Hi there!

So, I was supposed to be on a break until the end of the month. That is, as you can probably see, over. Things happened and writing is my best escape. I am, however, slowing down the updates, and I'll likely never have the same update speed I did while I was starting Lost.

3. In your opinion, what’s your best fic?

Oh easily my latest fic and magnum opus, A Crown with Gems and Gold. Setting aside the sheer word count (and growing!), I've experimented a LOT with this fic, particularly as far as writing several actions scenes (the bane of my existence), writing believable characters to a scenario that's easy to fuck up (established relationships shouldn't magically change the characters!!), and having some fun with an unreliable narrator (Ling bby...). I've also been the most self-indulgent I've ever been with this; see: aroace ed, dark ling, edgreed, etc. Overall it's my pride and joy, so yeah, I do think it's my best!

8. What’s the oldest (longest since last update) fic you most want to continue (unfinished or no)?

Oof, that has to be my pitch pearl fic Of Starlit Pearls. I was going for a similar "canon but established relationship" kinda plot, but looking back on it, Danny's character could use a lot work, and I stopped at such a compelling part?? Like I finally got to the Freakshow arc, which I remember being out-of-my-mind excited for. Buuuut I'm not really in the DP scene anymore (*cough* for several fandom reasons *cough*), so that's not actually gonna happen lol.

19. If you had to pick one fic/scene/chapter of your work to describe your entire portfolio to a stranger, which would you pick?

Hmmmmm this is a toughie. I dunno if I can pick a single scene. A single chapter tho... maybe ch2 of Crown. Cuz that one really has it all: action, emotional turmoil, established relationship goodness, and good ol' character development between not only ling and mustang but ling and al too. I'd say it's my best chapter, tbh. So, that!

29. Does the division of your writing across fandoms line up with your reading? What’s the biggest discrepancy?

I'm guessing this means do I read exactly as much as I write for certain fandom...? In which case, absolutely not. I've written the most for DP, and I already said I'm not involved there anymore. FMA is the runner-up, and, um... I don't really read as much there anymore either. Due to several popular fanons that I don't personally agree with. And other fandom reasons. On the flip-side, I read A LOT of rottmnt when I was hyperfixating on that and I only wrote one fic for it, same for httyd. So, yeah, overall, there's def a discrepancy across the board.

Looking for rp partners part two

This will be my fandom list. If you looked at my rp kinks for part one then you may have found yourself here. Again this will be 18+ so looking for rpers who are comfortable rping such things. This will cover a wide range of fandoms and I may forget some so that is on me, otherwise if you look at this thinking tame or rather softcore, it might not work. A lot of times smut is often going to outweigh plot though not like it won't be there.

There might be titles in here you don't know and there might be some you aren't familiar with. My advice is don't force yourself to do something in that scenario. Her attention drifts; not for the first time she wishes they were nearer a larger city rather than dead center in yet another stretch of cookie cutter cul-de-sacs filled with cookie cutter families and their cookie cutter thoughts—if any of them can be bothered to think at all. She's tired of suburbanites gawking down their noses at her and the rest of the troupe, as if they're less for being what Freakshow made of them. She aches for excitement, for fear. She can't remember the last time she truly got to scare anyone.

scare(d): {Confused,} you chitter once you're both settled. {Where? Where before? Scared. Tired.}

{Confused,} the other agrees. {Tired. Rest.}

{Where? How? You?}

{Rest,} it repeats, and elbows you. Static jumps between your green hides, sharp and startling. You both hiss pain. You snarl, daring it to try that again. In turn it makes a new sound, something—grinding. Mechanical. You think of running water, a tangy and clean smell, the ability to make that sound via the flick of an innocuous switch. You have no idea what any of that means. You're pretty sure in this context the noise the other's making is supposed to be laughter. Let it laugh. abrupt(ly): Better late than never he falls through the apartment before the ghost can sink its huge horsey teeth into him again, swooping through somebody's living room and out a window to land a solid punch to the back of its head. He regrets it immediately. Sure, it sounds like the ghost doesn't appreciate getting clocked at something like 60 miles per hour by a guy strong enough to dent steel, but he also earned himself another shock for his effort. It's pure luck his abruptly clamping teeth don't bite his tongue in half.

