So yesterday I was in a bit of a funk, both due to me having bombed my math exam (and probably all my others), and because I wanted to draw but couldn’t figure out what to draw, and anything I was making didn’t look very good. Then I decided, “hey, I have Cookie Run ocs, why not just make a page with them?” And so I did

I was planning on having more sketches, but the drawings were big on my canvas and I couldn’t fit more (I like to keep them roughly the same size

First I wanted to draw Cabbage Rose again, because he’s honestly one of my favorite AI generated cookies, and this time I gave him a redesign, now that I wasn’t constrained by the art generator. Mainly I changed his hair and gave his sword more stuff so that it looked like a regular sword, particularly with the leaves on the end (though to be honest I feel like they ended up looking more like wings). The cape design was giving me difficulty, I probably need to draw it without it fluttering in the wind so I can get a better grasp of it

Also can I just say, I hate the fact that there are colors of his that are close enough that having them both feels unnecessary, but different enough that I can’t change it to one or the other because it looks wrong. I try to have colors repeat themselves to minimize the number of colors and keep it simple, but I can’t do that here and it annoys me

Anyways next up we have the Cacao siblings (and technically the only canon character in this page). I was originally gonna draw Ruby with a more dynamic pose, with her and her brother fighting off beasts, but then I decided instead to have her basically teaching Dark Cacao about how to use a sword, which is what she’s doing here. They’re supposed to be still at the tribe with some swords they had around

I was considering giving her a different weapon to differentiate herself from her brother, so that they don’t seem like just copies, but then I figured that if anyone were to teach Dark Cacao how to use a sword, it would make logical sense for it to be his older sister, especially when they’re living on their own

Alright, now let’s move onto the final one, with Blueberry Ice Cream Cookie and Strawberry Jam Cookie (note, I still want to change that name, but I haven’t figured out to what. They’re a Legendary grade, and most Legendaries tend to have names that are either what they are (aka Wind Archer, Fire Spirit, Millennial Tree) or like, what their role is/what they represent (again Wind Archer, Timekeeper, Moonlight?). Technically Strawberry Jam is made of strawberry jam, but that’s still in keeping with normal Cookies, which they aren’t. If anyone has suggestions feel free)

The only major thing I changed here was Blueberry Ice Cream’s sword, the Blueberry Buster Sword. Originally it looked more like the Strawberry Jam Sword, but I wanted to change it because they later consider it be their greatest failure and despise it. So why would they make their perfect creation, the Strawberry Jam Sword, look just like it? I mean it’s still a sword, because that’s what they use, but they wouldn’t make them look so similar. So with this I ended up basing it more on the Final Fantasy Buster Sword, as well as just pictures of broadswords/greatswords, since that’s what the Buster Sword is based on. I was considering moving the gem onto the blade like the FF7 one, but I thought that looked too similar

On one hand, I feel like redesigning Strawberry Jam Cookie, since when I see the Sovereign, I don’t really feel like these two are the same person. But then again, the Sovereign has Dark Choco’s body, so they wouldn’t really look/feel the same, would they?

I was also STRUGGLING with Strawberry Jam’s posing, specifically with the sword. I wanted them to be swinging it high up, but I couldn’t find a good pose to reference that had that, so I had to try and improvise myself. Unfortunately, I didn’t really have a big stick, other than my mop. And a mop isn’t exactly the same as a sword. Not to mention I kept holding like a flag because habit. I feel like it looks like they’re just holding it close to their face, when they’re supposed to be swinging it. Maybe eventually once I figure it out I’ll go back and change it

It was fun drawing them side by side though, since I can definitely see similarities and differences between them, so that you wouldn’t immediately think they’re related, but you can still pick up on similar elements

Another thing, this pose is sort of what I imagine a banner with them would look like. Well I mean not entirely, I’d personally have Strawberry Jam taking up more horizontal space, but something like this. I have this idea in my head of these two being part of like, a Halloween update, and when you see the two on the banner initially, you might think that these two are fighting each other, or Blueberry Ice Cream is having to defend against them in some way. You might also notice that’s the Strawberry Jam Sword and assume this is lore about the original wielder of the SJS and perhaps someone they fought, possibly the one who sealed them in the sword. And once you start their story, things seem to be fine, it’s just introducing our protagonist, Blueberry Ice Cream. But then as the story progresses, you eventually realize that there’s definitely some shady connection between the two, and eventually some to the realization that they are in fact the same person, just at different points in their life, and you watch Blueberry Ice Cream turn into this horrible monster

I say Halloween specifically because it’s supposed to be like a scary story about a good person’s corruption into pure evil, and the fact that it doesn’t end on a good note. Also another way the story might be framed is as a scary story being told to younger Cookies, though it is a true story.

