Seeing some posts on my dash that are kind of in the wheelhouse of the stuff I was just posting about. I really like their posts normally and I don't want to unfollow but :/.
#it's a certian kind of rhetoric#like honestly i don't talk about this but i got kind of a bit...radicalised into some antisemitic beliefs at one point in about 2016#because i didn't know what i was talking about or understand how antisemitism works#a lot of this makes me think of a horrible murder case in the uk that caused an outpourting of right wing radicalisation#lee rigby was a white soldier who was off-duty when he was attacked and killed by two British Nigerians who claimed#to be avenging Muslims kill by the British army.#i mention this because it's long enough ago to not be super fresh and raw in people's minds#and because it makes me think many things at once and none of them contradict each other.#1. this murder was from day 1 basically tailor-made to incite far right hatred and that is terrifying to all Muslims in Britain#and all black Brits too.#2. Lee was a human being and did not deserve to die#3. a lot of the valorising of Lee as a person focuses on his position in the army fighting for queen and country and help for our heroes#and as someone who does not like the armed forces and is anti-war i find this rhetoric troubling and likely to become very jingoistic#4. Lee's mother had to go to the press MULTIPLE TIMES asking people to please please PLEASE not taint the memory of her beloved son#by using what happened to him to incite hatred of Muslims even more than what was already happening in the UK at that time#Ok list over now with all of that do you think that anyone at all who claimed that Lee's attack was some kind of justified revenge#would have been helping the cause of Muslims at all? ESPECIALLY if it came from a white British non-Muslim lefty type??#If you said this do you think a Muslim terrified of being attacked in 'revenge' for Lee would have cheered you on?#Or would they have wanted you to stop deliberately making tensions worse??#ETA i realised i never returned to the point about me being radicalised- i had to do better and i hope i have fully moved away from that.#the thing is saying that it's wrong for you to be asked to mourn for the terrorism victims in Israel is kinda right#for the same reason no one should have been forced to perform grief for lee rigby to seem virtuous#but also it's your duty especially if you are someone without any ties to Israel or Palestine#to not make tensions worse at a time when they are incredibly inflamed already

Would you ever do a yandere oc based on an urdu male lead? Maybe even with a foreigner reader learning his culture as an overseas worker?
-Thank you for reading!
OFCCCCC!!! Okay so I'm thinking of 2 Pakistani men, and these guys are bffs. OC #1 is a handsome dude that was born with a silver spoon, lives in a big ass haveli (or mansion. Just Google it) with his family- his parents and 3 brothers and he's the youngest and most loved of them all. This OC (I can't decide what job he has, so I'll leave it to u guys to vote on) is either going to be a business man who inherits his father's company, OR he can be a lawyer (very successful). OC #1 appears to be a cocky and overconfident, PLAYER who has the best luck but he's actually really hardworking and smart and was on the Dean's valedictorian list, he just doesn't take life too seriously. Hes very charming and charismatic and everyone wants to either be with him or BE HIM. His carefree attitude is often mistaken as him not being serious in any aspect of his life- be it love or career. But that's totally not true. He's worked hard for everything in life, and he may date a lot of people but he always makes sure that his dates know from day 1 that he's not serious about them. That it's just a fling.
OC #2 is a guy who's dark and brooding, completely opposite of sunshine OC #1. It's a mystery how the two ended up as best friends (OC#1 met OC#2 in kindergarten and demanded to be friends with him. #2 said no at first, but quickly came to realise that #1 was a true friend when he'd always share his lunch with him because #2 was dirt poor). This oc was basically very poor and had to work very hard from a very young age if he ever hoped to support his single mother(who he loves very much). His IQ? ITS 192. He's very intelligent, but still sort of keeps to himself, low key comes off as rude because of how quiet he is, seems and sometimes is least interested in other people (but that doesn't mean he doesn't notice them. He remembers everything). Growing up, his only friend has been OC #1, who he likes to pretend is a nuisance but he actually cares about him, especially because OC #1's family even treated him as their own. The two of them always did everything together, even applied to the same schools and would always have a friendly competition among themselves (no one else could even imagine to compete wuth them because theyd 1000% lose). OC #2 is very prideful and he never accepted charities, not even from his bff, was the valedictorian of his college (he was the top student in every institute he ever went to, and always got the first position in every exam he took). Not only is he academically very smart, but he's also very good in sports. So he's an all rounder. His job (again u guys have to decide) could be either business man (he started his own tech company.) Or he could be a lawyer (to fight injustice with his bff) OR he could be a SPY!
So basically, the story would go like Y/n coming into their life and yknow the basics- she's not fawning over them, is smart and independent, feminine and just like best girl everr. Anyways, the of them fall for her simultaneously, but you are the one thing that neither of them will ever compromise on, AND DONT BRING UP "SHARING YOU" they will actually murder whoever brings up the idea because monogamy is a big thing among these men (unless ur a Muslim guy, u can technically marry 4 women, but most don't opt to because they're very possessive and also the INFLATION???) Both of them are very possessive and are keeping tabs on you at all times.
Names for OC #1: Zulfiqar, Halim, Ibrahim, Ali Asghar, Haroon
Names for OC #2: Hashim, Mahir, Mehmet
Okay so help me choose their careers and names! And feel free to send asks for them. I'll answer them.

