Shameless Self Promo Monday!

Thank you for the tag @layalu. Since Tumblr took down my art blog and I still haven't heard back from support - art on main today. And since my pieces are pretty large I'm going to collage them for this.

My Dragon Age Warden, Dymitr Amell. I'm not interested in Dragon Age much anymore but I am very proud of this piece - it proved to myself that I can paint digitally, a skill I've never thought I was good at.

No OC in particular here. I went to my local renaissance faire and one of the jousting knights had this super cool hairstyle. My interest in angels also spiked here. This was painted near Halloween so I was going for a "Frankenstein's monster but as a D&D aasimar paladin."

Also no OCs in this picture. It's my piece for Art Fight's spring prompt challenge called Sprout Fight. I used the prompt wisteria and I wanted to depict secret and/or forbidden love. I've been really into drawing in the tarot card format/size (2.75 x 4.75 inches). In CSP I have several presets set up for different media sizes like postcards, artist trading cards, tarot cards, magazine pages, ect. It works well when you want to challenge yourself with different sized canvases.

My current WIP. I started drawing this in November 2024 and put it down for MONTHS. I want to get back into it because it was almost finished!! This is a depiction of a scene in one of my roleplays. It's a fantasy AU with me and a friend's OCs. This depicts my OC Luciano, a prince with a tyrannical father. He stood up to him, but was killed. 2 make a long story short he was brought back to life with creepy bog magic and Loralai (my other OC), the keeper of the lake, is presenting him with a sword to use in his quest. This piece was a CHALLENGE. Ívarr, the kingdom depicted, is a semi-colorless place. Very grey and bleak. The grass there is grey. Lots of white clashed with red and black kinda deal. Do u know how hard it is to draw grey grass? on top of that I don't find myself very skilled when it comes to values so painting in monochrome hurts me. I am SO proud of that mountain though, like so proud. I have to finish putting in colors on the OCs, then it's onto effects and color balancing which is honestly my favorite part of any piece.

Wanted to end this post by mentioning that I have made a backup art blog in case Tumblr decides to ghost me, which I believe they're going to. It's @wieszczy-art. You can go ahead and follow it if you want to see more of my art. I'll post updates on the situation there too. If I have to start using it as my main art blog, I'm going to make it strictly about OCs and my art unlike the previous blog. I'm planning on reblogging my inspiration, tutorials & the like to a secret third side blog. Also planning on keeping the art blog organized unlike my other blogs!

Yuu and the Magical Power of Songs

Yuu Singer, 🎶💎Ramshackle💎🎶 (We wish you a Merry Christmas - Phineas and Ferb Version)

I couldn't think of a better idea for this Christmas than to use "We wish you a Merry Christmas" that they used in Phineas and Ferb… Well. I will do the same for this New Year... This story takes place after the OverBlots; After the near destruction of NRC, Malleus and Yuu combined their magic into a time spell that returned them all to the entrance ceremony to start things off without disaster.

The holidays are the funniest and happiest time of the year for many.

When Yuu first arrived at Twisted Wonderland he didn't imagine the seriousness with which they prepared for each celebration… what he discovered in spring and fall.

And that's not to mention the events that occurred randomly.

Anyway, at this moment the 8 dorm leaders were in a meeting.

"So we agree to decorate everything?" Yuu asked those present, who nodded at his words.

Since for some reason the entire student population wanted to celebrate the holidays at NRC, they needed to vote on whether they would decorate just their dormitories or the entire school.

Azul already had many ideas for the most fruitful season for Mostro Lounge.

"I have many selected items to order." Kalim said excitedly as he showed his cell phone to Riddle.

"Send me the links, I have my contacts so shipping will be cheaper hehehe~". Idia said with a giggle, who was present forced by Ortho.

Leona looked at the largest of the Shroud inquisitively, but he did not want to know.

"And who will pay for everything?" Vil asked, adjusting his Santa hat.

Yuu smiled and the others could swear that demon horns appeared on his head. "The director of course."

The others looked at Yuu strangely; Crowley was a cheapskate no matter how much he said otherwise, they highly doubted that he would pay for Christmas decorations.

