Author’s Note: I saw this in my requests and literally could have melted! This was so cute to write! Also, I know this is probably a tad different than you intended but I think it works just as well!

Today was so off, you couldn’t even put your finger as to why. Well. Maybe you could. Luke had only come out of his bedroom maybe once today and it sounded like it took everything in him to even say a simple “hello” or “good morning.”

You stared at the staircase from the kitchen, debating on going to check on him. Normally he would’ve made more conversation or invited you to come hang out in his room with him or something, but today? Nothing.

You practically lived here now, having spent nearly every day at his house for the past year you’ve been together, so you understood if maybe he wanted his own space, but this felt like something he would’ve said if he felt that way about.

Another moment went by before turning on your heel to go check on him without another thought. As you approached his bedroom door though, you hesitated suddenly.

If he wants space, it should be respected.

The conflicting thoughts battled in your mind but you refused to let it get in the way. What if something was wrong?

You knocked on the door softly, but loud enough he would hear it from inside.

You were about to enter when nothing but silence followed until you could hear your boyfriend’s voice telling you to come in. You frowned softly at the realization his voice didn’t seem…him.

As you opened the door, you peeked your head into the bedroom, glancing around until you found him on his bed, staring down at his phone.

“Are you okay?” You asked him, stepping into the room completely, shutting the door softly behind you as you made your way over to the bed to sit next to him. He was sat up against the headboard of his bed, mindlessly scrolling on what you could only guess was Twitter or Instagram.

He didn’t answer, not unless a soft “mm” counts, and to you, it did not.

You rested your head against his shoulder, watching him scroll. Silently, he laid his head against yours, turning his phone off and setting it in his lap.

“What’s going on, Luke?” You asked him softly, moving your head to look at him.

“Just a shitty day. I had a horrible stream last night and I also barely got any sleep afterward, and I just feel…bleh,” He sighed.

You frowned softly at his answer, “Why didn’t you tell me?”

He grabbed your hand softly, rubbing his thumb against it gently, “You don’t need to worry about me, you have your own shit going on,” He said, his voice barely above a whisper.

“You’re literally crazy, come here,” You said, pulling him into a hug.

He hugged you back with a sigh, “Sorry I’ve been so absent today.”

You pulled away, shaking your head ‘no.’

“Don’t apologize for having a bad day,” You said, “here, lay down with me,” You added.

You lay down on his bed, pulling him down with you, throwing the blanket over the two of you.

“Don’t we have stuff to do today?” He asked, after laying down reluctantly.

“Yeah, nap,” You responded with a small laugh, kissing his forehead.

For the first time all day, he smiled softly at you, and it gave you a familiar feeling of happiness.

“I missed your smile,” You told him softly as he rested his head next to yours, facing you.

He hugged your waist as he buried his face into your chest.

It wasn’t often he let himself be the one to be taken care of, but he was always the sweetest when it happened, and you enjoyed getting to return the love you felt for him.

You watched as he drifted off to sleep, running a hand through his hair softly, falling asleep yourself soon after.

The event of Dr. Lundi half-crying on the bus back home because she couldn't stream to us BUYING the SKIN will be a core memory created based on eternal friendship. There's a lot to unpack but I can't possibly ever talk about Mlynar the same way Lundi does in VC. She pulls up receipts proof of her words as well every time she mentions something.

Lundi's also leaning towards physical aggression, instant retaliation for their little baba horse.

And then I just... imploded... (This was on the basis of the parents trying to justify their child's behaviour)

While Pinkie is not too interested on the aspect of children we've been trying to involve them more in the Yumeship questions just because their relationship with Swire/Chen is SO wholesome but they're shy to actually indulge. It's alright, we will always be there for the sugarbaby ultramind that is our friend.

Vigorously searched for the video, but basically, me and the Team were watching Unusual Memes from this one channel and one of them was of a guy who walked up to his neighbour/friend's home camera and said 'Well, you DON'T get to decide when to party, I want you around now.' This is WAY longer than I anticipated and probably should be in two parts, but im lazy so it's just gonna be a long one so settle in. You settled into the plush cushion of your futon as you flipped to where you last left off of your book. You had finished a brutal eight-day stretch at the convince store you worked at and were looking forward to a couple of days off. You were hoping to get a couple of chapters into your book that was put on hold and just relax, the kettle heating up for a cup of tea, and some soft music for ambiance. You were able to get about six pages in before the sheer whistle of the kettle rang throughout your tiny apartment. You set the book down and made your way to the stove, removing the kettle and pouring the boiling water into the cup before turning the stove off. You grabbed the cup by the handle and went to sit back down, picking up the book once more and letting the now-brewing tea cool. About an hour went by and you were taking in the long-awaited relaxation you'd been craving, only to hear a notification from your phone. Taking a deep, frustrated breath you set the cup down and swiftly grabbed your phone off the coffee table. Your heart sunk a little when you saw his name pop up,

