Reader (Y/N’s) P.O.V
“No Gabe, I can’t do this anymore..” you said on the phone.
You were having yet another fight with this guy you were currently seeing. It really wasn’t an exclusive relationship but you still had feelings for him. But over the past week, there’s been nothing but fighting, the situation was toxic and it was  a waste of energy.
“No, I don’t want to work this out anymore, we’ve tried and nothing has changed. I’m sorry but it’s over, goodbye.”
You hung up the phone and placed it on the coffee table in front of you.
“What a jerk….” You muttered to yourself.
You placed your face in your hands and began to take deep breaths, trying to calm yourself down.
You picked your phone back up again and deleted his number from your contact list. After that, you went through your contacts again hoping to call your friends to help cheer you up.
Then you came across a contact name that you recognized:
Dean Winchester….. your friend with benefits. That green eyed, hot as fuck, bad boy hunter. How could I forget him? He’s so perfect…. You thought to yourself.
The line began to ring and he picked up right away.
“Hello?” His deep masculine voice said.
“Dean, it’s (Y/N). I know this is so random but are you busy right now?”
“No, Sam and I just finished up a case…actually near where you live. Why what’s up?”
“Well, um, remember when we became friends with benefits and you said we can call each other whenever we needed to hook up?”
“Yeah?”
“Well I’m feeling very lonely and vulnerable right now….and I need you Dean. Desperately.”
“Say no more, sweetheart I’m on my way.”
An Hour Later….
Before Dean arrived, you decided to freshen up. You touched up your hair and make up just a tad, and put on some sexy lingerie, with a silk robe to cover it up.
Knock Knock.
You raced to get the door, and there he was standing before you. Just as handsome as ever.
He was wearing a dark green jacket (which complimented his eyes perfectly) with a black T-shirt underneath. And his regular jeans with boots.
“Well hello there handsome.” You said in a seductive voice
“What’s cookin 'good lookin?” He said as he winked at me.
You began to bite your lips as you pulled him in aggressively by the collar of his shirt and smashed your lips on his. He immediately responded by melting into the kiss. His hands went around your waistline and began to grab your ass.
Can you put your hands on my waistline?
Want your skin up against mine
Move my hips to the baseline
Let me get mine, you get yours
Smack. A red mark was left on your ass.
“Oh Dean, you are a very naughty boy.” You moaned softly to him.
He looked at you grinning like a seductive devil, only wanting you more.
He untied the silk robe from your body and let it pool by your feet. His eyes grew wide as he looked at your lingerie set, running them up and down your body.
It was a black lacy corset bra, with a thong to match, and some black stockings that went up to your thighs, and straps that linked up to them.
You took his hand and led him to your room.
You laid down on the bed and Dean crawled on top of you.
He began kissing your neck, leaving love marks along it, he took a hand and started playing with your boobs. He pulled down your corset bra, exposing your breasts. Your nipples were hard already and Dean could tell.
He sucked and flicked lightly on each nipple, causing you to moan in pleasure.
“Mmmmm, Dean…..”
“Your tits are so perfect baby.” He groped each one, massaging them softly.
You reached down at the hem of his shirt pulling it up off of him. You admired his strong chest and abs, you also noticed the pentagram tattoo and planted a kiss on it.
You reached for the belt on his pants, undoing it and pushing them down revealing his boxers.
He pushed them down and his thick cock sprang free, it was so big. Just like you remembered.
“Lay back Dean, I need to taste you.”
He did as he was told and you took a hold of his cock. Gliding your tongue along the slit licking the pre-cum that came out of him.
“Oh fuck, that feels so good.”
“Well it’s about to get even better.” You  teased, and you took all of him in your mouth and began sucking him like a lollipop.
He groaned and moaned in pleasure, his cock twitching in your mouth. He grabbed a fist full of your hair, and yanked it as your head bobbed up and down.
“You’re so good for me, taking me all in your mouth like that baby.” He said in a husky voice. “Use that pretty little mouth.” Groaning his head back in pleasure.
You kept going sucking and groping faster and faster until he cummed in your mouth.
“Oh fuck, baby….” He breathed heavily. You swallowed every last drop of him, and he wiped some of it off your chin with his thumb, planting a kiss on your forehead.
“That’s my good girl, now lay down for me, and take those panties off….I need to be inside of you.”
Put my back into a slow grind
Sending chills up and down my spine
Let me get mine, you get yours
You did as you were told and spread your legs open, and he admired your glistening pussy.
He teased you a bit, going in and out at first rubbing the tip on your clit, “Dean, please don’t tease me.”
He then pushed hard inside of your walls, hitting your g-spot with ease.
“I almost forgot how tight you are baby. Your pussy is so perfect.”
“You feel so fucking good Dean, keep going don't you dare stop.”
He continued to grind against you, moans filled the room and you didn't care how loud you were. You dug your nails into his back, leaving marks, you clung onto him like he was your lifeline. His strong hands gripped your waist tight as he thrusted in and out of you. Your legs were getting weak, you could feel the moment come to you.
“I’m so close, ohh my god!”
“Me too, where do you want me to cum baby?”
“Inside me please, Dean. Fill up this tight little pussy."
"Yes, ma'am." He said while growling.
And he did, as he pulled out he looked down at the glistening liquid that was coming out of your pussy. He bent down and sucked up all of your juices, as you moaned back in pleasure.
He laid down next to you, as he took you in his arms.
"Wow, Dean that was so amazing, I need to call you more often." You said winking at him.
"I'll be honored to help you out sweetheart." He said as he smirked seductively.

still into you- nishimura riki x reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a/n: THIS WAS REQUESTED BY ONE OF MY ANONS HERE!
request: now months later reader's in the practice room, late at night on the floor, catching their breath while the music plays in the background softly. it was then when Ni-Ki slams open the door not expecting anyone to be there and their eyes meet through the reflection of the mirror dance rooms have
warnings- none tbh :3 just both of them being goofy
wc- 300-400
MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
sprawling out on the practice room floor was like clockwork to you. especially after a long day of dancing and cardio.
it helped to keep you distracted too, your work was everything to you. it helped fill a void that you didn’t even want to think about right now.
you stretched out hearing a couple pops, laughing to yourself before flipping on your stomach to go on your phone.
frowning when you turned it on it was a wallpaper of you and your ex. you really need to delete it, it was still in the wallpaper album that changes it every hour.
it was just a reminder of the void, you weren’t even mad at him anymore. you missed him and wished you had communicated with him more. it’s one of your biggest regrets…
sighing you opened tiktok so you could have your break. your music from your ipad connected to the speakers playing softly in the background. ironically enough still into you by paramore was playing.
you were about to like a video when the door slammed open, scaring you so bad you jumped back.
“GO AWAY IM ABOUT TO PRACTICE!” the boy laughed before walking in, not even taking in your presence as he was looking down at his phone.
for a split second you took in his appearance now. it changed a lot, he looked like he bulked up, his hair was cut shorter, WAS THAT A TATTOO ON HIS FOREARM?
you blinked and he finally looked up at you, “oh.”
oh? that’s all he was gonna say to you? OH? after months of not talking… OH???
“um.” you quickly got up, grabbing your ipad, phone, and hoodie, “you can have the room haha it’s fine anyways-“
“wait no…” riki quickly ran to the door and blocked it, as you were making a beeline to the exit.
you looked up at him, your stuff pooling out of your hands, “get out of my way!”
“no!”
“what the hell!” you started to laugh, “you can have the practice room! let me go!”
“no!” riki said again, now using his arms and legs to block the door, “please don’t leave i really- i just-“
you set your stuff down by your feet, “you need to what? finally explain yourself, apologize for being a dick?”
riki was about to talk, “i-“ he put his hand up, “yeah…”
“little late for that.” you went to pick up your stuff again and you saw him trying to look through his brain for anything. his body slumping against the door now.
part of you felt kinda bad. the breakup was a little messy, him being busy, him not being able to tell you that he loves you, you both being a little short tempered. it just wasn’t the right time for either of you. you didn’t hold bad blood or anything. it was just awkward
you grabbed your stuff properly this time, “okay, move. it’s not funny or cute anymore.”
“anymore? you thought it was funny and cute before?” he put his hands and legs almost in a starfish position again against the door. grinning with that all too familiar mischievous smile of his.
“riki! i’m serious! i’ve been practicing forever, i smell bad and i need to get food!” you tried to move past him. you couldn’t help the small giggles escaping you.
“no! i can’t! i need to tell you that im in love with you still and im sorry i didn’t say it before because i was scared to!” at this point he was word vomiting.
you looked up at him, “you are?”
riki’s eyes were still closed, he nodded rapidly, the last nod he hit his head against the door. which left you falling over laughing.
riki looked horrified, did he just embarrass himself? what if you had another boyfriend already? or girlfriend? it’s been months.
“you’re so cute.”
oh…
his ears turned bright red as he watched you laughing on the floor. you looked up at him with that same sweet smile you had previous to your breakup. he sat down on the floor in front of you.
“i meant what i said…” he said as your laughter died down and you were left staring at eachother.
you smiled at him again, “i still love you.”
his eyes widened and he smiled back, “you do?”
“yes i do.”
he jumped up and did a little dance before grabbing your hands and lifting you up. hugging you and swinging you around.
“i love you so much i’m sorry i didn’t say it before. i really do love you.” he set you down, “even if you smell bad after practicing.”
you shoved his shoulder and riki laughed, “i’m kidding i’m kidding!”
you hugged him again, your arms shaking around his waist.
“can i come with you to eat dinner then?”
“as my boyfriend or my ex?” you mumbled. you felt his arms hold you back, his chin on your head.
“as your boyfriend obviously… if that’s okay…”
you smiled up at him, “yeah that’s okay, if you’re okay with me being stinky?”
he sighs dramatically and raises his eyebrows, “guess thats okay.”
you both start laughing before getting into a debate on what to eat together.

LBFD Deleted Scene
Sometimes, even if you plan all 26ish chapters of a fic out, it doesn't stay to plan. I've made small adjustments- adding and combining chapters here and there, but this coming area needed chop up. Luckily @mokulule, my ever darling beta, was willing to help me talk through it.
Unluckily, two chapters have turned into four. But I might be able to cut a later chapter out now. And it will have better pacing and a bigger impact in the long run and more angst in the short run.
I did also lose some 340 words of a scene I had written months ago. It would have needed change no matter what, but now it wont be used at all now, so have the little deleted scene here below the cut!
cw: momentarily assumed domestic abuse- but to be clear that is not what's happened at all. Just halfas being betta fish.
“Danny?” Cleo asked. She was looking at him with big, worried eyes. Some of the others were clustered around them. Danny didn’t know what do with the concern.
“Um, yeah?”
“Are you okay?”
Danny frowned, confused. “Yeah?”
“It’s just that, um, your make-up? It wore off? And you’ve got this bruise…,” she said softly, gesturing at her own jaw to indicate where it was.
“Oh,” Danny said, laughing, “Guess I rubbed at it. I’m fine. Jason just has a mean right hook.”
“Jason?”
“My boyfriend.”
Danny winced as several people spoke at once. “Boyfriend?” “What?!” “He hit you?” “Oh my God—”
Danny cowed at the reaction. He rubbed at the back of the neck as he explained, sheepishly, “Okay, so in hindsight that sounded bad. We go to the same gym! We do MMA together. We were sparing and I swerved when I should of ducked and he got me good yesterday, but I’m fine, really.”
Cleo frowned at him, but Danny thought maybe she was cautiously listening. “MMA?”
“Mixed martial arts,” Danny explained with a little shrug. “It’s sort an anything goes fighting style. Sparing is one of the things we bonded over.”
It was close enough to the truth. And they did fight at the gym officially these days.
“There is no way you do MMA,” José said incredulously.
“Forget that, I want to go back to the boyfriend bit,” Cloe said. At least his story had convinced her.
“My guys, my dudes, non gendered beings, I am hurt and wounded that you don’t think I could fight or get a boyfriend,” Danny said, placing his hand on his heart dramatically.
“Oh, no, I believe the boyfriend part,” Fara said. “You’re a total twink even if you’re a huge nerd.”
“Nerd I’ll own,” Danny said with finger guns and a grin. “But seriously, I’ve been doing martial arts since I was a kid. I’m pretty decent at it. The gym even has some videos up on their social if you need proof, I should be in a recent one.”

After Ellie retrieved a hat from her dad’s office, she headed back to her seat. Thankfully, she avoided anymore run-ins or texts with hockey players. She took a seat back next to Mackenzie, a beanie now placed atop her blonde head of hair. “Took you long enough.” Mackenzie said as Ellie sat back down. “Yeah, I ran into someone on the way there. Literally.” Ellie replied. Mackenzie raised her eyebrows in confusion, then her face dropped in realization. “Oh my god did you see Nic?” She asked, panicking. Ellie frantically shook her head no. “No, but he did text me about 10 minutes ago asking to meet later to talk.”
Mackenzie rolled her eyes in annoyance. “Can he give up already?” She asked, annoyance clear in her voice. “I know right. I didn’t reply, I deleted the message.” Ellie said. “Good, who did you run into then?” Mackenzie asked, curiously. Ellie gave her a side look, not wanting her to see the smirk growing on her face. “Ellieeeee???” Mackenzie pushed on. “I ran into a UM hockey boy. Bout knocked me down, but he caught me and apologized.” She said, trying to keep it casual.
However, Mackenzie knew her best friend too well, and knew there was more to the story. “AND? Name? Position? Height? Hair color? CUTE??” Mackenzie’s questions flew out of her mouth at the speed of light. Ellie laughed at her eagerness to know more. “Luke, don’t know his position, about 6’2 I’d say, light brown hair, very cute.” Ellie answered all her questions in short phrases. “How cute?” Mackenzie pushed for more information. Ellie felt the heat go to her cheeks as her smirk grew bigger. “Really, really cute. Like, the cutest boy I’ve ever seen cute.” Ellie said.
