Soggy Bottom Boys - I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow 2000
"I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow" is a traditional American folk song first recorded by Dick Burnett, a partially blind fiddler from Kentucky. The song was originally titles "Farewell Song" when printed in a Richard Burnett songbook in 1913. Burnett recorded the song in 1927 but this version was unreleased and the master recording destroyed. The first commercially released record was by Emry Arthur in 1928, and which gave the song its current title.
It's been covered plenty of times during the years with lyrical tweaks, but the biggest impact worldwide happened with the release of the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou?, where it plays a central role in the plot, earning the three runaway protagonists public recognition as the Soggy Bottom Boys. The song had lead vocals by Dan Tyminski, who also was the vocalist on Avicii's 2013 hit "Hey Brother". "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow" received a CMA Award for "Single of the Year" in 2001 and a Grammy for "Best Country Collaboration with Vocals" in 2002, and also named Song of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 2001. It earned a total of 70,4% total yes votes here.

Also I made it canonverse!! (Aelin’s birthday in HoF to be exact)
No warnings, 524 words
⨯ ⁺ ✦ ・ 。゚⨯ ゚♡ ✧* ・。* ★,。・:*:・゚☆
The weight in Rowan’s sack was heavy, but not in a way that made his muscles burn, no. Instead, it felt heavy for the way it filled his heart with excitement and anticipation.
It was the princess’s birthday today, and a trip that would take one morning easily became an entire day of looking for something that’d light up her face. It had been easier than he anticipated since the merchants of the town she charmed were more than happy to see him, showing him all their goods before he could ask.
Still, Rowan felt an unusual twitch in his stomach every time he tried to anticipate what Aelin would look like when she first saw it.
Entering the kitchen, it was as full as usual.
“Price Rowan.” Malakai got up from a stool. “Any news on the murder?”
At the same time, Emrys said, “Want some porridge, Prince?”
“No,” he answered Malakai, then turned to Emrys to say the same, but stopped.
It was mid-afternoon, and Aelin almost burned out days ago.
He grabbed some porridge to take upstairs. Rowan found her lying in bed, reading a book she lent from another demi-Fae from the fortress.
The princess whipped her head towards him, the afternoon sun streaking into the room making her golden hair look like a halo. “How was it?”
“Predictable.” He opened his sack and grabbed one of the two packages. “Happy birthday.”
“You didn’t!” Aelin jumped off the bed. “I thought your gift was leaving me alone.”
“That’s insulting,” With Fae speed, he whisked the package away from her when she reached for it. “but I don’t think I could grant you such a gift, Princess.”
“Good.” Aelin gave him an adorable coy smile and extended her hands towards him, clenching them. “Now I want to see the gift you can give me.” She opened the package with a loud gasp, a thrilled gleam in her eyes. “Chocolate!”
Aelin sat up on the bed, tossing one into her full lips. And she moaned, the sound so unintentionally lascivious Rowan had to glance away in order to calm down the roaring in his blood.
“God, I missed those. Thank you.” She smiled at him, her eyes so content she looked intoxicated by the chocolate truffle.
“And…” he turned to grab the—
“You bought me a sword!?” When he handed it to her, Aelin’s jaw fell slack. “It’s so pretty!”
Rowan frowned at the overjoyed princess. Really, that was what she was thinking about? How the sword looked, not the first-rate steel or the easy grip of the hilt?
She was flailing the sword award, posing with it. “I’m going to be so dangerous now!”
“You like it?”
She bent her knees, side-thrusting the sword. “Fuck yes, I do!”
“Good.” As quick as his heartbeat, he took it from her hands. “I’ll keep it with your other blades.”
Her shoulders dropped. “Oh, come on!”
Rowan barely heard her protests, he was just swallowing his conflicted feelings down, repeating one thing to himself until he believed it.
Rowan was not, under any circumstance, physically attracted to that childish display of swordsmanship. Absolutely not.

