hello! I saw your post about the layers of hanfu, the one with the pants that tie around the waist. I really want to try to make them, but I can't seem to find a pattern. Is there a term for that article of clothing that I can use to search? Or better yet, do you have any pattern recommendations?

The name for that style of pants is (unfortunately) just "pants" (裤/ku in Chinese, which literally translates to pants).

I searched around for patterns and pieced one together (luckily it doesn't seem too complicated :D). You'll have to play around with the measurements so they fit you best, these were based on a video of someone who made this for a client (I'll link the video as a source but it's all in Chinese).

Here's some screenshots of videos demo-ing it (also linked in sources). The most important take-away I got is to make sure the width of the pant legs is enough to wrap ALL the way around your body and overlap in the back so your butt doesn't show xD

The earliest artefacts for this style of pants is the Han Dynasty (202 BC-9 AD, 25–220 AD), but it was also discovered in tombs of the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD), which had more samples and were better preserved (I heard in one Song tomb they found 24 pairs of pants, 15 of which were this style O.O). So all of these were made using the Song Dynasty version, but they look basically the same and were also worn as under garments.

Camus character analysis: games VS anime

If you finished the Uta no Prince-sama anime and your opinion of this man is "wow, he's kinda terrible," I don't blame you. in fact I've seen a lot of people say this

In this post, I want to talk about his characterization in the games and give my two cents on what the anime was trying to do with him, especially in his single focus episode Saintly Territory (S3E6).

The "be my slave" thing

Starting with Anime Camus's most egregious crime: treating Haruka like a servant/slave (however you want to translate it)

Basically in his focus episode, Haruka is tasked with writing a song for Camus. She wants to learn more about him in order to write it, but Camus will only let her follow him if she acts as his servant. She accepts without complaining, Cecil is rightfully angry, Haruka continues anyway and the song gets completed.

Now, am I about to say that Game Camus would never do this? No because he literally does lmao.

The anime doesn't pull this "servant" plotline out of nowhere, here's the context in his route:

Haruka accidentally overhears Camus talking about a plot to assassinate Saotome on the phone. When he notices that she heard everything, he basically tells her that he has to kill her now. But if she served him, he'd be able to keep an eye on her, make sure she doesn't leak anything, so she could escape death.

Okay uh "work under me or DIE" isn't exactly better, nor is it a good start to a love story, but I'm not finished!!

(A side note: I have to add that the anime made him look like an even bigger asshole and borderline dumb when it came to the things he made her do. Like he expected her to know that snapping your fingers means you want coffee without prior explanation. bro

^This might have been for comedic effect but I promise he can be actually funny and endearing.)

What the anime couldn't cover

The Camus episode wraps up with Haruka pulling through and writing a song that makes Camus "sincere," he says it's cool at the very end and that's the episode. I think the problem is that we technically didn't see him being sincere or what that even means to him, besides when he was singing (banger song btw)

It's a shame because in a 20-minute episode you really can't show the game experience of slowly piecing together what this man's problem is.

First of all, in Debut and AS you'll be quick to notice that he always has homeland and duty on the mind, constantly reminding himself that he's in Shining Agency/Japan for a reason, and it's NOT to have fun or make friends

The truth is, he slowly starts to appreciate the banter with his colleagues, music, and working there in general.

But because of his initial mindset, he has to rationalize & justify every connection he forms, like "it's just for work" or worse: "actually it was ALL A LIE and I NEVER ENJOYED A SECOND OF THE TIME WE SPENT TOGETHER, I'm such a great actor haha"

He uses that to fool himself and to push the other person away so it doesn't happen again. This scene is probably the best example:

He also does this in the Non-Fiction drama, which may or may not have actually happened, but I think it's still a pretty good reflection of what could happen in reality because he tells Ranmaru their bond was a lie, then mopes around in his guilt thinking about the good times and wondering why he's sad, and THEN later doubles down on the "it was a lie, I don't care about you" because he just can't let himself get attached to anything.

Basically, he's terrified at the thought of forming actual bonds because he genuinely thinks he's nothing if he stops being a cold weapon:

At one point he does admit he sucks (as a love interest)-

-which is pretty huge by utapri standards. I love these games, but the amount of times where a male lead does something icky, and everyone, including Haruka, acts like it's normal or like it's Haruka's fault is ehhh but I digress

Upbringing

Of course he's very proud of his homeland and status, but sometimes it's to the point of thinking he can't be anything other than his title. So why is he like this?

