3k - A celebration!
Hey there, guys and gals!
Tumblr media
TLDR: There's a poll at the bottom asking which story deserves a sequel!
Today is a very special day, at least to me. After a little more of one year posting stories to Tumblr, I have reached the absolutely staggering number of 3000 followers. During this time, I have posted about 100 stories with a unbelievable (and I kid you not) 33,333 likes and reblogs. Yes, this is the exact number at the time of writing this post. Yes, I wrote a program to look that up and the number is accurate.
Let me just say: Wow. And thank you. 3000 of you found my writing enjoyable enough to want me in their feed. And there were exactly 33,333 times in the past year-and-a-bit that someone actually *liked* what they saw/read/skimmed over. I couldn't feel more honored, really.
As a celebration, I am going to do something I usually don't (even though I have been asked a couple of times): I will write a sequel or prequel or related story to one of those stories YOU liked most. Remember the program I wrote to find out my total number of notes? Yeah, the original function was to find out the stories with the most notes. Out of the top six of those, I will let you chose the one story you want to see more of. Additionally (although it is only at rank 10), as a seventh option I'll add "Your wish is my command", since that is the story I have received the most sequel requests. So, without further lamenting, here are the stories!
#1: 11:48
#2: Boyfriend Material
#3: ATArena
#4: Spice Up
#5: Beating Recession
#6: Calling the Plumber
#7: Your Wish is my Command
So! Which one is it going to be? Choose wisely!
That's it from my side for today. Stay awesome!

Don't mind me, just talking about Shadow as being on the autistic spectrum, and how his portrayal in the games and anime (before 2010s era) reflected this even if it was never outright stated.
Tumblr media
(TIME FOR A CHARACTER ANALYSIS ABOUT SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG)
When I was in high school, I struggled a lot in social situations, I'd go completely stiff and just watch people. I had a "resting bitch face", I never really could have conversations and seemed to just fixate on things. I'd make observations that irritated people. I'd ask "why" a lot. (Asking why or even asking 'obvious' questions seemed to make people think I was questioning their judgment, or that I was challenging them. But no, I just didn't understand and wanted clarification. I still run into this a lot and I wish people would stop assuming I have ulterior motives. I just wanna understand stuff better cause it doesn't connect for me. Even if it seems obvious. I'm the genius that asked my mom why she was crying at her dad's funeral when I was 11. It's not that I didn't understand why Grandpa was gone, I knew he passed away, but it hadn't really landed for me, and my brain registered my mom's sadness before it registered the why.)
I didn't like small talk (still don't) and would rather every interaction have a specific purpose. You'd never catch me at a party and I didn't think drinking or drugs looked fun or interesting. The act of rebelling didn't interest me either. The few interests I did have were something I'd always go back to, and I couldn't function without them. (For me, drawing has always been a huge part of my life and if I didn't have a pencil or pen and paper, then I couldn't hear. I know, very weird. If I were doodling or just even had my sketchbook open, I could study a lot easier. In High school, my teachers started telling me to put the sketchbook away, and my grades plummeted because my attention did, too. Trying to tell them just kind of led to the same old "well everyone else can't doodle so you can't either". I wasn't in any of the special ed stuff because I guess I masked too well.)
Sonic 06 and Sonic X have the same characterization for Shadow, especially in Japanese, and I think that's honestly the best he'd ever been-- he's quiet, he's reserved, he observes and he doesn't like to "waste time". Not because he's edgy, not because he's a jerk or too serious, but because he struggles in social situations and he's more introverted. He doesn't want to be the centre of attention, he doesn't enjoy any of that. Shadow also behaves like an adult, and I'm sure a ton of us on the spectrum have heard that before, that we're very mature for our age. In reality, we can't relate with our peers and have very fixated interests that don't really expand to other things. Limited interests and we just wanna do stuff tied to that. We know so much about that one thing or those things, but those things won't get you ahead in school. Unless you're LUCKY and your fixation is math, oy vey! (My fixation was etymology. I loved learning and knowing where words came from. Useful for 2 seconds in English class, quickly loses its usefulness in a skill-oriented world.)
I don't even think he's naturally boastful, at least he wasn't since SA2 (when he was an antagonist), but Sonic brings out a competitive side in him. Sonic brings out the childhood-self that he lost to trauma and being sealed away. Shadow never got to be a normal kid/adult. He has always had expectations placed on him. I think Sonic really brings out a side of him that even surprises himself. It's why he will even say very often "What am I doing?" or "This is such a waste of time!" but he won't STOP… Because he's having fun and doesn't know how to describe his own feelings. Shadow's the type who'll say "I'm fine" no matter what state he's in when you ask if he's okay. My spouse is like this actually-- I can often tell when he's feeling down, but he doesn't know how to describe emotions beyond functional things like "i'm healthy" or "i'm unhealthy", so he'll say he's fine even if he's having a melancholy day. I struggle with understanding my emotional responses, but not necessarily identifying them. A lot of people on the spectrum do struggle with identifying their emotions beyond empirical things. "Do I feel sick? No? then I'm fine" Shadow is exactly like this. And because his expression is so neutral, sometimes intense, he gets mistaken as being angry or too serious. In reality, he's just standing there. He's not gonna expend energy smiling when he's got nothing to smile about. Why force yourself to emote for people? Especially if it feels unnatural.
Another thing about Shadow being autistic is if he's got nothing to say, then he won't say it. If he wants to leave, he'll leave. Good luck stopping him! But for many actual people it's not an option to leave. We can't just teleport out or skate at lightning speeds like he can, so we have to just sit there and do little coping or self soothing methods to keep ourselves in the moment and calm. We don't often see Shadow stimming in traditionally understood ways, like lip biting or rubbing his arms or fidgeting with his fingers-- but he often stands with his arms crossed. This CAN BE a stim. Feeling the weight of your arms on top of each other, it allows for you to be aware of your own body. I fold my arms a lot in public, because I'm usually playing with the hem of my sleeves, or I'm rubbing my arms or squeezing them. Shadow doesn't seem to do any of that but he's rarely seen without his arms folded.
When his arms aren't folded, he stands so still and just stares at people. He looks completely out of his element. He doesn't seem to have a relaxed stance--until the anime, where he's shown standing with his hand on his hip. Rouge also does this, leading to the popular headcanons that Shadow is unintentionally imitating Rouge-- his masking leads him to identify the most 'normal' person in the room and copy their behavior in order to blend in better. Unfortunately it rarely, in my experience, leads to people NOT thinking I'm weird. Sometimes I'll even start imitating speech patterns or accents and BOY. I don't even realize I'm doing it until it HAPPENS. So embarrassing. But Shadow absolutely imitates everyone around him. We can see him do this even as far back as Sonic Heroes--that scene where he's nodding or shaking his head to whatever Rouge is saying. The scene where Sonic starts getting competitive and Shadow starts kind of imitating his posture and his way of speaking to become competitive with them-- I don't even think he realizes he's doing it. But it also makes sense with his NAME.
His name is Shadow. I think of Peter Pan, where Peter's Shadow can sometimes get away from him. Usually it does everything he does, but sometimes it gets away and does its own things, and Peter has to catch it. Wendy sews the shadow back on in Hook. I think Shadow's name is referencing that as well, that just like a shadow, he mimics those around him. He's watching over them, but also copying them. Learning to blend in.
Another moment I adore is in SA2 (and Sonic X) when Amy Rose hugs him from behind. According to the 2010s era and early IDW, you'd have expected Shadow to push her away or yell DONT TOUCH ME or whatever. But no, he actually just goes REALLY RIGID and doesn't even say anything. It isn't until Amy realizes her mistake that Shadow turns around to look at her, smiling like 'What are you doing???' But in Sonic X, they changed this scene further into autistic territory--
Shadow doesn't even TURN to her. He goes rigid, yes, and his eyes widen and he just stands there looking towards the audience like 8| He's completely OUT OF HIS ELEMENT. He prepared for the mission, NOT to deal with random people HUGGING HIM. He's probably not been hugged since Maria over 50 years ago. We don't even know if Maria hugged him much because Shadow has always seemed pretty touch-averse. I love GIVING hugs and I love receiving hugs but only from people I'm REALLY close to. I don't even like getting hugs from extended family. My spouse? VERY touch averse. He'll get hugs from me but hugging and touch are just not his thing. Shadow is not a huggy person, but he does tend to hold hands.
