has the worst "hear me out" takes you'll ever hear. like seriously. she can very much point to a yield sign and say "would" to everyone's dismay.

knows every line in moulin rouge as she is OBSESSED with the film. she and laurance preform the elephant medley as dramaticly as possible whenever they watch it for movie night.

obsessed with pre-endgame marvel movies.

ao3 writer! she writes fics for the nichest of fandoms, so she doesn't get that many reads.

one of the few reliable booktok users you can TRUST will give you a good recommendation to read!

garroth:

obsessed with the movie megamind. like seriously. will talk to you for hours on and WILL defend the "sequel movie" and show because, in fact, they are NOT that bad.

can infodump about a topic he's interested in for hours on end.

actually really smart and kind, but ever since he found out he made zane insecure he tries to tone it down. he used to show off a lot but wants to make sure his brother shines as well.

carries stress balls on him so he doesn't use his strength unnecessarily.

always organizes group movie nights with all his friends.

laurance:

loves to listen to and read AITA (am i the asshole?) reddit posts when bored.

an amazing listener, will listen to someone for hours on end and provide insight when needed (perfect for having a conversation with garroth).

loves gossiping. he has really good hearing so he tends to hear others share secrets nearby. he's like the wine aunt you just KNOW has the most interesting stories to tell.

likes to go on vacations a lot, explaining why he is absent sometimes during big group events.

he sometimes returns home to his family farm to take care of it when his parents are out of town.

he often voluntarily babysits caleb to impress aphmau and garroth with his caretaker skills (he's a showoff).

katelyn:

she loves the show big time rush and watches it in her freetime.

OBSESSED with musical theatre and visits broadway shows often. if the friends she brought along even DARE to suggest skipping the stagedoor? they receive a glare that could kill thousands.

adores singing and often sings in her room when the others aren't home.

continues to play volleyball with her friends after a long day of work (she's a freelance writer).

her music taste can range from alternative music like waterparks to kpop groups like red velvet!

KC:

works at a pet shelter and takes care of the dogs and cats left behind. he adopts any that have been there for years, thus making his house full of many different pets.

the designated driver for whenever they go out to clubs. he doesn't like to drink so he usually takes everyone home by the end of the night.

travis (the actual headcanons):

actually respects others and doesn't harass them like he did early on (that was a weird trope and i HATED it). he's just a flirt and if someone he flirts with flirts back he gets all flustered.

the group gamer. spends hours grinding on all sorts of games just to brag about it on his steam profile. specifically a fan of the spider-man games on playstation.

loves to cosplay! he, aphmau, and nana go to lots of conventions together in group cosplay. their last one was the powerpuff girls! they dragged garroth along and made him mojo jojo.

can recite everything and anything about the ninjago lore. this man is obsessed with any lego product or franchise and has many sets built in his room.

practices talking to himself in the mirror every morning to give him confidence. he has very low self esteem.

Okay so last year I started compiling my magpie tarot deck. These decks are an amalgam of several different decks, tailored to the owner's likes. I decided to go a step further than the norm and wanted to make a deck where no two cards are from the same deck. So that would be 78 different decks.

I'm not done with mine yet, so I've filled in the gaps with cards from full decks I own. I also have a stack of alternate cards that I swap in and out when I feel like it, which I'll probably show off in another post because this one is already gonna be very long.

After looking through the deck I think I like this spread for a widomauk reading--or at least, Caleb's feelings toward Molly.

For the past:

"Traveler, The Card of the Journey: The open road. An unexpected encounter. A stranger."

