DBZ Theory - Vegeta's Height
I've had my turn making fun of Toei for blatantly changing Vegeta's height. He used to be shorter than Bulma in DBZ, now in DBS, he's taller than Bulma. Obviously, they did it because it looks weird that Vegeta is shorter than a woman, plus they want him closer to Goku's height. (Never bothered Hiei, thou... just saiyan)
Well, I have a theory more about Saiyan growth in general, all me to explain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sometimes when crafting a theory you need to remember to throw away your preconceived notions. We assume it's weird that Vegeta suddenly got taller, because adult men eventually stop growing. But, remember Vegeta is not an ordinary human man, he is a Saiyan, and we've met a few Saiyans that are noticeably taller then where Vegeta and Goku stand now.
It could be that Saiyans don't stop growing ever. So, it could be perfectly normal that Vegeta suddenly is taller. (Him being shorter in the last episode of DBZ we can call an Animation error.)
I'd like to take it a step further and say this also explains the weird inconsistencies of Saiyan heights.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the two versions of Trunks at 14 years old. He is noticeably taller in the "Bad Timeline" than he is in the normal timeline.
Compare that to how Gohan looked at ten years old. (Adult Gohan and Goku are basically the same height) Or how about the fact that apparently Goku was 15 when he met Bulma.
Tumblr media
(Obviously, the real world explanation is that Trunks and Goten haven't been relevant to the plot in Dragonball Super, so Toei felt no need to update their character models... at least until the DBS Movie.)
It is my theory that Saiyans don't grow until they NEED to.
Saiyan biology has evolved them into perfect fighting machines, so they actually avoid having an awkward, lanky teen phase (for the most part) and just transition very quickly from their child body type, to an adult body type.
And honestly, Toriyama essentially confirmed this a few years ago in the Jaco manga:
Tumblr media
But, I say Jaco's view is biased and limited. It's not just ordinary growth, I'm saying Saiyans actually get taller based on their need to survive and get stronger.
Gohan's childhood was a very uneasy time that lead him to train constantly for basically five years, that it caused him to grow taller in response.
Meanwhile, Trunks lived through essentially 14 years of peace. (In the Buu Saga he was only HALF of a warrior.)
Goku didn't go through a major growth spurt until after clashing with King Piccolo.
This would also explain why Vegeta's brother Tarble is ridiculously small. He's been running away his entire life. He hasn't needed to get taller. (Originally, I thought it was a spacial time dilation thing.)
Tumblr media
And, in training to keep up with Goku, Vegeta's body responded by getting taller... a perfectly normal thing for his Saiyan biology to do.
So, there you go... Saiyan growth never stops. Maybe someday, Goku will be as tall as Raditz was.

it just kind of makes sense okay bc like. we seen two types of yardrats (pink whiskers, green/blue without. im counting jimeze as a pink type shh) and so if we assume they share a common ancestor itd probably have traits of both right? small green wrinkly witj whiskers

Bulma: Look, I know Goku can be aggravating, but you have to remember he's not doing it on purpose. It's just how he is. He’s also loyal, and trustworthy and we have fun together.
Piccolo: You know you just described a dog, right?
Bulma: …he did bite me once. But, in his defense, I snuck up on him while he was eating.

Let me tell you my beef with ChiChi.
Not only is she just poorly written, which I find strange because Toriyama also created Bulma, but I digress:
Goku thought marriage was food, first of all. He was essentially tricked into marrying her. Secondly, I recently learned she was already pregnant with Gohan prior to their wedding; Goku didn’t even know what a kiss was far into his adulthood, yet he’s married and has two children.
Besides that, she’s constantly screaming and even throws things at him. Never mind she knowingly married a fucking radish farmer and is pissed he doesn’t make more money? Like. What? Why is she mad about money? They have a good life. Goku might be absent a lot, but uh.. he died? Saving y’all’s asses? Multiple times? Stfu.
People will complain about how garbage a dad Goku is without remembering he isn’t human. Saiyans ship their BABIES off to decimate planets. That was originally what he was expected to do; Raditz expected it when he got there. Goku isn’t normal by Saiyan standards, most likely because of his brain damage he sustained as a baby.
That being said, I feel like Goku is a victim. Not just of DV, but some darker shit too. He’s just too naive to realize it. Which could explain why he appears to avoid being home and why he prefers the company of others over ChiChi. And there’s no way he doesn’t because he always rather be training if he isn’t working the fields.