where OJ Simpson died , what your thoughts on his abuse of his two wives and nicole brown and rod goldman's families , i know every women of color experience domestic violence , i saw black women cheer that oj is dead, has gotten away from murder
I wish I had something more poignant to say, but when I heard about OJ Simpson’s death the only things I thought about were,
1) Nicole Brown Simpson. She was a victim of femicide, and unfortunately,
2) I cannot help but remember how fucking mad white people were. Literally for years afterwards. And I’m not trying to excuse OJ or anything, but I was a kid when all that happened. Like not even a teenager. And I remember being interrogated by my white school mates, and I also remember being treated a lot more harshly than normal by my white teachers (lol, and I can count on one finger the number of Black teachers I had from kindergarten to high school)
For clarity, I dO believe that OJ murdered Nicole and her boyfriend and I am not making excuses for OJ
I just keep thinking about how the L.A. riots happened only two years prior, and how A LOT of the racist cops involved in OJ’s arrest were patently racist — they caught Mark Furman on audio tape freely slinging the n-word, and other (white) cops were totes cool with that
White people were sO fucking angry. Like, not angry because a woman was murdered, but because it was a Black man who murdered her, a literal blonde haired Guinevere
It was the same kind of whitelash that got Emmett Till murdered, and the same kind of white anger that landed the Central Park 5 and countless other Black men in prison. If Nicole was a Black woman (or if OJ was white), I doubt white people would have even taken notice
Again, I’m not caping for OJ Simpson. He definitely murdered Nicole, and there isn’t a poor Black man alive who would have gotten off like OJ did
FWIW, I personally do not know any Black women who cheered at his death, but then again, his death is a non-issue and it hasn’t come up too much (not at all, really) amongst my family and friends, and it’s almost beyond my generation
And I just wanted to add some context for the jury verdict that let him off the hook, because in my experience there’s this unwritten cultural thing in America where, whenever any non-Black person asks a Black person about OJ, they are really just expecting a simple admonition of “bad dark skinned Black man,” without digging any deeper and recognizing context like what had just happened to Rodney King and the L.A. riots —they ask Black people about OJ kind of like how whenever a media pundit “randomly” asks every single Muslim they encounter if they condemn Hamas)
(SN: And even if OJ hadn’t murder anyone, I never liked him ever since I read where he once said, “I’m not Black, I’m OJ” … I genuinely detest other Black people who are so desperate for the white gaze that they hate their own Blackness and would sell out Black people for their own self enrichment)
It’s wild af that every time I’ve heard about his death, it’s like listening to a highlight reel of his career, almost without any mention of Nicole or Ron Goldman’s murders
The United States has a big fucking problem with femicide
And misogyny
And racism
And racialized misogyny
I would say that OJ’s death would be a great opportunity to raise awareness about femicide and domestic violence and intimate partner violence, but America is so blind or indifferent to the role that ingrained racism plays, I wouldn’t trust the disproportionately overwhelmingly white media to not fumble it
Yeah, anyway, I have always believed that if the police hadn’t had such a long ass + well documented history of being abject liars and racists, Nicole might have gotten the justice she deserved
I hope that OJ’s death brings some semblance of peace to the families of Nicole and Ron

hello! i just wanted to thank you. i have been reading your posts in the previous years, fighting for us lgbt Muslims. i am so deeply grateful to you for enlightening me, even if you didn't know, you helped me so much. i hope i am not overstepping boundaries but i just have a few questions that might be able to help me. at times i just say to myself "drop it, i cannot take being lonely for the rest of my life so even if acting upon my urges is a sin, i still will. i would rather go to hell for loving than hating." i simply cannot comprehend WHY it would be a sin. how did you come into terms with yourself? in an ask, you mentioned you had a wife, did an imam marry you? that's so so beautiful i hope the same thing will happen to me one day!!! i am in a really really bad situation, and am starting to hate myself and crying and i have even considered leaving just so i could be free from the guilt. the guilt and confusion is endless. but i do not want to leave my religion behind because i still believe in it. the uncertain nature of our religion means different situations will be judged by Allah according to their own circumstances. i struggle so much every day to even get up and do something. can i still go to heaven if i act on my urges? if i only have sex after marrying? please please give me an answer this is so valuable to me. i hope that one day i will be just like you and come to terms with myself. i am sending my love and prayers to you and your wife. please take care, you will be in my prayers🤍
Hello my friend 🧡🧡🧡
I wanted to say first off that you will also be in my prayers. I'm glad that I've been able to be a beacon of sorts for you, that means a lot
To answer your question about my wife, I am not officially married by an imam, I have yet to find one that is willing to marry us in person. But I have several supportive family members who have bore witness to my oath to my wife, and for my circumstances that is enough for now. I know my loyalty and I know my love. My wife has brought me closer to Allah throughout my life, and I consider being a good spouse to her one of the ways I fulfill my role as a good Muslim
As far as the guilt, all I can say is that there are more resources these days that tackle homosexuality and gender variance in Islam. I no longer have the energy these days to fight the battle anymore-- I just want to exist, loudly-- but I want to remind you that the existence of gender variance and same-sex love are documented throughout Muslim history through many different cultures and time periods. There are also alternative translations to the Story of Lut that you can find, but it can be hard to wade through the vitriolic opinions. But study the Qur'an carefully, find alternative translations, you will find there is nothing definitive about homosexuality nor gender variance
And at the end of the day in Islam, our actions towards others, our actions within our communities, those are more defining of a good Muslim than our identities. Do good, be good to others, fight for the disenfranchised
And I find it so much easier to do good when I am at peace with myself. I find it easier to do good when I have loving support from others, like the one who loves me most deeply. I hope you can find that too, both peace and love

Tumblr media
Hannibal Lecter x Fem! Reader.
I'M NOT IRRITATED AT ALL, I'M SO HAPPY TO KNOW U ACTUALLY LIKING MY WRITING. I LUV U TOO <3333
Tags ; muslim! reader, Hannibal trying to subtly rizz u with his cooking skillz :3, no tw (I think), fancy smancy hannibal with his fancy smancy pork meals 🙄, will bein an empath and already guessing that hannibal is a simp..
Tumblr media
You smiled to yourself as you looked into the little mirror which was in your compact powder, fixing up your makeup as you took a deep breath before closing the compact powder and sliding it into your purse.
