I had to make some toy bagpipes (for Reasons) and here they are. This is either the most adorable or the most ridiculous thing I've ever made. Possibly both.

Cuppa: hot chocolate
View: boating pond, Queen's Park, Glasgow
This afternoon we had a wee picnic to ourselves, in the company of quite a lot of Glasgow. It was a fresh Spring day and everyone wanted to be in the park.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Glasgow looks smashing on a sunny Spring day. Did you know "smashing" comes from the Scots Gaelic "is math sin" (pronounced like "sma-shin")? A lot of Scottish terms come from the Gaelic. Glasgow has the largest population of Gaelic native speakers outwith the Highlands and Islands, and we say "smashing" a lot here. Related? Who knows?
We came into town to go to the Park Lane Market, one of a number of small craft markets that happen in Glasgow's streets, parks, and in this case, funny wee lanes.

Finished off a pleasant afternoon with an iced watermelon green tea and a vegan cinnamon roll at Hugs & Mugs. This is very much a vegan cinnamon roll type of area.

Glasgow's had a very rough few years for various reasons, but the city's still bonny. The Dear Green Place, just coming into its greenest season.

Moersleutel Cuppa Craft British Stout (Picked up at de Bierkoning in Amsterdam). A 3 of 4. At 12%, this is decidedly un-British ABV-wise, but it delivers a really interesting big stout with British ingredients. Really nice creamy and smooth mouthfeel and a lot of complexity to the roast -- some nice complex coffee and chocolate notes.

A Tiny World
CoD - 141 x Snail (OC/Fem!Reader)
SYNOPSIS : Snail really likes to play Animal Crossing to relax. Turns out, Ghost does too.
WARNINGS : None. But please read the Author’s Note below.
Author’s Note : Snail is an OC that can be read as a Fem!Reader - I do my best no to describe her too much, but may sometimes say that she’s small (height) and has long hair.
I do not give anyone permission to re-publish and/or translate my work, be it here or on any other platform, including AI.
Tumblr media
Playing Animal Crossing is Snail’s way to escape the world whenever she can’t do or focus on anything else.
At the beginning, her first goal is to fill the museum to the brim - which she does pretty quickly, allowing her character to sit on a bench in front of the exhibits and enjoy the music playing in her ears. The aquarium is her go-to place to fully relax. Sometimes, she even falls asleep, leaving her little persona to bob her head left and right while watching the fishes.
When she really wants to empty her mind, she focuses on building her own little world. She’s quite indecisive about the theme she wants to follow to decorate her island, which leads her to divide it in multiple « regions ». Each one has an aesthetic that progressively gives way to another one, like a natural border that allows her to create a smaller theme in-between.
To go with these regions, she’s made different characters. They, too, live in a house and are dressed to fit a specific theme, and she enjoys crafting stories for each one of them. Her favourite house is like her own little museum, filled to the brim with curiosities of all kinds. Insects, fishes, plants, skeletons… The main room looks like an old apothecary shop, and a part of her longs to be able to make her own apartment a real version of this virtual house.
Ever since he stumbled upon her playing quietly in the common room, Ghost has been sharing this moment of peace with her, watching her play, learning about the game and the little world and characters she’s bringing to life. He rejected her offer to create his own character in there, but it doesn’t stop him from sitting next to her and throwing a few glances at the screen while reading or watching TV, or fully focusing on it while sipping on a cuppa.
« You sure you don’t even want to try playing a little bit, LT ? » Is what Snail keeps asking every single time - and, at some point, Simon gives in.
He finds that he really enjoys fishing the most, hunting bugs being a close second. Snail excitedly explains every single mechanic of the game to him, and the roles end up being reversed. She’s now the one watching him play as he keeps catching the most expensive things for her to sell as if he’s been doing this for his entire life, and he quietly listens as she blurts out random trivia about whatever fish or bug the little character is showing off.
There’s a moment when a neighbour actually manages to steal the expert’s target, immediately digging their own grave. Simon now sees a mortal enemy in them, and is ready to unleash hell on their life whenever he can. Snail taught him how to use the net as a weapon, causing him to whack the poor fellow on sight, despite her asking him to not be too mean. She likes this neighbour - it’s a frog, after all, and they’re nice to her. She does her best to keep them on her island, making it up to them after Simon’s spent at least an hour bullying them.