"The director is so kind that he gave me his credit card." Yuu said taking said card out of his pocket. "Besides, when he realizes it, it will be too late."

Everything was silent for a moment before everyone laughed like "villains."

These holidays would be expensive for Dire Crowley…

The light music club was preparing to practice; they would have a lot of work performing at Mostro Lounge and the Christmas and New Year party.

"So what should we play today?" Cater asked looking at her cell phone for ideas.

"How about it, all I want for Christmas is you~." Lilia suggested doing a riff.

"It's already widely seen." Kalim commented, much to Carter's surprise.

Kalim had been using a lot of internet tutorials to be more independent, so he also updated himself on trends on the web… Jamil still couldn't decide if Kalim being addicted to MagiCam was good or bad.

"And a classic?" Ortho suggested with a smile. The young man with the shrouds had become a member of the club shortly before the Malleus OverBlot.

At that moment, Yuu entered. "Sorry guys, the decorations arrived and I wasn't going to risk leaving Grim alone with the glass things." He explained, leaving his coat on the coat rack.

"Don't worry Yuu-kun, we're still thinking about what to play." Cater said to the white haired one.

Yuu thought for a moment; He had managed to listen to Ortho's suggestion and thought it was a very good idea.

"And if we sing, we wish you a Merry Christmas?" The others looked at Yuu, it wasn't a bad idea.

"We can use a classic, with a little tweak." Yuu explained to them grabbing a microphone.

"Alright, you're in charge Yuu." Carter said to the aforementioned before turning on a LIVE for everyone to see. Yuu smiled mischievously as Kalim started playing the drums...

The "voice of the gods" was instantly present. Everyone's clothes changed to a unique Santa Claus outfit for each one. For Kalim it was with two shades of red and round gold glasses, for Ortho it was blue with white and a tulle cape with snowflake embroidery, for Carter it was bright green with black and pearls in her hair, for Yuu it was the typical red and white and cool ski goggles.

The song was heard throughout the campus; filled everyone with joy. They organized themselves in the patio to decorate. Many were singing or humming with their hands full of golden tinsel.

At Heartslabyul, Trey watched in barely concealed horror as Riddle pulled out the fruitcake the aforementioned had made. Riddle cut a piece of the cake from him and then looked nervously at the green-haired man. The one with glasses forced a smile before trying the cake… It was because of the magic of friendship and the miracle of Christmas that Trey didn't have stomach pains.

Many were using their brooms to fly around NRC and decorate it. The white already contrasted the black and gray of the building beautifully, but with the gold and green tinsel it looked much more impressive. Inside the building there were white LED lights as far as the eye could see and pine trees were added in the largest rooms. Meanwhile, in the teachers' lounge, they were enjoying a good eggnog… The principal was just crying in a corner because of the receipt of everything.

In Pomefiore, Vil was reflecting on his life choices. The salon was in chaos with many enjoying to "let their hair down" and enjoy themselves. Epel led the party wearing an ugly sweater with lights while he sang about his family's traditions.

Neige had been included in the party. It had been a shock to have discovered that he was distantly related to Epel and now the two got along very well. Vil had no problems with this, after meditating and having Yuu with a therapist, he was able to come to terms with himself and accept that he and Neige were unique.

It can be confusing for us ~

Strangely enough, Epel managed to bring out the most sarcastic and stubborn side of Neige. The two always ended up arguing whether it was about musical tastes, food or clothes. And now they were fighting over which decorations were better. Luckily for Vil, Rook managed to calm things down by saying that both decorations were beautiful together; and he also brought cocoa, which Vil was happy about.

In the NRC cafeteria, many were preparing a magnificent Christmas dinner; Many were grateful that Lilia was busy and not in the kitchen.

Leona sang before taking a big bite out of a turkey leg. The lion was in a dream when the taster of the dinner was selected, to the jealousy of many. And Leona enjoyed teasing the others with moans of satisfaction at how delicious the food they brought him to try was.

Ruggie pouted as he was caught drinking the fruit punch while pocketing a couple of cookies.

Hyena Boy, offended that his lazy friend wouldn't share punch, threw some figgy pudding into the punch bowl.

