dumb buddie headcanon, their first date goes horribly wrong in every conceivable way

Its only technically their first date in the sense that they were both fully aware that it was a date and one party had asked the other explicitly to go on said date (according to Chim and Maddie and Hen and May and... okay, pretty much everyone, they had already been dating for ages anyway).

But their "first date", as it will be called, was ruined first by a rogue crocodile, then gas leak, a car bomb on the 605, and now, an 11-year old with the flu.

"Maybe dating just isn't for us," Buck said as they pulled up to Dillon Tucker's house to pick up Christopher. He quickly glanced over to make sure that Eddie didn't take this to mean they shouldn't date.

“Eh, maybe the fancy restaurants just aren’t our speed. Hey kiddo,” Eddie greeted as Christopher climbed into the back of the truck. “You still feeling okay?”

“Yeah, but Dillon puked everywhere. It was so gross!” Chris explained animatedly.

“We could go back to the carnival,” Buck suggested. They had gone last weekend, and the weekend before, and three weekends before that. “Eat popcorn and candy until we throw up, too.”

“Yeah!”

Buck looked to Eddie. “What do you think, Dad?”

“I think this is more our speed,” Eddie said, resting his head on Buck’s shoulder as they watched Christopher try his hand at winning a giant dinosaur plushie.

- Either the cutest or dumbest dates ever

- Would take you on nice dates every so often because he feels like it’s really important even if you don’t really care that much

- Otherwise just likes to cuddle in bed and watch movies or YouTube together

- Getting a bunch of random snacks and staying the night over to have a movie marathon

- Him trying, emphasis on trying, to cook for you before you come over because he wants to surprise you

- Ends up burning the food but orders your favorite takeout instead

- Walking around Brighton together (or wherever you’re from)

- Secretly getting you small gift when you’re wondering around a store

- Little beach picnic dates

- Maybe picnics in the forest, shy cuddles under the trees while you’re both laying on a big blanket

The Diamond Brothers 💎

The infamous Diamond brothers, gotta love them.

(mentions of animal passing, a little angsty)

There's a four year age gap between them, which would make Daiya 22 when Mondo was 18. Daiya was only 4 when Mondo was born.

Their living situation isn't implied to be the best - no mention of their father and little talk of their mother.

But onto the general and wholesome headcanons!

Their dynamic is typical sibling behavior- teasing, bullying, yelling, and then acting as if nothing happened and being best buds again.

Before Mondo got big, Daiya would usually rough-house with him, eventually trapping him in a headlock or dangling him by his feet. Now that he's big, Daiya hasn't rough-housed with him in a hot minute - he's a bit intimidated of Mondo's larger structure compared to his.

Before high school, they would both typically play a variety of video games around their city - mostly around arcades. Their favorites were shooters, old-school side scrollers, and DDR. They aren't good by any means, but they still have fun.

Daiya has the highest score between the two of them on "POSSESSION" by Tag Underground (correct me if I'm wrong)

Daiya is a casual theater nerd whilst Mondo is the Theater Kid™. Daiya was the one who got him into that sort of thing once he showed him Grease. It just evolved from there, prompting relentless teasing from Daiya.

They're both really good singers - nothing professional of course, but they're nice to listen to. While Mondo has a smooth, deep voice, Daiya's voice is similar to Leorio Paladiknight from HxH. Idk it just seems fitting. Puberty kicked them in the gut.

They like going to small restaurants around town - the smaller the better. They once found a hidden sushi place and had the best meal they've had in ages.

Speaking of food - Daiya is the designated chef between the two of them. Mondo tried cooking once. Let's just say Daiya will never eat garlic again.

Once Daiya pulled off a heist to steal a live lobster from a sushi place cause he was bored. That became his pet that he spoils for no reason. Big ass tank and everything. Mondo thinks it's the dumbest thing ever.

"Dude female lobsters can live up to fifty years."

"Good she gets everything in my will."

They both adore the fuck out of Chuck. Whenever Chuck isn't following around Mondo, he seeks out the older brother to ask for treats he shouldn't get.

"But he's such a good boy!"

"Those treats are making him fat!"

"Awww good fatso!"

*incoherent scream from Mondo*

But they both adore the fuck out of that dog.

