. You're stuck with me forever."
"Forever, huh?"
He smiled and nodded. "That's if you want to."
"I guess if I'm stuck with you forever, then I should have some fun."
His eyes perked up when he heard you. "What kind of fun? Like fun, fun ?" he smirked.
"Oh god, Kook, that's the first thing you think about?"
"That's all I've been thinking about. Do you know how goddamn sexy you are?"
You rolled your eyes.
"What? And you haven't?"
"Um, I may have thought about it on occasion." You may have rubbed one out every night since he’s last touched you. He was too goddamn sexy not to think about his hands roaming all over you.
" Ohh --I see. So, should we do something about it?"
You were trying to push him away playfully, but he pulled you in closer, smiling as he locked his lips with yours. At this moment, you didn't care who was still around or who could see the two of you. You were with the one you wanted, the one you needed - encapsulated and enchanted with each other's presence. You never wanted to let go of him. Who would have thought you and your best friend's little brother?

monthly wrap-up :: may 2023
Welcome to smth I’m gonna try this month: a wrap-up! I’ll be giving you all a lil recap of the fics I’ve read & written over the last month and hopefully this will get me to actually chip away at my TBR and get y’all on some non-Loki/Tom stories that I occasionally do read 🫡
Everything under the cut
Tumblr media
Loki x Reader
Don't Be Shy by @lokisgoodgirl
The way that shy Loki being nervous about not satisfying Agent Y/N has me running around in circles in my living room I can't 🫠🫡
Hostile F*cks: Public Relations by @lokisgoodgirl
A perfect epilogue to this series that was a masterclass of holding your emotions hostage and giving the best payoff. And the fencing pants got a return cameo?? This had me giggling and squeeing and the second the fencing pants came out to play…running laps once again 🫠
An Interesting Theory by @infinitystoner
Completely obsessed with the dynamic between Loki & Reader in this piece. And the ending with Loki deciding that he needs more "data" to "confirm the hypothesis"? I see you, Mischief 😏🫠
The Prince is Dead by @lokisgoodgirl
The beginning had me all teary eyed and ready to fight; the end had me filled with hope and chortling at the tasteful dick joke. LGG really do be a master at holding our emotions hostage with a satisfying payoff at the end 🥹 I live in fear thinking what she could be capable of if she ups and decides to make a piece of just pure angst 😳👀
A Gentlemen's Agreement by @lokisgoodgirl
This had me having some good reminiscing moments of back when I was a Steve girly for a few months in 2015 and also deciding that Bucky's a second simp subject. Distant second, but a second nonetheless. The fact that there's even a second got me doing the Blinking Man at myself--
She is Beauty, She is Grace, She Will Stab You in the Face by @clandestineloki
The adorable dynamic between them when he caught her and saved her from tripping?? Her singing Hamilton without a care in the world? Their whole exchange in the jet after she offed 3 henchmen for hurting her mans?? I love them, your honor.
A Lesson on Behaving by @multifandom-worlds
Reader edging Loki and "suffering" the consequences? With a brief cameo from besties Nat & Wanda trying (and failing hilariously because Reader tried to go and get a snack) to hide her from said consequences? Sign me up and don't expect to be able to contact me for the next few hours because I need to recover from the smut 🥵🫠
Tom Hiddleston x Reader
Under Your Spell by @holdmytesseract
A Model AU where Reader's a photographer and she's been hired to do an underwear shoot for Calvin Klein…and Tom's tatted and pierced and--and--*melts on the spot* 🫠 Head empty all thots…that is all 😮‍💨
Bucky Barnes x Reader
shouldn't have gone by @imyourbratzdoll
This had me clutching at my heart going "why would he do this to Reader what the hell"…like no joke I needed a good few mins to start breathing right and not in the fun I just read toe curling smut way. I mean in the "If I try now I might start crying" way 🥲
Ari Levinson x Reader
Like a Broken Record by @howdoyousleep3
Ari with a plus size reader making her feel so empowered & beautiful in bed? The “I’m keeping you” vibe?! This had me 100% completely deceased when I read it while I was out doing groceries (bc y’all know me I should know better than to read smut in public but I never do and I might never will lol).
self-conscious ask by @imyourbratzdoll
This one hit me so close to home and honestly where can I get a boyfriend like this I would very much appreciate one 🥺💖
Give Me One More by @saiyanprincessswanie
This character + this trope = Ally dead in the water. Thank you and goodnight I am not available for comment at this time 🫡
Natasha Romanoff x Reader
Fall Kiss by @animnerd
Besties becoming lovers after months apart and having some fluffy wholesome fun on a pile of leaves before having their first kiss? Lemme melt in my spot real quick aaaaaa
Clark Kent/Superman x Reader
It Got Worse by @hannibals-favourite-meal
Clark being a soft lil simp for his fiance while her brother Bruce has a hilarious mix of "I'm happy their happy" and "Why did I ever set them up" is such an adorable dynamic and I need more 🥹
Tumblr media
Loki x Reader
rules of conduct: the checkout queue
Thomas Sharpe x Reader
the final Lady Sharpe part 2: a risky endeavor

Tumblr media
You’ve settled into camp nicely over the last few weeks, and you don’t think you’ve ever been happier. You’ve been slowly getting less shocked when people are nice to you, when other people there want you to spar with them or sit with them at meals. A lot of kids from Aphrodite cabin have even come to you for makeup and fashion tips, raving about how obsessed they are with your whole look. You’ve been happy to introduce them to goth and alt fashion (with the appropriate music recommendations to go along with it, of course), and surprisingly, they’ve been happy to listen. You keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, waiting for something bad to happen, but it just… doesn’t. You’re starting to suspect that maybe things here aren’t too good to be true, maybe they’re just… good.
The horizon is clear for the first time in your life. Literally. With the weather magic surrounding the camp, there’s not a sunrise or sunset you’ve missed since you came here. Your favorite part of camp is how much time you get to spend with Leo, and his friends who are now your friends, too. Sneaking past the cleaning harpies to a bunker in the woods is a little harder than sneaking down a hall, but you’re both making it work. You’ve had to incorporate more orange t shirts and light weight clothes into your daily style, but even though you were sure you’d hate it, you don’t mind too much. Like so many other aspects about living at camp, it’s nicer in practice than you initially thought it would be. A lot nicer. You’re reluctant to admit it, but you actually love it here.
However, in spite of all the newly positive things happening in your life, there’s something that’s been bothering you, worming around in the back of your mind. Your memories are still gone, and there’s still a box under your bed taped shut, claiming to contain the bad ones. It warns you not to open it, and if it wasn’t written in your own handwriting, you’re sure your curiosity would have gotten the better of you by now. But even a warning from your past self can’t keep it at bay forever. You’re starting to wonder. You’re so happy now, happier than you’ve ever been, so what sitting inside that box could possibly be bad enough to ruin that? You’re not one to think in such a naive way, but after putting it off for as long as you can, your curiosity and impulsivity finally get the better of you.
As you carefully open the box, taking care not to rip it, you sit on the floor next to your bed. The rest of your cabin is empty as usual, so you don’t mind laying out the contents on the floor as you pick through it. Your hand shakes as you pull out memorabilia one by one, laying them around you to assess. There’s some drawings, a few pictures, and a letter addressed to you. It’s only when you take each item out that you’re suddenly overwhelmed with the deepest sadness and heartache you’ve ever experienced. All of your memories, everything in your past that you’ve been running from comes back to you. Your chest and arms and stomach all hurt with the pain coursing through you. Your breathing is heavy and out of control as you open the letter addressed to you. Tears blur your vision before falling down onto the worn paper.
“Hey, are- hey…” You hear Leo’s voice behind you change, suddenly flooded with concern once he hears you crying. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you remember that you had plans to meet up with him before sword fighting. You suppose you must have lost track of time. You don’t say anything, but you don’t need to yet. He runs right over to you, sitting next to you on the floor, and pulls you into his arms without a second thought. Sobs wrack through your body as he holds you close. Your hands shake, still clutching the letter, now adorned with little tear stains along the corner.
“Hey, it’s okay… it’s okay…” He says, rocking you in his arms and rubbing your back. “It’s okay, I got you.”
After a while, your sobs turn into sniffles, your breathing levels out, your heart ache eases. He holds you tight while you cry, and he’s so warm and reassuring. Once you feel a little better, you hand him the letter. Leo skims through it, his eyes darting over the flowy red handwriting. It’s from Eros, introducing himself as your real dad. Most of it’s pretty standard, he explains about being a demigod, and how that’s been the reason behind most of the hard things you’ve gone through. He tells you about the powers children of Eros usually have - including a heads up about the wings. After that, he tells you he knows about all the hardships you’ve experienced because of not knowing you’re a demigod.
I’ve sent this letter along with a magic box from Hermes. Anything you place within this box, you’ll forget about until you take it out again. I hope this can help you transition smoothly into life at camp, and make things a little easier for you until someone from camp half blood comes to pick you up.
That’s pretty much it, the rest is just Eros waxing poetic about love and sex. Leo folds up the letter, tucking it back in the envelope, and continuing to rub your back.
“It’s okay, it’s okay.” He presses a kiss to your hairline, and it’s quiet for a moment.
“You don’t have to deal with this all at once, you know. You can start with something small, take your time with it.”
You let out a shuddering sigh, and he can tell you’re starting to calm down.
“And you don’t have to be ready right now. Do you want to put some of this back?” His words sink in, and you nod, not trusting yourself to talk yet. “Yeah? Okay, let’s put this stuff back.”
Your hands shake as you tuck everything back in the box, just like you found it. With each item that goes back inside, you can feel yourself forgetting more and more. The pain subsides as you stare into space, your mind going blank for a moment as memories fall away beneath you. You look at the letter from your dad. He doesn’t mention anything that happened to you, he doesn’t go into detail about any of that. Leo’s words echo in your mind.
You can start with something small.
You stand up on shaky legs, and tuck the letter under your pillow. Fatigue wracks through your body, and you feel like the fragile calmness after the wake of a hurricane. You look at the corner of the envelope, and take a deep, shaky breath. In that moment, you give yourself permission to only think about it, to only read it again when you feel like you’re ready. Leo walks up behind you, and rests his hand on your waist.
“You okay?” His voice is soft when he asks, and you take a moment to consider.
“Yeah.” You state, breaking the silence. “I am.”
It’s the first time in a long time that you’ve been able to say that truthfully.
“Are you ready to go kick Will’s ass at archery practice?” He asks with a smile, getting a chuckle out of you. He brushes his thumbs across your cheeks a few times, wiping away the dark makeup streaking down from your eyes. You let out a chuckle.
“Yeah.” You nod. “I’m ready.”
He wraps his arm around you, and you leave your cabin. You walk toward the archery range, and take in a big, deep breath of camp air. It’s naturey and refreshing, and with every breath, you feel a little better. Your mind wanders back to the letter, but as you watch other campers and nature spirits meander around, laughing and joking together as they talk, it really sinks in. You’re safe now. You can take your time with stuff like this now, you can go at your own pace. There’s no rush, not anymore.

The one where it takes Thomas a year, please :))))
...and no one was surprised at your choice haha, but I'm far from complaining since it's one of my favourites as well, so thank you for letting me talk about it 🥰
this one is the first Thomas fic I ever wrote, I remember thinking the others were easier to write for at first but then something clicked in my brain with Thomas and this story (and many many other ideas!) evolved out of that
I really enjoy stories that have some kind of concept and I played with the idea of cycling through some sort of time frame before and as I started thinking about this one, it just seemed to make sense to chronicle them going through a year of ups and downs
Obviously that's also where the title stems from because as much as the ups in this can be great, it really does take Thomas a full year to commit to this relationship
I did like the idea of throwing y/n into the situation with no idea about any of them and simply being enamoured with seeing Thomas exactly the way he is
I also like how straight from the beginning there's a sort of alienation also because she can't keep up with his Italian and not keeping up seems to be a minor theme in general
Also I very purposely used a bit of different style of story telling and excluded all direct speech and I think it definitely works in this context
I played a lot with mirrored scenes here as well, and I quite like how it turned out, for example the end of January with her leaving him there followed by February where he's doing the same to her
Also, I'm not sure why, but I really enjoy the short scene of them having sex on the balcony, I think that's something I could write pages about (maybe I should)
As for the other three, I didn't want to go the picture perfect route of them just loving her unconditionally immediately because as much as I think they're absolutely capable of that, they'd also be fiercely protective of their friends
May is very much about the realisation that you might want different things and the disconnect happening between them emotionally and how they're just not talking clearly about what they want
I also found it important to highlight that even though Thomas is super close with his band mates, he very much doesn't tell them everything and in fact may hide things, reasons for this are open to speculation but I have my own
Again, with the mirroring of scenes, in June I maker her leave him in the morning but I think it's quite a contrast to his behaviour because she seems to do it with a much heavier heart
The August chapter was a little painful to write, because as much as she had been aware that they were far from perfect and that their expectations of their time together kept diverging further and further, to actually catch him with someone else in what seems like a bleak proof that none of what they had was special was... ouch
I also made Vic interject here because I think she loves her friends very much but she's also not one to shy away from telling them when they fuck up
I quite like what I did for September in October, it's a very simple structure that hopefully mirrors the way she feels in those days, there's little contrast in those two months that suggest it's getting better (or is it getting worse?) but still shows she's very stuck
When he apologises in November I really wanted to make sure she didn't forgive him too quickly because I wanted this story to feel honest and not like a quickly-written, barely-planned-out, unrealistic type of romcom where one sentimental gesture and an apology makes everything okay
It's also why they don't have sex that night because Thomas needed to prove that he's in this for the right reasons, for her, and not leave a single doubt about him potentially only being after the physicality of it
December feels a bit like an epilogue and I hope I didn't wrap the story up too quickly but I quite like this part either way because yes, things are good, and yes, there's love in the air and it's fluff but it still feels real and fragile, only in a more positive light this time around
Anyway, I still love this story with all my heart and I really want to write something like this again, I just need to figure out how and what makes this story (is it the style? the concept? the content?) so I can get the feeling back and put it in more fics 💕

Your fingers tapped rhythmically against the table, an indicator of the nervousness that was building to a crescendo in your chest.
“Are you sure you wanna do this?” he asked, hand placed gently on your forearm.
You nodded, eyes downcast. If you looked at him, you wouldn’t be able to find it in yourself to follow through with it.
“I am,” you said quietly, swallowing to get rid of the lump in your throat.
“Okay,” he confirmed, letting his arm drop gently.
Ten minutes to go. You took a sip of water nervously. The glass had already found itself shifting back and forth on the table in search of the perfect place. It was a fruitless quest anyway.
The door was painted a dark green, steps leading up to it from the pavement.
“Are you sure he won’t mind?” you asked quietly, standing a stair below him in apprehension. Neither of you had contacted him or sent a message, just showed up at his place exhausted and covered in a thin layer of dirt.
“I know he won’t.” Sam raised his fist to knock thrice, a pause before knocking two more times.
A code.
He turned around slightly, checking to see if you were fine. The longer you stood out there, the more afraid you were of someone spotting the both of you, putting an end to your life before it even began. You had a feeling that paranoia would continue for a long time.
The door swung open, revealing a tall man with blonde hair leaning against the doorway with one arm. There was a nick above his eyebrow, an old scar that hadn’t faded over time. Even though his other hand was concealed behind the door, you could tell that he was holding something by the way his muscles were clenched. Years of training wouldn’t disappear overnight.
"Sam." Surprise overtook his face in a second. "You're alive."
"Don't sound so happy, I can't handle it." Sam rolled his eyes, an affectionate smile on his face. "This is Y/N, we need a place to stay."
“It’s just been a while since I heard from you, man. Coming from a hit?” Riley didn’t think twice about moving aside, scrutinising dried blood on your person as you walk past. “Nice to meet you, I’m Riley.”
It was a cane in his hand. Sam’s mention of his limp flashed in your mind.
You gave him a small wave and a quiet re-introduction of yourself, following Sam into the house.
“You could say that.” Sam paused, a hand on Riley’s shoulder as he says something out of your ear shot to him.
Riley’s face turned stoic immediately, a nod of his head and a deep exhale soon following. “Stay as long as you need.”
“Thank you.” You pressed your lips together in a straight line with a corner quirked upwards, a half smile of sorts.
“Bathroom’s down the hall, to the right.” He pointed out the direction. “I’m getting you some food. Gumbo still your thing, Wilson?”
“Anything other than peanut butter.”
Riley was a blessing you could have never prepared for; knowing exactly what you both would need and anticipating emotions you had no idea you’d be feeling. For someone who had guests show up completely uninvited to crash on his couch, he was ready as ever, given that he had been through the same thing a while ago.
It was difficult. Fuck that, it was one of the hardest things to go; not pretending like everything around you would fall into soon and that you would be fine because you had to. You had worked too damn hard for you not to be.
But you knew things weren’t going to be fine right off the bat and it would be foolish to think it was.
“Sam, look at me,” you commanded gently, but there was an edge of firmness to your tone. You were sitting on the bench near the entrance of the park.
