It's been sitting on my shelf forever, but I finally got around to watching the Code Realize musical. I was not prepared for the way Sholmes looks at Lupin.

I'm a million years late on this but man, the Herlock Sholmes route of the Code: Realize fandisk is kind of fascinating.

Cause while the main game basically just used the bachelors' various source material as the very loose inspiration for an otherwise completely original steampunk fantasy adventure (even going so far as to use Frankenstein's novel plot points as full on red herrings in Victor's route), Sholmes's is actually like, straight up, a pretty good piece of Sherlock Holmes fan fiction in the style of the style of a melodramatic visual novel romance.

Like I totally buy this version of Holmes as a romantic lead -- effortlessly capable, one step ahead at all times, always keeping his cool, prone to teasing rather than overt arrogance, weighed down by self-imposed responsibility, and very courteous towards everyone, especially the PC. And it's good that they knew to bring in Watson and make his friendship as important to Holmes as the budding romance; their take on him is great -- I love enthusiastic shonen bro wife guy Watson, he's a badass and darling and he's introduced shooting the hand off Jack the Ripper before spotting the PC and going, "Huh is anybody gonna big brother that girl?" and not waiting for an answer.

And of course Moriarty has a weird homoerotic yandere fixation on Holmes, how else was an anime dating sim going to translate that relationship? It's just hilarious that in-universe Holmes has to share his yandaddy with Van Helsing.

Paschalia

Favorite thing about them: He's an unexpectedly forward lover! He's quiet and soft and unassuming at first but as soon as he gets the green light to be affectionate, he's like "let's have a full on make out session for our second kiss."

Least favorite thing about them: He didn't have a sprite version of him with his vastitas showing. We only see the effects of his disease in cgs but I would've liked to see it on his sprite for a short while.

Favorite line: So this line comes pretty early in Paschalia's route and while kinda simple on the surface, it's a good line that shows his kindness but also his weakness.

I want to see you smiling next to me for as long as possible.

He wishes happiness to the heroine but it's tinged with sadness. The "for as long as possible" gets to me. It's not a hopeful and lengthy "forever" or "always." But rather a vaguely limited "as long as possible." It makes sense for him because, for the longest time, Paschalia lived on borrowed time and the future was always uncertain for him. So him subtly alluding to his limited future is just... akdjharuth!

brOTP: Paschalia & Ion. Their dynamic doesn't get a big highlight but they're both soft spoken sweethearts who suffer too much (in my opinion). Also the chef and foodie of the team being friends is cute.

OTP: Paschalia x me? Does that count? Look, the thing with otomes is that you're kinda supposed to self-insert. And I honestly prefer Tifalia (RadiTale's heroine) with Vilio or Liyan.

nOTP: I don't think such a thing exists in the world of otomes.

Random headcanon: He's not very flexible... He's been bedridden most of his life so he's not good at bending his body in ways.

Unpopular opinion: I prefer him as a brunet. His orange-brown hair is a great contrast to his blue clothing and it's a sign that he no longer is diseases! I know all promotional art is of Paschalia with his blue hair (and he does look genuinely gorgeous with the blue) but I love brunet Paschalia!

Song I associate with them: Someone You Like by The Girl and the Dreamcatcher. A theme of Paschalia's arc and romance is the idea that there's more to love than just the feeling of it, but also the effort needed for love to truly blossom. The lyrics of the song talk about not always being the best as a partner but still asserting that the speaker can be someone the listener can like/love. The song really works for Paschalia because he not only is admittedly a weak guy but also has moments where he is unable to comfort the player but instead make their sorrow greater (speaking from personal experience...). But still, he loves deeply and eventually shows his determination to show that love. It's great, he's great~!

Favorite picture of them: I'm weak for this man. He looks perfect in every image but this here...

Herlock Sholmes

Favorite thing about them: I like seeing Herlock bully Lupin. So many times, Lupin can play it cool but with Herlock? Heh heh, he's not so smooth and I find it funny. Thank you Herlock for bullying the gentleman thief./lh

Least favorite thing about them: HE NEVER GOT ANY ALTERNATE OUTFIT SPRITE IN WINTERTIDE MIRACLES! THAT AND NO SPECIAL EPILOGUE! I CANNOT BELIEVE HE WAS ROBBED LIKE THAT!

Favorite line: I have a fascination with miserable men who are heavily associated with themes of sin and forgiveness. Just look at my favorite line from Herlock:

The one who can forgive you... if not you. Even if you sacrifice your life as atonement, that is only for your own self-satisfaction. And that... will never be forgiveness.