You exit your car and walk up to Hannibal's front door, you can hear faint chatter coming from the other side. Looks like you're the last one hear. Just as your about to knock, the door opens. “Y/N, lovely to see you. You look great.” He smiled. “How did you-” Just as you were about to inquire, he stopped you mid sentence. “I recognized the perfume you wore. Do come inside, must be cold out there.” He smiled and stepped aside to let you in.
You were a little surprised but recalled Will having told you about Hannibal's sense of smell, so you smiled back at him and entered the house.
Following Hannibal, he led you to the dinner room. Where you could see Alana, Jack, and Will already seated. “Y/N! You made it!” Alana spoke up, standing up to give you a handshake with a sweet smile.
After you had thoroughly shaked hands with everyone, you sat down and began conversing while Hannibal was in the kitchen preparing the dinner.
You had offered to help but he said it was alright and that you could sit down with the others.
By the time the food arrived you were famished, literally your mouth watered just at the scent of the cooked meat. “Balsamic braised pork tenderloins, with fresh figs.” Hannibal introduced, setting a plate down infront of each guest. “What type of pork is this?” Jack inquired while picking up his knife and fork. “Iberico pork, comes from the famous Iberian black pigs.” He spoke, smiling to himself proudly at the representation of the food. You felt your stomach drop at the realization that you can't even eat the delicious looking food.
“Of course, Dr. Hannibal Lecter with his expensive meals. If I hadn't known any better I'd think you're trying to impress someone.” Will spoke up sarcastically. Everyone around the table let out 'Oooh's in regards to Wills theory.
“Who knows?” He jested, everyone laughed at his half assed response. He smiled to himself before sittting down at the table and watched as everyone began to take a bite and said their compliments to Hannibal. Everyone except you.
You looked like you were lost, staring down at the meat with furrowed brows. “Y/N?” Hannibal called out quietly, loud enough for you to hear. “Huh? Oh, sorry. I was- Um, yeah what did you need?” You smiled to him sheepishly, he could tell you were nervous.
“Why aren't you eating? Is it not to your liking? Don't tell me you're a vegetarian.” He laughed a little, genuinely curious as to whether you know his secret or you're genuinely just not interested in the food.
“I um, I'm not hungry.” You spoke, your stomach deciding to rumble at exactly that time. The color from your face drained in horror as you stared him dead in the face as your stomach grumbled. His expression was blank, before a small smile crept to his face. “Now that we know that's not the case, what's the real reason you are uninterested in the meal?” He spoke, he was definitely not going to let you go home on an empty stomach.
You looked around and everyone was engrossed in eating and or sharing a few jokes that they hadn't noticed you and Hannibal's own conversation that was oddly secretive.
“I um.” You spoke up. “Go on, it's not like I'll kill you for it.” He joked, laughing a little at his own joke. “Yeah well, I don't.. Eat pork..” You said awkwardly as you looked at your lap in embarrassment. Making a whole fuss on not eating just because you don't eat pork. You wanted to go home and just eat instant noodles and read fanfics. (I see u.)
“You don't eat pork? Why didn't you say anything before? Are you allergic? I am so sorry I should've asked. I'll make a new dish for you, please wait.” He was about to stand up but you grabbed his hand and shook your head. “No no! It's alright, I'm actually uh, Muslim, you know? I can't really eat pork. But it's fine! I'm fine! I'm not that hungry anyway.” You spoke with an awkward smile. “Nonsense, wait for everybody to leave and then I'll cook up a meal to your liking.” He smiled and put his hand over your hand for reassurance. Which made butterflies go wild in your stomach before you nodded and smiled, relaxing back down and waiting for everyone to finish their own meals.
By the time everyone left, you were already in the kitchen, looking over all the ingredients in his fridge. “Liver, kidney, eeeww..” You stuck your tongue out in emphasis on the through of eating animal organs. You closed the fridge and turned around and let out a shriek as Hannibal was towering over you. “Apologies, didn't mean to startle you.” He spoke, his gaze intimidating. “Oh it's alright!- I was just looking over the ingredients you have. We could make a beef stew or something.” You smiled, trying to be helpful with ideas.
“Hmm, we could.” He spoke as you stepped aside and he opened up the freezer. Hannibal looked over at the labeled organs before his gaze went to the meat that was plastic wrapped. He took it out and placed it on the counter. “How about spaghetti and meatballs? No pork, just beef.” He smiled. “Oh sure! I haven't had spaghetti in a while. I'd love to taste your own recipe.” You smiled.
“Well then we best get making. I make my own spaghetti.” You raised your eyebrow. “That much effort for spaghetti and meatballs?” You spoke, crossing your arms. “That much effort for you my darling.” He spoke as he turned his back to you and began taking out the necessary bowls. While you stared at him and recalled what Will said. Was he really trying to impress you? You felt your face heat up but quickly shook your head and took a deep breath to calm down.
He put the bowls on the countertop and motioned for you to stand next to him. You smiled to yourself a little as you began to walk over to him, helping him with preparing the meal.

Okay hello, I tried to send this for a couple of minutes now but my internet connection is bad so if you already receive it then ignore my ask! But if you don’t then i hope you read it!!
I would like to request a headcanon for bucky x arab!reader specifically from one of the gulf countries?..
Or you could write one where arab!reader tries to teach her kids Arabic but they seem uninterested and the complain a lot abt how “unnecessary” it is. So bucky comes to the rescue and comfort the reader who.
I had so many other requests but I don’t want to bother you with them😅not right now anyway 🤣
Feel free to ignore if you don’t like it!
You can flood my inbox all you like babes. I don’t mind one bit.
I went with the second prompt but let me know if you want me to do the first one too!
Tumblr media
“Mommmmmmmmmm.”
My eye twitches from the drawn out syllables of my name but I smile nonetheless and ask my child what’s wrong in the most neutral voice I can manage. For the last 15 minutes, I’ve been trying to get Yasmin to at least try to learn Arabic with me. Every time I start, she immediately pretends that she needs to use the bathroom, is hungry, or otherwise refuses to start.
