Under the guise of rooting out the fraud that Donald Trump baselessly insists cost him the last election, Republicans have mounted a coordinated legal campaign to throw out mail-in ballots in key battleground states — an effort seemingly aimed at Democratic voters. “[Republicans are] looking for every advantage they can get,” Sylvia Albert, director of voting and elections at the nonpartisan democracy organization Common Cause, told the Washington Post on Monday. “And they’ve calculated that this is a way that they can win more seats.”
As the Post reports, the GOP is seeking to disqualify some mail-in ballots in at least three states, all of which were key to Joe Biden’s 2020 victory and have been at the center of Trump’s election lies and conspiracies since: Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Kristina Karamo, the MAGA Republican running for secretary of state in Michigan, filed a lawsuit in Detroit in October challenging absentee ballots that were not cast in person with an ID, without offering rationale for zeroing in exclusively on the majority-Black, Democratic-leaning city. Karamo has been pushing conspiracy theories about fraud — including some pulled from a widely-debunked Dinesh D'Souza movie. That suit is seen as unlikely to succeed. But in Wisconsin, Republicans won their challenge against the nonpartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission to toss absentee ballots with incomplete witness addresses. And in Pennsylvania, the Republican National Committee filed a suit to toss ballots with undated envelopes; the state Supreme Court found the RNC has standing and ordered that election officials “segregate and preserve any ballots contained in undated or incorrectly dated outer envelopes,” putting thousands of already-cast votes at risk of going uncounted. That could prove hugely consequential in the state, home of one of the highest-stakes Senate races: a close contest between Democrat John Fetterman and Trump-backed Republican Mehmet Oz.
Tumblr media
“A cornerstone of our democracy is that every ballot should be counted,” Democratic Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf wrote Sunday evening. “No voter should be disenfranchised simply because they made a minor error in filling out their ballot.”
Trump and the Republicans have railed hard against mail-in voting since 2020, lying ahead of that election that the method would be rife with fraud. That proved not to be true; the 2020 election, carried out in the middle of a raging pandemic, was “the most transparent, secure, and verified election in American history,” as elections expert David Becker told me in September. That the lies have persisted is no accident: Trump’s attacks on the integrity of mail-in ballots helped form the foundation of his failed campaign to “stop the count” before Biden overtook his Election Night lead. The GOP appears to be continuing those attacks as one component of a broader strategy both to challenge unfavorable outcomes and to limit Democratic participation in the process, including via state-level voting restrictions and intimidation campaigns against both voters and election workers.
It hardly seems accidental that, as they mount legal challenges to absentee ballots, Republicans have also encouraged their own base to vote on Election Day. “If you can eliminate one percent of the votes and they tend to lean Democratic, then that gives you a statistical advantage,” Clifford Levine, a Pittsburgh-based election lawyer for Democrats, told the Post. It remains to be seen what kind of impact the challenges have on this week’s midterms. But the suits underscore the extent to which ongoing lies about the 2020 election are factoring into the 2022 election. “This is not about stopping fraud,” Levine continued. “It’s about discounting mail ballots. There’s just no question.”

"The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Manhattan, said the band was also objecting to Trump’s use of the song because members Jack White and Meg White “vehemently oppose the policies adopted and actions taken by Defendant Trump when he was President and those he has proposed for the second term he seeks.”
Several prominent musicians have previously criticized Trump for using their songs at rallies. Last week, a federal judge in Atlanta ruled that Trump and his campaign must stop using the song “Hold On, I’m Coming” after a lawsuit from the estate of Isaac Hayes Jr."

Ohio republicans trying to hold an election they hoped would go unnoticed in order to deny Ohioans simple majority rule (changing it from 50% to 60% majority), only for it to be one of the highest voter turnouts for an August election ever in the state AND the votes against them being 60%+ anyway? Lol. Lmao even.

A judge threw out a lawsuit Monday that challenged voting by absentee ballot in Detroit, saying a Republican candidate for Secretary of State failed to produce any evidence of violations.
“Plaintiffs have raised a red flag of election law violations and corruption concerning Detroit’s procedures for the November 8th election. This court’s ruling takes down that flag,” Wayne County Judge Tim Kenny wrote.
Kristina Karamo and others sued to try to force Detroit residents to vote in person or go to the city clerk’s office to get an absentee ballot.
They filed a lawsuit 13 days before Tuesday’s election, making a variety of allegations about how Detroit reviews signatures on absentee ballots and monitors drop-off boxes. The lawsuit, among other things, also claimed the city was using “uncertified high-speed tabulators” to count votes.
“Despite plaintiffs’ arguments to ‘shed light in a dark place,’ they have failed dramatically,” the judge said. “Over an eight-hour evidentiary hearing, no evidence of election law violations” was revealed.
Kenny noted that Detroit elections administrator Daniel Baxter and former Michigan elections director Chris Thomas testified about how the city performs its job.
Approximately 60,000 Detroit voters had submitted an absentee ballot by last Thursday, Kenny said.
“While it is easy to hurl accusations of violations of law and corruption, it is another matter to come forward and produce the evidence our Constitution and laws require,” the judge said.