Ruggie sang mockingly because he knew that of all the fruits, Leona hated the fig the most. In the yard, Silver was sleeping peacefully among a small mound of snow. No one wanted to bother the boy during his nap, but they couldn't help but decorate him; They put a headband on him with reindeer antlers and shiny spheres in his ears.

Azul seriously needed a calculator; His had broken strangely shortly after Jade told him she needed to rest. Now, the lens guy was in her office doing the math by hand and with an abacus.

"At this rate I finish in the new year." Azul thought tiredly as the music from the music club's LIVE was what kept him sane. The boy was also grateful that Yuu's magic decorated his office; he hadn't had much time to do it.

In Idia and Ortho's room, the oldest was dancing around the room while programming the lights, preparing the gifts he had for his brother, and turning on all of his monitors for the special Christmas events in all of his RPG games.

The oldest of the Shroud danced in the comfort of his chair, for him it was very noob to start singing at Christmas. Although he will deny to death that he sang Christmas songs from his favorite anime in the shower.

The music club put the best of their voices into the final part of the song. Carter, Kalim and Ortho could tell that this was the best version of "we wish you a merry Christmas" they had ever heard. LIVE had ranked #1 in trends and throughout Twisted Wonderland they were dancing no matter what.

"Pudding?". Many people asked themselves when they heard the lyrics. Although they didn't give it importance; It was the best one of the best Christmas songs. And needless to say, they enjoyed the chorus at the end.

"Merry Xmas!". Yuu, Carter, Kalim and Ortho exclaimed into the cell phone before the LIVE ended...

Night Raven College had a good day that day and the decorations could be seen from the town on the island. And they were better than the other academy, to the envy of some in the RSA.

We're having AN ACTUAL SPRING? Whoever planted all the cherry trees (and other blossoms) around London - thank u.

For the first month this year, no one I know has died. As far as I'm aware. 🎉🥲

I've been doing Spanish on Duolingo for three full years as of this month, and taking classes for two (with some of the same people! so cool : )). It really feels like my life is just Spanish on Wednesdays sometimes, but if my count is correct I should be at the end of B1 by next summer!! :o

Went to the Stitch Festival, bought a load of stuff. I keep buying more and more yarn from Hobbii because I run out of one specific colour or have An Idea. Goal - don't buy any more in April?! I appreciate having a yarn shop 10 minutes from my house and I try to buy stuff from them whenever poss but to be completely honest the yarn selection is ass, they did not even have blue cotton. :[

Work is mostly stable, new Delivery Manager is settling in fast but I'm hanging around for a bit cos someone is going away for a month so a team needs cover. Still not sure what next, I've had chats about agile coaching. Hopefully not something that's a technology in search of an application - you know what I mean. 🙄

I made it to Data Bites (great talk about waste! all the girls love talking about incineration plants and waste tracking!!! 💖 ) and Product for the People where the vibe was honestly so nice, I really enjoyed myself even though I basically had to work throughout tee day. Also I met someone I've not seen for YEARS there cos they just came back in the UK and are doing something interesting again in one of my old depts. \o/

What is up with the Majima Grayson Perry Everywhere campaign? I picked up needle felting again after a workshop at Stitch Festival and I'm enjoying how easy it is to shape something recognisable. ~__~ It scratches the ceramics itch a bit, which is helpful since the only non-throwing course is on Saturdays in the prime morning swimming hours and I'm not sacrificing this over the summer haha.

While looking for Deltarune amigurumi patterns I found this amazing Seam plushie tutorial so putting that craft on my backlog...

finished Star Trek TOS (due to this post, heh). Boy, did I feel like bobo the fool when I enjoyed the last episode and saw it's the most hated and panned one. 🧍🏻 You can quickly dismiss the premise as misogynistic (whatever the interpretation some aspects are deeply sus) but it's actually easy to find some nuance - and the idea that it's because of the writers' incompetence is delicious. 👹 Like the writer of that article I thought the performances were very fun. Anyway, I just started TNG and it kicked off strong with one of the divas of all time so my hopes are high. Maybe fewer aliens will be just blonde bombshells with funky hairdos this time (would it kill you to pledge your eternal devotion to a sentient pile of rocks that can revive Genghis Khan at least ONCE McCoy you coward! >:( ).