We know he grabbed and held Maria's hand, running with her-- but we never actually saw that until Sonic X (2003) he can be seen running with her away from the military, and he's holding her hand as he leads her. In Shadow the Hedgehog, Maria often grabs Shadow's hand when telling him things. This is also a grounding method to bring the person into the moment. For me, I feel like I can focus better on what my spouse is saying to me when he holds my hand and it's crowded or busy. Even in our home, if he wants to tell me something, I recommend that he hold my hand or touch my arm so I can focus on him better. This happens with Shadow.
Sonic doesn't tend to hold peoples' hands. In Sonic X he usually just picks people up, but we do see him grab Elise's arm in 06 and run with her. But holding hands? Not really his thing! Shadow does do it more often though. In Sonic X S3, in the episode, Molly's Dream, Shadow's immediate way of leading Molly away from danger is to grab and hold her hand. He even keeps holding her hand until she lets go. It speaks to me the sort of childlike behavior he may still be exhibiting, but not that I'm trying to say that autistic people are more like children. From my experience on the spectrum, I am more childish than my peers. I still react like a kid might to things, and I don't really think like an adult is expected to. I am mentally behind my peers as well, I think my emotional maturity is lower? But it's hard to measure that without a doctor. It's not just about laughing at fart jokes or knowing to pay bills, it's like, how I problem solve is more creatively aligned with kids than it is adults. This is both great and terrible, depending on the situation. A situation that requires math and stuff cannot be solved my way. A situation that involves encouraging kids to try again or be nice to each other, well it's very useful because I can communicate with them on their level (I was a teacher in South Korea for over half a decade, my brain was great for being a teacher but not great for other things).
I think Shadow really gets misread as a mean guy a lot, but he really isn't. I also don't really enjoy the headcanons that imagine him as very outgoing and whimsical when he was on the ARK, and I especially don't like headcanons that infantilize him-- I really don't like headcanons where people infantilize autistic people. We've seen Shadow when he loses his memories a few times. In Heroes, but also in S3 of Sonic X-- his personality is still the same. He's still reserved, he's still quiet, he still struggles in social situations and prefers getting to the point rather than dilly-dallying. I'd argue that he was exactly like that before the incident on the ARK, too. It's just that the incident caused his inner peace to be destroyed. His precious person, Maria, was no longer around and he lost everything all at once. He doubled down on the one thing that made sense: Revenge. But even after all of that was sorted out, he's not gonna just magically be a different person. He's still reserved, he's still serious, he's still "get to the point". If he played FFXIV, he'd only focus on main quests, and never do side quests. He'd never spend money on cosmetics, probably. He's likely a person who values gameplay over story. If the game is broken or the mechanics aren't utilized well, that's probably more what he'd be fixated on than whether the story was good or not. He'd skip through dialogue because he reads fast, even if the dialogue is voiced (my spouse does this and it drives me nuts. SHADOW I BEG OF YOU PLEASE DO IT FOR ME, DISABLE THE VOICE ACTING IN OPTIONS SO I STOP HEARING THE FIRST UTTERANCE OF A WORD EVERY TIME U MASH THROUGH THE DIALOGUE)
Trauma affects people in all kinds of ways. I don't think all autistic people are like Shadow, because autism is a spectrum and no two people present exactly the same, although there will be similarities. Shadow's trauma happened at a time where he barely knew himself already, so that's why it was so easy for him to fixate on revenge, and then he'd be content with dying afterwards because he figured he had nothing left to live for. Finding out he was wrong was the best thing that could have happened to him.
I was really saddened when SEGA decided he was an edgelord who hated everything and had no friends because that's such a horrible read of this nuanced character. In my personal headcanons for Shadow, he's actually very into plants and flowers, because Maria loved the planet so much. And eventually he learns to love the planet because of nature. Shadow's never going to be a people person, in fact he probably still doesn't care much for people as a whole, but that doesn't mean he won't step up when they need his help. Which is why his line in Sonic 06 is still so poignant. "If the world chooses to become my enemy, then I'll fight like I always have." Basically, it really doesn't matter, I've made my choice, I know who I am now and I get to make those decisions. No one else will shake the foundations of who I am.
And because he knows who he is, he doesn't feel the need to repeat it and boast about himself. He's confident, not arrogant. He can be smug and competitive, but that's playfulness, not cruelty. He's quiet and may just straight up walk away while someone is mid-sentence, but that's not because he's evil or intentionally being a jerk-- it's just how he is. He needs to work on it if he wants to have friends, but his friends already understand him very well. They know that he's like that, and from what we saw in The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, occasionally they forget it's not personal. I'm happy to see them admitting "oh no, I completely misjudged you, I'm so sorry!" because it's been way too long since we've heard the main cast apologize to Shadow for assuming he was a big jerk on purpose.
Knowing the restrictions on how Shadow is written have been lifted, I'm really hoping we can get more of how he's meant to be, the reserved, socially awkward but well-meaning hedgehog we love. Autistic Shadow FTW!

(our experiences and headcanons
may differ, that's okay.)

Topological Spaces 11: Quotient Spaces
Like product spaces, quotient spaces are another way of creating new topological spaces out of old ones. In this case, we are putting a topology on equivalence classes of elements in the original space. I will be assuming knowledge of equivalence relations and equivalence classes, so here is the wikipedia page about them. Unlike for product spaces, not all of the properties of the original space will necessarily be inhereted by the quotient space.
Quotient spaces play a very important role in topology as they can be used to formalise the notion of "gluing" spaces together.
We will not make any reference to anything from the previous two posts so it is possible to read this one without them.
Definition 11.1:
Tumblr media
The topology we want to put on X/~ is one where U is open if it's preimage under the quotient map is open. The benefit of this is that we automatically get that the quotient map is continuous.
Proposition 11.2:
Tumblr media
Before we give an example we shall prove a useful result!
Proposition 11.3:
Tumblr media
Example 11.4:
Tumblr media
Remark: We technically haven't shown that restricting a continuous function results in a continuous function, however the proof is relatively easy.
Proposition 11.5:
Tumblr media
Remarks:
The converse to these are not true. Example 11.4 already provides a counterexample for compactness. For a counterexample to (path-)connectedness, let X be any space with two or more points which is not (path-)connected and let ~ be the equivalence relation x~y iff x∈X and y∈X. Then X/~ is the one pointed space, which is (path-)connected.
The same result does not hold for Hausdorffness and second countability. We don't have a result that says the continuous image of a Hausdorff/second countable space is Hausdorff/second countable so the same proof wouldn't apply. Whilst this doesn't prevent a different proof, it does key us into the fact that something else might be going on. The construction of counterexamples would require a bit more theory so are omitted but feel free to look them up for yourself!
We will see many more examples of quotient spaces in the next post, which is dedicated to a plethora of important examples of topological spaces!

Ya know what SIKE i'm just gonna answer all of these bc I wanna write smth
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yuu Shi
1. I- I have so many. There is a whole playlist dedicated to her, but if I had to pick ONE in specific, it'd be Thank God I'm Not You.... and Aishite Aishite Aishite as a close second with the bonus that her voice claim sang a cover of it- and Siren as a third. Im indecisive.
2. Cater Diamond! They share a similar sense of humor, and they go back and forth pretty easily, somewhat similar to her and Ace. However, Yuu Shi actually enjoys interacting on social media, texting, and spamming with horrid jokes or memes. They share similar family issues as well.
3. Vil Schoenheit. She disagrees with him regarding a large majority of his principles he stands so firmly by, but she also relates to him greatly. She looks up to him and wants to rival him simultaneously. Whether she is successful in that regard enters spoiler territory.
4. Bugs, spiders, and snakes. Shit gets wild with Jamil.
5. Music is her best class :D She used to attend a performing art school, so she is very familiar with all the assignments and is usually called on as an example.
6. Art. She can't draw for shit. The long process of improving at it also makes her want to crawl into a hole. Not good at something immediately? Abandon it! Thats her unhealthy motto.
7. Pop Music Club. I feel this is rather self explanatory(#5). Plus she really needed an electric guitar to borrow since she lost her own. Music in general helps keep her sane at NRC.
