Ghost helps Riot decorate the Christmas tree at the base.

“It’s too tall.”

“Or, maybe you’re too short.”

Riot shifts her gaze from the Christmas tree to Ghost. He doesn’t regard her back, yet she knows there’s a smile underneath that mask—one of those triumphant, snarky, arrogant, ‘i-got-her-again’ grins.

“Behave, Lieutenant,” she warns. “I’m 1.70, in case you didn’t read my file.”

“Congratulations to the whole 1.70 of you,” he replies and playfully pats her head. “With or without the shoes?”

Riot rolls her eyes and swats his hand away. “Can you just get me the ornament boxes from the warehouse?” She asks.

“You have to be more specific, love,” He says. “The warehouse is a two thousand square meter void filled with cardboard boxes.”

“I don’t have the coordinates, Ghost.” She replies, smirking. “You can ask Gaz whether he planted a GPS tracker in them or, here’s a better idea: how about you search for the boxes labelled as ‘Xmas’?”

Now, he’s the one rolling his eyes. He murmurs a “how unique” and walks to the door to fulfil her request.

While waiting for Ghost to find and retrieve the boxes, Riot tests the new Christmas lights they bought by plugging them into the socket. Once she confirms they work, she starts wrapping them around the tree. Although the task appears to be assigned to just the two of them, it took all five—including the captain who gave the roles—to make it happen.

Gaz chose the tree and bought extra ornaments, then Soap measured its dimensions, ensuring enough lights to cover it. Once aligned, they raked the entire base to decide on the perfect spot. Their prerequisites? It had to be a place where everyone could see it and would do it justice. Unfortunately, they couldn’t agree on a specific location, so they met in the middle and decided to place the tree in the mess hall, the exact same spot it was last year. And the year before it. And the year before it.

Then, it was up to Ghost to carry the tree, and the captain instructed him to help Riot with the “heavy-duty” tasks. Now, all that’s left is for Riot to decorate it.

“I still don’t get why you get to decorate.” Ghost says, placing the boxes on the floor. “Why are we doing chores like measuring and carrying boxes while you get the fun stuff?”

“Because whoever did it last year did a terrible job,” she retorts, emphasising ‘whoever’ and handing Ghost a light strip to continue up to the top. “You guys didn’t even shuffle the decorations. Not to mention that the back was empty.”

“Nobody sees the back,” Ghost argues.

“You don’t?” Riot smirks.

“Nobody sees the back of the tree,” Ghost corrects.

“Well, I do,” she replies, pointing at the top of the tree, “and go a little bit lower over there.”

“Like that?” he asks.

“Like that,” she confirms.

After finishing the light placement, Ghost sits on the sofa. He takes an ornament shaped like a candy cane from one of the boxes and starts playing with it. Riot, on the other hand, gets straight to the job. She opens the boxes and grabs two ornaments. She places one on the tree, removes it and tries the other. She concludes on the latter. She turns around to search the boxes for more ornaments and catches Ghost fiddling with the candy cane.

“You can go if you’re bored,” she says. “I won’t finish anytime soon.”

“That I figured,” he murmurs under his breath, making Riot instinctively place her hands on her waist. He lets a sharp chuckle and shakes his head. “I’m alright here.” He assures her.

But of course, where else would he be alright if not here?

Time passes quickly. Ghost and Riot reminisce about their past Christmases—childhood festivities, memorable Boxing Day gifts, favourite holiday foods, and the annual movies that defined each season. Yet, these beautiful memories end at a certain point unique to each. Maybe those memories have faded away, or perhaps they have purposefully chosen to let them go. And when that happens, when they approach that personal boundary, they stop dwelling on those past celebrations and turn to each other, to the present, to fill them with joy.

Sometimes, Riot shows Ghost different ornaments, and he either picks one or dismisses the options with a casual “whatever” or “there’s no difference.” Other times, Ghost critiques her progress, giving feedback while she decorates. He points out areas needing more attention or playfully suggests she’s gone overboard elsewhere. In return, Riot replies with a firm yet joking, “Go on; you do it then”, and shuts him up.