To try and salvage what’s left of her friendship with that neighbour, Snail introduces him to the islanders she actually wants to move away.
« LT, this one said the custom mushroom dress I made for myself wasn’t fashionable. Can you please help me unleash Hell on them until they leave ? »
« This guy put his house on the beautiful patch of rare flowers I’d made for my new zone. It took me weeks to get them all and now I have to remake everything ! »
« I don’t vibe with this islander. They’re mean to everyone, and made my best friend sad. »
« Equip your net, » is what he always says in return, settling comfortably on the couch before grabbing the controller.
Simon never realised how satisfying it could be to whack the characters of a cute video game on the head in-between a few sessions of fishing. So much that it’s become a little ritual now.
Though he still adamantly refuses to create his own character.

Hello! Can I request Mycroft Holmes with the prompt “your hands are freezing! come here, let me warm you up.”? If you don’t write for him, care to share what crochet project are you working on? (I love your work, both the stories and the crocheting).
Thank you and have a lovely day!
Of course I write for him anon! To be honest, I kinda prefer Mycroft to Sherlock. I went along the sunshine and grumpy route!
As for my crafting, I've got a few dolls I'm working on. I've also just started a new knitting project which'll take me fucking ages with lots of new techniques. It'll be a nice challenge for me though :)
Hope you like the fic!!!
Title: First Meeting
Prompt list: list
Everything tag list: @greenrevolutionary, @byebyebreezywrites, @spngingerbread21, @layazul, @lov3vivian, @simonsbluee
“Oh hello, I didn’t hear you come in!”
Your voice was far too cheerful for the dreary Monday morning. You gave Mycroft and bright smile and you dried your hands on the tea towel. Your raised your eyebrows as you waited for him to answer.
“Umm,” you said at last, “Are you waiting for someone? Did Mrs H let you in?”
“I let myself in.”
“Ah,” you bit your lip and looked away, “are you waiting for Sherlock.”
“Yes.”
“So you’re a client.”
“No,” Mycroft sighed, “I’m his brother.”
“His… oh, so your Mycroft!”
“Sherlock’s mentioned me.”
“Once or twice.”
You threw the towel over your shoulder and walked over, hand outstretched.
“I’m y/n l/n.”
Well, he knew that already. Mycroft stared at your hand for a second before, mainly out of some sense of manners, he took it. You let out a gasp of shock as you looked down at your joined hands in shock.
“Your hands are freezing! Come here, let me warm you up.”
Another reason for Mycroft’s less than favourable mood- he couldn’t find his gloves. Unusual for someone as meticulous as him. He knew everything about everyone (or can easily find out if he didn’t have the information to hand) and yet he couldn’t find his gloves. It must be some childish and petty prank played by Sherlock.
“I must-“ he started but you waved a hand
“I was able to put the kettle on anyway. Besides, I’m sure you’d be more comfortable to wait for Sherlock with a cuppa.”
You came back and put down a plate of biscuits.
“Freshly made,” you said, “I don’t usually but I had more than enough and really I think John and Sherlock needed them more than my colleagues.”
Well, it would be rude to turn them down. Mycroft listened to your chatter from the kitchen. In any other circumstance he would’ve found it inane but instead he found it strangely… he actually didn’t know how to explain what he was feeling.
“Mrs H let me have the flat downstairs,” you said, “reduced rent as long as I sort out the damp. She’s kinda like an auntie to me even though we’re not related. I’ve known her since birth, you see. Anyway, getting a bit off topic,” you came back in and handed him a cup of tea, “here you go, that should warm you up!”
You sat down opposite him and curled up in the chair Sherlock usually occupied. You took a sip of your own drink and said,
“I’m sure Sherlock won’t be long. He had one of his,” you waved a hand and wrinkled your nose, “flashes and ran out. I’m guessing you must be used to them.”
“Hmm.”
Mycroft gave you a tight lipped smile as he took a sip of the drink you had given him. Loath as he was to admit it, you were right- it was warming (and you could surprisingly make a decent cup of tea). You gave him a bright smile as he did so and Mycroft felt the unfamiliar, but not unpleasant, feeling return. This could become dangerous.
