re: my thoughts on laios’s sexuality (long post ahead lol)

let me start this post with this. first, this contains a lot of references to the new adventurer’s bible world guide book released last february. i can read japanese, but i’m sure they’re translated somewhere. general spoiler warning in case. also… i am ESL, so sorry for any grammar errors

second, if you’re on the team that insists laios doesn’t care about humans enough to form relationships, either read the manga again or at the very least read this thread.

last, please don’t chime in with your acearo headcanons on this post. there’s already a majority of posts here that insist laios is acearo and that anything else is impossible. i don’t like it the same way i don’t like when someone declares they hc marcille as bisexual to a poster who reads her as lesbian. i already have enough people here who declare he’s ace on my own art. at least people on twitter of all places don’t do this sort of thing to me. nothing in this manga is canon, you can headcanon anything i won’t get mad if you hc him as bi or something. just. don’t be weird on my post.

okay. trust me, i love women, and i love the idea of making my favs women lovers but the idea of laios being gay really appeals to me because of his background. this isn’t fueled by yaoi since i don’t even ship the only m/m relationship i bring up here, i just think it adds a nice layer to his disconnect with his own humanity

i do think laios has a very abstract relationship with his sexuality for a multitude of reasons. he grew up in a very conservative backwater village. he has a hard time recognizing his own feelings towards others just as much as vice versa. i don’t really care for the “laios is a monsterfucker” agenda people are pushing but i do think he’d engage in sexual thoughts in his own weird way, i won’t deny his deviantart fetish shit

as an autistic person myself, i relate to how he’d prioritize his special interest over social interactions. after all, he was fixated on monster food so he’s distracted from dark thoughts. he’s not an actual glutton

he’s shy around women, but i don’t think it’s out of attraction. i just think it’s because he’s awkward and doesn’t want to be seen as a threat. there’s a couple of times when, out of armor, he deliberately tries to make himself look smaller and nonthreatening.

he didn’t show any interest towards ashivia (the hubby hunter girl marcille replaced) and just humored her because she wouldn’t leave him alone. his other party members thought he was giving her special treatment so he had to tell her he “doesnt want to give her special treatment anymore”(even though he never did), so she left

ashivia did her best to butter herself up to laios and he didn’t care, but laios thought shuro was his bestest friend in the whole world because he was too much of a pushover to reject him. ironically… what ashivia did to him parallels what he was doing to shuro

also… yeah sorry i keep bringing up that one comic of laios saying if he were falin he’d marry shuro and then begging him to take him back to his country, or that comic of laios wondering why he doesn’t like him(and then the first two questions he asks the magic mirror was what if he or shuro were women). i don’t even ship them! but it’s not a reach to assume that he likes men because of this, even if it’s kinda played like a joke(after all,a lot of people like chilshi even though their ‘shippy’ interaction was played as a joke)

of course, given the setting, i don’t think knows he’s gay, he wouldn’t have the vocabulary to label himself. i do want to dance around with the idea of him forcibly confronting his own sexuality after years of yaad pressuring him to produce heirs lol. laios might not be cishet but he’s a king so he rdgaf about that right now. i’m open to him having female consorts for political reasons, but i don’t think he’s into women, is all.

before anyone brings up his succubus… god forbid an author makes hetbait. a part of the plot twist was that not-marcille wasn’t the only succubus enticing laios, his other party members were copied too. she was the only one who approached him. also… succubi aren’t always inherently romantic. once it realized marcille didn’t work, it switched to appeal to his desire to be a monster.

Autistic Andre Headcanons

(a long list because i love this headcanon)

- those stupid sunglasses aren’t just for style (thank god.) they’re also to protect andre’s eyes. he’s very sensitive to light and tries to avoid it whenever he can. when he’s inside, he never uses the main lights in his room, instead opting for lamps and other small sources of lights he can control.

- andre hates changes in routine. he feels like he’s out of control and like someone has went out of their way to mess up his day. it makes him uncomfortable and somewhat angry. an example of this is in the egging scene where cal tries to change the target of their attack. andre angrily says no and that they might ruin the campaign.

- andre has always been obsessed with guns and the army, even before zero day was even a thought in his mind. he would read books about both, constantly watch documentaries, and play with toy guns and little army men.

- ever since he was little, andre wouldn’t make eye contact with anyone. his mom and dad first thought he was just being an unruly kid or that he didn’t like them, but they soon learned they were wrong. at a checkup, the doctor mentioned how andre showed clear signs of autism and every thing fell into place.

- mel is a big source of comfort for andre when he gets overstimulated. he’ll hold her in his lap and pet her soft fur.

- andre likes to have pressure on his body. he has multiple weighted blankets and loves it when mel sleeps on his chest and makes soft biscuits on his stomach.

- his mom and dad were very pleased when andre started hanging out with cal. andre had never seemed too interested in other kids and when he was, the other kids would think he was weird. cal was different, though, and the two boys instantly clicked.

- understanding social cues and sarcasm is hard for andre, like genuinely impossible. he interprets a lot of things as bullying or being mean.

- andre and cal make cds for andre’s car for two reasons: they hate the music on the radio and andre likes to listen to some of the same music on repeat. also, he loves loud music. he’ll drive around alone some times just so he can blast music.

- andre takes his own lunch for school. he hates the uncertainty of lunch food from what’s in it to what they’ll be serving on a specific day. his lunchbox is black and quite small.

- cal is very touchy but understands that andre doesn’t always want that. cal asks before he touches andre and apologizes when he forgets to do so.

