Apparently, some companies now are labeling mass-produced crochet items with "machine crocheted" to justify selling an entire granny square vest for 14 bucks.

1. Machines cannot crochet.

2. Knitting machines, to my knowledge, cannot make granny squares.

3. Even if there was a machine that could crochet, 14 bucks for an entire fucking vest is still too low to be paying people a livable wage basically anywhere in the world.

4. It takes me, a very fast crocheter, about twenty minutes to make one granny square in a single color with five rows. Multi-color granny squares take more time. I'll say 30 minutes. Next time you see a granny square anything in a big box store, count one row of squares and multiply by 20 (for single color squares) or 30 (multicolor squares). Then consider that it's skilled labor which should have an hourly wage you can live on. Then look at the price tag. This is Victorian piece work poor shit going on.

I really hope people haven't forgotten that Grace is actually pretty smart and helpful during class trials. Like this woman spent half the time brain dead from getting zapped (a third time) and then woke up to drive the trial forward along with Wolfgang and Damon. She was the one who guided us to the answer of how Cara was killed through the bucket mechanism, and was even the reason we realised there was a mechanism used for the murder at all. She's very much capable of coming up with logical deductions on the spot and actually be correct, as well as remain relatively calm and composed while doing so.

When she immediately latches on to the first person with even a crumb of a chance to be the killer, when she disrupts the investigation by unintentionally hiding potential clues, when she immediately resorts to hostility over being suspected herself and allows that grudge to cloud her judgement later-- that's not her at her A-Game, nor is that her just being stupid. That's her reasoning being shaken by grief. Her erratic behaviour during Chapter 1's trial contradicts her behaviour during Chapter 0's trial, and that's because this time the victim isn't a lifeless doll based on a person she's never met and has no connection to; the victim this time is the man she's grown the closest to, the first person in our group she met and someone she allowed herself to be vulnerable with in a way she wouldn't be with anyone else. The one to give her hope in her moment of paralysis induced by her near death experience and the only one to actually reach out to her in a way she'd actually reach back. The person she thought was vulnerable, unable to leave his bed, and who she had to find dead after walking out the door and leaving him behind despite it all. She's not stupid or incapable of making rational deductions, nor is she bad at making sound arguments or reasonable accusations-- she's literally just guilt-ridden and grieving.

Last Song: 'The Rain' by Little Quirks. They're a band I only discovered somewhat recently but they're from the same region of NSW I grew up in, so that's pretty sweet. This song in particular is one of my favourites of theirs.

Favourite Colour: Purple equally tied with blue. I can never decide which I prefer more, I'm a very big fan of both. 💜💙

Last Book: I've almost finished reading 'The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida' by Shehan Karunatilaka, and I'm also in the middle of listening to the audiobook for 'The Haunting of Hill House' by Shirley Jackson.

Last Movie: I watched 'The Thing' (1982) last weekend. It's been on my to-watch list for yonks (because wintery horror is right up my alley) so it was nice to finally get around to watching it.

Last TV Show: 'The Outlaws' (BBC), which was a fucking amazing show. Not only was it as funny as it was thrilling, it had not one but two separate platonic male/female friendships! Big fan of those, me, and of character growth, which there was aplenty. The simplest way I can describe the show's plot is 'found family do crime, fail upwards in exceedingly elaborate and impressive ways, and grow as people together'. I highly recommend.

Sweet/spicy/savoury: Sweet tooth all the way baby.

Last thing I googled: Was 'faerie research references' to help with the fic I'm currently writing, which you'll hopefully be seeing very soon ;). 

Current Obsessions: Gravity Falls, and Dungeons & Dragons (but in a 'living vicariously through actual plays' kind of way because I can't play in person with any of my friends; curse the distance that separates us!😭).

Looking Forward to: Flying up to Sydney early next year, not just to see my beloved friends but also to go to a friend's wedding (🥳🥳🥳), the DnD Twenty-Sided Tavern show at the Sydney Opera House (which is also my first time going inside the Opera House! huzzah!), and perhaps even the Hadestown musical too. I'm very excited!! :D

desperately trying to find a video essay(???) documentary about exploitation films, specificially sexploitation, that I watched at some point and now cannot figure out WHERE or how I ever found it in this dire internet. I remember clips from interviews with one of the actresses who went on to become a director, and her talking about people who insisted she was complicit in her own oppression, etc. but she was mostly trying to make some money. It wasn't soley about her, but also the general history of exploitation films, and I remember it went up to the 70s with an exploitation film including footage of mastectomies for trans people. Does anyone have any idea what this might have been?

This is literally just me with Fizz this whole episode and overall. Except I'm not abusing him for profit and never will. Fuck you, Mammon. You're lucky you look like a cuddly Christmas tree.