When Chuck passed, Mondo shut down completely. Daiya saved Chuck's collar before retrieving his ashes for Mondo to keep. While continuing to grieve, Mondo would find Daiya and just...hug him. Daiya wouldn't bother to move him so they sometimes fell asleep like that. It definitely helped both of them to cope.

With the gang, their sibling behavior doesn't stop.

They're very competitive and tend to have competitions. Chugging, push-ups, other endurance contests, and of course, racing.

When Daiya was retiring, he planned to keep riding, but only as a way of transportation.

And during their race, Daiya got hit in such a way that his leg was permanently paralyzed. Mondo's never felt so guilty, thinking he almost killed him.

Daiya is just happy it was him and not Mondo. It was all worth it after Mondo took charge of the gang, resulting in his invite to Hopes Peak.

Daiya has never been prouder.

While Mondo is still sensitive about the accident, Daiya does his best to joke about it as a way of coping and to try and comfort Mondo.

They continued to speak on-call as Mondo went through Hopes Peak. Daiya continued to tease him about his friends, either teasing Mondo directly or making off-hand comments.

"So how old is Yasuhiro again?"

"Wha-?"

"He's really cute.."

"What-?! Daiya don't even think about it-!"

"Is he single?"

So on and so forth.

But overall they have that typical sibling dynamic. Lots of teasing and fighting, but at the end of the day they still love each other and wouldn't have any other brothers.

Unless it's Takemichi.

Random Quirks about the Boys

David:

* Cannot stand sweets, in any capacity, it hurts his teeth. Constantly thinks about cavities and diabetes even though he can’t get either. He just doesn’t like the flavor of sweet things, not even fruit. Marko once forced him to eat cotton candy and he tossed Marko off a cliff while struggling not to vomit.

* Knows everything there is to know about every metal band ever. It’s the only music he likes, with no variation, so he knows even the most underground bands. Even ones from out of state or other countries. And he’ll bring it up randomly into conversations with the others having no idea what he’s talking about. Max tries to learn to so David doesn’t feel isolated by it.

*Always the second to wake up at night. Sometimes the other boys will rotate between who wakes up first, it’s never planned, it just happens like that. But without fail, David will always wake up second, it’s weird and they don’t know how he does it. (Paul and Marko have tried multiple times to wake up at the same time and for some reason, it never works out and they always end up waking up first and third)

Marko

*This man has absolutely zero concept of personal space, it doesn’t even matter who he’s with or standing next to, he will always be just a bit too close. Strangers, children, old people. He’s banned from wandering off on his own for this very reason bc Max thinks he draws too much attention. Star and Laddie both love it tho

*Has experimented with pretty much every media of art and has settled into cooking, clothing up-cycling and mural painting. His absolute worst attempt was knitting, he couldn’t get the hang of it like the old ladies on tv and ended up throwing on of the needles into Paul’s eye

*Do not ask this man for anything if you need it. He will not have anything useful. No pens, gum, band-aids, tape, paper, snacks, drinks, hair ties, nothing. He will always have a needle and thread and a stapler if you need that though. He likes to click the stapler in his brothers’ ears and Dwayne had to buy Marko a new one after he crushed it in his hands one time. Dwayne wasn’t even sorry about it which is why Marko held a grudge for months even after it was replaced.

Paul

*He gets so easily distracted that you’ll have to redirect him at least three times every conversation. There is no other way. He will not notice most things without express direction and he won’t try to either. Like, if it’s important, you will let him know

*He takes the most time getting out the door when the boys go out. David has shirt hair, Marko has curly hair that just needs to be gelled, and Dwayne is just an asshole about it. Both Paul and Dwayne’s hair is similarly cut and yet Dwayne never has trouble with his, and nothing pisses off Paul more

*Super dramatic, easily the most dramatic out of the four. He will over react to literally everything and is super expressive. He has a really loud sense of humor that only Star, Laddie and Marko can really stand. And that’s not just out of the Lost Boys characters, that’s out of literally everyone he’s ever interacted with

