I know I talked about this before when the series ended, but I love the juxtaposition of these two shots ignoring that they accidentally reversed her image in the mirror in the first one.

First of all, it's very clear how much more budget they had by the end of the series. Look at how much more detailed her mirror is, not to mention the shadows behind it, and even though I'm sure it's actually because of budget, you can see the far wall/mural reflected in the glass in PEEV as opposed to the blank mirror in TBEA.

However, budget or not, I think that really works for symbolism. In TBEA, Rapunzel wasn't sure what the future would hold, and she wasn't sure who she was. She wasn't ready for her life outside the tower to "end" already, or to be roped into a role that she was not yet prepared to fill. In TBEA, the mirror behind her isn't just blank, it reflects nothing at all, not even the far wall. Rapunzel is only able to see herself and her uncertainty.

However, by the end of PEEV, when Rapunzel looks in the mirror, she not only sees a strong, confident, beautiful young lady, she can also see all the adventures she's had in the past few years reflected back at her. She can see the life she's been able to lead and the good she's done. She can see the people and experiences that have mattered the most to her. She can see that she's not at all trapped here, but that this role, this duty, is a part of her life, and a part that she's now ready to take on.

Similarly to budget, but similarly symbolic, in TBEA, the only thing on the vanity was her crown, and it was central on the table: the one thing that seemed to matter to her father and the people of Corona. The thing that was putting so much pressure on her. But in PEEV, the crown's cushion is off to the side. It's no longer the central focus of her life. She's allowed to see herself first, and the crown second, with more personal and immediately useful items taking center stage on the vanity.

These two shots really show how far Rapunzel has come during the course of the series, as a whole.

Passengers falling asleep during the flight reminds me of the cruise ship arc where Ron and the four suspects were also unconscious, or pretending to be, which we found out later.

I am convinced that the similarities between the Cruise ship arc and the Koku Island arc will be grand scale in its endeavors.

That would mean deaths. RonToto will be injured to the point of dying. Amamiya will too.

I wonder if that’s Koku Island in the Gulf of Thailand, the tropical weather reigns over there, compared to Izu Islands, which is not so at this time of the year. It can be 4 degrees Celsius during winter nights.

Google gives me this result and a children’s book with the same name about three anthropomorphic friends that welcome visitors teaching them not stop dreaming and stay being curious.

I feel people are going to like the twist of this week's Doctor Who much better than I and I say this as someone who loved the shit out of Lux but I'm kind of already extremely tired of this era just living in its own arsehole ESPECIALLY as RTD fucking loves calling back to his own era

I'll grant it this is more of a narrative one compared to the meta aspect of Lux but I'm still really not in love with this

He did it in his prior era but at least that was referencing stuff only a couple of a years old. Not a decade

The prequel comic page I found is easily findable on tumblr, I am afraid to leave an @ as I don’t want it to get taken down or flooding someone’s page with randos and such as yall can be werid but holy shit this all makes sense now.

She feels the fear she should have 24 years ago since the prequel is set in 1962 and the as of now timeline is 1986, this also makes me wonder if she wore that particular one that day in ‘86 as a form of a reminder if you believe she stole it from Otto, in fact that forest could have been the same exact one as she probably didn’t remember…..HOLY SHIT WAIT I KNOW WHY SHE WOULDNT!!!!!👀😳. Maybe Sam has a form of derealization/dissociation, but this might be likely and holy shit this actually might come in handy for the sequel ( or maybe it’s useless idk what yall think??)

I will never watch it, but I know the Minecraft movie is better than the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, because it doesn't try to bring the corrupting influence of the shadow warriors into glorious Albion

“With all our focus on memory and the promise, this “trilogy” is a trilogy on perspective. Memory and perspective are deeply entwined because memories aren’t an exact recall. They’re coloured by how we feel, context around them, and they’re different every time we remember. The first two episodes show memories impacted by a combination of external influence and internal biases: aka, the major things getting in the way of Catra and Adora’s communication and pushing them farther apart. Catra and Adora’s whole conflict, and the catalyst for the whole story, is based on a difference in perspective. In this spirit, of course the one thing I do wish we’d gotten more of is Adora’s point of view to see her inner journey go from “I mean you are kind of disrespectful” and “you never protected me!” to “Shadow Weaver hurt us, I haven’t forgotten that”…

But it still works.

It’s fitting that this all leads to ‘Corridors’, where we see our first flashback without outside influence, and that’s where things start to change for the better. Where instead of distorted half truths, it’s just a simple honest reflection that opens a path forward. From ‘Promise’ to ‘Corridors’ we get the bookends of the beginning and end of Catra’s proper villain arc. And both include shots of her looking into a mirror. First disoriented in ‘Promise’ and then more soberly in ‘Corridors’.

So having gone over all these similarities - do I think the “trilogy” is intentional? I don’t know but probably not. What it is I think is a mark of good writing. I think the amount of parallels, callbacks and symmetry between these episodes is a testament to solid writing instincts when writing significant episodes and the story’s arc. So me pointing this out is less a “Aha, they all planned this from the start” and more of a huge amount of praise to the care, attention and understanding put into the story. And the byproduct of this kind of understanding are these fun patterns and artistic harmony which make the story all the more immersive, fun to watch and fun to think about.”

I attest to all of this, including the assumption that it probably wasn’t intended because TV show making just doesn’t work that way. At least it never used to work that way. Maybe more so recently - where they map out a full season’s worth of narrative and characterization content in a TV show right from the beginning - due to the show creators’ anxiety of cancellation and they want to make sure they’re not just wasting their time, energy and money so map it all out beginning to end.

But otherwise… no, a TV show is basically treated like a living being and so things can change at any moment throughout both the writing and production processes. So yes, I would just say this particular show creator had a very good grasp on what it was that he wanted from the story that these 3 episodes do seem like a trilogy.

It is the mark of very good writing that there is this many parallels, callbacks and symmetry in episodes.

It’s passionate, careful and conscientious writing. I could (probably have) pointed out many in Xena too because that show also was treated like a living being where they just let the show basically write itself by paying attention to how certain aspects with the narrative and characterization played out and… of course the audience’s reception from it. With the exception of Joss Whedon I can’t think of any truly great writer that doesn’t let things happen naturally and isn’t a control freak about absolutely everything.

Odds are Stevenson had a vision of what he wanted for the trajectory of the show but just allowed nature to take its course and wrote to whatever felt most right.

TV shows that are treated like living beings are the very best kind in my opinion. She-Ra is no exception to that.

What is the show’s worst callback to the movie?

In my opinion, it's not even a question. It's Cassandra whacking Zhan Tiri on the head with the frying pan and saying, "Frying pans! Who knew, right?"

Because a) it shouldn't have been a one-hit KO, b) that's Eugene's line, and I hated it every single time they decided to give Cassandra one of Eugene's callbacks, and c) she's saying it to Rapunzel. Rapunzel, who is this kingdom's inventor of using a frying pan as a weapon! There is no reason to say, "who knew?" to the person who knew it first! It's so stupid and pointless and poorly written, and was just there to make the audience go

And while that's true of a lot of the callbacks (especially towards the end), they aren't all as egregious as this one.

Fun! I normally don’t get asked questions so not sure if I’m doing this right.

I would love to see Lucy singing karaoke. I loved the found family and overall optimism/fun aspects of the first two seasons. I know she did karaoke with Jackson so it could be a nice homage to him as well but just to see her back out there, finding some joy and strength in singing.