Mackenzie’s mouth fell open as a huge grin appeared on her face. “Like, cuter than Nicolas?” Mackenzie asked. Ellie nodded her head yes. This was officially a big deal. If someone was cuter than her beloved, prince charming, hockey player ex boyfriend, Mackenzie needed to see for herself. “Okay, I’m looking him up right now.” Mackenzie said, and wasted not a second more getting her phone out and googling the UM’s hockey roster.
Within a minute, she was showing her phone to Ellie. “Him? Luke Hughes? #43?” She asked. “Mmhmm.” Ellie responded, smiling at the sight of him again. “Yeah, you weren’t kidding.” Mackenzie said, staring at his player profile. And as if on cue, Ellie looked up just in time to see that same #43 skating by her on the ice. “Oh god there he is.” Ellie said, causing Mackenzies head to shoot up. Ellie was in a trance for the next few minutes, watching Luke skate around and do warm up drills.
“So, did you get his number or anything?” Mackenzie asked, breaking Ellie out of her trance. “No, I didn’t. He asked for mine, but I didn’t give it to him.” She replied. Mackenzie’s mouth shot open as she looked at her best friend with a “What the actual fuck” face. “WHAT? You’re telling me that tall, handsome, probably better in bed than your ex hockey player asked for your phone number and you TURNED HIM DOWN?” Mackenzie all but said quietly. Ellie motioned her hands to tell Mackenzie to take it down a few notches, who knows who’s sitting around them. “Oh who’s gonna hear, your future in laws?” She said sarcastically. While it was just a joke, that question sure brought the heat back to Ellie’s cheeks.
“Mack, I don’t know if I can go out with another hockey player. With everything I went through with Nic, I don’t want to do that again.” She said. Mack nodded her head understandingly, but she wasn’t going to give up. “Babe, I get it. You went through hell with him, and I’m sorry. But you can’t let that stop you from finding something great with someone else. I know you’re scared of getting hurt again, but he could be the most amazing guy in the world. You won't know unless you try.” Mackenzie said, trying to reason with her best friend.
Ellie nodded her head, she knew she was right, but she still wasn’t going to give in that easy. “Well, I told him if they won I’d consider giving him my number, so we’ll see.” She said. Mack smirked at her in amusement. “Playing hard to get, I like it. Make him work.” Mackenzie said, and with that, the two girls went back to watching warm ups.
Ellie felt like the game went by agonizingly slow, as she was just eager to get to the end result. UM did end up winning 4-1, Luke having a goal himself. On the unfortunate side, Ellie didn’t get to see Nic shoved into the glass or tripped on the ice. Sigh, maybe next time. While she wouldn’t say she was happy MSU lost, she also wouldn’t say she wasn’t happy UM won. She obviously thought Luke was attractive when they met, but seeing him in full uniform and playing really did something for her. However, there was still the lingering question in her head on if she should give him her phone number. There was no denying that she found him attractive, but did she really want to go through hell with another hockey player?
She didn’t have much time to make up her mind as Mack was already on her feet and ready to go. They always liked to try to beat the post game traffic, but tonight Ellie was hoping they could linger around for a bit longer. Despite her mind telling her to stay, within minutes she and Mack were out the door of the arena and heading to the parking lot.
Ellie was slightly disappointed, as she did want to see Luke again. Who knows if she’d ever see him again after tonight. Sighing quietly, they began walking to the car, when a voice pulled them back. “Ellie! Wait up!” The girls heard from behind them, and at the sound of it Ellie whipped her head around so fast she swore she got whiplash. And there he was again, still in his uniform, as he probably didn’t have time to change if he wanted to catch her before she left.
She smiled as she saw who called her name, and began walking towards him. “We won.” Was all he said with a smirk. She returned the smirk and nodded her head. “That you did.” She replied. They looked at each other for a few seconds, waiting to see who would make the next move. “Well, I’ll leave you two to it.” Mack said, patting Ellie on the shoulder and walking off to leave the two alone.
“So” Luke said, waiting to see what her next move would be, as to him the ball was in her court. “So…” Ellie replied. She wanted to give him a chance, she did, but she didn’t know if she could. “You really don’t have to give me your number if you don’t want to, but I would like to see you again if that’s okay with you.” Luke said. Ellie’s head was all over the place. She had a voice in one ear telling her to give him the damn phone number, and she had a voice in the other saying he’s just another jock who’s gonna fuck her over, don’t give it to him.
“I want to see you again too. I do, it’s just…” She started. Luke looked at her curiously, waiting to hear what she would say next. Sighing, she finished “I just got out of something not too long ago, and while I’ve moved on I just don’t know if my head is in the right place yet to start anything.” Luke nodded understandingly. That definitely was not the answer he was expecting or hoping for, but he was optimistic. “I understand completely.” He said, Ellie nodded in response, feeling bad but happy that he understood.
“How about this…” He said, reaching his hand out in a motioning gesture. “I’ll give you my number, and when you think your head is in a better place, you let me know.” He said. Ellie smiled at his response, and nodded in agreement. “I can do that.” She said, unlocking her phone and handing it to him. He put his contact information in and handed her phone back to her.
“Use it, don’t use it, it’s up to you. But I really hope you will, when you’re feeling up to it.” He said. Ellie couldn’t help but smile at his kind and gentleness. He wasn’t pushy, he wasn’t overbearing, he was leaving it up to her while implying that he was very much interested.
“And how do I know that you’ll still be interested if I decide to use it?” She asked with a hint of sarcasm, but also seriousness. “Trust me Ellie, I will still be interested.” He said, and with that he turned and walked away, leaving her speechless behind him for the second time tonight.

hi mr bildad um im just gonna dump this here since i have no one else to talk to
as someone who has always praised in their ability to be friends with anyone (i also need human interaction to survive btw) ive been feeling very lonely, especially since now are the school holidays.
my best friend (who is one year older than me) is barely online and doesn't take me seriously enough. and when i ask my friend group (with 2 other people my age) if they want to go out nothing happens. ive asked so many times but it's like they just don't want to hang out. and i keep seeing them post everywhere of them having fun with their OTHER friends (i don't know them bc they're from their primary schools; we are in secondary school now). and the obvious solution is to hang out with my primary school friends, right? well awesome news I DONT HAVE ANY.
and like ive just been feeling really really lonely especially today. i don't even text anyone except for my best friend, and even then she doesnt really respond properly because its like i dump a lot of messages and 4 hours later she skims through them, rinse and repeat.
(also side note i used to have another best friend but he ended up having a crush on me and didn't give me space so i kinda ended the friendship bc i wasn't comfortable with it)
during my entire TWO MONTH school holiday i haven't gone out with friends. not even once. while i see everyone else my age having so much fun and enjoying life while i just rot at home scrolling through tumblr.
so yeah im not really having a great time. hopefully when i get back to school in january things will be better
sorry for the long rant
Hey, kid (human). No need to apologize for the long rant. Actually, I've got a lot to say about this topic, too, so take a toilet break, grab a beverage and a snack, then sit down with your deal old Bildaddy (platonic, metaphorical) for a chat.
First off, sorry you're going through this. It hurts a lot when friends start fading away, and you realize they no longer consider you as close and you consider them. Feeling left out and like you don't have any real friends seriously sucks.
But it's actually something every single person goes through at some time or another--though most of us aren't brave enough to admit it like you have, because it feels embarrassing and shameful. Like there's something wrong with you.
There isn't.
There is nothing wrong with you.
Friends come and go, and 99% of the time it has nothing to do with you, or anything you've said or done. It isn't your fault. That doesn't mean it hurts any less, but it isn't your fault.
But that being said, I promise you, for every person you see pictures of having so much fun and enjoying life, there are twenty--probably even more--at home like you, scrolling tumblr, or tiktok, or reddit, or whatever the kids are scrolling these days.
And even those people you see posting pictures, that isn't their everyday life. They post pics of the good times, not the bad ones (well not usually) or the boring ones. Especially not the boring ones. I bet they do more sitting at home and scrolling than you think. They're just not advertising that for all their followers to see.
But that's not the point. The point is (dolphins! goats!) your current friends aren't fulfilling your need for socialization. And that means you need to find some new friends, anon.
You can still stay friends with your best friend and that old friend group. As in, don't send them a message officially ending the friendship, and don't delete and/or block them everywhere. You can still talk to them in school when you see them.
(Do unfollow them on social media if seeing them hang without you is upsetting--or better yet, pause on using social media entirely--except for tumblr, of course--until you're in a better place, mentally and emotionally. Bildaddy deleted instagram five years ago and never went back.)
But starting today, back off on asking these friends to hang out, and sending long text messages to your best friend that she only skims through. They're not matching your energy, so you need to start matching theirs. Either they'll notice the difference and start making more of an effort (no, not that kind), or they won't and they won't. But either way, you'll stop wasting your time.
Next, you take all the energy you were spending on your old friend group and start looking for new friends.
While you're still on winter break, there might not be as many opportunities, but there are some possibilities. Do you have any cousins around your age who might wanna hang out? Or maybe there are local events aimed at teenagers you can attend? Check libraries and community centers. Or on New Year's Eve, there might be some sort of Parents Night Out event you can volunteer for and help babysit a group of little kids, along with other teenagers that you could befriend?
Then, when winter break ends, look around your school for other students who might be in your same situation--and trust me there are others in your same situation. Is there someone who always sits alone at lunch? Or what about that kid in class who's too shy to speak up? Is there someone getting bullied or ostracized? Someone new to the school who hasn't made any friends yet? Look for the ones who might need a friend as much--or even more--than you do and try to befriend them.
It won't always work, no, cause nothing always works. But it will work sometimes. And you only need it to work enough times to make a couple friends. And if you make the right friend, they might have a friend group that you can join.
I know it's really scary to put yourself out there and make the first move. But you'd be surprised how receptive people are, especially the shy ones who are too scared to say 'hi' first, and rely on the braver ones, like you, for the human connection they need. Because we all need it. (Even me. Because I'm totally 100% human.)
Other ways to make friends are clubs, in school and out of school, which is probably what adults will suggest if you ask them, so I'm not going to spend much time on this. But they're right. If you're not already in clubs--academic, sports, art, books, music, anime, whatever your interest(s) is--join some! If there's nothing of interesting at your schools, churches and other local organizations might also have youth clubs and activities, too.
Shared interests in a sure way to make friends. I see it happening all the time on Tumblr. Those mutuals you wish didn't live so far away? Well, you can find mutuals just like them IRL! (Especially if you start or join a book club that reads Good Omens, or a tv show club that watches Good Omens)
Another option is getting a part-time job at a place other teenagers work. If this is something you can do without disrupting your schoolwork, try it. Fast food restaurants, cinemas, places like that.
You say you're someone who has the ability to be friends with anyone? Well, prove it! This isn't a threat, by the way. This is encouragement. I'm encouraging you.
Now go out there and make some friends, kid! I know you can do it! I believe in you, and everybody here is rooting for you.
And, as always, have an ox rib (platonic)

Yeah, fair enough on the needing more detail point, I sort of wanted to test the waters to see if you'd even care first, cause I wasn't gonna waste time typing out a whole thing if the notion of JRPGs being fundamentally flawed didn't interest you and then you deleted my ask. So I guess I'll now oblige and explain in more detail.
I've been playing a few of the SMT games because my girlfriend really likes them and I, being a good girlfriend (trying to!) want to show that I care about her interests. Prior to this I've only really played Persona 3 and 5 and Yakuza 7. For this, I played Soul Hackers 2, and Devil Survivor 1 and 2 (1 to Yuzu's ending, and 2 to Ronaldo's ending), and about an hour of SMT V, which I found boring, and she, having played the whole game (I'm pretty sure) agrees with me that it's boring, so I decided to not keep playing it (for now at least)
My main issue with most all of these games comes mostly threefold: the amount of time and commitment they take, the difficulty and in particular the manner in which it is imposed, and the heavily formulaic nature of their plots. These are sort of holistic issues, I guess, so I can't really neatly divide them, but I'll try.
First of all: the time commitment. Playing both Devil Survivors to a single ending took me around thirty to forty hours each, going off of my save files. (I was playing the 3DS versions, mind, and listening to all the voice acting, which surely extended the time played.) I understand that it gets faster on NG+, and in itself, this isn't exactly the biggest of deals, because video games in general take a long time (it's the way it is really), but JRPGs just feel like they take way longer than the average video game and this issue compounds when one considers the latter two flaws I've observed.
So, secondarily: The difficulty, and the way it's imposed. Soul Hackers 2 obviously is not a hard game, and there's not that much variance in its content, and it's not the longest of these sorts of games, either, so I wouldn't say it's the greatest offender here (using that term feels wrong...), but with Devil Survivor 1, I felt this the most. About 80 percent of the way through the game, which I'd generally found to be quite unchallenging for the most part, I found myself suddenly struggling against Belial (the fire demon). During a grinding session in which I was trying to level myself up so that I could weather my way through this (to my annoyance, as I found the grinding incessantly tedious, more on that later), my girlfriend looked over my shoulder, and said "why do your stats look like that?"
You see, my stats, at the time, all four, magic, vitality, agility, and uh... What was the fourth one. Strength! Yeah, um they were *all* at exactly 17 (give or take 1.) I explained to her, rather calmly, that I had done this because I couldn't really choose which of the four stats I wanted more of, and thought it would be best if I made all of these numbers perfectly balanced and equal.
This is an approach I almost always take in most any video game that offers any form of upgrade or skill tree: I struggle with overchoice, can't choose a priority to go for, so every time I have resources with which to upgrade, I just upgrade whatever is most recently neglected such that I have a generally well-rounded skill set and can do a bit of everything.
