Children that never were: Ivytooth
Tumblr media
Their story would have been a sad one.
Ivytooth would become tired of hearing her mother go on about grandkits, moreso than she was already, and Fleetsong and Wolfburn would tease her about being the only one left without a mate.
It was all just jokes, Ivytooth knew that, comments meant to rile her up. But there were two problems:
she didn't like toms
the she-cats in the Clan weren't her type
So Ivytooth would spend most of her time patrolling. Not so much to get away--if she told them to stop, they would stop. But it gave a good enough excuse. How could she have time to settle down if she was so busy hunting and gathering supplies for her Clanmates?
It was the smallest of decisions that sealed her fate. If she had gone right, she'd had ended up in a dense part of the territory, thick with mushrooms that would disguise certain scents and undergrowth that would muffle certain sounds--like those of a murder and a culprit.
But if she had gone left, she would have met a loner who accidently strayed too close to the border.
If she had gone left, she would have seen how hungry the cat was and offered her food one day after the other. They would have grown close, would have shared their insecurities.
The loner would tell her that she was with a brutish tom she couldn't run away from. She would have refused the help of the Clan, for fear of anyone else getting hurt.
Then when she became pregnant, she pleaded that Ivytooth take them so that they can grow up somewhere safe.
They would have made a plan, a way to distract the tom while she gave birth, so that he would never know that the kit survived its first breath.
Ivytooth would have begged the loner to join them too, but would be refused. The father can never know that his son had lived, and she had to keep them far apart.
Broken-hearted, Ivytooth would have returned to camp with a newborn 'abandoned' kit she would raise as her own with the help of a nursing queen.
Every day, she would wonder where her old friend was and if she was even still alive. She would wonder if she should have fought harder, confronted the tom, anything. She would wonder if she should have confessed her feelings, if only for the loner to know that there was someone out there who cared for her.
Instead, she had returned to camp mangled and broken, and wondered from StarClan why her pleas as she lay dying had been ignored.

"There should be security cameras inside of classrooms." Eh, sure. We have them in the hallways and cafeteria. Maybe not my first choice for how to spend tax dollars, but whatever. Then if an issue arises, the footage could be pulled on request and reviewed.
"There should be security cameras with a live stream inside classrooms that parents can view whenever they want to keep their kids safe." Are you insane. Are you absolutely out of your mind. Even assuming that this theoretical live stream would be limited to just the parents of children who have a class in that specific room (not the whole school)....you want dozens of strangers (in elementary) or hundreds of strangers (secondary) to be able to have a live stream of *your child* at school? You can't see a single possible safety or privacy issue that could arise from that situation?

Have you thought about Emma Winchester recently? You know, Deans amazon warrior daughter from season 7? No? Sorry then. Still immeasurably infuriating me.
Anyway, Happy Father’s Day 🥲 from her and the dozens of kids Dean adopted along the way
Have a nice week 🐝🌻