8. Leona Kingscholar. She wants to kick his ass so bad. She DESPISES him. Mostly out of fear, but she would never admit it. The first interaction with him in the botanical gardens really scares her.
9. Of the canon staff members it would be Mozus Trein actually. She finds history to be a rather easy subject, and she really likes his cat. There's really not any other reasons. She isn't a big fan of authority figures (if she isn't one of them).
10. Octavinelle! Pomefiore is a close second, with beauty being of high importance to her, but she doesn't go to the same lengths to maintain it.
11. Hooo she would never admit it, but most likely Riddle. She just wants him to break out of whatever chains his mother shackled him in. Maybe it is because she is projecting, or maybe it is because she actually has a soft spot. Maybe both.
12. Bean day >:) No magic? Sign her the fuck up. Any more details and I'd go into spoiler territory.
13. Again, Leona Kingscholar. She would get her shit wrecked in a fair fight.
14. She places pretty high in her class once she gets the hang of how the world functions. She has similar grades to Azul or Jade.
15. She holds a lot of secrets away from the other characters. The most obvious one is her real name.
16. Shameless TCOAV chapter one plug LMAO
17. She finds them bothersome. She dislikes how jumpy they make her feel, and even when they are kind she is apprehensive around them. Yuu prefers to avoid them.
18. The magic, for sure. Not only just the magic itself, but how it affects the environment around her. It was a serious culture shock at first.
19. No.
20. Hm. :)c a tie between book two and three. Wink wonk.

I am so so sorry, I tried reading your dni and about the system page but it's a bit much for me.
However I did read your studying for psychology, how many years of studying do you have? Does did effect your studies ?
So, I typed up a super long answer to this, and it's gone, and I haven't had the spoons to write it up again… but here we go.
That's totally good honey, it's there partly for our reference and for anyone curious. Literally no pressure to read it! We haven't got to university yet; on the condition we get accepted into the bachelors of psychology program, we'll be starting our psych degree in Feb 2025. Our system has had a burning interest in psychology, well, since we were a kid. We've always been fascinated by the human brain and why people act the way they do. Plus, when our mental health started (heavily) declining when the body was 11-13, we started reading and finding things that we're fascinated by. It'll be three years for our bachelor's of psych plus 3-5 years post graduate (masters, phD or post grad certi.) to become a clinical psychologist.
And yes. DID impacts our education.
[The above message was written by Amber (🔥), I'll take over from here - Kyle 💜]
As Amber said, it impacts our education, and heavily. Since discovering we are a system, we have realised there was a lot of knowledge that went unheard, and passed through the system without any recollection. It finally explained how I (we) would get wonderful marks in subjects I (we) don't remember participating in, particularly statistics/maths. Kaden, my brother, would front, complete the class and get amazing scores, while the rest of us were left scrambling in the dark wondering what happened. I was aware of our system far before our host was for about six years before I had the terminology to explain what I was experiencing. I remember how our host would get confused when they received high marks in statistics while remembering absolutely nothing.
We're at a Christian school, which, I have a love/hate relationship with. As some of you may have seen by my past posts, I'm Christian and proudly queer, however our school doesn't see that that's possible (it seems in their eyes you're either queer, or Christian and never both bc 'queerness is unbiblical'). And it's worsened by our system having an array of religions.
From a straight learning perspective, our notes vary drastically and often information goes missed or unnoticed if we switch out.
We're hoping that once we're healthier and achieving functional multiplicity, that we can use our system as a superpower, especially working with clients. Where our littles can help younger clients feel heard and safe, and where we can match our clients with an alter that matches and/or compliments their communication style, and way of relating to the world. And if we ever end up working with a system (or for that matter, PTSD, depression, anxiety, OCD, autism or ADHD) in therapy, we'll have first-hand experience with it.

I was sure that maladaptive daydreaming was like, more severe and uncontrollable than that? like in a way that seriously impedes your ability to function in life.
Not from what I've seen? Key words I've seen describing maladaptive daydreaming is excessive and intentional. But, recent studies are saying that it may be compulsive?
I'm some people diagnosed with it irl and some of them even like, have complained before about being interrupted out of their daydreams. But they do Intentionally start them and think fo the universes, but it like, gets in the way sometimes cuz it's like, "well I SHOULD do that thing, or, I could daydream,,, imma daydream"
Maladaptive means like, not adapting well. So maladaptive daydreaming is just, not adapting to stress in a good way via the agent of daydreaming.
Oh and Like, with proper therapy or new coping mechanisms most people diagnosed with it experience on average half the amount of daydreams sjdndndn just a fun statistic!
I don't know I could also just be wrong 🤷‍♂️ sjshdjdjdnns
My brain is fascinating
🫐
dont we ALL get irritated when our daydreams are interrupted tho? like i made this whole situation and perfectly set it up and ur tryna talk to me ?? IM BUSY !!
hard to know if it was maladaptive because I had nothing to ever do as a kid so like. i wasnt like zoning out in class daydreaming or not paying attention to something important because i never HAD class and i rarely had something important I had to be doing. i did zone out a lot but that was prolly like an ADHD thing i think..
and also since it was like, usually related to my art nobody said shit cause i was just thinkin of things to draw or stories to tell.
but sometimes you're stuck in the car with ur siblings and they're screaming and shouting and fighting and you dont have earbuds yet cause you're like 11 so instead you just,,, think about ur OC's or something :)
I can see it having been compulsive but eh. who can say. gods know my parents werent paying attention.
one #classic thing I kinda do is like, this sort of "ahh ok time to think about something else buddy, lets go!" sorta situation. like i'd say that to myself or something like "ough this sucks i dont wanna be here *thinks about dogs with wings*" or "I hate this I hate being here it's too loud and I feel gross *distracts self by thinking about how to torture my OC's*"
so idk.

ISLAM 101: Spirituality in Islam: Part 169
Secret
Meaning something kept hidden from the knowledge or view of others, sir (secret) is a spiritual faculty deposited in the heart as a Divine trust. As a Divine trust, it has the same significance for the heart as spirit has for the body. Will-power, the mind, feelings, and the heart are the four pillars of the conscience and human conscious nature-these are called “the heavenly faculties”–that are given by the Lord in the same way that a secret is a faculty and dimension of the heart. Each of the pillars of conscience has a function and goal particular to it with respect to the relationship between the Lord and His servants. Will-power is charged with submission and devotion to the Lord, the mind with acquiring the necessary information to know God, the feelings with love of God, and the heart with a vision of God’s “Face.” As for secret, it is open to and innately charged with discovering Divine secrets.
All creation has been brought into existence by the Power of the Necessarily Existent One. This gives rise to a relationship between the Creator as Lord (One Who sustains, brings up, and protects the creation and administers life) and the creation, the things and beings, of which He is Lord. This relation contains secrets that are concerned with God’s Lordship and which are called the “secrets of Lordship.” Lordship manifests itself, first of all, in the heart: the seekers feel this manifestation developing as they learn more about Him and in a deeper manner, until the point where they experience the concentrated manifestation of the Divine Names in themselves and see the whole of creation, including themselves, as consisting only in the manifestation of those Names. Finally, they obtain the pleasure of witnessing the Lord in everything with all His Names. This witnessing opens to them the door of some Divine secrets called the “secrets of manifestation.”
Some have interpreted secret as meaning a heart that is purified of all carnal vices and stains caused by attachment to anything else other than the Lord, and which has a clear relationship with the world of spirit.
Based on the verse (11:31), God knows the best whatever is in their inner worlds, we can describe a secret as being a pure bosom full of loyalty and faithfulness, open to Prophetic messages, and preferring God and the other world to all else. We can regard secret in this sense as being the heart at the level of secret.
Some have viewed the qualities mentioned here as the reasons or means of a secret’s rising in the heart. When God prepares a heart to have these qualities, endowing it with the possibility and opportunity of accepting religion, the acceptance of God’s Existence and Oneness, the confirmation of the afterlife, and the affirmation of the Prophets, the heart immediately uses this possibility and opportunity and tries to achieve the goals that can be achieved through secret. In other words, since God knows that such a heart will use this Divine trust-secret-in the best way possible, out of His special grace, He causes it to flourish. For it is He Himself Who declares (6:53): Does God not know best who are the thankful?