“I’m sorry, things were going good and I thought-” He shook his face that was hiding in his palm, elbows resting on his knees.
His attacks didn’t come nearly as frequently as yours. It was easy to think that he had no trauma just because he learnt how to deal with it better.
“Look at me, Sammy.” It was just a walk in the park, a stroll that should have lasted twenty minutes tops. You had been on that trail before for the same purpose but something triggered him today, someone’s gaze who lingered too long on the both of you.
He clenched his fists, lifting his head to meet your gaze.
“Breathe with me.” You exaggerated the movements to have him follow, a system the both of you had come up with when anxiety attacks used to hit at random. A temporary solution to an aftermath that would go on for hours, days even.
It took him a few staggered breaths to get there, finally falling into routine with you. He could feel his heartbeat slow to what it was but the pit in his stomach wouldn’t subside for a while.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t-”
“You have nothing to apologise for,” you reassured, still making sure he was breathing with you. You were nervous too and your eyes were still darting about to survey your surroundings, but he needed you at that moment. “We’re safe. We’re okay.”
“No one’s here,” he mumbles, interlacing your fingers and bringing it to his forehead to lean against your hand.
“We’re okay,” you repeated, giving him the space he needed. “We’re okay.”
“Will someone be joining you?” The waiter prodded softly. If it wasn’t your incessant tapping at the table, the clammy palms and constant checking of your watch was a clear giveaway that you could use a bit of kindness that day.
“Yeah, any minute now.” You smiled at her. She simply nodded, refilling your glass of water before leaving you alone.
You looked at your watch and sighed.
Seven minutes.
Things were fine. Things were good.
Sam and you were… undefined. Labels almost seemed too constrictive for now and it wasn’t like the both of you didn’t know what the other felt. It was kind. It was soft. Sometimes you kissed his cheek when the sunlight bounced off his face while he watered the succulents and the smile he gave you was addictive. Other times he snaked an arm around your waist and leaned his head on your shoulder while you watched the street from the kitchen window.
It made you happy, and so you tried to force away the stem of doubt that creeped into your heart.
Riley had introduced the concept of movie nights and the occasional mob movie would make it in there just to poke fun at. He showed you around the city, inviting you to go grocery shopping with him at the farmers market, the best places to get a glimpse of the music scene or to subtly point out potential date night spots.
He was a genuinely nice guy, and if you thought Sam was fun to hang out with, you were not prepared for the both of them together. You could tell why Sam adored him.
“Y/N, I don’t know how you stayed with him for all that time and didn’t murder him in his sleep.” Riley glared at Sam who had once again left his collection of music CDs strewn around on a couch. It was all in jest; it was well known that Sam found an anchor in music that kept him up late at night for a sense of calm.
“It was a close call sometimes,” you added playfully, giving Sam a grin.
“You weren’t exactly easy to survive with either.” He scoffed. “How many times did we watch Megamind in a row? Eight?”
“You wouldn’t stop watching Die Hard,” you accused, arms crossed over your chest. “It was payback.”
“You made the rule saying we couldn’t watch things more than twice in a row and you broke it first.”
“I’m gonna go,” Riley interjected. “But y’all keep at this. I heard it’s good for your soul.”
“Stay there,” Sam demanded, pointing to where he was standing a second ago. “You’re gonna be play judge since you started this shit.”
“I really don’t want to.” He shook his head, staying put nonetheless, amusement clear as day on his face.
“The laundry.”
“The dishes.”
You both narrowed your eyes at each other. His argument didn’t hold a match to yours.
“You know what, I was wrong,” Riley announced to no one in particular. “I’m pretty sure you guys would kill each other under any other circumstance.”
The smile on your face faltered but you straightened it back out with a clearing of your throat before firing a comeback.
It was barely a second, almost unnoticeable. But Sam caught it.
Four minutes.
Almost time.
The tapping became more intense, and the rate at which you pulled out your phone to check the time increased.
Fuck, this was a bad idea. How were you supposed to behave with him after all this time?
Something was wrong. Something was off.
Sam wasn’t blind to it. He could see it under the smile you eased into at game night, the complaining when too much food was ordered for three people to eat, the good natured teasing when he rolled over to your side of the bed at night to steal your blanket.
Something was eating at you, gnawing at you from the inside.
His suspicion was confirmed when you whispered at 2am one night to what you thought was an asleep partner that you wanted to move out. Find a place of your own.
His stomach dropped instantly but he didn’t so much as move a muscle.
“I need to get out. I need to have a life,” you sniffed, doing your best not to wake him up as you traced circles into his skin lightly. “I don’t know what it’s like to be independent. I won’t know unless I figure it out myself.”
The air had a chill to it and it was one of the times you had asked him to sleep in the guest bedroom with you instead of on his own, knowing that it was one of those nights where you could use a little extra warmth.
“Even when we were in there I couldn’t stop thinking about whether this thing between us was just because we were forced to stay together. You said it wasn’t, and I know that but I can’t help but think-” Your voice cracked. “Would you come back to me if things were different?”
He didn’t answer, even though he knew what he wanted to say with all the certainty in the world. Your fingers continued to draw on his skin. He continued to let you.
Sam didn’t even bring up the conversation that morning, or that week. Instead, he held you a bit closer whenever he could and gave you the space to hopefully open up to him on your own time, letting you know that he’d be there to listen.
It took a while. You both were in the middle of watching a movie that wasn’t Die Hard when you told him that you needed to talk to him about something. The hesitancy in your voice and the fixation your fingers had with the hem of your sweater was painful to witness.
He understood, of course. He always did. That you needed to experience what it was like to live, not survive. That decades of living with other kids, living under an abuser, living in a safehouse for months, was restrictive and suffocating and you needed to find what made you happy.
And so did he. It was something both of you had to do eventually, exit the bubble you had been staying in under such ardent protection for those two months.
Riley was wonderfully supportive of it, vowing to find you the best apartment that New Orleans had to offer. You didn’t doubt it.
His place had been colourful and bright and everything you could have asked for after the monotone walls you were used to. But it wasn’t yours.
A few weeks later you had moved out. Sam left a lingering kiss on your forehead, a sign to say that he’d be here whenever, whatever.
You made a Shakira joke. He laughed.
A completely fresh new start. If you failed now, it was all on you.
And what a terrifying thought that was.
It had been four months since you had left Riley’s apartment behind.
Four months since you had seen either of them.
The cafe was starting to feel too small for this event. Too intimate, too-
When the bell above the cafe chimes, something at the back of your mind instantly wakes up, sending you on high alert.
“Y/N?” he called out from behind you.
You knew he’d be early.
“Sam.” You breathed out, standing up to face him.
Video calls didn’t do him any justice. He had a particular glow to him, an aura of confidence that wasn’t there the last time you saw him. His beard was neatly trimmed and the smile that tugged at his lips the minute you caught his eye was beautiful.
You didn’t realise how different he looked until the time apart. Months of makeshift workouts and peanut butter as your only source of protein had done a number on him. You remembered him being leaner, and what you now realised was the constant burden of fatigue on his face.
“You look good.” An understatement escaped you, but he did.
He had a deep blue shirt on that hugged him in all the right places. Months of seeing him only black and grey had you damn near drooling when he wore other colours after you got out.
Not that you were staring, but his biceps had definitely made a wonderful return.
“You’re not so bad yourself.” Sam sent you a smile that instantly put you at ease. “Independence looks good on you, sweetheart.”
You gave a small laugh, gesturing for him to take a seat. Should you have hugged him? Shook his hand? Kissed hi-
“It’s been a while,” he politely interrupted your overthinking. “How are things going?”
You let out a small breath. It was a big question, one that you had answered over text and call a few times but it was different now. He was in front of you now and you couldn’t bullshit the way you used to on call occasionally.
“Weird,” you admitted. “I don’t know what to do with myself now that I have all this time.”
“It takes some gettin’ used to.” He nodded in agreement, leaning back in his chair.
A lot of your time went into trying new hobbies. Knitting, pottery, drawing- anything that you could get your hands on. Things didn’t always catch on, some discarded just after the first week. Others stuck, bringing you bits of triumph every time you moved forward with your newfound skill.
“You still seein’ your therapist?” He flashed a smile at the waitress who filled his glass of water.
Ah, yes. Dr. Bishop had been one of the first people you sought out.
“Yeah.” You took a sip of water. “See her weekly.”
You still had money left over from all the hit jobs that you had done. As much as you wanted to leave every inkling of that life behind, you needed the cash to live. You had enough for the time being, but you knew that eventually you had to start working; if not for the money then for the peace of mind.
“How’s that goin’?”
“She thinks I talk in elaborate metaphors. The gang’s what I call my toxic family, he was my abusive father, stuff like that.”
There were moments where you thought you saw someone you knew standing at a corner, vendors giving you icy looks from across the street, footsteps outside your door that seemed too damn loud. But nothing ever came of it.
“Thanks for the tip, by the way.” You extended a smile to him in appreciation for the idea.
“Worked with my therapist, figured it would be the same with yours.” He shrugged casually. It wasn’t like you wanted to lie to her, and you weren’t. But some things were better left in the dark.
“But I think it’s helping.” You exhaled deeply, eyes downcast. “The nightmares are reducing.”
“That’s a lot of progress.” The corner of his mouth quirked upward in pride.
Several feelings erupted from that look, some that you’d spend the whole day revelling in if you didn’t force yourself to move on.
“How about you?” you diverted the subject back to him. “How’s Riley?”
“He says he misses ya.” Sam laughed. “Says he can’t handle me alone, that he needs you back to save him.”
“What have you been doing to that poor man?” you teased, easing back into your seat. “He was fine when I left him.”
“He’s got a fancy new job now and it’s been going to his head. Needed a little humbling.”
“You’re not going too hard on him, are you?” Even though you knew he wasn’t, it was fun to make sure.
“Nah, I’d say it’s just about the right amount.” Sam grinned and you felt the familiar flutter return to your stomach. “I’ve been doing good. Working on getting my license.”
“Oh yeah, how’s that going?” You were thrilled when he said he was going to look into becoming a youth counselor, knowing that it was something he had been genuinely wanting to do for ages.
“With my background, or lack of it, it’s a little trickier than I thought it would be,” he divulges a bit more seriously. “Riley’s been pulling a few strings and I got a few contacts but it’s gonna take some more time.”
You bit your lip, worry rising for him. He deserved it, he earned it. It fucking sucked that it wasn’t going to be an easy, direct path.
“We’ll figure it out,” you said quietly, reaching out to intertwine your fingers with his in reassurance.
The contact brings with it a small spark. You wondered if he still felt it.
“Yeah. We will.” He sent you a soft smile at your action, not making any effort to move it. “You been on any dates lately?”
You let out a snort at that. “Loads. Have fellas lining up at every corner for me.”
“I bet.” He’s more bold, a bit more open than he was in the first month when you both got out. “How many of them do I have to fight off?”
“I’d say six as a rough estimate.” Your expression mimicked one of consideration. “I hope you’ve been getting your hours in at the gym.”
“I’ll kick it up a notch,” he promised, hands raised in surrender.
“You better. We’re supposed to go for laser-tag.” A dumb callback to a joke he made on one of your last days there.
“Or paintball.” He remembered. It made you unnecessarily giddy. “I added an escape room to the list too.”
“Hilarious,” you fired at him, rolling your eyes slightly but the happiness on your face proved otherwise.
His laughter died down eventually, paving the way for the comfortable silence that lingered between you both. Your eyes fell down to where your hand still held his, biting your lip to conceal a smile.
“Y/N,” he called out, pulling your gaze back to his. “Jokes aside… how are you?”
You let out a breath at his question. You knew it was coming.
“Riley found me an apartment,” you murmured.
Sam looked up from his phone. “Yeah?”
“It’s a nice place. Lots of sunlight. Quiet too.” You toyed with your fingers. “But it’s about an hour away. More if you consider traffic.”
Sam set his phone down gently on the bedside table, indicating that you had his full attention.
“I don’t want you to think I’m abandoning you, because I’m not. I wouldn’t, I just-”
“Hey,” he interrupted calmly, twisting his body to face you. “I don’t think you’re abandoning me. If this is what you need, then you should do it.”
“I don’t know if this is what I need. I don’t know what I’m doing, I’ve never been-” the frustration in your voice only increased as you went on. “-I don’t even know if this is going to work. What if I hate it?”
“Finding out what you hate is just as important as what you like, I think.” He watched you toy with the fidget square he had gotten you. “And you know that if you don’t feel like it, then you can come back here at any moment.”
“I know.” It was a comforting thought. A safety net.
“But would this make you happy?” That caught you by surprise.
It wasn’t something you had thought of. You thought of the negative consequences, the devastating effects it could have on you, how it could be the worst possible decision you’d ever make.
“I don’t know,” you mumbled, a new anxiety setting in. “I guess we’ll see.”
You liked the neighbours who played the piano way too loud at 2am, the really terrible coffee at the therapist’s office and the feeling the paper plane on your dresser gave you when you occasionally looked at it.
You didn’t like how hot the apartment could get, especially during the afternoon, or the guy who sold magazines down the street who cursed at everyone for no reason, or the gentrified Indian food they served at the mall.
But Sam was right. Figuring out what you didn’t like was just as beautiful a journey as figuring out what you did.
“I’m happy.” You breathed out. “Or I'm working towards being happy. But it’s there.”
He doesn’t say anything to that. Simply slipped his palm under yours to lift your hand, pressing a kiss to your knuckles.
“I’m proud of you.”
If anyone could feel the heat that rose to your face they would probably think you had a fever.
The fear that you had, the one of what things would be like if you weren’t forced to survive in a confined space together, had begun to fade the minute he called out your name that day.
It was Sam. Your Sam.
You shake yourself out of your train of thought with a small smile, making a move to gather up your belongings without letting go of his hand for a second.
“Well, c’mon then. Those paintballs aren’t going to shoot themselves.”
“Are you saying this is a date?” There was a smirk on his face that wasn’t there a minute ago.
“Would you still consider it one once I annihilate you?” You tilted your head in a challenge.
“That would never happen, first of all.” He scoffed. “Second… I was thinking that maybe we could do something normal for a change.”
That had you more interested than the prospect of adventure sports. You had enough of it for a lifetime, frankly speaking.
“Lead the way, Cinnamon.” He only rolled his eyes at the nickname, sending you a vaguely threatening look. You just laughed.
“This place got good coffee?” He looked around at the establishment and its patrons.
“One of the best.”
“Then I don’t see why we have to go anywhere else,” he offered and you nodded, relaxing back into your place with the same sense of warmth in your heart that only intensified with his proposal.
He raised his hand up to flag the server, the same girl who had been helping you out since you got there, asking for two menus.
The smile he sent her was infectious. It was good.
“Sam,” you began quietly. “I missed you.”
His eyes softened, the sunlight reflecting in it making it shine like dravite. “I missed you, too.”
“Ready to order?” The waitress stands beside you with a notepad.
He looked at you and you nodded with a smile.
Things were different. You were different.
And he still came back to you.

Warnings: Angst, terrible older sister, smut, Soft!Dom!Elijah
Summary: Y/N is returning home for her little sister's wedding and asked Elijah to pretend to be her fake boyfriend. Y/N began to avoid Elijah making him wonder why as Amelia seemed a little too proud of her self.
Part three -- Epilogue
A/N: If want to be tagged for future fics please let me know ☺
Tag list: @wanniiieeee
Y/N had returned to the party but was avoiding Elijah which made the Original worry that he may have pushed her too much. Elijah thought Y/N liked him back as over the last few days they were getting closer. The vampire looked seeing Amelia smirking making her way to Elijah as he realized Y/N saw them together and misunderstood.
"Can we talk?" Elijah asked placing a hand on Y/N's back after avoiding Amelia in the crowd as Y/N bit the inside of her cheek nodding. Y/N took Elijah out to a quiet patio where no one could see them or hear them unless someone was looking for them.
"It's okay Elijah....you don't have to explain yourself." Y/N said looking at the man she loved while it hurt to let Elijah go, she was used to Amelia taking her boyfriends. Elijah frowned stepping forward reaching cupping her cheek his heart hurting when she pulled away from him.
"I think I do, darling."
"No....no you don't. I get it, Amelia is gorgeous and it was only a matter of time for you to run to my sister." Y/N tells Elijah tears filling her eyes as old wound from her past open as rain began to fall.
"But I want you."
"Elijah....you don't have to do this. I really do get it Amelia is everything I'm not she is more your sp...." Elijah cut Y/N off with a kiss as rain fell harder soaking then both.
"You are gorgeous, I much rather have you than Amelia." Elijah tells Y/N as tears fell from her eyes while Elijah took a deep breath and pushed his self to confess to Y/N.
"Because I love you...I've loved you since the first day I saw you, I knew when I first saw you that you were the one I wanted to be with for the rest of my life." Elijah tells Y/N as she stared seeing no lies and Elijah caught her when she threw herself into his arms kissing him.