Talk about harsh. Painting the picture that guilt isn't easily escaped and atonement isn't so simple a process. In his words, forgiveness relies on an outside party and that's often very true. I like the line philosophically but also how it plays into Herlock's own arc.

brOTP: Herlock & Watson! There's no other bro team for Herlock than that!

OTP: ... Herlock x me. A-again... I love him your honor and I prefer Cardia with Victor or Lupin.

nOTP: Nevermind what I said in the Paschalia section. Exactly one nOTP exists in the world of otomes and it's my nOTP of Herlock x Arsene.

Random headcanon: His house is overflowing with the aroma of coffee beans and tea leaves. Reason being…? He keeps misplacing the blends he already has and buys new ones and so there’s probably 17 different types of coffee and 40 cans of tea leaves in the house that are only partially used. It makes Watson cry.

Unpopular opinion: He would’ve made for a better member of Lupin’s crew than, ironically, Lupin himself.

Song I associate with them: This would be so much easier if Herlock got an image song like the other LIs from Code Realize... I'm Glad You're Evil Too but PinnocchioP. It's a love song but not entirely straightforward as it carries a sad air as the singer calls themself and the listener "evil" (or more literally from the original Japanese a "bad person"). It's a song about flawed people still finding love and joy in their lives. And, well, Herlock deserves love despite his dark past and mistakes.

Especially, Hansel.

He has such an interesting design, would love more backstory of him, a fun relationship between him and Finis - especially if Hansel would get together with Cardia. The potential bickering (on Finis’ side). The potential! The dynamic between them all would be a hilarious ride.

Watson would also be an interesting relationship with Cardia. He would have a different kind of dynamic with her than the other guys - since he is a widow. Plus, matchmaker Sholmes. And this route would also include more terrible homemaker Sholmes.

We had returned to London after quite some time away.

While my lover Sholmes and I were in the middle of a date—.

'—Oh-'

The sound of something snapping echoed along with the sound of his voice.

 Wondering what had happened, I turned towards Sholmes—.

‘Oh? Since when did you start wearing your hair down…..?’

Sholmes’s hair, which was usually tied up, had completely come undone.

Seeing his hair look unexpectedly different, Sholmes laughed as if not sure what to do.

‘Ah, no, I didn’t let it down myself. It would appear that the tie holding it up has snapped.’

As he explained, Sholmes touched his hair as if restless.

Similarly, apart from when it was time to sleep or after he had just come out of the bath, I never saw his hair this way either, so it was a strange feeling for me too.

‘If it makes you uncomfortable, should we buy a hair tie from a shop somewhere?’

‘…..No, I’ve got spares at the office. Let’s continue our date. I could not bear to have my time with you wasted on something that is just for my convenience.’

‘Heheh. You don’t need to worry so much about something like that.’

As he smiled and put his arm through mine, I drew as close to him as I could without it becoming difficult to walk.

And when I did, Sholmes’s free flowing hair touched my cheek.

‘Seeing it like this…..your hair really is very beautiful, Sholmes.’

‘Really? From my point of view I’ve just been letting it grow longer out of laziness…..’

‘.....H~m. That it’s so pretty even without you doing any upkeep on it is kind of unfair I think.’

‘Hahaha. To me, your hair is much more beautiful.’

As if in unison with Sholmes’s smile, the strands of his hair softly swayed in the wind. And as it did—

—Um, excuse me!

‘..........?’

A voice called out from a short distance behind us.

I had no idea who they were calling for but—

‘Oh, it appears they mean us? This voice isn’t a familiar one, however…..’

Sholmes immediately determined that the voice had been calling out to us.

As I stopped walking at the same time as Sholmes, turning around to look behind me—just as he had deduced, I could tell that two men were heading directly towards us, walking quickly as they came closer.

‘Hmph…..Cardia. Just in case, would you mind getting back behind me? I don’t sense any hostility from them but…..considering the level of safety in this area, there’s no guarantee they’re not up to no good.’

‘A-Alright.’

Following Sholmes’s instructions, I took a step back—despite them still being a short distance away.

It was obvious that the men were looking our way as they smiled and waved their hands.

Facing Sholmes, who was being cautious, hiding me behind him, they called out-

—Hey there. What a truly lovely pair of sisters we’ve got here.

—If you don’t mind, how about having some tea with us after this?

‘————’

‘............Huh?’

Sholmes stiffened.