The sound of the front door slamming open caused you to jump and you hissed as the hot liquid splashed onto your fingers. Mycroft glared at the door as it flung open and his brother stood in the doorway. His gaze flicked between you and Mycroft and he could see the cogs turning in his head.
“See,” you said brightly, “I told you he wouldn’t be long.”
You stood up and walked towards the door.
“I’ll leave you two to it. I’m sure you have matters of great national importance to discuss.”
“I doubt it.” Muttered Sherlock
“I’ll return your mug later Sherlock,” you said, ignoring his comment, “maybe I’ll see you around, Mycroft.”
“No you won’t.” Sherlock said before Mycroft could reply
Sherlock firmly put his hands on your shoulders and gave you a push out the door. You gave him an affronted look but didn’t comment. Yes, maybe Mycroft will see you again.

I saw an anon ask to @russilton about pregnant George learning to crochet and this just instantly came to me and I had to get it down.
I’ve never written gewis before so this was fun!
✨✨✨
George is nothing if not an over thinker. Lewis knows that much.
So it’s not a total surprise to find an empty spot next to him in bed at 2:36am.
George does this sometimes, when his mind is working overtime and he has so many thoughts going through his brain that he finds himself getting restless and feeling smothered by the rumpled bedsheets and another warm body snoring next to him, so takes himself off to make a cuppa in the kitchen where he can take a moment to breathe and focus his mind into the night sky past the kitchen window and on the life still bustling about below. He’ll spend half an hour or so there before feeling calmer and able to slip back in beside Lewis, no longer feeling overwhelmed and instead snuggling back under Lewis’ arm to cuddle in close. Lewis panicked the first few times it happened, demanding to know what was wrong and wanting to help but now he realises that sometimes George just needs that space and he’ll come back when he’s ready.
So he dozes off again, fully expecting the next time he wakes to find his missing boyfriend back where belongs.
It’s 4:24am and George is still missing.
This starts setting alarms bells ringing in Lewis’ head because this is unusual. It’s been almost 2 hours and he’s still not come back. Lewis knows George has been doing his disappearing act a little more lately, knows the kind of thoughts he’s having and knows now more than ever George has been feeling especially claustrophobic when he gets like this.. but Lewis can’t help but worry. Even if George waves him off to go back to bed, he needs to find him.
So he shoves his slippers on and stumbles into the kitchen, expecting to find him there sipping on his camomile tea, sleep creases on his face, hair wild. But he’s not.
He checks the living room - not there. Bathroom? George has been known to spend quite a bit of time in there as of late so it’s not unreasonable Lewis thinks. Not in there either.
Then he realises there’s only one room really left to check.
Walking back down the hall, he notices the door slightly ajar so knows he’s right. Pushing it open more, he’s immediately hit with the soft glow of the lamp on the dresser and the comfy armchair in the corner is filled with George’s lanky limbs and rounded belly. And he’s - knitting?
“George?”
Jumping at the voice, George looks up and freezes mid stitch, cheeks blushing red at being caught. “Hi.”
“Hey.” Lewis replies dumbly, moving into the room and leaning up against the changing table. “You’ve been gone ages.”
“Oh, sorry..” George apologises, just now spotting what the time is by the clock on the dresser, “lost track of time.”
“What are you doing?”
“What does it look like?”
“Ok… why are you knitting at four in the morning?”
With an exasperated sigh, George lays his craft on his belly, “it’s not knitting, Lew, I’ve told you, it’s crochet.” He explains, as if Lewis is the dumbest guy ever to not know the difference no matter how many times George has told him now, “and I just thought I should carry on making some cute things for her.”
After not being allowed to race anymore, George had to find something else to occupy his time. Lewis genuinely thought he’d just stay at the pit wall or hang around the garage, not being able to stay away but no. He went into full on nesting mode and decided he wanted to learn a new hobby that would benefit the baby so crochet it was. He was actually pretty good - although Lewis knew George was great at anything he put his mind to - and had already made a few hats and a blanket for her and made Lewis a scarf which he wore at the very next race, showing off George’s accomplishments.