The ghost peels off, whinnying furiously. Danny doesn't hit the sidewalk four stories below by dint of sheer stubbornness. He groans, residual tremors leaving him feeling nearly as weak as a hit from the stupidly-named Plasmius Maximus. He has to look at his hands to check he hasn't reverted back. It's not even much of a relief to see white gloves instead of human hands; he still has to beat this asshole.

i’m still, still dreaming magnificent things

abrupt(ly): “It’s no different from a child who hides the sheets after he wets the bed,” Dad continues mildly. There’s no anger in his voice, only disappointment. It’s somehow so much worse. “You were running away.”

“Stop it,” Alphonse pleads. “Don’t—”

Ed loses what little restraint he had. Ed screams. “What would you know?! You're the one who left us! You've got no right—!"

And just as abruptly, Ed breaks off, face twisting in some miserable mix of fury and grief as he spins on his heel, making a beeline for the cemetery's entrance.

Alphonse jumps in front of Dad the moment he sees his mouth open to call after Ed. "Leave it alone. Please, Dad, don't push him—"

your head will lie in dust

abrupt:  “Damn,” Zampano mutters. “I got it,” Ed says, and claps his hands. 

Hohenheim hauls Zampano back as hungry tongues of red light lash out from Ed's feet, deconstructing without bias, reconstructing with shocking speed. The different materials smear and tangle with one another to create a clear path, abstract and abrupt, scaly with transmutation marks sharp enough to cut. Concrete and steel melt, waxlike, into each other. Blue uniform fabric is pinned in place by rivets of yellow bone. Pink muscle ribbons through soft organ meat and polished boot leather. Pale fluids streak down the walls as the transmutation light dies out. The sudden sunlight is blinding after long minutes in near-darkness.

“Damn,” Zampano mutters again, far more shaken.

key: Nazeri cackles. So much for avoiding civil war. Just imagine!

Hohenheim smiles to himself, slotting Lan Fan’s arm into its port and reaching for the hex key he needs to connect the nerves. They’ll just have to wait and see how well Ling Yao and Greed share the throne, won’t they?

O God, Nur groans. Anything but that.

scare: Mei Chang finds him here. She is small, young, fragile. Twelve years old? Thirteen? Only a little younger than his boys, and all alone in this vast and echoing wasteland. “Are you all right?”

He smiles, because that’s what people are supposed to do when someone is concerned; reassure and lie in order to placate social norms. “I’m fine, thank you.”

She eyes him, fidgeting. Thoughts weigh down her shoulders.

You make her nervous, Hohenheim, Shahzad says, delighted.

Rostami laughs. Scare her out of her wits, I think. The other two have been gossiping.

And she’s the only alkahestrist of the lot, Samad adds. You remember how those dusty scholars prettied up your life into neat fables. She must be so disappointed to meet the great Sage himself and have him turn out to be you.

tie: It’s evening now, and [redacted] have been given rooms near the makeshift infirmary. They’ve both recovered from [redacted], at least enough that they no longer stumble or slur, but they’re too exhausted to keep their eyes open. Hohenheim can only imagine what it must be like for them, reconciling how cavernous a body is with only one soul rattling around inside it. How well did he tie their souls to their flesh, their minds to their brains? Do their own thoughts echo out in those empty spaces he didn’t heal right?

Only time will tell.

This is its own post because it’s its own discreet thought but re: disability and writing, there’s a nice little thing I like to think about which is that just about any series about superpowers tends to actually be chock full of disabilities that people- sometimes even the writers- don’t think of as disabilities. This is probably the spirit of the original post- where someone pointed out that the enormous popularity of Fullmetal Alchemist as a series, puts the lie to the notion that you can’t meaningfully have a major action series with a disabled protagonist.

Because FMA has two of its main characters as disabled- both Elric brothers. Ed is literally and quite explicitly a double amputee, while Al’s ailment is a bit more fantastical but vividly and overtly impacts his quality of life- it’s been a good while since I’ve read the series but I recall it being discussed that he can’t sleep or eat, I believe he has impaired tactile sensations, and probably actually has a hard time telling if his body is damaged (such as in the aftermath of Scar’s debut when he goes to grab Ed’s shirt with his arm and said arm just. falls off, surprising both of them)

I think that a sneaky variant of ableism is this- that in the presence of fantastical elements that people often stop viewing this as a disability. And this may well be the root of a lot of poorly-conceived, “character X is blind but has another function that perfectly replaces their vision in such a way that they live exactly like a sighted person does” takes.

But the fascinating thing about this is if you turn it on its head- arguably every single character who has a superpower that doesn’t completely shut off when not in use and can’t be triggered by accident IS DISABLED, or at least, has an extremely strong bridge to being relatable to disabled experiences.