- on his sixteenth birthday, his mom bought him a strong cologne. he sprayed it on one day and almost had a panic attack. the smell was everywhere, and he hated it. he showered multiple times to get it off of him.

- some repetitive movements and noises andre makes include rocking back and forth, flexing and unflexing his hands, and making soft clicking noises.

There are many things that I dislike about the Ride the Cyclone fandom, and the one specifically that I wanna yap about is how some people see Mischa as a “dumb jock” like character. I wanna state my thoughts on it. He is most certainly the opposite of dumb. As we know, he speaks **4** languages. It takes a lot of skill to be bilingual, let alone in 4 languages. I see him more as someone who has a lot of potential and could most definitely get a scholarship, but he doesn’t try as hard as he can and instead likes to focus on his rap career. Even though he doesn’t try in classes, I feel like his average grades are F’s not because he sucks, but because he sometimes completely forgets to turn it in, or forgets about it in general due to heavily fixating on rap and his other passions.

Like a lot of people, I like to headcanon that Mischa is autistic, so I think of him more as someone who takes more time with picking up stuff socially and emotionally and not in a book-smart way. So when I say I think Mischa doesn’t understand the fact he’s bisexual and can’t grasp the fact he feels a small attraction to men isn’t because he doesn’t know what it is, but because he’s always seen himself as someone who’s attracted to girls, and the thought of going by a completely different label and sexuality is sort of intimidating for him in a way, especially for someone who seems to have fragile masculinity. Other stuff just clicks easier than others for him. For example, I like HC Mischa is Trans-masc. Before Mischa had his trans awakening, he still knew he liked girls. Since that was before he fully knew about labels and stuff, he didn’t mind the fact he was attracted to girls since it was nothing new. His transgender awakening and self-discovery is a whole other paragraph I can get into about my thoughts on the HC and what I feel like he might’ve gone through

I also heard another post mention how some people HC that he sucks at cooking while in reality that would also most likely be false for many reasons. For one being that he’s a major mama’s boy and probably would get a lot of skills from his mother, cooking being one of them. Two, he is very passionate about his culture and homeland, including the food there. He probably has memorized a lot of recipes from Ukrainian food to stay connected to his homeland. The reason I enjoy to HC the fact he mainly eats pizza rolls is because he doesn’t have access to ingredients, and well, a kitchen due to the fact he mainly has to stay in the basement and pizza rolls are quick and easy to make when being burnt out all the time since that can be an aftermath from being angry and enraged all the time. And for the people that do HC Mischa sucks at cooking, I’m not trying to go after you completely, I just love talking about RTC and love to find reasons to write about it. I myself also have HC’s that make 0 sense when looking back on the actual lore, so take what I say with a grain of salt:3!

Okay, Neilson . He is very very sheltered kid. If it’s not in a book or an educational video he does NOT know it. He has everything done for him , mainly out of safety . Neilson also doesn’t.. have alot of outside knowledge. His only talked to his Dads, his baby sitter Bonnie , Max , Pikeman, and Nikki. His dad’s friends.

He’s very silly, curious, a bit blunt, a dreamer, and he’s very book smart but not smart with other things. (Never getting taught how to talk to people or deal with situations ) His one goal in life is to go and do something with it!! He doesn’t want to be restricted by his Dads or his health issues!!! He wants to travel the world! Discover new dinosaur bones!! See to the ocean! Go to the grocery story without a child leash! Even going to the park would be a milestone for this kid.

Touching on his medical stuff. He is VERY fragile. He born in a tube and was technically a failed clone. Neil did this illegally. So. He didn’t come out perfect. He has very fragile bone (will get worse with age) , bruises easily, has like a MILLION allergies (to name a FEW is grass, pollen , strawberries, peanuts, apples, a lot of medicines , ect) , he even has asthma!! Not related to this but he is autistic , that’s just from Neil and Aj though! Thankfully no anxiety :))

Neil is a helicopter parent (like in the show) who is very scared of his kid getting hurt and not being at his greatest potential. Neilson gets bored easily and tends to push Neil’s rules to the limit without “technically” breaking them and it makes Neil go BONKERS.

To counter Neil’s over protectiveness Aj (sk ) would let his kid do his own thing. He’s fun and relaxed! Type of guy to really get into playing make believe. He wants Neilson be able to grow into his own person! The downside to being the fun parent is that he isn’t taken seriously. With anyone. So when he needs to put his foot down it won’t go super smoothly

Some fun facts!

-Neilson has a pet Komodo dragon! Neil absolutely hates it and Aj can’t say no to his kid. The only reason Neilson is alive is cus it loves him

-He learns alot of “bad stuff” from Max and Nikki. They are HORRIBLE influences on him

-Neilson will make up an answer if he can’t figure it out. Which was hilarious when he cried about Aj eating hot sauce cus it would “hurt the baby “ (Aj is just fat)

-Neilson has a multitude of jobs he wants. Most notably a Zoologists or a Paleontologists.

-His very first friend is his baby sitter Bonnie :) He sees her as a big sister and learned alot of his social skills from her.

-Neilson will attend Camp Campbell eventually. By some MIRACLE. He will be put into First Aid Camp even though he was promised he’d get to pick what camp he wanted

-Neilson constantly questions everything. And it’s annoying.

-He longs to go outside and will sit on his Window sill to imagine what it’s like

-The whole family was inspired on old family sitcoms like Full house or Roseanne.