I was having trouble making sense of the words I had heard just now.

...........U-Um-

Just now…..If I hadn’t heard them wrong-

—“Sisters.” Is that what they’d called Sholmes and I….?

‘Um…..Sholmes?’

‘.....Ha, hahaha. Of all things- Not even I could have predicted this.’

—Sholmes’s laugh seemed somehow lacking in energy.

Just as I was wondering what to say-

The men drew nearer to us with rapid footsteps…..finally arriving right before Sholmes’s eyes.

It would appear they had been trying to chat us up in order to take us to tea.

With an expression on his face that could be called friendly, one of the men went to speak to Sholmes.

‘—Hey, what exactly is it you want with me? My apologies, but right now I am in the middle of a date with my beloved.’

Hearing his “voice” as he spoke with a pleasant smile, they froze. Looking baffled, they once more took a good look at Sholmes’s face and figure—noting the “height difference” between him and I, who was hiding a little ways behind…..it appeared they had finally noticed that Sholmes was a man.

—P-Pardon us…..!!

Seeming truly awkward as they apologised, the men quickly took their leave.

…..However, it was even more awkward for us, still standing in the same spot.

‘.....Sholmes. Um, that was…..?’

‘My hair being unbound as the cause notwithstanding, to think I would be mistaken for a woman…..and that you and I would be taken for sisters is something I really did not expect.’

So speaking, he sighed.

All the same, since they had been able to realise that he was a man straight away, it appeared he had not taken too great a shock from what had happened.

Even so, Sholmes, in his own way, was likely at least a little perturbed—

‘.....If anything…..perhaps I should take this as an opportunity to cut my hair once and for all. If I do, there won’t be any more strange misunderstandings, like just now—’

‘Y-You musn’t!’

Hearing me raise my voice so suddenly, Sholmes’s eyes widened.

Still, there was absolutely no way I could accept what he’d said just now…..!

‘I-I like your hair, Sholmes…..! And also, if you cut it short, I won’t be able to do the hair care I always do for you after you have your bath…..!’

Hearing me insist so strongly, to the point that even I knew I’d gotten too worked up—

‘—Fufu, I see. That certainly would be…..a problem. We’d be losing out on one more reason for us to touch each other.’

Smiling, Sholmes nodded.

‘.....I understand. If it bothers you that much, I shall give up on cutting my hair. However, let’s see…..perhaps in exchange…..Cardia. Even if it’s just a little, why not try growing your hair out longer too?’

‘.....? Me?’

‘Yes. Ever since we’ve met, you’ve had the same hairstyle, right? Of course, even now you are more than lovely enough but…..’

Sholmes suddenly took up a tuft of my hair—.

‘I, too…..would love to see your beautiful, shining hair gently swaying in the wind.’

Without hesitation, he kissed me affectionately—.

Code Realize Love Interests Review

So I have finished the first code realize game and started on blessings however I really don't see my mind changing on the men I love and in the order I love them in. So here is my review of the wonderful men and where they hold a place in my heart within this series. This is based more of the games than the anime since anime only puts cardia with Lupin. There will be spoilers so if you have yet to play then I would say hold off if you plan to.

Saint Germain - This is a beautiful, beautiful man inside and out. He really is passionate and has a heart of gold you just have to get to a point where you see this part of him. He is loyal, loving, and will absolutely die for the love his life. He can be a bit possessive but at the same time its a very sexy appeal to him. He will protect at any cost the one he loves even kill all the apostles or give up immortality and die. He is very affectionate and loves to show off with kisses. He has such poetic words that take my breath away especially in the bridge scene where he tells cardia if she is a monster so is he, if she shouldn't live nor should he etc. This man is not only attractive, I mean absolutely gorgeous but he matches it with his personality yet never lets looks keep him humble. This mans emotions when he feels he could lose cardia breaks me I have never cried so much in games until this man. He can pull at my heartstrings like no other. Even when he feels he could lose her to Lupin in blessings him begging lupin to say nothing of his insecurities to cardia I couldn't help but break down crying. I love Saint Germain and I truly love, loving him.

2. Impey - Now this one creeped up and was a complete surprise to me. So first of all his story brought tears to my eyes especially the sad ending. As for the anime he annoyed the piss out of me he seemed like a cocky stalker to me. So he was the first I romanced in the game to get him over with because I just didn't see how I would like him. Well here is where the surprise is he admits the reason he is flirty from the start is because he believes in love at first sight and believes he has fallen for cardia the day he meets her. He is also the one that no matter the route your on he wants you to be happy even if its not with him, he is the only one like this. He has such a gentle soul and as you let him in you find he is such a loyal person to his love and to his friends. He dreams big but he wants to take the woman he loves with him and show her off no matter what he wants people to know not as a possessive way but as a proud to be hers way.