“Right…” Lewis is still confused at the explanation but thinks there’s a little something more to it. “And you thought this time of morning was the ideal time to start?”
“Mhm.”
Lewis watches him for a moment, his concentration fixed as he methodically follows the YouTube tutorial which he’s only just now noticed George has up on his phone perched on the arm. It’s suppose to be a cardigan apparently, looks like it’ll turn out super cute with the colour matching the already made blanket and Lewis would be lying if he said he couldn’t imagine how adorable their daughter would look in it. But so far George had only made the back and half an arm so there was still some way to go. He’s impressed with how good it looks already. He watches him a little while longer, noting the characteristic crease between his brows and knows he’s trying his hardest to quiet his brain. Bending down to be level with him and earning a quiet snort from George as his knees creak with the effort, Lewis places his hand on George’s knee, gaining his full attention once more. “Babe, talk to me.”
He doesn’t expect it, but George suddenly tears up and it’s like once he’s started, he can’t stop. Startled, Lewis pauses his video for him and gently takes the half made cardigan and crochet hooks out of George’s hands and places it down on the floor carefully before pulling him in for a hug. He lets George cry it out before he feels ready to talk, running a soothing hand up and down his back, letting his nails lightly scratch at the same time the way he knows George likes. It’s a little awkward of an angle especially with the bump but Lewis doesn’t care. “Talk to me.” He repeats softly.
Letting out a choked breath as he stems his tears, George sits back and places his hands around his bump protectively, rubbing his thumbs on the skin where he can feel her wiggling about. “I just.. I just want things to go right.”
“What do you mean?” Lewis asks
“Well, like, what if something goes wrong with the birth? What if I do something wrong and it hurts her? I haven’t even packed a bag yet and there’s only a few weeks left to go and there’s so much to do in here still! And what if when she is here we don’t know what to do with her? Like how will we know what her cries mean? Or what time to put her to bed and wake her up? How will we know when to start helping her to roll over or crawl or walk? Or what if she doesn’t like us? Doesn’t like me?” He finished his ramble with a big stuttering inhale, blue eyes wide and watery.
Lewis knew George was a pretty emotional person anyway but pregnancy hormones had amplified that. So he knew not to react unkindly despite how silly some of the things he was worried over sounded. “George, babe, listen to me okay? You have nothing to be worried about. The bag thing, we’ll sort tomorrow yeah? Get it sorted, no problem. The room can wait because she’ll be sleeping in with us for at least the next 6 months anyway.” He soothed, “You won’t do anything to hurt her because I know you would do anything to make sure she’s safe. And no parent knows what they’re doing first time round yeah? It’s all learning and trial and error and learning what works for us as a family. And things like walking, we really don’t need to worry about that just yet.” He chuckled, “and of course she’ll like you. She’ll adore you. Just like I do.”
George just gave a pathetic little sniffle as he listened to what his boyfriend had to say. “I’m sorry for being so stupid.” He mumbled, looking down at his hands still rubbing patterns on his skin.
Lewis looked personally offended at that and placed his hands on George’s cheeks getting him to focus fully on him. “Don’t ever apologise for being worried ok? And you are not stupid. This whole becoming a parent thing is really scary for me too, so I’m right there with you but all we need to focus on is not things going right but just doing this together and loving her. That’s all we can do and the rest will follow, yeah?”
George nodded as best he could with his face being held in the protective grip of Lewis.
Feeling satisfied that he understood, Lewis let go and bent down to pick up the forgotten item on the floor. “Now, why don’t you carry on with this for a bit longer? Then we can come back to bed and get some sleep.” Lewis suggested, handing back the little pink half-cardigan.
“We?” George asked, confused, “Lew, it’s okay, you can go back to bed. It’ll be boring just watching me.”
“Nah, I want to.” Lewis answered, sitting back on the floor to lean his back against the dresser and getting comfy. “Besides, I can watch you and maybe pick up a few tips and then we can make a whole wardrobe for her!”
George just let out a snort as he saw Lewis’ cheeky smirk, settling himself to get cosy in the chair again before pressing play on his phone to resume the video.
After half an hour of comfortable, peaceful silence, both men were asleep, letting out soft snores in their soon-to-be daughter’s room.