Just my theory and observations, of course. But I stand by my assessment of ChiChi being the absolute worst Dragon Ball lady.
PS. I’m not here to debate. No one is changing my mind- even if we all know a lot of this is largely due to poor continuity and unhinged writers. Please, keep any self righteous, angry vitriol to yourself.

You ever think about how King Vegeta may have been trying to keep Frieza from destroying the planet by exiling Broly (going by Dragon Ball Super: Broly’s retelling)?
For all he knew the Legendary Super Saiyan was just a “freak of nature”; they didn’t have much evidence aside from the weird readings they got when Broly was a baby
As much as I hate King Vegeta (and he doesn’t really give much of a reason not to), he has, unfortunately, shown that he has some sense of self-preservation (whether it’s borne of cowardice or not, it’s a bit hard to say, though it’s usually portrayed as such.)
Evidence (to my knowledge):
1. (DBS: Broly) King Vegeta considered Prince Vegeta IV his pride and joy, cared for him immensely, and wanted to raise him to become strong enough to revolt against Frieza (Note that he never specified that he wanted Prince Vegeta to become the Legendary Super Saiyan.)
2. (DBS: i forget which episode/movie specifically don’t kill me lol) King Vegeta regularly met with Beerus. He had a connection to a GOD OF DESTRUCTION. AND he did his best to try and comply with whatever ridiculous demand Beerus made, like finding the softest pillow in the universe (despite Champa cheating.) I think it’s even been hinted that King Vegeta has made REPEATED ATTEMPTS on Beerus’s life/Beerus joking that he would try to intentionally poison his food. So it’s clear Beerus knows King Vegeta holds some serious contempt towards him.
Long story short, King Vegeta’s a complex character with a ton of flaws but it’s interesting to really dissect his story and motives etc.
Feel free to add to this with your own thoughts/evidence/observations/theories etc. lol I wanna hear what y’all have to say :D

want to hear a dbz fan theory?
cw: mentioning of death, favoritism
King Cold loves both of his sons, but of course, he has his favorites. Which we all know is Frieza.
I think the reason why he adores Frieza more than Cooler is because Frieza looks more like their mother, King Cold’s adoring wife. Who suddenly died because Frieza was too strong and considered to be a mutant. (cr. to my partner for the death part!)
Cooler gets a bad rep from his father because, not only is he more distant. He looks more like his father and slightly (only slightly) blames himself for his loving wife’s demise.
TL;DR: King Cold adores Frieza more because he looks like their mother. Cooler looks too much like King Cold and he dislikes that.

Are we sure Gohan isn't a Legendary Super Saiyan ?
Bare with me I have an idea, now for context I'm aware Legendary Super Saiyan is the name given to DBZ Broly, I am using it in place of DBS Broly's Form as it is easier and more consistent than the names he currently has for it.
Now what I mean by this is, I hypothesis that Gohan is like Broly, a mutant Saiyan, my basis for this is the sheer rage they both share.
now, that isn't to say no other Saiyan gets angry or to ignore Gohan's hybrid Saiyan origin, however in that regard if we observe the other instances of hybrid Saiyans neither (for this we observe Trunks and Goten as both are 50% Saiyan like Gohan and have been observed in combat) exhibit the same extreme power boost that Gohan experienced with his rage moments.
Remember Gohan at age four experienced a power boost with his rage so powerful he was able to injure Radius who was multiple times stronger than himself(most sources say Gohan had a power level of 3 and jumped to a power level of 1307, which if cannon is a roughly 453x boost), neither Goten or trunks received such a boost in any arcs they were in, this include future trunks as while his rage moments were more explosive than his younger self's, with the exception of super Saiyan rage which I would chalk up more to him getting Godly Ki by training with Past Vegeta ( though I fully admit this is my interpretation and could be wrong).
From what can be observed Gohan's rage is massively powerful and more potent than other Half Saiyans, which leads me to the only other massive increase Via Rage we see in the series.
In DBS Super Broly, we discover that Broly a mutant of the Saiyan species is able to access the boost of Ozaru form without having access to his tail or the full moon. We also observe the longer he fights the stronger he gets, going from getting manhandled by Ssj1 Vegeta to being able to harm Ssj blue Goku and Vegeta before going Super/Legendary Super Saiyan.