She, an SMT veteran, immediately went like, "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO "
And explained to me that the way I was *supposed* to do this, was to specialize in one area or another, magic or strength or tanking damage with high health, or whatever. To which I said "HOW THE FUCK WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT!" She insisted I should have just known it, I guess? Anyway, I considered this a grievous design flaw that irreparably impaired my enjoyment of the game. As I did not have an old save file with which to revert my statting decisions, and did not wanted to restart the entire game, nor did I want to grind the same fucking goddamned shibuya battle over and over and over and over and over again for god knows how many hours until I somehow corrected my stats
I opted to use my (hacked) 3DS to install an external cheat which inflated my protagonist's level to 99 with all four stats at their maximum of 40. I did this because I had decided I hated how this game was balanced and wanted to finish it and no longer waste my time. I felt pleased with this decision, because I was playing through the bad ending in which the cast brute forces their way out of the lockdown and ruining the world, while myself brute forcing my way out of the game and ruining the game balance. *ahem* I mean, fixing the game balance
My girlfriend said "I'm glad you had fun ruining one of my favorite games :(((" In response, I opined that Devil Survivor would have been better if it were a straightforward visual novel.
While Soul Hackers 2 does not have this specific issue, given that Ringo's stats are all mostly preset by the game and you can only mildly boost them here and there, I did instead take umbrage with the way that the later floors of the Soul Matrix dungeon were organized around teleporters which teleport you from one island of the floor to another, with no clear sense of rhyme or reason to their routing. I considered these teleporters to be arbitrary and stupid, as they were frustrating, and demanded that I have the capacity for rote memorization of the layout and teleporter placement of an entire dungeon whose corners broadly look all the damn same. I called these a blatantly egregious example of "fake difficulty".
She warned me never to touch several of the older SMT games.
I booted up Devil Survivor 2, with my girlfriend's advice about specialization in mind. I enjoyed the game a lot more than Devil Survivor 1, but, for the sake of mitigating gameplay frustration, I pirated the DLC. I quickly realized I would not enjoy the grinding, even with the reduction of grinding that the DLC enables, and cheated to have infinite money so I could have more fun with the game. I went for Ronaldo's ending, because he's sort of a leftist and his voice acting makes him sound like Knuckles the Echidna from Sonic the Hedgehog, and I thought siding with "communist Knuckles the Echidna" was a very funny image
Anyway, across all three of these experiences, I generally wondered, "do I like these? do I like their stories? do I like their gameplay?" and I feel like the answer is broadly sort of... yes, sometimes, but generally no?
I kinda just don't really understand the appeal of being railroaded into repetitive tasks for the sake of increasing numbers that then decide whether or not you win, rather than like, your actual skill, which is just down to pressing the same buttons over and over. I get that part of the appeal is the long-term strategy of building your party, and that's valid and all, but I tend to very quickly get frustrated with it because often times I fail to intuit the correct strategy ahead of time, and the solution turns out to be "rewind the clock back several hours!" and I don't want to do that and have to redo all the work I did up to that point, and then potentially have to rewind again if I do it wrong.
So, the appeal is supposed to be the strategy, I guess, which just takes a lot of dedication that I don't have in me, but if I dial that down to make it easier, then the game's reduced to pressing more buttons, and, just isn't really fun at all in the way it's supposed to be. And that all might be fine if the story was worth the effort, but... is it?
All of these games have very thin narratives which all more or less boil down to "humanity good" vs "humanity bad" vs "humanity bad but sometimes good so it's worth it (sometimes)" ideological conflicts that all end up with killing one or another divine or cosmic entity with omnipotence of one or another variety, and like, cool, I guess, is that worth 50-100 hours of effort? Is that something I'm invested enough in to throw myself into an entire series, hell, an entire genre, of games for? I'm not really sure that it is, to me, so. Weh?
Is that really all that there is to this entire game genre? Like, outside of indie games that mostly have their own issues (they're all very derivatively ripping off Mother 3 and/or Undertale and/or Chrono Trigger and not generally bringing a lot of new mechanical ideas, and even still they just kinda find their way back to the issue of the grind not being that fun most of the time)
And my girlfriend has just argued to most of this that maybe I just don't like the games, and I shouldn't force myself to like them, and she'd like to please stop rehashing this argument with me, and maybe she's right, maybe I just don't enjoy JRPGs, and that's okay, but uh...
I don't know. I want to try and see what she sees in them and find out if I can really care about them the way she does. She has a Jack Frost plushie that I sometimes play with, and it's cute, and I want to care about him more the way she does, not just because he's cute but because I've played these games and had fun and know who he is and definitely don't hate his stupid little face aaahh I love him so much
and I keep inventing fun little lore for Frosty the Jack Frost plushie (she calls him Frosty) about how he sells stuff he stole to the Black Market which is owned by Black Frost, and he's planning to kill King Frost and overthrow the Frost Monarchy, and all that, and she seems to find that cute even though she keeps contradicting it with lore and trivia from the games and I keep going "well I dunno *in the back of my mind: but maybe I want to know*" and like
I'm sorry if this seems like an insane unhinged rant but I just really love my girlfriend and I think it'd hurt a little to have to give up on something she really loves, even if I know, intellectually, that she loves me more, and that that won't change if I don't like SMT, and it's okay if I don't like them.
But I want to like them. I genuinely do. I don't know how to like them and I don't know how to tell her I want to like them and am not trying to start a fight with her over something she loves. I don't know. Am I missing something?
for the record I kind of like a lot of things Soul Hackers 2 does and I think I'd like it a lot more if it was finished but that's a can of worms I maybe shouldn't open....
Holy shit this is so much and thank you so much also for caring enough for my opinion because i have a whole lot to say here, and I adore these games.
Let's break it down point by point.
Belial is fairly challenging, the game is hard. And I think your girlfriend has done you a severe disservice. If she wanted you to min-max your stats in a certain direction, she should have told you about that straight up. I can understand her immediate reaction due to it being uncommon, but how is that your fault? The game is actually designed for it anyway.
You're given party members that focus on different niches, Yuzu and Midori and Keisuke can all perform powerful magic offensive roles, Atsuro is a strong tank, Kaido has powerful offensive stats, and you share a skill pool, so having a less specialised build is really only going to make it that much harder if you try to make your protag the main attacker, which some SMT vets seem to instinctively do in these games. Having a mix means you could play the healer, carry an extra element or phys attack or status condition to cripple a foe.
I personally would have leant towards a code that lets you boost levels faster, but I think her response to cheating was unreasonable. I think the game is balanced well even if you make an even spread but you're trying to have fun and try her thing. Kind of rude to you really, because sometimes you just need to cheat, these games are HARD. Remember that escort mission earlier on? Kind of needlessly tricky.
There's a reason that new versions of these releases have additional easy modes. In some of their PS2 game promotion, Atlus PR famously said 'we get off on your tears'. That mentality has somewhat changed since. Whilst some, like I, say that the difficulty is kind of part of the point, there's only so much you should have to put up with. I actively reccommend cheats in some games as a way to ease you in, when they are so challenging.
(Were you playing the DS version? The Yuzu ending certainly isnt a 'bad ending' on 3ds. The 8th day makes it one of my fave endings. Trying to complete every ending is a fool's endeavor in my opinion, and you should only lean towards what you think is best. Maybe look up an ending guide on the offchance the cool ending you want is hidden in some way so you never have to touch the game again unless you actually want to. The point is about you making Your Choice.)
Moving along, Ronnie my beloved. Love that guy, his route is easily the best. I love Soul Hackers 2 despite it's frustratingly flaws of 'they ripped half the game out and sold it as day 1 dlc' and 'the fucking soul matrix', and a lot of people just dismiss it out of hand based on early dungeon design and miss out on the way it deals with it's cast. Im so glad you can SEE IT.
Within many Shin Megami Tensei games, the stat grinding difficulty is the point insofar as you are fighting a world that is falling apart and wants you dead. And even so, you keep fighting and surviving. These titles can be rather samey as they go over their various aspects of humanity over and over, but thus can they really be made a representative of the JRPG genre? What about Pokemon, which is about adventuring and bonding with your creatures? SMT has a distinct theme they stick to that they repackage in different flavours. Fuck it, play old ones and cheat in them. Load up on macca and buy a gazillion healing items to cut down the grind and overall playtime.
I've noticed a distinct absence of the Persona games too? Which is strange given how they all differ from traditional smt in terms of theming.
My favourite RPGs are 'The World Ends With You' and 'The Caligula Effect 2'. Entirely different from SMT and dont focus on 'humanity' in that way at all and they absolutely aren't representative of more mainstream JRPGs.
(sidenote, what are your favourite RPGs out of curiosity? I can probably help you hunt down some specific titles that you would like more?)
I adore your Jack Frost lore. Why can't that work in canon? Little fairy friend SHOULD overthrow the frost monarchy!
(and that sort of stuff is encouraged in Atlus' other series Etrian Odyssey, which is a dungeon crawler where you make a team of customised guys (you can start anywhere).
I think the only thing you can really do is play more, but i dont think you should push yourself either or you could burn out and appreciate it less. I'm sorry that I don't have magical advice that will solve that conundrum.
Thank you so much for coming to me though, it means a lot and I hope this ramble does anything for you. Im trying to check on my phone that I covered everything in your post and Im so sorry if I missed anything (please point it out if so).
Best of luck?

masterlist | series masterlist
Summary: The last thing you expected upon agreeing on a night out with your friend was to be swept up by the drummer of a popular band and his sweet boy Nico. They’re only in town for the weekend, so you need to make every little moment count before saying goodbye.
Word count: just over 5.2k
Warnings: fluffy, matchmaker Nico stole my heart, swearing, smoking, rock band shenanigans, steamy kisses, Din is hot, no smut in this chapter but boy is it coming (HA. GET IT?!)
A/N: Please take note that due to the future smut warning, this story is strictly for 18+. So, lmao, funny story - I deleted and rewrote this whole chapter today. I don't know why, my brain just went 'um no' and so there I went. I hope you guys love this as much as I do! Enjoy x
-------------------------------------------------------
It’s all bodies and heat in front of the stage, the deafening music roaring through the venue bringing an intense energy to the crowd that has people screaming along with the lyrics and throwing themselves around to the cry of electric guitars and the heavy beat of drums. You do your best to keep up, your cheeks aching from the wide smile that had been plastered on your face since your ears started to ring from the music.
Though you’re loath to admit it to her smug little face, Winnie was absolutely right in pulling you out of your apartment for a night of drinks and live music. Some of her favourite bands had suddenly teamed up and were in town for the weekend, and she had all but gone into cardiac arrest, clambering for any last minute tickets along with the hundreds of others wanting to attend the surprise event.
She’d shown up to your apartment with a series of thunderous pounds to your door a few days later, declared her victory by waving a couple of bright pink tickets in your face before firmly demanding you to be dressed and ready to go within the half hour.
You’d refused in the beginning. It had been a rough week and all you wanted was a glass of cheap wine, to lose yourself in some shit reality TV before passing out in bed and not moving for the entire weekend, but with Winnie—as always—she knew when to gently push you a little ways out of your comfort zone, and so here you were.
Surrounded by strangers, listening to music that’s not exactly your taste but was growing on you with every ear shattering song that played, and having the absolute time of your life. The pressure of the crowd was starting to get a bit much after a while however, and without even needing to say a word, Winnie links her arm with yours before fighting her way through the crowd, keeping you close behind her as she goes.
“Are you okay?” She shouts once through the masses to the dark open space behind the crowds where people were able to walk and sit freely without risk of being trampled, the roar of the music drowning out her voice.
“Yeah, I just started to feel a bit claustrophobic in all that,” you return in her ear, wiping away the sweat slicking your forehead with the back of your hand.
She nods in agreement, bouncing on her heels at the music that stills thrums through the venue. “It can be a bit much, especially if you haven’t done it before. Do you want to grab a dri—”
It’s the announcement of Razor Crest taking the stage that snatches her attention away from you immediately, and you snort at her look of pure wonder, her eyes widening as the lead of the previous band declares his loud thank you’s as people walk on stage behind him and start fiddling with instruments.
You push lightly at her shoulder, “Go! I’ll be at the bar, okay?”
“No, I—” she shifts on her feet, obviously wanting nothing more than to jump back into the crowds to enjoy her favourite of all time bands but not wanting to leave you behind in a place you’re unfamiliar with.  “I don’t want to leave you.”
You push her again, laughing. “Oh my god, Winnie. Go! I’ll be fine.”
She worries her lip between her teeth, perfect fluffy brows deepening into a little frown as her eyes roll back to you. “Are you sure?”
Rolling your eyes, you walk away without another word, shooting her a wide smile over your shoulder and laughing as she all but throws herself back into the crowds with a scream. The bar was quite busy and so you stand patiently to wait for the moment you could slip forwards and order a drink, but the brush of someone scooting behind you has you quickly stepping forward and throwing out an apology for being in the way.
“Oh, I’m sor—”
Wide brown eyes rimmed with thick dark lashes blink up at you, and you startle in surprise at the appearance of a small child, watching him continue on his way with a look of astonishment before casting a look around to see if he had slipped from any family or friends enjoying the concert.
No one seems to be panicking or screaming for their lost baby through the throngs of people. Your gaze flies back to the kid, watching him find the end of the bar and hoist himself into a free bar stool, shrugging the backpack from his shoulders and placing it on the bar.
A bartender sees him, and to your surprise they merely slide him a glass of orange juice before returning to other customers. No one else moves to bother him, or even acknowledges him.
His eyes find yours through the crowd and he smiles a wide toothy grin, his little hand gesturing for you to come closer. You do as he asks, slipping into the space next to him as he makes himself comfortable on the stool.
“Hi,” you greet warmly, though he probably couldn’t hear you with the absurdly huge bright green headphones digging into the mop of dark wild curls on his head, covering and protecting his little ears from the noise.
He drags a colouring book from his bag, followed by a packet of crayons and gets to work over a random page, a little pink tongue poking through his lips as he fills the blank spaces peacefully despite the wild atmosphere around him. He was so perfectly content in his own little world.
You watch him with a small smile pulling at the edge of your lips, widening when the kid spares you a glance, blinking once, twice, then sliding the open packet crayons over and moving so you could reach the open book spread out in front of him. Chuckling softly, you pinch a yellow crayon from the packet and get to work beside him.