A great example: in the series Danny Phantom, the main character gets his powers from a sudden lab accident. One of the most persistent and involuntarily triggered of those powers is intangibility. It’s mentioned offhandedly in an early episode he’s been banned from handling any fragile school equipment. Considering his intangibility power is one of his defensive mainstays and virtually always triggers when he’s nervous, which, if he’s dropped a bunch of stuff, carrying anything breakable probably makes him nervous, which may or may not trip his intangibility power...

...are we talking about a secret teen superhero, or are we talking about a kid who got into a household accident, got nerve damage, and is now trying to live with being notably, frustratingly clumsier in most aspects of his life?

This is just one case of one power. And the fact that this can coexist entirely with aforementioned problem of “if the disabled character has cool fantasy attached to them, people tend to view the disability itself as fantastical and thus write it out of any ‘normal’ read on the character”,

(which I haven’t just seen in FMA, but Voltron: Legendary Defender also had a surprising number of people omit a major character’s prosthetic arm in various AUs- AUs that found excuses to keep his facial scar and the streak in his hair that happened at the same time)

altogether comes to a frustrating time where you can have a huge number of stories with characters who are functionally disabled, but written or read with a huge denial of the idea this is what we’re talking about.

1) portal accident. In the episode where Johnny tries to save kitty from the portal, jazz loses her arm because kitty bonding to her body goes wrong, and she gets a prosthetic arm FMA style

2) Technus broke into axiom labs again (Mr. "Announces his plans" never learns) while jazz and her class were on a field trip there. Technus hijacked an experimental medical biomatter reprogrammer, and jazz jumped in the line of fire to save someone on the one day she'd told Danny to take off for himself

FMA volume 1 is So superior to FMA:b episode 1 that I have No Idea why they went off piste and made something up that is less relevant to the wider story than just. Adapting what was there.

You get Yoki and Hakuro introduced, the former of which is actually a fairly present character in the tail end of the story, and all the Casual Hints you learn in the first episode are in the first volume but better.

I just don't get it. Why???? We meet everyone naturally in the book, brotherhood just feels like one of those clip episodes they used to do in TV when seasons were 25 episodes long and there was no way to watch an ep again if you missed it. Except it is inexplicably the first episode, and probably leaves people who don't know the story already confused as hell.

What were 14 vs 15 vs 16 year old Chrissy like?

oh, oof, am I gonna tell on myself here? (I file all this under "stupid teenage bullshit" I will accept no judgement.) Anyway these were my internet vibes:

14: fresh out of an "I'm an edgy atheist, I'm gonna argue with christians on the internet!! richard dawkins is a genius!!!" phase. (to be fair, I was forced to go through confirmation as a 13-year-old. I was bitter.) JUST discovered good fanfiction, ENRAPTURED (danny phantom fanfiction by Cordria). Binging it late into the night on a laptop that used to belong to my dad before he replaced his. All of it horrifying angst. I take a stab at my own horrifying angst DP fanfiction. Kicked up a massive Naruto phase. Somehow managed to binge all of Naruto and Shippuden without ever thinking "hey this is kinda mediocre". Death Note and Code Geass. No one else is a weeb. I suffer in silence.

15: stupid Kasey split up our friend group so now I've gone from like, 4 friends to 2 friends. :(. MASSIVE South Park phase (I know, I know, I know). I just thought somehow South Park was so brave and innovative cuz they weren't afraid of censors, they were sticking it to the man, or something something. I was VERY 15. I dropped out of the fandom scene mostly. Read a LOT of creepypasta. big SCP phase. I was really into FMA but the Brotherhood dub was on long LONG hiatus (like, idk, 9 months) so I was gritting my teeth and waiting patiently. Discovered Phantom of Truth and it blew my mind.

16: randomly got super back into Danny Phantom. Friend of mine had told me about tumblr and I was like "wonder if there's a DP fandom on tumblr?" Spoilers: there was. I made an account to chime in about a headcanon. Got MASSIVELY involved right from that get-go (some people recognized me from the fanfiction I wrote when I was 14!) Absolute delighted haze of constant DP fandom activity. Got my angst reputation. Basked in that. Ghost Hunger. Ghost Speak. I'd wake up early-early in the morning before school (like, 5:30 am) to come downstairs and get on the computer and browse tumblr to get caught up to where I was the night before. Didn't have a smart phone yet.