Now assumedly the reason Gohan Was not born with Broly's power level (10,000) is due to his Half human origins, shoving his potential away until his body could handle it (which granted is a stretch though possible as our IRL Bodies hold us back from functioning at 100% as well).
Which then leads me to their transformations, it is widely believed that Gohan's Ssj2 has a higher multiple than other Ssj2 transformations, especially when Gohan is in a state of Combat Atrophy(I.E Buu Saga) during the fight with Dabura who was stated to be as strong as Perfect cell, Gohan was still stronger than him and was able to defeat him. It also never takes long to train Gohan back up to his peak, (I.E Gohan's training with piccolo during the tournament of power that made him on par with that version of Ssj blue Goku )
And this becomes even more amplified when you take into account Gohan's New Gohan Beast form, which I feel like is the equivalent to Broly's Full power Super Saiyan/Legendary Super Saiyan form.
So with all that in mind while I don't believe there will be a twist reveal that Gohan was a Legendary Super Saiyan the whole time it's interesting how alike both Broly and Gohan are, maybe if Paragus was more like Goku or Piccolo Broly would have been more well adjusted and even more powerful.

#Not sure if I’m allowed to pull out these tags as a separate reblog#but that is an interesting and fucked up theory I like it#and absolutely want to hear the long version#vegeta
you absolutely are as far as i'm concerned but since op's post was getting a bit long i'll respond here
dbz always reblog i have a theory that there's actually a reason for this it stems from my theory that vegeta's mom doesn't exist bc he's a clone of his dad basically it eventually become obvious that frieza was going to take whichever kid was heir to the throne so king vegeta (kv i guess) went ''aight we need a Super Baby (no tuffles allowed) and i'm the coolest guy on the planet. need a baby me'' so he gets a bunch of the buffest nerds imaginable (be real saiyan scientists like the job bc they get to fight physics) and start working kv: i need this kid to last as long as possible we're gonna need to buy some time scientists: got it boss *proceed to make the universe's most ridiculously hard to kill infant* how's this kv: excellent. frieza catch! frieza: oh this is adorable! i'm going to traumatize it =) <-an extremely brief summary of my hc
(^the tags in question)
ok so first there are a couple of things i need to get out of the way ahead of time– namely, i'm not the first person to come up with the vegeta-is-a-clone idea; the first person i saw with that idea was someone who wrote a fic i read a while back that i'm blanking on the name of at the moment, and while their version is massively different from mine, the core concept of clone!veggie is more or less the same
the second thing is that i get way too into world building sometimes and so a lot of pieces of my hcs get mixed up with one another and often don't fit in with established canon (which isn't like abnormal or anything but i want to clarify that i already know some of this doesn't perfectly slot up. in my defense the db timeline doesn't even match up with itself half the time)
the final thing is that while i've seen bits of the anime and the first handful of super episodes, i'm mostly a manga fan, so i view any non-manga parts of dragon ball as free real estate
buckle up, i was not kidding about the length (*immature snickering*)
SO.
first and foremost the relationship between the tuffles and the saiyans: the tuffles are described as being a peaceful yet technologically advanced race, but in my hc, they're a bit more complicated than that. for starters, i don't see how a supposedly peaceful race is going to have high-tech blasters, and while it's possible that they're for defensive purposes, it... really doesn't give off that vibe. also they were super into some fairly questionable science, some of which objectively involved human experimentation (or... humanoid experimentation, i guess)
jumping back to the future for a sec: gohan. gohan is a half-human, half-saiyan male hybrid, and while two separate species somehow producing a hybrid child isn't unheard of, male hybrids are almost always completely infertile. and yet, gohan grows up and has a kid (another explanation is gohan and videl are t4t, which i also love, but it doesn't really fit into this). so how are saiyans and humans not only capable of reproducing together, but capable of having children that can also reproduce? my theory here is that saiyans are genetically modified (early) humans– tuffles arrived on earth sometime prior to homo erectus finishing the jump to homo sapiens, grabbed a handful of various lab rats, and got to work.
