Language, Linguistics, Literature, Lore
Tumblr media
I think I must have always been a writer. Ever since I can remember, I have been reading and writing. Poetry. Songs. Journal entries. Essays. Short stories. Novels. I think the world is fascinating, and that there is so much joy and novelty in documenting it from one's unique perspective. Because of this, stories, whether gifted or carved, have followed me everywhere, throughout my life.
As I grew older, I developed an interest in anthropology. People. Culture. Language. History. Geography. Philosophy. The whole lot of it had taken a hold of me. There is intrigue in the vastness of human differences; so much beauty to uncover, and so much darkness, too.
I'm not sure when it all came together for me; when my identity, my interests, and my curiosity interwove like three strands of an endless red string working to become some great undefinable fabric that kept me warm at night, but this is what I love.
All of existence blends into a watercolour painting for me; beautiful and articulate in ways I think that only I can describe. Thankfully, I've spent so much time trying to find the right words, for so many different reasons, that it comes much easier to me now (this task of whipping up worded magic) but it hasn't always been that way. I, too, had humble beginnings, and I am still refining my craft. I think that I will probably always be on a refinement journey, for that is the mark of a continuous learner, and that is the burden of a passionate creative.
I have been an observer of reality; a critical thinker; a perceptive spectator to the world around me. Whether reality or fiction, one cannot deny that humanity is greatly enhanced by language in many ways. Linguistics teaches us that language and society are interconnected, making language and culture interconnected, making language and stories interconnected, making language this treasure trove of boundless knowledge, inspiration and motivation.
Writing is my superpower. I think of all the things I have ever tried doing in my life, and I have tried a great many things in my life, writing has always been the one thing I've come back to. I am no longer running from the idea that it is divinely connected to my purpose in this world.
So here it is! A big blog of language, linguistics, literature, and lore! I will be sharing lore from my novels, analyses of my poems, linguistic goodies about the languages I am developing for my fictional worlds, fun language things for language fanatics, my little ol' writer thoughts and opinions, beautiful pieces of literature I have encountered and continue to encounter along the way, and I might even share writing tips, whip up some intriguing essays, and answer questions.
My name is Ciara Marie Attong. I am an author, poet, linguist, conlanger, essayist, and blogger. I am currently in my second year of university where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature with Education. My dream is to continue publishing works of fiction and poetry which reach and resonate with people. I am developing conlangs out of a deep interest in linguistics, language and culture. My hope is that these constructed languages will contribute greatly to the lore of my stories, and heighten the impact of the words and worlds that I present to my readers.
Thank you for joining me on this exciting journey!
With all my love. C. x

Many Tongues of Xefa
Tumblr media
Xefa, meaning sphere, is a new world collaborated with many of the constructed languages that I’ve created for nearly two decades. Xefa is similar to our world though the timeline in Xefa stands within the era of the middles ages (500-1500). So far 18 countries has been created with their own language, leaders, culture and traditions. Xefa is still growing till this present day.
How many constructed languages have I created so far? 18 main core languages and 47 dialects. All together, 65. The more languages I create, the more Xefa begins to blossom.
I will be introducing the languages separately from post to post with given details of how each of them were born.

(also @aeniith, you are especially welcome to chew my ear off about the subject).

hello, i just made a sideblog (constructedlanguages) where i will post information about creating a language. i also offer to help people with creating a language (for free). since you're a good source of advice, i wondered if you could share this resource with your followers. thanks for your consideration!
(Sorry, this has been sitting in my inbox for a while.)
You can check this out here. It doesn’t have many posts yet, but it looks like it could be useful, particularly once there’s more information on it.

kapesi and its etymology
Ancient TP etymon
kapesi brown, grey
My work hypothesis was kapesi 'brown, grey' < maybe from Georgian კაფეში /k’apeshi/ 'in the café'
but via Facebook I've gotten a better etymology :
Zev Brook A case-inflected Georgian word is a big jump, and the semantics are pretty far off as well. What comes to mind for me is Mandarin 咖啡色 (kāfēisè), which means "the colour of coffee". (This Toki Pona word is obsolete, but of current Toki Pona words, Wikipedia quotes 8% of Chinese origin.) I won't hock Sonja by tagging her, but if she sees this post, perhaps she'll
It is in this way that I expressed  my gratitude :
Pite Janseke Thanks alot ! the Cantonese pronunciation (Jyutping): gaa3 fe1 sik1 is even closer to kapesi and its tokiponization would end up as kapesi anyway ! - https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E5%92%96%E5%95%A1%E8%89%B2 (Toki Pona borrows words from Cantonese as wel as Mandarin)