The idea that uni protesters are "elitist ivy-league rich kids larping as revolutionaries" on Twitter and Reddit and even here is so fucking funny to me if you actually know anything about the student bodies at these unis. Take it from someone who's going to one of the biggest private unis in the US, 80% of the peers I know are either from the suburbs or an apartment somewhere in America, children of immigrants, or here on a student visa. I've heard about one-percenter students, but I've never met one in person. Like, don't get me wrong, the institution as a whole is still very privileged and white. I've talked with friends and classmates about feeling weird or dissonant being here and coming from such a different background. But in my art program, I see BIPOC, disabled, queer, lower-income students and faculty trying to deconstruct and tear that down and make space every day. So to take a cursory glance at a crowd of student protesters in coalitions that are led by BIPOC & 1st/2nd-gen immigrant students and HQ'd in ethnic housings and student organizations and say, "ah. children of the elite." Get real.
#also idk how to tell you this but even if it were true. wealthy children potentially sacrificing their educational careers to protest is#a good thing actually. idk how to tell you that caring about people from other nations is good#personal#“this war has nothing to do with most students cuz nobody's getting drafted” idk how to explain to you that we should be angry#that our tuitions of 10s of thousands of dollars that we pay every year for an education is being used to fund a genocidal campaign#also the implication that if you go to a uni institution you are automatically privileged by participation no matter your bg#i didn't /want/ to go to this school. i was supposed to go to a school with an art/animation program. but i realized my immigrant#parents have been working their whole lives to get me here. and turning the opportunity down would be a disservice to their sacrifice#this is getting into convos of “what 2nd gen kids owe their parents” which is different for everyone but. yeah#i just get pissed off at seeing people misrepresenting student bodies as “wealthy” and “privileged” and “elite” when it's such a blatant li#i remember a year ago a friend told me they can't fly home to hong kong for winter break because the plane tickets are too expensive#so they have to find temporary housing around the area#last quarter for a film doc class my film partner made a doc on a small group of marxist grad students from india discussing praxis#during a rally a few months ago in response to police presence the coalition invited palestinian students to speak about their experiences#and lead songs and read poems they wrote. these are STUDENTS. are they elitist too?#this is not to disregard my own personal privilege either.#this whole narrative's just to rationalize a lack of empathy to me. seeing a 19yo student get shot by a rubber bullet and your first#reaction is “HAW! HAW! bet richy rich didn't see THAT coming when she put on her terrorist hood!”#newsflash. these big uni campuses are HAUNTED by the violence of past protests and revolutions and police brutality. we know.#why do you think these coalitions have been making reinforced barricades at record speed

if you struggle with mental health, one piece of advice i would genuinely give you is learn to knit.
or crochet: something repetitive to do with your hands, assuming you're capable of it. if you're like me and learnt to knit as a kid but let it lie fallow for a long time, it may be that starting a large, simple project (for me it was a cloak, but a blanket could work too) gets you back into it. or maybe doing something smaller, idk. i personally found socks really hard for a while because they felt smaller than my cloak but weren't getting Done quick enough for me. as i've sped up i find it more interesting to knit socks.
regardless, a repetitive task is great for emotional regulation (also see: autistic stimming), and something that you can look at and go hey i've done something, unlike simply using a fidget toy, can also help to pick your mood up when the brain is being cruel.
it's also useful as a conversation starter or distracter if you don't know what to talk about. if you're wanting to talk to older people also you're more likely to reel them in with knitting (i work better with older people, and 99% of people who ask what i'm knitting are older than me). it also gives you the opportunity to not make eye contact because you're busy knitting, even if you're still carrying on a conversation. if you're absolutely stuck for conversation you can count your stitches and people might stop bothering you.
if you have trouble focusing without doing something with your hands, you can knit! i knit a lot in church, and it helps me to focus on what's being said.
i probably have more reasons you should pick up knitting, but i can't recall them right now, so yeah.

Prompt 209
Now Jason was planning on, well, a lot of things, when he came back to Gotham. He had a lot of plans, several of which had to do with the old man and even more that had to do with cleaning up Crime Alley, making it safer and all that.
What he was not planning on was to find some sort of lab in the basement of where he was planning on setting up a safehouse. Nor was he planning on finding several literal children in cages inside said lab. Oh and Lazarus Waters- but children! With muzzles! Being experimented on!
Now he’d like to say he had a plan in what happened next, but if he’s honest everything had gone Green and he didn’t remember what happened next, only that he’s back home with said children and covered in blood. Oh and everything smells of smoke.
… And apparently there’s more of these things dotted around Crime Alley with the rest of these kids, er, siblings? Family? Fright does mean family? Okay kids, he’s not turning into Bruce but you can stay here while he deals with this… however long that takes.
He better not be turning into Bruce he swears-