They're neither women's mittens or men's mittens - gender is irrelevant when it comes to keeping your hands warm!

The mittens use between 145 to 186 yards (133 to 170 metres) of a silk blend DK-weight yarn, but any DK-weight wool or wool blend with some drape should work well.

Constantly At The Mercy Of Temperature Changes〜Deadline Extended Thanks To The Leap Year〜

Lately, there have been extremely hot days, and then all of a sudden, the temperatures are dropping again so I often find myself being dressed inappropriately when I go out. Yesterday for example, I was wearing clothes that weren't suitable for the weather😇Flimsy pants made of thin material without tights underneath and just a thin, short down jacket😂My legs were freezing😂 Why did I choose a short jacket? I kept blaming myself all day as I was struggling not to be blown away by the strong wind😇 Well, I somehow survived yesterday, so today I made sure not to make the same mistake again. I wore a thick long wool coat, tights underneath my pants and a huge muffler wrapped around my neck. Best choice, it was perfect ＼＼\\٩( 'ω' )و //／／ I didn't feel the cold at all! ! DIY Cascading Paper Flowers

April showers bring May flowers. Or this gorgeous cascading paper flower garland! I can see this garland as a backdrop for a wedding ceremony, or as a backdrop for the photo booth at the reception. It would also be perfect for a spring party or event. Or to decorate a room. Or to liven up a dreary classroom. The possibilities are endless really! I will be incorporating this cascading paper flower garland into the decor of my new home. This garland template is printed onto text weight (not card stock) cream, yellow, and pale green papers with a metallic sheen that I purchased at PaperPapers. The PDF is three pages, one for each color of paper. I purchased my branch from a floral wholesale house, but you may be able to find one at your local florist on perhaps one that fallen from a tree. I want to make a tarot deck with each of the suits being one of the guys from Sleepy bois inc.

The Pentacles suit would be based on Wilbur Soot.

The Cups suit would be based on Philza.

The Wands Suit would be based on Tommyinnt.

The Swords Suit would be based on Technoblade.

I did research what each suit meaning to to make sure that they lined up too. I got the meaning off of Biddy Tarot I'll link it at the ended. And seeing how that the way they line up a scarly accurate they are.

The Suit of Pentacles Tarot cards deal with the physical or external level of consciousness and thus mirror the outer situations of your health, finances, work, and creativity. They have to do with what we make of our outer surroundings – how we create it, shape it, transform it and grow it. On a more esoteric level, Pentacles are associated with the ego, self-esteem and self-image.

The Suit of Cups Tarot cards deal with the emotional level of consciousness and are associated with love, feelings, relationships and connections.

The Suit of Wands Tarot card meanings are associated with primal energy, spirituality, inspiration, determination, strength, intuition, creativity, ambition and expansion, original thought and the seeds through which life springs forth.

The Suit of Swords Tarot cards deal with the mental level of consciousness that is centered around the mind and the intellect. Swords mirror the quality of mind present in your thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs. I also read that the Sword is also the suit of tragedy or misfortune, in my research too but that was on Wikipedia so maybe.

I just need Ideas for what to put on tbe cards. Each of the suits Has an Ace, 2-10, page/Knave, Knight, Queen, and King.

The Aces will probably be based on the beginning of their Careers. With 2-10 being milestones in the careers or story moments from the dream smp. The Knave, Knight, Queen and King cards will change but probably depict their relationships with eachother, or thoses they were close to. Here is the thoughts I had for Technoblade's card. Techno's King will probably be His dad. The Queen his mother, He would be the knight and the Page/Knave being his relationship with Tommy. The Queeb for Philza will be Mumza.

That just leaves the Major Arcane cards to be handled. But that will be a different posts due to there being 21 different cards. If you have ideas for the art let me know. If I missed info let me know too.

BALATRO REVIEW

From what I've observed of myself and other people online who play Balatro, there are 5 critical stages to playing this game:

Exposure: Either you see it doing well on Steam, Switch, or Mobile, or you see it won many awards, including being up for Game of the Year and you want to see what it's all about.