Such a pure, elevated heart or its owner are indicated sometimes by, Surely God loves a servant who is pious, indifferent to all save Him, and has unknown depths,[1] and sometimes by, How many servants there are, whose hair is untidy, and who are repulsed from doors, and denied respect and attention, but if they swear by God for something, God does not prove them to be untrue.[2]
In view of the above explanations, the people of secret can be divided into three classes:
The people of truth whose eyes do not see any save God, and who always pursue His good pleasure and know how to resist the carnal self. Their aims, for which they make every effort, are so sublime that they cannot be prevented by any worldly desire, and are so pure that they are in accord with the Divine commandments, and their lives are ordered to gain eternal happiness. The ways they follow are free of any doubt, and they are always aware of God’s purpose in any of their acts, even for a millisecond. They avoid fame and any distinction, knowing that servanthood to God is the aim of their existence; they value it above all worldly and other worldly considerations. Their daily lives are described in the following verse (24:36-37): In houses which God has allowed to be exalted and in which His Name is mentioned: therein are men who glorify Him in the morning and evening and whom neither trade nor buying prevents from mention of God and establishing the Prayer and paying the prescribed Alms; who fear a day when hearts and eyes will be over-turned.
The faithful souls who try to hide from others their degree of relationship with God and their rank with Him: they keep the Divine gifts granted to them concealed from others, as if they were guarding their chastity, and although each is a star in the heaven of sainthood, they all try to appear as if they were but fireflies. Though each is a dove striving on God’s way, they prefer to appear like magpies, knowing themselves to be nothing, even when they are declared in the heavens to be so holy as to be among the worthiest in the sight of God. In serving on God’s way, they are extra-ordinarily active, dynamic and humble, although they outstrip all others; they are altruistic and disinterested when it is their turn to receive wages; they have no expectations in this world. They are described in the following verse (5:54): A people whom He loves, and who love Him, and who are most humble towards the believers, and dignified and commanding in the face of the unbelievers, continuously striving in God’s way in solidarity, and fearing not the censure of anyone to censure them.
When they are alone with God in devotion, they are extra-ordinarily profound, while being exceptionally wise and successful in worldly affairs. They are remarkably careful and determined when guarding the honor of their community, and they hold themselves as aloof as possible from mean acts which may bring disgrace upon them or may cause others to feel suspicious.
The heroes have reached the summit of perfection under the care and protection of the All-Preserving and with the help of the All-Helping: they do not spend even a moment without Him, and use every event, thought and consideration as a means to mention Him. Self-annihilated in His company, they live unaware of themselves. Whatever good they do for others and whatever service they render on God’s way, they conceal it, not only from others, but also from themselves. Even if they sometimes feel some pride in themselves, they regard this as if it were a terrible affliction and immediately try to escape. They spend their lives amidst ecstasy and exhilaration, and rejoice in the Divine compliments, and in His special help and perfect care. These heroes are unknown among people and remain hid-den, enveloped by secrets, although they are God’s favorites and among the most vital elements of existence. God, the Truth, looks at things with their eyes and the universe is fed with the pure water of their secrets.
O God! Help us with mentioning You, and being thankful to You, and worshipping You properly.
And may Your blessings and peace be on our master Muhammad, the master of those who regularly worship God in the best way possible and with sincerity, and on his family and all of His Companions. [1] Al-Muslim, “Zuhd,” 11. [2] Al-Muslim, “Birr,” 138; Al-Tirmidhi, “Manaqib,” 54.

Which Aspect is the strongest?
Hello everyone, today I'm going to take a look at Homestuck's Aspects and determine which one is the most powerful. Specifically, I'm looking at which Aspect has the most pure unaided power behind it. Not which is the most desirable or most useful in a session. This is purely from a strength standpoint, whether physical or otherwise. I'll be using the term "Hax" frequently. This term refers to abilities not necessarily related to physical power, but instead offer more "special" boons, such as Time players having some level of Time control, or Light players being able to tip the odds into their favor. It's also worth noting that this ranking will be highly speculative and will have little to nothing to do with an actual Sburb session. This is based purely on combat. With all that said, I'm going to rank each Aspect from #12-#1 based on it's power, whether based on physical strength, or "Hax".
#12: Blood
Tumblr media
I feel that this placement isn't going to surprise many people. Out of all the Aspects, Blood is the only one that requires the support of allies to have any sort of power. Blood is absolutely a vital and incredibly useful Aspect for a session, but when it comes to straight up power, it has very little. The only form of Hax this Aspect has is maybe the ability to dissuade an enemy from harming you, possibly giving you an edge in combat. Overall, very little if any power on its own. Good in a session, but easily the weakest when it comes to power.
#11: Heart
Tumblr media
In the realm of strength, Heart has basically no physical power going for it. What Heart does have, however, is Hax. Heart's focus on Emotions and Irrationality can be decently useful to disrupt an enemy's strategy. Imagine Blood's idea of dissuading an enemy from attacking, but to an even further extent. This is a bit more dependent on which Class it's paired with, but is a useful ability regardless. Where Heart gets really strong, however, is in it's ties to the Inner Self, or one's own "Soul". Let's take a look at Canon for a second. Brain Ghost Dirk Strider, the Prince of Heart, was able to rip the soul out of Aranea Serket's body. He did so under the effect's of Jake English's Hope field, but was able to do it nonetheless, only being stopped by literally ceasing to exist. This can be seen as Dirk destroying Heart. Take that example and imagine how other Classes could use that. Could a Maid of Heart create another version of their own soul? Could that soul be used in combat? What about a Thief of Heart? Could they take the soul out of somebody's body, much like Dirk tried to do? There are many possibilities with this concept. I'm on the fence about whether this should place at #10 or #11, but due to it's lack of physical power, I'm going to err on the lower end and place it here.
#10: Mind
Tumblr media
Mind has essentially no physical power to speak of. However, it does have tons of use in the way of Hax.
Mind's focus on Logic, Rationality and Decision-making can be greatly useful as a benefit to one's own abilities as well as a detriment to an enemy, if used correctly. A Prince of Mind could remove the agency or skill from an opponent by destroying Mind in them, giving a significant edge in combat and helping to prevent the proper use of more powerful abilities that foes may have. A Mind player may also use Logic and Decision-making to enhance their own combat prowess greatly, by making the best possible decisions in any given situation. Mind is also going to be useful with any Class, given that it's abilities are not significantly affected by any Class's given function. However, at the end of the day, Mind is only as strong as one's own physical capabilities. Without powerful tools, Mind will feel underwhelming. The most skillful fighter using their fists will still have trouble against the least skillful fighter using a gun. Under the right circumstances, however, Mind can be incredibly powerful. It simply falls this low due to other Aspects being more consistently strong.
#9: Life
Tumblr media
Life is fairly Class-dependent as far as Aspects go. The strength of Life can vary wildly from being very high in terms of strength, or being one of the weakest. It gets a lower-end position overall, but absolutely has it's moments. Paired with the right Class, Life can be a force to be reckoned with. A Prince or Bard of Life would literally be "One who destroys Life". This would be, very literally, a killing machine. A warrior whom is adept in ending Life. A Thief or Rogue of Life would likely have similar strength. A Maid of Life may seem weak at first when it comes to power, but just use a little creativity and they have astonishingly deadly Hax at their disposal. A Maid of Life could create cancer cells in your body. They could grow masses of vestigial organic matter in your body. They could create antibodies that target your body's own functions to destroy you from the inside. This is all on top of having incredible self-healing abilities. A Witch of Life could manipulate your body in order to do all of the same things as a Maid of Life, but could also straight up control you, Bloodbending style. Outside of these examples, there isn't much to speak of. A Sylph of Life or fully realized Page of Life could possibly do some of the same things as a Maid of Life, but that's about it. Knowing a lot about Life? Using Life as a weapon? Neither seem very useful, power-wise. These abilties are also not particularly versatile, nor do they help much with mobility. It's purely from a matter of consistency that other Aspects place higher than Life. However, by no means is Life weak and it can be used in horrifying ways with a little imagination.