I also imagine that the ending would involve Dark Choco when he was younger. If it’s the storytelling version, at the end of the tale, he asks if this was true, and the narrator’s reply implies to him that it’s not that reliable, and more a story to scare children (even though again the story presented is supposed to be true), so Dark Choco chooses to ignore its warnings and keep seeking the sword out. If the story is a series of flashbacks, then the final cutscene is Strawberry Jam Cookie, in the void of their sword within Dragon’s Valley, having lost all semblance of who they once were, and likely their own humanity (or the Cookie equivalent of that I guess). Then, it hears a voice, and we see a silhouette of young Dark Choco, exclaiming that he finally found the legendary sword, and Strawberry Jam Cookie says something along the lines of (but not this at all) “someone new…he will do nicely…”. We all know what happens from there, but the last thing we see are Strawberry Jam Cookie’s words, so we don’t see the corruption

But yeah, it was fun doing these. To be honest, now I just want to draw more of them

And just like that my 20s are over. Lol. It was a pretty nice & chill 30th birthday.

I bought myself a desk organizer set off Amazon as a birthday gift. It’s rose gold, and it has a drawer, and it came w/ a phone stand, a pen, a pen cup, a ruler, paper clips, clamps, tacks, a calculator, and a stapler w/ the staples. Lol. I now have a pretty stapler and I want to staple things, but I haven’t nothing to staple, lol.

And my mom got me a thing of stickers that are very cute. 24 sheets, 12 sets, themed around each month of the year. I love stickers! Lol.

And I’m counting it as a birthday gift (and Ally herself said I can!) that I also got approved & received the ARC for Ally Carter’s new book, The Most Wonderful Crime of The Year! I can’t wait to read it! 🥳📚📖🥳

I made sausage & cabbage and a baked Mac N Cheese for dinner b/c it’s one of my favorite meals. And we had a cookies & cream ice cream cake for dessert.

Overall a very chill birthday. But nice. ☺️

It’s that Snowjanus story that surprisingly pulled all of my heartstrings in one sitting. It includes a lot of kissing and some misunderstandings here and there. However, it gave us delulu folks the happy ending that we secretly want from our two walking disasters.😘

It’s a greatly written ongoing Snowjanus story that features two awkward teenagers who were arranged to be married by a scheming Strabo Plinth because of political reasons. To be fair, Grandma’am was the one who agreed to the match. So enjoy~.😏

3. Hear it call to me, constantly by ColorMeHappy

It’s a great Snowjanus story within an ongoing series that features a lot of crying from Sejanus and a world changing breakdown from Coryo. 10/10. Would read again.

4. Hate is a strong word by KatcadeCascade

This is one of my personal favorite Snowjanus oneshots ever. That’s it. That’s all I can say. So just start reading this masterpiece while I’ll start eating some Gouda cheese.

5. To Where She Flew by madzdolin

It’s a greatly written ongoing SnowBaird story that explores a lot of different “What Ifs” to make a compelling narrative. Also, we got your usual amnesia trope, redemption arcs, well written side characters, and Capitol conspiracies.

This is the SnowBaird story where Coryo’s parents are still alive and kicking along with their irreversible war traumas. Also, our poor cabbage boy’s little sister is there too.

7. A Bird in the Hand by horrormoviebarbie

This is that ongoing SnowBaird story where crazy Coryo is trying his best to fight off his destined redemption arc until he gives up and joins the good side unwillingly.😭🤣

8. Nothing Burns Like The Snow by evilweasel

This ongoing SnowBaird story features our favorite Crazy Peepaw Snow living his best life with Sweet Meemaw Baird. Meanwhile, Katniss and fam are starving and the only thing she wants in order for Prim to survive is by adopting the old crazy couple whether they like it or not. And Crazy Peepaw Plinth is also alive, I guess?

9. i deserve it, don’t i by ColorMeHappy

This greatly written Snowjanus oneshot is really sweet and is filled with sweets. I mean, it literally features a starving Coryo wanting to eat chocolates and cookies. So Sejanus bakes and provides for his poor cabbage boy.

10. Cyanide Dipped Roses by Angelsbite_demonkiss

It’s that ongoing Snowjanus Omegaverse that features a desperate Coryo who was forced to change his dreams and future plans because of his omega status. And because freaking Dean Highbottom bent the rules again out of spite. So the only way to secure the House of Snow’s future is to marry a rich man who is willing to provide everything for our poor cabbage boy. #SugarBabyCoryoSnowisonthemove

Snow lands on top and ALL THAT. He knew he should be elated at this turn of events and jumping up and down inside while p r e s e n t i n g a modest, pleased front. But what he really felt was jEaLoUs.

