In the dimly lit chambers of the villain's stronghold, the anticipation of William Rex's birthday hangs in the air like a tangible presence. The clock ticks steadily towards midnight, marking the onset of another year for the enigmatic anti-hero.
**William **: "Another year, another chapter in this endless saga. What surprises does fate have in store for me tonight?"
As the clock strikes twelve, a haunting melody resonates through the corridors, drawing William's attention to a figure silhouetted against the moonlit backdrop.
"Happy birthday, William. I come bearing a gift for the one who walks the path between darkness and light."
A flicker of curiosity dances in William's eyes as he regards you, his unexpected visitor, with a mixture of intrigue and bemusement.
**William *: "Ah, my dear robin, fluttering into the shadows once more. What have you brought for this weary soul?"
Your heart swells at the affectionate nickname, a testament to the bond that has formed between you despite the chaos that surrounds you.
"I thought this might offer a glimmer of solace amidst the shadows that cloak your world."
Hand in hand, William leads you to a secluded alcove beneath the star-strewn sky, where the weight of his burdens seems to lift, if only for a fleeting moment.
**William **: "Here, under the watchful gaze of the stars, we can speak freely, unencumbered by the expectations of the world."
As the night unfolds, William's guarded facade begins to crumble, revealing the vulnerability that lies beneath.
**William :**: "My dear robin, you have a way of peeling back the layers of my defenses, revealing truths I've long kept hidden."
In the quiet hours before dawn, bathed in the soft glow of moonlight, you find yourself drawn into William's embrace, the barriers between you melting away like frost in the warmth of the morning sun.
"With you, William, I feel as though I've found a home amidst the chaos. You've shown me that even in the darkest of times, there is light to be found."
**William **: "And with you, my dear robin, I've found a sense of purpose I never thought possible. Together, we can face whatever challenges lie ahead."
As the first light of dawn breaks on the horizon, casting a golden hue over the world, William Rex stands before you, his heart laid bare in the quiet intimacy of the moment.
**William *: "On this day, with you by my side, I feel as though I can conquer the world. My dear robin, you've given me a gift beyond measure."
With a tender smile, he reaches for your hand, his fingers intertwining with yours in a silent vow of unwavering devotion.
As they stand on the precipice of a new day, William and his beloved robin face the future with courage and determination, knowing that whatever trials may come, they will face them together.
"Happy birthday, William. Here's to many more adventures, and to the love that binds us, stronger than any chains of fate."
**William **: "And to you, my dear robin, my partner in crime and in love. With you by my side, there's nothing we can't overcome."
Hand in hand, they step forward into the dawn, ready to embrace whatever challenges and joys the future may hold, secure in the knowledge that their love will light the way through the darkest of nights.

The entire earth was shaking. Her grip against the window, face pressed against it, trembled. She cried out to anyone who could here, calling for her parents. Wishing they were okay. Wishing they knew what would happen. Wishing that they’d scoop her up and tell her it was all a dream. Thankfully, her mom’s arms lifted her up, but she didn’t know where her dad was. She yelled for him, pleaded for him, begged for her mom to stop so they could find him. She’d find out later that he was dead.
Who could have predicted that those exact feelings would come back to haunt Kate? The identical state of not knowing.
Kate hated the unknown. The unknown was a pain in her ass. That panicked moment that lasted only seconds but felt like years when she couldn’t find her mother or father in the battle of New York — the endless possibilities that flew threw her young mind because their fate had been unknown. Until her mother picked her up and carried her to safety, of course. She’d never forget it, though, how the unknown captured her and held her hostage.
That familiar fear that she thought she had conquered after she grieved her father came back when Clint entered her apartment, caring her unconscious girlfriend. It reminded Kate that the unknown could and would strike at any given time — especially when you least expected it. That was what the unknown was all about, wasn’t it? Anything could happen at any time in anyplace? Kate had done her best to predict and calculate the possibilities of what could go wrong after her father’s death, and after years of it subsequently working, she took a moment to relax because she has an amazing girlfriend and a new friend and there’s no immediate danger so the unknown crashes.
It barreled into her face first because neither Clint nor Kate fully knew what happened, as evidenced by Clint’s hurried mumble of an explanation as he carried Y/N to the couch. Just seconds ago Kate was relaxing with Lucky, and now she was about to play doctor.
“We-we were just going out for a walk ‘cause Y/N was gonna visit Yelena and I needed to pick up dog food, yeah?” Clint began, only continuing when Kate nodded as she recalled the earlier discussion of their plans. “So I go into the store and when I come out she’s gone. Doesn’t answer her phone. And I panic, right? Then—then she comes back and says something about some guy before she just faints—”
Kate let the story wash over her as she knelt down next to the couch and took in her girlfriend’s appearance, taking a few moments to actually internalize what Clint said. Cuts littered Y/N’s face and arms and bruises started to form on her shoulder and legs. Kate had fought Echo and her boys enough times to know that they must of done more to her, though.
“I gotta go find them. They gotta be nearby. I gotta go find them,” Clint rushed out, already going to grab his bow and arrows. He quickly paused, though, looking back at Kate and Y/N. “Will you be okay with her?”
This snapped Kate out of her daze. She looked over her shoulder, making eye contact with Clint. “Oh, yes, yes,” she said, hurrying to stand up and run to the bathroom, in search of the first aid kit.
Clint spared one last glance at Y/N before he left, silently apologizing.
Kate returned just as he shut the door behind him but paid it no mind, all her attention being focused on Y/N. She gently rolled up Y/N’s shirt and a small gasp escaped her lips when she saw her bloodied and bruised hip. That was her biggest wound so Kate decided to tend to it first, opening up the kit and finding bandages and rubbing alcohol.
The brunette cursed silently, knowing that rubbing alcohol wasn’t the best — but what other choice did she have? Taking a cloth and putting said rubbing alcohol on it, Kate took a breath before dabbing the wound with it.
Almost immediately, Y/N’s eyes flew up and she did her best to get away, feeling the sting instantly. However, Kate could easily tell that she was confused, not fully conscious yet.
“Y/N, Y/N,” Kate said, reaching out to take Y/N’s arm to try and calm her down.
She just scrambled away, but really couldn’t go far when she was pressed against the couch. “It hurts,” Y/N complained, shaking her head.
Kate bit her lip, thinking on her feet. “I know, I know, but the quicker you let me do it, the quicker it’s over,” she pointed out.
Y/N didn’t seem to understand and still protested. A quick glance at her wound told Kate that she needed to act now before it got infected. “I’m sorry,” she whispered, before reluctantly pressing the cloth against the wound once more, making Y/N cry out and thrash.
It got to the point where to successfully clean the wound, Kate had to nearly pin her down. Each cry that left her lips was like a punch to Kate’s entire body. Her own eyes were tearing up, knowing that she was causing the person she loved most distress. Finally, Y/N calmed down and either passed out or fell asleep — Kate sincerely hoped it was the latter — and Kate finished her makeshift doctor role.
When she sat back and observed Y/N’s now calm face, it dawned on the sort-of-superhero that she was not as nearly qualified enough to handle Y/N’s injuries and do a good job. Hell, she was barely able to slap bandaids on her own cuts and scrapes without screwing it up! Her eyes floated over to her phone, which had been left on the table, knowing that there was only one person that could help at this point.
“Kate Bishop! Is my sister on her way?” Yelena’s enthusiastic voice chimed in Kate’s ear, which made it that much harder for what she was about to say.
“She was - she was walking with Clint when, well, I don’t know exactly what happened, but some guy a-attacked her. Clint brought her back, unconscious. She woke up in pain when I started to clean a wound on her hip but eventually fell back asleep. I-I don’t know how else to help her, though, I need you,” Kate explained, eyes tearing up once more.
Yelena was silent on the other end. Just as the brunette parted her lips to ask if she was still there, the blonde responded shortly. “I’ll be right there.” Seconds later, the line went dead.
She was true to her word — walking in only about ten minutes later. Kate had been putting pressure on Y/N’s wound when she entered, not having bothered to try bandaging it because she knew she would do it wrong. Without a word, Yelena took over, grabbing a bandage.
Kate watched her intently as she worked, determined to memorize every move Yelena was making so she could replicate it for the future. Due to Yelena’s experience and efficiency, it didn’t take her that long.
