My Experience at SPNNC 2023 Con

Hello, my name is Ellie. If you're not already familiar with my blog, I write a lot about things like my divination with tarot and a pendulum, the show Supernatural and the former cast, deities, various experiences of my own, dreams, etc. I went to the SPNNC 2023 aka CE Charcon 2023 as some here on Tumblr call it. I still don't know what the deal with the spatulas is at this con, I guess I wasn't one of the cool kids who was in the know about this "trend" per the usual ha ha.

Friday, Aug 18- Didn't go

Saturday, Aug 19

I arrived around 10:15am because I thought the line to register would be long and that it'd take ages to park. Nope, it took a couple minutes for me to find parking and the line to register empty. Someone told me however that on Saturday the line was over an hour long Friday. I guess that what they mean by priority registration for Thursday and Friday is that only people with weekend packages could register for the first hour and a half or so of registration on those 2 days, so they don't wait in line as long. I guess my not being able to make it on Friday was for good reason ha ha. In-between panels and photo-ops I went exploring the hotel, talked to some other people at the con, looked at the vendors tables, sometimes observed the actors and actresses interacting with each other or other fans.

11:30- Drake Rodger Photo-Op

I walked into this photo op and curiously my mind went quiet. For those who read my posts or know me personally, you know this NEVER happens. I almost always have many trains of thought happening at one time. A couple days before I went to this convention I was told by one of my guides Loki to buy a photo op ticket for Drake. I thought this was rather interesting but I decided okay let's do it. I saw Drake do the so called "Teletubby hole violation" when in line. I believe there were 3 people in line before me when I saw that. Pretty cooI stuff I got to see it in person, not gonna lie. I thought it was totally perfect ha ha. I'm afraid I didn't make the cut in that IG video as I didn't do a crazy pose. I will say however that as crazy as this might sound, I swear I thought he was going to pull me in closer but felt himself stop O.O When the photo was taken and therefore my photo op was done, he said "Thank you" in his soft spoken voice. Meg Donnelly his girlfriend was in the room and smiled at me as I walked off, which I thought was interesting to say the least. I walked out of this photo op a fan of his.

2:30- Cosplay Costume Contest

I chose to dress as Hela from Thor: Ragnarok the Norse Goddess of Death for my costume. The winners were chosen based on whoever got the loudest cheers when the host stood behind them. I can see why not that many people chose to participate in this contest. A lot of the contestants wore the Castiel trench coat (not photographed here). The winner was "Pudding Dean" who got $150 and a certificate. Donna and Gabriel were the runner ups. I believe they got $75 and $25 along with the certificates. The rest of us got a red Supernatural lanyard for participating. Even though I did not win this contest, I am glad I was able to go onstage and not get stage fright while being asked my name and who I'm dressing up as let alone panic standing in front of that crowd. It shows to me I've grown a lot over the years and am overcoming some anxiety issues I have at times. Also, the fact I got plenty of compliments on my costume and even someone wanting a selfie with me because they loved my outfit so much made it all worth it even more in my opinion. By the way, I totally think Hela should've been a Supernatural character and could've made a GREAT villain or an anti hero, just saying...

4:50- Rich Speight Jr Photo-Op

Okay, being dressed as Hela from Thor: Ragnarok and taking a photo with Loki from Supernatural was at this point a given. I was nudged to buy a ticket while at the convention at this point. Naturally, a Loki nudge which totally makes sense ha ha. The Jared photo ops were running 20 min or so behind naturally, so therefore this photo op was running behind too. I ended up waiting by an empty security desk to charge my phone while waiting for the photo op to come up. I talked to a couple people while waiting but also where I was happened to be by where Meg, Drake and Jojo's autograph tables were set up (couldn't really see Jojo so much as his table was across the hall and not in a good line of sight where I was).

I ended up watching them over the course of most of my waiting time. Drake seemed pleasant while waiting around for autographs and such talking to the person he was sitting with. Jojo at one point threw a pen at him and Drake had to get up to get it off the floor. Meg barely spoke to the person she was with. At one point she started to tap her pen while looking around and not talking. When someone came up to her to say something she had that "friendly" voice she uses on stage and talking to fans. Talk about an awkward silence mostly between her and the person she was sitting with. I felt bad for Jojo and Drake because they clearly were hoping for more autographs and getting bored sitting there. After seeing Meg behave the way she did and having a tense tone with the person she was sitting with for the short bit they did talk, I did not feel so bad for her.