"I love you too, Elijah." Y/N said softly cupping Elijah's face as he smiled at her kissing her again as they were getting soaked by the rain not caring. Y/N pulled away wanting more as Elijah picked her up whisking her away up to the bedroom.
"Help me unzip this?" Y/N asked Elijah after he sat her down and closed the door. Elijah was already held undressed having removed his suit jacket, tie and shoes. Y/N shivered feeling Elijah's fingers brushing along her back as he unzipped her dress and pressed kisses on the side of her neck while pushing her dress down.
"White lace baby? Cute." Elijah whispered as she trembled feeling his hot breath on her skin while his fingers trailed along the lace of her strapless bra listening to Y/N's breathing hitch. Y/N let her dress fall at her feet pooling there as she kicked off her heels the turned to face Elijah reaching up cupping his face as Elijah's fingers trailed down her back. The room felt humid as Elijah leaned in closer kissing her while Y/N blushed as she unbuttoned his shirt and he cupped her breast making her moan against his mouth as his thumb brushed against her nipple though the lace.
"Elijah." Y/N breathed as Elijah hovered over her after moving them to the bed. A soft whimper slipped from her lips as Elijah placed gentl kisses on her neck as his hands moved up her smooth legs. Y/N mewled as Elijah kissed along her breast and arch a bit so Elijah could unclip her bra and threw it somewhere in the bedroom. As Elijah place kisses between her breast as she shy away getting Elijah's attention and he gently grabbed her hands pulling them away from her face.
"Don't hide away pretty girl." Elijah said softly peppering her neck and face with kisses as she wrapped her arms around his neck as he kissed her deeply. Elijah pulled away getting undressed and Y/N flushed feeling Elijah's heated skin against hers with only a thin barrier between them.
"Just so you know I'm new to this." Y/N tells Elijah making him pause and down at her on his forearms she blushed hard noticing the predatory glit in his eyes.
"Virgin?"
"No....not really. I mean James and I done things..... I just never really felt this." Y/N said as Elijah smirked leaning down to her ear while his hand moved along her breast making her gasp.
"Then allow me to give you pleasure the right way then." Elijah said lowly his tone husky as Y/N shivered moving to touch him but Elijah gently took her wrist away. He moved them above her head as he kissed her deeply grinding against her pulling a moan from her.
"Leave your arms above your head, baby." Elijah tells her seeing her cheeks flush with blush while his tone was soft there was a commanding under tone making a heat of arousal flood Y/N's veins. Elijah kissed along her neck as his hands moved along her body while his mouth followed pulling soft whimpers from Y/N. She squeaked almost moving her arms when Elijah nipped at her hip and moved his mouth to her thigh leaving marks on them.
"Elijah!" Y/N squealed when without warning Elijah tore off her panties and buried his face between her thighs as he placed her legs over his shoulders. Y/N bit her bottom lip from moaning too loud as Elijah held her thighs open not giving her any chance to squirm free. Y/N choked out a low moan gripping the sheets as Elijah worshipped her with his tongue.
"F....f...fuck!" Y/N choked out arching as Elijah worked her with his mouth alone until she came with a moan. Elijah hummed against her slipping two fingers into her soaked core getting her to pull at the sheets groaning. Elijah moved his mouth to her thigh biting it as he curled his fingers in her pulling a raspy moan from her lips.
"Can you take another finger?" Elijah asked against her skin as she rolled her hips against his fingers nodding. Y/N sucked in breath as Elijah slipped a third finger in her core encouraging her to ride his fingers as his thumb came on to her clit.
"You are doing so well baby." Elijah muttered softly kissing her abdomen feeling her walls flutter around his fingers. Y/N gasped as Elijah moved his mouth back on her clit as he moved his fingers deeper enjoying the sounds he was pulling from Y/N. She was shaking as she felt Elijah's fingers curled in her as it seemed to her Elijah clearly knew how to please a woman.
"Elijah." Y/N moaned cumming and panted as Elijah pulled away. She watched the vampire lick his fingers clean making her blush hard as Elijah moved caging her under him.
"Such a good girl." Elijah praise when she spead her legs more so he'll fit better making her body sing in delight. Elijah undressed all the way and hiked her legs around his waist as Y/N trembled feeling his cock brush against her wet center.
"We can stop at anytime, baby. Now do you want this?" Elijah asked kissing her neck as Y/N's heart fluttered as James never took the time to ask as all the man wanted was to fuck her. And as Y/N thought about it she didn't think not once did James make her cum. Elijah allowed her to move her arms over his shoulders as she was ready and wanted to feel Elijah in her.
"Yes....please Elijah.....I need you." Y/N said softly kissing Elijah as he eased into her slowly. Y/N let out a breathy moan as Elijah groaned burying his face in her hair neck pausing letting her adjust to him before continuing to enter her. Y/N couldn't help but notice that how much bigger Elijah was than James as the Original had filled her deliciously. Elijah bottomed out and paused groaning against her skin at out tight she felt.
"So prefect baby. May I move?"
"Yes, move Elijah." Y/N whined rolling her hips making him growl gripping her hips setting a slow, deep pace making Y/N moan. Normally Elijah would have fucked her into the bed as her held her down but Elijah didn't want to overwhelm her. Y/N gasp rolling her hips to meet his thrusts as she laced her fingers with Elijah's feeling his lips brush against her skin.
".....Elijah..." the vampire pulled his face away her neck having heard Y/N's voice crack. Y/N was suddenly overwhelmed with feels for Elijah.
"Baby?"
"I.....really....do love you, Elijah." Y/N tells him cupping his face pulling down kissing him softly pulling a soft moan from Elijah kissing back moving a bit faster.
"And I love you more, my love." Elijah whispered against her skin as he placed kisses on whatever he could as soft moan and whimpers slipped from her lips. Y/N suddenly squealed pulling Elijah's hair when he gave an sharp thrust as he nipped at her thoat growling feeling her walls squeezed him.
"Pl....pl....please....do that again." Y/N whimpered as Elijah's eyes darken doing as she asked pulling cries of his name from her lips. Elijah moved her leg higher allowing him to go deeper and reach between them rubbing her clit as she buried her face in his neck. Y/N bit Elijah's neck to muffle her screams when he moved harder as she unable to hold on any longer she cummed hard taking Elijah with her over the edge.
"Baby, you alright?" Elijah asked softly as Y/N fell back against the bed panting nodding as her limbs felt like jelly. Elijah smiled gently pulling out slowly getting her to whimper.
"Eli..." Y/N panting as Elijah leaned down kissing her as he gently helped her put her arms around his neck carrying her to the bathroom to clean them both up. Y/N stole Elijah's pajama shirt while he wore the pants and smiled as Y/N wrapped her arms around his neck. Elijah sighed happily placing his forehead on hers smiling as she pecked his lips with kisses squeaking when Elijah picked her up suddenly to take her to bed.
"Hmm, Eli....I'm too tired to return to the party." Y/N muttered sleepily burying her face in his neck as Elijah placed he phone down then kissed her head.
"Don't worry baby, I took care of it."
"Hmmm....this...is.....why....I...love ya...." Y/N muttering falling asleep as Elijah chuckled running his fingers though her hair. Y/N couldn't help but fall asleep against Elijah while the Original was happy to finally have the woman in his arms as he relaxed knowing this was the first night in forever.

Y/N was tapping her finger on the desk, her head resting in her palm. She was watching the professor walk around in front of the class explaining something but she wasn’t paying attention. Her mind was filled with thoughts about whether or not she was going to get the role.
Some people from her university that were majoring in Film Production had to write a script for a short movie and the best five got chosen to be produced. Initially, she believed that only Theater and Film Majors could participate at the auditions but the administration of the school made an announcement one morning informing them that everyone could take part in the audition process. That meant she had to deal with more competitors for the role she wanted.
Initially, Y/N was the only one who wanted to audition for the main role of one of the movies since people didn’t really catch its concept that well. When the audition day finally came, one Modern Dance major showed up out of nowhere and auditioned as well. The apparition of that particular character made her blood boil with anger.
Her competitor for the role was none other than Mina, her so-called enemy. They weren’t enemies in the real sense of the word. They just simply didn’t click with one another and silently agreed a long time ago to ignore each other. They weren’t pulling childish stunts on each other, they didn’t speak each other's names unless necessary, they didn’t try to win each other in grades or parties or body counts. They were just mutually ignoring one another. And everything was fine until she showed up there.
Y/N wasn’t going to lie and say that Mina wasn’t good. Her performance wasn’t exceptional but for someone that has never done that before, she was fairly good. That had her worried about her chances of getting chosen.
When the bell finally rang ending her suffering she got up in the split of a second and left the room. She could not bear to hear any more of the professor’s babbling. Her boots let out quiet thuds every time they touched the concrete floors. She found herself in front of the announcement board but the paper that was supposed to tell her if she got chosen or not, was missing. Thinking to herself that they probably will put it up later she turned on her heels and made her way towards the cafeteria.
She met her friend Hayoon there and they sat down at a table situated in the centre of the cafeteria. They talked about how they had been up until then and Hayoon complained about one of her classes and how she’s going to fail it.
The chatter in the cafeteria died down when the door was slammed open and Mina stomped in, a bitter expression on her face. “I can not believe that they made me a stunt double! What does that even mean?” Her voice was louder than it should have been as she addressed her friends. Her intention was most probably to attract attention.
A smirk crept on Y/N’s face as she realised that she did, in fact, get the main role. She gave her friend a suggestive eyebrow raise as she slowly took the chopstick to her mouth. Her face dropped when she heard the stomping approaching her. “Hey, loser, what’s a stunt double?” Mina’s voice was scratching her ears. How she managed to sound like one of those toys for dogs sometimes, she’ll never understand.
“I can’t believe you’ve auditioned for a role without knowing what a stunt double is.” Y/N rolled her eyes at the other girl and a few people from around them chuckled. Mina’s face caught a crimson colour as the embarrassment settled in.
“Haha, you are so funny!” It was clear by now that the girl was trying to mask her flustered form by trying to embarrass Y/N back.
The truth was that she didn’t mean to make fun of her. She just let her first thoughts leave her mouth. “I wasn’t trying to be funny.” A sigh left her lips. “A stunt double is a person that executes all the dangerous or action scenes for the main actor so they don’t get injured. Stunt doubles are usually gymnasts, people that know martial arts and all that jazz. They probably chose you because of your dance background.”
“I can’t believe it. Not only they didn’t give me the role, but they are also going to use me to protect you?” Mina had an annoyed expression.
“Oh please! Did you really think they were going to choose you? You entered that room without even knowing the concept and somehow managed to get the feel right a couple of times. Meanwhile, some of us actually prepared for that audition.” Y/N was fed up with Mina’s princess behaviour. Always thinking that everything is rightfully hers and expecting everyone to kiss her ass. All that just because her father was donating a big sum of money to the university every term. They are donations at the end of the day and she should not be expecting special treatment just for that.
Mina’s face became a crimson red for the second time in ten minutes and she stomped away from Y/N’s table. The few people that were watching them averted their eyes when Y/N took a look around.
From the corner of the cafeteria, someone was watching them with a smirk on their face. Oh, how he got just the perfect idea.
Tumblr media
Y/N sat in the second closest row to the professor. She was in “Canto class” as she liked to call it. It was one of the optional classes she chose to take that year. It wasn’t a compulsory class for Theater and Film majors since you don’t necessarily have to know how to sing to be an actress but she took it anyway because she thought it would be fun. And so far it was.
A loud bang invaded her left ear and she turned to find Han Jisung having his back to her and chatting with his friends that were seated a few rows behind them. She raised her eyebrow but didn’t question it. It wasn’t like the seat was occupied and she definitely had nothing against him sitting next to her. He probably just wanted to pay more attention since he and his friends are always distracted during class.
Y/N turned back to her stuff and opened her notebook to take another look at the notes from last class. Soon after the professor entered the classroom and the chatter died down.
She was vigorously writing in her notebook everything the professor was explaining to them. Suddenly she felt a touch on her left elbow and stopped for a second. She immediately resumed her writing, convinced that he probably did that by mistake. Not even a minute later she felt another touch on her elbow this time more evident. She ignored it again not paying much mind to it. Jisung’s elbow collided with hers causing her to push her notebook and scribble on it.
She snapped her head towards him and felt anger overcome her when she noticed the smirk on his face. “What?” She whispers yelled in his direction.
“Hi!” He did a short wave of his hand in her direction and she clenched her jaw. She closed her eyes and exhaled deeply before going back to her note-taking. She had only five minutes of peace before he poked her side again. She smacked his hand away from her and continued to mind her own business.
Throughout the class, Jisung kept bothering her and trying to talk to her despite her obvious wish to let her take notes. When the bell rang she got up quickly, her blood boiling and left the room in a hurry hoping she could lose Jisung on the busy halls. As she was hurriedly making her way between the sea of people she felt an arm going over her shoulders and she crashed with the owner of the arm.
“Why are you in such a hurry babe?” Jisung’s voice rang in her ear as they were practically glued to each other. She grabbed his hand and swung his arm away from her shoulders.
“For the love of God, what do you want from me Han Jisung?” Exasperation was present in her voice as she threw him an ugly look.
She couldn’t guess what he needed from her to annoy her to that extent. They were acquaintances and nothing more. They knew each other from that one class they shared and the longest interaction they had was when the professor prepared an interactive class once and they had to work in groups of five.
He was the university’s “heartthrob” as people liked to call him. Y/N personally thought that that title should be given to Hwang Hyunjin who was majoring in Modern Dance. He was more mature than the rest of his friends, he was friendly with everyone and wasn’t pulling pranks on innocent people to entertain some brainless creatures. But who was she to oppose the masses?
On top of doing all those things, Jisung was also in a relationship with Mina. Every time they are together they will target someone and will start making fun of them. More Mina than Jisung but he was still entertaining her actions and that made him as guilty as she was.
“I need to ask you something. Or better, make you a proposal.” He winked at her and she felt an uncomfortable shiver run through her. How disgusting.
“Ok, and what is it?” She threw him an expectant look and he started looking around.
“Let’s talk outside where there are fewer people. You got a free period, right?” Confusion made its way on her face.
“How do you know that? Are you weirdo following me?” She has never talked with him as friends and they share only one class. How on earth would he know her schedule?
“What? No! I see you hanging out around the university all the time after our class.” She rolled her eyes at his answer and gestured her hand towards the closest exit out of the building signalling him to lead the way.
Very soon they were seated on a bench under a tree somewhere behind the university. It was her first time coming there. Y/N usually liked to remain at the front of the building since couples usually liked to come there and make out sometimes even fuck.
“I think we should start dating.” He blurted out and she froze for a second before jumping to her feet startling the man.
“I knew you were fucking weird. I’m leaving!” What in the actual fuck did she think when she came here. For a second she expected a real conversation but Jisung’s main skills were flirting and making bad jokes. She set her expectations way too high for that conversation.
She picked her bag from the bench and started leaving only to have Jisung grab her wrist and stop her. “Wait, let me explain. I swear you’ll understand better after.” Y/n wanted to turn and leave but the puppy dog eyes he gave her made her stay and listen to him. Now, don’t get her wrong, his expression didn’t soften her but if he was desperate enough to try the puppy eyes on her then it must be important to him.
She plopped down on the bench and waited for him to start talking. “Look, I’m pretty sure you know Mina. And I know you two aren’t on great terms. I say we date so you can get back at her for all the things she has done to you.” He raised his eyebrows at her and pursed his lips.
Y/N was the one that raised her eyebrow next as she leaned her head to the side. “Aren’t you and Mina dating?”
“Obviously not.” Jisung used a tone that pissed Y/N off. A tone that said ‘It was so obvious, how can you not know?’ and she didn’t like it one bit.
“Oh, I’m so sorry! I must have read the signs the wrong way. I mean, it's not like you are always together and you carry her backpack around and you hang out outside of school six days out of seven and kiss before classes and make out behind the university probably right on this bench.”
A smirk appeared on Jisung’s face. “Who’s following who now?”
“Don’t flatter yourself. Mina’s voice is so annoying I could hear her every time she talked. When I would turn to see what was up now you two were most times engaged in some sort of PDA.” She spoke fast trying to prove that she wasn’t following him. She didn’t know why she felt the need to do that but the thought of Jisung thinking that she has some sort of interest in him was terrifying. He completely humiliated the last “unpopular” girl that confessed her feelings to him and at that moment the last thing she needed was for him to go around saying she is a stalker.
“Well, we are getting there. I asked her out and she said that she’ll love to but it’s too fun to tease me. When I asked her ‘What if I get a girlfriend?’ she told me I can not find anyone better for me than her. When I saw you fighting in the cafeteria earlier I knew I found my perfect girl. Not only are you hot, but she also hates you.” Y/N raised an eyebrow at his words.
“Hot?” Her tone was untrusting as this was the first time someone from uni had said that to her.
“Yeah. You didn’t think that guys came to last year’s theatre spectacles because they were actually interested in theatre, right?” A laugh left his mouth at her dumbfounded face as she registered his words. A blank expression adorned her face immediately after trying not to seem so surprised.