Dwayne

*He’s secretly super competitive. Like, he’ll try to come off as aloof as David is, maybe even more so, but he is super competitive for the dumbest things. It’s not about girls, most sports, or kills when they feed. It’s about who gets out the door first (always him just to piss off Paul), or who’s bike is the cleanest in the mornings before they go to sleep, or who ate the most food. He’s competitive about things the others don’t care about in the slightest

*Always over prepared with literally everything. Has a canvas bag just full of the most random and useful shit that he either keeps with his bike or tied to his belt loops to carry with him. It looks weird when he does that. He usually carries it because of Marko and Laddie and they are always asking him for stuff wondering if he’s actually managed to bring it. It’s spooky, but he always does

*Talks in his sleep, a lot, every single night. Doesn’t move around or anything, he’s stark still, just hanging there and talking. It absolutely terrifies everyone and they all avoid sleeping within six feet of him. It even bothers Max and he’s had to talk to Dwayne about it multiple times. Dwayne had no idea that he does it until Max said something bc he just assumed the boys were complaining to mess with him

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I think he's always moving. Just absolutely will not be still for more than five minutes. Drumming his fingers on the desk during meetings, pacing around the room when he's waiting for something, tapping his feet whenever music comes on. If Roy's in the room, unless he's trying to be stealthy, you'll know from the sounds of him moving around. He's the first one dancing at parties, he's drumming the beat to We Will Rock You on the table, he's this constant presence that you just can't help but notice because of how much space he takes up without even trying. Also he was one of those "chewing on toothpicks" guys in his Agent Harper days. Everyone thought he was trying to be cool, but in reality he just Loathed that he needed to stand still and be professional so chewing a toothpick was the best alternative.

Also, while he's trained himself out of the habit now, he was absolutely a pencil chewer when he was a teenager. Not all of the pencils he chewed belonged to him.

13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?

Tbh I can't really see him using emojis in the traditional sense, I don't think he was ever really active on the internet. I think if he did it'd be just thumbs up or thumbs down. But, if he were to use other emojis, I think it'd 100% be like, to tease people. Garth once misclicked and sent 😚 instead of 😊 and Roy now ends every text to Garth with 😚. Alternatively, Mia once sent him this 🐱 emoji and Roy thought it was the dumbest looking cat he's ever seen and now uses it constantly.

12. The unpopular character you actually like and why more people should like them.

I'm struggling to answer this because I don't know how far-reaching the hate actually *is* for a lot of characters and how many haters are just in one small circle 😭 I guess with how rampant New 52 fans are on the site, Ollie's gotta be pretty unpopular just based on them, so I'll go with him. People should like Oliver Queen because he tries *so hard*. Is he perfect? No. He's human. And unlike some other human heroes who shan't be named, he's man enough to change. Some unnamed heroes stick so closely to the beliefs they set out at the start, but Ollie changes and adapts! I mean, he's literally a billionaire-turned-socialist. And a lot of the hate comes from his relationship with Roy, which most of it stems from like 1 panel that's taken out of context and fails to recognise Ollie's character growth. He saw addiction as a moral failing, and then re-evaluated his worldview and changed. And also he is dad <3 second dad ever (his oldest son is the first)

13. Worst blorbofication.

The obvious answer is Roy but yk what I'm gonna go against the expectation because the blorbofied Roy is basically a completely different character to my Roy, and is based in actual comics. I'm gonna go with Dick Grayson. I'm always a little scared to right about him because he contains multitudes and he's honestly one of the most complex and compelling characters in DC. That being said. I hate that fandom has basically boiled him down to "sunshine big brother". Yes, his relationships with the younger Batkids are very sweet, but also Dick Grayson is not a happy man. Dick Grayson is a bit of a bitch sometimes. I'm too tired to look for the panel right now, but there's this one panel in Outsiders (2003) where he goes off on Roy about the similarities between him and Ollie and ends it with "At least he was never a junkie", which was prompted by Roy (rightfully) calling Dick out for being disconnected from the team, I'm pretty sure not visiting Anissa in hospital was one of the things he brought up. A big fanon take I've seen is "When Dick's sad you can never tell because he puts on a smile", and while that may be true in *some* circumstances, it's absolutely not his default. Iirc Outsiders was formed after Donna's death, too, and he's sad, so he pushes everyone away and not in the martyr sense. Anyway Dick Grayson isn't the golden batkid he's the batkid who was crushed under the weight of being Bruce's partner rather than sidekick and forced to grow up too soon.