“Now, we wait,” Yelena announced, standing up and going to sit in an armchair across the room. Kate quickly glanced up at her and mirrored her moves, sitting in an armchair close to the couch.
They both sat in silence, gazes trained on unconscious Y/N. It wasn’t long before Kate got restless, needing something to do. At first, she placated herself by tapping her fingers against the chair in a quiet rythme. But, after catching an annoyed glance from Yelena out of the corner of her eye, Kate decided to do something else.
She stood up and quickly left the room. Yelena didn’t pay that much mind until she returned carrying a fluffy purple pillow and a snugly blanket. Kate kneeled down beside Y/N and Yelena got up, moving to help the brunette.
She gently grabbed her sister and pulled her up, holding her so she wouldn’t fall. When Kate slid the pillow down on the couch, Yelena leaned her back. Kate then laid the blanket on Y/N and Yelena lifted her sister’s legs, sat down, and put them on her lap. Kate sent a small smile at Yelena before returning to her chair.
After a couple of more minutes, Yelena’s voice cut through the silence that had been building up. “Natasha would have liked you as a partner for our little sister. You’re good for her,” she said, each word carefully laid out like glass.
This caused Kate to take a deep breath. She looked over at Yelena, lips almost trembling because she didn’t know whether to ask this or not. But she needed to know. “Do you think that?”
Yelena’s careful gaze never left her sister but she did manage a small smile and a nod. Relief flooded through Kate. She had never wanted the parents’s — or the sister’s — approval before, but having it lifted a weight off her shoulders.
“Glad you two are bonding,” came Y/N’s croaky voice, accompanied with blinking her eyes open.
Both Yelena and Kate sat straight up, eager to help Y/N. She managed to ease herself up and smiled at her girlfriend and sister. “Hi,” she said, coughing and clearing out her throat. “I’m sorry about before,” she added to Kate.
Kate just shook her head. “No apology needed,” she said, grinning and thrilled that she was even awake. “Do you want to talk about what happened?”
Y/N’s face went somber, a small frown washing over her previous smile. She looked at Kate sadly. “It was Jack who attacked me,” she said in a tone just above a whisper.
Kate’s jaw dropped and she quickly got up and went to envelope Y/N in a hug. “I’m so sorry,” she whispered, and Y/N hugged her back, reaching out an arm to invite Yelena into the hug as well.
The blonde gladly joined but, after nearly a minute, Y/N tapped their shoulders. “Okay, you’re crushing me,” she warned, chuckling.

Your lover is going through a phase.
Perhaps you should have expected this much after the things that he's gone through, and the things that he is going through. The Archon War does not pick its victims. Saints and sinners, weak and strong, participants and bystanders; they all have one thing in common, they all can die any day now as the war rages on.
The thought of impending doom puts your heart into great unease as your arms tighten, lips softly pecking the red diamond on the Yaksha's forehead as he sighs in what you hope was relief.
The adepti are strong and aid in this war under the stead of Rex Lapis, but on the forefront of greater danger leads the Yakshas. The fateful battle between Osial and the Geo Archon ended not too long ago to put an end against the Lord's destructive ministrations, but Gods do not die, only slumber; his hatred in great intensities brought forth demonic plague that now haunts the blood bathed lands of Liyue. With his indispensable power and contractual obligation, Xiao became one of the five known Yakshas devoted to conquering those evil.
You were no beast in the battlefield but alongside Cloud Retainer and Ganyu you hold well in ensuring the well-being of mankind, but you only wish there was anything you can do to help the true warriors of the Harbour.
"How are you feeling?" You ran your hands through his chopped hair as his body leans against you, still tense. Xiao produces a strangled groan upon the question, a sound you still have yet to grow accustomed to.
It was a side effect even the glorified Archon did not expect. Yet it was too late to back down from the duties, to turn away from the chaos.
"Still standing, nothing I cannot handle," leaning away from your hold, his honey eyes then sets upon yours in gentle reassurance. Exposed fingers softly brushing against your cheekbone reminiscent of a flutter, so light it sends your heart into a faster pace. "And on your end? I have heard of the mortals establishing a new type of governance, how is it faring?"
Xiao hooks his fingers under your chin in full attention, and the pairing with his tantalizing smile sent your mind melting. "It's going-," your cleared your throat of the strangled pitch you produced and tried again, "Going great! Ganyu made it her duty to oversee it as the secretary."
"That is a fine arrangement." He hums inquisitively but you both know his attention was on somewhere else, what with the way his sharp orbs kept flickering to gaze on your lips. And with how his face was slowly, surely drawing near.
"Indeed, indeed." Breathed you as you closed your eyes, ready to capture his lips for a longing kiss, his other hand rests on your lower back to guide you to his lap—
When the shutter doors slammed open, the interruption causing you to yelp as Xiao embarrassingly hides your head to his exposed chest. That did NOT lessen the warmth of your cheeks.
"Conqueror of Demons! I- I'm sorry to interrupt-"
"Pervases, go on."
"The Yaksha of flames-" A rumbling roar of a scream had all three of you shoot your heads up in alert. And within seconds you had scrambled to your feet, rushing out of the shrine to investigate the commotion. The atmosphere had you choking from the scent of arson, black smoke erupting from the burning grass and natural flora around the area.
But in the middle of the ruins had you almost dispelling the contents of your stomach, your hand shooting up to cover your mouth at the the sight. Besides you Xiao dashes past in a vain attempt to quell the flames— the lick of fire that burned the Pyro Yaksha whole, who screams in both agony and anguish over the deep unknown, skin and clothes turning black and charred.
Xiao's swings barely made a dent to the wall of fire that prevents anyone from coming close to the Yaksha. "Please, leave me alone! Let me go! Stop it!" There was an illusionary sense to her words as she screams at the empty void in front and within her, piercing and aching. You called for her name, shouted, in hopes that she may snap out of it.
Dried up tears came upon her ruby gaze as it flickers over to yours. She heard you. Her lips quivered into those of familiarity and she opens her mouth- only to scream her loudest, one last painful cry, as her body drops as a smoking corpse.
Charred and pure black. Twitching and steaming, but not alive.
You didn't realize you were crying until you felt the comfort of Xiao's hand wiping at your cheek, his red fingerless gloves catching the dampness as you released your sobs.
You didn't notice the gradual decrease of red in his clothing until you looked at him one day without feeling a pang on your chest. When you looked at him with only curiousity upon him calling your name, he offered a smile as he cups your cheek; it didn't feel like the same traumatic time when the Yaksha died, your cheek leaning on his cerulean palm.
It wasn't red. Maybe that's what drove away your thoughts.
"It looks good on you," you mumbled as you watched his now black and green hair sway from the breeze.
"Thank you."
Tumblr media
The clouds of Jueyun Karst brings peace to all that gazes on it. That may be the reason why it was Menogias' favorite place to sit by upon finishing her duties for the day, and at times she invites you over when you are done with your own; 'your presence soothes me, it's unfair that Xiao gets to keep you to himself, even if he is your lover!' you giggle at the verbatim the Hydro Yaksha always spouts everytime she drags you away from the other, with a cute yet teasing pout on her pristine face.
Those moments always has you laughing guiltily as you wave to Xiao, who only dons a gentle smile at you two's dynamic.
But she was beautiful and elegant despite her slaughtering hands, with a mind vivid and witty.
And so you find peace next to her, as both of your hands weave cloth into apparels to calm your minds. She had always been an avid fan of stitching and knitting even her own clothes, the only reason you knew how to weave the needle was because of her incessant teachings. Right now she knits a sleeve of beautiful patterns while you took on the duty to make a wooly scarf. Jueyun Karst is cold.
"How are you faring, dear? I have heard you and Xiao-" your hands paused at the implications, "-were witness to the passing of the Yaksha Indarias. Changes are glaring among that of the Conqueror of Demons, but you are a special case who is not under the influence of the karmic binds."
Her cold blue gaze seem to pierce your soul unintentionally and you couldn't bring yourself to look upon them.
You gulped and ceased on finishing the blanket to look at her own work. It was pretty. Tiring and fearful, not just for yourself, but for her too. And especially Xiao.