“This is stupid, no one even speaks Muslim,” she says while slumping back into her chair.
“Well first off, it’s Arabic. A muslim is a person who practices Islam,” i try not to grit out but I know it fails, “second, it’s the fifth most spoken language in the world and it’s what your jaddati and jaddi speak. It’s important that you’re able to understand them and hopefully talk to them too.”
She rolls her eyes at me and crosses her arms over her chest while mumbling, “Or they could learn to speak English.”
As if he knew that he was needed, Bucky walks in and freezes when the tension between us hits him.
“Is everything alright?” He asks cautiously as he sets his stuff on the counter and drops kisses to the both of our heads.
“Mom’s trying to torture me,” Yasmin groans and pretends to slide out of her chair, falling to the ground in a heap of limbs. Bucky glances to me, probably trying to see if he should laugh or not. He chooses wisely and only chuckles before kneeling next to our daughter.
I can’t hear everything that he’s whispering but whatever it is brings a wide smile to Yasmin’s face and she’s up within a second, running as fast as she can to her room. Defeated, I too slump in my chair and Bucky comes to sit on the edge of the table in front of me.
“I take it that was another failed attempt at teaching her Arabic.”
I nod with tears brimming my eyes and my ever so wonderful husband pulls me up and into a hug. Those tears start to fall as he rubs my back and whispers every kind word he can think of into my ear.
“It’s just…it’s just that,” I start and he shushes me.
“It’s okay, doll. We’ll figure something out. Maybe Yasmin and I learn together, yeah? You can be our teacher,” he mumbles as he pulls away, “I might need extra help, Mrs.Barnes.”
I giggle at the poor joke and let him kiss me.
“Please do not call me that,” I tell him, “I sound like I’m your mother.”
“Well the mother of my child.”

September 11
Hey Friends! I know this is kind of a random thing to post about, but I felt like I should.
If you don't know, today is September 11th, the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in America on September 11, 2001. Nearly 3,000 people died just in the attacks, with hundreds of others sick and dead because of the amount of toxic air and debris released into lower Manhattan after the crashes.
Tumblr media
The World Trade Center's North building was hit first, followed by the south building, then the Pentagon, then a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. They were hit by planes piloted by members of al-Qaeda, an Islamic extremist terrorist group formed by Osama bin Laden, along with some others.
Tumblr media
Because this group couldn't defeat America military-wise, they instead set their sights on symbols and iconic American monuments. Members hijacked these four flights to attack these various targets representing America's power.
There was only one plane that didn't land were it was meant to. This plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. We aren't sure were it was meant to go, but there's a theory that it was meant to land on the Capitol building because it is a sign of America's Legislative power. Even though we don't know for sure where this plane was meant for, what's important is that it didn't. Because of the bravery of the people on that flight who fought back against the hijackers, many lives were saved. Unfortunately, everyone on that flight died.
Other people who should absolutely be mentioned are the First Responders involved. During the attacks, after the attacks, and everywhere in between, First Responders came from all over America to help the victims of these attacks.
Tumblr media
We owe a lot to the dedicated men and women who worked day and night to save hundreds of lives.
It's important to say that even though the attacks were committed by Islamic extremists, NOT ALL MUSLIMS ARE AT FAULT. The people who attacked were extremists, who, like their name suggests, have extreme views. This is, in my opinion, the other side of the tragedy surrounding 9/11. After the attacks, people were very hateful towards Muslims and Muslim-Americans in general, not usually making any distinction between neighbors and friends and the people who actually attacked America.
Tumblr media
All in all, 9/11 was tragedy on many levels. There's lots of others things to be said and aspects I haven't covered. If you want, you can check out the websites/resources linked below to read more. If you're a 9/11 victim or the family of one, I offer my condolences and hope that you're able to feel hope even today, on the anniversary of this tragedy. If there's something I left out, or something I said wrong, I'm really sorry. I don't want to offend someone by this, only commemorate and remember this day for what it is.
If you want to learn more about 9/11, I would suggest---
1. CNN10; they released a video today with some good information, mostly about the 9/11 memorial in New York.
2. The 9/11 Memorial website; there's a lot of information including ways to get connected/help with the efforts to help people learn about 9/11.
3. Ground Zero by Alan Gratz; if you didn't know Alan Gratz is a writer who writes really deep, meaningful, and slightly gore-y books about tragedies. The books are gore-y for a reason, they really demonstrate the true tragedy and this book made me cry like five different times throughout reading it. It's on Libby and a bunch of other reading websites and local libraries if you want to read it. I highly recommend it. -> (TW: blood, fire, angst, wounds, death, etc. If you're under 13, I suggest asking a parent to read this with you)
4. The National Archives; I haven't read through this entire website because it's super massive, but if you look at the side of the page there's a place that says 'Contents' and there's a ton of resources there too.

Hi! I'm really sorry in advance if this comes out weirdly, I really don't mean for it to.
So I'm thinking about writing a desi oc (I'm not desi, btw) and I really don't want to write them offensively/incorrectly. You obviously can't speak for all of the south Asian people, but some pointers would be really useful! Or you could totally just tell me to f off and avoid it.
Anyways, have a wonderful day/night and I hope good things come your way!
Hey anon!! I'm glad you reached out to me, and no, this is not weird lol. I would have preferred you give me some more details about what you are writing about. Is your writing taking place in South Asia? Is a South Asian character visiting a foreign country for the first time? Or have they been there the entire time? Anyways, here’s some stuff I wanted to point out:
Since you reached out to me, I'm going to assume that you're writing about a character who still believes in their religion. Perhaps you could make them slightly religious or could mention something in their religion. Of course, I do not know what religion your characters will be, but you should research their religion more. For example, someone who is Hindu/Jain could wear a bindi, and someone who is Muslim could wear a hijab.
