there’s basically two “tracks“ for post-game missions: taking on Mirei’s challenge of defeating the entirety of the Royal Knights, and helping Sayo recover her partner, Dianamon. this is a brief look into the latter: it’s basically a grand total of 8 cases, where the first 7 is to take on the 7 Deadly Digimon. the first one i clicked on, Creepymon, thrashed me really quick. so maybe it’s better off to wait on that front.

on an interesting point, Sayo said she defeated the 7 DD in her world before, but this isn’t something you do in Dusk. more interestingly, you only have to fight Beelzemon BM as part of the Gaia Origin challenges, and Lilithmon is considered one of the Three Great Demons. the other five... apparently, Creepymon is in Dusk as “Daemon“? i’ll try to check this. Lucemon is there as it’s pre-evo, but the rest are non-existant as far as i can gather.

i looked into it, but i won’t edit that last paragraph for precise record keeping. Lucemon CM does indeed evolve into Creepymon, it’s just that this Creepymon is actually a different form than the one in Cyber Sleuth, and that one is part of the Three Great Demons alongside Lilithmon there. neat.

After sort of a dry spell in since April due to all the collabs actually getting their proper run in cafes/stores etc, there is finally some excitement for the 25th Anniversary celebrations again (tbh they should've announced this on the livestream smh smh) . The theme this time is "marine" and it's a nice follow up to the Digimon Tamers merch that was announced about a month ago.

The vibe of being part of a crew is coming off really well through the outfit design, but the key point is the pins of their crest and the type of hat that the kid is wearing. If you look closely, Koushiro, Takeru among the boys are not wearing the officer style hat but berets and their pins are missing as well, similarly for Hikari her beret hat is differently style than the other girls with the missing pin. Koushiro and Takeru are also not wearing ties like the other boys but the sailor knot, which leads me to believe that this is a reference to the their roles on the ship, implying that Koushiro, Hikari and Takeru still lack a designation.

When we look at the other kids, the difference in roles becomes much clearer.

While Taichi greets us with a perfect salute, Yamato takes the helm. A very interesting take where Taichi (as the Captain?) sets direction and Yamato ensures that they follow his desired path. Tbvh I could write a whole essay about why this specific depiction of their roles is so groundbreaking, but for now I'll just end on how whenever they're depicted as a team, the sense of equilibrium between the two of them is never lost.

Next we have Sora and Mimi and again the detailing in their positions to their actual roles in the show is very visible. Sora is on lookout duty, keeping watch against any unchartered occurrences, making sure that the crew can be alerted before disaster falls. Koushiro, Hikari and Takeru are for me the most interesting of the lot for the reasons pointed out earlier. While the other kids are portrayed as taking some sort of role on the ship, these three seem to be enjoying their times as cadets (in training?). Especially Takeru and Hikari, who are the youngest, are having fun playing around with their partners. Koushiro on the other hand, definitely wants to contribute in some way, and maybe the best way Taichi and Yamato could get him to stop tailing them was to put him on fishing duty lol.

All in all, this is a great piece of illustration, I'm glad we got some more new outfits! If someone has a more in depth understanding of how things work on a cruise ship or similar, please share your thoughts and let me know how you interpret the roles here!

Izzy is the problem solver of the group. In fact, without him, the other kids are just... Kinda lost. Izzy has the answers, and if he doesn't he'll at least know how to find them.

Even though he's younger than the others, being 10 when they're 11, they treat him as an equal. This is opposed to the other kid that's 10, Mimi, who is kind of coddled, and the two youngest, TK and Kari, who are literally the hope and light of the group.

Izzy is basically Tai's second-in-command, deferring to Tai's leadership while Tai takes his input very seriously. However, Izzy isn't much of a leader on his own.

He gets distracted by details. When Mimi finds him in the temple, he's so busy on his laptop that she gets upset and runs off into a maze. I would attribute this to him being younger, and as he gets older he does get better at applying his intelligence to a leadership role.

Most of the kids have an interesting family dynamic and Izzy is no different. It's revealed that he's adopted, that his birth parents died shortly after he was born and his adoptive parents were friends that took him in.

What I like about this reveal is that, of course, Izzy found this out on his own due to his curiosity. He overheard his parents discussing whether or not they should tell him, deciding not to because he's too young.

During the Odaiba raid, when the kids have a moment, Izzy gets to finally have the conversation. They admit that he's adopted and tell him what happened, and he says he already knows. He didn't want to bring it up himself because he thought he could just pretend like things were normal, like before he knew. But obviously it couldn't. This shows the price he pays for his curiosity, that sometimes knowing things isn't all fun times and computer jargon. It isn't helpful for Izzy to pretend to not know, to ignore what he knows. Instead it's better for him to apply what he knows to react appropriately, instead of hiding behind the easier mode of willful ignorance.

This also comes into play, though in a different way, during Izzy's confrontation with Vademon. Izzy gives away his curiosity (under extreme duress but still) and is basically empty of all character after that. He does a weird alphabet yoga meditation and willingly gives up his crest and tag, when earlier in the episode his curiosity was at a boiling point over it.