"Ichi"

It'd been a little while since the two of you had talked. Not that it was completely by choice, if you had the option to go out and have adventures with the group you'd be more than willing to. But you had an apartment to keep up with, bills to pay, and a job that required a good portion of your time, and Ichi knew that. He respected that you were trying to make it as best you could on your own and that you were trying to be independent. Frankly, that's a decent portion of why you're so fond of him because he's not one to overstep boundaries. However, you wished that were the full reason for not being as present with the group as you'd like to be. The real reason was quite sad and petty in your eyes as you reflected on it, it wasn't just about work or having to pay bills, it was more than that. The truth was, it was how big the group had gotten, and one particular member that had stood out to you.

Eri.

It wasn't that you disliked the woman, she was sweet, helpful, and genuine with everything and everyone.

But that was exactly what bothered you.

You felt as if you could never compete with her, whether it was with the street fights you got into with the group, spending some downtime with everyone, or whenever it came to Ichi's attention. She seemed to be so taken with him, and him with her, and the fact the two of them ran a business together only added salt to the wound. You didn't want to admit it, but you had grown so jealous of Eri. So much so that you distanced yourself and sorta stopped communicating with everyone. Ichi, always being inclusive, would text you regularly asking you to come to Survive and take some time to catch up. There were a few times here and there when you went and met Zhao and Joon-Gi Han, but other than that you always told him it was never a good time or that you just wanted to get some rest, which wasn't a lie, but not the whole truth either. Tonight would be no different, although you were a bit surprised at the urgency behind the text,

"Hey Y/N, can you come down to Survive tonight, we really need to talk." You sighed trying to think of a response, you really didn't want to go out tonight, but you wanted to be there for him too. Thinking of an alternative to what he offered you began typing,

"Hey Ichi, um as far as going out, tonight's not a good night. But you're more than welcome to drop by my place and chat if you like." You put the phone down and picked up your book again as you waited for a response. Almost immediately he responded,

"Are you sure you can't come to Survive, I feel it'd be best if the whole group were there for what I have to say."

"Tonight's not a good night to go out for me Ichi. If it was I would, you know that. The doors open if you still want to come by" you replied leaving it open-ended. You didn't want to have to stress about trying to look presentable to the group as terrible as it sounded. You loved them all but tonight you didn't have it in you to see them. You were tired, irritated, and just wanted to relax. Not to mention you were in no mood to see Ichi and Eri getting friendly with one another. If it was as important as Ichi said it was, then he'd stop by.

There was no response from him so you assumed he wasn't going to bother stopping in, which hurt, a lot. You turned the lights and music off, closed your book, and just sat in the dark. Tears well up in your eyes as you resist the urge to let them fall. You shouldn't be crying is what you kept telling yourself, you chose not to go, but you couldn't stop the tears from falling. You felt your heart sink deeper into your chest as you thought about the situation more and more, all you wanted was to be able to go and see the group without feeling overcrowded, to see Eri without growing resentment, to see Ichi without sadness in your eyes. You wanted it to be like old times when you first met Ichi. Adachi introduced the two of you not long after Ichi was released from prison, at first you thought he was a really weird, silly guy. But over time his quirks grew on you and you slowly began warming up to him, to the point where you were nearly inseparable. Granted he was a lot older than you, but that didn't matter to you, you were pals and loved him as a person. Until you fell for him, you didn't know how it happened, but it did and it did all at once. The way your heart skipped beats when you two were together, how your cheeks heated up when you two looked at one another, it made you go crazy but in a good way. Which is why it killed you when he and Eri began spending so much time together, but you didn't want to ruin your friendship with him either, you were between a rock and a hard place.

You wiped your tears and planned on heading to bed when there was a harsh knock at the door, causing you to jump.

He actually came.

You took a few deep breaths,

"I'll be right there," you squeaked as you tried to get yourself put together. You approached the door and opened up to see a disheveled Ichi. He was panting, his burgundy suit wrinkled, and the slightest smell of whiskey on his breath.

"May I come in," he asked in between breaths. You moved out of the way and motioned him to come in. He moved past you swiftly and made his way to the futon. You closed the door behind you and took a deep breath as you turned to him. His arms lay at his sides and his head hung over the top of the futon with his eyes closed, looking like he hadn't been this relaxed in days

"Can I make you a cup of tea," you asked not looking him in the eyes. He nodded and you rushed to the kitchen and put the kettle on. You waited until the kettle had reached the point of whistling and poured the water into the cup. Pulling out a green tea bag you plopped it in and made your way back to the living room. Ichi's eyes never left you as you set the cup on the table and sat on the floor across from him. A bit of silence passed before Ichi spoke,

"It's been a while," he said scratching the back of his head awkwardly before picking up his cup and taking a sip. You nodded awkwardly back to him,

"Yeah, been really busy at the shop." You looked down and fiddled with your fingers as he continued to try to make conversation.