There is a belief that South Asian people treat women differently. That is not true! South Asians treat women with the respect that they deserve. It’s important to separate stereotypes and myths from reality.
When it comes to eye color, the most common eye color is dark brown. Being South Asian and having an eye color other than a shade of brown is really rare. If you have a lot of South Asian characters, I suppose one or two could have different colored eyes, but really, so many South Asians have eyes that are a shade of brown.
Perhaps you could mention South Asian food! I do not know a lot of foods, but some that I eat often include: dosas, samosas, idli, roti, and more (again, you can Google it!!) Also, South Asian food isn’t always spicy. We eat sweets too, you know? We don’t munch on spicy curries the whole day 🙄
Not all South Indians are doctors, lawyers, or engineers. This is what most South Asian parents want their children to be, but really, how many of us actually listen? Give your characters a profession other than that, yeah?
None of us have that weird Desi-aunty accent (except for, of course, all my weird Desi aunties haha-)
We all don’t have arranged marriages every single time. Honestly, I can’t elaborate on this one.
We all don’t have joint families with 100+ people in them!! Families can be different!!!
Well. I started off with a bunch of tips and then ended up debunking myths lol. Anyways, if my information wasn’t helpful, you could try sending me a more specific ask with what you want? Or ask someone else, because I’m sure that others have better stuff to say than me lol.
Thank you for the ask, anon! And you too, have a wonderful day <3

Muslim and Maghrebi Amis headcanons
So I said the other day that this fandom needed more Muslim Amis, if we’re writing Modern AU set in France. I don’t have much time right now, but let me try to put my money where my mouth is for a bit.
For context, my usual headcanons of the Amis are that Jehan is Jewish Algerian (his family moved to France after the independence), Feuilly is Egyptian and arrived to France as a unaccompanied minor, and Bossuet is Senegalese and got to France as an adult. Marius’ dad is Moroccan, but of course he didn’t know until he was an adult. For the time of this post, Grantaire’s mom is Greek.
Feuilly works at a kebab place. It is hell during Ramadan, because it means he has to work the entire day in a hot place, surrounded by food, without drinking or eating. His boss is Muslim too, so at least the minute sundown hits they close and go home to eat.
Another, less dramatic bad consequence of his place of work, is that he spends his days cringing at French people pronouncing the items on the menu horribly wrong. He sometimes slips and uses that pronunciation when speaking to other Maghrebis and he wants to die. Those words just have no meaning to him at this point. They’re just sounds customers make.
Jehan and Feuilly bond around speaking similar Maghrebi dialects. Also, the struggle to find restaurants that serve Halal and Kosher food. Jehan complains that it isn’t fair that Feuilly can eat kosher but he can’t eat halal.
Feuilly and Enjolras (and Marius, later) are always the designated drivers/herders of drunk people because they are the only Amis who never drink.
When Marius discovers his dad was Moroccan, he converts to Islam (his far-right grandfather is horrified). He’s very serious about it, he’s super diligent with his prayers. Bossuet teases him a lot about it, he calls him “imam” and “haaji” and he asks him when he’s going to do the peregrination to Makkah.
Marius immediately starts learning Arabic to read the Quran. Enjolras decides to join him, because it’s important to be inclusive, and is very frustrated to discover that Quranic Arabic does not help him communicate.
Bossuet can read and write Arabic because he learned in Quranic school as a kid, but he doesn’t speak a word of it (and if you take the vowels out he’s lost as hell).
Bossuet is not a practicing Muslim. He eats pork, he drinks excessively, the whole shebang. He’s quite unapologetic about it. That said, he does have a different set of “clean” social media for the people at home. One time Grantaire posted a picture of them having a beer at the Musain during Ramadan to the wrong account by accident and Bossuet almost had a heart attack.
The rest of the Amis end up picking random sentences. Courfeyrac one time said “ya Allah” in front of his parents and his dad flipped his shit over “bad influences”.
Grantaire is super into Ancient Greece, and whenever there’s a debate in the Amis about whether something is Greek or Maghrebi or Middle Eastern he ends up saying some variation on “you’re all Greeks, anyway”. If Feuilly tries to say he isn’t, he simply goes “you’re from Alexandria, shut up”.
And believe me, there are a lot of debates over whether stuff is Greek or not, especially food. It usually ends with Grantaire and whoever the other person was making the dish and bringing it to the Amis to let them decide which version is better. The others aren’t complaining!
Hope you enjoyed this!

I was there too with my older brothers and cousins, it warmed my heart seeing so many people in support of Palestine. I also saw a lot of Jews there and I think people forget that there’s a difference between a zionist and a Jew. As a Palestinian muslim woman myself I spoke to a few of them and they explained that they do not support the actions of Israel and that it’s against their religion. When I was younger I was always mad at the ‘jews’ for taking over my country and that I got called a terrorist and they didn’t when they clearly killed many innocent lives. I also tried to talk to Israeli people but when I told them everything Israel did to Palestine and how it was wrong they would call me antisemitic and get mad. I was like 16/17 when I finally realized that I should leave the faith of Palestine in Allahs hands and not get kind of mad when people tell me they’re jewish, because I always thought that automatically meant that they were zionists😭 I always felt this survivors guilt, I was born in Palestine but my parents moved us to London when I was 2, but I still have some family there and it’s awful for them. Like why do I get to live in a safe environment when they can’t? I’m 20 years old now and my cousin had it way harder growing up than I did, thankfully she also made it out, but I just feel bad when she talks about her childhood knowing that I didn’t have to worry if there would be Israeli soldiers outside on my streets. I’ve seen pictures of our neighborhood before it got destroyed and it was so beautiful, my grandma would tell me stories about how she and my grandpa would walk to the markets and now it’s all gone. Alhamdulillah they’re safe now.