First Run: You get a lay of how the game works, and since this game is based on Poker, you're either familiar enough to not need that much of a tutorial or skilled enough to be able to do well despite the game's quirks.

Dopamine High: If you haven't dropped the game yet, you start to get better and better at the game, seeing what Joker, Tarot, and Planet cards you like playing and developing your playstyle around that. Getting high amounts of chip totals and winning rounds, maybe even runs. You feel unstoppable, as you're finally starting to figure the game out.

Chasing the Dragon: You're desperately trying to chase that high you felt in Stage 3. Even if you could stop thinking about the game, you don't want to stop. Your life is subsumed by one loop: discard cards, play hand, get chips, buy cards, lose run, start over. Your existence is meaningless unless you win the run.

Review: Going on steam and saying: "yeah this game's good."

I will be the first to admit that I don't play Poker that much, if even at all. I do think that it's a good game, but I'm don't like gambling at all. I can meme all day about how 90% of gamblers quit before hitting it big, but I just don't like that casinos and the institution of gambling itself has rooted itself in our culture. That barrier of scumminess that gambling puts on the game Poker was the main reason I didn't want to play any real version of it.

And then I found out about Balatro, Poker but it's a roguelike video game with no microtransactions, no in-game purchases, no distractions, just you and the game. I absolutely love roguelikes, they make games genres I'm otherwise lukewarm about so much better because I can get exponentially better at them, so this game intrigued me a lot. I picke dit up during the Steam Spring Sale and that's how my life changed forever.

It's a very simple game on the surface, you play different blinds where you have to play different poker hands in order to get the required amount of chips in order to beat the blind. Simple stuff, but where it gets crazy is when you introduce the game's 150 different Jokers, all of them impacting the amount of chips you get from each card, the multiplier for each hand, and the amount of money you get each round, as well as the different tarot cards, planet cards, and spectral cards you get from packs or jokers, and those multiply your chip total even more, and multiple cards can even be augmented with foil or holographs, and the joker cards can even be made negative, which gives you a free slot for more jokers, and you see how someone can get addicted to this loop.

What's truly fascinating is how the roguelike nature of the game is such a perfect fit for a game like poker, so every time you play a round and lose, it's random enough to wear you can feel like you got fucked over by the randomness embedded in the game by its nature, but it requires enough skill and knowledge to know where you went wrong and what you need to do for your next run to be successful. Like a wise man once said, "you got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, and know when to buy that expensive-ass holographic legendary Joker."

Speaking of, some of the jokers in this game are insanely well-balanced. The common jokers that constantly show up all have good attributes, but don't really excel in any special way, but the higher quality jokers either don't show up often enough for you to account for their existence, or aren't the type of card you need in that instance, so you have to balance the opportunity cost of buying that card and having it take up a Joker slot. This sense of balance doesn't just extend to the Jokers, they also extend to the tarot, planet, spectral and voucher cards. The spectral and voucher cards can be insane run-savers, but they're both balanced by the extreme rarity of spectral cards and the fact that you can only buy one voucher until you beat the boss blind. This rarity makes unlocking and discovering each and every card type and seeing them in your collection so much fun.

What a phenomenal game. I honestly don't have a single problem with this game. This is easily the best card game I've ever played, which I know isn't saying much since the only ones I've played are Uno and PvZ Heroes, but it's a compliment nonetheless.

9/10, the fact that this game that the developers made as a side project, never anticipating it getting over a few thousands downloads, now has a Switch and PS5 port, and multiple awards, including a GOTY nomination is insane.

Spring Update 2: Revised Animatic and Animation has Started.

After showing the initial animatic at a critique and to a couple of friends and professors, the common consensus was that it dragged on too long. This is the third version of the animatic, the second version had the montage scene replaced with a 3-hours-later card, and the golden tape scene was removed. From the critique a lot of people didn't get the golden tape scene, what I intended with it was that people would project their own worst memory into it instead of me trying to make it my worst memory, which is the marco polo game in the script. They also thought I should get rid of the montage scene which I personally liked but I tried it out just to see how things worked out. It still seemed a bit choppy and dragged on until I emailed the first draft to last semester's capstone professor and she had a lot of critiques about the basketball scene. That's when a lightbulb went off in my mind, "What if instead of trying to fix it I just remove it". And oh my god the animatic worked so much better and thank god because that scene had a lot of moving parts and complicated backgrounds that I didn't even know if it would be possible to animate at my skill level. Don't get me wrong it did hurt a little to delete a week's worth of work but that's how it is when producing an animation.