She lifts one final piece into the air and shows it to Ghost—the Christmas tree topper.

“Seems that I’m too short to reach the top,” she pouts.

“Nonsense,” he whispers and stands up. “It’s the tree that’s too tall.”

He walks towards her, grabs her waist, and lifts her up.

“Now I get why the captain assigned me for the heavy-duty stuff,” he says.

“Drop me, and I’ll stick you up there instead of the topper.” She warns him, chuckling. “Take one more step forward, please.”

Ghost does as told, and Riot places the topper at the top. She adjusts it and lightly taps Ghost’s hand to put her down. They take a few steps back and marvel at the result.

“What do you think?” Riot asks, still looking at the tree.

“Seems alright.” Ghost shrugs. “Should we turn the lights on?”

“No,” Riot replies. “I want all of them to be here when we do it.”

He turns to look at her and nods. She meets his gaze and smiles.

“Thank you for lifting me up.” She says.

“No,” he replies. “Thank you for lifting me up.”

A little piece for @gamergirlbonestaskforce141riot of her OC, Christine "Riot" Vega. I try my best to stay true to what the character looks like and the general attire. I had to draw the facial scar, since I don't own the morph to make it. I think it looks realistic… hard to tell with your own work. Though, I think their outfits look fantastic. Ghost is always in black, so I thought I'd break it up just a bit.

“Papa! Papa!!”  

Nikolai turned his head as he heard his little precious princess running up towards him with a little paper plane in her hand. ”Look what дядя Krueger made for me!!” she jumped up and down excitedly.

“Krueger.” Nikolai raised his eyebrow,amused at the news of his daughter's unlikely playmate. 

“дядя Krueger, he’s really good!! He said he’s going to fold more for me!” 

“Is he now?” Nikolai jumped down from the top of the helicopter, wiping his hand with a rag before sitting down and waving his daughter over, taking a break from fixing his trusty flying machine.

Anya happily blabbering about what other activities her Tetya and Dyadya had been doing with her. Zhar always lets her sit beside her in the office and draws on scrap pieces of paper, Yuri always follows Anya as she goes around the base,keeping an eye on her in case she runs into trouble. Now Krueger seems to take a liking to the little girl. 

His little Princess really has the Chimera wrapped around her little fingers. 

Just like how her Ma had him. 

His two beloved birds. 

The two treasures nearly got stolen from him. 

Devastating mistakes he vow not to ever happen again. 

Nikolai still has nightmares of the day he found the house full of dead bodies and trails of blood. 

Anya’s trembling and traumatised face.

The day he felt everything was taken away from him.

“...And тётя Olga was yelling at дядя Krueger for being a bampot!!” Anya giggled. 

“mmm, did she now?” Nikolai replied absentmindedly, patting his daughter’s head. 

“… Papa, you are not listening!” Anya pouted as she poked Nikolai, annoyed at her Papa. She adjusted herself to finding a more comfortable position before continuing her report on what she had been up to.

“Oh Papa! can you please take me for a ride in your new plane next time?” Anya begged. “дядя Krueger said you are getting new gears for the team! I want to go for a ride too!” 

Nikolai looked down at her daughter. This girl has a strange fixation on flying machines from the time she was born, and it doesn’t help that her uncle and aunties have been giving her toys that are related to helicopters and aeroplanes and everything military like. 

Without doubt Anya IS his daughter. 

“Now Anya, just remember, don’t throw your Uncle Gaz out of the helicopter like your Papa did –” Gaz warned the little three month old baby as he put more of his newly crocheted dolls and planes into her cot. 

“Gaz,I seriously don’t think you need to worry about that…” 

“Just yet. Who knows. Not saying this cute little bub will do it but.. If he is indeed her father’s daughter….”

“Gaz…”

“But…”

“Please Papa….” Anya battered her round puppy like eyes, tears gathering. He sighed. He just couldn’t say no to her. “Alright. Remember you have to…”

“Listen to everything Papa tells me to do. I know.” Anya jumped up and gave her father a big hug and a kiss. “Thank you papa. Oh There’s Ma!” Anya turned her head and ran across the room as she spotted you slowly waddling into the hanger.  