She holds you close in a soft embrace as you poured your honest confessions; it felt unfair for them to suffer like this, driven to self-destruction or to eternal agony. Menogias strokes your hair affectionately as she reassures your worries.
After all, they knew their oath would come to this.
And they still honored their duties to protect Liyue, for both the mortals and the realm of the Adepti.
"H-How about you?" You sniffled, looking up at her now gentle gaze. "Have you been feeling well? I don't want you to be destroyed by your own mind too."
The Yaksha's gracious smile parts after a pause to finally reply, when a glint from the side suddenly interrupted your peace-
azure pupils dilated upon recognition;
your body flies back upon her powerful push;
blood spurs from her right thigh as a jagged pillar of rock pierces through;
your back and hitting the cliff's compact ground as your vision swims.
No, no, no, no, you recognize that glow even if it was similar to another. Your body whimpers as you struggle to get up, rolling to your side to see the inevitable— the floating silhouette of the Geo Yaksha raises his arm where an orb glows over it, a single eye glows from his shadow...
The last you saw was the flash of neons and black before the world was engulfed by a blinding light.
The next thing you know you were desperately trying not to puke as you cradled the mawled and still bleeding corpse of Menogias, weakly patting her cheeks as your desperate attempts to wake her- to convince yourself that she was still alive. That the spears of stones impaled through numerous part of her body was nonexistent.
Behind you Xiao flicks his head to the side as his mask disperses. His jade spear dripping with blood as her gentle eyes hardened as it squeezes out the tears.
"(Y/N)," your wails turned into whimpers and hiccups, loose arms wrapping around your waist as Xiao pulls you away from the bloody mess. You didn't have the spirit to protest, your eyes still trained on the deceased Yaksha's face as you wept in your lover's arms.
A familiar censer that wasn't there before hangs by his waist.
And when the pain didn't make you weep anymore, a beautifully woven sleeve of blue and clouds adorn his left arm. Those who live after a millenia would not be aware of a reminiscent and deep scar hidden beneath it.
"I was not aware you were out of your domain," the moment he landed, a firm hand grasps your waist to keep you steady on the balcony's railings. Where you're currently perched on, precariously.
You were still unused to the purple cloth that flows behind him. But it matches the wind that comes with him, and the beautiful clashes of colors that makes up who he is now. He was not reminiscent of the red gentleness that he was 2000 years ago, but a teal shadow that lingers at the edges of your vision as a blur.
"I wanted to thank you for purging the malignant monsters that haunted my domain by the cavern," your gaze falls away from the moon as you swing your legs up and over, turning to face the Inn and him yet still remaining seated on the railing.
His eyes were hostile, not at all indicative of the lightness it had long ago. Chest covered in white, and the many memorabilias that dangle with him. Xiao's hands rests on the railing by your side as your fingertip traces the Vajra hanging by his neck, chunky to pointy; Pervases, the name leaves your lips in a whisper.
A guttural growl leaves him in intensity that had you reeling yet still worried for him. Behind his lidded eyes were pure hurt from the fear you conveyed, but he shook his head at all the thoughts that invades. Xiao lets loose a tired yet mocking laugh, "I just remembered something unpleasant."
Before he can turn back to gaze at your ethereal form, you've thrown your arms around his head to pull him against your chest. Your grip and uneven heartbeat alerted him of your will to not cry at his misfortune; such sympathy is wasted on him, yet he wraps his arms around you close in a gentleness that once again reflects his deepest trait.
"...your blessings, not your flaws."
At the sound of your familiar lyrics, as if with a mind of its own, the tension on his shoulders drop immediately into your warmth.
"You've got it all, you lost your mind in the sound;
There's so much more, you can reclaim your crown;
You're in control, rid of the monsters inside your head;
Put all your faults to bed."
Urged the strokes of your hand on his head, the voices quiet into almost nothingness. The Conqueror of Demons smiles again.
"You can be king again."
To the realm of the Adepti and those who knows even the slightest of him, it was nothing to debate about when it is claimed that you were the real reason that the golden-winged king, the Conqueror of Demons— that Xiao still exists today.

You Like Him But He Likes Someone Else
Pairing(s): No Pairings (mentionings of JiroXKaminari and DekuXUraraka but nothing too detailed)
Character Count: 4782
Warning(s): angst, reader cries and is upset, there is no comfort and no happy endings, mention of other characters, I cried a little while writing this
Summary: read title
🥦Izuku Midoriya🥦
Oh no.
No.
Why did you have to tell him? It’s not that he’s upset with you, he's just...surprised. Surprised was putting it gently. You’ve liked Deku the moment he walked into the hero course. He wasn’t pervy and objectifying like Kaminari and Mineta, he wasn’t stand-offish like Tokoyami or Todoroki, and he wasn’t difficult to talk to like Bakugou. He was kind, caring and it made your heart swoon the second you met him. But you met him a second too late because she got to him first. It wasn’t like you could blame him; Uraraka was a beautiful girl, always kind and eager to make new friends. So no matter how hard you tried to hate her, you just couldn’t. She was much too kind and it wasn’t her fault. Hell, it wasn’t even Midoria’s fault either when you tried to blame him, too. It was yours because you kept it inside too long and that decision came back to haunt you in a very bad way. The moment you spilled your guts, you knew you’ve done a bad thing. Midoriya tried very hard to be friends with you afterwards, at first, but it was awkward now and he avoided you. Maybe you should’ve seen it coming, maybe you should’ve told him sooner and then maybe, just maybe, things would’ve been different. But the damage had been done and on top of that, you ruined a friendship. So you went your way and he went his….with her. You left yourself vulnerable and then he just left, leaving you to pick up the pieces. He went on to conquer the world, becoming the #1 hero just like he always knew he would. But as you stared at the news header, eyes glued to the headline, you were taken back to that fateful day and it all came rushing back to haunt you once more.
PRO HEROS IZUKU MIDORIYA AND OCHACO URARAKA HAVE OFFICIALLY TIED THE KNOT!
💥Bakugou Katsuki💥
You’re trying very hard not to cry right now.
But as the seconds lingered on, it was slowly becoming more and more impossible and now you feel like an ant under a magnifying glass. The intensity was blistering and you tried so hard to keep your ground. But let’s get real, this is Bakugou we’re talking about. As red, narrowed eyes looked directly into your soul, straight through you, the message was pretty clear:No. You knew it was a long shot, liking the sandy haired pro hero, but you just couldn’t help yourself. The longer you spent with him, the more your heart yearned for more. You tried to avoid him (you really did) but that only backfired because you suddenly found yourself looking for him and even wondering Would Bakugou be there? whenever there was a training session going on. You thought that maybe if you just told him directly, keeping a calm and cool exterior then maybe he would say yes.
You couldn’t have been more wrong.
Insults as sharp as a razor were thrown at you and you just stood there and took it, too scared and vulnerable to say anything else or even leave. Kaminari, Kirishima and even Deku tried to tell him to let up, that you didn’t do anything wrong and to leave you be. Even Todoroki felt bad as he watched Anger Management cut into you with no hesitation and with no regards as to who was around to see it.
But the damage had already been done.
⚡Denki Kaminari⚡
He’s trying very hard to let you down gently.
You’re his best friend and he never wanted to hurt you. But watching your face grow more and more with despair, it was pretty obvious that there was only one way to say this. He cares for you and he does love you….but not in the way it counts or matters. This is the last thing he wants but he just got with Jiro and he’s not a cheater nor would he leave her so soon. You’re speechless, literally, and you keep trying to find the right words to make this less awkward. But every time you go to open your mouth to speak, sobs are threatening to spill and you just close your mouth again, finding it much easier to keep quiet. You want to flee, run into your dorm and never come out and you’re considering it. But locking yourself in your room won’t fix things, not when you still have class the next day and you’re expected to be there. You try hard to understand all of this and Kaminari can see the desperation in your eyes as your mind races, each thought hitting the same questions: What now? How can you go on when the one person you care about the most won’t even spare you a single glance? You see the way his eyes light up when she walks into the room, you see the way he’s quick to go and protect her when she’s down, you hear the way he praises her for being so talented and it lingers in the back of your head more and more as the days go by. Kaminari hates this because he knows he’s just lost a friend and he’s gonna regret that for as long as he lives.
But how can you compete with someone who shines so perfectly in the spotlight?