#8: Space
Tumblr media
Space is an Aspect I honestly expected to put higher, and you could argue it should be. Space's focus on the physical world gives its users incredible physical power and control over the battlefield. A Space player will, almost regardless of Class, have control over the size, velocity and movement of physical objects. Why almost any Class? Because Space also deals with the empty Space in between objects. A Maid of Space could increase the size of an object, creating Space. They could also increase the empty Space around an object, reducing the object's size, by creating Space. The inverse would apply to a Prince or Bard of Space. Space gives it's players incredible physical power as well as versatile movement and battlefield control. In the way of the purely physical, Space is incredibly strong. Space, however, lacks any sort of mental or metaphysical Hax, beyond controlling empty Space. I'm very much on the fence of placing this Aspect at #7 or #8. It really could be either. I am, however, going to give the edge to:
#7: Breath
Tumblr media
Breath's main draw in the way of physical strength is in it's ability to control The Breeze. The Breeze refers to air which can be controlled by Breath players, such as John Egbert, the Heir of Breath, doing "The Windy Thing". High speed wind is no joke, and comes with very little risk, seeing as you don't need to physically touch or even get near an enemy to use it against them. In the way of Hax, Breath players may use The Breeze to fly, giving them incredible mobility. Breath also has connections to Freedom, Direction and Confidence. This means that it may be significantly more difficult to get in the head of a Breath player and throw them off their game. Breath is, by all means, an incredibly strong and versatile Aspect. The only thing holding it back is the immense power creep when it comes to Hax over the next few Aspects. Breath is strong in it's own right, but doesn't quite stand up to the god-like powers of the remaining 6. Speaking of:
#6: Rage
Tumblr media
Starting off the top 6, we have Rage. Rage players are the most outright physically powerful out of all players. One of Rage's components is brute strength and it does not play around. Rage players have very little in the way of metaphysical Hax, but this fact is made up for by their sheer strength. In a fight against a Rage player, one good hit is likely all they'll need to end the fight right there and then. This can be even further pushed by the use of throwing weapons or objects from the environment. Rage's focus on Truth, Skepticism and Realism means that Rage players are unlikely to be fooled or mislead. They're near impervious to deception. These abilities are not universally useful, but come in particularly handy against one particular Aspect. That Aspect would be Hope. Rage's ruthless skepticism and focus on hard truths is the antithesis of Hope. This dichotomy means that Rage players would likely be uniquely gifted against Hope players, likely suppressing or completely subduing Hope powers. This is only useful against Hope players, but as you'll see, that alone is enough to make it one of the strongest.
#5: Time
Tumblr media
I was honestly expecting to place Time higher, but certain things hold it back. The first major drawback of Time is it's lack of physical power. It doesn't affect physical power directly. This, however, is more than made up for in it's metaphysical Hax. This is self explanatory. Having any level of control over Time is obviously incredibly powerful and will be good with any Class. However, there are certain limits we can see in Canon, such as Dave Strider, the Knight of Time, needing his "Time loops" to be stable and internally consistent. This likely means Time paradoxes and other such things have their limits and aren't necessarily easy solutions in any given fight. Lastly, as powerful as Time hax can be, it simply doesn't hold up against the remaining 4 Aspects, which are even more extreme in power.
#4: Light
Tumblr media
Light, much like Time, has little to no physical power to speak of. It's true power, however, lies in Hax. Light deals in several incredibly useful components, making it incredibly versatile and useful on every single Class. Let's go over them. Information and Knowledge are the least outright powerful parts of a Light player's arsenal, but are far from useless. They say that knowing is half the battle, right? Knowing your enemy's strengths or weaknesses, your own limits, the battlefield, anything you can think of is going to be easier to deal with the more informed you are about it and Light players are the most informed there are. Luck has got to be one of the most contrived powers I can think of. The ability to control the odds, whether to benefit yourself or to the detriment of others, is absurdly powerful. You're about to take a hit? Oops, suddenly an earthquake hits just in time to save you. Oh, and look. The earthquake caused a fissure which your opponent just fell into. Isn't that lucky? There are also several things that are technically possible, but are astronomically unlikely to happen, such as touching an object and having every single atom in your body miss the atoms in the object, therefore, you phasing right through it. Imagine being able to tip the odds into your favor on that one. The only drawback to this power is the potential for a Doom player to suppress it. However, this isn't necessarily a 100% working solution for Doom players, due to: Relevance. The power to control Relevance is something I don't think everybody picks up on. In Canon, Aranea Serket, the Sylph of Light, planned to heal the Relevance of a doomed timeline in order to make it the new Alpha timeline. This would have completely destroyed Lord English. However, her plans were halted before she could put them properly into motion, so we don't know if it would've worked. However, conceptually, there's no reason why it wouldn't. That's a bit of an extreme example, but you can imagine how that might be useful particularly against a Doom player, no? Overall, Light has some insane Hax and is incredibly versatile. Absolutely a force to be reckoned with, but has little in the way of mental Hax or physical power.
#3: Doom
Tumblr media
Doom is the most powerful Aspect in it's own right, especially under optimal conditions. However, it loses the top spot for 1 very specific reason. Similarly to Life, Doom's physical power can vary wildly. A Seer of Doom would have very little physical power, while a Witch of Doom might be able to literally kill someone with a single touch. This inconsistency means Doom is very Class dependent, in terms of physical power. When it comes to Hax, Doom is absolutely ridiculous. Imagine a player with the power to control their own fate. Imagine losing a fight from the very beginning, because it was destined to happen. That's Doom. Again, this varies wildly based on Class, but is still absolutely insane regardless. This ability can also be somewhat hampered by Light players. You might think the reason Doom isn't #1 is because of it's Class dependency, right? Well, no. It's because despite Doom having the most powerful specific effect, the top 2 Aspects are broken in a way that not even Doom can stand up to.
#2: Hope
Tumblr media
Many would place Hope at #1 and it's easy to see why. It has one of the most broken powers I can possibly think of. Hope has little to no physical power. At least, not at first. Hope gets it's strength from Hax, and as you'll see, it gets physical power from the Hax itself. Hope players are able to fulfill their role by wishing. Literally. A Hope player can make things happen by believing hard enough that they will. A Prince of Hope could destroy something by believing that it will be destroyed. You can see this in Canon when Eridan Ampora, the Prince of Hope, is able to use a regular stick to shoot beams of energy in order to destroy things and kill people. Imagine taking that even further. Imagine you don't even need a wand. Imagine just believing that your opponent will instantly die on the spot and they do, and that's just Prince. Imagine a Witch of Hope, who could manipulate things by wishing for that to happen. There is essentially no limit to this power. At least, against most Aspects. Against certain Aspects, mental Hax may be particularly effective, given how mental Hope's powers are. As I went over in the Rage section, Rage players would likely be a Hope player's worst nightmare, being able to pull Hope players' figurative heads out of the clouds and weakening or outright disabling their powers. Overall, absolutely insane abilities, but may be challenged or outright beaten by certain other Aspects. However, there is one Aspect remaining. One with not only incredible, near limitless power, but unlike Hope, has no clear weakness. I am of course referring to:
#1: Void
Tumblr media
Void is the Aspect of possibilities. It's a blank page. Wherever you want the story to go, Void will take you there. The concept of absolutely nothing, or nonexistence, is so unbelievably powerful that I can't possibly understand why so many consider it weak. We get the most obvious example of Void's power from Canon. Roxy Lalonde, the Rogue of Void, was able to steal Void from objects which do not exist, therefore, making them "not nonexistent". Thus, existing. Literally manifesting things into reality. This is just a sample of what Void can offer. How would a Prince of Void operate? They would destroy with Void, right? That doesn't necessarily mean "destroy with nothing", that means "destroy with nonexistence" or "destroy with what doesn't exist". There are so many possibilities within those ideas. Remember how a Prince of Hope could wish for somebody to die and they would? Imagine a Prince of Void making somebody cease to exist. Imagine them destroying someone with a power neither they nor anyone else thought was possible or could even comprehend. That's the power of Void. If all the other Aspects are different swords, then Void is a crucible of molten metal, waiting to be cast. There's basically no limit to Void besides your own imagination. This is to not even mention Void's connection to Obscurity, which is still incredibly useful in battle, but pales in comparison to everything else the Aspect can offer. In summary, Void sweeps.