The rest of the Mighty Nein crashing into Caleb's life, coaxing him from his self-imposed isolation, the despondence of losing years to festering guilt and grief. A man who had walked the world alone for far too long before finally finding solace in Nott--before the two became seven and inevitably nine. Touch-starved, struggling to bring himself to trust and open up, his walls slowly crumbling with every fleeting touch of intimacy. And among this strange new curious family, there is one who is perhaps the most eccentric and striking of them all. A colorful tiefling reading fortunes at the circus, bright and loud and an absolute peacock. Strange, mercurial, sometimes frustrating--but with a certain charm to him. Caleb doesn't quite know how to react at first, when Mollymauk drops some of his performance and we see a distinctly softer side; a fierce protectiveness and sincere concern, even as Caleb tries to push him and the rest of the Nein away. “Caleb. Come on. There’s time for that later, remember? You all right there? You all right?...You did good. Come on. Let’s go get some sunlight...” "Mr. Caleb. There's only so many burdens that we're expected to bear, before we're asking for failure." For all their mirrored pasts, the chosen names and missing memories and days of silence and clawing Emptiness, the threadbare longing for a second chance--it seems they couldn't be more different. Mollymauk revels in adventure, risks, the rush of adrenaline and danger; chases after every joy and pleasure his carefree heart desires. The exuberance and foolishness of a soul so fledgling new, gazing at the whole world in wide-eyed wonder. Mysterious, intriguing, devilishly charming. A walking medley of contradictions, a puzzle that just baffles Caleb and leaves his head spinning. And even when Caleb is wracked by fear, shaken and desperate and looking for an escape--even as he tries to rationalize running away, tells himself there's no reason to stay, he still can't bring himself to abandon this little family and leave them all behind. Though he can't quite figure out why. "Look at this one. He's like a walking rainbow, what is this? Why are you with him? It makes no sense. He's a circus performer, he's not going to help you." Just a curious stranger, a traveler, a person Caleb only met by chance and has "no reason" to stay with. Yet he's drawn to this peacock of vibrant color all the same, this tiefling who clawed his way out of an Empty grave and filled his life with so much joy. A fateful meeting that brings a spark of light to Caleb's life, a star falling far too fast and shining twice as bright. "Shine bright, Circus Man."

For the present:

"Love, The Card of the Orphan: It binds us, it frees us. What else needs be said?"

It isn't until Caleb loses someone else in his life that he realizes just how badly he needs the Nein--how terribly he wants to be with them. He's found a new family, and he'll risk everything to protect them, no matter the price. Caleb is anchored by the Nein, inevitably bound to them, all their lives inexoribly intertwined. When he loses all sense of direction, just looking for a reason to keep moving forward, it's Mollymauk he turns to. "I know that we are supposed to go where Molly is. Otherwise, we would not have seen the things that we've seen. We wouldn't be the Mighty Nein." Love drives Caleb to follow Mollymauk into the fathomless depths of the Astral Sea, to keep reaching for his wayward soul even after death. And when he calls out for Mollymauk and that shard of his soul still aches and tries to reach back, we see love is both what tethers Molly to this world and frees him from Lucien's control.

For the future:

"Dawn, The Card of the Matron: There's always hope. And the darkness leads to light. New beginnings."

"Please don't give up, you can find your own life again--there will be time for that later." Caleb's love is an offer of sanctuary and salvation, to take someone by the hand and give them the reprieve of a second chance. He and Caleb both promised each other they'd have more time--later, someday, there will be time for everything they need to say. And now that's what they have, what Caleb's ritual gave to Mollymauk. More time together. I especially adore Molly's line that darkness leads to light. Not just because it's a reflection of finally being free from Lucien, being given another chance. But it's also very fitting for the grief and anguish the Nein feel after that Natural 1, when it seems as though their friend's soul was truly gone after everything. Caleb was perhaps pushing hardest for Molly's resurrection--believing in the inevitability of it. Leaving a letter in Molly's pocket, digging up the grave with his bare hands because, "This could be a reunion." He fights with everything he has for the Nein, for Mollymauk, for the chance they could all be together again. It says so much, that the only time Essek has ever truly seen Caleb look so crushed, ready to finally give up--it isn't until he believes Mollymauk is lost. That his magic and his ritual and their pleas weren't enough. "Caleb Widogast, have you ever accepted defeat?" "Maybe today. For the first time." That's the moment he stops desperately holding onto hope, for the very first time. When Molly was still lifeless, and all he could do was return a kiss and say goodbye. But then, these are Mollymauk's cards, and we know from both Molly and Lucien that he stacks the deck. The other side of death is, "There's always hope." It's still ultimately Caleb's spell, his very first resurrection ritual, that lights that first spark of life in Mollymauk--guided by the Wildmother's hand. "You open your eyes for the first time...in a long time..." The first rays of dawn after so much loss and darkness, Mollymauk's reborn soul waking amidst blooming flowers and verdant greenery, this little patch of life in the remains of so much death and decay. Embraced by all his loved ones. Perhaps it's as much a resurrection as a reincarnation or Conescution. But I believe what matters most is that he saw Yasha first and still knew in his bones that she was Love. Just as he knows Caleb is his Magician, and he is his Circus Man. A new beginning for the same soul that was so deeply loved.

