I know very little about this form of computation (the most I know about it is from the first few chapters of How to Create a Mind by Ray Kurzweil, a very good book about artificial intelligence which I should probably finish reading at some point), but I imagine the cognitive structure of iterators is arranged in a very similar way.
I personally think that the neuronal structure of iterators closely resembles networks of fungal mycelia, which can transmit electrical signals similar to networks of neurons. The connections between their different components might resemble a mycorrhizal network, the connections between fungal mycelia and plant roots.
Iterators, being huge bio-mechanical computers, probably use some combination of the above, in addition to more traditional computing methods.
Anyway... this ask did lead to me looking at the wikipedia articles for a couple of different cellular automata, and this one looks a LOT like the memory conflux lattices...

«Kolam (in Tamil) or Muggu (Telugu) is a traditional art form from South India. Kolams are auspicious drawings on the floor (usually at the threshold of the home) using rice flour. Kolams are traditionally made by women and created before sunrise. They comprise mathematically complex patterns that feature continuous intertwined lines. The drawings are notably ephemeral. They are disturbed throughout the day by wind and footsteps or as insects consume the tiny grains of flour. There are many variations of Kolam designs but there is one essential property: they must use continuous curves in which there are no breaks and the beginning and end-point are the same. Many Kolams also feature a grid of dots that follows the Fibonacci sequence. Not all Kolams are symmetrical but many use principles of recursion and repetition. I developed a computer program that allows me to translate text into Kolam designs. I first started working with kolams because I wanted to translate my paternal grandmother's name, Swarajyalaxmi into a kolam as part of my mourning ritual after her passing in 2022. kolam.codes is an extension of that work, allowing others to translate names or text of their choosing into kolam designs. To encode text into Kolam designs, I first translate each character into an eight-digit binary code (made from only 0s and 1s). I then map this code onto my starting grid of dots (moving left to right and top to bottom). I use the center of the grid as extra space to work with a grid that may contain more dots than characters. Using this grid as a basis, the algorithm then fills in the sections with looping components, making sure to never connect dots associated with "0" to those associated with "1".»

DPHW, Hypercategorization, and Art within Capitalism
Disclaimer: I’m not theorizing on what DPHW is in universe.
DPHW, as a structural component, connects back brilliantly to its creators, particularly Alex, who runs a podcasting company and therefore professionally deals with targeting content to potential new listeners.
The DPHW is a counterweight to TMA’s entities. It’s the RGB to TMA’s ROYGBIV. It’s hypercategorization, hypercompartmentalization. We know little about it in universe:
It’s a system to very granularly categorize incidents with a 4-digit number.
It’s part of a broader categorization system
Humans act as a slow (and error-prone) LOOKUP() function using paper
Nearly 10 years of familiarity isn’t enough to have the system memorized, though can get you close.
Any incident involving the same main element gets the same number. Any incident with the main element as “Dolls, watching” is 1157. Doesn’t matter if it’s ghosts, cameras, if they’re made of human skin, whatever; dolls that are watching means it’s an 1157.
The last point has been one of consternation for me and others I’ve been discussing it with. It sounds daft.
But maybe that’s the point. Maybe it’s daft because it’s a critique. Hypercategorization drives modern advertising, it’s what puts ads blogs and videos and podcasts in front of us.
To the mighty algorithm, we’re all just a number to crunch to serve us the content that will keep us Engaged and on the Platform. No one knows how it works, it just does; it’s a black box, just like the DPHW.
But that’s wrong. It fundamentally misunderstands our humanity, for we contain multitudes.
Yet the algorithm reflects enough of ourselves to do real work; it may only see the shadows on the cave wall, but that’s better than seeing nothing at all.
Of course Jonny and Alex want to make good art. But for them to make art and a living, they have to get that content in front of an audience, one that will either pay for it directly (eg, Patreon and Kickstarter) or indirectly (eg, ads).
They have to deal with this reality, with the tension between the algorithmically targeted portrait of their target audience and the deep, multitudinous, and complex people their audience is. That’s just part of what it means to be a content creator, to own a podcast company.

i apologise if i’m uniformed, but is there not an issue with generative AI being an environmental drain, so it would still be an environment issue to produce generative AI just to repaint? or am i missing something
I am admittedly tapped out from the energy consumption aspect of the ai image generation debate because I've read arguments about it that range from it being something to keep an eye on to it being less than what gaming takes up (which is a whole thing on its own), but I don't think artists using ai to get inspiration for concepts or composition is bad- if anything this is one of the things ai image generators are good for. I also think that a lot of people who bring up energy consumption specifically to frame ai image generators as being uniquely resource draining are being disingenuous considering how much electricity it takes to simply be a professional artist (especially since streaming is now a huge component of artist marketing). being an artist in the 21st century is literally a precarious computer job. thousands of people slave away for hours to weeks to even months making art they do not want to make, maintaining online presence and connections they hate, simply so they can get a chance to be promoted by an algorithm and maybe get a networking opportunity or paid gig- is this whole process not a frivolous use of electricity? is the issue not Literally capitalism? part of what's so frustrating about the whole ai debate is that it's one of few instances where the exploitation of artists is something semi-acknowledged by the mainstream....but we're starting at the wrong end of the conversation.