MY AVIATION ORIGIN STORY

Basically, and I’m not exaggerating, I randomly decided to make a sad-excuse for a helicopter as a part of our wood shop unit in middle school. I genuinely do not know why I chose a helicopter, there is no reason for me to have chosen a helicopter lol. My wood shop teacher is like “I’m actually very intrigued on why you picked a helicopter like what made you pick it? I’m impressed!” And I literally had not answer for him.

My interest was solidified when I went to EAA AirVenture. Watching the F-22 Raptor fly was and always will be breathtaking to me. That demo gave me the love for military aviation and especially fighters that I have today.

Yugo for the ask meme?

Banana boy! The idiot! The silly himself! Took me too damn long to get to this, but better late than never, I think. Here you go!

Favorite thing about them: If I had to put it in one word, that'd be tenacity. As Yuugo himself put it, he doesn't even know what giving up means, no matter what sort of adversity he faces. This persistence is honestly admirable for someone who grew up in an environment that relentlessly pushed him down at each and every turn, and it's a quality I strongly respect.

Shoutout to his baby vibes, though. Yuugo is precious and must be protected at all costs (even if I know he can damn well protect himself).

Least favorite thing about them: Yuugo's single-minded approach to things is usually endearing, but sometimes it can be rather frustrating. One such example is choosing to duel Yuuri as payback for kidnapping Rin... instead of -you know- going back to find Rin himself? I struggle to even justify that by way of magical fuckery, because as far as was shown, Yuugo was very much himself when he made that decision.

*sigh*

Favorite line: Would it be cheating the question if I say too many to count? Because it's true. This boy says the dumbest things sometimes, but he also has his sweet moments and I love every single one of those. That said, Clear Wing's summon chant deserves an honorary mention. I think it's very neat.

brOTP: Imma throw a curveball and say Yuuya. I was always intrigued by the idea of possible interactions between the two, and the interactions we got in Yuugo's Duel Links event did not disappoint at all!

I just think they're very neat together. They're both adorkable idiots who can't seem to hold the braincell right, and the small differences between them only make the dynamic more interesting. They're also a lot more perceptive than they might let on, and I think that'd lend itself well to interactions where one of the two is feeling down. I'd love to see more of these sillies together, honestly. Please let them tag together sometime.

OTP: I kid you not when I say my primary reason for shipping him with Rin is because of the ship name pun (Ringo is literally just apple in Japanese), BUT! I've come to appreciate it a lot more overtime, because it's actually pretty interesting for a cliché ship dynamic if you squint hard enough. There's a lot of ways to interpret their relationship, and a fair amount of room for emotional growth on both sides too. I think it's nice, but alas, we never really got much of it onscreen.

nOTP: I don't know chief, I just don't see what's there to ship in his and Yuzu's friendship. I guess it does offer the interesting concept where they're both trying to cope with the loss of their loved one through the other, but that just.... sort of rubs me the wrong way. I see them as great friends, but nothing past that at all.

Random headcanon: I think we can all agree that Yuugo's entire demeanor just screams ADHD. Strong hyperfixation on one interest? Check. A tendency to ramble at the smallest prompt? Check. A general inability to just hold still? Check. A crippling case of constant airheadedness? Check!

Unpopular opinion: Not sure if this really classifies, but I actually really like how they handled the "Fusion" joke in the EN dub. Seeing them try and pull a new wordplay every time is mildly amusing at worst and downright hilarious at best, and my personal favorite is the one where he says his name and the Obelisk Force reply with "Yugo? You go where?"

M: What’s the weirdest AU scenario you’ve ever come up with?  Did it turn into a story?

I don't really tend to do anything majorly AU in Obikin fandom. Them being space monks with such a messy power dynamic is the whole draw for me! I did write a prompt fic where Obi-Wan was a Senator instead of a Jedi (AU from Qui-Gon not saving him from the slavers on Bandomeer), and I've done a couple of age reversals... That's about as adventurous as it gets. xD

R: Which writers (fanfic or otherwise) do you consider the biggest influence on you and your writing?

