Summary:
They never really got to say goodbye, not really. And so the ‘hello again’ is so much sweeter, despite everything between having happened.
I really couldn't have asked for a better Breha Organa ❤️
I just wanted to say that I'm more than happy with Simone Kessell's performance as Breha Organa.
She did understood the asigment so well. Her Queen mode is amazing and her wife-mom mode is beautiful.
One of the scenes where I can explain it better is in this one. Where the tone in her voice is so on point.
She really mix the strong and wise tone with her tender and kind tone, getting to see the description of the books so well portrayed on screen by her is beautiful.
She may look too firm at first but at the end she's just so soft for her daughter, because she waited 10 years for a child, maybe even more, just to love her with her entire being, because this little girl is her biggest joy, not being the Queen or anything else, and Simone Kessell portrayed it so beautifully in this scene
Other scenes where she nailed the queen-wife-mom mode
Not to mention her chemistry with Jimmy Smits.
In all the content where Breha showed up before Kenobi (Princess of Alderaan, Queen's Shadow, Eclipse) Bail and Breha are described as such a beautiful couple, they understand the other so well, they support each other so much, they REALLY LOVE each other so much. Even after more than 30 years of marriage/knowing each other, they still flirt like teens and saw the other with so much love in their eyes.
Look at Bail talking with their daughter about when they were younger:
“Had to find some other adventures, started chasing your mother instead”
Now look them together:
The teasing in Breha's words
The look of pure love in her eyes.
The “perfect understanding with no words” that Claudia Gray described
Simone Kessell did a perfect job portraying Breha Organa, the Queen of Alderaan, Leia Organa's mother and Bail's wife. And I'll beg anyone at Disney and Lucas film to get to see her again in something more
We deserve to see more of Breha Organa as her own and Simone Kessell deserves all the appreciation, recognition, respect and love for what she did here
Reva survive and is found by Yoda and Obi-Wan when they come to the Temple before trying to defeat Palpatine and Anakin respectively.
Then, Tatooine exile.
The strugle of two jedi in hidding, on a desert planet. One, an ex-councillor with trauma. The other, an ex-initiate with also trauma.
Obi-Wan is actually Obi-Wan instead of a cartoonish version of a grieving man, "here insert PTSD". He is Obi-Wan in all his complexities, with his qualities, his warmth, his relentless will to provide and protect the vulnerable, his natural ways ot teaching, and his flaws, his fear, his brooding, his at-times blindness, his certainity in things not really founded in anything concrete but born from negative feelings…
And Reva… Finally, Reva as an actual child instead of a cartoonish angry child, "here insert vitriols that everyone has to bend over backward to sooth regardless of if she's right or not". An actual child, with the expected sadness related to the murder of her family and destruction of everything she has ever known. But also one with dreams, questions, idle curiosity and games, thoughts and chatter, friends from the neighbourhood, childish absolute certainty but also wise reflections… Just… a child, a good one with her struggles and her own strengh.
I love how we see everything from her eyes.
The change in perspective, at times more simplistic or perceptive, is just great.
I love all the exploration of Tatooine like a kid.
I love how she try to adapt and want to be a jedi, even if a new different kind of one in this new era where they are hunted; while also taking the time to just... be a kid.
It was just… a lot. Simple, complex, aching, sweet, heavy, uplifting and just… T_T Yeah.
Since Dagan is (canonically) described as "one of the Jedi Order's finest warriors" - and that during the High Republic, being the "golden age" of the Jedi, when these warriors were on a whole other level - I think he would absolutely be one of the very, very few who could hold his own against Darth Vader (the others being the Skywalker twins and Obi-Wan) - with the fight ending in a possible standoff.
And that regardless of not being the chosen one - he is still said to be "incredibly strong with the Force", and an "extremely talented lightsaber duelist".
Goodness, he even beat Rayvis on his own, while it took several (High Republic era !) Jedi masters to defeat the latter when they tried it.
~*~
Also:
I really love that he has his golden lightsaber here again ... although I think it should be white, as that is the colour of the blade, produced by a healed kyber crystal.
Somehow this looks like a potential redeemed Dagan scenario, when Vader says to him "You will fall to the power of the dark side.", and he counters "I will not be imprisoned again!"
It's like he is protecting his home (and his loved ones, above all) from Vader and the empire. As such it makes more sense if the battle took place on Koboh, and he is trying to prevent Vader from getting access to the coordinates allowing the latter to find and get to Tanalorr.
Also, I imagine he's there together with Cal, who is also about to join the fight.
Yep, I like the thought of these two warming up to each other, and even becoming good friends over time, with Dagan somehow becoming to Cal, what Cal once hoped Bode could be.