And here he was in his uniform, clutching a rose like some lovestruck schoolboy, hoping she would — what? Like him? Trust him? Not kill him on sight?

So now that loudmouth Arachne was a defender of a righteous and just land. Yes, she laid down her life taunting her tribute with a sandwich, thought Coriolanus. Maybe her gravestone could read, “Casualty of cheap laughs.”

Coriolanus did not want to spend the next twenty years listening to them *mockingjays* serenade the local executions.

What was he doing but dressing her up to be a pretty corpse? Perhaps she could strangle someone with the scarf, or stab them with the pin?

The LAST TIME Sejanus had lost his appetite, he’d lost his sanity as well.

Who were all these PeOpLe hanging around on a weekday at the zoo? Didn’t they have jobs? Shouldn’t the children be in chool? No wonder the country was such a mess.

What an ugly place, he thought dully as the train chugged its way through District 9. It didn’t look fit for human habitation.

Coriolanus gave the camera a thumbs-up when they cut for his reaction. He could not believe THIS was his life.

How much bread had they wasted with this nonsense? Oh, no, he starved to death! Somebody get the bread!

Why would evil incarnate help his girlfriend?

In rhetoric class, she’d once attributed his inability to decipher the deeper meaning of a poem to the fact that he was too self-absorbed. The irony, coming from Livia, of all people! But actions spoke louder than words. Coriolanus to the rescue, Livia to the nearest exit.

“Of course I liked it, but I’m more open-minded than most" (hahahaha)

Then came confusion. If she had saved his life, he owed her, what? A sandwich and two cookies? That was how he was repaying her. For his life. Which apparently he held quite cheaply.

Oh, a ghost story. Ugh. Boo. So ridiculous.

Ma? Was Coriolanus’s place about to be uSuRpEd by someone who referred to his mother as “Ma”? The cabbage and posca threatened to make a reappearance.

“That was some good-bye.” Coriolanus just shrugged. “What can I say? I’m irresistible.”

Before Yotam Ottolenghi had British Jewry in a sumac-scented chokehold, there was Evelyn Rose. With a weekly column in the Jewish Chronicle (the U.K.’s leading Jewish newspaper) for over 40 years and 14 cookbooks, she was the face and soul of the Anglo Jewish kitchen. 

From the 1960s to 2000s, rare was a Shabbat or holiday meal where at least one of Rose’s recipes didn’t feature. In fact, many of my family’s “signature” dishes (my mother’s stuffed cabbage, my grandmother’s lemon drizzle cake) are actually Rose’s, with a couple of small tweaks. Receiving Rose’s tome, “The Complete International Jewish Cookbook” (1976), when leaving home or getting married remains a rite of passage for British Jews. Mine is stained and annotated, just as my aunt, who gave it to me, intended. “Use and enjoy,” she wrote on the inside cover. “I expect to see it, in years to come, scribbled in, spattered and sticky!”

How Rose shaped the culinary habits of British Jews and beyond is a tale of perseverance, passion and a little bit of chutzpah. 

Born in 1925 in Manchester, U.K., Rose lived there all her life except for a four-year stint in the U.S., where she was evacuated during World War II. A home economics course at her Seattle high school sparked a passion for cooking, and she studied cooking demonstration techniques at the Manchester College of Housecraft on her return to the U.K. 

In the 1950s, Rose pitched a Jewish cookery course to BBC, the largest broadcasting corporation in the world, opening the program with a recipe for cheese blintzes. She went on to become the resident cook at Granada Television and cookery editor of Family Doctor Magazine, among other accolades. 

Rose began writing for the Jewish Chronicle in the late ‘50s. At the time, Florence Greenberg was well into her fourth decade of writing the weekly cookery column that Rose would take over a couple of years later. Greenberg was influential in her own right: She’d launched the column and was the second British writer to author a Jewish cookbook. And while Rose had already set herself apart from Greenberg by proving there was an appetite for Jewish food in the U.K. outside of Jewish media, this achievement alone was not enough.

To appeal to Jewish readers, Rose branded herself as a contemporary, cosmopolitan Jewish cook. She emphasized healthy eating and portion control, with lighter takes on traditional Ashkenazi dishes, and expanded the boundaries of Jewish food by incorporating dishes from the Diaspora. In the introduction of the second edition of “The Complete International Jewish Cookbook” renamed “The New Complete International Jewish Cookbook” (1992), she writes:

“Whereas the first edition of this book was heavily weighted towards the Ashkenazi kitchen, I have since read widely, consulted, eaten, cooked and now include many dishes from the Sephardi cuisine in all its exciting manifestations. I hope this will give a more balanced picture of Jewish cuisine worldwide.” 