TEA FOR MY D&D PARTY:
One person... one person mentioned drinking tea, so naturally I had to go into tea witch mode and find just the right tea for everyone in the party. I may not be able to get character art for any of my party, but I sure as heck can pick their tea options. And naturally, they're all from my most favorite Tea Witch shop, Friday Afternoon!
Laucian: High elf divination wizard, loves books and research. Her tea would include rose and citrus, and is caffeinated.
Introducing: The Clockmaker! "If you love to solve puzzles while you sip, this cozy cuppa is just the right fit for you!"
Kathvan: Dwarven Battle Master fighter, former mercenary, grew up in the mountains and brews their own beer. Likes it simple and earthy.
Introducing: Lao Cha Tuo Shou Puer! "forms naturally under the intense heat and pressure of the Shou Puer fermentation pile"
Archera: Tiefling Beastmaster ranger/rogue. Lion companion, "grew up in a forest" according to her. Tea should taste like dirt.
Introducing: Tree-Herder! Tastes less like dirt and more like hiking in the PNW when it's a little drizzly, but the vibe is right.
Sylfina: High elf Glamour bard/ Fae warlock. She's our pretty pretty princess. Jasmine, with light spice requested.
Introducing: Untamed! "Chaotic flowerstorm with bitter center, sharp-tongued and sparkly-eyed."
Belieze: Tiefling Grave cleric/Stars druid. The witchy big sister who hides her trauma by taking care of other people (yes this is mine).
Introducing: Grey Wanderer! "Just the right amount of warmth and body to carry you through your wonderful tales..."
Fola: High elven Shadow Sorceror/Warlock? She's trying to take down the gods. We hate her. She's cool and terrible, and has excellent taste. If you couldn't tell, this is one of the DM's baddies.
Introducing: IX: For the Tomb! "Dark and layered, precisely crafted with intention and intended for a different destiny."

honestly would love to hear more about twinflower if you felt like sharing? :)
I have been drafting this ask response on and off for over a week because I want everyone to love twinflower as much as I do thank you for your patience uh I mean yes! I do feel like sharing! thank you for enabling me! make yourself a cuppa and get comfy. it's Gloam's Natural History Hour, and here is everything you should love about the twinflower
Let us begin with the Latin name: Linnaea borealis. But first, it was Campanula serpyllifolia. Let me explain.
Twinflower is a small and unremarkable evergreen plant that nonetheless captured the heart of one of the world's most influential scientists in the eighteenth century. Species Plantarum is best-known for containing the first consistent use of binomial nomenclature (genus and species), but it was also there that Carl Linnaeus described twinflower for the first time.
It is a creeping subshrub that grows along the ground, with green and glossy shallow-toothed oval leaves about the size of dimes. Blooms come from delicate hairy stems that have unfolded themselves to the comparatively towering height of two or so inches above the ground. They are pinkish-white, nodding, and look like the sort of thing you'd imagine a fairy lives in. As you might suspect from the name, they grow in pairs. Some three centuries after Linnaeus first described it, one Mark C. in the comments of a 2013 blog post described the fragrance as "a delight to the most jaded sniffer".
In portraits, he is often found holding it. (Linnaeus, not Mark C.) He dearly loved it. But he could not name twinflower after himself: at first, it was classified in a different genus, and besides, it was poor taste. What's a guy to do?
Become acquainted with a wealthy Dutch botanist, Gronovius, son not of preachers and peasants but classical scholars, who would name it for him in his honour. Naturally. In gratitude, and advocacy for such acts of commemorative botanical naming, Linnaeus wrote in Critica Botanica:
It is commonly believed that the name of a plant which is derived from that of a botanist shows no connection between the two...[but]...Linnaea was named by the celebrated Gronovius and is a plant of Lapland, lowly, insignificant, disregarded, flowering but for a brief space — after Linnaeus who resembles it.
He would go on, of course, to receive fanmail from Rousseau. Contemporary Goethe would later write: "With the exception of Shakespeare and Spinoza, I know no one among the no longer living who has influenced me more strongly."