“Well, not anymore.” She let her tongue trace her bottom lip before biting the flesh. “Ok, so tell me what you actually want us to do.” Uneasiness settled inside Jisung as he watched her bored face.
“Well, I mean what I said. We should date. Or fake dating if you will. That way I can make Mina jealous and push her to run into my arms. I bet she can’t stand seeing me with you for too long.” He looked into her eyes hopefully thinking that maybe he convinced her but his hope was quickly shattered when she opened her mouth.
“What are you? Five? I don’t want to get back at her and I have absolutely no reason to help you in your sick plan. I’m out of here!” Once again she picked up her bag to leave only for Jisung to grab her wrist and stop her, again.
“Please Y/N! I’m desperate. I’ve been trying to date her for a year and a half already.” That was pathetic. She had absolutely no reason to help him. None at all. But something pushed her to stay and accept his offer. Maybe she could take advantage of the situation.
Turning her head towards her she tried to keep a straight face as best as she could. “What do I get out of it?”
Jisung’s face brightened instantly at her question and he held her hand with both of his. “Anything you want. If it’s possible I’ll do it.” His eyes were pouring into hers and a stupid sparkle was present in them.
“I guess you were going to do that anyway but I want you to present me to your friends.” The same bored expression that she had on for almost the entirety of their conversation was adorning her face. Jisung was amazed at the lack of emotions she managed to show but she was an actress. Maybe she’s just good at her job.
“Why? Do you have a crush on any of them?” A smirk was enveloping his facial features and he had a teasing tone. Y/N rolled her eyes at his comment.
“No. Some of them seem like really interesting people but their only defect was hanging out with you. Now that I have to hang out with you too I might as well start talking to them.” She shook his hands off hers before putting it in her front pocket. “Now I have to go to class cause my free period is almost over. See you later, babe!” She winked at him before turning around and making her way to her next class.
Tumblr media
The next day she met with Jisung in front of the cafeteria so they could walk in together and “announce” their relationship. Somehow he got hold of her number and they texted the night prior about the terms of their little deal. She felt like laughing when she saw how serious he was about it. If he really did end up dating Mina she’ll be convinced that both of them are idiots.
His arm was over her shoulders as they walked through the tables. Multiple people were staring at them but she decided to ignore them. Upon reaching the table she placed her tray down and took a seat. The people at the table were looking confused at one another and some were throwing Jisung questioning looks.
“Everyone, meet my girlfriend.” He spoke gesturing with a hand towards her. She smiled at them and waved her hand, muttering a soft ‘Hi!’.
One of them, who she recognised to be Lee Minho, a Modern Dance major cleared his throat. “Hey. It’s nice to meet you.” He had an awkward smile on. “What are you majoring in?”
“Yeah, I don’t recall seeing you around campus.” Seo Changbin, a Music Production major added.
“Oh, I…” She started talking but a puff coming from her left stopped her.
“Seriously dude? You share a class. She’s L/N Y/N from your Theory and Improvisation class.” The voice belonged to Hwang Hyunjin and she felt a funny feeling in her stomach at the realisation that he knows her. Everyone around the table was throwing him weird looks.
“You are right but how do you know that? I’m pretty sure you don’t take that class.” There was a trace of embarrassment in her voice.
“I don’t but sometimes when I wait for those guys outside of the classroom I see you walking out.” He said that with nonchalance taking a bite from his food.
“And how do you know her? She’s not a Music Production major otherwise we would have known. And she’s not a Dance major either otherwise Minho and Felix would have known about her as well.”Changbin’s tone was almost provoking as if Hyunjin had done something bad and he was about to reveal it.
“She’s a Theatre and Film major. Last year when we went to all those theatre spectacles to support Jeongin I was actually paying attention to the plays. She had either the main role or the lead. I remember her being really good.” She felt her cheeks heat at his comment.
“Thank you!” She threw him a smile. However, she got ignored as Lee Felix started talking.
“Do you know her Jeongin?” She somehow felt offended by his question. Maybe that wasn’t his intention but he should have used a different tone.
“Of course I do. We share almost all of our classes and last year we worked on multiple plays together.” Annoyance was present in his voice caused by his friends' ignorance.
She knew Jeongin from the first day. He was the first to speak to her although they didn’t exactly become friends. They kept on working on plays together throughout the entirety of the first year of college but they kept everything mostly professional since they both had their own group of friends and she kind of disliked most of his friends.
“Then how come you never talk about her?” Now, wasn’t Changbin an annoying one? She rolled her eyes discreetly at his question.
“Because we are not the best of friends. Why don’t you talk about Kim Gina from your degree?” The youngest question was a good one. They were acquaintances and barely knew something about each other. What was he supposed to talk about?
“Gina is not hot. What am I supposed to talk about?” The older male said calmly with a shrug of his shoulders.
The water she was just drinking got stuck in her throat and she started coughing violently. Jisung started hitting her back repeatedly trying to help her swallow. When she finally calmed down she looked at him annoyed.
“Who she is, is not important. What’s important is that she is my girlfriend” he gave Changbin a side look ”and you have to accept that. Stop talking about her like she is not sitting right in front of you.” A few of them raised their hands in defeat while some of them averted their eyes. Minho and Changbin rolled their eyes.
She felt her blood pressure spike up at their action. She remembered why she never wanted to talk to any of them. Arrogant pricks.
“Ok, Mister protective boyfriend. Just tell us when you break up.” Minho took a bite of his food done with the younger man’s antics. Everyone knew that he was in love with Mina. The moment she shows some interest in him he would probably leave this one in a heartbeat.
Y/N sucked in a breath discreetly. He really got her worked up and she hated it. She put an arm around Jisungs shoulders and yanked him towards her, his face close to her chest. With her other hand, she grabbed the sides of his face making him look up at her and forcefully pursing his lips.
“Break up? Do you wanna break up with me, babe?” Y/N’s voice was mocking as if she was talking with a child. Jisung swallowed hard before shaking his head. She smiled at his response and used the hand from around his shoulders to ruffle his hair. “That’s what I thought.” She placed a short kiss on his lips before releasing him and turning back to her food.
Everyone at the table was looking at both of them shocked, especially Minho and Changbin. She wanted to let a proud smile escape her but she controlled herself.
For the rest of the lunch, she decided not to engage in any more discussions with Jisung’s friends. She continued eating her food and listened to them talking about things that didn’t involve her, occasionally responding to Hayoon’s texts.
She was the first one to get up, impatient to go to her next class and not have to see them. “Bye guys. It was lovely meeting you!” She smiled at them, a smile half true because she did like some of them. “Bye babe. See you later!” She grabbed the sides of his face again placing another kiss on his lips before taking her empty tray and leaving them alone.
Tumblr media
The men all watched her as she made her way out of the cafeteria. When she closed the door behind her they all burst into laughter. Jisung was biting the inside of his cheek irked by their action. When the laughter stopped, Seungmin that was sitting next to him put his hand on his shoulder.
“I absolutely adore your girlfriend. She knows how to keep her ‘babe’ in check I see.” Seungmin tried cupping his face as Y/N did but Jisung slapped his hand away.
“Are you her good boy, Jisungie? Does she give you rewards if you listen to her?” Minho cooed at him and Jisung held back an insult.
“Shut the fuck up. It’s not like that. She surprised me as well. Who the fuck knew she was going to do that?” When he proposed the whole fake dating thing to her he thought it would be easier. Looking at it now he can’t understand why he thought that. He saw the way her fights with Mina unfold and he knew she was an actress which meant that she was probably either crazy confident or really good at faking it. For some reason, he thought she would be easier to tease and control but it would be a lie if he said it didn’t intrigue him. He liked a challenge and if the prize was Mina he would try his best.
“And you man” Chan spoke for the first time “what the fuck was that? Do you know her entire biography?” He was looking at Hyunjin who rolled his eyes.
“I told you I paid attention to last year’s plays. On top of that, she’s hot. I remember that after one spectacle I and the guys from my dance group at the time talked about her for like a month. She was so..” The man let out a groan and threw his head back trying to explain what he meant.
“Sure, tell me more. Did you masturbate to the thought of my girlfriend? Perhaps got any wet dreams about her?” Jisung commented, raising an eyebrow.
Hyunjin winked at him as a smirk made its way on his face. Some of the guys simultaneously let out disgusted sounds at his gesture.
“But how did this whole thing happen? I can’t remember a moment when you talked about her or when you were together.” Felix’s deep voice rang making everyone pay attention to him.
Changbin suddenly let a gasp out and dramatically covered his mouth. “Yesterday our little Jisungie sat next to her in Theory and Improvisation and when the class ended he ran after her. I think he might have had a secret crush!” The older man teased.
“Yeah, but she looked really annoyed with him. Hence why she sprinted out of the class. Why would she accept to date him if she looked like she’d rather listen to Mr Jung talk about the first piano ever invented.” Chan intervened making Jisung shrug his shoulders.
“She was annoyed with me but what can I say? I’m so charming she couldn’t refuse me.” He leaned back in his chair putting his arms over the back of the chair.
“I think she did it out of pity. When she realized you’ve been trying to get Mina for a year and a half now she probably felt so bad for you she decided to sacrifice herself so you look less like a loser.” Hyunjin said his tone way to serious to be a joke.
Jisung threw the man a deadly stare. “At least I didn’t masturbate to the thought of her like a fucking virgin.” He spat in the other man’s face.
      “Touche.”

Y/N’s P.O.V.
The drive back home was silent. A lot was going through my head - too much, in fact. My heartbeat was so out of pace, it felt like I had just finished a race. But I hadn’t. Because the race in my mind was only just starting.
At least Ransom seemed as lost in his thoughts as I was, so I didn’t have to feel even guiltier about ignoring him or not giving him the attention he deserved. A part of me still wanted to weigh me down, though - asking me to snap out of my own thoughts to focus on him and try to make him feel better. I could only imagine what was going through his head right now, and it couldn’t be nice.
But I had to focus on myself first if I wanted to have any ability to help him. So that’s what I did. I thought about everything that happened back at his grandfather’s house and how I felt about it. And by the time we walked through the front door and I heard it close behind our backs, I knew what I wanted to do about it.
“Ransom,” I called out for his attention, keeping my eyes on the floor as I heard him hum behind me. “Would you take me to do a paternity test tomorrow?” Silence followed my question, and I held my breath at the lack of any sounds that indicated where he was or what he was doing. Finally, his figure stood before me and he cradled my face so I’d keep my gaze on his.
Ransom’s P.O.V.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” I knew that despite the harsh words, it was clear by my soft tone of voice that there wasn’t any anger at her. I was just genuinely confused, not understanding how after everything that had happened this is how she wanted to deal with it.
“I don’t want any doubts living in the back of your head,” she breathed out, clearly nervous and confused. I was nervous and confused too, but not about her, my feelings for her or for the baby that grew in her belly.
“I don’t have any doubts,” I assured her, but she was already shaking her head, trying to pull aways from me. I wasn’t having any of it. Quickly, I seized her wrists and used my grip on them to pull her against my chest, making sure she’d keep looking me in the eye.
“I’m just trying to give you some peace of mind.” Her voice was small when she spoke,  looking up at me from under her eyelashes and my heart clenched at the realization of just how fearful she was.
“There’s no war inside of it.” I was enthusiastic in the way I shook my head, pulling her to me every time she tried to push herself away. “Darling, you’re the best thing that has ever happened to me. I’ll do whatever it takes to make you stay.”
She stopped fighting then, directly staring at me with a vulnerability in her stare I hadn’t seen her sport before - not even in the night she admitted how terrified she was of this pregnancy.
I hated that my family was the one to blame for putting these insecurities on her. But I was here for her, just like she’d been there for me back then. I’d make sure to wipe any hesitancy away from her beautiful, brilliant mind until there was nothing left but the certainty of my love for her.
Because I did love her. And I needed to make her see it.
“I don’t know how you can ever imagine I’d let you go - child or no child,” I began, slowly pulling her towards our bedroom, keeping her eyes on me as I backed through the hallways. “No one has ever defended me before, especially not to my entire family.”
“I don’t think I can ever live without this… this support anymore.” My confession was hard on me because I was exposing one of my deepest fears. What would I ever do without her, should she decide to leave me?
We were in the bedroom now and I held one of her hands against my chest, her palm spread over my heart. I was sure she could feel its beating against it. Her other hand rose up to my cheek, thumb brushing it softly as she assured me, “You won’t have to, honey.”
I lost my breath when I considered what she was really saying, even if it wasn’t explicit yet. This was enough. It would always be enough, just as long as it was the truth.
“I don’t have any reasons to pull away from you, Ransom. Not anymore.” I felt like I could fall to my knees in gratitude and excitement, breathing heavily as I tried to calm down my heart so I could listen to her speak. “Even after how I treated you… Even despite how hard this entire situation is, you’ve never done anything to make me doubt you. I’m not going to push you away anymore. I promise.”
Y/N’s P.O.V.
He seemed paralyzed, but that was okay. I still had a lot to say. “Honestly, honey… I just want to be here for you, whichever way I can. Now that I’ve met your family, I’m impressed how you managed to be as well-resolved as you actually are.”
He snorted, hands still covering each of mine on his chest and cheek. His eyes were glossy but they never strayed from mine. It made my heart ache as I considered just how lonely this man must have felt through most of his life.
“Would you like a hug?” I offered, laughing slightly - but it was a wet sound. I’d started crying sometime in the evening without even realizing, and when Ransom repeated the same broken note, I noticed his own tears had begun to spill.
“Yes,” he whispered, nodding enthusiastically. “Yes, please.” My arms enveloped him immediately, finding some solace in holding this man close to my chest, offer him the support he very clearly craved but had never gotten.
“Ransom, babe,” I called out to him after a few minutes of caressing his soft hair. “Listen to me.” He pulled away from my body just enough to connect our eyes once more, the trail of tears still clear on his cheeks. “It’s not because you’re related that you have to deal with shit like that, okay?”
He nodded, but it was still a bit hesitant, so I rushed to voice everything I had to say. “I’ll be your family now, alright?” I asked, watching his eyes sparkle when he took in my offer. “I mean…” My tone was teasing now, as I glanced at my belly, separating our torsos. “We kinda already are.”
I saw the second that the desire awakened inside of him. It warmed up my body until everything felt scorching hot, fingers itching to take off my dress. “Please, let me kiss you,” he quietly begged, to which I nodded.
“Please, kiss me.” He started by rubbing our noses together, then gently pressing his mouth against mine. Gentle didn’t last long, though. There was a deep hunger in both of our beings, a hunger only the other could sate.
“Let me please you,” came his second request. “I- God, I don’t think I’ve ever wanted you more than I do right now. And believe me, I think about bending you over the nearest furniture and having my way with you all of the fucking time.”
He was panting, fumbling over his own words now and it only added to the fire in my lower stomach, panties drenched by now. “But seeing you mad… telling off my mother… God, that made me so fucking hard,” he admitted, making me inhale sharply.
“Then take me,” came my own plead, keeping my eyes on his so he’d see how badly I wanted him. “Take me, Ransom.” He didn’t need another word. In a simple movement he had me in only panties on his bed, a growl escaping his chest when he saw how drenched my underwear was.
“Jesus, you’re so wet.” I could only whimper in response, whimper that became a whine as he took off that last piece of clothing and spread my legs for his gaze. “’Ve been dying to taste you,’ he confessed just before he leaned over and licked me open, humming in delight against my pussy.
“Delicious.” I lost control of my own reactions, all I knew was that my legs trembled in Ransom’s hold as he ate me out into an incredible orgasm. I couldn’t help but praise him. “You make me feel so good, honey,” and the way his entire being lit up at the recognition only made me wetter for him.
Ransom’s P.O.V.
I shivered when I finally fused us together, hands searching for hers so I could interlock our fingers as I bottomed out. “Is this okay?” It was quiet in the room and yet my whisper almost got lost while I took in the sight underneath me. Her, filled by my cock, panting in desperate need for me.
“Yes, god, babe, please!” She cried out, thrashing underneath me in an effort to make me move and how could a man hold back after that? I tried to keep my thrusts deep and slow but it seemed like she had a different idea.
“Sh…” I tried to calm her down, pressing kisses down her jaw until I could suck a bruise on her neck. “Let me make love to you, sweetheart.” Panting, I could feel the reality I’d been trying to ignore climb up my throat, making me sputter as I tried to push it back down. “Let me… Fuck… Let me…”
Her hand traveled up my back, fingers tangling in my hair. I grounded myself in that feeling as I kept moving, opening my eyes to meet hers. “I am so in love with you,” it escaped me, flowing freely in the room, a sentence I couldn’t take back.
I wouldn’t. Even if I didn’t originally want to say it like this, mixed up with the sexual hormones, allowing her to believe I could be confused about something of this magnitude. I wouldn’t go back on my own words because they were the truth.
I was gentle this time as I fucked her. I had never made love like this before, and it filled places inside of me I didn’t know I could get satisfaction from this sort of connection. But then again… it could just be her.