this would also explain why saiyan tails look the way they do. to elaborate, here's a spider monkey skeleton:
Tumblr media
notice how the tail is made up of more vertebrae that continue along the same curve as the rest of the spine. meanwhile, goku's tail looks like this:
Tumblr media
it juts straight out, almost perpendicular to his spinal cord. to me, that does not look like how tails work– it looks grafted on. in the video game kakarot, bulma even makes goku a fake tail for him to fish with that he can just... stick right on there. i know dragon ball science is already broken af (someone please explain to me how dr briefs isn't basically a deity for inventing capsules), but if the tail is a genetic trait that didn't evolve naturally, it makes some sense (in the way anything in dragon ball makes sense, that is)
so– saiyans are a highly adaptable species that seem to be able to eat basically whatever, can both endure and dish out catastrophic amounts of damage, are biologically driven to fight to the point where it's hard to imagine how a society full of them could function at all, get stronger whenever they recover from being seriously injured, can transform into giant apes, and yet have a glaringly obvious weakness that can pretty much completely incapacitate them if you know about it? they seem designed for war, and not in the natural evolution-is-just-funny-like-that-sometimes way.
what we know about the tuffles sort of differs from source to source, but the most negative opinions come from the saiyans– according to vegeta, the tuffles basically treated them as slaves. which... yeah, that adds up, given everything.
anyway, here's where i divorce from canon entirely bc according to gt, king vegeta iii is the one who led the saiyans in the war against the tuffles, which raises... honestly so many questions. so i'm ignoring that; it was vegeta i and he was never officially king, but more on that later. i also need to note that the whole "saiyans lived on planet sadala, fucked it up, and moved to planet plant which later became planet vegeta" to my knowledge is not manga canon but since i like the general idea, i sorta moved it a bit.
in my version, the saiyans and the tuffles both lived on planet sadala, but the war between the two species got a little out of hand and the planet was kaputski (to be fair, if you suddenly got to turn into a giant ape and wreak havoc on the people who were possibly enslaving you, you might go a bit overboard too), so the saiyans stole all the tuffles' ships and gtfo'd (this is why everyone was so sure the tuffles were gone. bc typically blowing up someone's planet is a good way to get rid of all of them. at least in theory– i'm sure frieza can tell you all about how well it works in practice)
back to vegeta i– he wasn't a king, technically, but he was the saiyan who started, led, and according to all saiyan sources (which are biased but w/e) finished the revolt, and chose to die on the planet in an act of heroic sacrifice and/or symbolism and/or his daughter twisted a fact or two bc propaganda is a game we all can play, and the new planet they landed on was named after him. said daughter took the same name, declared the planet and the king to be one and the same, and set about conquering the shit out of it. so vegeta ii was technically the first king but if you asked her she was the second and also disrespecting her father and probably also about to be killed via spear (oh btw king vegeta ii is famed for her giant war spear which was very cool and intimidating and probably didn't see much use outside of ritual combat bc it's honestly more efficient to just blast people but all the statues and art and whatnot have her with it)
i'm going to take a minute to gloat about vegeta ii bc honestly she's one of my alltime favorite ocs that i've made, despite the fact that i don't intend to ever have her show up in anything (yass gurl haunt that narrative!!!) but basically she's a deeply respected figure in saiyan culture, although she died way before any of the saiyans still alive in dbz were born (except nappa), bc she... basically built saiyan culture from scratch. pretty much all the core beliefs the saiyans as a people had were from her very deliberately and surprisingly sneakily forcing them to be developed bc she was fully aware that the saiyans needed more than a love of battle to actually survive as a society independent of the tuffles. she basically had the whole thing set up and ready to last and become a proper empire but unfortunately the one kid that lived long enough to succeed her (by killing her in combat, obviously, and yes the others all tried and died– she's an important figure, not a nice one) ran face first into frieza and we all know how that went down
anyhow, vegeta ii's reign (which lasted a crazy long time bc she lived way longer than she should've and almost certainly used some kind of not-so-great method of living that long, but in her defense she needed to make sure at least one of her kids was cool enough to be in charge, so what's a few war crimes between monarchs) pretty much cemented all the saiyan pride and identity that vegeta iv is so fond of, and not just bc she was his grandma either.