I’m honestly so happy to see many people support Palestine, thank you to all who protested and constantly donate to help the people in Gaza🇵🇸🩷
Also so real for that Rishi Sunak comment because who told him to open his mouth😭😭😭 Every time I see him I get so mad omg💀
Thank you so much for sharing your story with me 🥺🙏🏼🇵🇸
Sooo many people from different religions are conditioned to hate other religions. I know so many people who were raised to hate Muslims, who were raised to hate Jewish people etc etc. It’s just up to us, as we grow up, to combat these views and stereotypes, speak to more people, understand situations and see that there is good and bad in every religion.
I can’t even begin to imagine how you feel, with Palestine being your homeland and yet you moved away so you are safe from the war and yet your people are suffering so much 🥺🥺🥺 It’s heartbreaking and I can’t even imagine, the fact you have family there as well, going through such atrocities.
I just watched a video on tiktok of a man from Palestine who said that a dog in Europe lives a better life than a Palestinian human being in Palestine. Because at his camp, they are waiting for water. A dog on Europe has access to water and the Palestinians do not because Israel cut access bc of course “they have the right to defend themselves!1!1” How a nuclear state cutting water and electricity access from innocent people is helping Israel defend itself, I won’t understand lmfao.
Honestly, this is at the end of the day not a war based on religion at all. No one cares what religion the Zionist alt right government of Israel are… we only care about the 28282992 war crimes they are committing as we speak.
But it’s still great to see Jewish people supporting the Palestinian cause—and the fact there is so many of them! ALSO a lot of Israeli people supporting Palestine shows that there is hope.
I hate Rishi Sunak. This man went to Israel and said “I hope you win” and “the uk stands with Israel” meanwhile there are protests pro Palestine protests here every other day.

hellooo with your permission, i am coming back to bother you with the Indian James headcanons 🙏
assuming they're from Maharashtra and they speak Marathi (and Hindi? i'm assuming most families know more than just one language) at home, what would he call his parents? and what would they call him and each other? I've heard "jaan" a lot but I'm not sure how accurate that is and whether that works for Marathi too. are there any other endearment terms they could use? like love, sunshine, darling etc in English.
also i've been wondering if there's any exclamations/expressions etc that can be used within English speech without making it sound unnatural. like in Arabic we say "basmala/mashallah" for good luck or "inshallah" when we hope that something happens etc and it's integrated in English speech very naturally. wondering if there's anything of that sort?
Okay imma go step by step here. In India, especially where I live (Maharashtra yay hehe) it's pretty normal to know like three or more languages. I myself— plus my family— speak Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati and Marwadi, and even though we can't speak them we understand Punjabi and Bengali. So you assume correctly that they speak more than one language at home. Especially my family, where we know a bunch of non Indian languages as well, for business purposes.
Assuming James is Maratha, he would call his mother Aai (pronounced Aa-ee) and his father Baba (Mum and Dad). I have this headcanon that when he wants to annoy them he calls them Matoshree and Pitashree lmao (formal terms for Mother and Father in Hindi/Sanskrit).
"Jaan" means "life", and it's pretty accurate even if it's Urdu tbh, a lot of parents call their kids stuff like jaan, hayat (which you already know the meaning of), laadli (darling in Hindi), maajha baal (my baby- Marathi). If you wanted nicknames in Marathi you'll be good to go with bubdi (bubba), laadkaa or laadki (darling in masc and fem), or sonpari (golden fairy, usually for girls) and Sonu (dear, used for children).
Exclamation sounds can be "arey!" (uh-ray) which is "hey!" and "aai ga!" (aa-ee guh) which is like "oh mother!". They're just one word each, but they can be used in like 50 different situations lmao. Arey can be used for calling someone's attention ("arey come here a second will you?"), to express frustration with someone ("areyyy, why are you like this?"), exasperation ("arey yaar!" yaar is slang for friend) and a bajillion other stuff. Aai ga is used as an exclamation mark for when you're surprised, or got hurt, and in place of "oh God!". We don't have specific phrases that mean good luck or inshallah, but Urdu still uses both mashallah and inshallah so you'll be okay i think. But James probably wouldn't use them bc he's not a Muslim yk, and Hindu people usually use the name of the god they're praying on on swearing on, so there's that. We say stuff like "hay bhagwan" ("oh, Vishnu". Bhagwan is one of the innumerable names of the Lord Vishnu). Or "har har Mahadev" ("glory be to Lord Shiva". Maha-dev literally translates to Great God, but it is one of the well known names of the God of Destruction). We do use "arey deva" (oh god) as well. "Jai shree Ram"(hail to the Lord Ram) or "jai shree krishna" or "jai shree ganpati" (ganpati is what most marathi people call Lord Ganesha) is used when we're beginning something and we want to make the start auspicious. The phrases are kind of used as "may this go well and end well" ykwim? This is hard to explain I hope you get what i wanna say lol.
Anyways, this is it, I hope this helps, and you can ask me anything and i will answer. Not always so quickly but I will. Have a good day!

It hasn't even been a week and I already have so many thoughts for what I'd like to see next season lol.
1. I think the search for Gabriel's killer should be left until the second half bc it would be way more satisfying to end the season with that.
2. I'd like to see Tarlos just being married. I'm not saying that there can't be some kind of drama but have them face it together. They've had so much growth this season I would like to see that continue rather than just more miscommunication now that they're actually married.
3. Have the first few episodes focus on Judd and the Ryders and how the 126 is affected by Judd not being there. Have some focus on Wyatt's recovery and how that affects his and Judd's relationship. Maybe have some scenes with TK and Judd. I think this would be a good opportunity for that.
4. This would also be a good opportunity to explore dual-certified TK more. Have him filling in for Judd on some cases.
5. Actually more of the usual rescues. I feel like we didn't get a lot of those this season.
6. More light-hearted episodes. This season was darker than any of the others and I think next season should return to having more light-hearted episodes.