Because, after all, you can never be her.

Hello there, ladies and gentleman, and welcome to the official Villainstuck roleplay and ask blog!
For those locked out of the loop, Villainstuck is where I take my favorite Homestuck characters and transform them into the next big bad of Homestuck. Head to my main @autisticsupervillain and scroll under the villainstuck tag for more details. Credit to @rabble-dabble for the header and @rogueofrageedits for the profile picture.
This blog currently has five muses, but I'll add more as I go along. Each is the villain of their own story and while I'll do interactions between them, those are to be considered non-canon and tagged as such. I'll list each of them below, along with a brief summary of their backstories and personalities for your convenience. I'll reblog the much longer, complete summaries for them from my main with the tag "origins" for you to check out later at your convenience.
Lord Egbert
After the events of the game, John Egbert falls into a depressive slump that seems endless. He's unsatisfied with his life on Earth C and decides to travel back in time with his Retcon Powers to fix it. Unfortunately, he finds he can't fix his life without screwing over someone else. So, he decides to become powerful enough to influence the plot so that he can give everyone a happy ending. To this end, he manipulates Lord English's remaining followers, gathers versions of his friends from doomed timelines to join him, and sets about stealing powers from people so he can rewrite reality. Despite his benevolent goals, he's utterly ruthless in his efforts to create a perfect world for everyone and he hides his guilt over such behind a facade of cartoon villainy.
The Cancer King
After being kidnapped and mentally abused by The Condescension during her invasion of Earth C, Karkat is left doubting his own self worth. This sends him into a self destructive spiral as he wallows in all of his past mistakes until he decides to travel back and erase them. This results in a horrific distopia, which only feeds his guilt complex. He decides that it's his job to fix every problem everywhere, for everyone, and sets about trying to gain control of the plot the same way Lord Egbert did. To this end, he recruits doomed versions of his friends to help him drain the life force from people all across Paradox Space, convinced that he can undo whatever damage he causes once he controls the narrative. Depressed and unfettered, Karkat becomes a far bigger threat than the Condesce ever could be in his quest to undo his mistakes and save the multiverse.
Madame Megido
While adventuring out with Sollux one day, Aradia discovers a prophesy explaning that Paradox Space exists in a loop. A big bad villain will rise up, cause mass destruction, threaten the multiverse, and eventually be stopped. The next villain in this loop? Aradia Megido. So, she enlists help from Sollux, Feferi, and John to try and break the loop, but, as her efforts continue to prove fruitless, she gets more desperate. She starts crossing some lines, even draining the life force from people. Her friends try to stop her, but Aradia is determined. She'll break the loop, she'll destroy fate itself, even if she has to betray everyone to get there.
The Makara Sisters
It all started out so well. Calliope had brought her God-Tier counterpart and Gamzee Makara to the main timeline in hopes of giving them the happy ending that they deserve, but when Tavros doesn't forgive him, Gamzee falls into a depressive slump. The Calliopes attempts to snap him out of it either don't work or actively make things worse, making them more desperate to help him. To this end, they search for the Debug Tool, an artifact that will allow them to remove Gamzee's problems from his very code. The problem is, they end up spreading an epidemic of deadly glitches across Paradox Space in their efforts to retrieve it. Inadvertently corrupting and destroying entire timelines. They continue their quest regardless, convinced the Debug Tool is the only thing that can save their father and Paradox Space. Completely oblivious to the fact that they are the biggest threat to both.
Queen of the House
After being manipulated by Mindfang into almost destroying the planet, Vriska is forced to resort to extreme measures to rebuild Earth C. Becoming protective of the new world she's created, Vriska becomes a dictator out to preemptively conquer the multiverse in order to protect her new world from it.

// the king. oikawa tooru //
Warnings: mentions of death
Word Count: 1.9K
Notes: This is the final installment of the mini-series “Soldier, Poet, King” influenced by the song of the same name by The Oh Hellos.  I might make a second part to this or maybe just do a little drabble to finish it off?? i have to add the header later because my dumbass F O R G O T to make one and i wanna sleep ;-;
“You’re a monster.”
“I don’t care if you’re my husband.  I want nothing to do with you.”
“I refuse to sleep in the same bed as you.”
“You’re just like your father, only caring when it benefits you.”
Each hateful comment that you threw at him pulled the air from his lungs.  He’d never been talked to in such a way, but now, hearing those words drip like poison from the lips of his own wife was like a punch to the stomach.  Tooru knew going into the marriage that things were going to be rocky, but he didn’t expect it to be this bad.  He thought that given a few weeks, he’d be able to win you over with his charming personality and the two of you could enjoy a happy life together, ruling over one of the most powerful nations.
But, that was so far from the truth.  Any attempts at physical contact were shoved away.  Conversation was cut short by a snide remark from you, leaving the young king to sit with all of the gnawing guilt in his chest.  Because, every word that you uttered, he believed to be true.  He was a monster.  Well, maybe not him specifically, but his family was a completely different story.
There was a reason that the Oikawa family was the head of such an immense kingdom, one that stretched farther than one could ever fathom.  A feared kingdom and one with riches beyond your wildest dreams.  An intimidating military with ranks upon ranks of well-equipped soldiers.  Yes, that was the Riviere Kingdom, a kingdom that burned fear into its people and a king to match that scary demeanor.  The king that had worn the crown before Tooru, his father, was as ruthless as they come, building the once small kingdom into the powerhouse that it is today.  Smaller surrounding nations were on their knees, begging to be spared, but they were only swallowed by the overwhelming military force before there was even a chance to protest.  And that was the game for years.  Smaller nations were taken in, allowing the nation to swell in size and power, allowing it to move on to even bigger targets.  It was monstrous.
But, it wasn’t like Tooru could do anything about it now.  What did you want him to do?  Give everyone their land back and let them break off into their own countries again?  They would starve and die.  People had become reliant on the aid of the kingdom, so who was he to just whisk that all away from them?  Everything was years in the past, he had barely been born when his father's rampage had reached its peak and he was only seven when the final obstacle was conquered, too young to think any ill of his father’s ways.
The Gledria Kingdom had been the goal from the very beginning.  It was the biggest and best, but late King Oikawa couldn’t have that, could he?  Tooru could remember that overwhelming swell of pride that his father carried as the royal family of the newly-fallen kingdom knelt before the king in defeat.  A king with weary eyes, dark circles and heavy wrinkles from years of stress, a queen with gentle features and lips that probably had the potential to carry the sweetest smile, and between them knelt a young girl, likely no older than the young prince himself.  Her eyes were puffy and there was a glisten of snot streaming from her nose, the fear evident in her body as she knelt there trembling.
“I’d like to make a deal,” the fallen king states simply, his voice as commanding, steady, as if he was the one in charge.  “Your son, is he betrothed already?”
Tooru’s cheeks turned hot, the attention suddenly being turned to him.  “He’s not.”
“Then I would like to offer my daughter’s hand.  Before you refuse, I want you to think about what this could mean for you.  You are free of the burden of an even grander kingdom by letting us walk free and rebuild our home.  Not only that, we are now aligned with you, your majesty.  Our children will act as the peace treaty between our two kingdoms.”
It had been a tempting offer, one that was not refused.  And for ten years, the deal remained in tact.  The two lived in harmony, only engaging with one another when it was necessary.  But, things got boring and the death of King Oikawa was coming sooner rather than later.  It was his last mission.  Put an end to the Gledria Kingdom.
Tooru could still remember the look on your face when you were dragged into the castle on that fateful day.  You had been so eerily easy.  There were no tears, no pain, just emptiness hidden behind those deep eyes.  Your dress had been tattered, hair had been matted and tangled.  You looked like some kind of creature that Prince Tooru had only read about.  He could do nothing but watch as the handmaids took you away to clean the blood of your people off of your shell of a body.
Even now, years after the fall of your home, there was still hate and bitterness, but Tooru couldn’t even blame you.  On the night of your wedding, you had refused to speak to him, let alone consummate your marriage.  Shortly following the death of his father, when Prince Tooru was given his new title of King and you were crowned as his queen, there was nothing.  No words of celebration, no smiles were shared.  The tension in the air surrounding the young pair never dropped.  If you ever looked at him, it was only through narrowed eyes.  If you ever spoke to him, your words stung like a thousand wasps.  You were cold to him, refusing to even give him a chance, refusing to believe that he was not his father, refusing to believe that they were anything but the same.