Aemond x Reader who uses sign language

This idea is so random but I refuse to back down from it, hear me out…

Disclaimer: I’m not deaf, nor am I completely mute - I have been learning British Sign Language, however, as it’s part of Makaton which can be used by autistic people like myself. However, because this is Westeros, there’s no official sign language and so I haven’t described the signs in great detail

When Aemond first meets you, he’s taken aback by how attractive you are, so he immediately goes to speak to you - only to be confused when you just smile bashfully at the sight of him but don’t say hello back

One of your friends has to explain to the Prince that you don’t speak (they quietly explain the reason so that no one else overheard), and that you use your hands to communicate. You’re a little afraid then that he’ll be disgusted by you or think that you’re deficient in some way, that you’re incomplete

Yeah, no, you couldn’t be more wrong about that

For one thing, Aemond is a scholar: he has studied many languages, though none more so than High Valyrian of course, and so he’s of course intrigued to learn that there’s a language that doesn’t involve speaking aloud, that people can use their hands to speak instead. While he thinks it must take longer, he also muses that it would be interesting and also helpful in certain situations to not have to use a voice to communicate

Secondly, Aemond is all too familiar himself with people thinking him deficient - people still shudder when they talk about his eye, even though he makes sure to wear the eyepatch all day and to never remove it unless he’s alone in his room. He knows what it is to be treated like he’s lesser, to have to work harder to overcome a disability - and he immediately sympathises with you

Aemond begins researching, seeing if there are any books on the subject of using hands to speak, but the information out there is extremely limited - so it makes sense, of course, that he go to you directly to learn first hand

At first you’re shy and a little scared because what would the One-Eyed Prince want with you? But to your surprise, he does his best to be reassuring, and he eventually gets across to you that he actually wants to learn some of the hand movements so that he can speak to you properly

As I said, Aemond is a dutiful pupil - he picks up on it faster than most others might

Some are relatively easy to remember, he finds; hello is a gentle wave, thank you is moving a hand down from the chin and bowing the head… he laughs softly when you grin and show him that “dragon” is miming blowing fire with your fingers acting as flames. Others aren’t as easy, admittedly, but he practices long after your sessions together in the privacy of his chambers, usually using a mirror to make sure his movements are clear and fluid

Before too long, it becomes second nature to him; he immediately starts signing to you when you pass each other, saying the words out loud to himself even as his hands move gracefully. He really does have such beautiful hands, you often find yourself thinking, with such long fingers… that thought definitely makes you blush

You’re honestly touched by his efforts because no one else has ever tried this hard just to speak to you, just to understand you, and it makes your heart grow in your chest that Aemond would do such a thing for you

What’s even more surprising is that soon enough, Aemond even begins doing some of the signs without even thinking when he’s talking to other people - only a couple of basic ones like please and thank you before he realises what’s he’s doing and stops, but it still happens from time to time

Summary: Castiel is hanging out with Dean’s autistic child, and they have a lot in common.

Your dad, Dean Winchester, is out on a hunting trip with your Uncle Sammy. He left you alone with Castiel. You don’t know what Castiel is to your dad, they say they’re best friends, but the way they look at each other says more.

You didn’t mind being at the bunker with Cas though. Out of everyone, you got along with him the most. You had some sort of mutual understanding that Sam and Dean don’t get. You assumed it’s because Castiel didn’t know much about human interaction, social cues, pop culture references, and you were well, autistic. Your dad has made the joke that you and Castiel tilt your head the same way when you’re confused, and both don’t understand his sarcasm, and how even though your Dean’s kid, you’re a mini-Cas.

“So what are we doing today?” Castiel asks you.

“I know my dad is protective, but you really don’t need to babysit me, I’m 18. I am an adult,” you explain to Castiel.

“That’s not why he leaves me with you, he just doesn’t want you to get lonely.”

You nod, understanding. Today you’re probably going to do what you and Cas always do, exist next to each other while doing your own things. He’ll be reading something, you’ll be drawing something, and occasionally you two will look at each other, and ask how it’s going. It’s always worked that way.

And that is what you do today. You both go to the library together, Castiel picks out a book, you pull out your sketchbook, and you start doing what you learned is called “parallel play.” At least that’s what it’s called in kids, but you figured the term can be applied here too. You start sketching away as Castiel looks at you, narrowing his eyes.

“You wear that jacket all the time, why?” he asks.

“It brings me comfort. You wear that trench coat all the time, even indoors when you don’t need to. Why is that?” you throw the question right back at him.

“I suppose it also brings me some sense of comfort,” he concludes.

You nod, satisfied with his answer, and go back to sketching, as he goes back to his book. The only sounds filling the room are Castiel’s occasional page flipping, and your constant scribbling. This goes on for half an hour, only to be interrupted by your stomach erupting in hunger. Castiel does not say a word, as he gets up and goes to the bunker’s kitchen, and comes back with a prepackaged peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

“Oh thanks. When did we get these?” you raise an eyebrow.

“I got them the last time I went grocery shopping with your dad. He said you were having trouble eating because the foods we’ve been getting weren’t the right texture, and I remember when I was human I loved peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, you can never go wrong with them. But I know you sometimes just want ready made food, and when I saw these in the freezer section, I told Dean to get them.”

A smile comes across your face as you open the packaging and take a bite. These prepackaged peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were one of your safe foods, your other one being boxed mac and cheese. You bounce happily as you eat, something you do whenever you’re eating food you really like. And if it’s super good, you’ll kick your feet a little too.

You lick your fingers after you finish your sandwich, and sign “thank you” in ASL, something you do when you don’t feel like talking much. It’s a thing you do with everyone, you’ve taught them basic signs like “yes” or “no” or “please” or “thank you” or “food” or “water” to communicate when you don’t feel like talking.