7. Bring Iris back. We could see more of her friendship with Carlos. Also, have her and TK interact. Iris obviously sees a kinship with TK and I think it would be cool to explore that. Plus it would be great comedy to have two of them getting up to shenanigans and driving Carlos crazy.
7. Bring TK into the Robert storyline and see him and Owen interact. Along with that, see how it affects their relationship with Robert's family since Owen helped Robert die is likely going to be revealed. Explore Owen's grief and how it triggers his trauma over Tyler and have him and TK talk about that. And explore TK's feelings since he was so excited to get to know his cousins.
8. More of the other couples. I want to see more of Paul and Asha and learn more about Paul's background through that. And see Marjan and Yusef develop. And Nancy and Mateo. Maybe they have some conflict and we get to actually see them being a real couple beyond a few cute moments.
8. Maybe see TK thinking about his faith more. Maybe a rescue makes him think about it and he contemplates returning to temple. And with that, have Marjan exploring her faith more now that she's with a Muslim partner that she chose for herself. All respect but I think it's time that the non-Christian characters got a little more focus.
9. Have Carlos and Andrea talk about how Carlos’s relationship with Gabriel hurt him and have her actually listen instead of invalidating it. Have him tell her how much it hurts that Gabriel was so distant with him for most of his life and how he died before they could actually have a better relationship. Maybe have him talk to his sisters too. It's possible that they just don't get how hard it was for Carlos bc they have different memories of Gabriel and they weren't there when Carlos came out so they don't know just how bad it was.
10. Have the season end with them catching Gabriel's killer. Maybe Carlos decides to become a detective. He's obviously going to be involved in the search somehow but have him do it right instead of him getting obsessed and going off on his own which would also show the growth he had this season.
I know this is a lot lol. But these are just some thoughts I had. I just hope that the strike can end soon so we won't have to wait too long
Look at you with so many coherent thoughts!!!! I am still reeling and can’t even begin to have ideas like this yet but I would be into every one of these. Maybe Tim is lurking 👀👀👀

hello taka,
I respect you very highly as a cherished mutual of mine. I’m on anon because I can’t trust people not to misconstrue me and paint me as something I’m not. I just want to express concern over your reblog of South Africa—people conflate the situation with them and with Israel in dangerous ways. the key difference is that the Hamas-run government’s mission is to kill all Jews and Israelis. This includes the Muslims and Christians living in Israel. They are not synonymous situations, because there has never been a precedent for what’s happening now. it is naive to think that there would be no risk to the Israeli citizens, because there is a genuine threat to all of their lives. I just wanted to share this with you because it is very painful to see misinformation like this being spread, and how it misrepresents the situation. You don’t have to respond to this; I am sympathetic to why you shared it. I am only sending this ask because I see that you care and I don’t want you to be misled.
Hi there!!
I actually really appreciate this ask, because it made me go and have a conversation with a good friend of mine who studies international conflict and relations, and has a much greater understanding of this sort of thing than I do. Which is gonna be the basis of my response here, but I just wanna clarify that I'm by no means an expert on any of this, or how this sort of situation can be resolved.
I think I get where you're coming from here! And actually, I fundamentally agree with you on a lot of things - you're right, there is a tendency right now for people to draw parallels between these other historical/current situations, which can lead to over-generalisation which isn't really helpful, as some things are a lot more complicated and less clear cut than others. And, also, every situation is unique. You're right - the solution to apartheid in South Africa, and the situation in Boliva are not the same as what's happening with Israel and Palestine. So saying these situations are exactly the same isn't helpful.
However - I do think you missed the point of that post. Or, at least, the point how I interpreted it. For example, I don't think that post was at all calling for a Hamas-led government - in fact, I don't think it mentioned Hamas at all? My initial reaction to your ask, I'll admit, was frustration, because it seems that every time people try and talk about what's happening in Gaza, people bring up Hamas, and whilst I know why, it comes back to the whole thing of like, if you're spending so much time explaining that, no, you don't agree with Hamas and you think the Oct 7th attack was wrong, then you are not talking about the bigger problem, which is that nothing that Hamas did could ever justify what the Israeli government is doing right now, or has been doing since 1948. I know that's not at all what you were saying, but it is really frustrating. I think you're right, I don't think there should be a Hamas-led government (thought, to be frank, it's not really my place to say who should or shouldn't be in charge). I don't know what the government of a free Palestine (presumably combined with Israel) would look like - and I know that building a democracy is very difficult and also dangerous. But we have to hope that it's possible to achieve something that would actually work, right? We have to believe that there can be a future where Israelis and Palestinians can live together, equally, and without fear, and without prejudice, for either side (and I personally think the risk is much greater for Palestinians not being treated equally, but at the same time I recognise what you are saying too). The fact is that historically, a multicultural Israel/Palestine has existed (albeit, Israel as the country state that we know it today didn't necessarily, but you get what I mean) - and so I think that post is a lot less about 'these situations are all the same and should be treated the exact same way, with the same solutions'. If it is about that, then I don't think it's correct. I think it's a lot more about solidarity, and the idea there have been all sorts of awful situations before, and that afterwards, when varying solutions were achieved, people were able to live side by side with each other. That it is possible.
That said though, I definitely didn't have all these thoughts in mind when reblogging that post - I just thought yeah I really agree with this! and reblogged it. So, I'll be honest, I didn't know or understand all of what you said here - so I'm really glad that it prompted me to go and talk to my friend and start looking more into things and learning more, which is never a bad thing. Because you're right, this is complicated. And it isn't black and white.