“Taking me so well…” In the end, after I’d pushed her over that edge again and ran to meet her there, I cradled her to my chest, unbelieving of the fact that this time, we’d truly be lying in this bed together. Not two people sharing a bed but being apart. Truly, together.
If this was a dream, I remembered thinking just before sleep consumed me… Then I don’t want to wake up.

Star Wars Fic Recs Take 5
[first fic rec list] [second fic rec list] [third fic rec list] [fourth fic rec list]
Hope you're having a lovely day, friends! Here, take some more fic recs to make it even better!
Infinite Sadness (what does your heart tell you?) by @the-last-kenobi (gen, one-shot, 12.5k words) This fic definitely lives up to its title, not just in what happens to Obi-Wan, but in the sheer, pervasive sadness and desperation and subtle despair that plagues him as he lives life after life over and over again, trying to make things better each time. But it's not a flashy despair, it's muted and ongoing and never over-the-top, and well, it's infinite sadness. I definitely think this fic is slept on, it's absolutely amazing and I highly encourage you to check it out.
How Qui-Gon Accidentally Adopted a Baby by @the-last-kenobi (gen, WIP, 18/? chapters, 26.6k words) Oh, did the first fic on this list make you sad? I have the perfect remedy: another fic by @the-last-kenobi! To say that this fic brings me immense joy is an understatement. This fic makes me smile when nothing else will. You get the premise from the title, and I'll admit it may look a little crack-fic-y based on that, but the sheer cuteness of this fic and the quality of the prose elevates it beyond anything else. I'm not even kidding, this fic makes me want to have kids, that's how adorable baby Obi-Wan is in this.
The When Duty Is Done series by thosenearandfarwars (Obi-Wan/Cody, incomplete, 14/? parts, 90k words) I recommended the first story in this series way back in my third fic rec list, and it's only gotten better since then. I really like this series because it imagines -- well, I don't want to just say an ideal post-ROTS universe, because that implies that things are just magically all better, but I think it's a realistic ideal post-ROTS universe. The Jedi Order reforms itself, the clones get reparations and the ability to govern themselves, Anakin doesn't join Palpatine, etc. Through it all is an absolutely wonderful story about two people and their love for each other. It's just lovely.
Fire to ash, present to past (who knows for tomorrow?) by blueberrywizard (Obi-Wan/Cody, one-shot, 11.6k words) One day, Qui-Gon's apprentice completely changes. Or at least, that's how it seems to Qui-Gon, who has no idea that his Padawan is actually now a much older version trapped in this young body. This fic is told from many different points of view and I really like the prose. Definitely one that sticks with you.
|nothing quite like this| by littlekaracan (gen, one-shot, 6.6k words) Don't read this unless you want to feel like your heart has been ripped to pieces. This fic is a piece of experimental fiction, framed as a class reading for Jedi students in the future who are learning about the Purge. It's just devastating, truly devastating. Even though it features no characters we'd be familiar with, you just get so drawn into the world of this Purge survivor, and hearing their experiences is brutal.
In The Afterman, Solitude by kanerallels (gen, one-shot, 2.2k words, Obi-Wan & Quinlan) Obi-Wan is in a cantina on Tatooine after ROTS and runs into Quinlan Vos. What follows reminds him that he's not alone in the galaxy, not like he thought he was. I really like the progression of this fic, how real it seems to the characters. Obi-Wan doesn't just immediately blurt out what happened, and Quinlan is much more subtle than he usually is in fic. I really enjoyed this one.
Ghost Company by existentialAF (Obi-Wan/Cody, one-shot, 2.2k words) Cody's chip gets removed and he makes it his mission to find Obi-Wan and help him in the way he couldn't when Order 66 went down. A fascinating and touching AU of what could have happened post-ROTS if things had gone a little differently. I'd absolutely love to see more in this 'verse but it is a one-shot so I'll be content with what we're given!
The Morning Star series by Kurenaino (4 parts, 1.7 million words, incomplete) I first read this series back in November of 2020 and it has lived in my head rent free ever since then. I'm not kidding, I have to limit myself to only rereading this every couple of months so that it doesn't become too much of a good thing -- and make no mistake, I do reread it every few months, all 1.7 million words of it. To make what is clearly a very long story short, this series charts Obi-Wan's fall to the Dark side post-Naboo and follows him throughout the entire Star Wars saga (TPM, AOTC, Clone Wars, ROTS, Rebels, etc.) I feel like that description doesn't do it justice, though. The sheer breadth of this series takes my breath away. It feels expansive in a way that no fic I've ever read before has, oscillating from large-scale politics to heart-pounding action to sweet and tender love, both romantic and familial. (Oh, and this might be obvious from the whole "Sith Obi-Wan" thing, but just a warning that in these stories, Obi-Wan does some absolutely despicable things, just because he can. Murder, rape, mind control, etc, so take care.) But though he's Sith, he's still got such a heart in him, just like the Obi-Wan we know and love, and you can't help but feel for him at times. And this might not be as much a selling point for you as it was for me, but this series has some absolutely fantastic Thrawn content. He's going toe-to-toe with Obi-Wan and it's glorious, a true match. I'm in the middle of my latest reread of this series, and truly it just makes me so happy. I never see anyone talking about this series and I'm sad it doesn't get the attention it deserves. It really only gets better and better the further into the series you get. Cannot recommend enough!!
There is no Ignorance, there is Knowledge by @sirikenobi12 (gen, one-shot, 4.1k words) A wonderful installment for Jedi June! This fic follows Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, and then Obi-Wan and Anakin and Ahsoka, as they teach and learn lessons on what knowledge means to them. It was an unexpected tearjerker for me, there's one scene in particular that makes me tremble just thinking about it. I just love the way each relationship is portrayed here, and the care that is put into every word. Amazing!
Keeper of the Force by @pandora15 (gen, WIP, 19/20 chapters, 84.4k words) I can't believe I haven't put this on a rec list before, but since there's only the epilogue left, now is the perfect time. This fic starts out small-scale Obi-Wan whump (not saying that in a derogatory way, that's my exact favorite thing) and grows in size as it goes to eventually become a ROTS AU that is oh so good. It's touching, and inspiring, and lovely, and every time a new chapter posts I drop everything to read it. Can't believe the end of this ride is almost upon us!!
If you like any of these fics, please consider reblogging so they can get more exposure! And if you noticed I missed someone’s Tumblr account, or linked the wrong one, please let me know!

Chapters 1/? (without the prologue and epilogue)
Chapter one: Are You Good?
Tumblr media
"Are you sure you will sign the contract? Remember I tell you that according to other Akaashi's assistants, he's too strict and grumpy. I don't know how true that is, but I'm just warning you." Miss Nakamura said. She was the former assistant to the most heralded bachelor, Akaashi Keiji. Better known as his role in the famous men's volleyball series, Haikyu.
Right now you were at the show's recording facility in Tokyo. You had been looking for any job for months, and your friend Saeko, who is part of the cast, told you that one of the boys was looking for an assistant, and you didn't think twice. You had previously worked with actors, but they were theater, but you already wanted to aspire to more. You felt able to withstand the pressure of something bigger, or so you thought.
You looked expectantly at the girl who was about your age. This would be your first time working for a highly reputable actor. Deep inside you did not believe the rumors that revolved around Akaashi, because you knew that the assistants are usually somewhat gossipy and like to create rumors. That's why you didn't hesitate for a second to answer her question.
"I'm sure." You nodded, taking the pen and quickly signing in the appropriate places. Since you had already read it before, you were not so stupid to sign a contract without first reading it. You also noticed that Akaashi's signature was already there, which surprised you even thinking about how beautiful his handwriting is. You returned the pen and the papers at the girl, seeing how she stared at you with eyes full of surprise by how you signed without thinking twice.
You waited for her to put a stamp on everything. When she returned, she gave you a smile which you reciprocated in the same way.
"Right now they are verifying the script with the rest of the cast, if you want come with me and I'll introduce you to them. I just warn you, Kuroo Tetsuro is big ass flirt, so don't be surprised if he says something to you." She whispered to you, making you laugh at her comment. She started walking through a huge door, you just followed her. The more you walked, the more many voices were heard, you assumed it was the actors reading their script.
Miss Nakamura opened a door as soon as they reached the end of a corridor. When you opened it, your cheeks were painted a pink color when a number of eyes fell on you. Getting flustered, you bowed to everyone, a nervous smile plastered on your face. Some of them started laughing, because they thought your reaction was cute. It was normal, but every time it happened, they enjoyed it.
"Sorry for the interruption guys, but I want to introduce you to someone who will be here a lot. I hope you treat her kindly." The girl started talking, a huge smile on her face. She seems like she is very happy to no longer work here. She turned a little to the right, pointing at you and you just smiled a little. "She is L/N Y/N, she is a new assistant."
You bowed again, receiving the same from them. With your gaze you took a look at each one. They were quite recognizable faces, others not so much. You noticed Akaashi Keiji in the background, who had a curious expression.
"Nice to all of you, as you already know my name. I'm just telling you that you can call me Y/N, confidently. I'm here to serve you." You were somewhat surprised that you could speak, having so many men staring at you.
"Welcome, Y/N!" They all said in unison.
You could feel your heart pounding into your chest furiously from how nervous you felt. You hoped you weren't saying something old-fashioned so you wouldn't get fired as soon as you've been hired. You heard a few steps next to you, with the corner of your eyes you saw his black hair as if he were just awake and a somewhat strange grin towards you. He made a gesture with his hand, asking for yours and hesitating a little, you gave it to him. However, it was his next action that totally surprised you and you could bet your face was like a tomato at that very moment. The tall, muscular man brushed his lips on the back of your hand, then kissing it before releasing your hand.
"Nice to meet you, beautiful. I'm Kuroo Tetsuro, but you can call me anytime." He murmured loudly, not caring if the others were listening. So that was the one the girl had warned you about, quite cheesy. You were going to answer, but all the boys laughed at what happened. Which made you wish the earth would suck and spit you out into another galaxy.
"In that case, Kuroo, you should call Akaashi directly because Y/N is his new assistant." Nakamura said, then chuckling at the growl of frustration the afore mentioned let out. You couldn't help but laugh too, covering your mouth so no one would see. You have always been ashamed of your smile.
"Why does Keiji take all the beautiful girls? It's unfair." The black haired one snaped, approaching a monochrome haired boy, who was next to Akaashi. Everyone laughed at his comment.
What a comedian.
After a while, everyone went about their business and Miss Nakamura told you to come over to Akaashi to introduce yourself to him. And with the nerves eating you from the inside, you were walking towards him. You thought of a thousand ways to introduce yourself to him, so as not to screw it up.
"Uhm, Sir Akaashi—," You started, but you got interrupted. You could tell in your voice how nervous you were.
"Please don't call me sir, I'm only 25 years old and it makes me feel old. You can use the san with me, it doesn't bother me." Akaashi said. You felt faint. Not only was he physically beautiful, but his voice was a beautiful contrast. It wasn't the first time you heard his voice, but hearing it in person was like a dream. His voice hoarse from him, but soft made your legs shake.
"Excuse me, Akaashi-san." He responded quickly, bowing apologetically, eliciting a soft laugh from the actor. Oh shit I made him laugh. You played with your fingers, not knowing what to say, but ended up saying, "It's nice to meet you and to be able to work with you."
You didn't know if you were dreaming or it was reality, but you managed to see a small smirk with his face before saying, "The pleasure is all mine, Miss L/N."
At this point you could see how nice he is. Which made you confused about the rumors surrounding him. Where did they get that he was rude?
However, you had no idea what was to come.

The one constant in your life.
The boy who’d always been there for you, through the dark days and the cold nights, holding your hand through it all.
The one who’d held you when you broke down.
The one who’d tucked you under his wings as the skies crackled with energy, rain pouring from the heavens, and told you that no matter where you went, he’d stay with you. He’d keep you nice and dry, snuggled close to his body as he shielded you from the storm.
The one constant in your life.
He’d left quietly in the night, not stopping by to say farewell.
In his place, he’d left a lonesome letter, tucked away beneath a boulder on your special hill.
“I’ll come back for you. Wait for me, okay?”
And from within that plain white envelope, a single red feather floated out, carried on the autumn winds, drifting aimlessly.
Almost as if it were lost.
And in that moment, you felt as if you’d lost a part of yourself, a little piece of your soul.
You weren’t sure you were ever going to get it back.
Tumblr media
Years passed. You waited. There was no sign of him
Not in the skies, not on the land, and even though you’d sometimes see him in the reflection of the water, sitting next to you as you told him about your day, he wasn’t really there either.
I won’t give up on him.
I’ll stay strong.
He told me he’d come back for me.
Against the test of time, your resolve never withered. It only grew, strong as steel, taking over the crevices in your heart where he’d left his mark.
I’ll wait for you, Kei.
But please…come back to me.
Tumblr media
“Hey, (Y/N)!” Your friend called out enthusiastically from her position on the couch. “Come look!”
“What?” You stepped out of the kitchen, only to be greeted by a familiar face, smirking on the TV screen.
“Look at him! He’s this new hero, and he’s only 18! (Y/N)! He’s our age! Isn’t he hot?” She pointed at his flickering image. “His hero name is Hawks!” Squealing, she turned to you. “Isn’t that so cool?”
You stood in shock, the glass of water that you had been holding slipped from your fingers and shattered onto the floor. Liquid pooled around your feet, soaking your slippers, but you made no move to step aside.
“Woah! (Y/N), are you okay?” She jumped off the couch, rushing towards you. “Hey, (Y/N)? He’s cute and all but…this is a little bit much, isn’t it?” She looked at you with concern, eyebrows drawing tighter when you didn’t respond.
“(Y/N) …what’s wrong? You look like you just saw a ghost.”
Shaking yourself from your daze, you averted your eyes. “Ahh, I’m sorry. Uh…I just, I never thought I’d see him again.”
“Wait, you know him?” Your friend looked at you, surprised. “(Y/N) …did he do something to you?” She asked softly. “If he did, I don’t care how cute he is, I’m gonna kick his ass to high heaven if need be. Someone like that shouldn’t be a hero.”
You shook your head, chuckling a little. “No…no, there’s no need to do that. It’s just…it’s been a long time, and I just didn’t expect to see him.”
“Ahh. Well, step out of that puddle! Come on, let’s grab you some paper towels.”
Tumblr media
Hey!
It’s me, (Y/N). I…I saw you on TV today. You look…different. In a good way, I suppose. You’ve bulked up a bit.
You never used to smile like that though. Not like…like you were smiling for others. Seeing you smile for the camera, well…it made me sad.
But I’m happy that you’re ok. I think it would probably be hard for you to find me, since obviously I’m not on the news. So I’ll come find you instead, yeah? What do you say we catch up sometime?
I miss you. I’m in college now. I’m doing pretty good. You’re an overachiever, aren’t you? 18 years old and you already have your own agency.
Not that I’m complaining. Thanks for making it so easy for me to find you :)
So…let’s meet up sometime, when you have time? Maybe for some coffee? I know a quaint little place. It’s not too far away from your agency, three blocks to the right, turn left, and walk to the next intersection. It’s the corner shop. You can’t miss it.
I’ll wait for you there this Saturday, okay? I’ll do my work there. You can walk in whenever you have the time.
Your chicken, (Y/N)
Tumblr media
Saturday came faster than you could prepare yourself. You checked your reflection repeatedly in the mirror, double-guessing your outfit decisions.
What if he doesn’t like it?
Is this too formal for a coffee date?
“Hey, (Y/N)!” Your friend barged into the bathroom. “I saw all the clothes on your bed! Are you going on a date?”
“Uh…just a meeting with an old friend. To catch up,” you explained.
She looked at you suspiciously. “Old friend…is it that guy on TV? Hawks?”
You grew flustered. “Err…yeah. If he got my letter.”
She looked you up and down, then dragged you into her closet. “Good thing I just went on a shopping spree last weekend then!” She pumped a fist excitedly in the air. “I’m giving you a makeover!”
Two hours later, you stood in front of the bathroom mirror once more. Your friend had put you through every single possible combination of outfits using both your closet and hers, and you had to agree that she had impeccable taste.
“Come on, you’re going to be late!” She shoved you out of the bathroom.
“I didn’t set a time!” You protested, laughing.
“Well, get your ass out of here! My boyfriend’s coming over!”
“So that’s the real reason you want me gone, hmm?” You teased her.
“Shush! Get out!”
Tumblr media
Hawks was on patrol. You had been on his mind the entire week. Ever since your letter had reached his desk, he couldn’t stop thinking about you.
Thinking about you brought back happier times, and he wasn’t masochistic enough to give himself false hope.
No, it would be better for you to forget about him, and vice versa.
Still, he couldn’t stop himself. His body flew of its own accord, ignoring the sensibilities of his mind that screamed at it to stop.
Go back! The reasonable voice inside his head yelled.
Fly back!
His body refused to listen.
He found himself gently landing on a rooftop, right across the little café you told him to meet you at.