“No problem,” Cas responds, smiling at you.

You nod and get back to your little activity while Castiel gets back to his. The silence is nice, you get to focus on you sketch, which is a picture of Castiel sitting down in his chair, reading. You occasionally glance up at him, getting the details you need, but you’re not going for realism. You have your own cartoonish art style and you’re drawing Castiel in it. Once you finish, you show him, and a big smile appears on his face as he puts down his book.

“You drew that? That’s me,” he says, and you nod. “I love it.”

You smile and start putting your art supplies away, as he goes back to reading. You clean up your space and put everything back in your room, before returning to Cas. You look over his shoulder at the book he’s reading, trying to not disturb him. He flips through the pages as he reads. But the page flipping and the silence get too much.

“Dicks out for Harambe,” you blurt out, not thinking.

Castiel once again sets his book down, this time not intending to pick it back up, as he looks up at you concerned. You didn’t think before speaking, but being on the internet you hear this phrase a lot. So you said it, and now Castiel is concerned.

“Who is Harambe and why are we exposing ourselves for him,” Castiel asks.

You think for a moment, wanting to answer him, but there’s no way to answer him without sounding stupid and insane. You take a deep breath, giggling a little at the thought of explaining “dicks out for Harambe” to Castiel.

“It’s an internet thing. This gorilla, Harambe, was killed, so we uh, expose ourselves, as you put it, to pay respects to him,” you attempt at an answer but Castiel furrows his eyebrows, getting even more confused.

“How is that paying respect?”

“Well it isn’t… it’s a joke…”

“I thought jokes were supposed to be funny,” he bluntly says.

“It is… to younger people I guess,” you shrug.

“And you said it because…?”

“I said it to fill the silence.”

Cas takes a moment to think, nodding, taking in what you just explained. He then takes his phone out and types away and you look at him, waiting for him to say or do something. He pats the seat next to him and you sit and look at his phone. It’s one of those fruit sensory videos on TikTok that you got Castiel into. Not the baby videos(well they are the baby videos) but the ones to popular music. You and Castiel watched as blueberries and strawberries bounce around the screen to Lincoln Park’s “Numb.”

“Why are we watching this?” you finally ask.

“You seemed like you needed something stimulating to watch or listen to,” Cas answers you.

“That reminds me,” you say, running to your room to grab something quick.

Sam and Dean walk into the bunker, and as soon as they see everything, they just look around, confused. The ground is covered in bubble wrap, and the map table is full of Pop-it fidgets. You look up at your uncle and dad, as you and Cas run around barefoot on the bubble wrap, playing with the fidgets.

“What are you doing?” Dean asks.

You look up at him, with an innocent smile on your face.

“Five gum!” you yell at him, throwing a pop-it fidget at him, and he catches it. “Stimulate your senses!”

“I think they are making a joke, because this is a way to stimulate our feeling sense, which is something people on the spectrum often do,” Castiel explains to Dean.

“Yeah, I know what they meant, Cas,” Dean chuckles. “You two have fun while we were gone?”

You and Cas both nod.

I believe Snape is autistic

(FYI: I’m autistic myself and I have autistic children.)

He’s lonely. He doesn’t really have friends. We know of Lily, we also hear about Lucius Malfoy, but we don’t really see their friendship which in my opinion is much less close than fans believe. As a student he’s so alone that no one but Lily tries to stop the bullying.

He doesn’t participate in any social meetings. He’s quite miserable during the Christmas in Harry’s third year. He patrols the corridors and the grounds instead of attending the Yule Ball. He doesn’t stay for dinner after the Order meetings. He only attends the DE meetings because he has to.

His peers at school think he’s weird. Lily’s friends from Gryffindor don’t understand why she’s friends with him. When Harry asks why the Marauders bullied him, Sirius says he was different, weird, he was an "oddball". Autistic children and teenagers are often bullied because they are perceived as not normal, awkward, weird.

He doesn’t make a normal eye contact, he stares a bit too much. It can be partly explained by Legillimency, but he stared too much even as a teenager.

There’s a difference between how he speaks as a teenager and as an adult. It doesn’t sound entirely natural, he definitely had to put effort into that. It’s partly because he doesn’t want to sound like a poor man with a northern (?) accent, but autistic struggle with fluent communication may also be a reason.

He insists on precise definitions: Legilimency is not mind-reading, ghosts are not transparent but they are imprints of departed souls. He’s irritated that Harry has "no subtlety" and he doesn’t "understand fine distinctions".

He’s quite rude. He might be just *evil*, but he may just not fully understand how cruel he actually sounds. From his point of view he’s just honest and doesn’t beat around the bush. OK, maybe he’s a little mean, but not cruel… right?

He uses sarcasm (a lot of autistics actually do), but he doesn’t really appreciate Harry’s and other people’s sass, he treats their words too seriously.

He usually speaks coldly / calmly / without much emotion.

He’s usually dispassionate, he has limited facial expressions. Many autistic people also have a "resting b!tch face" unless they try to look more "normal". Perhaps he isn’t always as hateful as Harry thinks, perhaps it’s just his face.

He seems a little oblivious to other people’s emotional state and seems to analyse their behavior more intellectually.

He has special interests: Dark Arts / DADA and Potions.

He has his own collection of Potions ingredients, including rare ones, collection of weird jars (I guess they may contain some Potions ingredients, but also he may like them because of visual stimming aspect) and vast collection of books at home.

His Potions ingredients must be very orderly, he knows immediately that something is missing and what it is.