There isn't an easy solution to what's going on. And I'm not here to provide that solution anyway. But - I guess I come at this from a Disaster Management perspective, which makes sense since I studied that. And in Disaster Management, there's a thing very imaginatively named 'the Disaster Management Cycle', and basically it goes from prevention, preparation and mitigation > DISASTER > response, recovery, development, building back to a new normal where things are better, and cycle back into that initial prevention for future disasters. And so, when I'm thinking of response, I'm also thinking of what needs to come next - what comes after the ceasefire? What comes after the aid, the immediate relief? We've got to think about recovery and development, and what that new normal would look like. And I think, whilst I now see that making comparison the way that post did can cause harm in it's own way, I think that the core of it was that we want to work for a future in Palestine and Israel where there is no displacement of anyone, where people can return and have freedom of movement, where people are equal. And, sure, that isn't going to happen tomorrow, and it's not going to happen next week - because it takes time and it's extremely difficult. And I probably am naive - but we have to have hope, right? We've got to have something to aim for. We (or, rather, someone) has got to be able to sit down and say this is what we want a free Palestine to actually look like, and there will be things that are practical and things that will be idealistic, and things that will be a bit of both, but regardless...we gotta start somewhere.
And, of course, the worst part of this whole situation is that we're not there yet. We're not even in response. We're still in the disaster stage. And I think that is what we've got to be talking about the most at the moment because the situation is getting worse and worse, and I can go on about long term solutions all I like, but there are things that need to be done right now. And, unfortunately, neither you nor I have the power to snap our fingers and do that - but we do have the power to be as annoying as possible to the people who do. So, my friend - I have no idea which country you're in, but if you're in the UK or the USA or any country that's failed to back a ceasefire or has cut funding to UNRWA, and you haven't been annoying to your local official/rep/mp about it yet - give them hell. And then, when we're in the recovery stage, we can start talking about who should be in charge and making sure no one else ever gets killed or loses everything over all of this.

(Please don’t feel like you have to respond if you don’t want to)
But in general what would the implications/punishments of a person taking off their hijab be? This is in relation to Din, of course lol.
I’m sorry, I’m totally ignorant about this T-T
hey!! no worries, what a wonderful question
so the hijab and the helmet are totally different things. the only thing they share in common is that they are a religious head covering and that it's the wearers CHOICE to wear them. other than that, the respective religions are totally different and therefore the rules for each are different
for the hijab, you wear it to hide usually your hair, your neck, and any other skin that helps to protect your modesty. hijabs are not to be taken off in front of men, but you can take it off in front of women (other genders and trans things and all that kind of stuff is debatable. some men and gnc people also wear hijabs). the hijab is worn to protect a persons modesty and to keep others eyes away from you to protect yourself from being ogled or sexualized or something similar. it's also to keep good faith and to please God.
now, for your question about punishments if someone takes of their hijab- there are none! the hijab is completely the wearers choice and whether someone wears it and then removes it or just never wears it at all is totally fine. in islam, everything you do is a choice, and so wearing the hijab is a choice. lots of people wear it to openly identify as muslim, some wear it because they want to please God, and some wear it to protect themselves. some don't wear it or remove it later in life, and that's fine too! some people believe it's a sin to not wear it or remove it, but again, it's always the persons choice on whether or not to wear it.
now ofc for din and for other people following his version of the creed, they have different rules. from what we know, their creed compels them to wear the helmet and never take it off in front of other beings. it's for their protection and safety, and i'm sure there are other reasons as to why they choose not to remove the helmet (i can't think of any right now bc i'm fighting a killer headache from ramadan, but i'm sure there are other reasons)
din's version of the creed DOES have "punishments" or implications with the removal of the helmet. the armorer stated that din became an apostate and is no longer a mandalorian, and therefore is not accepted in the covert unless he is forgiven for his transgressions. i don't think there is any other "punishment" or anything like that other than the stripping of identity. but ofc, there's the chance to become redeemed, as din did, by bathing in the living waters on mandalore.
so i hope that clears things up! i know i've made comparisons of the hijab and the helmet before, but i'd like for people to understand the the rules and implications of the two head coverings are different. their only relation is that they are religious coverings with the intent of protection, and that it's the persons choice to wear them. and we should respect that!
thank you so much for asking!! it's lovely for you to want to learn more, i'd love to explain things futher if you have any questions.

backstory:
TW: abandonment
with strict workaholic parents and overbearing relatives with a constant stream of ideals (that the demirci family never seemed to meet), kaan and his younger sister grew up pretty much fending for themselves. his parents were rarely home, and though they lived well above ' comfortable ' and wanted for very little, he struggled in school to make friends, he struggled at home to keep everything afloat, trying to be the glue for the family while also not losing himself to his own desires.
he loved to read, and was a great student. in his early teen years, his parents got divorced, and though he and his sister stayed with their mom... they hardly saw her after that. she would disappear for weeks at a time, and when kaan came home once to realize none of the bills were paid, the lights shut off... he knew she was probably gone forever, and he was all that his sister had now.
eventually, his sister's career took them from istanbul to the states, where he worked two, three jobs at times to support them. it was difficult, going from fairly affluent to struggling to make ends meet, but kaan put in the work, and made it happen.
it was difficult leaving his partner, and the few friends he had, back in istanbul, too. even now, kaan feels he hasn't fully settled into new york city, over a decade later...
writing has always been his truest passion - kaan wishes to be published, or work as a columnist, anything besides editing, which is his job now. it was a slow climb; he faced a lot of social struggle, almost losing out the job due to narrow-minded individuals who doubted his english ability.
but in the end, he earned the position, fair and square, working as a senior editor for a prominent lifestyle magazine. (think cosmopolitan/scarlet from the bold type). it's boring work, but pays well, and keeps him in the city to be close to his sister, who remains the most important person in his world.
he's dreamed of having a family of his own, of becoming a published author, of owning his own home, of adopting more cats... but somehow, he falls short of ever completing things for himself, always doing whatever it takes to help others.