You ever start making a post and then realize you need to be making a completely different post? Well this is that.
I know that many many people have already discussed the ways in which the lessons Merlin is taught by both Gaius and Kilgharrah (that [1] it’s his job to prove there can be Good Wizards and [2] a Good Wizard is defined by their willingness to maintain the status quo) fuck him up badly and lead to him preaching those same lessons at other righteously angry magic users
But I just get angrier and angrier the more I think about it because I’ve seen what that rhetoric does to people!! I’ve lived it!!
I remember the quiet shame my father (a black man) expressed when we talked about Will Smith hitting Chris Rock at the Oscars last year - the look on his face as he guiltily explained, “It’s not that I think it’s his responsibility to represent us all in front of the white folks exactly… it’s just that I wish that the first time someone struck someone else at this awards show, it hadn’t been a black man who did it.”
He knew on a logical level that a man’s actions (whatever you think of them) couldn’t be weighed morally on the basis of ‘how it makes us look,’ but he was raised to keep that idea constantly in mind: “Every time you step out of the house, you are representing your race to the world, so don’t do anything that reinforces negative stereotypes,” is one of the first lessons he remembers learning as a child.
And I do it too! Two years ago, my dad and I got pulled over while driving my (white) mom’s car downtown- one of her taillights was out or something idk- and for some reason her vehicle registration papers weren’t in the glove box that day. Naturally, dad and I were both freaking the fuck out, so I did exactly what all logic suggested was the safest thing to do:
[1] Emphasize that it was my mother’s car (hoping the clearly-skeptical cop would extrapolate her whiteness from the difference in my and my dad’s skin tones), [2] mention that my mom works at the local hospital, while my dad was out of town and would be Leaving Soon, [3] specifically refer to the fact that I’m a college student (educated and therefore Civilized according to the standards of the dominant class)
So, yeah, basically the message was “It’s okay, we are Assimilated! We have connections to Whiteness! And if you still don’t trust us, don’t worry, because we don’t intend to overstay our welcome in your community!”
And it fucking worked. We got out of there with a ticket and matching anxiety attacks, and my dad refused to drive my mom’s car again for the rest of his visit, and we were fine.
But we weren’t fine because we’d somehow- by playing the game- convinced the cop that black people weren’t as untrustworthy as he had been assuming. We did not leave him just a little less racist than he had been before. We were just (very tentatively) stamped “some of the good ones”.
That is what Gaius and (increasingly over time) Merlin spend the whole show doing. That is what Merlin tries to teach Gilli to do in “The Sorcerer’s Shadow”. And, hey, it’s a survival strategy! It isn’t unreasonable as a member of a minority group to try and keep yourself and your loved ones safe.
But what it isn’t is an action plan for systemic change. You cannot “one of the good ones” your way into a more equal world. It isn’t about getting enough cops knights to like you personally that they willingly abandon their prejudices and convince the head of government to change the laws.
“Maybe it’s your destiny to change that” my ass, Kilgharrah. It was a bullshit plan. It was always a bullshit plan, and Merlin’s initial instincts (seek out allies in similarly disadvantaged positions and then break the shit out of the law for them) were much more in line with the ‘Emrys, liberator of magic’ persona than any of the shit you and Gaius told him to do.

Happy STS! Seasons are changing. Tell me how one or more of your characters would react. Are they dressing cozy? Obsessed with everything pumpkin? Have they been prepping for Halloween since last year?
If Emry, Cal, and Aspen were in the modern day:
- Emry LOVES fall. Man looks so good in flannel it isn’t even funny. 10/10 at making leaf piles for Aspen to jump into. Gets leaves stuck in his curly hair. It’s too cute.
- Cal tries to be above the pumpkin spice lattes. She isn’t.
- (she also loves a good chai.)
- Upon learning that people love pumpkins this time of year, Aspen eagerly turns their backyard into a pumpkin patch. An award-winning one. Like, the best one you’ve ever seen. They actually grew too many pumpkins and now they’re overwhelmed. Send help.