From recipes for baba ganoush to ma’amoul cookies to layered kibbeh,Rose was remarkably ahead of the times in her definition of Jewish food and her willingness to play with classic fare. (See: Gefilte Fish Provencal, where classic gefilte fish patties are poached in a tomato sauce with thinly sliced bell peppers and Herbs de Provence.) 

Few have made the connection between Rose and Ottolenghi, an Israeli chef who’s established a food empire in the U.K. (and beyond) in the last 20 years, including uber-successful restaurants and cookbooks. Deemed “the Ottolenghi Effect,” he’s transformed the way Britain cooks by championing vegetables and Middle Eastern ingredients. Ottolenghi’s popularity among Anglo Jews today suggests he is Rose’s natural successor, but one only has to flick through “The New Complete International Jewish Cookbook” to see that she introduced her readers to many of the dishes he would become synonymous with.

Rose was able to challenge her readers with unfamiliar recipes and ingredients because they trusted her. She weaved straightforward, quick recipes among lesser-known, modern and elaborate dishes. Most importantly, her recipes were rigorously tested and, I can confirm, stand the test of time.

Rose passed away in 2003 at age 77, but the U.K., who has always loved its culinary leading ladies, will be forever changed by her. “Evelyn has become,” wrote Mandy Ross for the Guardian, “a collective Jewish mother to Jewish mothers everywhere. She is our modern matriarch.”

A friend of mine at work told me she loved reading my stories. I will periodically put a few anecdotes on Facebook and this is what she was talking about. So as an end of the year gift I am putting together a lot of my essays As I did, it inspired me to write something new.

This was on my mind as I go to visit my Uncle Tony this weekend.

My father and uncle had a rift that never healed,

Before I tell the story, ut first I must describe to you their mother's home,

It was built in the 1920s by my grandfatger, the furniture was last updated bought 1950s on and was never changed. There were bedrooms with two beds each in them and then a master bedroom the kitchen, a dining room, a large living room and the most beautiful yet compact bathroom I have ever seen. There was both a back porch and then a small patio type wallpaper was of Fantastical things l with gazebo like overhead beams for hanging plants that look over a garden . There was also true incredibly large storage units all the property including a garage and also a seller . The house itself was up on a hill just High Enough that you could see most of the neighborhood and if you looked to the east you could see the highway that ran all the way through town . And my teenage years , in the summer, I was tasked with maintaining the enormous yard . In those days there were more trees that I can count, bushes, and grapevines. Many nights were spent watching the lights of the Town link on while you two played on my boombox sitting on the concrete patio ..

The walls of the room were covered in the most fantastic wallpaper. I had never seen designs like these before or since : Japanese sailing ships, gold on a background of gray. Huge Golden Rose blossoms on a brown background, & other designs I cannot remember.

Both curtains and lamp shades were of heavy fabric and ringed with tassels, It gave the living room a dark, exotic, otherworldly feel and an aura like stepping back in time to a distant foreign land.

I can't recall the flooring type but it was not carpeted the surface was shiny and made of whatever plastic material, but just like the walls, the patterns were singularly artistic, flat, smooth and colorful. My earliest memories are of sitting on that floor as a toddler, playing with felt covered wind up mice my grandfather kept.

The pantry was always full and while my Maw Maw was a wizard at Lebanese cooking, every cracker cookie chip and candy in her house tasted like it was decades old. The tastes of my memories there are of taboule, cabbage rolls, spaghetti with slices of rost beef instead of meatball, and conversely, the cloying taste of staleness.

In almost ever room, above almost every door, was some type of cross and three quarters of the walls displayed the most horrifyingly realistic images of Christ suffering. I will never forget them because they were the illustrations for my first lesson in shame and embarrassment.

When I was around 7 or so, my rich, teenage cousins from El Paso came to visit. I was the poor, half-breed relation and I guess they just wanted to mess with me.

“Hey do you know who that is?”, they asked, pointing to one of the depictions of our Lord and Savior.

I had no freaking idea.

Because of his Catholic upbringing, my dad despised religion, religion in any form, but most is specially Catholicism.

My mother, while a churchgoer on and off for most of her life, thought that Catholics were snobby and stuck up. Looking back, my father's family was probably the only example she had to go on, so of course she thought that.