He even debated going inside. Just for a second. Just for a cup of coffee, to warm myself up in the chilly late-afternoon breeze, he told himself.
Then, he scoffed. Who was he kidding? If he went inside, he wouldn’t have the resolve to step back out before he saw you.
Shaking his head, he flew away as quickly as he could.
If he’d stayed a moment longer, he would’ve seen you walk down the street, humming a little tune to yourself.
Maybe then his resolve would’ve cracked.
Too bad he’ll never know.
Tumblr media
Sitting alone at a table for two was an unpleasant feeling. Especially when you’re on your third drink, the waitress keeps eyeing you with pity, and you couldn’t concentrate on your work.
“Miss?” The waitress stopped by your table again. “Sorry to bother you, but we’re closing in 15 minutes.”
You checked the time on your laptop. Crap. It was already 5:15.
“Oh yeah, uhh, sorry to bother you!” You chuckle awkwardly. You quickly packed your books and laptop, dropped a $20 bill on the table, and hurried out the door. Walking home in silence, you tried your best not to feel too disappointed.
Maybe he just didn’t have time?
It’s ok. You’ll just ask him again, another time.
Tumblr media
Another time.
You sent him countless letters. For the first year, at least. When he ignores all of them, you visit his agency in person.
As you walk through the glass doors, there’s a man sitting behind the reception desk.
“Hello, miss. How can I help you today?” He asks in the customary polite tone.
“I’m looking for Keigo. Hawks,” you answer, trying to hide your nervousness.
He looks at you suspiciously. “How do you know his first name?”
“We…we were childhood friends,” you tried to explain. “I…well, I haven’t seen him in a while.”
He took a closer look at you. “Can I ask for your name, miss?”
“(Y/N). (Y/N) (Y/L/N).”
He sighed. “I’m afraid that you’ll have to leave the premises, Miss (Y/L/N). You’re not allowed to be here.”
What?
He hadn’t kicked you out before you told him your name.
“Why-” you started, but he cut you off.
“Miss (Y/L/N). I’m afraid that I have to ask you to leave, and don’t come back. Should I call security to escort you out?”
Holding back tears, you clutched your purse close to your chest and hurried out the glass doors, wishing nothing more than to shatter them into pieces.
Tumblr media
You didn’t send any more letters after that.
Years pass. Every year on your birthday, Keigo gave you a feather.
“So I’ll always be with you,” he joked.
His feathers are extra durable, but time can wear down even the strongest things.
The last feather you got from him was ten years ago.
It can barely be considered a feather at this point, and you keep it in a special glass case so it can’t get any more worn down.
Ten years.
You’re turning 25 tomorrow.
Ten years of waiting around for him turned into ten years of watching him date other women. Ten years of hiding your pain every time another picture of him kissing a new girl graced the covers of the tabloids.
The first time, you cried yourself to sleep.
It wasn’t the last time.
Again and again, he breaks your heart.
By the third year, you convinced yourself to stop looking at the tabloids and the gossip sites.
By the fifth year, you scold yourself. You vow to stop crying over a stupid childhood crush.
By the seventh, you told yourself that you needed to forget about him. Step back into the dating ring, make out with someone else, and remove his presence entirely from your mind.
That didn’t work out.
Ten years.
It killed you to finally harden your resolve, but you told yourself that you couldn’t spend your whole life waiting for someone who was never going to love you back.
You’re turning 25 tomorrow, and you’re going to go on a date.
Tumblr media
He’s watching you. He always is.
It makes him feel like a creepy stalker, but he can’t help it.
He watches you as you step into the restaurant, decked out in formal wear that looked amazing on you.
Going on a date. With someone who wasn’t him.
He stays on the rooftop, watching you through a window as you ate and laughed.
He wishes that he was the one making you laugh, that he was the one helping you order food from the menu, that he was the one sharing a dessert with you.
He’s selfish like that. It never does him any good.
He’s scared, really. Scared of commitment, tarnished by his time spent in the work program.
He sees you as the one thing in life that they can’t take away from him. You have this innocence, this purity that you always carry around with you, because you’re a part of a time when his life wasn’t so complicated.
He doesn’t want to shatter that illusion.
He never reached out to you because he’s scared.
He’s scared that he’ll break you.
He stopped sending you feathers, heart splintering every time your birthday comes around, hoping you’ll eventually forget him.
Tumblr media
You don’t.
It’s not that you didn’t try.
No one else really interested you.
That is, until Masaki came along. He was bright, happy, always upbeat. He could find the words to cheer you up, to make a bad day that much better. He was attentive, caring, sweet.
He was everything that most people would look for in a partner.
And slowly, you began to open up to him too.
You fell into his embrace easier. You got a little happier when he came over for dinner.
You felt just a little safer when you were wrapped in his arms, a luxury you never thought you’d have.
Two years later, during a picnic date, he proposed.
You always had a love for picnic dates. Maybe because your first date, with Keigo, was a messy picnic affair during the spring, on top of a little hill where wildflowers bloomed and birds pecked at your leftovers.
Tumblr media
“Stop!” You giggled, whipped cream smeared all over your cheeks. “You’re going to get it on my clothes!”
Keigo laughed, then popped another strawberry in your mouth. “You can wash that off later, silly! Just have fun!”
“It’s not fun when my clothes are all sticky,” you whined. “You try it! It feels gross!”
He smirked. “Oh really?”
Taking a strawberry, he dipped it in the container of cream you had brought, then stuck it down his shirt.
“Ha! Take that!” He gloated.
You stared at him in shock. “Did you just–”
“Yes I did! And it’s not gross at all, see?” He plucked the strawberry back out and shoved it in his mouth.
“Eww! Kei, that’s disgusting!”
“No it’s not, it still tastes like a strawberry! Mphm!” He chewed, licking his fingers.
He regretted that decision later, when bees swarmed the front of his shirt.
“Eek!” He shrieked, hopping backwards.
“Kei, take off your shirt!”
“It’s so sticky!” He yelped, trying to peel the front of his shirt away from his chest.
“I told you!”
“Hey, now is NOT the time for the ‘I told you so’ speech, okay?” He finally ripped his shirt off.
You couldn’t help it. You cackled.
“What now?” He looked at the bees feasting on his ruined tee.
“I told you so,” you teased him.
Taking one look at the devious glint in his eyes, you scooped up the picnic supplies and raced down the hill.
He followed, wings beating, taking off into the air. He reached you within seconds, tacking you to the ground.
“Hey, that’s not fair!” You struggled against him. “You know you’re fast when you fly!”
He looked at you mischievously. “And what about it?”
“You can’t race me like that when I’m on foot!”
“Who said we were racing?” His eyes locked on your lips. “I was just trying to catch up to you.”
You blushed, suddenly realizing how close his face was to yours.
“Kei–” you started.
“Can I kiss you?” He interrupted you, then quickly blushed. “I mean, only if you want to-”
You wrapped your hands in his hair, interrupting him with a kiss.
He tasted like the remnants of strawberries and cream, sweet honey on a beautiful spring day.
And it was a beautiful spring day.
Perhaps the last beautiful spring day you’d ever have, for the next spring, he was gone.
Tumblr media
Beautiful spring days were few and far between. You’d learned that the hard way.
But today…you were inclined to think that it might be another one of those days.
Your boyfriend of two years had proposed on a beautiful spring day reminiscent of one long ago.
You supposed that this marked a series of firsts.
First date. First kiss. And now…a proposal.
You accept his proposal, tears in your eyes. He thinks that they’re tears of happiness, and in part, they are.
You don’t tell him that this was the one thing that you never thought you’d do. You feel like you’re betraying Keigo.
You have to remind yourself that he betrayed you first.
Tumblr media
Half a year later, you have a wedding. It’s a small wedding, with only your families and close friends. You considered reaching out to Hawks’s hero agency, but decided to spare yourself the pain.
He’d moved on. So would you.
Unbeknownst to you, when the ceremony rolled around, Keigo was standing on a nearby rooftop, the wind blowing away his tears.
He couldn’t believe how beautiful you were.
He knew that he couldn’t have you, but didn’t you know that he was a sucker for pain? Watching you repeat the vows was like getting punched full-force in the gut, but the wind never returned to his lungs.
He felt empty inside. Something essential was missing, and he knew what it was, but he also knew that he couldn’t ever have it. Not if he wanted you to stay alive.
As the ceremony finished, he flew away into the sunset, and you caught a glimpse of his crimson wings, purely on accident. You shook your head in disbelief.
“Now I’m hallucinating too,” you muttered to yourself.
But no matter how hard you tried to convince yourself you imagined the whole thing, that final view made it so much harder for you to forget him.
Tumblr media
Another year passed, and the seasons changed as they did. Spring flowing into summer, summer fading into autumn, autumn slowly drifting into winter.
Gradually, your new life engulfed you, the comfort of it all slowly draining away your doubts. Your husband was a good man. A faithful man. A caring man.
He held doors open for you and snuggled you on the couch. He played with your hair and made you breakfast in bed. He made it difficult for you not to love him.
You weren’t entirely sure you wanted to resist, anyways.
One night, you woke up in your shared bed, screaming in pain. Your lower back burned, almost as if you were getting branded.
Your husband woke up to the commotion. The bedsheets were stained with blood. Fresh, crimson, blood, all of it coming from you.
Whimpering, you laid limp as Masaki set you on your belly, trying to figure out the source of the injury. Taking a clean paper towel, he gingerly wiped the blood off of your raw skin, showing a tattoo emblazoned in gold ink.
Written in elegant cursive were three simple words.
Three words, but they hurt to look at.
(Y/N) …I’m sorry.
Your husband stared in shock. This didn’t happen. This couldn’t happen, could it? The only way someone got a tattoo like this was if their soulmate died, and, well…he was still very much alive.
He wasn’t your soulmate.
In this world, quirks weren’t the only strange thing.
Soulmates existed. But most never found out until it was too late.
When your soulmate died, their last words would be tattooed permanently on their other half’s skin in a bloody and painful process.
Their last moments would flash before the other’s eyes.
Nothing you could do. Nothing you could be sure of, until it was too late.
Tumblr media
Fires blazed everywhere.
Building after building, it ate away at the crumbling city, tearing down everything in its path.
“Help!” A voice choked out, raspy from smoke intake. “There’s a beam—ugh—on my leg. I can’t get it off!”
A winged figure crouched on a burning rooftop, out of breath and utterly exhausted.
Backup wasn’t coming.
The whole city was burning.
Standing shakily, he sent the last of his feathers off to help the trapped woman.
“That’s it for me then, I suppose,” his smile wobbled slightly. “My work here is done.”
He couldn’t risk jumping off of the roof. His wings were stubs on his back, and only a single feather remained.
“That’s not enough for me to fly off, now is it?” He chuckled mirthlessly. “Oh, if only you could see me right now, (Y/N). You’d be proud. Saved more than 500 people today, you know that?” He sighed, sitting down on the roof. “Lost count somewhere around there. You were always proud of me, weren’t you? The only one that believed in me when I told myself I couldn’t fly.
You’re the one that taught me to fly, remember, chicken? Those were the good times.
Look at me now. Talking to myself. Don’t even have the strength to fly down anymore.” He coughed into his hand, blood staining his palm. He grasped tightly onto a keychain around his neck, smearing the metal with crimson.
“I never did thank you. Guess it’s too late now.” He stared up at the sky, hues of orange and gold dancing across the horizon.
“Never did treat you right.” He plucked his last feather off of his back, twirling it around in his fingers.
“You were always too good for me. Too good for anyone, really.” He laid down on the roof, back no longer sensitive to the burning heat.
“I lost the right to love you a long time ago. I’ve got no business crying over you.” He chuckled bitterly. “But is that going to stop me?”
Letting go of the keychain and his feather, his hands went limp.
“(Y/N),” he sighed, closing his eyes. “I’m sorry.”
The roof collapsed, the hungry flames licking at the bottom finally swallowing him whole. His comms fell out of his ear, the plastic melting in the heat.
A single red feather floated down to the ground, charred and blackened.
The only remains of his body they’ll ever find.
Tumblr media
You were sobbing uncontrollably. Keigo.
He was your soulmate.
The boy you loved.
The one who’d abandoned you.
The one who you tried to forget.
He was your soulmate.
Your soulmate, who was dead.
“Turn…turn on the TV,” you whispered weakly. “Turn it on. I need to see.”
Masaki reached for the remote, flipping it on to the news channel.
“Earlier tonight, a bomb was detonated in Nagoya prefecture. Top heroes were on the scene, including Endeavor and Hawks, but their quirks are ill-suited to fight the conflagration. Endeavor has resorted to using brute strength to rescue people from the rubble, while Hawks hasn’t been seen since the beginning of the night. We are now reporting his status as MIA, and will continue to look for the Winged Hero, along with updating our reports on the status of missing civilians–”
You shut the TV off. You’d heard all you needed to.
Throwing on a mishmash of clothing, you sprinted out the door. Hailing a taxi, you hopped in before it had even screeched to a full stop.
“Hawks Hero Agency.” You told the driver, not bothering to mince your words. You hadn’t bothered to wipe all the blood off of your back either, so it was gradually staining your coat a deep crimson, a mocking parody of the way that Keigo’s feathers used to lay against his back.
His feathers that were burnt, charred, turned to ashes, no longer able to bring you the comfort they once had when they wrapped you in a warm embrace.
The driver looked concerned. “Miss, do you know what happened today? Hawks isn’t–”
“Yes, I know. Drive.”
You pressed your forehead against the window, breath steaming up the glass. It reminded you of one winter, when the two of you had been building snowmen, and your mother called you in for dinner.
Tumblr media
“Kei, I have to go,” you tugged at his hand.
“Aww, (Y/N),” he kicked at an unfortunate stone with the scuffed toe of his boot. “Why can’t you stay a little longer? We haven’t finished his head yet.” He pouted.
“I can’t, Kei,” you tried to make him release his iron grip on your hand. “Mama’s gonna get mad.”
“Then I’ll make you stay!” He boldly declared, wrapping his little arms around your frame, tackling you to the snow-covered ground.
The two of you giggled, engaged in a tickle war, your mom’s voice fading into the distance.
“(Y/N) (Y/L/N)!” Your mom yelled, marching over to where the two of you lay, tangled in a heap. “Do you want to get a cold?”
“No, Mama,” you said, slowly getting up and dusting the snow off of your parka. “I’m coming.” You turned around and poked your tongue out at your friend, letting your mom drag you back into your house.
Keigo sat in the snow for a while longer, not exactly excited to go back to his house.
Suddenly, an idea popped into his head.
He beat his little wings as fast as he could, half flying, half stumbling to your kitchen window.
Sneaking a peek inside, he saw you staring questioningly back at him. Not bothering to hide his mischievous grin, he puffed out a breath, steaming the window, took his little glove off, and started writing.
“D O  Y O U  W A N T  T O  F L Y  W I T H  M E ?” He painstakingly wrote out.
You shook your head, and his grin quickly dropped from his face. Looking down, he almost missed the words you mouthed out.
“I can’t read it!” You tried your best to sign. “It’s backwards!”
“Oh!” He tried his best to write the mirror image of what he had just written, making sure that you could read it from your point of view this time. You read his little message, a grin taking over your face.
“Y E S!” You mouthed. “YES, YES, YES!”
Quickly scarfing down your dinner, you waved a hasty goodbye to your mom, racing out the back door, only to get tackled into the snow.
“Come on, let’s go!” He took ahold of your hand. “Race you!”
“You can’t race me if you’re holding my hand!” You shrieked in delight. “Stop it!”
He paused, turning around. “Hmm. Well, maybe I don’t want to race you then,” he looked at you with a small smile on his face. “I wanna try something new!”
“Oh?” You asked, seeing the way his eyes lit up with delight. “What is it?”
“I wanna fly! With you!”
Giggling, he turned you around so that your back was facing him. He circled his arms below your armpits.
“Hang on!” He flapped his wings as fast as he could, kicking up a storm of snow around you. To his surprise, he actually managed to lift the two of you off the ground for around 3 feet or so. He wasn’t expecting it to work on his first try, but the two of you really were flying!
Tumblr media
Sighing, you turned away from the window.
Happier times, you chuckled mirthlessly.
Isn’t it sad that I’m only remembering them now?
The car screeched to a stop at the front door to the Hawks Hero Agency.
You stepped into the lobby, the fluorescent lights blinding.
It’s the middle of the night, but they don’t seem to mind, you thought. Everyone was bustling around the place like it was normal.
The receptionist had changed since you’d last been here.
She spotted you and hurried over, most likely because of the blood staining your clothes.
“Miss, are you hurt?” She gave you a once-over. “Can I help you?”
You stared at her in shock for a moment. What were you here for again?
“Oh…uh,” you wrung your hands nervously. “I’m here for Hawks.”
Her expression of concern melted away into one of annoyance. “Another fangirl. This one appears to be married too,” she scoffed at the band adorning your left ring finger. “People these days…” she muttered underneath her breath, already hurrying back to her desk, where the phone rang incessantly.
