Uhhh okay so this post might be weird or stupid and I may delete it haha
But I’ve been wanting to read the original “The Exorcist” book/novel ever since I watched the movie, and I’m wondering if any has/knows the age rating? It’s kinda silly but I have a heavy discomfort with certain topics, I’m fine with violence, gore, and things like that, but not so much of other things. I know this is kinda stupid but if anyone has/would like to make/knows an at least somewhat detailed/accurate age rating/content warning that’d be nice :]

there are people who feel rly strongly about not tagging every single element of their fanfic to death & i feel that way abt the CWs in my longform original stuff. for the short stuff i don't mind frontloading that info bc it's short reads where you could get quickly blindsided ... but as sb who hates getting a spoiler list of triggers after the cover page in book-length stuff, i think im either gonna have the info at the end of the book so ppl can jump there to check if needed, or separately on my blog/website.

from an ace perspective i absolutely agree with you idk what those people are on about. there’s soooo many movies with no sex and also even if you’re ace you’re not gonna wither and die if you see a idk 2 minute long sex scene. i understand being sex repulsed i really do but sex isn’t some big bad, it’s a part of life and seeing some actors fuck is absolutely not the same as fucking someone so once again i don’t see the big deal. and if you’re not sure if a movie has sex scenes there’s sites like commonsensemedia which are great for content warnings, i always use them when i watch something with my little brother and they’re 100% accurate
right. Right. if you don’t want to watch something there are ways to find out what a movie contains so you can avoid it. i have plenty of things i don’t want to watch so i don’t watch them. but it’s not up to me to say that the things that make me uncomfortable or trigger me should not exist for others to watch.

Trying to find a Juniper Lee interview and remembered that the tv.com website is actually offline now. so I am met with this when just googling the usual way:
Tumblr media
i can't believe this show is rated higher on imdb vs commonsensemedia????? tho i guess it makes sense since commonsensemedia seems to be a site which actually reviews their reviews.....

been watching horror movies lately and by watching horror movies I mean watching horror movies on my computer with the summary and the commonsensemedia review and the entire transcript open on my phone next to me for the entire duration of the film so I don’t get surprised or sad or scared

I was so grateful I discovered commonsensemedia in its prime!
I used it to see if movies/shows had icky scenes and then I wouldn't watch them if there was too much!
I don't use it now, idr what happened but I remember it became annoying to use. I think it started asking you to create an account? When I found it I could look up stuff without one. Idk if it's still the case.

I mean... Did CommonSenseMedia watch the same show? No positive messages, excuse me?
Also laughing my ass off at no sex, romance & nudity as well as no drinking, drugs or smoking???? Have they decided to ignore Blackbeard and Calico Jack entirely???

What if I make a commonsensemedia account? What if I do it for shits and giggles and then I just decide what I think is age appropriate? Like what if I give honest reviews? I’m not a parent and I am not a minor so I don’t really fit into the chatqrgies given but still!

So apparently, parents are now PAYING "tutors" to help their children play the video game #FortNite better... (WTH) Really?!?! What do you think? First of all, there's rarely a day that goes by when my 7-year-old doesn't ask me to get this game for him. He says "all his friends" play it. But you know what, I have a no-game-console policy in my house, and furthermore I try to make sure games he IS allowed to play on his iPad are age appropriate and according to @CommonSenseMedia Fortnite is NOT appropriate for children under 12. What do you think about this? Do you let your younger kids play this game? And if so, do you know how the game works and the violence/guns involved in it? I'm curious to know because if you don't let your kids play this, I need help! What do you tell them and how do you not give in? Today we are shamelessly reposting from @wildkrattstv as we're heading off this afternoon for a glamping weekend! Anyway - as a bit of a tech-head, I do believe that not all screentime get in the way of kids connecting more with nature. For example, Wild Kratts is one of my son’s favourite #tvseries on @netflixuk - it’s an animated show based on real-life #zoologist brothers and teaches kids about #wildanimal species. 🐵⠀ Kids can learn about animal behaviour and habitats plus also about conservation and environmental issues. My son loves it and often brings up interesting facts & figures in conversation that he's learnt from watching. We'd totally recommend checking it out, especially as it gets 4/5 on #commonsensemedia. #tech #switchon #science #tv #parenting #nature #homeed #conservation #youngnaturalist ⠀ ...⠀ "WOW Fact Friday! 🙌⠀ ⠀ Praying mantises can be found all over the world. There are over 2,400 described species, but many more exist and are waiting to be discovered! They come in a variety of shapes and colours and are masters of blending into their surroundings. Some resemble the bark from a tree or petals on a flower, while others mimic dead leaves blowing in the wind!⠀ ⠀ One reason for their cryptic nature is that these predatory insects like to ambush their food. They will lie in wait for prey to venture within range. When they do, the mantid lunges forward and extends its raptorial arms, reinforced with muscles and sharp spines, in one speedy execution. Their warrior-like strike can happen in 30 to 50 one-thousandths of a second! That’s quicker than the blink of an eye!⠀ ⠀ Mantises are known for their lighting fast front legs, but they can also be statue-like too! Praying mantises can hold still for hours in order to avoid detection from predators like birds, spiders, and even other mantids!⠀ ⠀ #wildkratts #wowfact #prayingmantis #krattbrothers #chriskratt #martinkratt #animals #insects #creatureadventuring #animation #pbskids" https://www.instagram.com/p/CGHhW1JnlLf/?igshid=1j99s839poglr