As for Rich, he seems like a really cool guy. I told him "yes" at first when he asked me if I made my costume and said he loves it. I ended up saying I'm just kidding I bought it online but "I thought you'd be happy to see me". He said "I am very happy to see you", dunno if he caught this Thor: Ragnarok reference or not when Hela said "I thought you'd be happy to see me" before she defeated the Asgardian Army. I certainly walked out of my photo op with him a fan of his.

9:00- Concert (Or should I say more like 9:30)

Nothing much to discuss here. I was aware many people were speculating that Jensen would sing on this night. Something kept telling me however that he was not going to sing but couldn't explain it. Mark Sheppard did show up to play the drums for apparently the first time since 2010 when he last played drums onstage. This is curious because it was his higher self who set me up coming to this convention to begin with. When Mark showed up, something told me "Jensen is not showing up to this concert because people were criticizing his looks online like crazy". A friend of mine had some similar feelings while this concert was going on. Of course, people must've been mindblown he didn't show up with how many were expecting him to show up but didn't ha ha. The microphones were very loud here, I walked out a little after 11pm when the concert was done with a headache.

Before Gold Panel/Before I went back to Convention

The same friend of mine who had the same feelings I did about why Jensen didn't show up to the concert dreamwalked to the very same room Jensen and Jared were in. Virtually EVERYTHING they talked about when she dreamwalked (mind you, for the first time ever!) to them manifested in the Gold Panel. I didn't get to go to this panel because I only had the copper package. Jensen said things to Jared like [I'm only paraphrasing in this section mind you] "do people actually want to meet me or do they only care about my looks?", mentioned how upset he was people were making fun of his mustache this weekend, and Jared at one point said "no matter what people are saying about you, you're an awesome person. I want you to know that". Jared even made a strange remark about how "Gen asked me to babysit the kids a couple weeks ago". Around 10:20am before I left for the convention, I picked up my pendulum and said to Hermes "Is there any truth to this dream my friend had?" and he said "Yes, LOTS of it".

Turns out, in this particular panel someone asked them if they ever experienced bullying and their children (around the 6:05 mark). Around 14:10, Jensen also brought up how his daughter said "it's not babysitting" when Jensen is with his kids. "She's just mom and he's just dad". Hmmm, were Poseidon and Hermes telling them both the night before or so what kinds of things they will be asked during the panels? Very interesting dreamwalking experience, let alone the fact everything she heard ended up manifesting the next day at the Gold Panel (and that Hermes said there's lots of truth to her dream with me curiously asking him this 10 or so min before the panel was scheduled to start at 10:30).

Sun, Aug 20

I came back to the convention around 11:15 or so. I mostly hung around the vendors area and explored the hotel and talked to some people before I went to the Mark Sheppard panel.

1:15- Mark Sheppard Panel

Mark's panel was an absolute joy for me to be in the room for. He said things like "if you have a panic attack this is the safest place you can be", "who wants to be king of a country", and asking someone "is that the best you can do" when they started to ask him "if you could be any animal [what would it be and why]?" and cut them off saying "oh Jesus". It was 100% worth going to this convention to sit in this panel. Mark's authentic, sarcastic, and speaks his mind but also has a very caring heart despite having a tough love approach at times. I enjoyed his walking around the theater for his panel instead of sitting up there like others do. At one point he was walking through the row 3 rows in front of mine when he was looking at someone's Moose doll, which I thought was pretty cool. Very close!

J2 Main Panel

No, I didn't get to go to the Gold Panel because I only had a copper package. It's interesting because I felt my lie detector alarm go off many times when Jensen was speaking in this panel. It was hard to hear some of what was being said at times during this panel because I wasn't exactly front row and did tune out some here and there. Jensen I believe is trying very hard to keep up with a happy family life at home. His passive aggressive tone speaking about Danneel was very apparent at least to me. The car story? Jensen please hun, you should've just driven with her. I know you were aggravated about the car problems but that doesn't mean behave this way. It does show a very concerning mindset that Hermes spoke of that he's in right now. Those who are not seeing it at this point do not have their eyes or hearts open to receiving this information...