He "loves" rules. Students are breaking the rules? He takes points or gives detention. The Marauders are bullying him? He wants them expelled. (While Harry deals with the bullies on his own.) He’s caught Sirius whom he believes to be responsible for Lily’s death? He’s going to hand him over to the Ministry and the Dementors. (While Sirius and Remus want to murder Peter themselves.)

Since Snape likes rules and order, Harry who is a bit wild and unpredictable annoys him.

He doesn’t wash his hair as often as he should. It could be partly because of his poor background (he was neglected, he wasn’t taught to take a proper care of his hair, he didn’t even have a real bathroom as a child), partly because he has no one to look nice for, partly because of the Potions fumes. Autism might make him care less about his appearance. (He does care about hygiene though. Apparently he shaves regularly and Harry would certainly notice if Snape was dirty or smelly. His sallow skin and teeth have nothing to do with hygiene, it’s a result of his poverty and malnutrition.)

He stimms: He’s shredding leaves as a child. He’s flexing his fingers after the Shrieking Shack incident. During the Occlumency lessons he’s touching his lips with his finger while he’s thinking.

He has some sensory issues. He wears the same, a little baggy robes (they flutter as he walks). He’s sensitive to light: his Potions classroom is dim (it’s in the dungeons, but he could brighten it up with magic); he makes his DADA classroom dim, even though it’s no longer in the dungeons; when Harry comes to his first Occlumency lesson, Snape waits for him in a dark room. (You know, people don’t do things like that because they’re evil, it doesn’t make sense).

As a teenager he walks "like a spider" and generally he isn’t good at sports (we see him on a broom three times: in a memory of his unsuccessful flying lesson at school, being very pale and probably frightened after refereeing the Quidditch match in PS and trying to curse a DE and missing during the Battle of Seven Harrys).

John Nettleship whom Snape was partly based on was probably autistic.

(LIGHT SPOILERS) basically, he has a test that he needs to take in order to advance as a witch, and he keeps failing it because he cant perform properly while being watched by other people, even though he knows the "right" spells to use and why he's supposed to use them. on his third attempt of the test, he's prepared a "script" to use so that he can follow it and not worry about failing in the moment (in this case, his script is a hand-written book of the proper spells to use and the order in which he's supposed to use them), but when a part of the exam changes, he's no longer able to follow his script. because he's been taught all his life that there's only one proper way of doing things, his way of thinking is very rigid and he's not able to deviate from his plan without panicking. luckily, one of his fellow examinees (richeh from the autistic anime girls poll 💕) is able to convince him to try and change the way that he does things to something that is more attuned to his personal needs- basically change the way that he casts his spells and which spells to use so that he doesn't need to struggle with doing things in the way that everyone says that he should; the way that he cant seem to manage. but, even before richeh helped him with that though, he was still finding way to modify the "proper" spells a little bit to better suit his weaknesses. he was trying so hard to fit in to the mold that witch society gave him, but it just wasnt right for him and he was making it work however he could."

Plus he’s a little TOO normal, to the point where it circles back around to making him the odd one out, which is absolutely what masking feels like for me. i think in the beginning baby wayne talks more around big wayne. we know he’s autistic and not so vocal at the start and eddie is a little upset because he feels like he’s doing something wrong that his son doesnt talk so much around him 🥺

love this, and i’ve mentioned before that when he’s baby/toddler/little he really only talks when he’s pressured (doesn’t like that though, leads to breakdowns) or around penny and big Wayne and of course you noticed because you’re such a MOM!

Eddie and Penny are besties, so he was expecting it to go the same way with Wayne, but when he doesn’t start talking to him, he gets concerned. He doesn’t get hurt and upset until he learns that Wayne can and does more than a couple of words here and there, more than grumbles, but not with him, not unless there’s no other way he can get Eddie to know he wants or needs something and he’s usually frustrated when he resorts to talking to Eddie (be it baby babble or words). One day, he picks him up from big Wayne and Maude’s hears him babbling a little more than he normally does to his grandpa, and he’s more vocal with the sounds he makes too (because he’s still not good with words yet).

Then on the way back home, nothing. A couple of noises, and some pointing. But he’s quiet.

It’s definitely something Eddie cries over a couple of times, and reader too, just because they don’t know why their baby won’t talk to them, but after the initial concern, they just want him to be happy and know he can trust them so they work with it. They make sure he knows it’s okay to be different, he doesn’t have to talk if he doesn’t want to and they work on different ways to open up communication. Eddie gets him a little American sign language book for when he doesn’t want to tell Reader or Eddie anything but he still needs something, and they all learn some of it together. Penny is more than happy to speak up for her brother, she can read him like a book even when he’s not talking. They don’t force him to try to change, in fact they reinforce that he’s perfect. And with all that care, love, and all the effort Reader and Eddie put in to making sure they understand him no matter what he’s saying and how he says it, he gets more comfortable with talking around them as he learns to talk and being verbal with them. Though, he does have his days where he’s just non-verbal, but he always knows that’s not at all a problem for his mom and dad.

Avana Crane

- works for the Neverseen as a double agent for the Black Swan. Works for the Black Swan as a double agent for the Neverseen. Both organizations think they are on their side. Only she knows what side she is on… and even then, she’s not really sure. She just wants change and knows one way or another, one of these groups will eventually succeed.

- she hides the fact that she ever manifested an ability so no one can prepare for what she can do. She uses the fact that she is “talentless” as her reason for distrusting the council to get both the neverseen and black swan to feel sympathetic for her. (She is a mesmer. Her chaos capabilities with this being a secret are impossible to match.) I headcanon that neither organization ever had a real reason to probe her mind, but if anything about it comes up in her memories when someone looks through her mind, she blushes and says she always daydreams about having this super powerful special ability since she never got one, and since she’s seventeen and there’s no reason for them to assume she’d hide an amazing ability during a time of her life when she should want to be accepted, everyone just goes with it.

