If my local library or bookshop were to post full time positions, I'd apply in a heartbeat, do anything to get it. The library occasionally posts part time, which in one circumstance may work in a pinch, say, going back to school for a certificate. Which, seeing how my job is right now, may very well happen.

#loving how i got laid off a year ago because the company wanted asses in seats in person #and didn't want to pay us half of what we made #and now my current job is threatening a lay off for problems out of our control #but we're the ones blamed for everything #at this point i'm there for 4 reasons #income and health insurance #opportunity to transfer within the company and to better jobs #and mostly because i don't want to deal with this job market again #but the job is awful and the people even worse #part of me almost wishes they'd just go through with it and get me out of that hell hole with severance #but the job market is awful #i just want to hang out with my precious books all day #i should get one of the part time jobs and get the certificate #the certificate for a decent and in demand job #and get one of those jobs while getting my MLIS #did i just make my 5 year plan in the tags?#the world may never know #personal

they've been doing interviews at my job and we still have a massive stack of applications in the office despite interviewing 6 people a day for a week and I keep thinking about how when I got hired they basically hired me on spot

#recent grads in my major are facing the worst job market in years (and i would be miserable in programming anyway so thats off the table)#my IT job rn is actual hell on earth but thats a whole other thing #unironically i think customer service was the least awful position i've held but oof that wrecked me physically #and all of my interests are in the industries with the most worker exploitation 😃👍 and i wouldn't know where to get connections regardless #the only jobs listings near me are minimum wage or delivery drivers :(#the signs are pointing me to go back to school but hhhhhg i don't know if i could afford that on my own now #screams into pillow #text

oh so now the birds are eating the <25 cherries i've got growing on my tiny tree

literally everything i've planted in this fucking garden has either died on its own or has been killed by birds/bugs

#my garden is a microcosm of my whole life right now #my life has been on a downward spiral since last july and bestie i am starting to reach my fucking limit #defaulting to thinking ''i wish i were dead'' at every little inconvenience is BAD!!!! i know!!!! but it's true!!!#the mint from trader joe's was infested with aphids and i've been cleaning it off every day for 2 weeks and it's STILL got them #like... this plant is 1 foot tall with two little stalks and less than 30 leaves. it hasn't grown in the 2 months i've had it #the money plant still reeks of mold and has to live outside because of its smell and the fungus gnats #the golden sage just fuckin.... burned to death????? it turned gray and DIED #the one and only bean plant that sprouted just ejected the only 2 true leaves it bothered growing #the originally robust blackberry cane is withering. the other two did get better but started from the ground up. there's 1 blackberry total #the rosemary hasn't gotten any bigger in the 3 months i've had it #the scotch brooms don't look so good. the salvia haven't gotten any bigger in 3 months and the creeping phlox bleached and died #the thyme is doing okay and the culinary sage is hanging in there but i don't have high hopes #not a single fucking wildflower sprouted in the yard. i used 2 bags of seed+mulch that was supposed to cover 600sq ft (the yard is 400)#the mourning doves ate a bunch of the seeds and the rest never sprouted #there's a few puny sunflower sprouts but the cottontail came and ate some of those leaves #the cottontail also ate an entire stalk of the potted mystery flowers #the huge plant i moved in November... the one that surprisingly survived frost/freeze... can't handle the heat and is now dead #i just...#the job market is awful. the salaries are worse. the neighborhood is in the middle of nowhere and inhabited by paranoid cops #everyone has big dogs who go apeshit when they hear ppl walking #and the fences are short and the dogs are big so i'm scared to go walking because EVERY. DAY. on the nextdoor app are people #announcing that they found a dog wandering the neighborhood. or ppl saying ''omgggg my dog got out of the yard! have u seen it?''#spring was all wind/gusty and it battered the blackberries and sucked all the moisture out of the yard #so the 2 tons of compost that we rototilled into the dirt? it's just dust now. there's nothing living in that soil #and now summer is here and it's too hot and these plants don't have a chance #i hate everything

jobs will say they're mental health friendly until you actually have to miss work for it

jobs will say they support you taking time off until you actually do it

capitalism is a sham and employers do not and will not ever care about you, and if you're chronically ill, sucks to suck

i have an average of 1.5 absences a month and i'm tardy an average of twice a month, and somehow that's still too much.

18 absences in a year if i go at the current rate. 18. out of the 208 days total that i work (4 on, 3 off, with a 3 hour commute each direction.) 18. days. of absences. and that's too many.

and god forbid i be more than 15 minutes late.

#it's because we're horrifically understaffed #animal rescue is understaffed and underpaid and burnt the fuck out #but where else am i gonna go #back to retail? my body can't take that anymore #a decade of 8 hours a day on my feet has quite literally crippled me #i called out today because i dared to have fun over my weekend and my hip pain flared so badly that i couldn't put weight on it #i should stay home and rest it tomorrow too #but i'm not #because my boss already texted me today to inform me that my absences are “alarmingly too frequent” and “becoming problematic”#i took fmla for a month and a half last year because i couldn't handle existing #i've been back for 3 months #my shelter laid off 15% of our staff within a month of me returning #critical teams were cut entirely #and my team #the adoptions team #has seven people total #that's not enough #that isn't NEARLY enough #not for an animal shelter of our size and animal volume #that's why me calling out is “problematic”#because HR won't greenlight us for more positions #because of a problem THE CEO caused by driving us into the ground financially #and if i leave i have to start all over somewhere else #i have to wait a year to be eligible for fmla at a new job #i lose my benefits #i don't even know if i could FIND a job #the market is awful and i will literally collapse if i have to work a standing job again #i made it six months at my last one #because i was so dizzy and in so much pain all the time #undiagnosed issues of course

My job is bringing in all the remote workers for 2 days at the end of June (the day after I get back from vacation) and I hate it there and I just had to spend a week there and I was so so mad and so with this I have been raging and every other remote employee is like "wow this should be fun!"

got a call from the acute care hospital mom is at this morning. around 3AM her heart stopped again (second time in two months). They didn’t call me THEN, i guess bc it was 3 and they got her heart started quickly. but they’ve transferred her to the closest full hospital now, and the ER doctor called me. he was nice enough but he doesn’t seem to think i should get my hopes up.

no word yet on my disability filing, but it’s just the first one, and typically unless you’re dying they say no. if mom dies now, there goes everything. she dies, i die.

i was so happy just a couple days ago, they said she was getting better

#it's so STUPID #you'd think i'd have even a BIT of marketable skill but apparently not #i can't stand up for long enough and i can't lift very much anymore #and i can't SEE well enough to drive or do a lot of other things #my memory is sincerely AWFUL (i live off of notes and alarms)#and my depth perception is off kilter and so's my balance #and you kno? i was going thru some old papers and found some of my old notes about job hunting #and i realized that i've been filling out applications since i was like 18 and have never gotten a single call back on any. ever.#all the work i've ever done has been for family (and thus for no pay) or day of cash in hand kind of stuff (that i'm not suited to anymore)