Hmmm, probably Sue Townsend. She was such a master of unreliable narrative pov and that's what I'm always aiming for in fic - the reader should be all: omg, character x, why are you such an idiot!?!?!? Can you not read that blatant body language/whatever? While character x carries on obliviously coming to the dumbest most incorrect conclusions.

Z: Is there a story you’ve written that doesn’t seem to get much love?

I write so much it's kind of the default! One of my fave fics I ever wrote still has a grand total of 2 kudos ten years after I posted it. It is exactly what I wanted to happen in that show though so I still re-read it from time to time and wallow in the world of my own headcanons.

Honeymoon is kind of just thoughts right now, I did start writing it but I'm not super pleased with how the first draft went so I'm gonna start another draft hopefully soon. but.

As the name implies, it'll be about Thomas and Avalon's honeymoon. Avalon plans it, and the whole thing is a surprise to Thomas. The first two days are a hike up to a special campsite Avalon found. I have this headcanon that while Thomas doesn't mind the outdoors, he's not very interested in hiking/camping, so he's definitely just Putting Up With It for his mountain(of a)man husband who loves camping. The "special campsite" Avalon found is a beautiful lakeside cabin, similar to one Thomas used to own (I headcanon that he's Canadian and he used to have a little cabin on the Okanagan Lake back when there weren't that many cabins on the lake. RCD Hunt has sold it, but HWU Hunt still has it)

It's specifically for prompt 2, and I will be doing a separate fic for prompts 1 and 9, bc it's already longer than I intended and I feel like prompts 1 and 9 fit hand and hand. also for a specific plot reason.

It's about Thomas and Avalon realizing that actually, no, HRT does not work as a contraceptive for trans men despite what the doctor that prescribed his HRT to him said (he started his transition after graduating high school, in the 90s, so medical misinformation regarding trans men was kind of to be expected)

I've gotta admit, writing this one has made me realize that while I do really like Thomas and Avalon as dads, I don't think it really fits for my RCD story. Partially because of specific things happening which would make them both feel like yeah, maybe we shouldn't be parents, but also because that standard, heteronormative American Dream 2.5 Kids just in general doesn't feel right for them. So them having kids will be a noncanon (to my writing) AU. I'm wayyy too attached to Teddy and Chanterelle to just... not write them at all

as for the other ones I'm excited about, I'm gonna try to keep this short and sweet:

It Won’t Get Better (But It Won’t Get Worse) is my RCD But Avalon Is A Character In It rewrite fic. Avalon and Thomas are exes who come back into each other's lives to work on The Last Duchess. It's worth noting that 1) Avalon does not take the place of the RCD MC, she is still her own person, and 2) the topics that RCD 2 tried to cover (and similar topics-i.e. fatphobia in Hollywood) will be plot-relevant. I think trying to rewrite RCD while glossing over those topics the same way that PB did would just be... wrong. However, my intentions with this fic will be to focus on the recovery and the things that Montmarte does will happen off screen. They will be talked about between characters, but they won't be described in depth. I will tag and warn accordingly for every chapter. Despite what the title and what I've said here may imply, it won't be grimdark with no happy ending. Things will get better.

aaaaaaaand Blister In The Sun is a rewrite of Austin's route, except my mc, Harvy, falls in love with Bennie the second the meet each other. It's shitty people being absolutely terrible at being in love with each other, plus also correcting Ludia's decision to try and make Bennie be both some genius criminal mastermind and the dumbest man alive at the same time (spoiler alert: It was the cops behind it all!)

To this day it’s this fic with Dazai! It’s from my 100 + 200 Prompt Special, and it holds a special place in my heart 💗 Dazai is a complex/difficult character to write for imo and I spent so long rewriting it and re-editing it. But I’m happy with the way it turned out and it’s one of my best fics that I ever written ☺️

While Kukki believes in the myth of the red string of fate, she thinks that the horoscope and astrology is pretty much bs (sure, some stuff might be accurate to some personality traits shared between people with the same sign, but basing your love life on the horoscope? That's the dumbest thing she's ever heard).

If we were to go by the horoscope, Kukki being a LIbra would make her compatible mostly with Gemini, Taurus, Aquarius, Cancer and Sagittarius. But let's not base her good chemistry with Niragi only on the fact that their signs are compatible!