I found his answer about reading a book he'd like to revisit to be very off putting. I myself had reading struggles as a kid and essentially taught myself how to read when I was going to enter 5th grade (long story here). He did an absolutely terrible job talking about his dislike of reading here. Don't like to read? Fine but the way he used a book his wife reads a lot, come on! You never read 1 book in your life Jensen? Sheesh...Someone was kind enough to point out to me that when Jensen was speaking of the book Danneel reads that's by her when she sleeps, she says "HER bed" not "THE bed" around the 40:35 mark (put some earbuds or headphones in and you'll hear it). Jared was a great pleasure to be in the same room as. I feel that Jensen also would've been more pleasant if he was not on the downward spiral he seems to be very much on lately.

I've spoken a lot about Jensen and Jared and others in past posts regarding divination and deities and other topics. Poseidon and Hermes both used Jared and Jensen to speak through them. Just about everything that was said in this panel they have talked about many times to me recently. I expected many of the things that were discussed to be discussed, very few surprises. Heck, even the ridiculous questions that made it through weren't totally surprising on a divine blueprints level. Jensen very much needs guidance, as Hermes has told me plenty of times before and I could see it in his eyes.

Some of the things I knew about them I discussed with only a few via PM and even they were surprised at some of the things that came about in this panel vs what I told them. I will say this, I was not surprised by the house purchase Jensen made in CT based on things I do know, nor was I surprised at Jared talking about how as he gets older he is becoming less able to tolerate 100 plus degree weather for a month at a time. Him talking about liking the mountains, NC even and Asheville and such was interesting and mentioning Idaho (when Gen made a trip there with their kids no more than a couple weeks beforehand).

I went home after this panel was done. There was at one point a golden sticker on someone's chair behind another sticker and the prize was apparently a gold ticket to another con. Of course... the winner was in a gold seat NATURALLY. Quite annoying but I know enough about Creation Entertainment to know this was 100% to be expected. Would I go again? Absolutely. It was a joy being in the room for all these panels, meeting the actors and fans I did, and being able to say I actually went to one of these things.

Energetic Fields are the result of mystical and physical phenomena. The human body contains two predominant fields. The first and largest is produced by the human heart because of iron-rich hemoglobin being bumped through ventricles. The complexity of this field is due to the neurological processes that occur in the intracardiac nervous system, or the neurons in the heart; which are responsible for the majority of the heart’s functionality. The second field is produced by the brain. This field is the result of a conglomeration of millions of neurons firing, which individually release minute pulses of electro-magnetic radiation. These fields can be programmed and manipulated through energy work and states of gnosis for use in esoteric and magical practices.

The Astral Plane is infinite, and yet is inherently part of the reality that we occupy. Think of it as a three dimensional film that exists in the space between everything.

This place lays between our cognitive reality and the world of dreams. Which is why you can access both aspects of our dimension via the astral. The natural laws of physics are only partially apparent in this realm. Whereas in the dream world they break down completely- if desired.

In the Astral Plane, the Conscious mind holds all the power of manifestation. Whatever you create becomes a finite aspect of that reality; However, due to the expansive nature of this place it is unlikely to come across or find anyone else or their creations. The astral is desolate in appearance, this is due to its quasi reflection of our reality. Furthermore, this plane, even with thoroughly developed astral senses, has no light, darkness, air/wind, plants/biological-life, or most things we might expect when entering.

Spirits exist in all of three aspects of our dimension simultaneously. In cognitive reality, their forms are not corporeal, rather they are more vibe-like. In the Astral, their forms are more likely to appear tangible. If you come across a spirit in our cognitive reality and wish to see that spirit in a more corporeal form, astral travel to where they are and then enter the Astral Plane in that corresponding location.

Spirits and other entities do not typically show any tendencies towards social organization or community within the Astral Plane. They are commonly seen in isolation or, rather infrequently, with one or two other spirits. Gatherings of many spirits or the forming of townships of any kind never happens. Spirits aren’t always trustworthy and can be hostile and/or violent, both towards us and each other. Thus, we have Astral Weapons. Be sure you create Astral Weapons before exploring too deeply in the Astral Plane. You have to be able to protect your Well-Source. Otherwise you could easily bring something into your body when you return.

Dreamwalking chemical assistance (drugs, alcohol, herbal remedies, etc)

is a common practice in several different cultures and practices. The term comes from the aborigines, but the Mexica, Toltec, and Maya had their own term for it- which translates to mean Sun-kissed in English. The Cherokee also had Dreamwalkers- often, they were considered people with two spirits/souls and are considered with revenance, as they are often healers and medicine people. This practice is not one culturally protected, but is a matter of energetic anatomy.