Conclusion
Tumblr media
I hope you enjoyed my analysis of the Aspects' strength and rankings! If you disagree with my placements, please tell me why! I would love to hear other angles and see where I might've gotten something wrong. Until next time, -Crowe

Fan theory: Tek Knight is just a freak and his brain cancer has no bearing on it.
Sorry if this sounds deranged, it is because I am mentally ill 👍
Admittedly, I’m not a brain surgeon. Also I haven’t actually watched the whole of Gen V, I just watched The Whole Truth like 2 seconds ago in Biology class. Honestly I don’t care that much about The Boys I just have a hyperfixation on Iron Man and this is tangentially related.
Tek Knight is obviously based off Iron Man. There’s no debating that.
It’s not a stretch to assume that Tek Knight’s brain cancer thing was inspired by Marvel Ultimates’ portrayal of Iron Man where he has a brain tumor that turns into an ai/son who ultimately (ha) dies because Reed Richards discovered that Iron Man had such awful thoughts that the mind gem started growing in his brain and was removed by Quicksilver (who is in an incestuous relationship with his twin) and in the process Quicksilver also removed the brain tumor. Marvel Ultimates was wilding and it has a reboot (don’t know why they would reboot peak) and I hope Tony’s ai/son makes an appearance.
Tek Knight was based on the many shades of Tony Stark. Back in the 60s, Stan wanted a character who was a redeemed asshole. But at least Tek Knight never built concentration camps in space like TS. But it’s okay because he was sad or something. I wonder if TK will put cameras in people’s showers… It’s cherry-picked is what it is.
TK doesn’t hallucinate or anything like Ultimates!Tony Stark! No, that’s not hardcore enough for Gen V. Instead he fucks anything with a hole.
“Fatigue, pain, anxiety and depression are the most frequently reported cancer symptoms which can be compounded by existing psychologic conditions… Primary brain tumor (PBT) patients encounter many stigmas… loss of economy due to decreased cognition, loss of functional status with motor and sensory deficits and loss of individual freedoms such as driving due to epilepsy and behavioral issues…Emotional and physical distress were the two most commonly reported domains encompassing the problems of fatigue, fears, depression, memory and concentration and worry.” CNS Oncol. 2016 Oct; 5(4): 241–249. Published online 2016 Jul 11. doi: 10.2217/cns-2016-0010
Tek Knight isn’t such a special snowflake that his brain tumor manifests other than this. I swear to God. He clearly doesn’t have the other problems.
One only need look at the barbaric practice of lobotomies to see how differently brain trauma manifests. So yeah, maybe it is because of brain cancer, who fucking knows. I hate being alive.
So yeah, I’m fake-claiming Tek Knight. He’s lying about having cancer, or at least lying about that one symptom. No one in the history of ever has had that symptom, Tek Knight is a fucking freak who hides behind trauma to continue his disgusting behavior. He can fool everyone but he can’t fool me.

looking out for you: act ii behind the scenes
just pretending like im on a talk show i am both the interviewer and the host <3
motivation for writing the lance and keith solo chapters
i've been raring to write the solo winter break chapters (i just called them the winter break interlude in my head for a bit) since september/october actually. i viewed it as my reward for finishing act ii 💀 not just because i love angst but also i love a good character study/character development heavy chapter and i really got to dig into each character and their home lives.
the foundation of this fic is entirely based on my dissatisfaction with how the show progressed and ended and subsequent self-indulgence— i've just been addressing a lot of the issues i had with vld. one such issue for me was the lack of in-depth character development. i enjoy a good romance as much as the next person but i really wanted to understand keith and lance as individuals who functioned outside of each other and the context of the group, and the solo chapters were a great writing exercise for me in terms of characterization and character-driven storytelling. so let's get into it baby!
Tumblr media
lance's section (chapter 11) first.
we never got to see lance's growth as a character beyond "the dumb one" or the guy who cracks jokes for the sake of the team. the smaller vulnerable moments lance had, where he broke down and felt like he was useless and tried to leave the team or when he admitted he missed his family and Earth— they never got properly resolved. i think lance's identity as a 1.5 generation immigrant (immigrating to the States as a little kid) as well as his status as the youngest in a large family impacted his thought process and self-perception and i wanted to showcase that.
for children especially, immigration can be traumatic. i know "trauma" is an oversaturated buzzword used in pop psychology these days but i refer its definition as something established in one of my classes: "an event or series of events that is perceived as frightening, distressing, or life-threatening and has long-lasting effects on the survivor's emotional, social, mental, and physical processes." i imagine that for a 5-year-old lance, who has always been family-oriented and prone to bouts of homesickness, he experienced his immigration as traumatic when he had to leave behind everything he knew in cuba (his house, his friends, his neighbors, most of his family members) and start his life over in america. like, that's a LOT for anyone, let alone a little kid, to have to deal with. and that's where i extrapolated the notion that lance is afraid of being left behind— he didn't really have a choice in whether or not he got to leave cuba and so he's carried this fear that everyone in cuba will move on without him.
on top of that, i think lance acted as a sponge for his family's negative emotions related to immigration (stress, anxiety, sadness). that's partially where he developed the conception that he had to perform, to always be on and distract them from their negative feelings. ofc, it also doesn't help that as the youngest, he really has to jockey with his siblings for a Thing (i.e. Luis is the family man, Marco is the athlete, Veronica and Rachel are the career-driven women).
i knew from the get-go i was gonna make this bitch have daddy issues lol. first and foremost, i do not want to dismiss the very real fact that there are tons of immigrant parents who hold homophobic notions and ideals because that is 100% real. however, the way that it's portrayed in media can sometimes flatten a lot of the potential for a nuanced relationship. i'm not excusing homophobia by any means but i am coming from a place of engaged empathy. our parents are a product of a society and culture that has ingrained in them homophobic ideals and fucked notions of gender expression. it's difficult to break a way of thinking and acting when you've had that logic shoved down your throat since birth. i think there's a lot to be said on the concept of masculinity and the "strong silent immigrant parent," which i haven't seen much in the voltron fanfiction i've consumed. i wanted to craft a relationship between lance and his dad where it can be boiled down to: "your love hurts." their conversation at the end of chapter 11 is by no means fixing everything, but it's a step in the right direction.
i also just really love lance's relationship with his siblings. i'm the oldest so it was a fun exercise to just see how lance interacts with his siblings as the youngest. also that's not the last you'll be seeing of the McClan in this fic......
let's talk about the keith section:
ok first, we've been able to view shiro from keith, lance, and adam's pov thus far. the thing is, though, is that lance still kind of views shiro as his idol/someone he's looked up to, and i wrote adam's pov primarily so the audience could view klance as a unit. shiro's character felt a little flat, and that was kind of on purpose thus far. keith and shiro are obviously incredibly close since they're brothers in this universe, but there's been an underlying tension so far because keith feels distant from shiro and i wanted to address that finally.
i think it's a natural thing for relationships to change once people hit college/move out. keith's mom left when he was a kid and his dad died and he bounced from foster home to foster home so ofc he's going to develop a huge complex about forming attachments to other people. i think it makes sense that one of keith's biggest fears is that shiro will leave him or grow tired of him, which obvi isn't true, but when you get in your head about something, after years of trauma and reinforcement of a spiral of bad thoughts, it's hard to get out of it. so keith's chapter was kind of confronting this idea that he deserves good, and that he might be good, and maybe he should stop running and learn to accept that he is loved.
i'm sure y'all have picked up on the whole thing i have for keith about showing the evolution of his willingness to be vulnerable and open up through cooking. at the end of keith's chapter, he is making kimchi fried rice with akemi which holds a lot of nuance.
1) keith is slowly but surely exploring his own heritage. (i know i haven't touched on keith's korean identity in a bit but dw that's coming in later chapters). fried rice isn't an entirely new concept to him bc he was raised in a japanese household (and also just exists in the world) but he's embracing positive change within himself and even initiating it himself by trying out a korean recipe, using kimchi, a korean food
2) not only is he trying out a korean recipe, he felt safe enough to attempt it for the first time at college, in a shared house with all his friends, and even served it to them, which is a HUGE step in his willingness to be perceived.