The people noticed it in only a matter of months.  It was like the clouds had opened up and the sun was finally able to shine through.  After years of war, there was peace in the kingdom once again.  Aid was given to those who had lost everything and King Tooru was adament on purchasing his silks and fabrics from within the Riveire Kingdom to help support his people in an effort to get them back on their feet.  Festivals that had long since stopped from fear of the late king’s wrath, now filled the squares all over again.  From within the castle, there were nights where the merry cheers and laughter of people down in the village carried on the summer air as they rejoiced in a new sense of freedom that they hadn’t felt in a long time.
And it was those nights that he was able to feel closest to you.  It wasn’t much, but every night that the music could be heard, he could find you on the balcony that extended from the bedroom that the two of you were meant to share.  Your hair would sway gently in the warm breeze, face aglow with moonlight, letting the night consume you in all of its beauty.  If he listened closely, he could hear you humming along to the tune of some song that he had heard you hum a million times, but would never tell him the name of.  Some nights, if he watched you long enough, Tooru could watch you slowly start to sway as you get lost in the song that echoed in your head.
“We should go,” was all he had said to you.
It caught you off guard.  There was a sudden abruptness to his words, but the gentle tone that he always used when talking to you never left.  “What are you talking about?”
“A festival.  We should go sometime.  It could be fun, don’t you think?  Mother would never let me go when I was younger.  She thought commoners were filthy and when my father started his reign of terror, the festivals and parties stopped all together.”  Tooru leaned on the rail of the balcony a few feet away from you, giving you your space, while still being near you.  The fact that you didn’t immediately move away felt like a win in his book.  “Have you ever been to one?”
You simply nod.  You’re silent for a long time, he thinks the conversation is over until he sees your mouth open.  “We used to go all of the time.  If my father knew there was going to be a festival, he would take me.  We would dance and he’d lift me up and spin me around.  He would buy food and drinks for everyone there, so every single person could have a good time and not have to worry about expenditures.”  Tooru looked over at you as your words trailed off.  A soft smile graced your features.  It was the very first smile that he had ever seen from you, but it fell quickly.  “But that was before-”
“Yeah.  I know.”
“I really don’t think you do.  Do you really understand what your father did to us?  To every single kingdom that fell on their knees before him?  My people were slaughtered, Tooru.  I watched my parents die because your father betrayed them and you stand here and genuinely expect me to see you in a different light.  You may not be your father, but you’re still an Oikawa.  You carry all of that bloodshed on your shoulders now.  You could be the kindest king in the world, but nothing is going to reverse the past.”
“You’re right and I wish that there was something that I could do to fix everything.  If I could go back and stop him from doing what he did to your kingdom, I would do it in a heartbeat, but we didn’t know that it was coming either.  But, Y/N, we can’t keep living like this.  If you don’t want to love me, I can live with that, but I beg that you let me show you that I am more than just my father’s son.  I’m an Oikawa and that’s something that I can’t change, but I can change the feelings that come with hearing that name.  I wish nothing but the best for my people, our people, but that has to start here.”
“What are you saying?”
“Let me take you to one festival.  We can dance until your feet tire so much that I have to carry you home.  I’ll spin you around until you’re so dizzy that you can’t see straight.  We can eat and drink and laugh until your stomach hurts.  You don’t have to say yes, but I want to show you that I am King Oikawa Tooru and I am not the same person that my father was.  So, what do you say?  Will you do me the honor of being my dance partner for just one festival?”

╳  wouldn't you let me know if you were thinking LESS of me ? that's what she asked me, what was promised, what we both agreed. truthfully if you ever go, you'll drop me STRAIGHT to hell's seventh circle. ✕ —— TASK 002. PLAYLIST
INSIGHT:
taeil’s playlist is actually very light in some ways and very deep in other ways. his playlist on spotify which is linked via the header INSIGHT above actually has 28 songs, but i picked 10 that stand out the most for him ! and trust me, that wasn’t easy OTL. anyway, a lot of his songs have to do with how light his past was verses how heavy his present is. taeil is a very homesick and sad boy who never really realized that life alone wasn’t going to be like what he writes in his stories. he can write a fairytale on paper — but why don’t they come true in real life? GENRE: mostly folk/country. no triggers !
001. from eden   — hozier 002. almost home   — craig morgan 003. fire and rain  — birdy 004. back 2 good  — matchbox 20 005. i can’t love you back  — easton corbin 006. marry me  — thomas rhett 007. my consequence  — hey violet 008. rot — lacey sturm 009. stigma — bts ( v ) 010. long live  — taylor swift
EXPLANATION:
005. i can’t love you back  — easton corbin | lyric: i could love you with all my heart, but the hardest part is i just can't love you back.
uhhhh this is a country song and i personally feel like a lot of country music fits taeil’s aesthetic and that he would also like it ! that’s besides the point, i feel like this song is definitely a deal breaker for him. it basically talks about someone loving someone so much and doing so much for them to prove it but that person is already gone, and they’re not coming back despite it all. i think this really fits taeil for A LOT of reasons, namely how he always seems to fall in love with something or someone that he knows he will never have no matter how much effort he puts into the situation. taeil always puts his heart into things and, well, a lot of the time, that’s a big mistake.
010. long live  — taylor swift | lyric: singing long live all the mountains we moved. i had the time of my life fighting dragons with you.
i always always always always include this song on taeil’s playlists because this is his and his brother’s song for sure. they were almost inseparable and honestly still are. the song may talk about a couple, idk, but from taeil’s point of view, the song is about two best friends ( or siblings in his case ) that basically take on the world together through everything and, at the end, taylor says “promise you’ll stand by me forever but if god forbid fate should step in” that the other party will never forget her, and will tell all their kids/family/etc about the things they did when they were together. this definitely applies to taeil in a lot of ways, as he hopes that, if one day he isn’t there or his brother moves on from the beautiful friendship they have, that he will tell everyone what taeil did for him and all the conquered together throughout their life together.

So! Guess who just spent a lot of time fixing up her Utena reviews!
I removed all the broken images and even replaced some of them. I also fixed the broken Rot13 links and added a header in BOLD about how to descramble the spoilers at the top of nearly every post, added some fact corrections, and, most importantly, I cleaned up some small parts of the reviews that bothered me for being too simplistic/not gelling with my changed opinions. It was really only like two or three posts so I definitely didn’t get everything, but still.
I’ve also collected everything in a master post, including the ungarbled spoiler posts for easy access. I’ll post that shortly. First, however, I have one post I forgot to do an ungarbled spoiler version of the first time around, so I’ll be posting that, then the masterpost linking them all.
The post I changed the most was the  end of the movie post, where I added some more nuanced commentary. You can see the new text below the cut:
So, Anthy stops clinging to the dead past and she and Utena band together and DESTROY HER BROTHER AND THE OPPRESSIVE SYSTEM THAT BINDS THEM! Anthy and Utena were dead in this world, but now they’re alive in the outside one.
The world outside looks rough and twisted, untamed. It doesn’t have that system supporting it like the world of Ohtori does, and there are no rules or roads. But Utena and Anthy can build "new roads”- they can make their own path.
I should note while Utena and Anthy’s journey is definitely partly about challenging oppression and throwing off a system that subjugates them, It’s also an intimate story about growing up. Again, as children, we often cling to the rules and systems and LIES that we’re told protect us, the ones that keep up complacent and constrained. And part of growing up can be realizing we can reject those rules, we can pierce through the lies and see everything for what it is, even if it means having to fend for ourselves in the wilderness of the adult world.
A big reason the outside world is so twisted, according to Ikuhara, is because represents adulthood, and all the danger and terror and uncharted territory that comes with that. You can’t remain innocent in a world like this. He said in the commentary
The wilderness is a large, expansive place, but a complicated one. I wanted to show how they would dare to enter this world with nothing. Wearing nothing. Many ask why I made the last scene like this. As for why, I myself don't really know. But, I suppose it has to do with how I used to look at the world and society when I was a teenager. And that's reflected here. These are probably the sort of visual images I had in my teens. That is, the adult world is not pure. And anyone with a pure heart would not be able to live in an adult world. So, if that's the case, I felt that I didn't want to become an adult. But then I wondered if it was okay, taking it to that degree. Not sure. In that sense, the last scene was meant to honestly reflect the true feelings I had when I was in my teens. So, that's the kind of scene I want young teenagers to see before they head off into society. There's a part of me that still thinks that I'm living here in a desolate, adult wilderness.