There are really just two issues that matter this election:
One is climate- Biden put us on a path to halve carbon emissions in 6 years and reach net zero by 2050. Harris will continue that. Trump will actually increase use of fossil fuels while gutting regulations.
Every person on Earth will be harmed and endangered by that, regardless of your identity, location, or views.
The other issue is the peaceful transfer of power. Whatever problems you may have with Harris, she'll leave peaceably in 4 or 8 years. Trump will not. This is not fear mongering or hyperbole. He has said that if he wins we'll never need to vote again. He met his last electoral defeat by inciting and enabling a violent insurrection. Sure, he's an old man, but he's surrounded by young men who share the same contempt for democracy and the rule of law- like his Vice Presidential nominee, JD Vance, who will assume power if he dies in office.
We were lucky to get him out once, barely. His people are much more prepared for a coup now, he'll have broad legal immunity now thanks to SCOTUS, and he's openly vowed to become "a dictator on day one" and deploy troops on American streets.
Any issue with Harris is a temporary problem, and you can try again in 4 or 8 years. With Trump, you can't.
THE ONLY REASON TO ELECT TRUMP IS IF YOU ACTIVELY WANT THE WORLD TO BURN. And don't care how many actual people burn in the process. And if that is your position, then by your own choice you are an enemy of all humanity.

gojo would kill your work husband. but if he were the work husband, that's a different story
REAL!! he’s such a hypocrite because if someone mentioned you had a work husband, his entire world would stop and he wold devise the absolute worst plans to make sure that your co-worker, everyone at your job, and everyone in the next building over knew that he was happily committed to you
but if he is the work husband, he’s very........ dutiful in his role. there’s a loose office/lawyer au in my head where satoru is your secretary, and for all intents and purposes, your personal assistant, and he’s good at his job, but mostly because he considers his job to be pleasing you. he has coffee for you when you arrive, he moves your schedule around without you asking, he has answers to questions before you can even ask them, he has fresh flowers on your desk weekly, pokes into your meetings to pretend to hand you a file that’s really just maybe a single document in a manilla folder with candy on top of it—he’s made himself your business, your partner; he’s made himself irreplaceable, and he loves to remind everybody of that fact.
he’s also extremely loyal. sure, he could day a week’s worth of work done in about a day, but that doesn’t mean he’ll just use his talents for anybody. he’s your secretary, so he’s at your beck and call, and everyone knows it. they know he’s the best, but also that he’s off limits—not because you won’t share him, but because satoru won’t let himself be shared.
he also extends his duties beyond work, of course. when he hands you a print out of your schedule for the day and you’re confused by the three-hour block of time you have in the middle of the day, satoru just helps you shrug your coat of your shoulders and smiles, “that’s for the lunch date you have with me, of course!” hanging up your coat in your closet for you, “i’m paying, see you soon, sweets.” and because you’re great at your job, and satoru helps you be great, nobody really questions when the two of you have time for a 13-course tasting menu at 1pm on a tuesday afternoon. and if they did, all satoru would say that you two had a lovely date
#anonymous#he's like donna from suits but worse because he's like if harvey were donna LOL#i have soooooo much to say about him#he doesn't really Have to work he's a nepotism baby supreme#but he met you maybe in undergrad? and he's been obsessed w you since#he knows youre a workaholic so he's dutifully sat by your side all these years through college through grad/professional school#and when you told him you got to hire your own assistant he was the very first applicant#because getting paid to spend his days with you and take care of you? he was already doing that for free might as well make it official#everyone in the office knows satoru loves you except you honestly#he probably has his own masters/JD but elects to be your assistant anyway bc that's so much more fun#what he Really wants to be a househusband but first he's gotta ask you out and propose and all that good stuff (cue him rolling his eyes#and going on about formalities and boring systems and blah blah blah)#also in the office au in my head: nanami (also senior partner) higuruma ofc <3 beloved (managing partner) and TOJI!#WALK WITH ME!#its honestly probably satoru's influence that gets toji into law... as someone who so feverently broke it in the past#idk maybe there's a megumi situation that makes gojo be like yk if ur this good at skirting/breaking the law youd probably be half decent#at enforcing it... or at least helping other people get around it too#and so lawyer toji is born#does he screw around w the rich people who r stupid w their money? absolutely#but you nanami and higuruma just let it be bc he brings in those settlements better than anybody else....#hmmm... i kinda wanna make megumi somebody's associate but also..... yuuta.....#i think i just like sticking yuuta in a tie if im being real#but anyway... satoru is your Work Husband and everyone knows he wants to be your real husband#but they just let it slide bc rumour has it even tho hes just a secretary hes got equity in the firm?? and besides that his heart eyes give#away his hopeless devotion from a mile away#the day you actually start seeing somebody outside of work... oh theyre in for Trouble#satoru x reader#him dragging you out of ur office late at night and u protesting so he just. puts u over his shoulder#and ur telling him to let u down but he's insisting u go home and then nanami pops out of his office#and ur like wait nanami this isnt what it looks like but he's so dead in the eyes when he just sighs