"The gang misses you," he said looking at you with a sad expression settling in his eyes. You look up at him to exchange the same response. You missed them too, but you knew it would only cause more pain to see them. You nodded once more not responding this time and went back to fiddling with your hands.

"I miss you," he said looking down at his cup and looking more upset than before. This made your heart ache. You looked at him and put your hand on his, causing him to flinch,

"I've missed you too Ichi, more than you know, it's just been a rough go around lately." He knew what you meant when you said that. He knew the struggles you went through, and how you just wanted to make it on your own. You moved back into your previous sitting position and proceeded to ask,

"What's going on Ichi, your text sounded urgent." He looked up at you and you saw tears beginning to swell in his eyes. What he said next made your heart drop into your stomach,

"Arakawa's dead." His tears began to fall down his cheeks as he put his cup down and buried his face in his arm. Sobs filled to room as he continued,

"My boss, the man who took me in as one of his own, treated me like a son, gone just like that. Shot and thrown into the ocean like trash. We were gonna catch up on all these years we missed Y/N, we had all the time in the world. And now, now he's gone!" You shot up and sat next to him, embracing him as he cried out in pain. You ran your hand through his poofy hair as he rested his face into the crevasse of your neck. Your heart began to race and the heat in your cheeks rose in response, but you managed to hide it.

"I'm so sorry Ichi, I had no idea. If I'd had known sooner I would've come to see you all," you said quietly to him resting your face on his head. There were no words to explain how guilty you felt about the situation. Ichi had mentioned Arakawa a few times in the past and how he was really like a father to him throughout a portion of his life. If you had known it was that important you would've put your pride aside and gone down to Survive to see him.

"I'm so sorry Ichi," was all you could manage to say as you lightly kissed his head and a few tears dripped from your eyes from the immense guilt and grief for him. The both of you sat together and cried for a bit before he picked himself up to look at you. His face was all red and puffy and tears kept falling from his eyes as if they were an overflowing faucet. He took his thumb and wiped away the few tears from your face, looking deep into your eyes. He pulled you into his chest and you wrapped your arms around him,

"I hate seeing you cry," he whispered to you. You gripped his coat as if it were the only thing keeping you alive. He was so kind and caring, even at his lowest, most painful moment, he still took note of your pain. You pulled away to look at him once more, placing your hands on both sides of his face, wiping his tears away as he did yours, your heart beating out of your chest as your eyes met with his grey ones,

It's our last illo! I wanted to challenge myself for this one so I chose Riddles and Rebuses intending to make a bunch of themed Icons. I asked a friend for input as to what the theme should be and I got “wholesome kids' story with a pastel colour palette.” 

Ok, we can do that.

My goal is 10 icons and as part of the assignment they have to include some kind of analog component in their design. Im thinking cute little swamp-themed icons. Like frogs, lily pads and mushrooms. Because let's be real, cute slimy critters transcend the stereo-typed interests of age and gender. Show me one person who doesn’t like a little frog.

For the analog part of the assignment, I’m thinking get some textures and a colour pallet from some pencil crayons or pastels. I can use them as soft backdrops for my icons or as the fill colour itself. We shall see.

Design Direction

We managed 5 out of the 10 I was aiming for! Originally I was interested in building a frog character and following a day in their life but it occurred to me that it might be more interesting if I switched the point of view of each icon to a new character. If this was a real children's book showing the readers that more than one kind of person could have a fulfilling day seemed like a good idea.

I employed my pastel colour splotches as backdrops for the icons and used them as the basses for my colour palette. The grain on the characters themselves is a manila envelope texture from Unsplash.

Originally I was excited to make peripheral Icons focussed on things the frogs might see in a day. Like a store, or mushrooms, or cat tails, but seeing the looming deadline I ended up incorporating ideas from those icons into the five main ones.

Its structured. In the sense that the order is sequenced around the english/french alphabet set to type. A written, not just numbered note. In ones spoken language. Which requires additional cards.

The Hebrew i think it was, with latin had a numbering system set in combination with letters. But there wasn’t enough numbers in its relation to the letters so, that required the ingenuity in devising these new letters. Hint hint.

“ Back then” the alphabet was purely consonant in its structure, missing-for all intent and purposes- any numbered vowels. The intent here was the additions of various fools to fill in the gap. -Numbers that don’t have letters.-

It keeps to the classically impressed images. And adds needed weight to this highly unbalanced sequence of image significations. Castrating even.