MY MISTER // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 9,1 Benim buanım: 8
Drama: My Mister
Hangul: 나의 아저씨
Director: Kim Won-Suk, Kim Sang-Woo
Writer: Park Hae-Young
Episodes: 16
Date: 2018
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Cast: Lee Sun-Kyun, IU, Park Ho-San, Song Sae-Byeok, Kim Young-Min,
2019 (55th) BaekSang Arts Awards - May 1, 2019
Best Drama
Best Screenplay (Park Hae-Young)
Cenaze sahnesi, büyükannenin Dong Hoon’a yazdığı not, Dong Hoon’un tefeci ile kavga sahnesi bence dizinin en etkileyici sahneleriydi.

Blog Tour + #Review: THE SWORD AND THE SOPHOMORE by B.P. Sweany (w/ #giveaway)! #rockstarbooktours
Tumblr media
Hello, hello! Welcome to Book-Keeping and my stop on the Rockstar Book Tours blog tour for The Sword and the Sophomore by B.P. Sweany! I've got all the details on this YA Arthurian retelling for you below, along with my review *and* a giveaway, so let's go!
About the Book
Tumblr media
title: The Sword and the Sophomore (The American Martyr Trilogy, Book 1) author: B.P. Sweany publisher: Th3rd World Studios release date: 9 July 2024
"Terrifically entertaining! ...a whirlpool of teenage hormones, high-school life and Arthurian magic. Hilarious and engaging!" — Diana Gabaldon, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Outlander series Arlynn Rosemary Banson is an atypical sixteen-year-old—the cool, popular outsider, effortlessly straddling the line between divas and dorks. Her forever young mother, Jennifer, is dedicated to making her life awkward by trying to be her friend. Her father, Alan, is a workaholic history professor who barely acknowledges his family’s existence. Her boyfriend, Benz, the quarterback and homecoming king, has just broken up with her, while her best friend, Joslin, bears reluctant witness to Rosemary’s romantic drama. But nothing prepares any of them for a Welsh foreign exchange student named Emrys Balin. Emrys looks like a teenager, but he seems to act much, much older. Rosemary discovers she is part of the Lust Borne Tide, children born to the royal line of King Uther Pendragon who are imbued with mystical powers after being conceived in lust. Rosemary’s parents are Guinevere and Lancelot, banished by King Arthur to twenty-first century suburban America prior to Rosemary’s birth as punishment for their affair. Rosemary is the third in the Lust Borne line, after King Arthur and his son Mordred, the latter of whom has traveled to the future to continue the line of the Lust Born Tide by retrieving Rosemary and returning her to the late fifth century to conceive a child with her. But Rosemary has other plans—plans that involve training under Emrys and kicking Mordred’s butt, as long as it doesn’t interfere with prom or getting back with her boyfriend Benz. Packed with action, emotion, and humor, The Sword and the Sophomore goes beyond the Camelot you know with an Arthurian tale fit for the modern world. Combining sword fights and epic quests with the real-life teenage issues of fitting in, sexual agency, and profound personal loss; this fresh take on the classic story of what it means to wield Excalibur and all the power it entails will make you rethink the power of legend.
REVIEWS:

"Captivating worldbuilding and an irresistible main character. I couldn't put it down."— A.G. Riddle, internationally bestselling author of The Origin Mystery Trilogy and The Lost Colony Trilogy

"Dark forces from an ancient world descend on a high school near you. The Sword and the Sophomore is funny, scary, astute, and up-to-the minute. The pages turn themselves and you'll be cheering the unforgettable heroine on every single one."— Peter Abrahams, New York Times bestselling author of the Edgar Award-winning young adult mystery Reality Check and the Agatha Award-winning Echo Falls series for younger readers

