I thought that the stylisation is way too fun to limit it to my in-game party (and besides, I sometimes switch party members anyway).

The models (sans my Charname, and including background with Athkatla sewers and Othyugh) are downloadable and usable under CC BY-NC-SA.

The funniest way to play the entire Baldur's Gate trilogy, imo, is to play a cleric of Lathander for the originals and then play another cleric of Lathander as the Dark Urge.

Lathander, the boisterous and optimistic god of sunshine and renewal cheers on his little murder-spawn as they strive to do better and be reborn free of their father, while Bhaal screams at the Morninglord in the background to stop ruining his tools kids!

For bonus points, you can then piss off both gods by having both Charname and Durge romance vampires. I can only assume that at this point Lathander stops answering their calls, and the cleric spells are now coming from Cyric, wearing a blonde wig.

PSA for Baldur's Gate 3 fic writers: the Ao3 character tag "Charname" is not just another way of saying the BG3 main character. That is specifically Gorion's Ward, the Bhaalspawn protagonist of BG1 and 2, called that because it's how they were referenced in the dialogue etc files that we read and modders used. <CHARNAME>. As a code thing, so the game knew to replace it with the character name the player had chosen for them.

From there, it just wound up being what everyone called them in general when discussing the game, because the best other in-game appellation would've been something like... the Child of Bhaal probably, which is just wildly unspecific.

Please try not use the tag for anyone else so as to cut down on the confusion! "Charname" is to BG1 and BG2 what "Tav" is to BG3 for tagging purposes.

Hi, fellow BG3 players who didn't played the two first games yet !

I know Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 seem a bit austere today, with difficult encounters at every corner, only portraits and tiny sprites to visualize how your character and companions look like, the more complicated AD&D 2nd edition rules, the confusing fights...

But first, if you play on easy mode, you can progress even with the worst build ever. It's like a story mode, and you have nothing to prove to 50-ish dudes who play D&D since the beginning. This game has tons of areas to explore and side-stories to discover, and life is too short to be annihilated by any group of gnolls.

There is 25 recruitable companions (29 in the enhanced edition), It's a lot and you cannot recruit everyone, they will chose to follow you or not based on your aligment. So your adventure can greatly change based on what companions are on your team.

The basics you loved in BG3 were already there in BG1 : the charismatic characters, funny and well-written dialogs, the exploration, the choices you can make, the feeling of playing a D&D game on your computer. It just looks, well, more retro.

And for the last part, if you don't have enough of this, I highly suggest you to install the BG1 NPC project mod. It adds more party banters, more dialogs, more companions quests, it makes your companions reacts at what happens, and you can send the recruited companions to an inn to change your team if needed ! Also it's translated in several languages. So now I play BG1 exploring everywhere and listening to Minsc telling Boo bedtime stories and it's wonderful. Bhaal's domain moving from Gehenna to the Grey Wastes in BG3 makes some sense if Charname ascended and claimed the original Throne of Blood.

The Second Sundering happens and the Lord of Murder manifests in his old place and before he has time to take it all in Charname just dumps a box into his arms: "My plane now. Here's your old crap, and I'm keeping Cespenar. Now get the fuck out of my house."

I think the last time I played I got the high Rep version of this dream, but this one is so sinister, I love it. It also fits Anri better.
