@everyone I am crying as I am writing this, but I am sadly reporting that Jason Damron, better known as the Fallout New Vegas Storyteller has passed away. After struggling throughout this year with his health, he was diagnosed on August 17th of stage four adrenal cancer that spread to his liver quickly.

The Storyteller is one of the most iconic and well known content creators known for his work with the Shoddycast's Fallout New Vegas tales. He had a masterful delivery, and his manner of presenting Fallout lore had a style so distinctly his own. I first stumbled on him years and years ago and not only did I love his work, but he helped inspire me in so many ways years later.

I am…all the more crushed because he was coming back to be part of Fallout Day with something special he was going to do with Austin. We were planning what they would do and how we would bring back the Storyteller just one day before he passed away and I'm just reeling at the moment. This event was meant to be a homecoming for everyone, everyone who helped make this community what it is. That includes all who came before and I wanted so badly for people to see him again for one more story.

I'm not about to let him be forgotten and want to include something special in remembrance of him in our October 23rd Fallout Day broadcast.

In the loudest possible voice: fuck cancer.

Discord Call-out

Hey besties me and Mack @mackerel-cheese have made a server (18+) to chat all things fic, writing, marauders, or just generally whatever people want, within reason.

The primary goal was to have a place where people can do digital parallel play. For example, you could stream your screen as you work, so others can drop in and say hi and see what you’re up to, and maybe share their creative project in turn. Feel free to turn your mic off if you don’t feel like chatting.

It’s a bit of an odd idea, but I like having people in the same space while I work on stuff, and this is a low-pressure digital way of doing that.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that on tumblr fandom used to be practiced very differently. now everyone fucks off to their discords or tumblr groups to discuss everything with a select few, making tags be nearly only used for posting some finished fanworks or not at all

a decade ago people didn't have tumblr groups. people didn't even have dms. if you wanted to talk to anyone about anything you had to make a post, or send an ask (which more often than not would get published and thereby become a post in the end too)

so next time you think "I have a fandom thought but I have to find a small group of hyperspecifically like-minded people to share it with in private" remember all the freaks you could be missing out on meeting by keeping the tags dead. use tags, make friends. fuck discord.