Highly recommend reading this book for your observational research during the fall semester. I was an idiot and started reading it in the spring so I barely got halfway through it before I had to start the actual animation process but what I did read was very useful. The main reason why I didn't read it beforehand was because I hate reading books, I feel that video tutorials are way more efficient and easy to understand than reading 400 pages but this book has a lot of pictures and the author's personality really shines through which makes it fun to read. However, you should be highlighting and writing notes on the side of the pages rather than just reading the pages. The more active you are in your research the more you will retain.

Also as the page from the book suggests you should record/time actions you want to animate by performing them yourself. I was really struggling with the last scene where Dillon goes back to bed. By recording myself I was able to see so many small details of my arm and leg placement as I changed positions. I tried this a couple of times with my first attempt being very slow and in this version, I did it a lot faster.

Similar to how my first animation test for the animatic was the walk cycle for Brain Cell 2, so was my Toon Boom Harmony test. I thought this would be the perfect thing to work on first cause this walk cycle requires a lot of different aspects of digital and traditional animation to make it happen and then once I know where everything is I can try and master it by working on the simpler cuts.

First, and probably simplest, is how do I even draw on this thing. I was having a lot of problems with Toon Boom in the beginning because it didn't like the size of my laptop's monitor so I checked out one of the monitors from the Fablab. I then set up my own animation station in the back of the bunker. This was a bit of an annoying aspect working with Toon Boom because if I had some downtime throughout the day, especially at the Fablab, I couldn't work on it because my screen wasn't acceptable and I needed space for the tablet. At the very least what this setup did for me, psychologically, I had a place where I could associate my stress with instead of keeping everything in my room. Until my other roommate let me borrow a monitor he wasn't using, then most of the animating I did at home cause I like having a place with sunlight.

From animating this one walk cycle I learned how to draw, color, make new frames for a layer, create symbols for the eyes and mouth which is useful for when characters are talking, how to insert spines/rigs into certain body parts or drawn pieces such as the legs so that I don't have to draw them frame by frame, how to rotate, resize, and move a drawing using pegs, and how to parent objects. Sometimes I would also get happy accidents such as the legs moving a bit before the body, this goes to a classic principle in animation which is anticipation. I was also really happy with how I was closely able to match the timing of the animation to the animatic, the bag still feels like it has a heavy weight to it.

I would also keep a notebook next to me and write down anything new I would learn so that I was more actively researching when clicking through Toon Boom tutorials on YouTube.

Once the walk cycle was finished and I was happy with how it looked I split up the animatic into 9 different scenes and then tried fully animating Scene 2 since that and Scene 6 is where that specific walk appears. However, that proved to be quite difficult because of how many different camera angles are in Scene 2, such as close-up shots of Bran Cell 1 on the couch, wide shots of Bran Cell 1 & 2, and then that one still with the door. There were simply too many moving parts to animate this on one file so then I thought "What if I split them even further to the cuts that make up each scene".

Now it's difficult to constitute what is considered the ending of a scene but I personally considered a scene done whenever there was a huge change in setting/background or if it felt like there was a new topic being discussed. So scene 1 is Dillon going to bed so we are in and rotating about his bedroom but once we enter inside his brain I call that scene 2 because the backgrounds are completely different for a good length of time. Then when Brain Cell 2 inserts the tape into the VHS player I called that scene 3 since they are not trying to figure out what the VHS tapes might be or how they work anymore but instead the focus is shifted toward the presentation memory even though they are still in the brain room and 2 cuts are in Dillon's bedroom. Some scenes like scene 5 flip back and forth between the brain room and the bedroom and quite honestly scene 6, which is the one where they drag in the new bag and ends when Cell 2 reaches in for another tape, could be argued to be a part of scene 5, especially since scene 3 has both the Brain room and Dillon's bedroom, but you really have to go off your personal feelings as to what will help you best in breaking down your animatic to simple parts.