Caleb: He does not eat anymore, but before, he really enjoyed just simple, buttermilk pancakes

Belladonna: She really likes a fried egg on toast with sausage and roasted tomatoes

Ellingwood: She also does not eat, and I'm deciding she's vegetarian, so their ideal breakfast would probably be some sort of sweet fruit medley

Desmond: He really likes chicken and waffles with a side of cheesy scrambled eggs

The Circus Master: Yeah she doesn't eat Food Food, she literally feeds of those trapped in her circus, their fear and pain until they grow desensitized to the horrors she forces them to commit, then they join the faceless crowd

Whitebored Band habang nagtatanghal sa SIRENA﹕Variety Show. (Kuha ni Job Balanon.) Nagtanghal sina Lucas Dionisio (vocalist at pianist), Uland Rico (drummer), at Caleb Kwe (guitarist at vocalist) mula Grado 4  ng isang medley ng Raining in Manila ng Lola Amour at Believer ng Imagine Dragons upang manalo sa nasabing show. Bagaman kulang sila ng isang miyembro na si Jsam Samudio dahil sa sakit nito na chickenpox, nagawa pa rin nilang masungkit ang panalo sa kompetisyon. "We dedicate this to him" sabi ni Lucas Dionisio bago ang pagkanta para sa lumiban nilang kabanda.  Nasa mga hurado at mga manonood ang pagdedesisyon para sa mga gantimpala na ipinarangal. Para sa mananalo ng Siren’s Heart Award, mga hurado ang nagdesisyon; habang sa K-2 at 3-6 People’s Choice Award naman, mga manonood ang bumoto  gamit ang kanilang mga UPIS Day Ticket na kinolekta ng PKA 3-6 para sa bilangan. DuPont would be disappointed to know that Peter had wrecked his throat.

         It happened in the fourth song, and Peter felt it when he thrown himself off in that high note on “Diamonds”. It served him right for trying to add mustard to it, trying to hit a note he wasn’t properly trained to carry and for which he hadn’t prepared his vocal cords, which was already exhausted by then, to try. But had he learned his lesson? Nope! He had been riding the performance high, had been euphoric watching the kings and queens parade down the runway in elaborate and stunning undergarments and swimsuits, imagining how dazzling he looked to Ashira and Naseem in that black dress under those hypnotic lights.

           When the big finish came, when all the singers came onstage for a final song medley while the models strutted in their underwear, Peter had to, just had to, throw his head back and give it his all, push his falsetto to the limit and milk  that high note for all its worth, to give the attendees what they paid for, and what that activist organization in Cameroon what they needed. And now Peter couldn’t record a song. Thank goodness for his species’ incredible regenerative abilities -- he didn’t know when he will heal, but he knew it would be soon. All he could do was write songs and dick around on his computer in the meantime, do some work that didn’t involve his vocals. Speaking of...

         Peter’s alarm went off. He closed out of the email he was reading, one detailing how much money the show raised for the gay Cameroonians, and stretched. Break time, an hour a day he promised Naseem he’d take for himself for rest (”And I don’t mean sleep!” Naseem made sure to emphasize) and that Peter was forced to take, anyway, until he recovered. And to quicken the recovery period, Peter brewed a nice, hot cup of tea, his favorite ginseng blend with a hint of cherry syrup. He carried the mug to the bedroom, where he knew his current read and cozy thrown blanket awaited him.

        He froze at the door, his hand still clenched around the knob. “Caleb?!”

        The child gasp, whipping his head around and causing a long line of wine red lipstick to cut across his cheek. He looked at Peter with those large honey eyes, now ringed with wild smears of powdered shadow that looked like they were drawn on with fingers, midnight blue and sunset orange on one eye, tropical green and shimmering hot pink on the other. Beneath the bright pink blush caked on Caleb’s cheeks, the skin paled as the child slowly lowered the lipstick.

        “...What... are you... doing?” Peter asked, each pause he forced himself to take to monitor his volume.

          “I...” Caleb set the tube of lipstick down, and the wax stick broke off and fell, drawing a gasp from the child and a strangled groan from his foster father, “I... I’m sorry! I...! I wanna be pretty, too!”