“Ma! Papa said he will take me for a ride next time in the new plane!!” Anya announced the news excitedly to you as she took your hand and carefully led you to sit down beside Nikolai.

You look at your husband, silently asking the question. He just laughed and shook his head. 

“You really can’t say no to her, can you?” You chuckled as you lean against your husband, swatting his creeping hand away from your ass. “You dote on her too much.”

“How can you say no to that sweet little face?” Nikolai replied innocently, settling his hand around your waist instead, and gently running his hand on your raised bump. “I would give everything to keep that sweet smile on her face.” and to keep the happiness on YOUR face.

“Everything?” 

“Everything.” Except for letting her take over Chimera. She deserves a world without violence from what she has seen from a young age.

Nikolai watches as Anya spotted another Chimera soldier walking into the hangar and ran towards them to show off her paper planes.

“Well, even if Vitaly says he wants to marry Anya?” you joked. 

Nikolai’s face dropped as soon as he heard the name. “Well DID HE NOW.” he growled. 

“Nik. he’s only four years old. I don’t think you need to worry about your daughter being taken away by the boy so soon.” you try to sooth your husband’s sour mood. “Besides, are you sure you want to take a toddler’s word so seriously?” 

“I don’t like the boy.”

“Just because who his father is?” you frowned. “Nik. We’ve been over this. He is in good hands now. He isn’t going to cause any more harm to anyone else. You know Mylène will make sure of it.”

Nikolai stayed silent.

“Besides, You know Chris will be the first one to go after him and the boy if anything happens.” you spoke up again as you patted your husband’s chest. 

“Maybe I should train my son to ward off anyone who comes near his sister..”

“Nik. I haven’t even given birth yet.” You deadpanned. 

“Forward planning.”

“Can you please not.” you sighed. “Maybe you should use your time to plan for more useful things…” 

“It is useful. Planning for the well-being of my daughter’s future.” Nikolai snorted. 

“Or spend a bit more time thinking about your wife’s happiness too.” you cock an eyebrow, toying with his gold chain.

Nikolai immediately took the hint.

“Anya!” He yelled across the room. Anya turned around, halting her conversation with the soldier. “Go to your тётя Olga’s office, Papa and Ma will be a bit busy until dinner time…”

Zhar ended up babysitting Anya until the next morning.

I'm feeling a bit down with life and my fic so I thought I'd request something about them to cheer me up. Of course feel free to not answer or not do it, it's perfectly ok!

If you decide to do it, I'd prefer something fluff/smut (smutty fluff? fluffy smutt? :D ). My fic is a slow burn and although there are signs (and I have their first kiss already written), I'd love to see something with them already established. In my head, although both are deeply traumatised (both having undergone torture and lost their families) their relationship is surprisingly healthy.

The Lieutenant and the Sergeant, a duo known for their fierceness in battle and for taking out targets before they even saw what was coming. Whispers flowed through the ranks of the two masked soldiers and Price smiled when he heard them. Although he had only taken her on due to the praise of Soap, she had quickly proven herself to be worthy of marching alongside the 141.

Along with the rumors of their position, whispers also floated around about their trysts outside of the unit. At first, it started with crude comments from all genders about their relationship status but soon they divulged into some observations keen recruits made. "Did you see Lt. Riley has a ring as a necklace? I saw it yesterday in training." "Nah how about Sgt. Vega, look at her left hand there's a tan line from having a ring on it." While their relationship was only known to their squad, it was clear that everyone had some suspicions.

Simon and Christine didn't care, they both had experienced the crude gossip in their time. What many people got wrong was the idea that Riot and Ghost had 1. been married for years and 2. were lovesick puppies on and off base. Ever since they first met, Christine and Simon were both content with a relationship that was slow, painstakingly slow. Even when the idea of marriage was proposed, it seemed like a formality as they acted as one unit together. They also both were not ones to put their entire love story on display, if you were a recruit you would just think they were close colleagues.

Regardless of all of that, Simon and Christine did share some tender moments while on leave. Most of the time, it was filled with silence and reading as they struggled to adjust to a calm home instead of an active warzone.