I sent an email a month ago about KOSA before the vote in the Senate. It's now August 26, and I only now got an automated email from his office. I don't think anyone actually reads these bc I was very clear about the fact that I did not agree with this bill and the reasons why, and the email is just them stating that they support the bill and tue dates that it was voted on. Not even addressing any common concerns that I know they've been told. They just completely ignored what I and everyone has been saying about this bill.
I just think it is so disingenuous to just ignore your people concerns. You're supposed to be representing us.

I am a cosponsor of the Kids Online Safety Act. Introduced by Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, this bill would require social media platforms to offer minors options to protect their information and opt out of algorithmic recommendations, give parents new controls to identify negative behaviors online directed toward minors, and create a responsibility for these platforms to prevent and mitigate harms to minors.
The emergence of the internet has given people the opportunity to share information and connect in ways like never before. However, some of this online material poses a real threat to minors. Algorithmic recommendations that cultivate suicidal thoughts and behaviors, drive children to develop harmful eating disorders, and spread hateful rhetoric have helped create a mental health crisis among our youth.
As the Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I have made protecting children online a top legislative priority. On February 14, 2023, I held a hearing that examined the challenges of ensuring online child safety and protecting privacy. I also introduced the STOP CSAM Act (S. 1199), a comprehensive bill that would close gaps in the law and crack down on the proliferation of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online. On May 11, 2023, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously voted to advance this bill out of committee and send it to the full Senate for consideration.
On July 30, 2024, the Senate passed a landmark children's online privacy and safety measure titled the Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act (S. 2073) by a vote of 91-2. This bill is comprised of components of the Kids Online Safety Act and the Children and Teens' Online Privacy Protection Act (S. 1418), including provisions that would establish a duty of care for social media platforms to prevent harm to children and ban targeted ads to children and teens. I voted for the Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act because it is a powerful step forward in safeguarding children on the internet.

Exhibition title: To Be—Named, Curated by Krista Caballero in partnership with Opalka Gallery, Opalka Gallery, Albany, NY, September 1 – October 14, 2023
«Swarajyalaxmi is a work about my centenarian grandmother, her namesake, her life, and how translation mediated our relationship. For this work, I developed a system of translating names into visual patterns inspired by kolams, a type of pattern traditionally drawn on the floor with rice flour. During a performance, I draw the pattern signifying her name. I also play audio from an interview with her a month before she passed away at age 101. The audio shows how my grandmother's name signifies independence in the colonial context, and the interview also highlights her resilience in the face of patriarchal oppressions such as being married at age twelve. Next to the performance, is an etched banana leaf. Banana leaves are part of a mourning ritual that honors three generations of the deceased. While this ritual normally follows a patriarchal line (my grandmother, her mother-in-law and her mother-in-law's mother-in-law), I worked matrilineally, etching three patterns representing Swarajyalaxmi, Kameswaramma (her mother), and Rajyalaxmi (her grandmother). For this work, I developed a computer program that allows me to generate Kolam designs that are embedded with the names of my family. I primarily focus on my paternal grandmother's name, Swarajyalaxmi, and then her mother and grandmother: Kameswaramma and Rajyalaxmi. To encode their names into Kolam designs, I first translate each character into an eight-digit binary code (made from only 0s and 1s). I then map this code onto my starting grid of dots (moving left to right and top to bottom). I use the center of the grid as extra space to work with a grid that may contain more dots than characters. Using this grid as a basis, the algorithm then fills in the sections with looping components, but making sure to never connect dots associated with "0" to those associated with "1". The evaluation was not just a numerical abstraction; it was a multidimensional analysis of the recruits' mental landscapes. The System's revelation of optimal induction piqued 6DG05's interest, and a subtle nod in the HUD indicated a silent acknowledgment.
KO10T's visor displayed the notification, and a momentary acknowledgment flickered in the HUD. The instructors, too, were nodes in this complex network, intermediaries between the recruits and the omnipresent System.
As the recruits received commendations and approval in the form of reward points, the HUDs within their helmets illuminated with a subtle display. HUD Notification: Reward Points Credited