the reason i have to get through all of that to explain my clone!vegeta theory is bc i need to explain why king vegeta iii became king in the first place– under vegeta ii's system, anyone could challenge for the throne at any time, regardless of who they were. her own children were expected - but not required - to do so, and if she died before an heir could kill her in glorious combat, the princes would become stewards and have the duty of finding the next king (who couldn't be one of them. fight and die for that shit like a real saiyan or no throne for you). however, there was actively incentive not to do that bc A) whoever's in charge has to actually be in charge and therefore gets to fight way less, and B) in order to become king you had to be ritually stripped of your identity as a person with the understanding that if you died during your challenge your name would be stricken from all records, none of your family or friends would ever acknowledge that you had ever existed, and you would simply cease to be (the afterlife doesn't follow these rules but most of the saiyans who are there still do, including the ones who by saiyan law no longer exist. say what you will about saiyans; they're a dedicated lot)
so anyway vegeta iii (before becoming vegeta iii – he had a different name bc names are super important in my version of saiyan culture but if i get into that here we will literally be here for the rest of the week - but i'll call him that for the sake of my sanity) is somewhat reluctant to challenge for the throne bc none of his siblings have managed it (not that they exist anymore whoops), but one of his colleagues/presumed ruling partner (not gonna get into saiyan relationships here either sorry) has been pushing him to do so for a while now
i think i've gone through a few names for vegeta's not-mom, but the most recent one is touga (from tougarashi, or capsicum annuum, and yes i was thinking of neon orange glimmer song by the mountain goats when i named her), so i'll call her that. touga is a pretty saiyan-y saiyan– she's violent, temperamental, proud, strong, and so forth, but another thing she is is deeply, deeply loyal to her people. she's also very aware of vegeta iii's weaknesses (such as "will probably care a little too much about kids if he has any" and "may make decisions based off of feelings instead of cold hard practical logic" and "seems likely to develop emotional attachments to family members"; you know, normal kingly failings) and has the lady macbeth-esque stainless steel go-fuck-yourself coldness to make up for her future husband's pathetic little morals or whatever
anyway, touga pushes vegeta iii to go for the throne bc holy shit his mom has been alive for way too long but also she has faith in hi or something and duty and whatever and dude do it if you ever want this saiyan tail, and eventually he caves and goes for it. he fights his mom, wins, gets a shiny new king name and is all set to run his kingdom. and then king cold shows up.
now in between killing his mom and our favorite chilly boys coming to town, vegeta iii and touga have had a kid, prince escallion (who is a girl ftr but i can't get into saiyan thoughts on sex/gender or the language or even escallion herself in this post bc we will never ever leave). escallion is pretty neat, just the strongest baby in history or whatever, but then post-cold arriving and politely yoinking the saiyans into his empire, rumors start spreading that frieza miiiiight be wanting a saiyan under his personal command. no prizes for guessing whose palace he's looking at for pickings. obviously the only prince they've got is not someone they can afford to lose, but they need a sure bet on super-infants and can't afford hoping for a genetic bingo, so vegeta iii assembles the universe's swole-est scientists and has them get started on making the Coolest Baby Ever (by cloning him, the king, bc he's the strongest but also bc frieza is an asshole and likes playing mind games with people so let's be real he's taking one of the king's kids no matter how tough they are)
so vegeta iv gets made (and named inappropriately but that's frieza's fault and a story for another time so ignore it for now) and eventually tarble is born and almost immediately sent off just in case frieza decides to be a bigger dick than usual (spoilers: frieza is going to decide to be an even bigger dick than that), and vegeta gets to spend the first few years of his life with his dad, big sis, and not-mom until he gets shipped off to go be a child soldier/slave/distraction, at which point frieza goes ahead and blows up the planet. there's more to it than just that, but i may actually want to write it out some day, so i'll keep the rest to myself for now.

DBZ Theory: The Secret of Chiaotzu
Tumblr media
[Art by @HAL7040 on Twitter]
Tien and Chiaotzu are inseparable. Whenever one is on screen, you know the other one is not far away. They go together like crab potstickers and rice. Tien is Chiaotzu's best friend. There cannot be any doubt that they treat each other with affection.
Tien is always trying to push past his limits, and Chiaotzu is always there dutifully at his side - to assist with his training, to cheer him on, join in a fight, and even prepare meals for him. Without any ambitions for himself to distract him.
I mean, that fits into Tien's lifestyle a little too perfectly?
Think about it... does he even talk to anybody else? Try to recall a moment that Chiaotzu talked to anyone that wasn't part a filler moment? You'd have to go back to the original Dragonball, even then Tien was watching near by.
