(La scena si apre sul Paradiso Terrestre. Ci sono piante lussureggianti, cascatelle d’acqua, ninfee, leoni, elefanti, caimani e zanzare. Sulla scena, in piedi, vicini l’una all’altro, Eva e Adamo.)

EVA: Adamo, hai portato fuori il cane? ADAMO (la guarda interrogativo): Cane, quale cane? EVA (comincia ad irritarsi): Il nostro cane! ADAMO (didascalico): Ma noi non abbiamo un cane! EVA (irritata): Tutti hanno un cane! ADAMO (come sopra): Ma se qui ci siamo solo tu ed io! EVA (come sopra): Ecco, sempre pronto a contraddirmi. Vuoi che litighiamo di nuovo? ADAMO (conciliante): Ma no, cara, non è per contraddirti, ma qui non c’è nessun cane. EVA (come sopra): Oh, ma va’ al diavolo! SERPENTE (scende serpeggiando giù dall'albero): Mi ha chiamato? EVA: Fila via, tu: entri solo al prossimo atto! SERPENTE: Ah, scusate (serpeggia sull'albero, mogio, mogio) EVA (ad Adamo): Hai visto? Hai messo scompiglio nel Giardino. Quello ha pure fatto l’entrata sbagliata, ora lo senti il Regista! DIO (svegliandosi): Eh? ADAMO: Cosa? EVA: Che dice? DIO: Meditavo e mi è parso di sentire invocare il mio nome ADAMO ed EVA (all’unisono): No, no. Continui pure a meditare. EVA (ad Adamo): Senti… ADAMO: Cosa c’è? EVA: Ma… e il cane? ADAMO: Ancora il cane? Quando ti metti in testa una cosa…. Sei proprio cocciuta: non abbiamo cani qui! EVA: Io lo voglio ADAMO (sconsolato): Già EVA (fa una bizza): Lo voglio, lo voglio, lo voglio! ADAMO (fa spallucce): Non ci posso fare niente, è colpa del Regista. DIO (si sveglia di nuovo): Eh? Che c’è? Mi si nomina ancora invano laggiù? EVA (sommessamente): No, è per il cane… DIO (che sa tutto): Quale cane? Non ci sono cani costì. ADAMO (gongolando, rivolto a Eva): Ecco, vedi, che ti dicevo! EVA (a bassa voce, rivolta ad Adamo): Sta invecchiando, allora: si è dimenticato di crearlo… DIO (che sente tutto): Mi sono dimenticato? EVA (umile): Ehm … sembrerebbe… DIO: Mah, ho perso la lista delle cose da fare, può darsi…. Non sono più attento come un tempo. (Rivolto a se stesso) Forse ho fatto male a crearlo, il Tempo, ma qui devo fare sempre tutto da solo, e qualche volta… ADAMO ed EVA (si guardano, scuotendo la testa, senza parlare) DIO (tuonando): Eccovi il cane! CANE (compare tra Adamo ed Eva, fa qualche passo, si avvicina all’Albero del Bene e del Male e fa pipì) SERPENTE: Attento, mi hai schizzato tutto! CANE: (sorride, compiaciuto)*. EVA: Adamo, questo cane non mi piace. ADAMO (rivolgendo lo sguardo in alto): Oh Santo Cielo! DIO, SERAFINI, CHERUBINI, TRONI, DOMINAZIONI, VIRTÙ, POTENZE, PRINCIPATI, ARCANGELI e ANGELI (in coro): Eh? Che c’è? ADAMO (fa un passo avanti sul proscenio): Qui non ne usciamo più. Vogliamo chiudere il sipario e passare al secondo atto?

(Cala il sipario)