Children that would have been: Pineshade & Owlfang
Tumblr media
Pineshade had been Rainstar's apprentice, and Owlfang his younger brother.
The two had found the dynamic hilarious. More often than not, Pinepaw would 'rat out' Rainbur's 'very unfair' punishments to Owlpaw, who would then try to scold the warrior. Sometimes he was serious, sometimes he found it too funny and could hardly get a word in. If Rainbur wasn't in a bad mood or the reason for Pinepaw's punishment wasn't too bad, he would cave in, if only to humour them.
The two had been best friends basically all their life, but they had only been mates for one moon before Owlfang asked about kits. Pineshade was nervous at first, unsure what kind of mother she would make.
But if she hadn't disappeared, she would have come around to the idea and the two would have a single, beautiful daughter.
Owlfang wouldn't have blamed himself for making her run away with his kit questions--something the whole Clan believed for a long time, thanks to Myrtlewing's 'StarClan visits' that told a story of Pineshade leaving to become a kittypet.
Owlfang would have been celebrating the news of becoming a father, instead of searching the maze of the Twolegplace, ready to beg Pineshade to come back and losing hope every day he failed to find her.
They would have been thinking up names for their future little ones. Owlfang wouldn't have had his neck split open by a broken nail board while looking through yet more gardens, and Pineshade would have been a little anxious for the arrival of their kits instead of watching as her mate searched endlessly for someone that wasn't there, for someone who was dead, and her heart would have been bursting with joy instead of shattering over and over again.
Kit name: ?? (what do you think it would be?)

but this touya 🥺 he's sitting at the kitchen table too early in the morning, awake because your ex-boyfriend is coming to pick up your daughter for their father's day out. touya is half-asleep in his cheerios, only grunting out a response when your daughter asks him questions, bright and cheery, laughing too loud when she pokes and prods him and he grabs her hands up in his own and tickles her.
when the doorbell rings, she's scooping up her backpack and unzipping it quickly, slapping a folded up piece of paper on the table before running off around the corner. you follow her, exchange some pleasantries with her dad, wish him a happy father's day, give your daughter a hug and tell her you'll see her in a few days.
she stands in the doorway and shouts, loud, the high pitch in her voice echoing off the ceiling. "bye dabi!" and when he says it in return, she ends with, "i love you!"
(you don't miss the twist of your ex-boyfriends lips, his clear disaste for touya souring his expression.)
(you don't miss touya's hesitant pause from the kitchen, his voice scratchy and low when he calls back, "love you, too, kid.")
after she's gone, you mosey on back to the kitchen to see him leaning over whatever she'd left him; a piece of construction paper, colorful and a bit messy and crinkled, but all her nonetheless.
it's a picture of she and touya as little stick figures, him much too tall, hair dark and spiky. in between them, you think, is a drum-set, a call-back to the time he'd brought her to the bar he works at before it opened, during the day, and he'd let her bang around on all the instruments and be as loud as she'd wanted.
happy fathers day i love you is written across the top in bright pink, a little hard to read, but there regardless. touya stares at it quietly, only coming back to life after you run a hand over his back gently.
"mom's gonna lose it when she sees this," he murmurs quietly, shaking his head as if the idea is ridiculous.
but you don't miss his quiet sniff, the way he clears his throat before carefully folding the paper back into place, keeping it held tightly in his fist.

in the modern au would they adopt?
There's been talk of this a couple of times before and I'm still on the fence about it myself. I think Vasco likes the idea of fatherhood and would have children if given the choice. Machete doesn't hate children but is strongly unnerved and doesn't know how to deal with them. So the odds of them agreeing to initiate the adoption process aren't promising, but if they, by some random chance, found themselves responsible for a child, it's entirely possible they would grow very attached to the kid and excel as parents.

Eonwe / Relations with men
Eonwe bows before Elros on the island of Numenor which has newly risen from the sea.
As the herald of Manwe he stayed with the Edain to help them establish their new realm close to Valinor. At the dawn of the second age a Maia of Manwe saw the rise of the line of Elros. And at its end Eonwe mourned the land and people brought to ruin by Sauron, who had escaped him during the war of wrath.