Tumblr media
Also, he was introduced as small rival for Krillin, but that highlights another question. What's up with his body?
I mean, he met Goku 3 years before he married Chichi. Now Goku's a Grandfather and Chiaotzu looks exactly the same as when he was introduced.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A few of you might be thinking - he's might be a psychic projection sustained by Tien himself. A lot of you are probably chiming up to say - Chioatzu is a Chinese Vampire.
That's not what I'm saying.
My theory has always been that Chiaotzu is a homunculus.
Tumblr media
If you don't know, Tien started as a villain. He would go to extremes to prove he was the strongest. He entered the Tenkaichi Tournament and had no qualms about crippling his opponents. If the rules allowed, there's no doubt, he would have killed them. You see the Crane school had one other outstanding member, "Mercenary Tao" a world famous assassin. Tien was training to be the greatest Assassin in the world.
Now, think about Chiaotzu's skills. He can communicate telepathically with Tien. He can use his Psychic powers to block bullets, hurl objects, or hold a person in place. His signature attack is the Dodon Ray, it's like an assassin's bullet. Plus, he's got an suicide attack as a last resort. Plus, he's tiny, and he can fly. And he looks like a small, unassuming Child.
The perfect tool for an Assassin.
Add to that, that now we know, the Crane school had no qualms about dealing with the dark arts, as exemplified by Yurin's talisman magic.
Tumblr media
My theory is that to increase his chances of success, a young Tienshinan used the Dark Arts of the Crane School to craft a perfect Assassin's tool. Going to extremes and not being hampered by breaking a few laws, he might have started with the dead body of a young boy (maybe he killed him himself) and resurrected him as a living weapon who's mind is totally devoted to him.
Tumblr media
Of course, Tien had a dramatic change in his course in life. He left behind the Assasin's road to travel an honorable path. And Chiaotzu and him are enjoying life.
But what I can't help but wonder is what will happen to Chiaotzu after Tien finally passes? Will he find another fighter to glom on to? Will he finally find a life for himself? Or will he stand by Tien's grave still devoted to his master?
Chances are - we'll never know. But we can theorize about it.

How Was YAMOSHI The First SUPER SAIYAN As Well As The First SUPER SAIYAN GOD?
There is no concrete explanation yet. So, here's my explanation based off of what we are shown and told from the series and from an interview...
We are shown & told in Battle of Gods that Yamoshi was the Super Saiyan God of forgotten legend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, in an interview from Toriyama, he says that Yamoshi was also the first legendary Super Saiyan.
Tumblr media
To try to piece what we are shown and what we are told together, here's what I got...
During the rebellion against the evil Saiyans, Yamoshi together with the help of 5 righteous hearted Saiyans was able to become a Super Saiyan God. He fought until the power ran out rather quickly. Then, he was cornered, Yamoshi was able to turn into a Super Saiyan and he fought viciously against the evil Saiyans until he burned through his power and exhausted himself. Then, Yamoshi was killed by the evil Saiyans.
His soul drifted and he was in search of 5 good hearted Saiyans. Meanwhile, the Namekians communed with him and wrote his story down in The Namekian Book of Legends.
Beerus later felt Yamoshi's presence while asleep and had a dream regarding the Super Saiyan god. Then when destroying a planet, the memory resurfaced.
(How to explain the future timeline? Since there were no good Saiyans, it was just a prophecy that didn't come true. Afterall, prophecy is just a prediction that is likely to come true. Doesnt mean it will always come true. And it doesn't always come true in a manner that people expect.)

Thinking Radhan is superior to Malenia or Malenia is superior to Radhan is missing the point of their opposition.
Radhan and Malenia represent opposite ideals of warriors, one of unfathomable strength and one of unfathomable determination (at least at their peak). Malenia couldn't defeat Radhan without giving up on the part of her she hated, which many people are aware of. But it's good to remember that the scarlet rot is not just a physical poison, but poison of the soul as well. And its influence can be repelled by abnegation and determination (best seen in how Milicent, when her determination is broken by your betrayal, bloom, but she dies a human death when determined to keep being herself.) And Radhan, faced with a portion of what Malenia has to bear (she's directly connected to the outer god of rot) couldn't withstand it and lost his mind.
(Not to say Radhan had no will, but it was probably not that different than that of a heroic human.)
They're both what the other lack.