As Christine finished another chapter of her book, she closed it gently and laid herself on Simon’s chest. She held his face gently as she saw his dark eyes flick around the words on the page. The sun shone into the room and she admired the way he looked in this light. His hair and stubble appeared perfect against his skin and she ran her fingers along his chin. He placed a protective hand on her back and continued to read his novel. “Do you ever get bored of this routine?” Christine asked and Simon glanced down at his wife. “Can’t say that I do,” he replied curtly and went back to whatever chapter he was on.

“Simon, let’s do something spontaneous,” she suggested and quickly grabbed the book out of his large hands. He looked at her questioningly as she thought of a nice activity for them. She peered at the window and noticed the sun shining brilliantly in the England spring warmth and decided on her plan. “A picnic,” she whispered. “You can’t be serious,” he replied as he looked at her incredulously. She only nodded in response and went to their bedroom to change.

Christine’s closet was barren, only having a few outfits and such. That wasn’t a surprise for both her and Simon as soldiers tended to travel light. She flipped through a couple of options before she found what she was looking for. A scarlet red sundress. The reddened linen contrasted with her skin perfectly and it was something she wasn’t used to wearing. She pulled it out gently and inspected it for any wrinkles. Finding none, she changed into the fabric and examined herself in the mirror. It had been a dress she wore on one of her first “dates” with Simon and it still fit perfectly against her muscular form.

She smoothed out the ankle length dress and smiled at herself. As she turned to walk to the kitchen, Simon was standing in the door frame. “Fucking hell!” she yelled as she was caught by surprise. She took a gasp of breath as Simon stared at her, a new hunger in his eyes. He looked like a bull as he eyed the red fabric lustfully. “I have a better idea than the picnic,” he said and slowly closed the door behind him.

Christine slowly approached him and they met in front of the bed. He quickly went to grab her waist and bring him closer to her. “I love that color on you,” he said, huskily, and gently kissed her. What started as a soft moment eventually divulged into a whirlwind of hungry kisses and muffled moans. Christine’s hands flew to Simon’s back as she tugged gently on his grey t-shirt. He similarly grabbed her thighs and explored the exposed area underneath her dress. After breathless moments, he held on to her thighs and picked her up to place her on the bed.

As Christine eyed her husband, he looked at her splayed on their duvet. Her blonde hair laid perfectly on the cream sheets and her dress added a sensual pop of color to the bed. He took off his shirt to reveal his chiseled figure as Christine eyed him lustfully. He gently got on top of her and moved the hem of her dress to reveal her dripping to his touch.

“May I?” he asked and she flirtatiously pushed his head lower and lower. She gasped when Simon teasingly blew cold air on her flushed core and pushed her long legs together in response. “I want to see all of you, Doll,” he commanded and put his hands on her ankles to expose her.

He slowly got on his knees and pulled her thighs to the edge of the bed. Christine was shocked at the action but Simon left her little time to recover. Random Facts:

She built most of their house herself to impress her new wife.

Raul is one of her best friends, and someone she travels with frequently even after the NCR takes Vegas. He didn’t believe she’d married a ghoul until she showed him one of her most prized possessions: a photograph from their wedding (he argued it was because he couldn’t believe anyone would want to marry her if they had any other options, not because he didn’t think a ghoul and a smoothskin could work as a couple)

Prior to discovering the Big MT, she was functionally blind (glasses helped some, but the riot gear helmet was the only thing that really did anything for her). She lost her sight from cataracts that developed when she was 35, but she kept on going (it just made her more legendary). The Auto-Doc in the Sink managed to give her back most of her vision (she’s still nearsighted, though), but her eyes still look cloudy, even if she can see.

The merge between the Rangers had nothing to do with her retirement, though she begrudgingly admitted that she’d been worried the NCR Rangers were gonna bring down that historic title of Desert Ranger with disgrace, but they turned out to be just as tough as any of the old guard (of which Novak is one of the last)

Her name came from a book that her father used to read, it was the last name of one of the characters.

She knew the Survivalist back when he was a Ranger

Her family has always had Rangers in it--her father, uncle, grandmother, grandfather, great-grandfather... She can trace her lineage in the Rangers back to the Great War, and likely even further.