Dreamwalking is similar to vivid dreaming. On the surface, it’s a practice of sharing a dream with one or more other people. Either entering their dreams or pulling them into your own while remaining completely lucid. Some people Dreamwalk without even much effort, and some have to try very hard and must practice for years before being able to do it. Some may only be able to do it unintentionally. Those who can dreamwalk generally have an easier time with Astral Projection, since one is essentially Astral Traveling when Dreamwalking. The main difference is that Dreamwalkers cross through the Astral Plane into the dream world. This act is not easily accomplished, but for Dreamwalkers an instinct. The other key difference is that when Dreamwalking, the walker’s astral form is non-corporeal unless the dream, and/or the walker, demands it. There is a downside to Dreamwalking, however; If you choose to dreamwalk rather than dream regularly, you will likely awaken feeling as though you didn’t sleep. You may be tired, unrested, irritable. You may even become more susceptible to illness over time if not practiced in moderation.

Dreamwalking is extremely difficult to start doing but, like most things, it becomes easier the more you succeed in doing it. The process of Dreamwalking starts out very similar to that of lucid dreaming.

Before you lie down to sleep, do a meditation on what your dream will be like. Create a sight or a sound of it in your mind. Be sure to choose something that is important to your core-being, something that you’re not likely to forget. The experience of the sight or sounds should be either something to do with your body or something that regularly occurs within your dreams. Then make that idea so powerful that it seeps into your dreaming mind. The idea of this practice is to create an alert to your dreaming mind that signals to itself that it is dreaming, thus causing a lucid dream. There are several ways one can lucid dream- do some research and find one that works for you. If you find one you like- feel free to reblog this and share it in your comment, link or otherwise. Once you can lucid dream, having conscious control over your own dream state, you’re ready to begin trying to move into another person’s dream. There are some social and ethical boundaries to doing so, and you may cross a few lines. Remain weary, you could learn some things about people that you would have never wanted to know.

Dreams take place in a realm that is just past the plane of the astral. There is a slight difference in resonance; though, because of this it is best to try to enter the dreams of someone who you know very well. I’d both recommend asking permission beforehand or not asking permission at all. Both have their benefits and risks. Not asking permission will help get a stronger sense of success. (I.E. having them tell you about their dream to see if they noticed you in their dreams. But they may also feel exposed or violated.) However, telling them may create a false negative when it comes to comparing dreams because of confirmation bias.

To enter another’s dream, you must first be lucid dreaming within your own, or Dreamwalking in the corporeal/astral planes. Then, create a finite barrier that separates this space from the expanse of the astral plane. Approach this barrier and slowly phase yourself through it.

Once in the astral realm, time is far more fluid so take your time. Once you’re ready, begin thinking of the person who’s dream you’d like to enter. Think of their aura, vibe, way of thinking, their favorite things; any and all things that help you create an exact idea of them. Then, imagine the setting that their dream would likely take place in. Try to phase yourself into that place. If the person can also lucid dream, this process would be much easier.

Dreamwalkers are also prone to possessing or easily obtaining certain psychic abilities. Those who are born with Dreamwalking instincts will likely possess more than half of these abilities and realize those before they realize they’re a Dreamwalker. Abilities that Dreamwalkers either have or can easily develop include:

• Clairvoyance

• Clairaudience

• Extreme empathy (Psychic)

• Possession (entering the minds of animals, or other people, even spirits.)

• Day-Dreamwalking (Dreamwalking while daydreaming)

• Telepathy

• Waking astral-travel (being able to astral travel without being in a relaxed state.)

• Divination prowess

• The sight (being able to see spirits and even communicate with them)

• Enhanced energy-work.

Further signs of a Natural Dreamwalker include:

• Existential dread experienced at a very young age (having thoughts of being unable to prove your own existence around the age of 3-5 years old)

• One or multiple extremely heightened psychic abilities.

• Persistent prophetic dreams

• Regularly occurring lucid dreams

• Accidental Dreamwalking.

• An affinity for multi-conscious astral projection (splitting your awareness into several independent bodies simultaneously)

• Powerful manifestation abilities

• Accidental possession.

• Being able to program your aura

Crossing Dimensions is not easy, even for natural born Dreamwalkers. It is also dangerous. When someone crosses into a different dimension, even with astral senses, they’re ability to perceive is severely hindered because the laws of physics are congruent but compounded within each new axis of space compared to what we are accustomed to.