Taking note of the little black braided cord bracelet hanging from his wrist as he colours, you tap the stark white beads spelling ‘Din’ out in bold black capitals.
“Is this your name?” You point to his chest for extra effect should he not have caught your question, watching as his little eyes fly up from his colouring to meet yours.
He shakes his head, gesturing to where the crowd screams and moves to the music, the new band on stage bringing out the wildest energy you’ve seen all night. He turns his attention back to the book, and flicks through older colourings, stopping and pointing to where a name is scrawled across the paper.
“Nico?”
Nico grins widely, nodding in excitement and pointing to himself. Curls bounce free and fall into his eyes and he blows them away with an exaggerated exhale, sipping at his juice before returning to colouring.
One page turns into two, and then four, and soon you’re sharing a packet of chocolate chip cookies he retrieves from his backpack. He glances at the stage when the event is drawn to a close, large groups already moving for the exit to no doubt continue their night elsewhere in the city.
“You mind if I hang out with you for a bit while I wait for my friend, Nico?” You ask when he pries the headphones from his ears and lets them settle around his neck, nudging him playfully.
He nods eagerly, packing away his belongings and spinning to keep an eye out for whoever was coming to find him. You don’t have to wait long, with a man striding through the crowd to where Nico sits innocently swinging his legs.
“Kid, I told you to stay out the back—”
Nico perks up instantly, grinning toothily and waving at the man who continues for him, his worried frown melting away with the closer he gets. You take a moment to observe him, from the dark shredded jeans hugging his thighs, to the heavy leather jacket that hangs from his broad shoulders.
It’s the eyes that send the first waves of attraction through your system, the magnetic pools of brown swimming with concern that soon gives way to a pleasant sparkle of affection with every step his heavy boots make towards the kid.
Your eyes follow the curve of his nose, the semi neatened facial hair over his jaw with a thicker moustache sitting above his lip and he’s just so... wow.
His hand runs over the back of Nico’s head in greeting, accepting the small hug offered to him before he catches you standing awkwardly off to the side.
“Who’s this?”
Nico’s grin widens, making a few brief gestures with his hands and the man hums, his eyes rolling back to meet yours with a flicker of interest, and you feel your chest warm, suddenly very aware of how you’re standing and presenting yourself to the handsome stranger.
“A new friend, huh?” A smile starts to pull at his lips and a heat washes under your skin. He holds a hand out, “Din.”
Din. The name on Nico’s bracelet. You take it while softly introducing yourself, trying your hardest not to fidget and fix your clothes under his observant stare. Did he have a problem with you hanging around his kid? He didn’t seem like he did, but a tug of anxiety pulls somewhere in your chest and you suddenly feel like you need to explain yourself.
“Sorry… I just—I needed to get away from the crowd and he offered a crayon. I couldn’t resist.”
“Yeah, he’s hard to say no to.” Din says, running a hand through his hair and brushing back the sweat soaked locks of hair sticking to his forehead.
A bracelet matching the style of Nico’s wound around his wrist peaks out as the sleeve of his jacket draws back with his movements, the white beads on his showing a bold ‘NICO’ and you warm at the sweetness of it.
“I like your bracelets.”
God, could you be any more awkward? You inwardly roll your eyes at yourself, trying your best to channel the energy Winnie had whenever interacting with strangers. She was a social butterfly, but it was never your kind of thing. Was that completely obvious right now?
Din doesn’t seem to mind the odd comment, and glances at his wrist, sharing a grin with Nico as he shakes his own little wrist to show off his bracelet.
“It took us a while to learn how to tie the damn things, but we got there in the end. He loves to make them now.” His eyes meet yours and your lips curl upwards automatically, your gaze falling to the floor. “Are you here alone?”
“No, my friend—she’s… somewhere. Probably trying to hunt down an autograph or two, actually. She’s wild for that last band.”
Din’s head slightly tilts in curiosity, his smile almost teasing. “But you’re not?”
“Um, not really. I mean, it’s my first time coming to something like this. I’ve never really listened to this kind of music before so I don’t know who any of these bands are, but I really liked it tonight.”
He chuckles lowly, the rough tone of it pleasant to your ears. “Well, I’m glad you had fun.”
Din’s attention is pulled away when Nico taps his arm, and you look away to give them a little privacy, casting a searching gaze across the venue in hopes of finding Winnie. She’s nowhere to be found, and you contemplate getting your phone out to text her before Din clears his throat softly.
“Look, uh—do you…” he trails off, throat bobbing with a quiet swallow as Nico kicks his ankle sharply, “would you be interested in grabbing something to eat? With us? Uh, now. If you want, of course—no pressure.”
Your brows raise in surprise. “Me? Really?”
Confusion leaks into Din’s gaze as you express your shock, but he nods, a twitch of a smile pulling at his lips when you fight your own bashful grin.
“Um, yeah. Yeah, I’d love to. Can I just find my friend and let her know? I’d hate to make her worry.”
They both agree, saying they’ll wait at the bar while you hunt Winnie down. You eventually find her, standing in a group of people still hanging around by the stage. When she sees you, she flies forward and pulls her shirt down to reveal a scribble on her chest, just above where her hot pink lacy bra runs along her skin.
“Look! Cobb Vanth signed my tits. This is the best fucking day of my life.” She gushes and you snort at her theatrics, hands winding around her wrists to claim her full attention.
“Okay, so don’t freak out.”
She stills immediately, focusing completely on you. “What happened? Do I need to kick someone’s ass? Point them out, babe. I got this.”
“Winnie, what? No. No. Um, so I uh… I think I have a date. Now, actually. And I was wondering—”
“What? Shut the fuck up! Who? Do you not want to? Do you need an out, babe? I can tail you. I can call with an emergency or something. I can cry on command, you know that. I’ll say my dad died or something—”
“Winnie,” you mutter, smiling as she quickly snaps her mouth shut after a quick apology. “No, he’s—wow. He’s… hot. And he has his kid with him, but he’s the sweetest little thing. I’d just like to spend a little more time with them, but I just wanted to make sure you’re gonna be okay?”
She recoils, slapping your arm softly. “What? Of course! But now I need to know who’s got you all shy and flustered so show me.”
“Don’t make a show of looking at him, he might be watching.”
“No, no. I got this. I’ll be discreet.”
“At the bar—leather jacket. Cute as a button kid with him.”
She hums in interest, slowly rolling her gaze to the bar before her mouth falls open and she starts staring. God, it’s so painfully obvious. ‘Discreet’ she says. You could slap her. You tug at her arms, desperate to get her to stop looking like a stupefied fish before he notices.
“Winona.” You hiss, shaking her slightly.
Her gaze snaps to you. “That’s Din fucking Djarin.”
“You know him?”
She snorts, “Uh—yeah. He’s only the fucking drummer of Razor Crest. Oh my fucking god. Oh my—this is insane. I’m so fucking proud of you, babe. Holy shit.”
Her hands fly to your chest, fussing with how your bra sits before you slap at her hands. The drummer? God you just made a massive idiot out of yourself. At least you saved what could have been a potentially awkward conversation with saying you actually liked the kind of music he played. What would he have said if you had hated it?
“He’s looking at you.” She murmurs, delight radiating from her features as she keeps her wide eyes purposefully focused on yours.
You try not to react, forcing yourself to seem casual and at ease despite the sudden awareness of his gaze on you. You swear you could feel it, the skin along the back of your neck tingling.
“He’s into you. He’s so into you. God, you have to tell me everything tomorrow.”
“Nothing’s going to happen. We’re just grabbing food.” You grin at her noticeable disappointment before stealing a quick hug and saying goodbye. You know that her stare follows you as you return to Nico and Din, and she throws you a big thumbs up when you turn to look at her as the three of you leave the venue.
Nico chooses a quaint little 24/7 diner just a little walk down the road, and he runs ahead to open and hold the door open for you with a cheeky smile before Din could do it himself.
You laugh when they share a little look, Din softly flicking Nico’s nose as he walks in after you. They slide into a booth on one side while you take the other, unable to fight the timid little smile creasing your cheeks as Din’s dark eyes follow your movements.
You order and fall into quiet conversation, watching in amusement as Nico wrangles some coins out of Din for the old jukebox at the far wall. He happily goes on his way, waving away Din’s song request with a roll of his eyes and Din relaxes into the leather seats, turning his attention back to you.
“He’s… quiet.” You say carefully, smiling at the boy stretching onto his tiptoes to put his coins in the slot.
“Yeah. They thought it would change when he came into my care, with having a permanent parental figure and all that. We tried, for a while. Did the whole doctor/specialist thing—but he learnt how to sign, and has been happy with that since. And I’m happy not forcing him to do anything he doesn’t want to do.”
“He’s wonderful, Din.”
Din nods with a radiant smile that has your stomach doing flips under the table. “He’s a real good kid. Don’t tell him I said that.”
With every minute you spend across from them, laughing at Din’s lame jokes and admiring the bond between him and Nico, you worry that the interest swirling in your chest is perhaps gaining a little too much strength way too fast considering Din is a complete stranger.
You couldn’t deny the attraction, though.
Every time his eyes would meet yours from across the table, you swear your heartbeat doubled, hammering against your chest and spreading a pleasant warmth under your skin. The way his eyes held yours when his fingers brushed along your own over the small salt shaker was enough to set fire to your insides, the following twitch of a smirk pulling at his lips a sign that he knew exactly what kind of effect he was having on you.
Your life was nowhere near as interesting as being in a band, and a popular one at that, but he still takes an interest in every word you say. He asks about work, your family, Winnie. Nico asks your favourite colour, movie, animal. You discuss TV, admitting that you’re weak for the trashy reality kind of TV and Din admits he’s watched Housewives of Atlanta on the road more times than he probably should.
“It’s just so bad—I love it.” He says, watching you curl over the table with a cramp from laughing so hard with a shine in his eyes.
A part of you wonders if this is just what he does. Din, that is. Is it just a regular thing he does on the road while touring; using Nico as a sort of fishing line to reel in any potential hook-ups that are soft on kids and weak for the idea of getting with a famous musician. It’s an ugly thought, but you don’t let it take hold, instead focusing on enjoying their company and relishing in the wild attraction Din manages to stir within you with just a smile.
It’s past midnight when you feel the night drawing to a close as Din refuses to let you pay, or at least pay for your share, before standing and leaving the diner. Nico’s been pouting ever since you excused yourself for the bathroom, and stubbornly refuses to look Din’s way whenever he addresses him, even now under the bright streetlight.
Din sighs and you send him a questioning look.
“He’s upset with me.”
You fight the pull of a smile, Nico dramatically crossing his arms from where he stands next to you and purposefully away from Din.
“Why?”
“Because I said it was late and that he needs to go to bed soon. He thought he had more time to play, I guess. I said we’re all tired, and you need to get home.”
“Well, I mean, if I’m not tired… what would be our options then? Would I still need to go home?” Your voice is quiet, unsure, as you pose your question.
You start to worry that maybe you were overstepping, or thinking there was an attraction there that maybe wasn’t even there at all. Were you pushing it? Was he not interested? Maybe that was his way of saying thank you and goodnight, and you’re here trying to drag it out. Your mind runs with all sorts of various scenarios in the few seconds since the words fall from your lips, growing more and more unsure of yourself until Din reacts.
Heat begins to curdle in the pit of your stomach as his surprise gives way to something darker. His tongue drags along his lower lip, eyes flicking over your face in search of something. He seems to find whatever he’s looking for after a moment, and steps closer, highly aware that Nico was still standing grumpily next to you. He lets his voice drop to a low murmur as his arm brushes against yours.
God, he smells divine.
“If you’re not tired, you could come back to our hotel. He’ll show you a few frog books and will probably pass out within fifteen minutes. We have a suite so he has his own room.”
You hide your grin, your heart thundering away in your chest. “I like frogs.”
It’s strangely impressive.
“Oh so you really like frogs.” You say, watching Nico line his collection of soft plush frogs of various sizes up on the coffee table in front of you.
Din lounges back into the cushions on the couch next to you, his jacket long discarded and giving you a delightful view of the ink that wraps his arms. His head rests on his fist, his elbow dug into the arm of the couch as he watches Nico organise them with a softness you’ve noticed only Nico conjured.
“He’s not done.”
Laughing, your head swivels to him. “What?”
“One whole suitcase is dedicated to frogs. They come everywhere. At first it was a game, we tried to find one in each state. And then the collection grew. And grew.”
Nico runs off, no doubt in search of more frogs and your giggle at his excitement, watching him disappear into a room just behind Din. You notice Din’s eyes on you and meet his gaze, a heat creeping up your throat and settling in your cheeks.
“What?”
His mouth opens, as if something was sitting on his tongue and ready to fall from his mouth, but then his lips close and he shakes his head.
“What?” You press with a grin.
“I was just thinking.”
“About?”
“Kissing you.”
Your heart jumps in your chest and your eyes fall from his, a wave of excitement rolling through your system. You look up at him from beneath your lashes, a shy smile creasing your cheeks and he shifts, moving forward and carefully cupping a large hand just below your ear, his rough thumb dragging along your cheek.
“Can I?”
Words fail you in the moment, and so you give a barely there nod, watching as his face comes closer until you feel his breath fan your face. Your eyes flutter closed the second his lips meet yours, soft and slow and just enough.
He breaks away from your lips after a few seconds, brushing his curved nose along yours and letting the moment wrap you in its tenderness until you’re chasing the press of his mouth, your stomach flipping as he returns it eagerly.
The next is harder, much of its innocence turned to need. Your hands fly to his chest, his soft cotton t-shirt crumpling between your tight fingers as a soft noise bubbles from your throat. It drives him on, his tongue sweeping along your lips until they part enough for it to slip into your mouth and run along yours.
Soft excited footsteps tear you apart and Din resumes his position, lounging back into the cushions before Nico re enters the room with a wicked shine to his eyes that has your blood rushing through your body.
You try to steady your breathing, cheeks aflame from the sudden twist of heat in your core as Nico returns to add to the mounting collection on the table, smiling and completely oblivious to what had just occurred. He takes a few minutes, ensuring to show you each and every new frog before running back.