My 5-Star Review
Okay, so admittedly, I didn't know what to expect with this book. It's a debut author and a publisher with whom I wasn't familiar, but I saw the summary and thought it sounded like something I'd like and figured I'd try it out. And let me just say -- are you kidding me?? I was kind of knocked off my socks by just how good this was and how much I loved it! The writing was top-notch and seamless, the action was non-stop, and the characters were amazing. If I hadn't known from the jacket that the author was a man, I would've sworn that it was a woman based on how accurately the main character is drawn. How does this man so easily get into the mind of a 17-year-old girl? I'm not sure, but it's kind of awe-inspiring! I fell in love with every single character, I laughed out loud, I cheered at the sex positivity, and I even bawled, y'all. I was *not* expecting to bawl!
There is so much to love within these pages, and I'm already excited to see what's ahead in book two, while thrilled that book one gave me a complete story. I'm so impressed with this being the author's debut! Granted, he's worked in publishing for some years, but still, what an accomplishment. I love the imagination! If you're at all a fan of Arthurian retellings, you've got to pick this one up! Or if you like YA adventures, stories of high school life, or urban fantasy -- please, please snag this one! I really recommend it and hope that it reaches a lot of readers! I promise you that reluctant readers would love this one, too.
Clearly, I loved this one, and if you end up reading it please do DM me and let me know your thoughts! Thanks so much to the publisher and author for sending me a copy, and to them and Rockstar for having me on the tour. What a blast I had reading this!
Rating: 5 stars!
**I received a copy from the publisher for purposes of this blog tour. This review is voluntary on my part and reflects my honest rating and review of the book.
About the Giveaway
One (1) lucky winner will receive a finished copy of The Sword and the Sophomore by B.P. Sweany! These are gorgeous books, my friends! This one is US only and ends 23 July, so get your entries in!

Emry shakes Felix’s hand with a smile. “Thank you! Your castle is beautiful!! And thank you for joining inviting me. I’ve never thought I’d be going to a Ball at a castle one day.” She lets Felix go back to the rest of his guests before starting down the stairs, her face brightening into a smile when she catches sight of Chan running up the steps.
“Hi handsome,” she replies back to him, and she means it. It would be hard to lie about that with him all done up in his suit. “This is so cool,” she whispers, still taking in her surroundings. “You win the award for coolest friends I think.”
🍓
Chan chuckles, "Me? No way" He said with a big smile trying to play off your compliments, "Thank you hehe, I guess the suit does help me look better" Chan completely defecting your comment about his appearance, he couldn't be that handsome right? At least, that's what he thought. "It is nice though yeah? The castle is beautiful and a little overwhelming" He helped you down the staircase, intertwining your hands before placed a soft kiss on the back of yours, "You really look beautiful Emry, thank you for coming" The wolf smiled "Do you um . . . do you . . . want to dance?" He asked hesitantly with a shaky voice "If not that's okay, we can do whatever you want, something more fun" Chan slightly rambled, wanting to seem "fun".

In Yvette R. Murray‘s Hush, Puppy she becomes one with the Port City. This collection is a direct address, a love letter to Charleston from the black hand side. The poet takes readers on an intentional trek, while brilliantly negotiating the past, the present, and the future. With her, we leap the expanse from the Cypress tree centerpiece/ casting Gullah Geechee shadows/since 1685 to seeing the whole if only you would look. With these poems, we cannot look away. Our hearts become our ears as she rings the bell with her poetic manifestos.
–Glenis Redmond, Poet Laureate, Greenville SC
Hush, Puppy rocks, dances, strides, kicks, prances, and taps across pages that can barely contain such rich music. It is replete with heritage, history, family history, today’s news, and some language of the future not quite heard yet. But Yvette R. Murray hears it and gets it down pat. While you are nodding and tapping your feet you won’t notice her mastery of contemporary forms and methods like the ghazal, the pantoum, the bop, and the contrapuntal poem; you’ll be too busy enjoying these poems that you could almost dance to.
–Richard Garcia, Author Of Porridge
Yvette Murray offers a collection that is so shrimp and grits, so Gullah, so Battery, so Charleston. She invites us to taste, feel, and breathe her Charleston. She exercises her poetry muscles with traditional forms and lifts voices that Carolinians have heard all their lives. Let her be your tour guide through the pain and the joy. How grateful we are to share in her witness.