Crossing dimensions is useful for bypassing wards, creating complex energetic structures, complete energetic healing of the subtle body, and time magic. It also requires a pretty thorough understanding of dense topological concepts- which require a decent understanding of mathematics and physics to learn.

Multi-Conscious Astral Projection is the act of creating and maintaining several astral forms simultaneously. This means that you will also perceive what they perceive simultaneously as well. I recommend taking a mild analgesic before trying it your first time. (It may cause a headache)

In order to do this, you have to allocate Well-Source energy into two pieces. Then imagine you’re looking in a mirror, while also perceiving what the reflection sees. With your primary form, step away from the mirror, turn one of your heads to perceive what is around you while the other perceives the observer.

The most difficult aspect of MCAP is sustaining it. Once you lose connection with an astral form’s awareness, the astral form breaks down and desentogrates. You have to maintain consistent perception from all of them for the entire duration.

I recommend practicing within our corporeal reality, rather than the Astral Plane ,as it's safer that way. It helps to have a unifying stimuli to anchor your perceptions on; like that of a consistent rhythm, whether that be musical or physical action. This process takes a lot of practice, but once you’ve solidified that process you’ll never forget it.

Energy-Work while astral projecting is an extremely useful skill. Especially if you’ve master MCAP. While astral projecting, its possible to construct complex energetic structures for a variety of purposes. From large wards to astral weapon and thoughtform creation. If MCAP is employed, then the number of bodies you have to perform a single construction is increased, like doing a group working but that group consists of only you.

Astral Weapons are energetic constructs that are designed to be resilient and dense. They can be used for many things from protection to fate work. To design an astral weapon or shield. Make sure the design is as simple as you can while still making it unique and your own. Sketch it out on paper in order to flesh out the design as much as possible. Its design needs to be ingrained into your memory intimately.

Visualize this weapon in your mind until it becomes vivid. Get to know the design in three dimensions. If you’re capable of visualizing it in other dimensions, do so.

Once the concept of the weapon is corporealized in your mind, begin constructing it through energy work, keeping in mind the properties that you want it to possess. Project the weapon into the Astral Plane and hold it, Interact with it, and swing it around. Give it weight, inertia, and substance.

Lastly, and this is optional, create a way to gradually summon them; rather than just having them appear outright. For example, my favorite weapon is a spear. I summon a needle that glows white and blue that expands into the shape of a spear. This way it is easier to maintain accurate perception of several Spears simultaneously. The more you can reduce and simplify the design, the easier it will be to project and maintain it.

Thoughtforms are prevalent in the Astral Plane as well as our cognitive reality because human beings are naturally quite imaginative. Sometimes they can be hostile, so the best defense against rogue thoughtforms is protective energetic warding.

If you don’t know what a ward is, you aren’t ready for Astral Travel. It is important to use more than one type of ward as well. The more types of wards you use, the more thoroughly protected you are. Just be sure that none of them cancel eachother out.

When creating thoughtforms in the astral plane, they’re not likely to enter into the corporeal plane unless guided to it. They can be incorporated into astral weapons as well as energetic constructs. Their uses are only limited by your ingenuity.

Odd thought, but I feel like the Aiel dreamwalkers never seem to mention the wolves? Or seeing men in tel'aran'rhiod? I get that wolfbrothers are very rare, but Elyas has been one for a while when we first encounter him and there is a heavy implication from Noam that they're 'coming alive' with the new age.

So there should be more of them running around. And now that the Aiel are no longer in the Three Fold Land, they should be encountering these men, right?

It makes me wonder if it's another point of 'men and women aren't talking and sharing information' in Wheel of Time that should go on the powerpoint.

Wanda floated through the half ruined house. Her gaze unblinking.

This close you could see it was not Wanda's blood trickling down the side of her face and it made you swallow hard as she slowly closed the distance between you. Her chest pushing against yours closer and closer until she tilts her head, and her lips meet yours.

Hello Anon, thank you for the ask. I suspect maybe in part why you chose to send in this ask to me specifically relates to my Tarot and pendulum divination work, since this is one of my blog's main topics and because I have answered multiple asks in recent weeks regarding J2 and their marriages. Although I do not have definitive proof of such, based on my divination work and also evidence suggesting my suspicions and what my guides tell me are all indeed correct, I believe that they are technically married on paper but I do not at all believe they are truly married (living together, sharing a bed, going on dates, etc.).

