@henshyne (lear) asked: a hesitant kiss (accepting)
it’s hardly proper for the captain of the outriders of the knights of favonius to disappear in the middle of a gathering hosted by the knights themselves, especially one meant to celebrate the deeds of their honorary member, but surely she can be excused. despite the joyous atmosphere, it’s still too stifling, in the sense that it is too much. amos is still a little overwhelmed by everything that has happened as of late, let alone the return of memories she thinks she could have lived without. but even more than that, she just wants a bit of peace with her most beloved, and with his beliefs, it’s hard to get that when the other knights are still around.
not that she really minds that. all critiques and criticism of the knights of favonius are valid, and she can’t say she doesn’t understand where his beliefs come from, given his family history. even if she protested against his ideals initially, she has since come to accept letting them be and allowing him to change his mind in his own time. no sense in forcing it, or she’ll just end up pushing him just as far ( or farther ) away as she fears their relationship might be in reality. or perhaps she’s overthinking again, letting paranoia get the best of her... that’s always been one of her problems, even before she remembered why she had such high and self-imposed walls.
but, she reminds herself, is it not proof contrariwise that he is here now? that he’s made the choice for himself to come see her here, as he’s done time and time again? why let such doubts hide the plain truth?
well, maybe it’s not so plain. lear can be a bit difficult to read, but amos has learned not to take everything he says and does at face value, to look beyond the haughty prince attitude and find what he really means. maybe that’s what gives her room to doubt herself, to wonder if maybe she is reading too much into it after all, even as they sway to and fro here in the open courtyard behind the knights’ headquarters to the tune of the music coming from within.
as if reading her mind, lear slows their dance to a stop, and before she can assume the worst ( always jumping to worst-case scenarios, this poor woman ) or even inquire what could be wrong, she feels a hand rest carefully on her cheek, effectively silencing her. verbally, anyway― her expression asks in lieu of her voice, brows knitted together and bright blue eyes filled with concern. his own expression reads as conflicted to her, but she cannot understand what for. is there some sort of problem? should she have not asked him to come here after all...?
just as she gets the courage to ask, though, she’s silenced again― this time by a pair of lips pressed to hers. it’s soft, still clearly hesitant, but for once, amos doesn’t let that feed into paranoia she carries into her relationships with those around her. instead she shoves all such thoughts aside ( after a moment or two of processing what was happening in the first place ) in favor of wrapping her arms around his neck when he begins to pull away, rising up to meet him in another kiss of her own. this one is just as short and sweet, but she hopes a bit more confident― hopefully the reassurance she thinks he might need, given that hesitance.
goodness knows she herself needs it, too.
❝...you’re impossibly adorable sometimes, you know?❞ a quiet laugh come with a shake of her head before she rests her forehead on his. gently does her hand move to rest upon his cheek, too, thumb stroking gently at the skin.
❝i love you, you know. and i wouldn’t mind doing that again, if that’s what you were so worried about~❞
ah, was she really doubting him just moments before? how could she, when he has moments like this that prove how genuine he is and make her fall for him impossibly harder?