“Surely there’s not m—”
He’s on you the second Nico disappears again.
Your words die in his mouth as his tongue pushes through your lips and you’re too weak to keep up, all but melting against him as he tastes your mouth, your hands searching for purchase and coming to rest on his shoulders, your nails digging into the bit of skin that his t-shirt didn’t cover.
His shaky exhale blends with your own at the bite of pain and he grins against your lips, his forehead coming to rest softly against yours.
“Fuck, you’re so beautiful.”
You don’t have time to say anything in return. Nico bounces back into the room brandishing the last few plush frogs and a couple of books tucked into the crook of his arm. He wiggles in between the pair of you on the couch and Din smiles softly at you over his curls, sneaking an arm behind Nico along the top of the cushions to run the back of his fingers down your cheek.
The three of you startle when the hotel door flies open. Din’s face falls into a glare as a man leads a group into the suite, the man’s eyes immediately falling to you tucked into the couch.
“Well now, who’s this pretty little thing?” He drawls, a southern twang melting into his words.
“Fuck off, Vanth.” Din grunts, “What are you doing?”
“We gotta go over schedulin’, sweetheart,” Vanth falls back into the armchair opposite with a sigh and grins, eyes bouncing between you and Din, “but don’t stop on my account. You know I like to watch.”
“Not in front of the kid, Cobb.” A woman mutters, breezing past to the balcony. She barely spares you a glance, her critical eyes sweeping your form in a quick study that has your shoulders curling in and body wanting to disappear into the couch.
“Kid? Oh hey—there is he! Didn’t see ya hidin’ in there.”
You glance over your shoulder and shift, suddenly incredibly uncomfortable with the amount of people in the room. Din follows your eyes, his frown deepening.
“Can’t this fucking wait? Nico has to go to bed and—”
“And what?” Cobb drawls teasingly. “You gettin’ in a little workout, drummer boy?”
A few people lurking behind the couch chuckle at the innuendo and mortification grows in your gut, a tingle of embarrassment trickling along your scalp. You clear your throat quietly, running a hand along Nico’s trying to communicate your sincere thanks and goodbye before attempting to meet Din’s eyes.
“I think I’m gonna go.”
His eyes flash to your face the second you speak, a war of emotions washing over his face before he sighs quietly. “I can—”
“It’s okay, Din.” You mutter softly, fighting to curl your lips into a small smile. “I’ll grab a cab downstairs. I don’t want to be in the way.”
“You’re not—”
The woman on the balcony suddenly appears where the glass door had been slid open. She leans against the frame, a lit cigarette pinching between her fingers and watching the scene unfold quietly.
“It’s okay,” you murmur, fighting the urge to curl in on yourself as you stand.
You’re very aware of how every pair of eyes are trained on you as you move, but it’s Nico’s little hand winding around yours that makes you pause. You crouch in front of him, giving him a genuine smile.
“Thank you so much for showing me your frogs, Nico. They’re the coolest frogs I’ve ever seen! You take care okay? And I loved hanging out with you tonight—thank you for keeping me company.”
His smile seems sad, almost as if he knew something was broken with the entrance of others. You don’t know whether he’d be comfortable with a hug having only just met you, so you settle for a gentle fist bump, softly combing back the curls hanging over his eyes before standing to walk to the door.
“Boba can drive her home.”
Your eyes fly to the woman at the balcony door in surprise, shrinking slightly under her stare. Someone stands at her words, and you want to refuse the offer, but decide to just smile politely and give her a nod of thanks.
Din’s standing and glaring at Cobb when you move your gaze to him, and Cobb at least has the good grace to look a little ashamed. You give an awkward little wave and start for the door, your heart sinking to the floor with every step. You didn’t think this was how it would end—so abrupt and cold.
A man waits by the door, and he’d scare you if it wasn’t for the small smile he gives you. He’s certainly a presence and a half. He offers you his hand with a brief introduction—Boba, head of security. Suddenly his intimidating aura makes a lot more sense.
Din pulls you to a stop just as you were walking through the door, his face seemingly guarded but you see the regret swirling in his eyes, the tug of disappointment at his features.
“I’m so sorry. I didn’t know—”
“Din, it’s fine. Thank you for the midnight meal, and for letting me hang out with you guys. It was really lovely.” You smile, ducking your head and following Boba to the elevator without giving Din the chance to respond.
Boba is a man of few words you find out, but the silence is comfortable, even after such a mortifying shit show of an end to the night. He stands like a man of security would, posture stiff and fixed, his hands cupped in the front of him as he patiently waits for the doors to slide closed once you enter the elevator.
A hand suddenly shoots between the doors before they could close and they slide open to reveal Din, cheeks flushed and breathing heavy from his sprint to the elevator from his suite. Your eyebrows fly up in surprise and you wait for him to speak.
“Can we see you tonight?”
You glance at Boba, who was carefully keeping his gaze pointed at anywhere that wasn’t the two of you. Gaze slipping back to Din, you chew your cheek before frowning. Din feels your hesitation, his brows deepening.
“I’ll keep them in check this time. They just took me by surprise tonightthey’re usually not this bad. I’ll keep them leashed and gagged to leave you alone.”
You sigh softly, a smile playing at the edges of your lips. “Look, I don’t know any of them very well, but something tells me Cobb would probably be okay with something like that.”
Boba chokes a snort down beside you before clearing his throat quietly and shifting his shoulders, quickly returning to ignoring the two of you. Din grins, his hand shooting to stop the door from closing on him.
“Is that a yes?”
You nod, smiling when Din moves forward to press a kiss to your forehead.
“No interruptions.” He promises softly against your skin, his fingers running along your jaw and gently tilting your face to press his lips to yours. “Come to the show tonight. I’ll give them your name at the door and they’ll bring you backstage.”
“Okay,” you agree softly, excited by the prospect of seeing him again despite him being right in front of you. “Backstage? With all the bands?”
Din nods, a little frown of confusion deepening between his brows. You shift on the spot, eyes rolling to meet his as your head tilts, a sly little smile pulling at your lips.
“Can I bring a friend?”

Whumptober Day 31. The last one.
"I thought that I was getting better" / emptiness / setbacks / "Take it easy"
"Stop trying to get out of those shackles, you're going to hurt yourself", Villain slapped Whumpee's hands down.
"Then release me. You can't hold me here, I need to get back to Hero's team", Whumpee shook the shackles at Villain.
Villain frowned, "your 'team' doesn't want you, just trust me on that. It will all make sense soon... I hope."
Whumpee laughed, "trust you? How do I trust someone who has tried to kill me several times?"
"That was before I knew your team's secret regarding you", Villain paced, "I don't have everything straightened out yet, and your escape attempts are really starting to get on my nerves."
Whumpee frowned, "let me go."
"No, just sit still and behave", Villain sighed, "please."
Whumpee crossed their arms and pouted. They tugged on the shackles a bit more, but gave up.
"Um Villain?", Whumpee looked up a few minutes later.
"Ugh, what?", they groaned.
"Sorry", Whumpee looked down, "is there any rule against me sleeping, are you going to force me into sleep deprivation?"
"No, by all means, go to sleep. Maybe then I can have some silence to work", Villain threw a pillow at Whumpee.
"Ooph!"
"Sorry, I wasn't aiming for your face", Villain balled up a blanket and threw it.
The blanket opened up mid-air and fully covered Whumpee.
Later Whumpee woke up and realized Villain wasn't around. They had picked the locks to the shackles and had finally gotten them undone before falling asleep. They were happy Villain didn't check.
They snuck up the stairwell, careful to insure Villain wouldn't hear or see them. They finally were able to see the exit.
Whumpee ran for it, accidentally tripping an alarm.
Villain ran out of a room when the alarm sounded.
"Whumpee wait", they yelled as Whumpee escaped.
"Great", Villain squeezed the bridge of their nose, "they got out, I have to wait for fifteen minutes while lockdown clears up, all the while they are getting away. Villain ran to their computer and logged in.
"Glad they didn't feel me put the tracking device on them while they slept", Villain watched the computer set up the tracking. They looked back at where Whumpee was sleeping, "of course you can pick locks", they sighed.
Whumpee had already gotten pretty far, they darted around a corner and leaned against a building to catch their breath.
Whumpee looked around, getting their barring.
"Hero should be off today. They will probably be at Headquarters", Whumpee started to walk, "wait until I tell them what happened. They will feel bad, not realizing I was kidnapped", Whumpee told themself.
Finally at Headquarters, Whumpee pressed the code to get in.
"Huh, maybe they did know I was kidnapped and had to change the code. Smart just in case I did give that information. I wouldn't have though, no matter the what."
"Whumpee is that you?", the speaker box on the side started.
"Oh hey Hero, yeah, I was captured by villain, but escaped", Whumpee grinned, "can I come in."
The door opened, and Whumpee entered.
Hero waited for them near the entrance, Whumpee could see a fake smile plastered on their face.
"Is everything okay?", Whumpee stopped.
"No, not really, I thought I got rid of you. You've caused me so many problems", Hero frowned.
"But I", Whumpee took a step back in shock, "what do you mean?"
"Heck Whumpee, you have no idea still? You are a bargaining chip in this city. You remember supervillain, they died two years ago? You are their child. The city forced you to forget through memory deletion and made me and the team keep you so the villains wouldn't turn you to their side. They would have an advantage if that happened", Hero started to walk to Whumpee.
Whumpee stepped back, "they were right."
Hero smiled, "I'm glad you know, now we can just put you in protective custody."
"No", Whumpee started to run.
Hero jumped forward and caught them, "I don't think so."
Whumpee turned and bit Hero, then ran when Hero pulled back.
"You little....", Hero yelled, "I'll get you, and when I do, you'll rot in jail in your parents' place.
Whumpee escaped and ran down the street. They found a hiding place behind a dumpster in an alley.
Whumpee pulled their knees to their chest, buried their face in their arms, and started to cry.
They sighed when the sky opened up, and it started to rain.
"How could I have been so stupid, I'm a pathetic pawn for this city. Just a throw away", Whumpee spoke out loud.
A sudden stop of rain made them look up, an umbrella was being hovered over them.
"Villain?", Whumpee sobbed, "how did you find me?"
"Tracking device", they smiled and knelt down, "I take it you found out the hard way."
Whumpee sighed and sadly nodded.
"I will say this once, and only once, but I told you so. I told you to wait and be patient, but no", Villain frowned, "Supervillain was my closet friend. You've unfortunately changed quite a bit to where I didn't recognize you at first, and I was doing a DNA test."
Whumpee looked down, "what now?"
"I would dishonor Supervillain if I didn't take care of their child. So if you'd like to come back with me to my base, and take an easy, you are welcome to do so", Villain smiled, "you can stay there as long as you need."
"Are you going to shackle me again", Whumpee grinned.
"Not unless you want me to, I'm still curious how you picked the lock", Villain stood and reached a hand down to help Whumpee up, "if you run away again that's on you, my base is your home so you can always come and go, but I'm not chasing you down again like this."
Whumpee took the hand and stood, "are you sure, Hero may target me now", Whumpee frowned.
"I count on it", Villain smiled as they started to go back to their base together, "Hero has a lot of things they've been hiding from the public, I can't wait to tear down those walls they've built. Once the public sees their precious Hero for who they really are, chaos will break free. The age of the villains will begin."
Whumpee stopped walking.
Villain turned and looked at them, "don't worry, you don't have to be involved if you don't want to be, you will have my protection to keep you safe."
"No, it's not that, this sounds so familiar. Like a dream", Whumpee frowned.
"It was Supervillain's plan, I'm only completing it for them. There is no way I would have come up with this on my own", Villain smiled, "your parent loved you by the way, that was the last thing they said when they died in my arms."
"How did they die? Hero says the government whiped my memory", Whumpee walked under the umbrella again.
"Hero and Superhero worked together to defeat them, it was an unfair fight", Villain started to lead them again, "your parent fought hard knowing you would be targeted. Superhero grabbed you before I could get to you. They definitely changed your appearance, I don't even want to know everything they did to you."
Villain looked around, "we should get back to base, we'll be safe there, let's hurry."
As Villain ushered Whumpee inside of the base, they looked back towards the street. They knew Hero was watching.
"What's wrong Villain?", Whumpee watched.
"Nothing, I thought I saw something", Villain took another look and saw Hero standing on the street, "just an imposter hiding under a cape", they grinned as they closed the door, and set the alarms.
"Hero is out there?", Whumpee took a few steps back.
"Yep", Villain turned to them, "no worries", some banging happened at the door, Villain pressed a button, "they aren't getting in. This base is indestructible."
"Whumpee come on, I'm sorry. Come back with me. I was having a hard day, and you caught me at a bad moment, I'm sorry. I should have never said that to you", Hero yelled, "I'll keep you safe, you don't know what you are doing."
Villain smiled, "they are realizing they made a mistake and told you too much, they want you back so they can erase your memory again."
The banging kept up.
"Well that's annoying", Villain pressed another button, "come here."
They watched a video feed of hero banging on the door, then a gun pointed at Hero. Hero jumped back and realized the gun was following them. They ran off after a few minutes of dodging bullets.
"Unfortunately I don't think you're leaving the base any time soon, they may wait for you to come out. We have to be smart about this", Villain watched Whumpee sit down, "you should lay low, and take it easy for a while."
Whumpee nodded.
Whumpee found Villain a bit later. They quietly walked closer.
"They're relentless", Whumpee heard a guard whisper to a different guard, while Villain worked nearby.
Whumpee caught Villain's eye.
"Hey, is everything alright?", Villain gave them their full attention.
"Yes thankyou, and thankyou for dinner", Whumpee looked at the monitors the guards were watching.
"Is-is that Superhero?", Whumpee watched as they attacked the base.
"Yep", Villain sighed less than amused, "they've been punching that spot for an hour now."
"They scare me, thay always have", Whumpee looked down, "whenever they came over to Headquarters I would hide in my room until they left."
