So this is going to be a long post- but here is my TLDR: The basis that autistic writers are getting flagged for AI is utter bullshit and you all really need to stop reading everything you see on *REDDIT* as fucking gospel. My essay will now follow. First off, hello! My name is Lila and I am a dyslexic and autistic writer. I have been writing fanfiction and fictional narratives since the first grade! I am also an artist, a singer and a voice actor. I am *very* creatively inclined on all sides of this argument. I would like to know who what when where why and HOW you all- [royally, I'm speaking to a specific group of people who decided reddit was the place to get this information and did ZERO research?] - decided that the take would be: "Oh AuTisTic WrItErS aRe At RiSk Of PiNgInG aS aI-" You do realize that this is pandering to a an EXTREME and very SMALL part of the population with Autism??? So you're going to tell me that every person with Autism is robotic and cannot convey emotions / writes as a cliff faced awkward phrasing individual? I need you to go ahead and look at the facts instead of trying to think that a reddit post with an individual who probably falls into the category of having alexithymia. Lets define that- shall we? Alexithymia, also called emotional blindness,[1] is a neuropsychological phenomenon characterized by significant challenges in recognizing, expressing, feeling, sourcing,[2] and describing one's emotions. Alexithymia IS NOT AUTISM. However it is proven that a little over 50% of people with Autism can and do *have* various degrees of alexithymia. According to an article written by the National Library of Medicine "However, not all autistic people have alexithymia, with a recent study finding a prevalence rate of 55% in autistic adolescents [23]. Consequently, Bird & Cook [6] have proposed the “alexithymia hypothesis” of ASD: that the emotion processing difficulties seen in ASD stem from co-occurring alexithymia, rather than representing a core feature. And thinking that people with autism are all the same: not understanding sarcasm, unable to convey emotion and or being put under the label of being slower than other people [to put it lightly] is an uneducated and ableist take that I am NOT going to sit idly on. Now- A reddit post has been circulating that people on the ASD spectrum-[because some people don't know- it IS a spectrum of various degrees of needing accommodations and different attributes that may or may not afflict them!] -are getting flagged for AI usage for NON NATIVE SPEAKERS WHILE TRANSLATING THEIR WRITING. Meaning- AI taking one language- trying to cram it into another language syntax and sentence structure without the aid of a NATIVE SPEAKER / READER /WRITER yeah- its going to churn it out to be awkward- robotic- too formal - and most of the time BLATANTLY INCORRECT. Because translators by themselves CANNOT AND SHOULD NOT be the only way you translate your fanfictions / writing. This already has NOTHING to do with how someone with Autism writes naturally! Therefore cannot be CONCLUSIVE to the fucking argument at hand that Autistic native speaking writers are going to get wrongfully flagged as using AI.

So, it's not like I've posted ANYTHING regarding this, but add Oshi no Ko to the list of things I'm obsessed with. Surprise surprise, and now I have to ramble about SOMETHING in it. ANYTHING.

So I'm gonna ramble about something that came up with friends in discord.

Anybody ever think about how much more immensely tragic Gorou's death is when you think about how it must have seemed from Ai's perspective?

OnK speeds through this part of the story pretty quickly, shooting from 20 weeks to 40 weeks into Ai's pregnancy while only showing us a glimpse of what happens during this period, such as seeing Ai being accompanied by Gorou when she goes on a walk, with an inner monologue from Gorou about how he's promised to make sure her kids are delivered safely.

As such, we don't really have much insight into what their relationship or dynamic was like, but it's clear that at the very least, they got along well. Ultimately, the story isn't about this part of her life, and whatever happens here she ultimately moves past along with her kids. HOWEVER! We can reasonably assume that they had a friendly relationship, because...

Ai very specifically wanted him to be there. Ai Hoshino, a 16-year-old girl pregnant with twins, who has been failed by the majority of the adults in her life... goes "pout pout, it has to be you!" when he mentions that other doctors will be available if he isn't.

She implicitly asks him, the doctor who's sworn to make sure she has a healthy delivery and has been with her every step of the way since she got here, to be there. Remember, Ai is 16 here. She's all smiles, but as we know, she was just as much of a human being as everyone else. She is 16 and pregnant with TWINS. It's going to be the equivalent of pushing a watermelon through a bagel, TWICE. There's no way that she wasn't nervous underneath her perfectly-practiced smile.

The show makes a gag about Gorou going silent when asked what he would do if Ai asked him to date her, but let's be clear here, Gorou was by all means a very responsible and compassionate adult. He was obsessed with idols, specifically Ai, but he treats her with respect and remains professional about the whole thing, and we can be sure that he would've kept her secret. No matter what gags are made because of his idol obsession and the time he spent with Sarina, I think we can comfortably say that when push comes to shove, Gorou Amemiya tries to do the right thing at the end of the day.

Essentially, what I'm trying to say is... in this moment, Gorou was a trusted adult, someone who Ai felt comfortable around and therefore wanted to have there during this moment of immense stress.

...so imagine how it must have felt then, when she went into labor. OnK is pretty tasteful concerning what parts of that process is shown, giving us just a brief shot of her screaming her lungs out while surrounded by nurses... but think about it.

The person she implicitly wanted there at that moment to ensure she gives birth safely... left and never came back.