- Never really works close to Sophie and her friends in the black swan, but gets to know Keefe while he’s with the neverseen. He’s really bad at pretending he doesn’t care about the Moonlark, but as someone who is playing both sides expertly, Avana can’t judge him… she does MAJORLY ship Sokeefe though.

- Mr. Forkle absolutely knows she has loyalties all over the place. He also knows she has a special ability. He shares this information with no one because he is very impressed with how effective she is at making things happen and doesn’t want to jeopardize that—and she clearly meant it when she said “I will do everything in my power to help my world” when swearing fealty. He is the ONLY one who knows. Nobody with the neverseen has a clue.

Kaslyn Crane

- Avana’s little sister (fourteen years old)

- Beguiler & Polyglot

- mainly exists to give Avana a reason to burst into tears and play the “I just want the future to be better for my sister” card with both rebel groups (despite the fact that her sister is… three years younger than her) and to be Timon Kester’s eventual love interest!

- has an impossible crush on Keefe Sencen. Avana has heard his name multiple times out of the mouth of her little sister by the time she meets him with the neverseen, which is part of why she’s so quick to trust him. However, Kaslyn is more than aware that he’ll never love anyone but Sophie… she just deludes herself sometimes!

Timon Kester

- Timon was adopted by his aunt and uncle after his parents decided they didn’t want him anymore. He manifested as a polyglot at age 13, and his parents said this was an essentially useless ability on its own. Timon didn’t want to stay with them anyway. They were the worst

- Timon and Kaslyn are good friends and talk to each other in other languages just to mess with their friends. Timon likes Kaslyn a LOT, but Kaslyn is, as previously mentioned, hopelessly in love with Keefe Sencen (who barely knows she exists). Timon wonders if he should start acting out bc of home troubles… maybe that would get Kaslyn’s attention…

- Timon sorta wants to join the Black Swan after hearing little stuff about it since it’s become sorta mainstream to know about it by nightfall. He’s like hey that’s cool, I like what they seem to stand for… however the ticket in at this point seems to be having a shared traumatic experience with Sophie Foster and Timon has zero idea how to get one of those

- Timon thinks Kaslyn’s older sister is REALLY sketchy, but he can’t say that because he’s afraid of seeming prejudiced against talentless people. Avana gives him weird vibes though.

Haylyn Zuni

- Haylyn is a hydrokinetic in level one at foxfire that Linh has taken under her wing

- She is eleven and also is VERY young to manifest. Linh recognizes herself in Haylyn and bonds with her quickly, helping her control her powers

- Haylyn asks Linh about joining the black swan exactly once. Linh says it involves a lot of almost-dying and Haylyn goes back on this, saying she’s happy to support the black swan but definitely doesn’t need in on the almost-dying thing.

- Haylyn thinks Marella is AWESOME. Since Linh and Marella hang out a lot, Haylyn sees Marella around quite a bit. One time, Haylyn tells Marella how cool pyrokinesis, and how part of her wishes she got to be a pyrokinetic. Marella is absolutely shellshocked and realizes that the prejudice against her ability isn’t being taught as strongly in school as it used to be, and that real progress is being made. Haylyn tells Linh that she’s glad she’s a hydrokinetic though because it means she gets to play water with her. Haylyn is ADORABLE.

**side note: I characterized eleven-year-old Haylyn as VERY juvenile for someone who was currently eleven at the time. I am… sort of thrown off by this??? Like I LOVE Haylyn, but come on Little Katie, you were literally her age…**

Danisa Madella

- Danisa is Haylyn’s friend her age!!

- she hasn’t manifested an ability yet but when she does, she’ll be a shade—which will throw everyone way off because she’s the most bright, sparkly person ever

- she’s super optimistic and fun and upbeat. She loves swimming with Haylyn because Haylyn makes a bunch of pretty shapes in the water

- Elvin vsco girl energy **STOP I FORGOT THAT WAS A THING**

- Danisa looks up to Sophie Foster a LOT. She’s her role model. She daydreams about finding out she’s actually going to manifest five abilities so Sophie can have a Moonlark friend, and that one day the black swan will tell her she is special and invite her to come risk her life for their cause!

- Danisa and Haylyn are friends with Galin Kester (also not yet manifested but will be a telepath, maybe I’ll make a bio for him if he becomes more relevant in my headcanon) who is Timon’s cousin (but since Timon lives with his aunt and uncle, they’re like brothers) so Danisa sees Timon a lot and has him teach her languages. She doesn’t tell him why she wants to know as many languages as possible, but secretly, she really wants to impress Sophie one day if she joins the black swan.

The Groups

- The Danisa-Haylyn-Galin friend group makes elaborate plans about how they’ll casually insert themselves into enough conversations to worm their way over to sitting with the Black Swan affiliated elves at foxfire. They never execute these plans.