Villain went over to the monitor and grabbed a mic.
"You're not getting in here. You can keep banging all you want, but your just wasting time. You know Supervillain built this base to protect their family and friends", Villain yelled.
"Give me back Whumpee or else", Superhero punched again.
Villain could see the blood oozing from Superhero's hand.
"Whumpee is back where they belong, safe from those who used them", Villain reached for a button, "if you don't stop punching that wall with your bloody fist, I'll paint the rest of that side with my guns."
Superhero looked down at their hand, "I will get them back, watch me."
Whumpee and Villain watched Superhero fly off.
Villain turned towards Whumpee, "are you okay?"
Whumpee nodded, shaken up at the thought of Superhero getting them.
"I won't let them", Villain seemed to read Whumpee's mind, "I lost my friend, I'm no going to fail them by losing their child. You trust me, right?"
"Yes", Whumpee turned to Villain, "I have some information I think might help."
"Great", Villain smiled, "let's get dessert and we can talk about it."

❝  you were my town, now i'm in exile,
seein' you out. ❞ - exile, taylor swift ft. bon iver
four years ago
Isabelle took a shaky breath and fiddled with the keys in her hands, 'Maybe I should just skip town and delete my number' she thought, but knew that was unrealistic.
She put her key in the door and walked in to Spencer lighting a candle, when he heard her he turned around and his face lit light up.
He ran to hug her "I just saw you" she smiled into his shoulder, "I know I just can't help it!" Spencer laughed before letting go of her.
"Hey, are you okay?" He noticed the sadness laced in Isabelle's eyes.
"Yeah, Um- can we talk?" She asked, Spencer nodded and they walked to the couch.
"I- I" she couldn't get the words out without crying, Spencer immediately started rubbing her back, Isabelle looked up to see his innocent eyes.
"We need to break up." She spat out, his face immediately fell.
"Baby, It's not you, it's me." She said, her voice breaking.
"Please don't- don't do this Isa." He pleaded, "I love you" she told him but it was no comfort "Wh- why are you doing this?" He begged.
"I- we're both graduating next year, we're going down our own paths." She tried to console him, key word: tried.
He started sobbing, covering his face with his hands, Isabelle pulled him into a hug and unexpectedly he returned it.
A few moments later she pulled away to look at his face, his eyes were red and tears covered his cheeks, she wiped them away with her thumbs but kept his face in her hands.
Isabelle leaned into kiss him, she never thought she'd ever be kissing him goodbye- well goodbye for good.
They gently pulled away from the kiss but Spencer leaned in to kiss her again, she could taste a mixture of their tears "Please don't make this harder than it already is" she told him leaning their foreheads together "Please Isa, Please."

During his night shift, Sunghoon swung around the city, looking around as he patrolled, making sure that nobody was committing a crime. He stopped a few times, fighting some bad guys and leaving them hanging in his webs, knowing that the police would take them to jail later. Whilst he was swinging on his web, he noticed a familiar figure sitting on the edge of a building.
The boy quickly turned around, making his way towards the building until he landed behind the small figure, ready to tell you his secret. You were busy, admiring the night sky as you thought about your current situation, blocking Sunghoon was harder than you thought. A tired sigh escapes from your lips as your phone screen glows. You quickly looked down and read Sunghoon's name along with three messages that you didn't want to open since he sent them in the morning.
Was it actually worth it? Did he really deserve a chance after all? Canceling one date due to ‘family issues’ is one thing but leaving you on read for days and standing you up was something else. You were really starting to doubt if the boy was actually interested in you, no matter what his friend said. You heard someone cleaning their throat behind you, making you turn around as you pocketed your phone.
You saw a red and blue suit, a spiderweb pattern covering part of his costume, your eyes traveled to his chest, seeing the spider even though you quickly recognised him. “Spiderboy?” you asked, frowning as you wondered what he was doing there.
“It’s SpiderMAN” the superhero replied, clearly annoyed before he let out a sigh. “Um, what are you doing here? Are you okay?” He asked, walking towards you and sitting next to you, his feet swinging from the roof of the building. Your eyes followed him, you were puzzled as the superhero seemed to get comfortable next to you.
“Yeah, I'm fine I guess…” You answered his question before you looked back at the beautiful view of the city. “What are you doing here though?” You asked him.
“Just taking a break,” he shrugged, his voice was strangely familiar, you've heard that voice but you didn't remember where. “I'm on duty now but I wanted to make sure that you were okay.” He mumbled, looking at you through his mask as he felt his cheeks getting red. “I mean you're on a rooftop you know, it's kinda dangerous.” He quickly explains, making you chuckle.
“It's fine, I always come here, it's very peaceful.” You mumbled, smiling before you tilted your head, looking at him. “Especially when you need to think.”
“Think about what?” He asked curiously, his eyes moved down to your lips, he wanted to kiss you so badly but he knew he couldn't just do it. You shook your head, licking your lips nervously before you talked.
“It's just-” you made a small pause, hesitating before you sighed, “okay, I've been talking with a guy for like almost a month, we had a date and it was so amazing!” You started explaining, Sunghoon smirked under his mask. “But then he suddenly ghosted me and I don't know, he's such a jerk.” Sunghoon blinked slowly, did he hear that right? Did you just call him a jerk? “He even sent his friend to cancel a date for him, who the fuck does that?” You said, frowning as you felt the rage invading your body. “You know what, I'm gonna block him now.”
You slid your hand into your pocket, pulling your phone out as you unlocked it, clicking on Sunghoon's contact. The superhero panicked, grabbing your phone from your hand as he pulled the device away from you. “Hold up, how do you know he was ghosting you? Maybe he wasn't!” He quickly spoke, trying to defend himself. “Maybe he was dragged by a strange portal that took him to a different universe where he met different versions of him, including one that was a kpop idol!”
“What?” You asked dumbfounded, “Spiderman, give me my phone!” You ordered him, placing your hand on the superhero's leg as you tried to reach your phone. The boy's hand fell on your waist as he pulled his arm away from you.
“No- wait- let me talk-” he gulped, feeling your hand moving higher on his thigh as you struggled, trying to get your phone back. The phone slipped from his hand as you both gasped, watching the device fall from the 15th floor. “Don't worry, I've got this!” He said, throwing himself into the abism as he shot his web towards the phone, saving it at the last second. He pulled it up, catching it with his hand before shooting his webs to the top of the next building. He swung around, avoiding some cars before he flew up back to the rooftop, landing in a cool position right in front of you. “I'm so sorry about that,” he apologized, passing you the phone.
“Well, thanks for saving my phone,” you took the device from his hand, pocketing it again. “I don't know what to do…” You whispered as the boy sat down again. “Do you… hate that boy?” He asked, feeling his heart crushing as he spoke.
“I don't think I hate him, I just feel stupid because I really thought he was interested in me,” you answered, looking at him. He looked down, feeling bad for hurting you.
“I've been there, I mean, I get him,” he starts talking, “you look like an amazing girl, I've been talking with you for a few minutes now but you have such a nice and warm aura that makes me so comfortable.” He turns his head, looking into your eyes even though he knows that you cannot see him. “Just by talking to you and spending a few minutes I can tell that you're a cute girl, someone very nice and someone who really deserves to be loved and praised all the time.”
You felt your heartbeat getting faster as the superhero talked, you just stared at him, playing with your hands shyly. “And I'm pretty sure that no one would do that to you, not on purpose at least. He must've been in a really hard situation because I don't think that anyone would ever ghost you after having a date with you, at least I wouldn't do that!” He felt his heart skip a beat, wanting to slap himself as he said the last words.
You frowned, a slight smirk appearing on your face before you talked. “Thanks for that, it was really sweet of you but… are you trying to flirt with me?”
“W-what if I am?” He stuttered, shrugging as he looked away, not wanting to keep eye contact with you.
“How old are you?” You simply asked. You'd be lying if you said that you weren't interested in the superhero, he was Spiderman after all, you always found him cool and thought that he was a good person. You've seen him on duty, doing everything he could to save citizens from villains and he even saved you once.
“I'm 20,” he answered, scooting closer to your side until his leg was grazing yours. “Is it okay if I flirt with you, pretty girl? I'll show you how good I can treat you if you give me the chance.” You felt the blood running to your cheeks as you blushed at the pet name.
“I-i’d love that, Spiderman.” You answered him, making the boy under the mask smile as he got another chance. You were about to speak again when you heard a beep sound coming from his watch.
“Shit, I need to go,” he said, looking down at his wrist. “Well, it was nice to talk to you, hope I see you again soon~” He cooed, standing up on the edge of the building. “Bye, pretty girl~” He mumbled before letting himself fall on his back into the abism. He shoots his web towards a building, swinging his way away from you, leaving you with a bright smile as you slowly realize what just happened.

Now Recruiting! ft. Inarizaki VB Boys - Part 7: The Summer is Ours
A/N: Took a while to update. This was supposed to come out before Summer ended because, well, it's a Summer chapter. And I had most of it written down but got stuck on the last part and a few others didn't convince me so I went back a few times to delete/change/add. And then a hurricane came, power took some time to come back and even after we had to deal with blackouts, my uni semester almost got fucked up since we lost three weeks of it so imagine how classes were to be able to make up for them. Thankfully I turned in my last projects this past Monday and got my grades today and they were all great!! I hope you enjoy this out of season piece. Happy holidays, everyone!
Summary: The team gets some well deserved vacation and goes on a trip. You all make the best out of hot Summer days, together.
Word count: 5,033

“Ya think she’s wearing the school swimsuit?”
“Yeah, she probably is.”
“Our school swimsuit ain’t that bad.”
“You do realize you sound like perverts.” Aran disapproved, standing close to the edge of the pool near where the twins and Gin were, Akagi next to him.
“That’s probably why she still hasn’t gotten in the water.”
You were at the school pool with the team, who officially had started their summer vacation. All the other way across, you sat in one of those lounge chairs chatting with Kita and Suna, each on one side.
“Oi!” Osamu called out. “What are you guys talking so much about?” making you three turn towards them.
“Oh. We’re planning a trip to the beach.” you gave them a closed lip smile. “Suna’s going home and we were trying to figure out a date we could all make it.”
“But we could just go without him.” Atsumu grinned at the middle blocker, “Do ya even like the beach, Suna?”  he asked knowingly.
“I don’t mind it.” He shrugged. Fucking liar, Osamu thought looking at him but unable to see his eyes, covered by dark shades. Last year when they all went together, Suna didn’t get foot in the water, standing under an umbrella almost the entire time, only joining the group to play some beach volleyball. He didn’t like the idea of eating while the wind was blowing sand everywhere and was all whiny afterwards when he got sunburnt.
“Yeah right, whatever. We can keep talking about it later. Now get in here.”  You couldn’t enjoy today if you kept only planning ahead.
Rolling your eyes, you obliged, pulling your shirt over your head and sliding off your shorts. And Osamu was right, you were wearing the school swimsuit. It was all black, with a V cut yet not deep enough to be inappropriate for school. “Do you need help putting on sunscreen?” The blonde offered a helping hand, apparently with all good intentions.
“Yeah, nice try.” you said. Still, you couldn't hide it got you a little flustered. The constant flirting would do that to you. He didn’t seem to mind the attention he got on himself and consequently to you when he did that, but you weren’t used to any of it. He chuckled as he noticed while the boys made fun of him for another failed attempt. What made them laugh even harder was when the captain got to help you apply some on your back instead, sitting behind you.
Suna hadn’t made a move to get in the water, until he stared at you, letting your hair fall to the side to help Kita. He grabbed the sunscreen conveniently just as you guys were done. “Suna, wait, um-.”  he looked at you. Standing behind him, you hesitantly placed a hand on his bare back, hands brushing the skin as you finished putting the sunscreen on for him. “There. You’d missed a spot.” You said nervously and moved away.
“I saw what you did there.” Osamu splashed water at him as soon as the middle blocker joined them.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” he played dumb, but as his shades slid down a little, he could see the playful glint in his eyes. If someone could feel the rapid beating of his heart, it would give him away that he wasn’t carrying the moment as smoothly as he played it out to be.
****
You had stayed at home for a few days, spending some time on your own enjoying the things you liked. Today, you felt like going out. It was hot outside, so going to the mall where there was air conditioner seemed like a good idea. Holding your younger brother's smaller hand, you both went from one store to another.
“Are you tired?” You asked after a while of walking around, seeing him rubbing his eyes. He shook his head but you knew better than that. “Sure you aren’t, tough boy.” you said, making him chuckle, and picked him up in your arms.
“I want ice cream.” he pulled back a little to look at you expectantly.
“Then we’ll get some and head back home.” nodding excitedly, he put his head back on your shoulder. You began your walk to the food court and to the ice cream shop and as you stood in line you started to crave yourself a cup of chocolate ice cream. “Do you want strawberry or you want something different today?” No response. He had fallen asleep. So you got out of the line, bidding a painful farewell to the sweet treat.
“y/n?” You heard someone calling out to you . Turning around, you were met with the twins and a smile was brought to your face.
“Hey, boys.”  They were now walking over towards you, bright smiles on their faces matching your own. “Can’t seem to get rid of you ever since I met you now.” you joked.
“I know you missed me.” Osamu winked at you and you chuckled. It was true, though. You’ve grown so fond of all of them these past few days without morning nor afternoon practice felt odd.
“You mean us.” Atsumu was quick to correct.
“No, not really.”  then he kept speaking to you, “What are you guys up to?”
“Ah. We were going to get some ice cream but he fell asleep.” You gestured with your head to the boy in your arms.
“Osamu and I were about to get some. Come with us.” Atsumu offered. You considered the offer. It was still early and you could use some time with your friends.
“Okay.” You four went back to the ice cream shop. Osamu helped you with your bags as you two looked for a booth while Atsumu went to order. You tried to pay for yourself but both boys shut you down, saying it was on them. Osamu excused himself as he went to help his brother while you stayed back at the table, your brother still peacefully asleep, his head on your lap as you played with some strands of his hair.