Unlike scenes, cuts are very easy to define. A cut is whenever the camera angle of the scene is moved. If you think of it in a live-action sense if I wanted to get a different camera angle of my actors I would yell "CUT" and they would take a break while I set up my camera in a new position. Some scenes, like scenes 1 and 6, had only 2 cuts while scene 2 had 20 cuts, in total Bedtime had 80 cuts which includes stills and repeat shots. This made it a lot easier to work out the math as to how much time I had left to make the animation and which scenes and cuts required more priority if I wanted to make a good finished product. Scene 4, which is the montage scene, could be cut out completely if I really was stressed for time while scene 2, the dragging of the first VHS tapes bag, was not easily avoidable since that created the whole setup of the plot.

This can take up a lot of space on your hard drive and it can get annoying to transfer the assets/layers from one Toon Boom file to another so I would combine the cuts that had the exact same camera angles to make life a bit easier for me. I'm not 100% sure this is how people in the industry organize their files but to some degree, they definitely have to do it this way. Remember that you have several teams of people working on an animated project and the way people get paid, at least in Japan, is by the amount of cuts you do per episode.

Now that everything was nicely organized and I knew that my goal was to reach 80 cuts before the beginning of April I had a feasible plan of action. From February 28th to April 8th, I had to do at the very least 2 cuts a day in order to have the animation part done before the day of the exhibition. Obviously, I wasn't just going to do 2 cuts a day because I would be working up to the wire and that's not factoring in the time it takes to make the backgrounds and sounds for the animation so I definitely hoped that during spring break I could do at least 4 a day or get the harder cuts out of the way. If I wasn't able to complete 2 cuts then at the very least I had to start working on 2 cuts and then hopefully the next day I could do 3 or 4 to make up for lost time. Also, it's best to break this up into smaller pieces as well, so instead of "I need to finish 80 cuts as fast as possible" I would say to myself "I need to finish 14 cuts this week as fast as possible" which is why there is a number on the side with how many cuts I still had left to do. This way I can give myself some leisure time or work on other aspects of the capstone or school work and not stress myself out because I still have 43 cuts left. And if I got ahead of schedule by finishing my 14 cuts I felt more motivated to keep working at a steady pace.

Originally I was going to hire somebody to do the backgrounds for me but I ended up doing them myself in Toon Boom because I couldn't really find anybody cheap and even if I did I wouldn't know how to describe what type of backgrounds I wanted cause I needed to do some on my own regardless. I needed 27 backgrounds maximum, some were reusable so it was probably close to 20 but even then that would be way too expensive to make somebody else do for me so might as well do them all myself. That way they are all the same quality and I can save some money that can be allocated somewhere else such as voice actors. If you know some people who are good at digital painting and you have a good idea of what you want I would definitely suggest hiring someone to do the backgrounds. In the industry, everybody is a specialist in only one field, so one person does all the backgrounds while a different person makes the character designs and then a third person is the actual animator. But because Stevens' budget is so limiting for a project like this you have to really pick your battles.

Also highly recommend exporting your cuts as TIF Image Sequences and compositing them in After Effects, the one on the left is a TIF Sequence. When I export into a video format through Toon Boom the colors get a little bit whitewashed. This will however eat up a lot of your hard drive space especially since some cuts will need every layer to be its own separate image sequence. If it's just a still or a single stationary layer then just export it as one image and then extend it. If you're gonna go crazy with compositing in After Effects then you should definitely invest in an external hard drive to make life easier for yourself and it's just a good way to keep your capstone stuff out of harm's way, you never know what may happen to your laptop.

What I want you to take away from this specific post is that ORGANIZATION IS KEY TO A FINISHED ANIMATION. You cannot work on it every day for every second of the spring semester cause you'll get burned out like I did in April. If you can mathematically prove to yourself that you're in a good spot and can afford to give yourself breaks once in a while then your project will come out amazing. If you constantly keep yourself under stress then you'll start taking shortcuts where they don't need to be taken and your animation will suffer because of it.