Overall, I really love what this episode did. Delving into celebrity culture and it's toxic enforcement of perfection on the individuals involved. The entitled fans who become parasocially attached and get it into their heads they own their idols. I really felt for Fizz this episode and it made me love him so much more for many reasons. The entire time I was audibly telling this sweetie that he's more than enough and sacrificing his well being isn't worth it. God, his panic attacks were so real. I've had that shit of overthinking my impressions on people and going into a frenzy. And it's not fun. I figured there'd be plots like this with Fizz and I wasn't disappointed.

I just wish we had more with his relationship with Mammon so that this last song felt even more rewarding. As always, I feel the show is held back by how much it focuses on Stolitz and not other threads and characters. But again, this episode was still fucking phenomenal.

Fizzarolli is at the top of my list of favorites, even more officially now. Sorry, Stolas. Sit the fuck down. These last two episodes have done his character MASSIVE favors! And I can't wait for more Fizzarolli content. I need that shit like I need air.

I seriously hope Fizz doesn't completely abandon the jester aesthetic. Love that detachment from stardom for him- but, ah! I love the jester theme for him too much! Fingers crossed. Also, Fizz is such a fucking theater kid. Lmao.

I think It's about the retelling's problem. I'm not against retellings, of course, i support creativity and i love many of them... But i don't like when they villainize the gods (specially males)

Yes the myths first were spread from one mouth to another. Yes there are many versions of the same myths in some cases.

BUT

They didn't change the core of the culture and heritage. My ancestors didn't drastically change the key elements of a deity's persona or what they represent. Even the changes they made are very minor because the main focus was to make stories to make sense of phenomenal things such as rain, ocean, nature, change of seasons etc.

Also Greek culture evolved as well. Minoan civilization is nothing in comparison to Classic era for example, as well as the laws, ethics and traditions (in each city state as well).

But one thing remained entirely on the myths... They are always about the Hellenic culture. Ethnicity is the key element here.

Again i am not against retellings but there's a reason why they fail and what's appropriate when authors write about a culture's myths.

So as the sign says "adapt to new circumstances and cultures"? It doesn't make sense to apply that especially about myths who were based on an ancient civilization.

Unfortunately just discovered a bird slaughtering facility in my neighborhood.

I was on a walk and, as a person who loves birds, was excited to hear bird sounds very close. It sounded vaguely gull-ish, so I looked up, but within a split second realized with horror that three feet in front of me on the sidewalk sat about ten crates cruelly overstuffed with live birds. Turkeys, chickens, and ducks. They couldn't move in the crates.

The turkeys had no room for any position other than laying. The crate squashing them down and together, it was the turkeys I heard, as they reacted to someone approaching. Black eyes of young turkeys, wondering what was next for them. Think of them, please, when you see their carcasses labeled with kind words in a grocery store this Thanksgiving season. Nothing kind happens to them. At no point in their life do they get to have quality time with any friends or family. It's the cruelest marketing there is.

Their crate was stacked atop two more crates stuffed with chickens. As small as the chickens were in comparison to the turkeys, there were so many packed in together that they could not turn around, and the crate was so shallow that their leg joint could only reach a maximum angle of 30 degrees. They were restless, and they were the majority. The other three stacks of crates were almost all chickens, the one exception being a crate of ducks.

The ducks were the liveliest. They seemed angriest, their crate second from the top of the stack, sandwiched between two crates of chickens. The ducks' long necks were forced into a dipped position. They communicated and tried their best to find egress. They don't want to be here, and they have never had a say in what happens to them. They want water and grass and there's only plastic and concrete and their own excrement.

A chicken in a crate in the middle of the stack relieves themselves, the excrement splashing forcefully onto the chickens in crates beside and below.

None of these birds can move. They have no options. There is no room, they are in literal cages. I don't know when they were delivered to the door of the slaughterhouse, and I don't know how much longer they will have to suffer there, smashed and aching and covered in shit. Impossibly confused about their situation.

I honestly hope, for their sakes, that they're dead by now. For their sakes and for my own peace, I hope they're dead, and I hope you think about them.

I fucking hate Netflix. Every time I get invested in a really good show, often made by small studios; I Google to see if there's further series planned , ya know , to actually un hang that cliffhanger.. and every fucking time it's always the same.. Netflix didn't make enough money from the first season and/or get enough views to warrant it so they just fucking axe it.

I fucking hate that media is seen only for it's bottom line to generate profit and not for it's creative abilities. Even the studios behind the IP's want to do more but fucking can't because the industry balances in the jaws of the streaming conglomerates and everything else good gets swallowed up never to be seen again