She met Ida when she was 20 in a saloon in one of the villages outside Zion Canyon, where Ida was tending bar and Novak was posted as a freshly-minted Desert Ranger. Ida didn’t believe Novak was genuinely interested in a ghoul, but Novak was persistent and got Ida to agree to a night out. They got married a year later and lived in a motel-turned-apartments for half a year while Novak rebuilt/renovated a homestead for her wife.

Ida and Novak never formally intended to adopt any children, but kids who needed homes kept appearing, and neither of them were cruel enough to turn away someone who needed their help (and, Novak argued, they had plenty of space in their home, they could share). Now they have a grandkid who calls Novak Nana and Ida Abuela.

You clutch the plate of freshly baked chocolate biscuit in your hand as you stare up at the three women standing in front of you in awe.

“Christmas gathering?”

“I thought it might be a good idea to get everyone together before the baby comes.” Kyle said as he assembled the baby cot. “I talked to your mum and dad. They are happy to host the early Christmas party at their farm before everyone breaks off. Ah there. Done.” Gaz dusts his hand as he finishes putting the last screw in, and holds out his hand to help you stand up, pulling you into his embrace.

“And there are new people I want you to meet as well. Our lovely new Dutch Medic, she’s quite excited to meet you since I told her about the baby news.” he kisses you in the temple as both of you look around, surveying the newly set up nursery. “And Nikolai has been bugging me about wanting to bring his new partner along. He's eager to show her off.”

Your eyes brighten up. “Is Simon bringing his new girlfriend too?” you asked excitedly.

Ever since your Ma heard “the poor man has no family left to celebrate the holiday with” she made sure Johnny always brought Simon back to the farm to join in on all the family holidays.

First time he arrives at the farm, Simon grumbles about how he wants to be alone for holidays,but as soon as your Ma greets him, his demeanour changes immediately.

“Ah, you must be Simon that my two little bampot kids talked about so much!! Welcome home!! ” she exclaimed, pulling Simon down to give him a big welcoming hug.

“”Ma!!”” Johnny and you groaned at the affectionate name calling from your own mother but stopped when the two of you saw Simon returning the hug, with tears streaming down his face, with Ma giving Simon a soft pat on his back.

“Sounds like it. Soap and I were pressuring him to introduce her to the family. Your Mum said she needs to approve his future daughter in law.” Gaz laughed.

So here you are, not quite sure how to start the conversation with the three elite soldiers, while the others have scattered off to mingle after all the initial greetings and quick catch up.

“Um….. Chocolate biscuits? Freshly out of the oven?” you offered timidly.

Petra.. Or she introduced herself as Mylène, took a step forward and grabbed a piece of biscuit off the plate.

“ Oh gosh …you don’t know how much I’ve been craving for these biscuits since Soap shared some with us last time..” She moaned as she took a big bite of it. “Oh these are even better, fresh....come on girls, grab one!”

Christine, who’s been very quiet, her eyes lit up and hesitantly reached for one. Her eyes fluttered close as she sighed.

“Good right? I told you.”

“I thought you were exaggerating. Olga. Come on. Try some.” Christine picked up another two, passed one more towards Olga. She hummed as a small smile appeared on her face, nibbling on the biscuit without saying a word.

You let out a small sigh, you were glad they liked the biscuits. You would be lying if you say you weren’t intimidated by three of them. You heard so much story about these amazing women from Kyle leading up to the party, with all the achievements on and off fields, you felt so… ordinary compared to them.

“Um, Coffee? Tea? Simon brewed the tea… so it should be good.” You offered, trying hard to come up with topics to break the ice. You huffled as you moved around the kitchen table trying to serve them the drinks with difficulty with your very pregnant stomach. The ladies all stood up immediately to help.

“Oh thank you.. sorry, it’s getting harder and harder for me to move around as this little pea pod grows..” you puffed out as you sat down on the chair that Olga had pulled out, insisted you to sit down while they help themselves with the refreshments.