Anthy and Utena had been stuck in a sort of eternal childhood/fairytale, desperately trying to maintain their “purity” and clinging to their fantasies and narrow prince/princess archetypes and limiting roles for women. They sacrificed their freedom for “innocence”, for the comfort of childhood and the comfort of being controlled. But their feigned innocence was actually willful ignorance, and  they can no longer cling to fantasies and stay stuck in the same place like the living dead. They allow themselves to face the twisted, unknown wilderness of adulthood, and they leave everything from their past behind.
They come in, completely vulnerable, wearing nothing, facing this world with a (literally) naked honesty. They won’t shield themselves from the truth anymore. They bare their whole selves. No pretenses, no shame. A pure heart can’t live in the adult world? It’s inherently a bad, corrupting place? They’ll see about that. They’d rather be their whole, free, true selves in this corrupt world than stay stuck in some nostalgic, oppressive lie for the sake of some false purity. They have to trust that they have the strength and power to take responsibility for themselves and determine the course of their own lives, to face down corruption head on and find a way though it, maybe even a way to destroy it, instead of pretending it’s not there.
So this is a movie where the love between two queer women destroys an oppressive system, where they conquer their abuser, defy the idea that they need to remain stuck in childhood to maintain their pure hearts. They face adulthood, and all its scary challenged, with honesty and open hearts and determination to create a better world, leaving the lies they were fed behind. Their love frees them, empowers them, and destroys that which holds them back. Two women kiss, and it is treated as the ultimate triumph. The signal of the start of a new life, a new world. Their happiness, their freedom, their story.
Women loving each other can save them. It can change their worlds and change THE world, it lead to the possible salvation of the world. That’s what I personally take away from this and I believe it’s a very strong message. It fills me with such  joy. It’s so rare to see a movie so completely celebrating the power and ability of queer women to thrive in their adult lives and determine their fates, that shouts they can conquer those who would hold everyone down and destroy all limiting roles and systems of subjugation. Where their love is framed as a beautiful thing that strengthens these women, as something that can cut through a corrupt world and even save it. But this movie goes all out. We can bring the world revolution.
 I love this movie.

Ikemen Sengoku - The best one of Otome game from CYBRID’s Ikemen Series
Since Ikesen English version was released on June 2017, no way the real Otome gamer’d miss it. In the other hand, the amateur me who’ve just stepped into this Otome world only for a year just knew and started playing it around the end of 2017, very late bird.
Anyhow after I’ve been playing for 2 months I found it is real good. Both artwork and story are just right to me. Plus there are many attractive things in this game. And I love it so much that can’t help but have to release my overflowing feeling by blabbing on this blog.
As I mentioned on my blog’s header, I’m not English speaker and still be a newbie blogger since this is my first English blog, so pls spare me for my weird English. Why I have to desperately wrote English blog then? The main reason is for my personal entertainment and creating a room to chat with my game’s pal who share the same interest with me.
Okay, leave that boring things and let’s me tell my though of this amazing game.
Tumblr media
Art : CG & Costumes
Ikesen’s art is gorgeous, painterly style artwork cached my eyes at first glance. Characters faces and body-build are balance and look good in every angles. In some Otoge, we’d found characters faces or organs look weird or creepy in some CG. I salute Yamashiro-sensei, an illustrator, for creating these fabulous work pieces.
Costumes designs are very creative, not be boring conservative like the other Samurais Otoge. And still remain the hints for gamer to guess who they are by using clan’s crest. Each characters have their own themes and colors which perfectly match their personalities. There are 3 types of attire per character, casual kimono, formal attire and war suit. I heard Ikesen creative team hired Thai’s creative to help them for characters’ design. Wow, they really did it awesome 😎
Tumblr media
Characters
This game is the one of CYBIRD’s Ikémen series, with a brand Ikemen, of course, all characters MUST be HOT & HANDSOME. There are 11 hotties for us to choose; 9 warlords, 1 ninja, and 1 abbot. Nine of them are Japan’s most famous Sengoku warlords who were real existed in Japanese history, excepted the part of hot and handsome. Most of them also appear as the characters in many manga, anime and games.
Isn’t it sounds challenge and fun to conquer their heart?
Tumblr media
Plot and Story
After accidentally went back to Japan’s Sengoku period in 1562 through the wormhole, MC saved Oda Nobunaga who nearly die in Honnoji Incident by chance. As the life-saver and lucky charm, MC earned the favor from him and was assigned to be a chatelaine of Azuchi castle, where MC were surrounded by those famous, hot and handsome Sengoku warlords. While struggling in this turbulent and war state period and waiting for a chance to back home, MC have to learn and does many things for the sake of survival. Even though she promised herself not to get too close to anyone, but the fate still bring her to him and fall in love.
”Back to the past” plot seems non creative, but the story lines really are very interesting, nothing more or less. MC and love interest slowly developed their feeling in reasonable and acceptable way, made me moved so much. The writer did an impressive job to compress those details and emotional things into just 13 episodes.
My favorite part, erotic scenes are not that straight but still give a sexy, mature and alluring vibe. I found myself was attracted to their different charms and wanted to know them more and more. How nice we could have THINGS with various types of guys without a REAL physical relationship, so convenient. Plus, this is the Japanese famous WARLORDS we’re talking about, not typical guys who we could found anywhere.
Tumblr media
Avatars Dressing for Fun and Points
As same as the other online Otoge, there is avatars for the player who love girly-doll-dressing in “Your Room”. The avatars here; avatar itself, attire, accessories, wallpaper and all decoration items are really awesome, very detailed and creative. We can get the regular items by buying them from shop and special limited items by joining the events which are held quite frequent.
Tumblr media
Not only your room but there is also a “Castle” where we can be with our suitor in adorable chibi form. every things are uber cute! (๑˃v<๑) Here we can get a lot of decorating items from gacha, standard items from daily free gacha and special limited items from events.
Tumblr media
Advantage Thing
The most I love, character’s HOT VOICEs!! (๑>◡<๑) Normally we can hear his greeting in different 3 lines whenever we feel like by just push a speaker icon right at “His Room”. In his room we can set any guys as wallpaper even we are playing a different guy’s route, which mean we can two timing our suitor openly. When we passed the challenges in main or event story, he’ll appear in chibi form to praise or even give some gifts or rewards to us, sounds cool, isn’t it? (╹◡╹)Not only that, they are giving out some voice clips on occasions which we can save in our game’s memory to listen anytime we want. Hearing their hot and sexy voices in cheesy lines make my imagination gone wild (*≧∀≦*)
Tumblr media
Negative Thing
The only minus point, it’s quite pricey if we compared to VOLTAGE’s which we can buy the whole main story including epilogue by the same amount, and just a half price when they hold a sale campaign. But for IkeSen, if we want to play in Premium, we have to spend around 27 USD for just 1 route!! (O_O) And if we want to play both Romantic and Dramatic route for 1 character, we need more 9 USD. Not to mention a lot of interesting and fun events which will release a ton side stories and items for our avatars. Most of them were free if we were the active players. But of course, we still have to pay for an Early Bird’s and premium epilogue stories anyway (⌒-⌒; )
Of course, this is basically a free game, if you don’t mind much about the longer and sweeter premium bonus stories, you can just go for the normal stories. But could you really just be satisfied by the normal stories? As my direct experience, it’s a real hard to resist their charms. Those hot and sexy warlords will enchant you to blindly fall for them. When you become to your sense again, both of your heart and purse were already robbed away. (´⊙ω⊙`) The most mysterious thing is you’d somehow can manage your money and continue this expensive hobby anyway.
That’s said and I still addict to this game. If you don’t want to fall hard, don’t dare to step in. I-WARNED-YOU-WITH-LOVE (^з^)-☆

CQN continue our EXCLUSIVE extracts from Alex Gordon’s book, ‘The Lisbon Lions: The 40th Anniversary’, which spotlights the men who played their way in the Hoops’ Hall of Fame following their phenomenal feat of becoming the first British club to conquer Europe.