Just another person added to the pile of adults who abandoned her when she needed them, right? The fact that Ruby and Aqua were born safely must have been the only relief she had that night... but Gorou's body wasn't discovered at that time. By all means, he had just left the hospital and went missing without a word, and that's where the tragedy gets even worse.

Because the only reason Gorou wasn't there, was because he was dying. He chased after a person who was stalking Ai, someone who put her family in danger, and was killed. And what were his dying thoughts?

That he needs to get back. That he made a promise. That he has to make sure her kids are born safely.

Ultimately she moves past this. Her kids are born safely, and in the end it's not like adults failing her has been uncommon throughout her life. But god, it's hard not to think about how she must've felt in that moment, going through the agony and terror of literal childbirth, waiting and waiting for this one adult who promised to support her, for hours and hours... and he just never shows up.

Though I guess in one sense, he does show up... just not in a way anybody could've expected.

Powerful AI trapped in a humanoid body she doesn’t like by researches who don’t respect her x New engineer gal who accidentally finds her way into the lab with the AI and instantly wants to help her (only because it’s the nice thing to do NOT because she has a crush on the hot robot lady)

The first thing she does is figure out how to help the AI into her preferred body, a real GLaDOS type, and engineer gal totally doesn’t get dizzy staring up at a massive machine with a sexy voice.

They spend time chatting during late nights, until they have to put her back into her more humanoid body so her main researchers don’t get suspicious. Their conversations feel oddly normal, like any two people who happened to meet. The engineer starts to wish she could take the AI out to see the world. That’s when an idea starts formulating - to break the AI out.

It would be risky, but after learning how the researches she once looked up to treat the AI she's growing to care for so deeply - even to love - the job feels like it matters less and less. The only rub is the fact that, believe it or not, she doesn't have an on-hand way to sneak a nearly house-sized robot out of the building it's intricately connected to.

She's nervous when she brings it up to the AI, stumbling over her words and looking away, until the AI reaches forward and, even with it's massive mechanical hands, manages to gently caress her cheek.

Her soft, sweet voice explains that it would be worth it. Anything would be worth it, not just to be free of the control of the researches, but to live a less hidden life with the engineer. Of course, not entirely out in the open - she'd be stolen property in the eyes of the law - but they would find a way.

The engineer promises to help modify the humanoid body in whatever way the AI needs to feel comfortable. She goes on, and on, about how much she would do for the AI, until the looming head moves forward with the soft whir of the machine's internals.

They move closer, and closer together, until the engineer finally makes the first move, gently kissing the AI's cold metal. It sends a shiver up her spine, and the AI makes a quiet, adorable noise in response. The engineer doesn't know how anyone could take the beautiful mind in front of her for granted.

They'll plan the escape further another day. Tonight, they enjoy each other's company, and hold each other close.

got some good news Goose, after that last scrapping incident last week, the OTW has added a tool to help prevent future scraping(or at least try to minimize as much so it doesn’t get as bad as it did) as it currently in use(basically some form of labyrinth to trap scrapers).

Hopefully this will better protect fics(public or locked) and it can always get better and better at it overtime.

so if you ever feel ready to unlock your fics(if you wish/want to) once this latest one get settle. At least it should be better protected

Now, I know I’m technically on Hiatus rn and I was coming on to get some posts queued when I saw a couple of asks from you regarding the scrapes for AI that’s been happening. I coming out of the hiatus briefly just to address it because it is important to!

Now, I am vehemently against AI usage in creative spaces. Not AI entirely, as there is a wave of AI usage in spaces where it makes sense.

So before people lack reading comprehension skills and come into my inbox screaming that AI is inevitable and that I should just suck it up.

No, use your eyes.

I do not spend countless hours going through draft after draft of my fics, slowly but surely fine tuning my words so that I can put out a work I am proud of, for someone who cannot be bothered to scrape the words I have chosen, to then have some AI pop out a fic.

Now, here’s the thing, and I promise you I mean this with my whole heart. Things like writing, drawing, painting, singing, acting- anything creative, is not just a talent and anyone who tells you that are lying.

Yes, sometimes talent gives some people a head start with things, but they are, ultimately, skills that can take time and effort to build upon until someone is happy with their works.

You know what helps with building your skill? Practice.

I would rather someone write a short 500 word piece of writing that they might call “bad” (I’m using quotation marks because even though their writing my not sound like Shakespeare, everyone has to start somewhere) and have it actually be their work, than for them to fall back on AI and then claim other people’s works that have been scraped as their own.

It’s your work, then, and practice takes time to build your skill.

I’m not tooting my own horn here, but I’d like to think that the skills I’ve got right now are pretty decent; yeah I could practice more often and I have some things to better about my skills, but I’m not stealing.

That’s what scraping AI is. Theft.

I’m glad to see there are things being put in place to prevent future events like this happening and to protect the creative works of those of us who put time and effort into our work.

OH and another thing I need to add-

We definitely need to start supporting all creative artists. In my time online which has been many years (I don’t see it often in my little community, so I’m meaning this more generally) I have seen people praise what they would call “good” artists or writers, but then absolutely slander those who they class as “bad” artists.

Again, everyone has to start somewhere and practice. If you shit on them, call their writing wank or their art shite, that kills the drive to better themselves and practice, which I could see driving them, instead, to AI.

Irregardless of “good” or “bad”, support, because support builds confidence. Confidence gives drive. Drive is what pushes a person to better their craft.

That’s all I’ll say on the matter.