         Except the makeup was expensive as hell even when Peter got them on sale, and whatever latent eye infection Caleb may have must be crawling all over Peter’s eye makeup, and that was one of Peter’s favorite lipstick shades and it was so hard to find it and it’s probably discontinued and now it’s ruined! 

         IT’S COMPLETELY RUINED!!

          Peter’s mouth hung open. He thought he was going to scream. But Caleb hung his head, sitting on his knees on the vanity stool, fiddling with his hands and smearing the makeup even further all over his fingers. Makeup that he tried to use, like Peter. 

           I wanna be pretty, too!

           And instead, Peter laughed. His hand flew from the doorknob to over his mouth, to hold in the adoring laugh that bubbled up as Peter walked to the vanity and set the warm mug down. “Aw, Caleb!” he cooed softly, “That’s so sweet! But you should have asked before using my stuff!” 

        “...I know...” Caleb mumbled.

          Peter leaned against the vanity, crossing his arms and sighing, smiling down at the child. “...Do you want me to do your makeup for you?”

          Caleb’s eyes brightened. He nodded, his smile crinkling the dark red line on his cheek. “Yes, please!”

       Peter plucked a clean reusable wipe from the box, spraying it with oil. As he wiped, he knew that he shouldn’t reward this behavior, that he was going to have to punish Caleb in some way for using his expensive cosmetics without permission. As he dried Caleb’s face, Peter knew he was going to have to go through everything to see what Caleb had gotten his fingers in to throw away. But Caleb had his small, round face turned up to him, his eyes closed and his smile wide, waiting for Peter to skillfully paint his face.

          Peter gently gripped Caleb’s chin and picked up another tube of lipstick, one that Peter wasn’t so attached to. “Just so you know, Caleb,” Peter said as he drew along Caleb’s lips, “You are already a very beautiful boy.”

The Victims of the Aurora Shooting

On July 20, 2012, a deadly shooting transpired at a Cinema 16 theatre in Aurora, Colorado. This tragedy happened during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises. A devastating total of 82 casualties were reported. 58 people received non-fatal injuries from gunfire, 4 from tear gas, and an additional 8 people were injured whilst fleeing the theatre. 12 people were killed. This post is a tribute to the fallen victims. 

Jonathan Blunk, 26, pictured with his daughter. Jonathan Blunk was a father of two, as well as a Navy veteran. Between 2004 and 2009, Blunk had served three tours in the Persian Gulf and North Arabian Sea. Blunk was killed while protecting his girlfriend, Chantel, pushing her beneath the theater seats.  According to family and friends, Blunk had wanted, if able to choose, to die as a hero. And indeed he did. 

Alexander Boik, 18. Boik’s dream was to become an art teacher. He had been accepted at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, where he would have attended classes in the fall of 2012. Boik enjoyed baseball, music, and making pottery. His family had said that Boik was dating a young woman who was also present at the shooting. She fortunately survived. Boik’s family specified that Alexander was “loved by all who knew him”, and that he was “a wonderful, handsome, and loving 18-year-old young man, with a warm and loving heart”. 

Jesse Childress, 29. Described by Air Force Captain Andrew Williams as knowledgeable, experienced, and respectful, Childress had been an Air Force cyber-systems operator. Childress had been based at the Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado. Tech Sergeant Alejandro Sanchez, a co-worker and bowling teammate of Childress, said “He would help anyone and always was great for our Air Force Unit”. Ashley Wassinger, another co-worker, said that Childress “was a great person, fun to be with, always positive and laughing. Really just an amazing person, and I am so lucky to have been his friend”. 

Gordon Cowden, 51. Cowden, a “true Texas gentleman”, was with his two teenage children the night of the Aurora tragedy. Thankfully his children survived the shooting, ultimately escaping unharmed. Cowden had his own business and also loved the outdoors. He was, as described by his family, “a quick witted world traveler with a keen sense of humor”. Cowden’s family went on to say that he “will be remembered for his devotion to his children and for always trying to do the right thing, no matter the obstacle”. Cowden was the eldest victim of the Aurora shooting. 

Jessica Ghawi, 24. Jessica Ghawi, also known as Jessica Redfield, had only just prior to the shooting, written about surviving a mall shooting in Toronto. The beloved sports writer’s death came as an absolute shock to her brother, Jordan Ghawi. Jessica has been described by friends and colleagues as smart, outgoing, and witty. Hockey player Jay Meloff, Ghawi’s boyfriend, was hit very hard by her death. “140 characters could never do you justice nor could all the words in this world. Never wanted to fall asleep because it meant missing time with you”. Meloff had tweeted the previous words shortly after Ghawi’s death. 