Today, Alex places the focus on the club’s extraordinary goalkeeper Ronnie Simpson, a model professional who looked as though his days in the top flight were numbered before a surprise move to Parkhead.
RONNIE SIMPSON should have finished season 1966/67 playing for Berwick Rangers in the old Scottish Second Division where they finished 10th in a league of 20.
Instead, as the history books show, he picked up a European Cup medal, played his first game for the Scotland international side and was voted the Football Writers’ Player of the Year. Take into consideration the fact he also won medals in the league, the Scottish Cup, the League Cup and the Glasgow Cup.
Not bad for someone whose next birthday would see him turn 37.
Yet things could have turned out so differently for the Lisbon Lion, known affectionately to his team-mates as ‘Faither’ because of his advancing years. He had dropped out of the Hibs first team with Willie Wilson taking over the No.1 spot. His Easter Road career looked as good as obliterated and Berwick Rangers were searching for a new goalkeeper. They turned their attention to Simpson and they were confident of landing the experienced professional. Hibs would hardly prove difficult to deal with as far as the transfer fee was concerned.
SAFE HANDS…Ronnie Simpson shows his fabulous reflexes as he makes a flying save.
That was when fate stepped in to so rudely interrupt Berwick Rangers’ progress in their pursuit of Simpson. Celtic, too, were in the market for another keeper. John Fallon was the man in possession, but they did not have reliable cover.
The unpredictable Frank Haffey, who conceded nine goals to England at Wembley in 1961, had just been sold to Swindon Town for £8,000 in 1964. That opened the door for Simpson and he decided “it was worth a chance”.
However, he couldn’t have been best pleased when he was told, a year later in March 1965, that Jock Stein was about to take over as manager of Celtic. After hearing the news about the impending arrival of Stein, Simpson is reported to have gone straight home and informed his wife Rosemary that she should get ready to pack.
“We’re on the move again,” he was alleged to have said. It was Stein, of course, as Hibs boss, who had sold Simpson for a transfer fee described by the the-then Celtic boss Jimmy McGrory as being in the region of “sweeties”.
Most assuredly, glory, medals and international honours did not figure in the wildest dreams of Simpson at that stage of his career.
There had been talk of a fall-out between the player and the manager nearing the end of his days at Hibs. Neither Simpson nor Stein was ever eager to talk about any friction between the pair. Luckily for Celtic, if there had been any ill-feeling between them, it never surfaced in their six years together in Glasgow.
NINETY MINUTES FROM GLORY…Ronnie Simpson is flanked by Billy McNeill and Tommy Gemmell before the kick-off in Lisbon.
Naturally, their finest moment came in the Portuguese capital against Inter Milan and, quite remarkably, that historic game came almost 22 years after Simpson made his debut, at 14 years and eight months, for Queen’s Park in a Summer Cup-tie against Clyde at Hampden in June 1945.
Remember, too, this was the goalkeeper who had represented Great Britain four times as an amateur and played twice in the 1948 Olympic Games. He had also earned two English FA Cup medals in 1952 and 55 with Newcastle United. Those not-inconsiderable achievements might have been more than enough for most individuals. Simpson had also served Third Lanark in his distinguished career before eventually landing at Celtic.
Jock Stein, in fact, did keep faith with John Fallon when he took over in 1965. And it was Fallon who was in goal a month later when Celtic defeated Dunfermline 3-2 in a dramatic Scottish Cup Final with Billy McNeill claiming the winner with a typical soaring header from a Charlie Gallagher left-wing corner-kick as the game nudged towards full-time.
But a year later it was Simpson who was in charge when Celtic again made their way to Hampden for another Scottish Cup climax against Rangers.
Unfortunately, for Ronnie and his team-mates, it wasn’t to be a happy conclusion on this occasion as the Ibrox side won 1-0 in a tension-laden replay after a goalless draw in the first confrontation. Simpson, as usual, was blameless as a thumping first-time effort from the Ibrox side’s right-back Kai Johansen almost burst the net.
Better times were ahead, of course. And everyone who can remember the Lisbon encounter with the stylish Italians still talk about Simpson’s cheeky backheel to team-mate John Clark when he was out of his penalty area with Inter Milan centre-forward Renato Cappellini charging down on him.
That was typical Simpson, though. A marvellous piece of improvisation from a goalkeeper who often said: “I don’t care how I keep the ball out of the net. It can hit my elbow, my knee, my backside – just so long as it doesn’t cross the line. That’s my only concern.”
Ronnie Simpson, who sadly passed away following a heart attack on April 19 2004 at the age of 73, was a one-off. He thoroughly deserves his place in Celtic legend.
Right-back Jim Craig recalled: “Ronnie may have been the oldest guy in the team, but he was also one of the most agile. Age hadn’t robbed him of his flexibility.
“He was good fun, too. I’ll tell you this, though – he was a bit of a cheat. I well remember our team photographs back then when you had the likes of Billy McNeill, Tommy Gemmell and myself standing in the back row alongside Ronnie.
“Now Ronnie used to tell people he was around 5ft 10in or so. But when he stood alongside us – and we were all 6ft-plus – he would get up on his tip-toes to appear taller. What height was he? I never found out, but I still think he was maybe just a wee bit shorter than two inches short of 6ft!
“Mind you, it didn’t really matter because Ronnie had all the ability in the world. His experience was invaluable to Celtic. It was always kind of difficult to believe that our goalkeeper was making his debut for Queen’s Park when most of the Lisbon Lions were still in nappies!”
TOMORROW: The Spirit of 67: Another Celtic legend is in the spotlight.

Tachyon Squadron Review
I was extremely young when my family took me to see Star Wars at the drive-in, and there were a lot of details I didn’t remember until years later when I viewed the movie again on HBO–but I remembered Luke flying in his X-Wing. A year later, with slightly better cognitive functions, I was fascinated by Battlestar Galactica and the starfighter combat between the Colonial Vipers and the Cylon Raiders.
Did I outgrow my love of starfighters when I got older? Not if the hours I spent playing TIE Fighter, Freelancer, or Rogue Squadron are any indication. Even today, my favorite part of Star Wars Battlefront 2 is the starfighter missions.
Tachyon Squadron is a supplement for Fate Core that focuses on playing military science fiction campaigns that center on a starfighter squadron and the pilots of that squadron.
Sizing up the Spaceframe
This review is based both on the PDF version of the product, and the hardcover release. Tachyon Squadron is a 184-page product, with a four-page index, two-page quick reference sheet, a ship sheet, and a character sheet in the back.
The physical book is a digest-sized hardcover, similar to other Evil Hat releases. It is a full-color book, with numerous line art illustrations of pilots, starfighters, and capital ships. Formatting is similar to other Fate releases, with clear headers, call-out boxes, and very easy to digest pages of information.
Tachyon Squadron and Creating a Pilot
There is a brief five-page introduction to explain the style of science fiction that Tachyon Squadron is emulating. It’s a has a strongly military flavored sci-fi feel, and features humans skirmishing with other humans, rather than dealing with alien threats. Adversaries will include pirates and oppressive regimes, and FTL and artificial gravity technology exists without too many details. There is also a quick callout box to explain how the Fate rules are used and modified for the setting.
Creating a pilot delves into some of those ways in which the setting utilizes and modifies the Fate rules. While creating a character will look familiar to anyone that has spent some time with the Fate Core rulebook, there are a few key differences.
You don’t just need a name, you need a callsign
You don’t have a Trouble aspect, you have a decompression aspect
You get two personal stunts and a gear stunt–the gear stunt representing a special piece of equipment you have available to your character
There are example names and callsigns, as well as some archetypical skill assignment arrays. There are sidebars discussing player safety when it comes to exploring decompression aspects, as well as some guidance on how disability isn’t a limiting factor to fighter pilots in the setting.
Unlike a standard game of Fate, in Tachyon Squadron, the Trouble aspect is, instead, replaced with the decompression aspect. This aspect is split between a positive means that the pilot can decompress, and a negative means. The only way a pilot recovers stress is to decompress. If they fail their check to decompress in a positive manner, they can always blow off steam in a less productive manner, which is likely to cause problems for them, now or in the future.