Two strength/fortification cards. Fixes that burdening dilemma. There, one for each. Two death cards. And a whole new light in meanings. Deaths gate to an afterlife. And the white horseman. That gives credit to Waite’s contributions to be top notch. Though rewrites its old meaning. As one of the powers driving the vessel. Two sun cards, innocence not death riding its horse. Sun rise, even, one set in the evening sun as romance and play. Theres technically two temperance cards. One replacing the star as a more fitting image. And true to the worshiped, rather, idolized king of old. Two fool cards. One belonging to as the empress’ charge. One to show the blind fool. Finally(for the moment including this all) two world cards. Adding “an equality” staple to a wholesome scale.

Though being a collage of a few decks, the numbering system is what is set into chaos. The map for its order is on your finger tips. And the traditional number sequence is kept as it is. Which if its fallowed, puts the lettering system into chaos. And it all breaks down, cards need to be taken out. There’s never enough letters to fill in all the numbers. And everytime one outs a letter on a number. One grows that much wiser.

….perhaps change places of the U and I cards, not being fixed and, open to experimentation. Debate is on which strength card to use. Dane’s harmony or the classical violence. The harmony seemed right between the two natures of driven power. But here shows a the influences hovering above two queries. Though the white horseman may seem better placed as a black knight. Guardian against the crossing. Which still works. As the path to the gates of the moon and beyond are placed in Dane’s working. The child worked well in this regard to the lovers card below. Interconnecting a descending image. It doesnt lose much of the compliment. As another example, the hierophant centered in the layout. At the back of the emperor. The devil on the other side at the back of the empress. Such compliments. Doesnt pretend to play you. It lays it all out bare and easy to read. Plays true to experience. Doesmt play agaisnt the masculine. And displays a high positive nature. And it still holds alot true to the actual tarot. The feminization of the spirit. A picture board of stories. Which is a big thing in the qabalah apperently. Weed out the destructive force of the machine. My body bears witness to this. So to its equally destructive opposite called harmony. But that’s a plutonic issue about personal boundaries that the devil seems to lack.

Rhough the image i shared would temdmto confound one looking for soemthing more than a ripple.

What I Liked

the vaguely moumou-like atmosphere it has, i think it's a mix of the way the setting is described---the details of the song household, their school, the smattering of friends, lin rong's restaurant, cotton candy and orange...it just sketches out this very vivid picture of their daily life and how it shaped song yu and yue shizhi into who they are, and i rly liked that! it makes the whole story feel more alive

the food descriptions!!!!! reading this in the middle of the night is like... dang im getting hungry just reading abt it!! war flashbacks to kdrama eating scenes!!!

as usual, i have to mention the ad ost lmao all 3 seasons have such lovely theme songs

song yu with the tags slapped onto him: "cold love interest" "doting love interest" "devoted love interest"

yue zhishi: "cute protagonist" "weak protagonist"

but also they're such a deep, interesting spin on the whole "cute/weak shou" and "cold doting gong" archetype, zhichu rly rly rly writes so well, i felt it even from yybl (but also both translators for yybl n kagmy r both rly rly good as well, which contributes a lot to the reading experience). the way song yu is so cold and detached not just bc "his personality is like that" but bc he has to repress his feelings for yue zhishi, and how he's even losing sleep over it, but he won't ever say anything out loud bc he knows it's wrong... how yue zhishi is so so dependent on him, oblivious to his own feelings, how the initiative has to come from yue zhishi and yet song yu takes it upon himself to be responsible for "leading his little brother astray" but also yue zhishi won't let him take that responsibility alone!! the way i wanted them to be happy because both of them really deserve that happiness... sigh

there r just so many small moments that it's hard to describe in one piece. song yu and yue zhishi's relationship is built upon all of these small moments glittering like stardust, gathered up inside a crystal clear bottle. when exactly did they fall in love? these two probably don't even know it themselves, but before they realized it, the crystal bottle has been filled with so much glittering stardust, their precious memories etched on each fragment

the cute au where they meet for the first time but have long since fallen in love w each other from exchanging their letters, very wholesome very cute i even love its placement (2 chapters right before the very last extra) and how it ties in to the last extra... sigh again

i cried at the letter song yu wrote actually that entire sequence of them coming out to the parents broke my heart

the car scenes how can i not mention the car scenes, zhichu car scenes r absolutely 😔👌

as a whole, zhichu also writes with this... sort of hopeful tone. like, her version of reality is a very very gentle and hopeful one. she doesn't outright gloss over gay relationship as "gay marriage is legal now for plot convenience reasons" but she also treats it as like, something people will eventually accept. her books are honestly just very gentle and warm (even though kagmy has like this melancholic undertone throughout the text, which can't be avoided but also makes it a p heavy read despite the deceptive "slice of life childhood friend romance" plot)

also also that quote on the s3 ad banner art which is also a spoiler to the last sentence of the main story, which is also the reference of s1 theme song title...