I have my doubts they have slept in the same bed much if at all in the last several years; this is based on not only my own divination work but also based on what I saw in their AD Tour from over 7 years ago. It was very much implied he's slept in the guest room a good bit whenever he comes home from traveling so late from Canada when he was filming spn. I also noticed a pretty "clean closet" on his side in their AD tour and him trying to say he cleaned it up (more like "I barely come in this closet and many of my clothes are stored in the guest room drawers").

I recall also strangely enough several dreams mostly between 2016 and 2018 but some before starting around 2014 that entailed a brunette man often laying or sitting up on a bed often times with a suitcase at the foot of the bed or beside where he was laying/sitting in day clothes not pajamas. I will tell you this, when I saw that AD Tour video on YouTube only earlier this year for the first time, I recognized the entire room (the bookshelving across the bed, the bedroom wall color, creepy baby doll, everything down to the T).

I believe something happened in 2018, or rather Jensen met someone. However, my guides including his higher selves tell me he has not met his soulmate and deep down is still searching for her. This is what they say is a big reason why he travels so much and keeps going to every convention. I also suspect based on the podcast Danneel did with the OTH cast years ago she made out with someone and made a remark saying something like "is it really cheating if..." and I believe talked about making out with someone who was not her husband. I can't recall when this podcast was made or when she was talking about but based on what others have said, this was after she and Jensen got together.

There's a lot more reasons as to why I do not believe they are truly married but are only so on paper but I do not wish to make this answer into a novel ha ha. Thank you for the ask, have an awesome day!

Have you watched Dr. Strange 2? The term ‘dreamwalker’ and astral planes was thrown around and had my TBS senses going off! Was there any lore/mythology you drew on for Paige’s dream walking that you can tell us about?

No, I'm afraid I'm not much of a Marvel person – Alwyn Hamilton persuaded me to watch Thor: Ragnarok, which I thought was good fun, but I'm not generally into superheroes. A friend messaged me about that as soon as he saw the film, though!

Dreamwalking was primarily inspired by the broad concepts of astral projection, out-of-body experiences, and lucid dreaming. The term ‘silver cord’ originates from Ecclesiastes:

'Remember him – before the silver cord is severed, and the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, and the wheel broken at the well, and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.'

Dream Walking and why the MCU meaning is slightly headache inducing

      To explain Dream Walking you need to understand certain Pagan and  Indigenous Australian beliefs.   

Let’s start with the Aboriginal Australians where the term has its roots most heavily.  The ancient peoples of Australia believed that when you dream your soul enters another place, a place where all souls (or conscious minds) go when they sleep.  This is a dimension (as we’d call it now) known as the Dream-Time (also spelt as Dreamtime) though today it is most commonly called The Dreaming.  If you are a Sandman fan you might recognize that term.  Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman calls it The Dreaming and Marvel comics calls it The Dream Dimension but it’s pretty much the same place.  It’s the place your soul goes when you sleep. As we have The Waking World, so is there The Dreaming. 

The Dreaming is supposed to be vast and difficult to define because its meaning and purpose can be very personal or different from culture to culture, particularly in the preverbal landscape of of the Indigenous Australian peoples.

This is a spiritual belief but theoretical physics have debated on if there is a collective unconscious and if it should be considered another dimension.  There have been studies and theories done exploring this idea and debating on if dreams and dreaming should be considered another dimension since we do spend about a third of our lives dreaming even if we don’t always remember it. 

 At the start of the Covid 19 Pandemic there was an unprecedented spike in people claiming to have had shared dreams where they have interacted with people in the dream and both (or multiple) parties claim to remember the interaction.      

To Dream Walk or Dreamwalk (not to be confused with the spell in World of Warcraft) we must first consider Lucid Dreaming.  Contrary to popular misconceptions, Lucid Dreaming is not merely being aware that you are in a  dream. Sometimes you don’t even perceive that the place you are is a dream.  What matters is you are in control of your own actions or better yet, in control of the environment around you and how it works.  You could turn the sky orange or levitate yourself or make conscious choices within the dream.  To Dream Walk one must first Lucid Dream.  

Lucid Dreaming is not merely a spiritual belief, this one is a cognitive reality. Those who are particularly good at Lucid Dreaming almost never have nightmares but still manage vivid and recollected dreams.

