A Love Letter to Artists

There are some artists that make me feel like shit when I look at their work. They make me feel like I’ll never be that good and that I should just give up. But there are some, a lot even, that make me want to strive for more. I mostly get this way with artists that I’ve been following for a while. Ones that I’ve seen grow and make me believe I can grow. These are some of the most inspirational artists I know and make me believe I can do more.

The first on this list is a tumblr artist that goes by the name of Ollierachnid. I’ve been following them since early 2021 when I got really into the video game At Dead Of Night. At the time I thought of them as a goal to strive toward. Someone really cool who made amazing fan art for a game I liked. They recently got back into this fandom and it made me smile. I look back at their old art and think “this is amazing” . I look at their new art and think the same. They make me believe that someone out there thinks I could be that cool too. They make me believe I can grow and change. Thank you for posting your art. The next artist I would like to talk about is the youtuber GinjaNigjaOwO, otherwise known as June. June was one of the first ever artists that made me want to draw more than I did then or even do now. Every time I would watch one of their videos I would get out my sketchbook and try to replicate how their bodies looked and put my own spin on it. I would see their color work and it would brighten up my world. I would see their characters and worlds and want to make my own. They are a pretty big Youtube creator so I doubt they’ll ever see this. But I hope they know they are impacting people. Thank you for posting your art.

I’ve been following the Youtuber Echo Gillette for probably the longest out of everyone on this list. I found them through their Sketchbook Tour series and loved them ever since. I would see their old art from those videos and thought that it was so cool and I literally made my favorite color red because of them. Red still is my favorite color. I thought it was so cool that they went to vidcon and made videos about being weird and liking strange things. Thank you for posting your art.

there’s a lot! idk how many are obvious in my art since they all inspire me in different ways but:

-pokemon! specifically their human character design

- jamie hewlett/the early phases of gorillaz

-various 2000s/10s cartoons like the powerpuff girls + tawog

-similarly, anything genndy tartakovsky

-art youtubers, both the ones that got me into art and the ones i watch now (ginjaninjaOwO, subjectively, drawfee, echo gillette..)

-ai yazawa - i don’t post oc stuff here (id like to .eventually) but the costume design in all her work is fantastic

-blue period! less of an art STYLE thing and more of just an art thing .it makes me feel a lot

-chainsaw man and dorohedoros fantastic colour use

-so so many artists on twitter/insta/tumblr, im honestly thankful to see so much amazing art every day and there’s no way i could count all of the single pieces that inspire me
