i think that hu is abelist/her behaviour is abelist (unintentionally of course)

i want to paraphrase this by saying that im autistic and have personal experience with casual ableism + ableism that very clearly wasn't intentional but still harmful.

the thing about hu is that she wants to be important and she wants to be a part of people's lives. she doesn't want to be someone you say hello to and never see again, she wants to insert herself into the lives of people she cares about which isn't necessarily wrong but i think that her relationship with nico is where it shows how misguided it can get.

in my opinion, i think nico is autistic and i think that hu sees these autistic traits as innocence rather than for what it actually is. there have been countless times where nico has shown that they aren't stupid and that they don't need to be coddled and even if they hadn't i still don't think it's right to treat someone like they simply don't understand what they're doing.

i think that's the problem with their relationship, hu treats nico like they don't know what they're doing or saying or talking about and tries to save face for things that nico is deliberately doing and/or saying. that's kind of the point, hu doesn't treat anyone else in the cast like that, she's protective, yes, but she isn't overbearing. she talks to the rest of the cast like they're her friends even during the moments when she's defending them.

it comes down to the fact that she acts like nicos mother rather than their friend (which is what she should be doing btw 💀 during the nico-ace situation what they needed was a friend, as i said, they don't need to be coddled and treated like a child.)

anyways, i don't think people who aren't autistic should be saying she isn't abelist 😭 I'm always up for hearing the opinions of other autistic people because maybe my view of things is skewed. but i do think that abelism isn't just like, blatantly calling someone the r slur, it can be (and is in this case) acting like we're stupid and like we don't understand basic things, defending us as though we don't have the mental capacity to do it ourselves.

i also don't think hu is doing it intentionally (i cannot stress this enough!!!) she is trying to help, she isn't being dehumanising on purpose and i think twisting it into something it's not is such a deterrent to her character. she's a good person but as i said, i just think she's misguided when it comes to this specifically.

Ok so uh just to clear up my tags from yesterday bc i overthink everything & don't want ppl to get the wrong idea fjhdhg; when i say "liking/hating things the wrong way" i mostly mean having bigoted reasons for opinions or being a dick about them or being weirdly performative with/invested in fictional activism (and those same ppl tend to be the ones who make dragon age opinions a morality race smh).

And overall of course everyone is entitled to simply Not Like a character! And there is lots of valid criticism that i might even agree with! But i am also entitled to blocking ppl who are being overly negative about them; not because you're not allowed to do that or because you're wrong, but bc i like to curate my fandom experience and not going insane bc of constant discourse. Highly recommend doing that btw; blacklists are there for a reason and your mental health is important✌

wanted to say this with Bubba because I continuously see people say this but....... don't refer to Bubba as a 'child trapped in an adult's body'. Bubba is a full grown adult with mental/learning disabilities, he's not a child. He is a full grown adult with disabilities that did not grow up in a household that bothered to assist him or help him, hence why he can not talk and struggles with emotional fluctuations (extreme emotions are overwhelming and he will end up hitting himself or exploding in some capacity) but he's not a child. He's an adult that literally tends to his house. He cooks, he cleans, and he exists perfectly fine. Bubba can use a stove, he makes home-made food a lot. He knows how to use power tools without hurting himself/people he's not trying to! He tends to the chickens and what ever animals the family may have! Plus, technically, in the first movie Nubbins mentions that Bubba even once had a job at the nearby slaughterhouse because at that point in time Bubba was his only brother. Sure he could've been lying and now it's retconned to probably have been Drayton, but when that line was written and if it's taken literal, Bubba did have a job at some point. Bubba has emotion dysregulation, intense fear, and is slower to understand concepts but he's not a child. And mind you, Gunnar Hanson fully did speak/observe adult people with mental/learning disabilities to help make Leatherface and was told that despite the context, he didn't do a terrible job translating it. Bubba has disabilities, that doesn't make him a child. Thank u

it is admittedly kind of funny that everyone associates me with pk when he's not even my favorite character. i just talk about him a lot because he's a uniquely complex and terrible person, and this fandom constantly posts braindead takes on his awfulness, which irritates the fuck out of my autistic ass. the only trait of his that actually stands out to me would be that hes the bug version of a draconic entity and even then he sucked ass at it. my fanfictions are all specifically dedicated to beating the shit out of him both emotionally and physically, then forcing him to clean up his act so that his children stop suffering. he is a piece of roadkill that i hit with my car and then tossed in the back to dissect later because it was a uniquely ugly-looking specimen. i want to stick him with a cattle prod and see how he jumps

When you have a story idea that you really like but its premise has a problematic point that has, like, implications that are cruel and unfair to its target audience, and like this could easily be fixed by just changing one detail about the main character that wouldn't even affect the plot much like it could be done so easily BUT that one detail is really important to you because the MC is based entirely on personal experience and the horror iw based around some of your own childhood fears pertaining to the setting, so taking away this element of the character would make you not love the idea anymore and not want to write it BUT how fucking arrogant can you be to think it's more important that you get to creatively express yourself than it is to not hurt a child who reads it what kind of argument is that? if you don't want to write it without the implications then how about you just don't write it not like you finish anything anyways EXCEPT -hurt who???- motherfucker no one is going to read this no one is ever going to read this you think this is going to demoralize some hospitalized kid with cancer how would it it's not like it's going to be published no one reads your original work and no one cares but you so you might as well write it the way it means most to you AND LASTLY well if no one is ever going to read it why would I bother writing it