- The Kaslyn-Timon-Shanla friend group consists of many of Shanla’s schemes to set Timon and Kaslyn up together. (Shanla is a guster and has even resorted to literally having the wind knock Kaslyn off her feet before. Timon forgot to catch her so the whole thing failed)

- Kaslyn and Avana used to be closer, but now that Avana graduated from Foxfire, they don’t see each other as often. (This is possibly because Avana is busy with her extreme quadruple agent scheme)

changbin- he kinda feels bad. he knows it’s hard for you and it was even hard to tell him. he starts thinking back to all the times he might have been to forcefully affectionate or loud. he starts to become more aware of his behavior around you and wants to do his best not to trigger anything. it starts to feel a little weird between you for a bit just bc he’s SO worried about hurting you somehow that you have to end up having a conversation with him to chill out. he comes around though and chan helps him get some resources to help him understand things better.

hyunjin- he’s kinda surprised actually. you tend to mask a bit more or he just thinks some of the things you do are just cute little quirks so when you tell him it just takes him by surprise. immediately starts reading more books about it and learning what he can. he listens intently to your experiences.

han- he was more concerned at first than anything. he never wants to see you hurt or upset and the only real representation he’s seen portrayed in media hasn’t been to accurate to your experience. so he really approaches things cautiously until he gets a better understanding of you. before he knows it he’s a pro at helping you in all the ways you need him to and handles some of the more stressful situations with confidence. 

felix- he just gets it. he seems interested in neurodivergence anyways so he’s always on tiktok relating to all the funny videos to the audhd experience so he’s v understanding and patient with you. never judges you when you do something a bit off the wall. wants to be a safe space where you can unmask more. whatever it is you need he gets it for you and if you ever need to be away from everyone he will provide you with that physical space. 

seungmin- he already knew. he can’t explain how but as soon as you tell him he’s like, “well, yeah…” he’s just super observant and notices things that most people don’t. after this conversation you think back and realize that he’s been adapting to you all along. he never really like skinship or affection anyways but he would notice the way one of the other boys would hug you and just make a mental note to respect you. he saw the way you’d react to other stimulus and note how you cope. he starts carrying noise canceling ear buds just in case or an extra pair of sunglasses. it’s just little silent things that let you know he’s paying attention and he cares to help accommodate you. 

i.n- he’s so curious. he wants to know all about you and what makes you tick and why you feel certain ways about things or react to things the way you do. he becomes more observant and tries not to do too much to make things overwhelming. he just wants to make everything feel as normal as possible since he’s been around you when your mind fights you and makes you feel super weird. he ask about how thing’s effect you personally as well as find resources to explain it more thoroughly from other autistics that may articulate some things better.

I just saw the post that somebody said about Annabeth and Percy dropping out of college and I totally see that.

Something that I see a lot, especially in fanfiction, is people forgetting that these 2 are neurodivergent and severely traumatized.

College is really hard. In general, for a neurotypical person, it would be difficult.

I'm writing this from an autistic, dyslexic, adhd, ptsd point of view. College is really fucking hard.

I've seen fics where people will talk about how they'll be taking 4-5 classes per semester. That's not really possible for them.

I have been taking one class a semester, and it is excruciating.

Granted, I do not go to New rome University, which is mainly demigods. So it might be tailored differently to how most demigods learn, but still, college is really difficult.

I could definitely see them trying college but taking it at a substantially lower pace than normal.

Like the original ask said, they might just drop out because it would be too much of a mental load.

Especially because of how soon the turnaround is from their severe trauma (tartarus) and them going to college. Even if they tried their best, they wouldn't do well. (This is also me speaking from experience. When I was going through stuff in high school, it made my gpa drop like a brick.)

I'm just tired of people acting like the only symptoms of their trauma is bad dreams and that their only symptoms of their adhd and dyslexia are "oh squirrel!" And not being able to read.

(Sorry for ranting. This is just kind of a sore subject for me. Especially recently, I have had to deal with some ableism from my professor, and I'm looking into transferring to a different college because of it)

i totally see where you’re coming from. college is really really hard on its own. being dyslexic, adhd, and traumatized does not help.

however, i really do not believe that they would drop out. the biggest reason being they are both so determined to get though it. and when those two are determined, nothing is stopping them.

you also have to remember that new rome university doesn’t just accommodate for kids like them. the university is made specially for people like them. most everyone there has adhd. most everyone there has dyslexia. and many of them have ptsd. and likely, the teachers and staff are demigods. so they are the same way, and therefore know how to teach in a way that actually works for them. also, new rome university is a very very small college, so the students would get a lot of one-on-one time with professors and counselors, etc. so i don’t believe their learning disabilities will hurt them very much there, because the entire system is built around them having those learning disabilties. you know?

but i completely agree with you that i don’t like how people downplay their trauma a lot. and rick riordan himself is the biggest suspect of this. in chalice of the gods, percy and annabeth are mainly just happy to be alive and having a good time, and percy only makes one passing remark about his mental state not being great. and i get why rick didn’t dive into it - he wanted the book to just be happy and silly and enjoyable. but still, i wish he would show how they’re coping a little bit more. in the bits i’ve seen of TSATS, sally mentions how percy and annabeth have horrible nightmares, which probably means percy wakes up screaming in the middle of the night. but like you said, ptsd isnt just nightmares. and adhd and dyslexia aren’t just cute little issues either. now, i will say, i don’t think their adhd is the same kind you and i have. theirs is more hyperactivity than anything. and while most people with adhd struggle with not being able to focus on one thing, i think with them it’s more that they are constantly focused on a million things (becasue that keeps them alive.) i don’t know why it matters, but i just felt like giving my thoughts on that lol.

i don’t even know what my point is anymore. basically i don’t think college will be as hard for them as you think, but i agree with you on everything else 😂

Flat affect — no explanation needed.

Stims: jiggling his watch, cracking his knuckles and other joints, pacing around.

This man cannot stand loud noises, though controlled loud sounds, like listening to his screamo playlist, is totally fine.