Skills and Stunts
The next section of the book delves into skills available in the setting, example stunts, and new rules for gear stunts that are introduced in this book.
Skills are broken up into the following groups:
Spacefaring Skills (Gunnery, Pilot, Tactics, Technology)
Action Skills (Athletics, Fight, Notice, Shoot, Sneak)
Social Skills (Discipline, Empathy, Investigate, Provoke, Rapport)
Those categories help to summarize the expected scenes that pilot characters will play through in the game, as they fly their ship, participate in ground-based missions, and interact with civilians and military personnel between starfighter missions.
Gear Stunts introduce some new rule interactions into Fate. These stunts represent equipment that a character has available on their missions, but they can allow characters to maximize a die in certain circumstances. Maximizing a die is just taking a die from the dice, after they have been rolled, and setting it to “+.” If multiple pieces of gear would both help, you may get to maximize more than one die, but you can never have more than two maximized on one roll.
While the Gear Stunts introduce ways in which characters can maximize their dice, this is also where the concept of minimizing dice is introduced. In some disadvantageous circumstances, characters may need to set a die from the rolled dice aside and set it to a “-.” Like maximized dice, you never need to minimize more than two dice in a single roll.
Engagements
The turn order in starfighter combat is resolved in a different manner than other Fate conflicts. The next chapter in the book explains how to run engagements, and what the phases look like.
Engagements have the following parts:
Detection
Maneuver
Action
End of Round
Detection involves using the technology skill to determine if both sides know how many fighters the other side has, and where those ships are. Maneuvering involves using the tactics skill to determine what order the ships take their actions. The action phase involves performing standard Fate actions using whatever skill is appropriate to the action. The end of round phase degrading the tactics score that was used to determine ship order, as well as being the phase of the engagement where ships that declared their intent to escape leave the scene.
At a brief pass, that all can sound a lot more complicated than a standard Fate conflict, but the maneuver chart included in the book helps to illustrate how the rules work, and the individual phases are very clearly explained.
Undetected ships can’t be attacked and can attack anyone in the fight. Other ships can only attack ships with their own tactics result or lower. A ship that attempts to bug out can be targeted by anyone, but if they make it to the End of Round phase, they escape the fight unscathed. There are undetected and special spots on the maneuver chart, and the special slot goes after everyone else. This is where capital ships take their actions in a fight.
Unlike a standard Fate conflict, in the action phase, players may take actions in Step 1 or Step 2 of the round, with some special actions taking both Step 1 and Step 2 slots. Some actions allow a pilot to reroll their tactics check to move up (or down) the chart, while others may allow a pilot to harass an opposing pilot to change their score and position on the chart. Characters can also do things like making emergency repairs or recovering ejected pilots.
Fighters have specific fighter sheets that show what happens when a given component takes damage. Enemy fighters might use full ship sheets, they may use simple damage rules, or they may be organized as flights (several fighters using simple rules, adding shifts to damage as they act as a unit), or as swarms.
Swarms are one of my favorite rules for adding a ton of fighters to a battle. They act as free invokes for other ships, and the aspect representing the swarm can be removed depending on the actions taken by the PCs on their turn. Nobody in a swarm is wearing a Corellian Bloodstripe.
The Galaxy and Combat Pilots at War
The next two sections detail what the galaxy looks like and what the pilots of Tachyon Squadron do on a day to day basis. There are various example planets and space stations, as well as explanations of the daily duty and routine of fighter pilots, and what various mission profiles look like.
In short, the galaxy was split between two big human empires, who were at war. The war came to an end, but a third group split from one of those empires and is now catching all kinds of heat from the less friendly of the two superpowers. Because the Draconis System is a new player in the galaxy, the fighter pilots of Tachyon Squadron are technically volunteer civilian contractors, waiting for the full-fledged Draconis military to get up and running.
This sets up the player characters as the underdogs in most fights, trying to cause enough hassle to their better funded and backed enemies to get them to back off, rather than trying to conquer or overthrow any empire on their own.
GMing Tachyon Squadron
The next section in the book starts off by presenting consistent, current, impending, and future issues for a typical Tachyon Squadron campaign. Consistent issues are thematically appropriate story beats for the whole campaign, current issues are the “starting” problems that the group will likely be taking on, impending issues are those that are ready to move into the forefront in the near future, and future issues are emerging long-term issues that surface once the PCs have had a chance to play with the setting for a while.
The chapter then moves into advice on how to structure engagements, with some example opposition for different types of missions of varying difficulty. There is advice on how to handle concessions in starship combat, as well as how to transition missions into “out of cockpit” encounters.
The chapter wraps up with examples of how to structure a campaign, with advice on how to determine the opposition’s objectives, and how many times the PCs can stymie them before they change tactics, and eventually start to turn the tide.
I’ve always been a big fan of games clearly presenting how they are intended to be played, and this chapter has a very clear set of examples not just for individual missions, but for how the beginning, middle, and end of a campaign should look.
Ships to Fly and People to Meet and Example Player Characters
The next two chapters have statistics for spaceships, modular equipment, and characters that can be found in the setting. The example player characters can serve as examples, pre-generated characters, or NPCs if the players decide to make their own characters.
There are statistics for capital ships and fighters, and the opposition fighters have separate stat blocks for “regular” opposition and aces. The ships have aspects, skill ranks, and stunts, and the more detailed ships have lists of damaged components that can be used in a similar manner to minor consequences, with each damaged component having a special narrative effect, or causing certain rolls to be minimized.
NPCs and sample player characters are very diverse, including characters with various gender identities, sexualities, physical abilities. While I always appreciate an RPG setting that has that degree of diversity, it’s great to see actual examples of that diversity, rather than just seeing it stated in the higher-level descriptions of the setting. The commanding officers, other pilots, and civilian contacts your character runs into will reinforce that element of the setting.
The Pirates of Kepler Valley and Defense of Arcosolari Kalamos
The next two sections of the book contain sample campaign arcs for the game. One campaign focuses on defending outposts and caravans from pirates while also fighting the Dominion, and the other revolves around a space station hub where the PCs may have to root out spies and Dominion sympathizers as well as flying starship missions.
To reinforce the idea that Tachyon Squadron doesn’t have unlimited resources and is fighting against a bigger, better-supplied force, the campaign setup section lays out what equipment the PCs can expect to have available to them when their own gear conks out, or when they need specialized tech for missions. There are also outlines of specific scenes that may come at pivotal moments in the campaign, and new NPCs and locations.
If you have ever thrilled at starships shooting lasers at one another while dodging fire from capital ships, the text is going to hold your interest.

Inspirations and Influences
Inspirations and influences is a section of the book where various media that inspired the game can be found. One thing that interests me is that, the longer the RPG industry is around, the more diverse the inspirations become. In this instance, I’m not just referring to a broad range within certain media, but that influences now include tabletop games (including older RPGs) and video games.
Target Lock
Tachyon Squadron does a remarkable job of explaining exactly what it is trying to do and showing you how to achieve that goal using the rules and structure provided. Minimizing and maximizing dice are tools that may prove useful for modeling other thematic elements in future Fate games. The structure of starfighter engagement creates a procedure that feels like dogfighting without needing to track exact positioning, distance, and orientation. The diverse range of characters reinforces a setting element with substantive content.
Pull Up
One of the book’s strengths could also be a weakness–the procedure for engagements may be just a little bit too structured depending on the flavor of Fate you prefer. While it’s not hard to adapt, Tachyon Squadron defaults to gritty “everybody’s human” military science fiction, so if your love of starfighter combat involves lots of crazy ship types, alien co-pilots, and maybe space wizards, you may need to pull from other Fate sources to fill out your preferences.
Recommended–If the product fits in your broad area of gaming interests, you are likely to be happy with this purchase.
This product is a great example of using existing rules to reinforce the tropes of a genre. If you have ever thrilled at starships shooting lasers at one another while dodging fire from capital ships, the text is going to hold your interest. Even outside of Fate, the structure for creating tactical dogfights without using exact positioning is something you may want to check out.
Have you ever adapted an RPG to model your favorite starfighter video games? Do you have a preference on how to model tactical maneuvering between ships in a sci-fi game? How gritty do you like your military sci-fi? Let us know in the comments below. We’d love to hear from you!