“Mint? With chocolate?”  you questioned.
“That’s what I always tell him.”
“I am not taking criticism from people whose favorite flavors are basic.”
“I wasn’t going to.” you chuckled. “But does it taste good?”
“You wanna try it?” He offered. You nodded, and Atsumu couldn’t believe what happened in front of his own eyes. His twin brother was sharing his food. And he wasn’t being pushed to do so either. His face contorted in protest, but he shut his mouth when he remembered your brother was asleep - not much out of politeness but more as he liked the little boy better when he was sleeping soundly -. Grabbing another spoon, you tried the mint chocolate chip dessert. Tilting your head, you took in the new flavor. After a few seconds you scrunched your nose, making Osamu laugh, ‘You didn’t like it.”
You shook your head. “It’s not bad… But I would still pick chocolate over it.”
“Your taste buds are broken.”
****
Summer went by fast, days blurring together. Glimpses of warm yellow afternoons, clear blue skies, and sometimes a rainy day interrupting them, bringing some relief.
As Suna arrived at the station, he stretched his arms over his head before standing up and grabbing his bag. While he crossed the doors, he saw some people standing outside, some waiting for their turn to board, others waiting to meet with the arriving. He didn’t expect to see anyone until the next day, so imagine his surprise as his eyes landed on a familiar face, her gaze shifting in search of someone while she stood on the tips of her toes and craned her neck a bit, until her eyes met his and a smile took over her face. He told himself he shouldn’t like that sight as much as he did. Feeling his cheeks warm up under his mask he looked away, getting himself together before walking over to you.
“Welcome back.” you greeted, before nervously starting. “I thought it would be nice to meet you here… Because it’s nice to have someone waiting for you, isn’t it? Is it okay for you? Maybe I should’ve asked first but I thought it would rui-” looking up at him again as you heard him chuckle, the words died in your mouth as you saw he had put his mask down, the crowd having dispersed, and a beaming smile was adorning his face as he stared at you, expression all soft. You felt your face heating up.
“Thank you for coming.”
“S-Sure.”
Something similar happened to him the next morning, as if recalling a favorite memory.
“y/n! Over here!” the boys called you over as soon as they spotted you among the small crowd at the station.
“Hey.” you greeted, “Sorry to make you wait.” you excused, looking around “Is everyone else here already?”
“Nah, Suna's still missing.” Osamu looked down at his phone, “Ah, he texted. Says he just arrived.”
It was pretty early, and Suna missed the comfort of his bed a little more with each step he took, still tired from his trip back to Hyogo the day before. He looked up from his phone after he texted Osamu looking around once again hoping to find one of his friends.
“Oi!” Turning around, he was met with his team. As he walked over, you turned around and again you didn’t hesitate to dedicate your smile to him (a funny feeling kept creeping its way on his chest) . “Finally, man. We thought you were bailing on us.”
****
As soon as you got to the beach, the twins raced each other to get on the water - but suddenly they made a harsh stop, hanging just by the shore, furiously warming up (it was dangerous to go swimming without doing so they recalled)-,you shouting behind them for them to put on some sunscreen but of course they paid no mind to you. They’ll regret it but now they felt they would regret more losing to each other. Everyone would have to deal with the consequences later. Kita and a couple of the others had stayed back to help getting settled on the spot you had chosen before joining the rest.
When you were done, you looked over dreamily towards the sea. It sure was a beautiful day to spend outside. Thankfully it wasn’t very crowded yet, so you could see the coast stretching far beyond, the water seemed to sparkle under the sunlight, so clear you could see the shore bottom. There were a few palm trees nearby, which brought a pleasant shadow over you to rest from the unrelenting sunrays. The sand was warm beneath your feet, as you wiggled your toes in it.
Simultaneously, the green opal eyed boy had been looking over the scenery too, but his gaze was anything but dreamy. It denoted something close to struggle, constricted in discomfort. Looking over at you and taking in your expression, he determined he’ll have a good time nevertheless.
“It’s so pretty today, don’t you think?”  you turned your head to meet his gaze. He thought his surroundings got brighter for a moment.
“Yeah, pretty.”
“Aren’t you joining the others?” You both looked out to where the rest of your friends were, the twins splashing water at each other, Akagi pointing excitedly at something in the water as Kita’s curious glance followed it, Aran was talking to Omimi before Atsumu accidentally splashed some water at him, his momentaneous peaceful spell effectively broken. You chuckled. Poor Aran.
“I think I’ll join later.” He settled in saying after a moment of contemplation.
You hummed. It was obvious to you back then when you were planning this outing that he wasn’t fond of this kind of scenery. But you wanted to try and make it more enjoyable for him this time around, or tolerable, at least. It wasn’t fair to leave him behind. Taking a deep breath, you suggested, “Wanna take a walk around first?”
****
You situated yourself in Atsumu’s shoulders as Suna did the same in Osamu’s. You were currently playing Chicken Fight.
“Don’t let me win.” You said to Suna jokingly.
“I wasn’t planning on doing so. You’re going down.”
“Please, y/n, we can’t afford to lose to these two.”  He wouldn’t be able to stand it.
I’ll do my best.”
And so the game began. You leaned over, careful not to lose your balance going forward and felt Atsumu’s grip on you tighten to keep you steady and safe. Reaching for Suna’s side, you tried pushing him, barely making him stagger. He chuckled mockingly at you which only provoked you, huffing determinedly, deep pout set on your face. So you went to push him harder this time. He was standing on the defense because he knew he didn’t have to do much to make you tumble. So when your hands reached forward you were met with his own, both putting some strength to avoid losing your balance - you were straining more than him, though, he was just putting enough to not let you push him off Osamu-.
“This is ridiculous.” You groaned out. “You’re stupidly strong. All of you. It’s not fair.”
“Giving up already?”  Again, that stupid, yet very nice you had to admit, taunting smile was directed at you.
“Never.” Freeing yourself from his grasp, you tried again. This time, he was surprised as he almost fell, but managed to recover. You, on the other hand, got so carried away by your almost victory that when he made his next attempt, you, ungracefully, tumbled down into the water, much to Atsumu ‘s dismay. You heard Osamu and Suna cheer as you resurfaced, squinting your eyes playfully at them as you moved your hair away from your face.
You all amused yourselves a lot the entire day. Playing volleyball later came to be a tougher yet funnier activity, with how the environment didn’t play a very supporting role with the boys causing them to make a few more mistakes they could’ve easily avoided were they in their usual setting.
“That was the wind!” The blonde protested after one of his killer serves’ trajectory went out of whack.
“Stop blaming the wind on you being a shitty player.”
They had placed a bet: losers would get buried in the sand. Yet, when the game was over and losers had to give in, they started to back track.
“Maybe if you hadn't been arguing half the game, you would’ve won. Now keep your end of the bet.” Gin sent a mocking smile to the twins while Suna pouted and squinted his eyes up at the sky, light skin visibly sunburnt already. Thankfully, he was on the winning team.
Just as they were about to surrender and give in, an idea sparked up in Osamu’s mind.
Osamu had a nice smile, you always thought. Kind of a lazy smirk that was quite attractive. But right now he was grinning at you, and you didn’t like it. You could only have an idea of what that could possibly mean, and it wouldn’t  end up good for you. “Whatever you are thinking, it’s a no.”  you rushed to say, emphasizing with a profuse shake of your head and your gestures. That caught the attention of the rest, which quickly caught what was happening. “I wasn’t even playing.” Because you were keeping the score.
“C’mon, it’ll be fun.”
“Then you go and accept what’s coming for you.”
The attention was effectively shifted towards you and they totally forgot about the initial point of the bet. Guess who ended up covered in sand? (Atsumu sacrificed himself and ended up under the sand beside you. Osamu jokingly threw a handful of sand over his head, then wrote over him “Here rests the lamer twin”. When Atsumu managed to get out of there, a cackling Osamu set out running with his bickering twin hot in his heels.)
When they got you out, you went into the water to get the excess of sand off you. Kita was starting to build a sandcastle when you got back out. Joining him, you set to do one beside him, while Akagi joined the captain. Your work, however, was quickly criticized.
“Uhhh,” Suna started, fighting a smile, as he looked down between you and your blooming architectural project, “What are you doing?”
“A sand castle.” you answered, oblivious to his tone or the look on his face until you heard Akagi snort and looked up from your work. Rintaro found hilarious, yet very cute, how your face morphed from pure enthusiasm to complete offense in mere seconds as you took in their expressions.
You looked between Akagi and Suna, “What?”
Your “castle” had one of its towers collapsing, the others looked like tiny mountains. There even was one which looked more like a cone or pyramid, as if someone had just picked up a bunch of sand and thrown it in the spot without bothering to shape it. Looking over at Kita’s, you saw two twin towers imposingly upright on front, and two matching ones at the back, its walls forming a perfect little square. Staring at your poor little castle, your high spirited spark died and fell from your eye. Even Kita chuckled, as his all devoted eyes looked at you.
Suna sat down opposite to you and flicked your forehead, making you yelp, hand flying up to the offended spot. “Stop pouting. Let me help you.”
“Oi, ‘Samu, I bet I can make a better sand castle than you.”
“Why do you two turn everything into a competition?”  Omimi asked in vain, for Osamu was already agreeing.
“Bet.”
“I think it’s missing something.” you said while inspecting the improvements over the small sand structure, “We should decorate it.” the idea lighted up like a lightbulb over your head, eyes roaming the sand. You walked a bit further.
The boys looked at each other, still not getting where you were going with it, “What exactly are you searching for?”
“This.” you crouched down and picked up a few small seashells.
Suna smiled, unbeknownst to you, as you excitedly carried on your task. “Do we get extra points for creativity?” you joked as you finished and turned to look at him, then at the others.
As early evening rolled in, you had all gone to the showers and changed into your dry clothes. The boys suggested one last activity before having to leave, as they got out of their bags a bunch of fireworks they had acquired from who knows where.
“We’re going to miss our ride back.” You stressed.
“There’s still plenty of time, relax.” Atsumu walked over to you, handing you a sparkler while giving you a smile. You hesitated to get pulled into it but to no avail.
Reaching for it attracted by the shining light which reflected in your eyes and casted a warm glow on your faces under the twilight, you spun it around, face illuminated also by your excitement as the blonde watched you. You met his eyes, but the little moment was broken by a loud explosion, startling you and looking in its direction.
“Oi! Why the hell you bring that? You’re gonna get the police called on us.”  But there were no signs to be alarmed. You all laughed it off and kept walking or running after each other along the shore, fireworks dancing in the air.
****
“I’m melting.” Atsumu complained, voice distorted as the fan placed on the table close to his face, turned towards him. Some of his hair was sticking to his forehead, moist with sweat.
“Yeah, and you’re not sharing the damn fan.” Osamu tilted the appliance over, further to his direction. He was sitting beside his brother.
You had all crashed over at Suna’s to help him settle back in properly. Now that you were done, the twins sat down on the floor by the table, while you cut some fruit on the small kitchen. Suna was standing by your side. For a while, he kept brushing his hair back and out of his face until he gave up and grabbed a hairband instead. You had to stop yourself a couple of times from staring at him, nothing obstructing the view of his features. You stood there in comfortable silence as you worked and he revealed some plates out of the cupboard.
When you both walked over to the other pair, they both thanked you as you passed them the food, and Osamu brought something up, “There’ll be fireworks tomorrow night. We should all go.” He shrugged, giving his watermelon slice a great bite.
“You’re coming, right, y/n?” The blonde insisted on your confirmation.
“Oh. Sure.” You smiled at them.
“Are you wearing a yukata for the festival?” Osamu prodded.
“Maybe.” you hadn’t worn a yukata in years. “I might go see the sunflowers during the day.”
“We could go with you if you like.”
“Okay.” So it was settled.
The next morning, the four of you met and made your way to the sunflower fields and walked along rows and rows of them.
“Atsumu.” You called the blonde, and as he turned to look at you, you took a picture on your phone.
“Oi! I wasn’t ready for that.”  He protested as he made silly poses to make you laugh.
“She could’ve let you know hours in advance and still it’ll turn out bad.”
“I still can’t believe people like you better than me.”
You turned, hoping to find Suna near you but he was nowhere to be seen. You frowned, walking back the way you came. As you rounded a corner and almost reached the entrance where there was a small stand with buckets filled with sunflowers ready for sale, you saw him.
“There you are, Rin-“  The rest of the words vanished as one bright, yellow bloom appeared in front of you. Suna was offering one of the flowers to you. Extending your hand, you went to take it from him, fingers brushing as you did.
“Thank you.” you smiled down at it, then back up at him.
“Don’t thank me.” He patted your head, faint blush covering his cheeks matching yours. “What are you doing?” He questioned as he saw you aim your phone towards him.
“Picture? It’s just… You look pretty. And the sunflowers…” What the hell were you saying? You stopped yourself as you looked over at him, faint blush now a bright pink. He covered your mouth with his hand in case you planned to kill him with another comment, making your eyes widen as he pulled you next to him.
“Excuse me, sir.”  He called a man who was about to walk by. “Could you take us a picture, please?”
And so you got your pictures. The man took several just in case. In the first one, you were looking up at Suna with a bright smile as you took in his reaction. The second one, he tried to hide his face a bit by placing his head on top of yours, and he was smiling on the rest.
Evening came, you were almost done getting ready to go out with your friends. The invitation was extended to the entire team and you were to meet them there. Your mom helped you put on your yukata. She stared at you through the mirror in front of you, she seemed happy. “I like that you’re going out more.”
When you were done, you made your way to the festival. There were a lot of stands, so you didn’t know where to go first to find them. It wasn’t necessary, for as you took out your cellphone to shoot a quick text on the team's chat, Shinsuke stood in front of you, wearing his own yukata. He had a placid look on his eyes, seeming as if he was enjoying the night outing, while they took their time to take your appearance, “Good evening, y/n. You look nice.”
“Thank you.” you smiled at him, “Not looking so bad yourself.” As you began walking, you asked, “Have I missed much?”