I firmly believe he sleeps like a dead person at an open-casket funeral. His bed sheet is in a straight line across his chest, with his arms lying flat on either side of his torso — Back Sleeper™️. Best believe he can't sleep unless his room is 18°C, with his bedsheets and duvet even on each side of the bed, and a fresh bottle of water on his bedside table (in case he wakes up and feels parched).

Whilst he isn't a fan of journals and diaries, Kento makes sure to regularly update his calendar on his phone, as well as the one attached to Outlook.

Spreadsheets and to-do lists, he thrives off of these. How else is he to keep up with life?

He is very aware of the fabrics and textures that make contact with his skin. This is why his wardrobe is predominantly made up of soft materials like cotton and cashmere. If he has to wear anything woollen, a lightweight layer of clothing goes underneath; he can't stand the itchiness.

Kento doesn't like mixing cold and warm food, and he tries his best to keep the food on his plate from touching each other (this doesn't apply to food like fried rice).

He irons his bedsheets and underwear — don’t ask. Kento also regularly washes his curtains and steams them once they’re dry (no creases, he hates them).

Exclusively purchases one type of deodorant; it has something to do with the smell and texture. He can’t stand aerosols because of the intensity of their smell (it gets into the back of his throat), and the gel deodorants feel uncomfortable on his underarms. Kento also isn’t a fan of perfume, though, there was one he liked that he stocked up on. Sadly, he hasn’t been able to find anything similar.

“Don’t come in the kitchen whilst I'm cooking.” — Kento to Satoru when he senses him about to step in. He can't share the space, it becomes claustrophobic.

Baking is his special interest; he has an absurd amount of information about this art form stored in his noggin. Dare I say he would own a bread encyclopaedia if it existed. Whilst bread is his favourite form of baked good, from time to time, he attempts to make confectionary, specifically those made of phyllo pastry. On the rare occasion, he might bake a pie or cake.

This man owns a lint roller because of his pet cats; he is not a first-time cat owner. Whilst his home is relatively clean, he can't help but feel the need to pick up those stray cat hairs. He doesn't want to accidentally get any in his mouth.

Speaking of his home, Kento's apartment is relatively minimalist, though the colour palette is warm and welcoming (lots of blues and browns). The only part of his home that is “messy” is one nook in his living room. The bookcase is overflowing with unread books, some sitting in neat stacks on the floor, whilst others are in cardboard boxes acting as surfaces for his potted plants. There are a few old newspapers and magazine recipes strewn on his desk, a cold cup of coffee, and two pen holders jam-packed with various dry markers and inkless pens. It's a sort of organised chaos.

He exclusively wears slippers and thongs/flip-flops indoors. He can’t stand walking around barefoot, it’s uncomfortable, and he doesn’t like his feet being cold or picking up any hair, lint, or crumbs that collect on the floor (despite his home being borderline sterile).

Is always very creative with them, to the point that the recruits all but pray for Alejandro, instead. -Despite being in the military, he has no taste for violence. He tries to solve things diplomatically instead. -Don’t be mistaken, though, he will knock your lights out if necessary. -Doesn’t mind doing the paperwork at the end of the day. Alejandro hates it, and no one has to know it’s him doing it. -Scary good memory. Everyone knows not to try to gaslight him because of it. It just does not work. -The higher ups have given up on trying to tell Alejandro to leave him at the base during meetings and missions. He will always come along. -Still enjoys his personal time. -Pretty much lives with Alejandro as he doesn’t have an apartment off base, never bothering to get one. -Can’t read for shit. If it’s longer than 10 chapters, he just will not pick it up. -Doesn’t prefer movies though. He listens to audiobooks. -Autistic, don’t question it. -Drives better than Alejandro, but doesn’t have a license. Alejandro does NOT know. -Seems like an open book, but he’s actually fairly private. -Clumsy but he’s managing it. -Head a minor head injury that he claimed was because his helmet got shot. Whether it’s Alejandro you have to deal with, or Rodolfo himself, it just never ends well for you. -People still, however, mess with Alejandro. 2 or 3 people have gone missing, that Rodolfo claims to know nothing about. He knows, though. He knows. -Was secretly super pumped to throw C4 at Graves. Was disappointed Soap got him, first. -Closer friends with Soap, than Ghost, but he’s one of the few who can tell Ghost what to do. -(Ghost is secretly a little afraid of Rodolfo, but will take that to his grave.) -One of the aforementioned people definitely did not go missing because they threatened to kill Alejandro and Rodolfo told Ghost to take care of it. (He gladly did, always looking for an excuse for murder.) -Everyone answers to Alejandro, but Alejandro answers to Rodolfo. Not on Rodolfo’s terms, but Alejandro is a simp for him because who could not be?? Look at him!! -A romantic. He loves fancy events. His favorite mission was going under cover at a gala. -Will hold his height difference with Alejandro over his head until he dies. -Wore lifts in his shoes one time to make it even more extreme, causing Alejandro to cuss him out. -It was playful, don’t worry. He keeps them in case Alejandro needs to be humbled. -Was Originally offered Alejandro’s station. This isn’t to say Alejandro is not qualified but of the two of them, Rodolfo was considered more levelheaded. -However, Rodolfo turned it down because he didn’t like calling the shots. -He did not, however, tell them to choose Alejandro. Alejandro was naturally just the second choice, and Alejandro holds no grudge over this. In fact, he tried to talk him into taking it, anyway. -Will one day leave the military (he will not. Alejandro gets into trouble too much.) -Terrified of fire, now, for obvious reasons. -Has had far too many near death experiences and my mans is tired of it.