“No. I’m not a fangirl.” You lifted your head. You might be in pain, but damned if you were going to let a stranger strip you of the remaining shreds of your dignity.
“I’m his soulmate.”
The way you said that phrase with such conviction made the lady pause.
“Soulmate?” She questioned. Girls had tried this trick on her before, but…when asked to prove themselves, they merely responded with “oh, it’s just a feeling,” or “I just know it.”
Never once had anyone said this phrase with such confidence.
“Yes.” You shut your eyes, defiantly holding back tears. “You have comms, right? What did he say before the comms died?”
The lady stared back at you, a pang of sorrow shooting its way into her heart. You weren’t joking around, were you?
“I…yes, yes we do. What’s your name, miss?”
You sucked in a deep breath. “(Y/N). (Y/N) (Y/L/N).”
She stared at you for another moment, then quietly pulled out her comms.
“He said…” she choked a little. “He said, ‘(Y/N) …I’m sorry.’ We weren’t sure who he was talking about. We assumed it was a civilian he wasn’t able to save,” she pressed the back of her hand to her mouth. “Oh God…”
Quietly, she choked out another question. “Was it…was he talking about…you?”
You didn’t want to reply. You’d heard enough.
The lady didn’t try to stop you as you ran to the elevator, your fingertip pressing the “up” button so hard it bruised.
Quickly looking at the directory, you found his office.
“420.” You choked out a pained laugh. “He always did like messing around with people.”
Collapsing against the corner of the elevator, you wrapped your arms around your knees and lowered your head. You felt so goddamn tired.
Why did it have to be you?
Why couldn’t he break someone else’s heart?
Someone who was stronger?
Someone who could take this in stride and move on?
Why did the universe choose you?
The elevator bell dinged, rousing you from your thoughts. You stood up slowly, a trail of blood staining the place where you once sat.
Crimson, like the trail of feathers he’d (perhaps intentionally) shed during that game of hide and seek.
You buried your face into your hands.
Goddamnit, Keigo! Why does everything have to remind me of you?
You made your way into his office, most likely the messiest of all the top pro-hero offices. Paperwork was scattered everywhere, jackets strewn across the floor. You even saw a shoelace string laying on the carpet next to his desk.
It’s almost as if he’d always expected to come back.
Stepping cautiously over the objects that littered the ground, you came face-to-face with a cabinet next to his desk.
Snowglobes. So many snowglobes.
Snowglobes occupied every shelf of the cabinet, and the glass doors made it easy to examine the contents.
You squinted closely at them. They were all…different angles of the same scene, you realized.
The snow park above your houses.
He’d had snowglobes made.
They immortalized the place where the two of you played all day in the snow.
The place where he first learned how to fly, gliding off the hills like a paraglider.
The place where he’d picked you up and learned how to fly with another person’s life in his hands, hugging you close to his chest, reveling in your warmth.
In the spring, it was the place where he took you on your first picnic date.
The place where the two of you shared your first kiss.
The place where he left you his goodbye note, tucked away under the grounding weight of a boulder you used to lay on, basking in the sun’s warmth.
He’d had 12 snowglobes made. Your lucky number.
12 different angles that showcased the same scenery.
Suddenly, your legs wouldn’t carry your weight anymore. You leaned back into his chair, still smelling faintly of his scent.
How can someone’s scent not change over 13 years?
You closed your eyes, and quickly opened them again when you saw a pile of letters on the corner of the desk.
You weren’t sure why they caught your eye. They weren’t anything special, really. Plain white envelopes addressed in plain black print.
You took a closer look.
That was your name on the envelopes.
You leaned closer, quickly shuffling through them all.
Each and every single one of them was addressed to you.
Each and every single one of them was dated a year apart.
Each and every single one of them was marked for your various addresses over the years, his handwriting steadily improving.
You couldn’t resist your curiosity. Taking a paper cutter, you tore through the seal of the earliest envelope.
A single red feather, beautifully preserved, floated out.
You stared in shock. He…he didn’t forget.
He never forgot.
He just chose not to send it.
Hurriedly opening the remaining envelopes, you acquired more feathers, each fresher than the last.
By the end, you had a pile of 13 crimson feathers, right next to 13 shredded envelopes.
You looked around, confused. Why hadn’t he left a note? Any note?
Did he…did he never write letters?
You knew that you had sent him letters.
Maybe they did throw them out as spam.
Your curiosity piqued, you pulled open drawer after drawer, but none of them held anything of personal importance.
Finally, you came upon the bottom right drawer.
It was locked, you realized.
You carefully place the feathers back in their respective envelopes. Sealing them up once again, you carry them in a stack, making your way downstairs.
The agency workers saw you with the letters in your arms, not sure if they should stop you or not. When you looked to the receptionist and murmured a quiet “thank you”, they stood their ground. If she was okay with you walking away like this, then there shouldn’t be a reason that they wouldn’t be.
The taxi driver who took you here was still waiting outside. Seeing you arrive, he stomped out his cigarette butt and opened the backseat door for you.
“Rough night, miss?” He looked at your back, pity obvious in his expression. “Do you want me to take you to a hospital with that?”
You shook your head. “They can’t fix that. Do you remember the way we came?”
“Aye, yes I do,” he stepped into his own seat. “I’ll take you there right quick, miss. Don’t you worry.”
As you rode back home in silence, you couldn’t stop thinking about the cabinet in Keigo’s office.
The feathers, folded away safely in the envelopes you were holding.
If he never forgot, why did he never reach out?
The car door slamming shook you from your daze. “Miss, you’re back home.”
You stared at the man, realizing that you didn’t have your wallet on you.
“Do you mind waiting a second? I’ll go get my wallet now–”
He shook his head. “I know where that blood came from. See here?” He rolled up his sleeve.
“Got mine when I was 22,” a melancholy smile framed his face. “Rare, right? I never did find out who she was.
But the hospital staff helped me that day. Looked for deaths around my age, and then when I tried to pay ‘em, they refused. Said ‘twas only the right thing to do. Now I finally get to repay the favor. Don’t you go tryna pay me now. Won’t ‘ccept it.”
He leaned back against the hood of his car. When you opened your mouth to object, he merely saluted you, hopped back into the driver’s seat, and drove off into the night.
You turned to your house. The lights were still on inside, meaning your husband was still up. He probably couldn’t sleep, not after what had just happened. You couldn’t blame him.
Stepping inside, you heard muffled sobs coming from the kitchen.
“Masaki?” You leaned on the doorframe. He looked up at your voice.
“(Y/N)?” He rose from the table. “You’re…you’re okay,” he wrapped you in a hug.
You cleared your throat. “…yeah. Yeah, I’m okay,” you hugged him back.
I’m okay, you tried to convince yourself.
“Where did you go?” He looked at you curiously. Finally seeing the envelopes in your arms, he paused.
“Babe?” He asked softly. “Did you…did you know him?”
You buried your face into his chest. “Yeah…yeah, I did.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” He asked softly.
“Not really…not now…” you replied.
He patted your back lightly. “That’s ok. I understand.”
The rest of the night went by in a blur. The letters were scattered on your nightstand, your husband helping you into the shower. He’s changed the bloody sheets already, but the stains on the mattress were stubborn and refused to come out.
Crimson stains, in the shape of wings.
Tumblr media
Days later, some people from the agency stopped by your house.
“Is there a (Y/N) (Y/L/N) at this address?” The receptionist from your earlier encounter knocked on the door.
“Uh, hi. Yeah, that’s me,” you answered, not bothering to change out of your bathrobe. Your complexion had grown waxen, face shallow. Your hair formed an unkempt nest, spiraling around your face.
She gave you a smile, pity etched in her face. It disgusted you, really.
All anyone ever gave you nowadays was pity. Pity cards from your coworkers, although you weren’t sure how the information leaked out. Pitiful glances from your husband, who insisted on doing all the chores around the house.
Pity, pity, pity.
“What is it?” You asked her.
“We have some…documents for you.” She waved over two guys, each lugging a large crate of…paper?
“Wait…all that? For me?” You were confused. There was no way that that bottom drawer, even if all it contained were letters, had that much paper in it.
“Yes, (Y/L/N)-san. It’s all for you.” The men dropped off their crates at your door.
“What’s going on?”
“These were stored in the records house. Hawks filed them. They were all addressed to you, so we felt that this was the proper treatment.”
“We’ll leave you to go through these in your own time.” She started down the steps. Then, as if remembering something suddenly, she paused.
“You know…he was a good man,” she smiled gently. “We all knew he had a secret someone. We just didn’t know who they were. I’m glad he found you. Hero work is dangerous, especially for top heroes like him.
I hope that you find joy in those letters.” She turned back and finished her journey down the steps.
You turned around and looked at the crates.
Found me?
You smiled bitterly, a brittle coldness taking over your heart.
He never really did find me, did he?
Sighing, you sorted through the crates, looking for the ones that were dated the earliest. You carried the oldest set of letters into the bedroom and tore open the first envelope.
Tumblr media
Hey, (Y/N). It’s me, Kei.
I hope you haven’t forgotten about me. I mean, I’m not an easy person to forget, I suppose, but it has been a while. Three years, to be exact.
Three years can do a lot to a person.
I should know.
How are you doing? I hope you managed to keep Timothy alive. You were always prone to overwatering him.
I’m not sure how long cacti live, but…if you nurture something, anything can happen, right?
I’m a hero now. I’m sure you know. My debut was broadcasted all over national television. They just can’t resist making themselves look good, can they?
At least now I’m allowed to write. I hope you understand why I haven’t written to you in so long.
I didn’t forget about you. How could I? Even though we were only 15, how could I forget someone like you?
I missed you. I don’t think you understand how much. It felt so empty, living without you by my side. Like…like I wasn’t ever warm enough, even bundled in the tightest blankets. I was always missing you.
Sounds like a curse, eh?
But don’t worry. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I just wanted you to know that.
Yours, Kei.
Tumblr media
Ripping open letter after letter, you realized that you held his entire life story in your hands.
Tumblr media
Hey chicken. It’s Kei again.
Realized I’ve been treating these letters as a kind of diary. I guess it’s…therapeutic? Even though I know I’ll never send these. I don’t want to put you in danger, you know?
Do you remember when we were kids?
We had all the time in the world to do whatever we wanted.
I miss that time.
Not as much as I miss you though.
I check in on you every so often, but I make sure you never see.
False hope is a dangerous thing. It shatters your soul into pieces, and when you try and piece them back together, it cuts your heart so badly you wish you’d never started.
But, you see, you’re like a drug for me.
I can’t seem to stop myself. No matter how bad it hurts, I…I still come back.
You wouldn’t know, of course.
I suppose there’s a reason it hurts when you stare into the sun.
I’m already broken, yeah? I don’t want you to break with me.
The thing is, I know you’d want to. I know we promised we’d always come back for each other. We promised we’d always be here for each other.
But some promises were meant to be broken.
You can’t be here for me, birdie. You’ll get hurt.
That would hurt me more than anything else, (Y/N).
So for my own safety, and yours…
This is the last time I’ll write to you.
I have to move on, or else those pieces of my soul?
They’re already in splinters, but if I keep going like this, they’ll be nothing more than powder, and I don’t think I could go on like that, yeah?
I love you, forever and always.
Kei.
Tumblr media
Ha. Guess what.
What I said in the last letter?
A fucking lie.
I physically. Can’t stop.
The thought of not writing to you breaks me more than the thought of never being with you, and that’s a milestone I never thought I’d be able to pass.
So here I am again.
You’ve already heard my entire life story.
I wish I could be there to hear yours.
I saw you tonight, standing on your balcony. You know, the stars were so bright tonight. Reminded me of your eyes the first time I flew with you around the whole field, yeah?
Sparkling. You never stop sparkling, do you?
You know…do you ever wonder who your soulmate is?
I know that the world is cruel. I know that we don’t know exactly who our soulmates are until one of us dies.
But…do you ever think about it?
Who’s out there, just waiting for you?
Because I do.
And sometimes, when I’m at rock bottom, I’ll imagine that we’re soulmates.
I’ll create scenarios in my head. We’d be happily married. I’d spoon-feed you ice cream.
We’d play tickle wars with my feathers, have pillow fights, binge TV shows.
We’d watch horror movies, and you’d hide your face in my chest the whole time.
But…those scenarios always make me feel worse after I wake up. Because they’re not real.
And I…I so desperately want them to be real.
But you can’t always get what you wish for, yeah?
Going on a big mission soon. Undercover. Cool, right?
You’d be proud of me, I think, if you saw me.
I have to go now. But I’ll come back safe for you, yeah?
I know you won’t wait for me. I want you to wait for me, but…I know it’s not in your best interests. Probably not in mine either.
Sometimes I try and convince myself that it’s okay to be selfish. I want what I want, and you only live once, right?
But then I realize that you’re the one I’d be putting in danger.
And that’s when I realize you can’t ever stay with me.
It’s okay. I’ll watch from afar.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stop loving you.
Yours,
Kei.
Tumblr media
You put the letter down and rummaged through the second crate, desperately trying to find the last letter that he wrote.
Tumblr media
Hey birdie. Long time no see. Ha.
13 years and I still can’t forget about you. Doesn’t seem normal, does it?
I’m convinced that we’re soulmates, but then again, I may have convinced myself. You know…I used to hate the idea of soulmates. Sharing your life with another person, seen as incomplete without them?
Sharing my soul?
Bunch of crap, right? I like making my own decisions. Wasn’t ever much of a rule-stickler. But…you know…I’m starting to warm up to that idea.
But only with you.
And that’s why I’m convinced that we are, in fact, soulmates.
You don’t know how my heart breaks every time I see you. Manual is a good guy. I know he’s treating you well.
That’s the only reason I’m letting you stay married to him, really. If it was anyone else, I would’ve busted their ass.
But…you deserve someone like him. Someone who can give you their all.
Someone who, if you date them…they won’t lead you into danger.
Soulmates are a finicky concept, yeah?
So…I guess we’ll never know ‘till one of us dies.
Yours,
Kei.

Epilogue
Rainy winter days were the saddest days of the year.
Especially today.
Strolling through the park, you held a black umbrella in one hand and clutched a glass case tightly in the other.
You stopped in front of a marble headstone.
“Hey there,” your voice cracked.
“Miss me?”
A whistling wind, scattering powdered snow and frozen rain across the landscape, was your only answer.
“Kei, I–” You collapsed onto your knees, uncaring of whether or not the cold would seep in. It couldn’t get colder than your soul now, anyways.
“I…I didn’t go to your funeral.” Tears rolled down your cheeks, leaving a silvery sheen in their wake. “There were too many people and I…I couldn’t handle it.”
“But…Kei…” You choked out an ugly sob. “Why didn’t you send me the fucking letters?”
“I don’t care how dangerous your work was. You can’t get anywhere without taking risks in life, Kei!” You screamed at the marble façade, willing it to crumble.
“You can’t–”
“You can’t make my decisions for me!”
“I should be the one who gets to choose who I love!”
Your screams attracted the attention of several bystanders, who quickly averted their eyes and walked away when they saw your distraught state.
“You shouldn’t have tried to choose for me!”
“And now–”
“You’re dead, Kei! What am I supposed to do now?” Your tears pooled on the frozen ground, marking little dents in the snow.
You slammed your fists into the ground, the glass case in your hand cracking.
Another ugly sob made its way out.
“Kei–” you whimpered.
The glass shattered, splintering into thousands of tiny pieces, each fragment glittering like diamonds.
Slivers found their way into your palm.
Crimson blood, the color of the worn-out feather freed from its enclosure, splattered the snow-white ground.
“Kei,” you whispered, carefully placing the feather on top of the chiseled marble.
“Wherever you are, I hope you’re happy.”

                                Chapter 8: Pluto
Life with Spencer wasn’t easier but it sure was better.
It had been about 9 months now since the two of you started dating and you knew it would be rough. The two of you traveled a lot for work so it was a lot of missed calls, texts, and video chats in the beginning but now you’d say the two of you got a grip on what you both wanted which was each other. Around month 6, Spencer asks you to move in with him. At first you say no, and you keep saying no until around month 8 when Spencer gets shot on the job and you take care of him and just never leave. Not that he was complaining, it was what he’s wanted since Month 2.
You met the team officially and without impending danger around month 2 as well. Emily and Derek who you already knew through the investigation welcomed you back with open arms and tequila shots at the bar you met them at. JJ took a while to warm up to you which you completely understood from how you left but she warmed up to you when she realized just how much you loved Spencer and how much you regretted pushing him away.
You and Penelope Garcia got along like a house on fire which everyone expected the two genius women to. Though her sunny, social disposition and your quiet, mellow one didn’t mix on paper pretty soon you guys were trading baked goods and having sleepovers. It was nice, you never had girl friends you could be yourself around but you found that in them.
Spencer was still Spencer.
In some ways, he was still the man you met in the observatory of your job, and in some ways he was very different. He was definitely a lot more touchy than you thought he’d be, seemingly unable to be in the same room as you without touching you in some way. Not that that was unwelcome, you loved him all the same. He was still that nerdy guy who whenever he read something or found out something new about your field he’d call you up and immediately to tell you about it. And you would sit and listen intently, never having the heart to tell him it was something you already knew. You liked to hear him talk anyway.