This causes Tentomon to de-digivolve to the baby stage; the only other partner Digimon to go back to this stage is Patamon. With the loss of his curiosity, Izzy has lost the core of his being and is no longer able to maintain Tentomon's existence.

Of course, he gets it back and everything is fine afterwords. This episode is very interesting when looking at how things work for the kids and their Digimon, why the crests are important, etc. But that's a post for another time.

Izzy is incredibly important to the team. Without him, I highly doubt they would've made it very far at all. He's able to look up Digimon on his laptop, kind of like a Digimon version of a Pokedex, when none of the currently present Digimon can give an explanation about who they're up against. But aside from his usefulness as the Smart Kid, it's noteworthy that he uses his intelligence to be helpful instead of lording it over everyone. And he is still a kid, albeit with an impressive vocabulary, so sometimes his curiosity gets him into trouble.

Hello there, so I found a few games that feel like they incorporate some of the same themes as Monster Hunter Stories, although nothing hits what you’re looking for exactly. I tried to look for games that were either inspired by the Monster Hunter franchise, or emphasized positive, co-operative relationships with monsters for this recommendation.

Animon Story, by Zak Barouh.

If you’re looking for monster companions in a cute animation style, Animon Story is right for you. It’s more inspired by Digimon and Pokemon, but one thing that looks similar to Monster Hunter Stories is the importance of a relationship with you and your monster friend. Animon Story calls this the Bond of Friendship, and it is intrinsically tied to your monster friend’s evolution and abilities. Animon Story is also full of adorable art, with a strong anime-like aesthetic, and the creator has released a number of supplements for the game, including an additional character option and an anthology of adventures to play through with your friends.

Fatal Familiar, by MC Griffin.

Befriend or tame deadly powerful living thought forms called figments in an apocalyptic dream world. Stories of a human world blighted by a dream. Living thought forms called figments roam the world- some humans yearn to coexist and break down the divisions between themselves and the figments, others labor to control them, and the rest just try to get by without shit getting too weird.

Play in any setting or genre you'd like, or in the official Elseware setting! If your story involves befriending supernatural beings and gettin' in fights, it can work for this setting.

Fatal Familiar is decidedly separate in tone and genre from Monster Hunter Stories, with trainable companions that are creatures of the mind in a dream world, rather than physical creatures of many monster-collecting games. The story is also less kid-friendly, with the apocalypse much more present (or at least, that’s what I get from both the art and the game page). However, there’s still some pieces that seem to resonate - particularly the theme of some kind of blight spreading that needs to be stopped, and conflicting viewpoints about the nature of figments and whether people can life alongside them.

Because this game advertises itself as something that can be hacked, I’m curious about if you could re-write the setting to more accurately represent the world of Monster Hunter Stories instead.

Set in a post-capitalism world where monsters bio-engineered to extract resources have destroyed much of the world, you must hunt these creatures to sustain your village, one of the few settlements in the Pacific Northwest to have survived. You'll also harvest tags that you can slot into your weapons and garb to power up your scavenger.

One thing that sets the Monster Hunter series apart from games like Pokemon and Digimon is the inventory system, and the way the game uses the pieces of monsters you defeat to upgrade your personal gear. Monster Guts is directly inspired by the Monster Hunter franchise, and is incredibly focused on using the spoils of combat to upgrade your personal gear. The game also has a section called Companion, which I am assuming is a creature companion of some sort who can aide you as you hunt.

I'm going to rotate a glorified commercial for a long time. Especially this-

I said this in tags somewhere (I reblogged every gifset of this PV so I forget which one). But the most traumatic moments for Mimi, TK, and Kari are Digimon deaths from the show's run (ie - not backstory stuff). This shows not only their innocence before the Digital World, but their compassion. Their love for even those who- by their own admission- are (digital) monsters.

This is interesting because my Taichi Yagami Week meta was all about analyzing the role each character played in the team. These three are the emotional center, compared to more active roles like Tai's leadership, Sora's voice of reason, or Izzy's tech skill. It's reflected back here, in a way, which is cool timing.

I've always been a "Every Sonic media is partially canon" person, but I've been brainstorming how I'd have Sally be reintroduced in the main game canon (She does have a cameo in the Forces mini comic but let's say that isn't a thing for the sake of this design, personally I already think she exists, but this is more for the design challenge!)

Kinda inspired by Sora (Digimon Adventure), I feel that's how I'd kinda interpret her being on this iteration. Has complex feelings on who she is and what she wants to be.

I loved how she looked with goggles on before the reboot, it's something I feel matches her vibes also I love goggles

Her eyelashes are longer at the top, shorter at the bottom, this is something that is semi consistent on some of her last appearances, which I really like so

Her eyeshape is different from the rest of the cast, or that's the plan, by making the shape of it go to the back, but only so slightly compared to Blaze or maybe Rouge

Her hair is still hair. Just like her last official design it's the chipmunk stripe! Originally I was going to play around with it and have it be different, but I kinda really like it sooo

No idea yet if she's still a princess with this design, either works, but I feel her being one would make her leadership role and complex feelings on her goals more interesting tbh

Her team is located probably far away from where the main action is going on, maybe they live in the human side of society, not sure yet!

So, yeah, those are my thoughts atm :)