“Not really. Atsumu has been trying to get every prize he can at the games while the others stop by the food stands.”
It was not longer after that that Suna found a noticeably - coming from him any evident sign of emotion was something to take seriously- uneasy Kita.
“Kita-senpai?”
“Suna. Have you by any chance seen y/n?”
“She got here already?” Kita took that as a no.
“Yes, not so long ago. As we went to join you guys I looked beside me and she was gone. I’m worried she got lost in the crowd.”  Kita was beating himself up for it pretty seriously. If he’d been more careful, he could have prevented this from happening.
Suna tried calling you, while looking side to side hoping to get a sight of you. No answer. It was directed to your voicemail.
Both boys tried to reach you, unsuccessfully. Finally, they updated the rest and each went their way to look for you and agreed to meet near the entrance after some time if there weren’t any news.
While you tried making your way back to Kita or hopefully find any of the others, you’d catched a glimpse of a gloomy little boy standing alone. It seemed like he had been crying not too long ago.
“Hey, darling. Are you lost?”  he nodded, sniffling and rubbing his eyes.
“Mommy told me to stay by her side but I wandered off to play and now I can’t find her.”
By now, Suna swore he had walked the festival grounds thrice. And no sight of you. He was about to ask the others again when suddenly you showed up in front of him like an apparition. Relief washed over him as he saw you, and then he took in what was happening. You had a little boy in your arms, and he had signaled over to a woman excitedly, screaming for her. When the woman heard him, she turned sharply and hurried to meet with you. She took the boy from your arms and hugged him fiercely, while you smiled watching them reunited and she thanked you. Before they left, the little boy reached for you and gave you a hug and kissed your cheek. Only when you were alone, you realized your situation. You had become the lost kid. For one second you got distracted with your phone, and when you turned, you collided with Suna, who held you in a secure grip by your arm.
“I’ve been looking everywhere for you.” Was the first thing he said, taking your full presence now, starting from where he felt your skin under his touch as he held you to staring at all of you. Your hair was unusually styled up, a bit disheveled by now. You had put a little makeup on, and were wearing a yukata too. To him you appeared absolutely breathtaking and just for a moment you stared at each other. But then he noticed the small cut on your temple and brought his hands to both sides of your face.
“Are you hurt?”
“That’s…  I fell while looking for Kita-senpai. There were these people handling a giant puppet and they didn’t see me so we crashed.” You hurriedly explained, flushing deeply under his concerned gaze as you avoided eye contact and gestured with your hands. He caught one of your hands as he saw your scuffed palms. “And my phone got broken. But I’m okay. Then I found a little boy who lost his mom and helped him find her. So I guess it’s good I got lost too.” You chuckled nervously.
The next thing Suna did caught you by surprise and almost killed you on the spot. He held both your hands up to his lips and kissed them right over your hurt skin. Then a kiss to your temple.  “There. Now’s much better.” He smiled at you, then offered his hand. “I’m not losing sight of you tonight.”  Nodding hazily, you took it and started walking - might as well floating- while your brain tried to make sense of what had just happened.
“Y/N! It’s really you!” Suna let go of your hand as you got closer and  the group spotted you coming.
“What are you on now? Of course it’s really her.”
He skillfully brushed off the comments and approached you, grabbing your face much like Suna had done earlier, only his face was much closer, and you could smell the sugar off his breath from whatever sweets he had been eating earlier. If you were still holding hands you would’ve noticed  how tense the latter got. “Are you sure you’re okay?” What happened to your forehead? And your face. It’s a little red. Actually no, it’s redder now. “ Only when your gaze traveled quickly between his lips and back to his eyes, he realized how close he was and his breath cut in his throat. Atsumu blushed deep pink before Osamu broke the awkward moment for everyone.
“Get out of her face, dude. Trying to steal the air out of her lungs? No wonder her face’s red.”
“Y/N.” Kita started later, careful as you both sat on a bench and he placed a band-aid on your palm, the cute plushie a shy Atsumu had won for you sitting on your lap. “I’m so sorry for not noticing earlier that you were missing.”
You gave him a soft look. You didn’t think he'd take it so personal. “It wasn't your fault. Stuff like this happens.” You tried to reassure him.
“But something worse could’ve happened to you. And if only I’d been more careful-”
“It didn’t. And it wouldn’t have been your fault if it had.” You looked at him waiting to see if he understood. He gave you a slight nod and you smiled contentedly. “Besides, I’m tough, don’t you think?” That made him laugh. "What? You don't think so?" You faked offense.
"No- I mean yes. You are." You thought you saw a faint blush covering the apple of his cheeks. You let out a small chuckle, then you stood up.
“Now, let’s have fun all together." And he followed you to join the rest.

Valentine’s Day, the day of the year people celebrate their love.
Charlie was feeling really nervous. It was the first time in a while he had a Valentine and he really wanted to impress him. They met a couple of nights ago at a bar, and Charlie doesn’t usually ask someone out for valentine’s after meeting them just the one time, but they really seemed to get along so he thought ‘why not’.
He had a few ideas for tonight, but none of them were good enough. Or so Charlie thought. He looked at his phone and realized he was running out of time “Why do I always end up deciding everything at the last minute” he thought, feeling a little frustrated with himself.
“Picnic it is” he finally decided. He kind of knew how he wanted this to turn out, so it was a little easier to put together. He gathered everything he needed and called his date. He didn’t pick up. It ‘s ok, he can text him.
(2:58 PM) Charlie - Hey! I don’t know if you’re busy right now but I just wanted to tell you that everything is ready for tonight. See you in South Winter Lake at 8pm!
Two hours later and he still hasn’t texted back. It was now 5 PM and Charlie didn’t know what to do. What if this guy doesn't show up for their date? He decided to go to the lake anyway to set everything up and hope for the best.
It took a while but he was finally done, everything was ready and he thought he did a good job. He looked at his phone. It was 6:·30 PM and still no signs from his date. He was starting to feel a little overwhelmed with this feeling. He was genuinely sad.
“Not again” he thought to himself. This has happened before, a couple of times actually. At this point he thought he shouldn’t be surprised at all, but he still couldn’t help but feel sadness above everything else.
Something pulled him out of his head. He heard his phone and quickly reached for it. It was a text, it was him.
(6:36 PM) Chris - Hi Charlie! I’m so sorry but i don’t think i can be there tonight, something came up and my plans have changed. We can go out some other time though. And again, I'm so sorry, see you next time!
And it happened again. He stared at his phone thinking about what to say, he didn’t wanna seem like it hurt him as much as it did, they just met a couple of days ago anyway. After typing and deleting a few times, he decided to just be polite.
(6:39 PM) Charlie - Hey don’t worry, next time it is!
He picked up everything, threw it in his car and started driving back home. He didn’t know what to do, Elle and Tao were out of town, Aled had plans and Nick… he didn’t know about Nick, but he was sure he had a date, he usually did.
He was used to that, and it was okay, even though he didn’t really understand why that happened. He never went too deep into that cause he really didn’t wanna open that door, he could never close it.
After a few kilometers of driving, Charlie heard his phone again, but he couldn't see it. He tried looking for it but then remembered ‘it’s in the trunk’. He stopped to look for his phone. It wasn’t ringing anymore but he needed it anyway. Once he finally found it he saw a missing call from Nick. He was extremely confused, why was Nick calling him while he was on a date? Maybe it was an emergency, so he immediately called him back.
“Hey Nick?” He said, the desperation in his voice was a little obvious
“Oh- hi Charlie” he sounded weird, different from usual
“Is everything ok?”
“Yeah, um- I was just wondering if you still have that Spider Man video game”
“Oh yeah. Um- do you want it?” Charlie asked, relieved it wasn’t an emergency, but still a little confused as to why Nick would need a video game right now
“If you’re not busy right now-”
“NO! I can drop it off at your house” He replied, turning on the engine of his car to get back on the road
“Yeah that would be fine, but I could-”
“Alright, I’ll be there soon”
“Oh- ok, thanks”
He then hung up and started driving to his house as fast as he could. He got there and only had time to grab the game and then leave.
Charlie had always had a thing for Nick, especially back in school but he eventually left for university and didn’t see each other as much. That was until they both moved to the same neighbourhood and became really close friends. But right now, he wasn’t exactly sure what it was, but it was something. He never said or tried anything, he could never have a chance with someone like Nick, and he was sure Nick didn’t feel the same way and Charlie didn’t wanna ruin their friendship out of curiosity.
When he was arriving Charlie parked his car and saw Nick waiting for him in the front door.
“Hey! I’m sorry I took so long” he said getting out of the car, Nick just laughed as he saw his friend struggle to get out of the car.
“It’s ok, I have a lot of time” the blonde paid attention to Charlie’s outfit, he was visibly worried “Were you on a date? Charlie I’m so sorry, I really shouldn't have called you”
“Well, you saved me actually” he said as they both entered the house
“I did?” Nick raised his eyebrows in confusion
“He stood me up”
“Oh Charlie I’m-”
“It’s ok, you don’t have to be sorry, his loss” Nick couldn’t help but laugh
“You’re right”
“What about you? Shouldn’t you be on a date right now?”
“No, not this time”
“So Nick Nelson is just playing a Spider Man video game for valentine’s this year?”
“Yeah well… you know, I’ve been really busy with work lately” He said as he looked down
“Oh… well it’s not like we need dates, I mean it is absolutely ridiculous if you think about it, why is Valentine’s Day such a big deal? Like you can go out any other day, you can show love every single day, we don’t need Valentine’s Day, so don’t worry about it” Nick just laughed, but he knew Charlie was right
“I know right? The world should stop making a big deal out of it. Valentine’s Day is just a thing so they can charge twice as much for champagne”
“And why worry about dates and all when you can just play with your friends” He said pulling out the video game Nick had asked for
“Exactly” Nick laughed as he took the game from Charlie
“Anyway, are you hungry? I have a lot of food… and overpriced wine” Nick laughed again
“Yeah, I could use some of that”
“Good cause I have a whole picnic in my car”
“A picnic? You planned a picnic for your date?”
“Yeah… it’s not a big deal”
“Charlie-”
“Could you help me with everything? It’s in my car” Charlie asked him in a serious tone, and Nick just nodded and followed his friend
They got everything and decided it would be nice to set it up in the back, so that’s what they did. Once it was done they just sat there, ate everything, drank everything and talked about whatever they could think about. And the hot topic of the moment was really bad dates.
“He stole my watch and I didn’t notice until I left the train station” Nick said a little embarrassed but laughing at the situation
“No way!” Charlie replied, laughing a little harder than he should have. “How did you not notice immediately?”
“There are clocks at the train station! I didn’t need to look at my watch to know the time” And Charlie was laughing even harder “Plus, I didn’t think I would need to cheek if he stole something from me”
“Ok fine, you win, that definitely sucks” Charlie replied trying to calm down “Sounds like you should date me instead, I have never stolen anything from my boyfriends” Charlie said jokingly, as he poured himself another glass of wine
“Maybe” Nick said laughing. Charlie’s heart stopped. He knew Nick was joking but that made him feel way more nervous than he would like to admit
“Um- it’s getting kinda late” he said putting the glass down, he probably had way too much wine anyway “I know you have work in the morning”
“Oh- yeah… yeah you’re right” Nick replied with a low voice
“You can keep the rest of the food, I know I’m not gonna eat it if I take it back home” Charlie said standing up and gathering a few things.
He didn’t wanna leave like this but after feeling the way he did with just one maybe he knew he had to. He didn’t wanna embarrass himself tonight, not in front of Nick. He put everything back in his basket and was ready to walk out.
“Charlie-” He takes the basket from Charlie’s hands and tries to talk to him
“Nick, it really is late” Charlie said with a smile, trying to make it less obvious he was screaming inside
“Alright” Nick smiled, looking at the time and realizing how late it was “I just… I had a lot of fun tonight, we should definitely do this again”
“We will, you bring the wine next time tho” They were laughing again as they walked towards the door and Nick was still carrying Charlie’s stuff. Charlie opened his trunk
“You probably shouldn’t drive right now”
“Oh…” he said frustrated, he just wanted to get home “It’s ok, I can just walk home” Charlie closed his trunk and locked his car, trying to take the rest of his stuff from Nick
“I’ll walk with you” Nick said taking a step back, preventing Charlie from taking his basket
“You don’t have to-”
“C’mon, I’m not gonna let you walk alone with a whole bottle of wine in your system” Nick joked, but he really meant it when he said would never let Charlie walk alone so late at night
“Hey, you drank like half of it” He said punching his arm playfully
They lived close, so it wasn’t a long walk, but for Charlie it felt like they walked for hours. He was feeling anxious and he wasn’t exactly sure why. Nick was right, they had a really good time tonight, so why ruin it for no reason?
They finally arrived to Charlie’s place “Thank you for walking with me” he said finally taking the basket from Nick’s hands
“I had to make sure you didn’t steal anything” They tried to laugh as quiet as possible, but being drunk who knew how loud they were actually being “Thank you for dinner, I hope this doesn’t end up being a ‘really bad date’ story”
There it was again, that same feeling. Charlie knew Nick was bisexual, he heard that when he went to university and years later Nick told him himself, but he never considered the possibility of being with him. He didn’t even know this was a date to begin with.
“I was hoping the same thing, I wouldn’t want you telling people I was so drunk you had to walk me home” Charlie said as they both let out a laugh, feeling somewhat relieved Nick didn't think he was a complete loser
Nick was happy, and it really showed “I’ll call you in the morning” he simply said, waving goodbye as he made his way back home “Good night Charlie! Thanks for everything!”
“Be careful! Let me know when you’re home!”
“I will! Bye!”
Charlie stayed there, watching Nick walk home until he couldn’t see him anymore. Once he went inside he let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. Immediately he went to bed, he was exhausted and feeling a little lightheaded. He stared at the ceiling until he heard his phone ring next to him. He smiled unconsciously cause he knew exactly who it was.
(12:19 PM) Nick - I’m home! I had a great time tonight, thank you :)