You still found out a couple of things too. One being that Spencer gets extremely jealous and you found this out around Month 7 of your relationship, your first official fight. He had come to surprise you at work and you were helping the new Doctor hired on the Terra-Mora project get acclimated with the space. You didn’t think anything of the guy other than he was overly friendly but when Spencer came in and saw the fairly attractive man lingering a hand on your back he became livid.
The car ride home was awkward because you could tell something was up with Spencer though he wasn’t saying anything. “What’s wrong?” You asked.
“Nothing, bunny.” He says, you can’t help the smile that crosses  your face at the nickname but you knew there was something wrong.
“Okay so there has to be something up. So out with it.”
He’s silent for a moment. “How’s working with Dr. Sutton?”
“Landon?” You ask. He gives you a look when you refer to the man by first name but you choose to ignore it.  “It’s fine. He’s better at math and he’s been nice.”
“Bet he has.” Spencer mutters under his breath.
“Ok, what is that?” You ask.
“Why did you just call him Landon just now?”
“His name is Landon….?”
“Every person you work with you refer to as Doctor, you even refer to yourself as Dr. L/N when talking about work.” He points out. “In fact, the only other person you didn’t do that for was Jonathan, who you had feelings for. So why is he ‘Landon’?”
“He asked me to call him Landon.” You shrug. “You almost sound jealous, Spence.” You can’t help the small chuckle that leaves you when you say it because it was ridiculous to even think about. You loved Spencer. You couldn’t imagine your life without him or even fathom wanting anyone but him but when you saw the look he gave you back when you said it you knew that was exactly the case.
“You wanna tell me what this is actually about now?” You question.
“Why didn’t you say I was your boyfriend?” He whispers.
“What?” You say, confused. You park the car in front of your apartment and turn fully towards Spencer.
“You didn’t say I was your boyfriend, you called him Landon…”
“Baby, I didn’t even realize I didn’t do that.” You say, looking into his eyes. “If I did it’s because everyone knows who you are.” You say, cupping the side of his face with one of your hands, he instantly leans into the touch. “My genius boyfriend, who works for the FBI and saved my life. I talk about you constantly because I am happy and proud to be yours. That you still took a chance on me even though I pushed you away and treated you like shit in the beginning. I am never trying to hide you and you have no reason to be jealous because I don’t see anyone else when I’m with you, ok?” You say, Spencer smiles and leans over the center console to kiss you and just like every time Spencer kisses you, you contemplate the likelihood that the earth could stop its rotation because it seemed that the world stood still every time you were together like this. When you pulled away, you leaned your forehead against Spencers for a second, catching your breath.
“Plus you really have no reason to be jealous.” You add. “Me and Landon spent most of the morning talking about our boyfriends.”
Spencer looks at you with a wide eyed expression. “You mean, he’s--”
“Yup.” You cut off. Getting out of the car, Spencer follows you. “You should get jealous more though. It’s kinda hot.” You shrug. Spencer rolls his eyes at you.
-----------------------------------------------------
On your one year anniversary, you go to your first date spot which was the Planetarium. You rolled your eyes at the time when Spencer suggested the date saying that you’d both just end up annoying the tour guide. In the end, you ended up with a 16  year old named Anna, who had the same twinkle in her eye when she talked about Space that you had as a child. You ended up shushing Spencer every now and again so you could listen to the young girl tell you about the planets you both knew so much about. At the end of the tour, you told her who you were and that if she wanted an internship at NASA after high school to give you a call. She smiled excitedly at you and hugged you, which you returned before apologizing profusely for hugging you. When you and Spencer were walking to get food after that he asked the question.
“Do you want kids?” He says.
“Whoa!” You laugh. “Big ask for a first date.”
“I’m sorry, you were just so cute with the tour guide that--It’ll come up eventually is all.”
“I do want kids someday.” You say, smiling at the man. “I never thought it was in the cards for me but I would love kids someday. What about you?”
“I never thought it was in the cards for me either but I like the idea of having a family.” He says, reaching for your hand. You smile at him again and the topic never comes back up.
You guys head to the Planetarium again and Anna is still working there, finishing up her senior year. She lets you guys venture around without a guide this time and you and Spencer just sit in the auditorium alone, talking softly at the fake constellations that pass by.
After, you ask if you guys can skip dinner to go to the observatory just to see if you can get a peak at Gaia tonight as the sky seemed pretty clear. Spencer smiles and obliges you as the two of you head over to your job. The night security guard just nods at the two of you as you walk in, having come accustomed to your late nights and Spencer accompanying you.
Spencer sits a ways while you set everything up, booting up your computer and positioning your telescope. The two of you settle into a comfortable silence as you often did around each other. You felt slightly bad, it was your anniversary and Spencer was indulging you just like always. He was really way too good for you. You look up at him and smile, which he instantly returns before you turn your attention to the telescope.
That’s when you see it.
Gaia.
Fully visible from earth for the first time in what could have been a millennium.
You scream out of happiness and Spencer looks up at you raising a brow as you run for your tape recorder.  Gesturing for him to come look. He looks into the telescope as you type into your computer for a second, making sure your telescope was taking the pictures you needed, before speaking into your recorder.
“This is Dr. Y/N L/N. I am accompanied by Dr. Spencer Reid. The date is April 12th 2014. For the first time ever Planet KXSY-1029 or Alias Gaia is Fully visible from earth!” You turn off the recorder and jump into your boyfriend’s arms. He instantly catches you and spins you around before kissing you fully on your lips. You moan into his mouth slightly as his tongue meets yours but eventually he pulls away but he is still lifting you fully.
“Do you realize how big tonight is? This is probably the only time anyone in centuries will be able to see her until we actually start human trials and it’s the only time it’ll probably ever be visible from earth and WE were here for it! This is amazing! This night cannot get bette--”
“Marry me.” Spencer says, looking into your eyes.
Your eyes widen, as Spencer sets you down on the ground. “What?” You ask.
“I was going to ask at dinner.” He says pulling a ring out of his jacket pocket and getting down on one knee. You feel tears welling in your eyes.
“I ruined your whole plan.” You say.
“No! No, you didn’t. Because seeing you react to seeing Gaia just now reminded me exactly why I wanted to marry you.” Spencer says, grabbing your hands. “Did you know the greek goddess Gaia in creating the earth, gave humans four arms, four legs and a head with two faces. And Zeus, fearing their power, split them in half and that’s where the soulmates come from?” He asks, you shake your head and more tears fall as he rubs small circles with his thumb on the back of your hand. “Y/N, you are the single most caring, passionate, amazing person I know. And if I could go back and change anything about how we met and when we met, I wouldn’t. If I could take away your hurt and tragedy, I would but I feel like everything I’ve ever done, everything that’s ever happened to me, was designed to lead me to you. Meeting you, loving you was the first time in my life I felt truly like myself, like I was half a person until meeting you made me whole again.” He tears up as he looks you in the eyes. “So, Y/N… Will you marry me? Please.” He adds softly.
You nod fast, tears falling more than they were before as you give him a wet smile. “Yes, Spencer! Of course!” You laugh as Spencer smiles up at you as he slides the ring onto your finger. He gets up and kisses you passionately, hands cradling your face. When you pull apart, he hugs you tightly. You breathe in his scent and look behind him at the images of Gaia on your screens. You thought back to the story Spencer had just told you about soulmates and how before you met Spencer you were just going through the motions of life, feeling incomplete and never knowing what was missing. You seemed to have everything you wanted. Your dream job and life. It wasn’t until being with Spencer you realized what was missing. That he was missing.
In the end, you were just two halves.
Made whole by Gaia.

Spencer’s arms were wrapped tightly around your frame, reminding you without the use of words that he will never let you go again. His hot breath hit the back of your neck. It sent a gentle shiver down your spine causing you to flutter your eyes open. As you adjusted to the bright morning hues, you could feel his heart beating against you and a sleepy smile circled your lips.
There was no better feeling than waking up next to Spencer.
With him by your side, greeting the day was easy. It came slow and relaxed, as if the universe was commanding you to bask in this comfort for just a little while longer.
This is what harmony really felt like.
The second you stirred in your comfortably warm spot, and turned so you could admire the sleeping man next to you, he also opened his eyes. A smile instantly graced his features.
“Good morning, doctor.” You whispered and leaned over to peck his soft lips.
“Hmm... Good morning, how did you sleep?” The handsome doctor asked, his hand travelling to your face and brushing away any signs of sleep. You swayed into his touch like a magnet before replying; “Would you believe me if I said it was the best sleep I’ve had in months?”.
Spencer chuckled airily, his hand still caressing along your cheek. “I don’t know if I believe you, but I definitely am flattered.”
“As you should be, doctor.”
In a split-second, his lips slanted over yours in one of those open-mouthed kisses, tender yet extremely passionate. His fingers tangled in your hair, as he pulled you in as close as it was humanely possible. It always amazed you how your lips fit so perfectly together like two puzzle pieces.
After what felt like a glorious eternity, the brunette doctor slowly drew away. He placed a gentle kiss to the tip of your nose before rolling onto his back, one arm draped beneath your neck and hand resting on your shoulder.
“What would you like to do today?” Spencer asked, looking up at the ceiling. You contemplated his question for a moment, but before you got a chance to answer, the sound of your phone ringtone caught your attention.
Sitting up, you reached over to the bedside table and quickly answered the incoming call, “Hello?”
“Oh thank god, you’re alive!” Penelope breathed a sigh of relief on the other line. “We were all worried sick! I even stayed with Tara last night just in case you came back here.”
“I’m okay, don't worry guys.” You replied, glancing briefly at Spencer who has since gotten out of bed. He leaned down to kiss your cheek and exited the bedroom to give you some privacy.
“Well, you’ll get a talking to about not calling or texting later. But for now, how did it go? Tell me everything!” She asked and you couldn't help but giggle, “It went well, Pen. Like really well.” You replied.
Garcia squealed. “AHH! I am so happy for you, sugar plum! You and our lovely resident genius are just meant for each other. A match made in heaven!”
The smile gracing your features grew wider by the second. “Yeah, I’m glad it worked out in the end.”
“Like I knew it would! Now, you get back to whatever it is you were doing and I’m going to update Tara with this wonderful news. Should I tell her she needs to start looking for a new roommate?” She teased, and you rolled your eyes.
“Firstly, nothing untoward is happening.” You began, but Garcia was quick to interrupt you,“Riiight... I’m gonna pretend like I believe you, honey. Love you, have a great day and we can catch up on Monday.”
“Love you too, Pen.” You giggled back before the call ended.
Gradually, you scrambled out of bed and with a light bounce to your step, you joined the hazel-eyed doctor in the kitchen - where the smell of freshly brewed coffee overpowered your senses.
“So, how much trouble did you get in?” Spencer teased, as you rested your body weight against the counter next to him.
“Surprisingly, none at all.” You replied with a shrug. “She’s happy for us.”
Spencer glanced at you briefly, a smile circling his lips. “That makes two of us.” He stated in a low tone and you blushed ever so faintly.
“I forgot just how charming you can be, doctor.” You reacted, earning yourself a kind-hearted laugh. The melodic sound caused your heart to flutter, and you proceeded to tilt your head up and attach your lips to his.
The kiss was short and sweet, reminiscent of many you’ve shared previously. When you pulled apart, Spencer handed you a cup of coffee, and the two of you made your way to his couch.
“Have you given any thought as to what you’d like to do today?” He asked before pressing the mug to his mouth and taking a sip.
“Well, we’ve a lot of catching up to do, doctor.” You replied, throwing your legs over his lap. “I honestly wouldn't know where to start.”
“Y/N, we’ve our whole lives to make up for lost time.” He retorted, and you couldn't help but smile at the thought of growing old with him. “Let’s just take today to enjoy each others company. The sun is out, maybe you want to go for a walk? Or we can stay in and watch a movie?” He suggested.
You took a quick sip of your coffee. “We could actually do both of those things today, doctor. And if you’re good, I can even cook us dinner later.”
Spencer smirked. “If I’m good?”
You nodded, a stupid grin plastered across your face.
Truth be told, you had forgotten just how effortless everything was with Spencer. Your mind was continuously flooded with memories of your time with him. Even when you were apart, you’d get bombarded with thoughts of how uncomplicated the most menial tasks were with him. Although those memories didn’t compare to the serenity you were experiencing right now. Nothing compared to living in the moment with him, again.
The day you spent with Spencer had an unsurprising natural flow to it.
The brunette doctor first drove you to Tara’s, so that you could shower and change out of the pyjamas he lent you. While he waited for you to get ready, he enjoyed a conversation with Tara and Penelope. A conversation about the diamond ring he still carried with him everywhere - but that wasn't for you to know.
The four of you enjoyed a nice breakfast before the girls waved you off for the day. Spencer took the liberty of choosing the park for your walk. Hand in hand, the two of you looped around the paths for hours. Hours of laughing, chatting, and reminiscing. Hours of pure unfiltered joy.
Next stop on the unspoken agenda was the grocery store. Arguably one of your favourite places to go to, especially with the handsome doctor. While you picked out what you needed, Spencer guessed the ingredients of each item you placed in the metal cart. It was no surprise he was always correct, but honestly, that almost made the game more fun.
Back at his apartment, he helped you unpack the bags and proclaimed himself your sous chef. You wanted to protest, tell him to sit down and to let you cook alone, but Spencer wasn't having any of it - “My kitchen, my rules.”. The statement earned him an eye roll because you were sure the last person to actually cook anything proper in his kitchen was you, years ago.
With his... assistance, it took about three hours to make a simple recipe. And once you were finished, the kitchen looked as if a tornado had passed through it.
“Looks like we’ve an evening activity lined up.” Spencer joked, analysing the mess around, and you couldn't help but let out a laugh.
“Can’t wait.” A detectable hint of sarcasm in your voice.
The two of you ate in congenial silence - the first one of that day. It didn’t bother either of you, however. If anything the moment proved just how comfortable and at home you felt around one another.
The move to the couch after dinner was effortless. Spencer picked a movie, one you’ve both seen before so you could cuddle up to one another and talk about random topics without worrying about missing the plot.
It wasn’t until Spencer’s phone rang that you realised how disconnected from the outside world you’ve both been all afternoon.
“I’ll grab it for you, doctor.” You quickly jumped up on your feet before Spencer could do anything. You briskly shuffled around the sofa until you reached the coat hanger by the front door. As you searched the pockets of his jacket for the phone, your fingers brushed against something else.
The ringing stopped when you retrieved the item.
“Spencer, what’s this?” You asked, brows furrowed together.
The brunette doctor turned around. His gaze travelled to the small box you were holding up and he swallowed his breath. Shit. He completely forgot that was inside his jacket, which was ironic considering his eidetic memory. Not to mention the fact he’d been carrying it everywhere he went.
Spencer immediately jumped up from his seat. He appeared in front of you in a flash, his hand wrapping around yours and the box.
“This is definitely not how I envisioned this moment. But then again, when it comes to us, nothing ever goes as planned.” Spencer began, looking into your eyes. “I don’t think I’ve ever told you this, but ehm, I’ve known I wanted to be the man you marry since before we even started dating. You’re the most patient, caring, loving, and not to mention beautiful person I’ve ever met. I am extremely lucky to have you in my life.”
Your eyes glossed over with tears as Spencer continued, “I’ve loved you for a very long time, Y/N. The journey you and I have been on so far is more than your average couple goes on. Which proves that together we are extraordinary.”
He took a deep breath before retrieving the box from your grasp. He slowly got down on one knee and proceeded to open the small box, causing a gasp to escape your lips.
“You’ve been through a lot, Y/N. I understand that you may not be ready to take this next step with me yet, therefore this is more of a promise rather than a question.” He licked his lips, fighting back his own happy tears as yours trailed down your face.
“Y/N Y/L/N, will you marry me, one day?” Spencer asked and your heart soared at the question.
“Of course, yes. Yes, yes, yes! Yes!” You squealed, holding out your hand. The hazel-eyed doctor didn’t waste any time to put the ring on your finger, a goofy smile visible on his features. He then stood back up and kissed you with all his might, as you wrapped your arms around his neck and melted into his embrace.
“I would marry you in a heartbeat, doctor.” You mumbled against his lips.
Effortlessly lifting you off the ground, Spencer spun you around. The two of you laughing uncontrollably, basking in the love you were both experiencing. Your fingers tangled in his brown hair, as he trailed sloppy kisses across your jaw and down your neck.
“I love you.” Spencer whispered in your ear before pulling back to look at your face, his hazel gaze locking with yours. “I love you too.” You exclaimed in a hushed tone and pecked his lips.
Gently, he lifted your hand to admire how the ring looked on your finger. His lips twirling upwards even more, as if that was even possible. Both of you felt as if you were on cloud nine.
This is what the rest of your life felt like.
I promise I'm the one for you Just let me hold you in these arms tonight