Lowly Linnaeus himself chose borealis, for Boreas, the Greek god of the north wind; and indeed it grows where the north wind blows, in a great circumboreal ring around the globe, from semi-shaded woodlands in southern British Columbia (hello), to tundra and taiga in Sweden and Siberia. You can find the same blooms in China and Poland and Minnesota. It's as old as glaciers. In Poland and other European countries it is in fact protected as glacial relict, and you can find it isolated at high elevations far south of its range, where it was left behind in the Pleistocene.
And now it is Linnaea borealis.
When Linnaeus was ennobled twenty years later for his services to botany, zoology, and medicine, he put the twinflower on his coat of arms. Some references use hedging (pun intended) language to describe their relationship: he was 'reported to be fond'. It was 'rumoured to be a favourite.' Bullshit, I say. He was in love. Anyone can see it.
One final etymological point of interest: his surname is itself borrowed from nature. After enrolling in university, his father had to abandon his patronymic last name and create family name. A priest, he created the Latinate Linnæus after linden - the great tree that grew on the family homestead.
And so from Latin and nature sprung the name, and not a generation later, unto Latin and nature it had returned. A name crafted of whole cloth in homage an enormous tree now describes the genus of a plant that tops out at three inches tall and has flowers smaller than your thumbnail.
In spite of this, its uses are myriad. A common name of twinflower in Norwegian, nårislegras, translates to corpse rash grass, for its use in treating skin conditions. It can be made into a tea to take in pregnancy or provide relief of menstrual cramps. Scandinavian folk medicines use it for rheumatism. Humans have made it into teas, tinctures, decoctions, poultices, and even administered its therapeutic properties via smoke inhalation. And then there is its persistent and widespread use in filling our hearts: lending itself century over century and season over season to mankind, to a coat of arms, a poem, a photo, a fond memory—
Ralph Waldo Emerson, in Woodnotes I, says this of twinflower and the man it's named for:
He saw beneath dim aisles, in odorous beds, The slight Linnaea hang its twin-born heads, And blessed the monument of the man of flowers, Which breathes his sweet fame through the northern bowers.
Art is subjective, but I will happily admit I prefer this passage, from Robert of Isle Royale, on the website Minnesota Wildflowers:
My wife and I encountered Linnaea borealis in the last week of June 38 years ago on Isle Royale. We now live in Vilas County in northern Wisconsin and were happy to find a large patch of Twinflowers growing under the sugar maples, balsam fir and hemlock on our property there. This is now very special to us and we await their flowering each June around our anniversary.
A final note. Twinflower requires genetically different individuals to set seed and reproduce sexually. This is known as self-incompatibility. Thus the plants in those isolated spots - old glacial hideouts, or places with fragmented plant populations like Scotland - only reproduce clonally. Let us end with imagining a plant that has not reproduced with another for millennia, but instead carries its line on its own back, and survives by creating itself over and over again, in a genetically identical colony that grows with wet summers and shrinks with dry ones; that briefly blooms every June, lifting its flowers high above itself, a hundred tiny beacons that will be answered only by its own voice; and there, too far for pollination, but a distance you or I could travel in minutes, is its nearest partner, doing the same thing, across an impossible void that looks to us as nothing more than a gap between one part of the woods and the next. Yet it is L. borealis, named for a man named for a tree, that is capable of looking out across generations of humankind walking fragmented pine woodlands and the ghostly southern border of the Laurentide ice sheet, and seeing nothing more than the gap between one seed-set and the next.
Let us end with imagining a tiny plant, and ourselves beside it, loving it for hundreds of years, even smaller.

After seeing @ivys-garden posting about ponds and lakes yesterday I wanted to pitch in with something I would like to see in minecraft.
This won't be as thought through or elaborate I'm afraid but I would like to add...
✨️☕️coffee☕️✨️
Ideas for coffee in minecraft:
Collecting coffee beans and/or farming them.
Brewing coffee on a special barrista crafting table.
Mining ice from colder biomes to get ice cubes for the queers.
Milk and sugar for those who like it.
Making cute little pottery or porcelain mugs from clay.
Getting a speed boost from drinking a cuppa! 🏃💨
Ooh, I guess I would also like some chairs and tables I could actually sit at to drink them.
What items and/or consumeables would you like added to minecraft?