Dream Walking, in theory, is the act of traversing The Dreaming and finding your way into the dreams of others while Lucid Dreaming.  Hypothetically if the collective unconscious is a plane of existence that our minds “tap into” when sleeping, then all of us have an innate psychic link with one and other.  To be able to consciously enter the dreams of others is to be a Dream Walker.  Considering Rose Walker’s abilities as a “Dream vortex” in The Sandman: The Doll’s House by Neil Gaiman, her name might have deliberately been “Walker” for this very reason as she could very much enter and manipulate the dreams of others. 

The notion that when we dream we enter another world isn’t purely found in Australia.  Homer once described the realm of dreams as having two gates, one made of horn, and one made of ivory. The ivory gates are where false dreams are found. The gates of horn admit the truth, whether literally or metaphorically. These gates are also used in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.

The Ancient Greeks believed that our dreams are ruled over by the Oneiroi, the living embodiment of dreams. They were said to have black wings.  The Ancient Romans named three of these.  Phobetor (meaning Terrifier), also known as Icalus, Phantasmos (meaning fantasy), and Morpheus (Shaper of forms).  Though there were supposed to be thousands of Oneiroi (Dreams) only these three Dreams have names that are remembered and they roughly mean Phobetor specialized in making nightmares. Pantasmos specialized in fantasy dreams while Morpheus (who, today seems to be the most remembered among them created dreams that were either literally or metaphorically true. As these are the most common type of dreams people remember, it’s Morpheus, himself, who is most heavily regarded by the cultural consciousness.  Though each of these entities is called an Oneiros (a Dream) they are actually anthropomorphic personifications of Dreams and by extension dream creators.  This is why Neil Gaiman has his Sandman answer to both Morpheus and Dream. 

In Hans Christian Anderson’s Ole Lukøje (The Sandman) he openly says that The Sandman is also the Roman God of Dreams (who Hans Christian Anderson would have known as Morpheus).  Though The Sandman in Hans Christian Andersen’s story is Morpheus, he is given the trait of resembling Death.  Death (Mors) is the brother of Somnus (Sleep) who in some myths is the father of Morpheus, however it is understandable that Hans Christian Anderson merged the lord of dreams and his father, the Lord of Sleep, into the same being.  It also symbolically makes sense that Death and Sleep resemble each other.  Neil Gaiman borrowed from this for his Sandman where Morpheus also known as Dream also resembles his older sister, Death.        

Nineteenth century English Children’s literature used the term “The Land of Nod” to mean the place you go when you dream. This concept was used for Little Nemo in Slumberland (1905).  Also later called “In the land of Wonderful Dreams.”  The title is briefly referenced in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman: The Doll’s House. Neil Gaiman also used The Land of Nod as a bit of a pun. After Cain murdered Abel it is said that he went to The Land of Nod so Neil used this to indicate that Can went to the land of The Dreaming.  It makes sense on a symbolic level. Cain, and characters like him from other myths around the world, are engrained forever in the cultural collective unconscious and so yes, he lives in The Dreaming.

Dream Walking, spiritually speaking, is not just supposed to be the ability to enter other dreams while you, yourself, are asleep.  Sometimes it’s a spiritual journey not unlike a vision quest.  Sometimes it’s a method of learning a personal lesson and growth.  It is something sacred.  Though the concept of The Dreaming can be found all over the world, dream walking, is still considered a highly spiritual and personal practice.  I am not saying it is wrong or offensive that the MCU should use the concept in their films, however, I do think they should have been more respectful to what Dream Walking entails and means.  If Neil Gaiman can respect the Ancient Australian, Greco-Roman, Judeo-Christian, and folkloric beliefs he compiled to create his Sandman (Also known as Dream or Morpheus) and world he rules then why couldn’t the MCU have had the same respect?     

The irony is Marvel’s original comics were somewhat more respectful to these old beliefs when they had Nightmare (roughly the same character as Neil Gaiman’s Dream AKA Morpheus only more heavily based on Roman mythology’s Phobetor) ruling over The Dream Dimension (Marvel’s version of The Dreaming).  But instead they seem to use this post-modern and somewhat disrespectful “shifter” fad belief to suggest that we enter alternate universes when we dream instead of a realm created from the collective unconscious.  

Much like with how they handled time travel, the MCU has yet again misrepresented theoretical physics, but this time they did so while combining and dimming down a real spiritual belief. 

Honestly, I was disappointed.  I was hoping we would see Marvel’s Nightmare in Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness but instead the current lore kind of undermines his very existence and the real world beliefs and mythology that were the basis of the character’s conception.