John Larimer, 27. Larimer was a Navy petty officer and the youngest of five siblings. When the shooting began, Larimer immediately rushed to shield his girlfriend, Julia Vojtsek, his life being taken soon thereafter. He had once told his brother Noel that the best way to die was in the process of saving someone else’s life. John Larimer had immense pride for his country and will continue to be loved by his girlfriend, friends, and family. Adam Kavalauskas, a former friend and college roommate of Larimer, expressed that Larimer was “never selfish” and was “always serving others”. 

Matt McQuinn, 27. On the night of the shootings, Matt McQuinn was with his girlfriend, Samantha Yowler, and her brother, Nick Yowler. When the shooting commenced, McQuinn and Nick Yowler attempted to shield Samantha with their bodies. The young woman was unfortunately shot in the leg, but was able to escape with her unharmed brother. McQuinn, however, did not survive. His stepfather, David Jackson, stated “I know he’s a hero. He and Sam were very much in love and planning their life together. I am sure they were thinking very seriously about getting married soon.” 

Micayla Medek, 23. Medek was out with a group of about ten friends to see “The Dark Knight Rises” on July 20. She was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and loved to hang out with friends. Medek’s aunt, Jenny Zakovich, described her as an independent-minded and sweet girl who rarely asked her family for anything. “This shouldn’t have happened to somebody like her,” Zakovich said. Anita Bush, the cousin of Medek’s father, has said that she hopes “this evil act...doesn’t shake people’s faith in God”. 

Veronica Moser-Sullivan, 6. Veronica was the youngest victim of the Aurora shooting. “She was excited about life as she should be. She’s a 6-year-old girl,” said her great-aunt. Veronica, an only child, tragically died on the operating table at a local hospital. 

Alex Sullivan, 27. Sullivan was celebrating his 27th birthday with friends on the night of the shooting. His first wedding anniversary with his wife Cassie would have been just two days later. Sullivan was cherished by his family and friends, and was described as “just a big teddy bear” who gave great hugs. He was smart and funny, with a great smile, according to his loved ones. Sullivan was an enormous movie fan and a comic book geek, as well as a fan of the New York Mets. “He was a very, very good young man,” said Joe Loewenguth, Sullivan’s uncle. 

Alexander Teves, 24. “Alex was a very wonderful, kind, caring person,” said Teves’ aunt, Barbara Slivinske, “He had a great sense of humor. At one point he grew his hair ten or twelve inches long so that he could cut it off and donate it to Locks of Love”. Teves died while protecting his girlfriend as the gunman attacked several movie-goers. He had a master’s degree in counseling psychology from the University of Denver and was aspiring to become a psychiatrist. Alexander Teves is survived in part by his two younger brothers, ages 16 and 17. 

Rebecca Wingo, 31. Wingo was working towards an associates of arts degree at the Community College of Aurora. She had joined the Air Force after graduating from high school. Wingo became fluent in Mandarin Chinese and served as a translator. Her father, Steve Hernandez, posted a FaceBook post saying, “I lost my daughter yesterday to a mad man. My grief right now is inconsolable. I hear she died instantly, without pain, however the pain is unbearable”. A friend of Wingo, Hal Wallace, said that she had “the sweetest smile you’ve ever seen. She got prettier as she grew older”. 

Other victims who survived, but received extensive lifelong injuries. 

Ashley Moser, the mother of Veronica Moser-Sullivan, suffered a miscarriage not long after the shooting. She also lost her ability to walk as a result of many critical gunshot wounds. Moser will remain in a wheelchair for the remainder of her life. 

Caleb Medley has serious brain damage as well as an eye injury due to a shotgun wound to the head. He requires a feeding tube and has severely impaired movement. Medley can no longer speak. After the completion of three brain surgeries, he was the last victim of the Aurora shooting to be discharged from the hospital. 

The Community First Foundation collected over $5 million for a fund for the Aurora victims and their families. The Aurora Victim Relief Fund announced on November 16, 2012, that each claimant would recieve $220,000. On July 25, 2012, three out of the five hospitals treating Aurora victims announced that they would either limit medical bills or forgive them entirely.