3) he is sharing this recipe with akemi, his japanese kind-of mom. it's the fact that cooking is kind of a love language for keith and akemi, and he wants to share something he's found for himself, away from the texas house, and integrated it into his old life, mixing what he knew with what he knows now.
akemi, who has shared her own recipes she learned from her family with keith and took on the role of teacher, is now the student. she's learning a recipe from keith and engaging in his explorations of his koreanness through cooking. and keith is sharing his culture with her because he tried it on his own with his own little found family, like "hey look at this thing i tried out for myself can i share it with you?"
tl;dr for chapters 11 and 12
i wanted to use the solo chapters as ways to show how lance and keith react to change— the ways they view it and the reasons they fear it. it can be boiled down to this:
lance: i am afraid of being left behind and i wish things would stay the same so i do not have to address the fear of being left behind because that implies i am not good enough for someone to stay for. keith: nothing has ever stayed the same for me and i am afraid of getting comfortable in the love that my community has for me because that could all be ripped away at a moment's notice. i will leave first as an act of self preservation.
allura 💖🧚🏿‍♀️🥰
i love you allura!!!! i got to have keith and lance each have a little moment with our fave princess because 1) keith and allura didn't interact a lot in this supposed found family in the canon other than when allura found out keith was galra and 2) i really liked the friendship between lance and allura in seasons 3-4 and i wish there were more moments like that. i think keith and allura could both connect more on grief and heritage since they both lost their parents, bridges to their respective cultures (keith korean, and allura jamaican). that little moment in ch 6 between both of them was very special for me as well— as an adoptee, i felt disconnected from a lot of traditions and holidays and foods that were a part of my birth culture but i didn't have anyone to celebrate it with. having keith and allura kind of discuss that together was not only a great character development moment but also was me projecting a lil 😗
side note: allura saying goodnight to keith in chapter 8 after halloweekend shenanigans parallels chapter 2, when they're outside the bathroom and she goes to touch his shoulder but he ducks away. i thought it'd be a nice little easter egg to show the progression of their friendship— in chapter 8, keith lets allura touch him and affirm their status as friends who have fun together.
i like lotor as a character but i had to nerf him a bit in this fic in regards to his relationship with allura. i think allura's relationship with lotor adds to her depth as a character— she's seen as the strong girlboss who doesn't take shit but hinting at her toxic relationship and portraying its affects was important to me. yes, allura is a badass but also she is not immune to shitty stuff, and even the most badass of people can get into bad situations. it doesn't make them weak, it just makes them human. i wanted lance, who def has this image of allura that's different from reality, to kind of find allura in this vulnerable moment and 1) realize that she's a person first and foremost, not an infallible goddess and 2) comfort her wholeheartedly because lance, to his core, is a very kind person and even when drunk, he's going to try and find the right words to say.
allura is a side character in all of this but i wanted to give her some complexity as well, since lance hangs out a lot with hunk and pidge and keith is closer with shiro and adam.
ch 9 klance development
ok look everything everywhere all at once left a fucking imprint on my brain when i saw it. "in another life i would have liked just doing laundry and taxes with you" ok stab me in the gut. that being said, i know i really wanted to give klance a moment to just be friends who run domestic errands together, to start nudging them in a direction where they're both like, "hey i kinda enjoy hanging out with this person one-on-one, and im comfortable enough to feel like i dont have to perform in front of them." klance just being domestic and folding laundry together at a laundromat and sharing airpods askgjakdjghlkadjfhgadf.
i also wanted to include the little adam and lance moment toward the end, because let's face it, adam would have absolutely adored lance (i say from the 2 minutes of screentime canon adam w got). lance has hunk and pidge and he's friends with allura but i wanted to give him someone to look up to and rely on the way keith has shiro. esp since lance is the youngest and away from home— adam probably reminds him more of his siblings initially, because lance has a more grounded perspective of adam than shiro, who's a microniche celebrity.
about the beach episode
i love beach filler episodes so fucking much. it's just a great time to get the ensemble out of the typical college setting and see how they function as a unit in a different environment. from the car rides, to stopping for food at some dingy ass fast food chain, to fucking around on the beach and chasing birds and sharing lunch ugh i love it so much it was lovely to write. mirroring adashi's relationship development with klance's was fun, i've had that idea in my head for awhile now so it was gratifying to see it come to fruition. i knew that i would have lance realize he liked keith first simply because keith takes a bit to process his emotions. dw this isn't gonna be some one-sided, drawn out pining for too long.
this beach chapter was a way for me to simultaneously reflect on how things have progressed with klance's relationships. not just with each other, but the rest of the group as well. i wanted them to have gotten a natural dynamic where they're all close enough to go on a beach trip and just fuck around and be normal college kids taking a break for finals. it also allowed me to plant the seeds for further klance development, as well as hint at the central conflict that would follow lance in chapter 11. chapter 10 was a great wrap up for the overall dynamic of the group and a way to end the fall semester.
what was it like to write in adam's pov?
that was so much fucking fun ahhhhh. for one reason, klance aren't together yet and i wanted. to write. domestic bliss. second, it's a great narrative tool to kind of zoom out a bit when viewing klance. we can see how the boys interact in a group setting from an outsider's perspective, without all the gay panic or inner monologues, as fun as they are to write. they just exist as they are, and adam takes note of it. third, i love adam and the potential of adashi and i am so so so sad that adam got killed off after less than 90 seconds of screentime. nothing against curtis, but i've just been more attached to adam since his character was revealed in the show (even if it wasn't for long). shiro deserves a loving partner and healthy relationship and i think adashi are so fucking cute. and yeah, i'm paralleling adashi's relationship development with klance, i just couldn't fucking resist.
when tf are lance and keith gonna get together?
LMAO yeah i knew this was gonna be a slowburn but damn i really am drawing it out. i do want to follow a somewhat logical progression and pacing, though. act i was building klance up as people who could find some common ground and humanize each other instead of just butting heads. act ii has been following the development of their friendship and planting the seeds for romantic attraction, as you might have seen from chapter 10. dw, there is a spike in the klance development in act iii as i focus on their navigation as a couple, and as y'all know, i already wrote the confession scene. it's coming!!!! soon!!!!!!!
multilingualism as a plot device
i've talked about it before but i love!!!! using language as a plot device to demonstrate a character's personality/development/interpersonal relationship!!!
i'm not a fluent speaker in any of the languages that have appeared or been mentioned in this fic (spanish, japanese, korean, jamaican creole, tagalog). i've studied most of them lackadaisically and i'm sort of fuzzy on grammar and cultural nuance. i've been consulting with actual native speakers of these languages to try and make it as authentic as possible but ofc, if you do speak those languages and something sticks out with the translations, please let me know!
i studied spanish in high school, but it was a mix of mexican and castillian spanish because i had different teachers between the years. diving into cuban spanish, which is an entirely different dialect because of its history in the caribbean, has been really fun (and also a lot of work my god i haven't had to bust out my spanish in years). learning all the different curses has been sooooo cool, i love profanity in other languages.
that being said, i think it's really interesting when writing from keith's pov and incorporating language. i have this idea that when keith first moved in with the shiroganes, akemi and shiro tried to encourage him to go to korean school but he probably got embarrassed because he was put with a bunch of little kids due to his speaking ability and stopped going.
the linguistic and cultural barrier was fun to craft between keith and akemi because when they first met each other, keith probably spoke 0 japanese and akemi was more comfortable in japanese and less in english. from the flashback in chapter 12, we see that keith has already been studying hard to work to a conversational level of japanese, and he can understand basic phrases (akemi tries to accommodate him as well). even so, keith still uses 丁寧語 or teneigo, the standard level of politeness for japanese, when he's speaking with akemi. it shows that even though he's progressed in his japanese, he still puts some distance between him and akemi, like he sees himself as a long-term houseguest. ofc there's layers of respect that are interlaced with teneigo, but close family units don't use teneigo when they speak to each other.
this has been a disorganized and rambling behind the scenes of looking out for you act ii. thanks for tuning in and see y'all next time <3

NOTES ON THE SPELLCASTERS CARDS
Part 3
11. So this is only my opinion, and nothing in canon supports this, but I think that the stats can go as high as 30. 20 is the normal stats for most mewmans, monsters, and half-monsters. 25 for monsters with longer lifespans like the septarians, demons, most magic beings and creatures altered by magic. 27 for gods, and ancient magic being(like Glossaryck?).
I don't believe that Jushtin nor Dirhhennia's other attributes can go higher than 20, but maybe they can, I don't know, I personally hope that's not the case.