“Oh talk about baby… Since Gaz mentioned the two of you were expecting, we all brought some gifts for you and the baby. ” Mylène clapped her hand, and waved to the other ladies to bring in the gifts from the living room.

Your eyes widen at the amount of gifts the ladies started to pile onto the table.

“That… this…” you gaped.

“All for your new family. Come on, open it up!” Mylène urged as she pointed towards the bags and boxes.

You reach for the four different colour bags first, all filled to the brim with different assortments clothes.

“ Each of the bags are clothe from age zero to two years old.” Mylène explained.

“Till two years old?!” you gasped as you took a peek into each of them. “That’s… that’s too much!”

“Nonsense. I know how fast the baby grows and the amount of clothes and stuff they go through. If you need any more things, don’t hesitate to contact me. Gaz got my number.” She reaches forward to give you a hug, reassuring you.

“And if you need anyone to babysit or a bodyguard for the baby, I can lend you my brother. Emiel will make sure no harm come to your baby if he were to look after them with his scary look.” She offered her brother’s service proudly.

“Uh, thank you??” You thanked her for her offer, trying to imagine the tall assassin with a baby carrier as you reached for the next lot of presents.

You open the second parcel, presents from Olga and Nikolai, and a very intricate Matryoshka doll and……helicopter and aeroplane plushie?

“Nik insisted on getting those.”Olga sighed. “ Saying something about.. The baby should know how her Dad and her Russian uncle’s friendship was strengthened.”

“It’s very important for them to know the story!!” Nikolai shouted from the other side of the room. Olga just rolled her eyes. You chuckled as you put it aside. “Thank you for your beautiful gifts. I was actually thinking what to put on the shelves in the nursery, these will be very fitting. Thank you. Oh! There's another little box..”as soon as you open the wooden box, a little ballerina pops up with a lullaby playing.

It’s a custom made musical box, you realised.

“Nikolai had it specially made for your little one. He originally wanted some rendition of heavy metal band music, I had to intervene and choose something more appropriate.” Olga covered her face with all the wild ideas her husband coming up with, embarrassed.

“Thank heaven you did. I think the lullaby might settle the baby down more than.. “ you laughed as you closed the lid again and leaned forward to give Olga a hug.

Finally you turned towards the blonde lady. Christine hands you two big square parcels, and wrangles her hand as you open up the wrapping paper.

You pulled out a few knitted baby clothes, hand knitted, simple but made with care. And a few warm knitted blankets too.

“You made these?” You inspect each of the clothes and design, noticing each of the onsies pairs with a blanket. A SET!. “Oh these teddy bear patterns on the blanket and the onsies.. ah! The sunflower pattern on these ones… and Stars… so cute!” You cooed.

Christine nodded her head hesitantly, “Soap mention you were going to spend the first few months after birth with the baby in Scotland, Considering how long the winter goes on for up here,I thought might be a good idea … “ she trailed off. Your smile widened and pulled her in for a hug, “ it’s a very thoughtful gift… Thank you. And to all of you as well.” You turned towards the other two, thanking them again.

“Soap couldn’t shut up about how much he is looking forward to his future niece and how much he is going to spoil her, while that husband of yours, every spare moment he’s got, he’s writing down plans for the nursery, ideas for future outings, and way of organising routines to give YOU the optimal resting time.” Mylène chuckled.

“Simon has been giving out ideas of how the team can help with babysitting duties to give you two new parents a bit of breather.” Christine added. “I don’t think he likes to admit it, but he really cares about you as a little sister.” She smiled.

“ You should see Nik.. he is already pressing me to design some sort of self defence lessons for the baby. “Olga shakes her head, exasperated at her husband’s antics.

“Three of us agree, we felt like we know you already, from all the stories we hear from the boys, the love they have for you, how well you treat them, you deserve all the kindness in the world.” Petra said.

You blinked your eyes few times, trying not to tear up from the touching words and gestures. You were still in awe how generous the ladies are with all their gifts, and you never met them before. “I just want you all to know… all of you are always welcome here, anytime. The men are always like an extended family to us, and in term, all of you are welcome to the family too. “

And after this, it became a tradition for everyone to gather at the MacTavish farm at least once a year.