When I said I didn't know as they pointed to one of the many Christs on the wall, they howled

“YOU DON’T KNOW JESUS?!”, and then pointed to every single Jesus plaque and picture

“HIM!? You don't know HIM!?”

I remember saying “...Well…. he looks like he's in a lot of pain ….”

I remember this was met with laughter.

It's pretty funny because looking back, I can't remember one single thing they told me about Jesus. However, I will never ever forget the shame I felt. I was obviously the only person on Earth whose parents didn't love her enough to tell her about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What the hell was wrong with me ?!

That was a pretty heavy thought for a 7-year-old.

My father had two brothers, Tony and Johnny. Both of them were younger and Johnny was born so late and Maw Maw's life that he was stuck with the mentality of a 5-year-old. This combined with the fact that he towered over me, caused me enough fear as a child that I avoided him when possible.

I don't know what kind of relationship my dad and Uncle Tony had as children. All I know is what my father told me in what I was able to observe on my own. My father and Tony were both expected to help out and take over with the clothing store that my grandfather built by hand. He literally went from being a door to door salesman to building his own store.

Whether my dad had any ambition on his own I will never know because he was the dutiful son who toiled loyally with his father. Uncle Tony however, was not so inclined. He wanted to work at electronics. My father said this was fine, Tony could go off to school, get a degree, in return and make his own TV repair shop in town. That way he would be close enough in case his father needed him. And possibly he could still help out his father when necessary.

Again, I will never know if my father wanted to go off to college but Uncle Tony was the son that got to. But once he got his degree he did not return. He took a job in El Paso for Texas Instruments building calculators and he never looked back.

He never returned to help my grandfather nor my father even when my grandfather passed away. After that things between Tony and my dad became very strained. If Tony tried to contact Dad by phone he was told my dad was busy or not there at all. If he came to visit in one of his fancy new cars throwing his money around, my dad simply disappeared, saying he was running errands and would not return until my uncle left.

This left me to stand in for my dad, and my uncle insisted on taking me out to dinner. Of course my dad's Pride would cause him to give me money and insist that I pay for the meal.

Yes, as an awkward adolescent, undiagnosed autistic child I was expected to stand up and insist on paying for everything. That absolutely never happened because I was terrified. So of course I allowed my uncle to pay, I went back and assured my father that I had paid for it and pocketed whatever money he gave me because I could not think of any other way out of it.

Several years later Uncle Tony decided that it would be best to move Maq Maw and Johnny to El Paso to live with him.

I'm not sure what he told my father but I could guess it was along the lines of “I'm richer and I can take better care of her than you.”

I honestly do not know how old she was at the time. She had always been old as long as I can remember, a small plump woman in long dresses and aprons who spoke no English, only Arabic and Spanish.

She had lived in the same house, had the same friends, gone to the same church, in the same neighborhood, her entire life. I doubt she was in any shape to even go to El Paso much less be moved there. No matter how much my dad protested Tony insisted and so that was what happened.

Less than a year after the move, she died. Being left to his own devices, Johnny drank himself to death a few years later.

That was the last straw: dad never forgave him and rightfully so. Dad still refused his calls, and if Tony tried to contact him by mail, dad instructed me to write: Return to Sender– addressee deceased on the envelope.

They did not speak again until Dad was on his Deathbed.

Again not too sure of the name, since cabbages aren’t really part of the design at all, but it’s just the name of the rose, so eh

I quite enjoyed this one, though I do also kind of wish there were more lighter colors too

I actually have a bit in terms of this character’s whole deal as well. So Cabbage Rose is young (probably no older than 15) and quite small, and has a meek sounding voice that never goes much higher than a whisper. If you were to meet Cabbage Rose normally, he’d seem rather fragile and a bit of a pushover. However, despite his meek demeanor he is incredibly powerful, able to carry his heavy sword and easily cut down large enemies. He’s used to people looking down on him and underestimating his abilities, but at the same time he’s aware enough that he understands why. Also, he’s missing his left arm, as he lost it in a battle. I imagine he comes from a noble house of roses, but as of currently he’s more a wandering warrior

I love both! cooking is nice to just wing it but baking definitely feeds the part of my brain that likes structure. I bake a lot of cookies and cakes and breads (pastry needs some work….) and I try to cook a little bit of everything! I recently made some stuffed cabbages and pierogis that were super tasty :)

how do you feel about perfume or cologne? do you personally wear it or do you prefer not to?

I like most scents, I just don’t like to feel overwhelmed by them. A little goes a long way. I wear some perfume when I actually go out, either rose or a patchouli orange scent that I like a lot.