He is the first to propose like he has no doubts all in just say the word. He would follow cardia through anything all she has to say it. Due to this if someone he is in love with was to say bad things or shut him down it would crush his soul I believe. He is protective and would die for the one he loves even if its not the smart move he makes the decision on his own. I think Impey would make a good husband and provider and even though he is a vampire he does not let this render him from doing anything but protecting the people that mean most to him. He does have more humor but he is very optimistic. I like to call him my little dreamer boy because the stars in his eyes really do shine brighter than any other love interest. He isn't afraid to sit by his loves bedside and hold her hand when she is sick, or kick someones butt for saying something he finds rude to her. He will take her to the moon one day and kiss her where no gravity can hold their hearts down. Thank you Impey for showing us how to be loved so purely and unconditional.

3. Herlock Sholmes - So after finally finishing his story I felt the need to update this all and change my order. This man is flirty, and passionate and mischievous. I love it and he drips sex appeal even when he don't try. He holds himself like a gentleman and will protect Cardia at any cost. He is the prince charming that will wake her from her slumber as well as will wait for her to be by his side with no other women to distract his end goal. He is adorable in how he proposed and the fact he comes to see her often in a years time to leave her flowers and such makes him such a genuine character that he has a part of my heart as well. I did a more in depth review of him but I will leave it as he is the kind of man I would be ok holding my heart even if he can't clean or cook he can look good while you do it for him and gives you eye candy.

4. Victor Frankenstein - I really had no interest in him from the start of the game because based on the anime he seemed like a quiet little mouse that I just couldn't imagine a good romance from. Omg I'm so happy to say I was wrong this man has alot of pain in his past but once he lets cardia in he has so much love to give. He has such a soft and romantic heart he is the kind that you could see growing old with and would be there holding your hand as you age telling you how beautiful you get with every day. He is the type you would want to be your soulmate thats for sure. Then come into blessings and he blew me away he isn't just a quiet mouse that stands beside you no he will stand between you and anyone who could cause you harm. He showed a very strong protective side as well which I was so happy to see. His story did make me cry in some parts but this is what I love about Fran he really is a great man and his looks weren't top for me but this ginger boy grows on you and becomes a little more attractive every time he opens his mouth. He is as about as innocent as cardia though I doubt he has even lost his virginity but thats what makes them super cute together.

5. Arsene' Lupin - Ok everyone knows he really is Cardia's great love and I mean it isn't hard to see it whether in the anime or the game. I do like them together and I feel like he would love her to his dying breath. I just worry would he ever truly be able to give up life as a thief and give her the home she truly deserves without stealing everything. He showed how loyal and how much he would take care of her emotionally and love her though so I do respect him for that. I can see how he looks at her and his gentleman ways make him quiet a catch. He is also attractive something about him wearing that mask is just so hot. Anyways I do love lupin please don't misunderstand that and not only is he a good guy and love interest his love is pure he looks no where else. I feel like he pushes her to be better and to protect herself. He gives her street smarts and teaches her the ways of the world he isn't over protective he wants to see her shine on her own while he holds her hand. He keeps to his promises at any cost and that I can respect him for. All in all I do think he is a good one.

6. Abraham Van Helsing - So based off the tv anime I really thought I would like him, I did worry about how broken he was from losing his wife and kid but was surprised how in the game its his mom and brother he loses, not sure why that was changed. Anyways you can tell apart of him is broken and he struggles to let someone in although I see their point of changing to his mom and brother so that he would want to have a romance again in the game but I feel like the pain you see in Van honestly fits closer to someone who did lose a wife and kid. Also I feel like cardia helped him by just being stubborn as he was just to get close to him. He will always be a protective soul especially after losing his family and blaming himself in some way for not being protective enough.

He also believes the woman he loves he wants her to be able to take care of herself if he doesn't get there in time. He is probably the most stubborn one cardia has to push through to love and lacks alot of romance that I wish was there. That being said Van still is a good guy and when he learns to let her in he wants to show her the world. He over comes so much to be the guy she needs in her life and I respect him for that. I was surprised the naughtiness he had in him after they were together though that I did no see coming but oh was it worth seeing him naked in bed.