*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚
12. To emphasize a trait or skill, some spellcasters are given unique attributes, usually related to the common ones like potion crafting(intelligence), or wrist power(dexterity). Some even take the place of the attribute like the ones mentioned.
Traits like cold determination, and shyness are outside the influence of the six attributes, because low stats won't stop someone from being a ruthless, unrelenting force, who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals and you can still be very charismatic even if you're very shy(From what I heard in discussions on how to rp stats).
*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚
13. To emphasize how weak, dumb, naive, graceless, sickly or tactless a spellcaster is, some of the spellcasters have attributes with extremely low scores, take Celena for example.
Celena has a 2 in strength, a 3 in dexterity, and a 4 in constitution, akin to that of a baby or a very elderly person. If her characterization follows this scores, she would not be strong enough to stand up on her own, in fact, she would probably be paralyzed from the neck down(Str). If by miracle she could walk, it would be uncoordinated and awkward, not to mention painful(Dex). If she was able to leave the castle despite that, she would be too tired to continue further, already exhausted her mental and physical energy on a basic motor function. The outside makes her very susceptible to illnesses, and increases her risk of dying early, even just from a simple cold(Con).
*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚
14. Dirhhennia has the most unique stats hands down. Not one of her attributes have any scores, most are replaced with the abbreviation of "No Answer," as if Glossaryck had given up on her stats.
I mean I would too if my subject acts like a sims character with free will disabled. Like Dir would much rather stand or sit idly than do anything like practicing her magic.
*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚
15. Speculating the scores of the replaced attributes—Starting with Moon and working our way up.
So Moon. I think her dexterity score would be between 12 to 15, because she seems agile, but not as agile as Eclipsa or Star, at least I don't remember her being as agile. She should at least have an above average score because Star said she attended a pole dancing class, though we don't know how often.
Next her great-grandmother Celena. Celena would have 18 in intelligence because she has 20 in potion crafting. Her charisma score would be between 18 to 20 because she is "alluring" and "admired," according to her aurole sign. Corroborated by her tapestry, which depicted her with a long line of admirers holding gifts/offerings for her.
I believe her mother Rhina's dexterity score would be between 17 to 20 because she apparently can pick her nose and use her rubrikian wand with her toes, which is very impressive. Also, with how complicated her wand is, she likely need to be extremely dexterous to avoid attacks while she charges her wand.
Aunt Dirhhennia's charisma score is hard to answer, because if she can turn it on and off, then she would have two charisma scores. If this is the case, I think her natural charisma's score, based on her chapter and interactions with people, would be between 5 to 8; and her supernatural charisma's score would be between 23 to 26.
Solaria dexterity score would likely be the same as Rhina's, though I admit I don't really have much proof besides that scene of her landing so gracefully on a gable roof.
Last should be older brother Jushtin, but I'm setting that aside for NSAP part 3, so yay, we are finally done...for now.

"Miss (L/n), is he your boyfriend?"
I felt my face flare up at the question from the small girl. Maybe taking a load of 11-12 year olds on a school trip alone wasn't the best idea… I bent down away from the detective inspector to her level, "No… he's not. Now did you need something?"
"But you love him though, don't you?"
Again, my face went redder than I thought was possible as I responded, "Millie, my love life is none of your concert at the moment. Please just go and have fun while we're here."
"But there's like police guys everywhere! We can't do anything, that's what I came to tell you!"
I sighed, "Alright, can you go and get everyone to come back to the bus then? We'll go to the hotel for the afternoon then."
She nodded and ran off as I took a deep breath turning back to Greg, "I'm sorry about that, but this is what I get for taking them on a school trip all on my own."
"It's kind of cute to be honest. They're just looking out for you, you know, (Y/n). Want you to be happy and all."
I smiled, "I guess you're right, so… what happened here that you had to spoil our school trip?"
"Murder case. I just hope that Sherlock doesn't appear…" Greg responded, muttering the last statement, causing me to giggle, "You know Sherlock though, he will appear. I wish you luck for when he does. I should probably go and get those kids to the hotel," I replied, before saying my goodbyes and walking off outside where I saw the kids sitting on the bus, Millie waiting outside. I smiled and walked up, "Good job, Millie. Everyone here?"
She nodded, "Yep! So… are you sure that guy isn't your boyfriend?" I just shook my head and got on the bus, her following me as I talked to the driver about where the hotel was we were staying at.
----------------
The last day we were in the centre of London for for the trip, again, somehow we managed to bump into Greg again.
"We meet again, (Y/n)."
I giggled, "Yeah. I guess we do. Another case?"
He nodded, "Yes, and unfortunately, that psychopath is already here."
I giggled, "I think you mean 'High Functioning Sociopath', Greg. You should listen to him though."
"I know, but he just makes Scotland Yard look like a bunch of idiots."
I giggled at his complaining but before I could say anything else, "Miss (L/n)!! When are we going home? Oh Hello again, Mr! Are you sure you're not Miss (L/n)'s boyfriend? This is the third day in a row we've seen you and her talking." My face flushed red and I hid behind the clipboard I had with the schedule written on as I composed myself, "Alright, We're going home now actually," I replied, checking the schedule, "To the bus!" The three boys smiled and took off, but before I could follow them, I felt a hand grab my wrist. As I turned around, Greg grabbed my upper arms and kissed me. I blinked and wrapped my arms around his neck, kissing him back.
"Are you sure he's not your boyfriend?"
I flinched back at Millie's voice and cleared my throat "Well, I gu-"
"I am," Greg interrupted me, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind, leaning his head on my shoulder, "Now I guess I should let your teacher take you back."
Millie smirked and ran off as I turned around so I was now facing Greg, "Thanks for that. Now she's going to tell the whole class and I'll never hear the end of it."
He chuckled and pecked my lips, "They deserve to know that their teacher isn't single anymore. Plus otherwise they'll just get mad at you when your name changes."
I rolled my eyes and giggled, "Is this your way of proposing even though we literally just got together?"
"Well, we're childhood friends, we've known each other for so long, (Y/n), but no, not yet. Maybe in a few years."
-----------------------
"Now, to conclude our final assembly of the school year, I'd like to pass over to our Year 7 teacher, Miss (L/n)."
I smiled and took a deep breath walking up to the small mic in the school hall as the headmistress patted me on the shoulder, "Good luck."
I nodded to her as a thanks before speaking into the microphone, "Hello to you all. Now those of you in year 9, might remember that school trip we had when you were in year 7, and how you kept asking me if the guy we kept running into was my boyfriend, well, when we come back in August, I won't be 'Miss (L/n)' to any of you anymore," this caused gasps and mutters of confusion to go around the hall, "as by that time that won't be my name. I am pleased to tell you all that I am getting married over the summer!"
There were many cheers throughout the school hall as I continued with one final point, "Oh, before I forget, Millie Williamson, please can you and your parents come and see me in my classroom after the assembly."
-----------------
"What did you want to talk to me about, Miss (L/n)?" Millie asked.
I smiled and bent down to her level the best I could, placing a hand on her shoulder, "Millie, how would you like to be the flower girl at my wedding?"
Her eyes widened and filled with joy, "Really?! You want me as part of the ceremony?!"
I nodded and she looked up to her parents a pleading look on her face. Her mother sighed, "Miss (L/n), may I ask why you want Millie to be your flower girl?"
"Well, to be honest, if it wasn't for her, then I wouldn't be getting married at all. It's thanks to her constant pestering two years ago that gave me the courage to confess my feelings to Greg, my now fiancé and I want her to be there as a thank you."
"I see."
"Please, Mum, Dad? Please can I do it?!" Millie asked again, causing both her parents to sigh, "Very well, what date is the wedding, Miss (L/n)?" I smiled widely and told them the date as Millie gave me a hug.
--------------------
I smiled, snuggling into Greg's side, the two of us sitting on the sofa in the house as I admired the shiny ring on my finger.
"How was today?"
My smile widened and I leaned up kissing him, "Absolutely perfect. I wouldn't have had it any other way."
"I love you, (Y/n). So much."
"I love you too, Greg. Both of you."
"Huh? What are you talking about?"
"I'm pregnant," I whispered in his ear before snuggling into his side and going to sleep.