We got to hear about his childhood from Camus himself a few times, and it often ended with Haruka thinking "wait? that's kinda messed up?" and Camus insisting it's nothing/it's normal so yeah that's something...

His parents were in an unhappy arranged marriage, and his mother was forced to birth an heir which traumatized her so much that she can't see Camus without falling ill. Overall it's a pretty tragic situation since what happened to her was horrible, though not Camus's fault either. Even now she refuses to see him, and I wouldn't say that makes him sad because he never really met her, but simply knowing of her sacrifice probably adds a lot of pressure. As in, he only exists for this one purpose (inheriting his father's title and serving the country), so if he doesn't play his part correctly, it would have all been for nothing.

He was raised by his father not as a child or son but as the heir, always treated and judged as an adult (even during physical training apparently, make of that what you will)

When Haruka asks about childhood memories he has a very hard time finding something that doesn't have to do with his duties or the nation. And then admits he didn't truly have a "childhood" since he was never treated like a child

As for the queen, I think his love for her is sincere: she taught him a lot of things growing up, and according to him, she's also a victim trapped by her duties so he wants to ease the burden.

So hypothetically, if he found things or people that made him happy in Japan, he would feel obligated to lock them away because that happiness is incompatible with his life: he'll have to leave when his mission ends, he shouldn't be spending time on things that aren't "useful" as he doesn't have the free will to pursue them

In his mind he's completely tied down by the fact that he was born and raised for a single reason, and the fact that he does want to serve the queen.

Also it might sound ridiculous to bring his self-worth into question because of how pretentious he is, but I've counted a few situations where he seemed to have complete disregard for his own life, only worrying about Haruka and Cecil's safety in scenes when they were present. And he thinks wanting to be loved unconditionally is a childish thought he shouldn't have.

"Double Face" was a lie. There's like at least 10 layers

On the surface he does have two personas, his perfect polite butler act for the media, and his cold bitchy attitude off camera. But honestly, even when he's not acting as a butler, he's often putting up a front to hide any form of vulnerability (from himself as well)

His main struggle is finding who he is outside of what he's being told to do. Before, he never actually stopped to think about what he WANTS because it just never occurs to him, or if it does he ignores it.

That's why realizing that he has his own desires is essential to his character development, and him staying with Quartet Night (and Haruka in his routes) is so important. It's why Reiji feels the need to reach out and when he does, Camus either freezes up or tears up;

This all makes him the opposite of Ranmaru (being true to yourself and sincere), and similar to Ai (gradually learning to view the world in a less cold and logical way), but I kind of want to save that for another post lmao

He is especially hard on Cecil because Cecil says & does whatever he wants, and everything still works out for him, which is a way of life that Camus can't imagine for himself at all (despite maybe wanting it?)

That he can realize this and eventually admit out loud, despite all his pride, is also one of my favorite things about him

Season 2 does hint at something, so that's pretty cool!

Side note, I really love that his theme in the new Oracle series is "Change," the melting of ice.

So what was the anime supposed to do??

Of course there's no way to show all this in a single episode or even during the runtime of the anime, and I never expected them to because the story is very surface-level (that goes for all characters).

Okay I went full circle and went back to drawing fanart, but honestly I cannot be bothered to draw unless it's something I'm hyperfixating on and DE is giving me brain worms.

( See the mhau, which btw I'm going to revist in some way – as I told to a friend I'm not letting a 4 years long project rest to rot lol. It's probably gonna get turned into another original story, unrelated to jse and the other admins of the au out of respect.)

I'm trying to take in what this year has been artistically for me because as for personal growth it's a can of worms I don't want to open.

I think taking a break from fanart and posting art to do more irl art stuff did do me good for a while, but then I carried it on for too long and it did the exact opposite.

As for numbers go, I've had most of my hit posts (mostly qsmp on twt and tumblr and some mouthwashing stuff), which was super great for a bit until it quickly burnt out.

The thing with running art pages (I've made and deleted at least 10 art accounts, yes that is another mistake) is that it's almost impossible to have fanart and originak content coexist with the same engagment.

Anyways, still I feel like I still improved artistically and I finally let go of ibis paint to use csp, which has been great.

Obsessed with games about languages? Played one and crave infinitely more? Fear not, for I am here with a small handful of recommendations that will perhaps tide you over for a little bit before you start going crazy again!

This is a humble list of some games about linguistics or languages (or anything adjacent) as a main feature that I, a translator by trade, have played or heard about. Hopefully this is useful for anyone that's looking for new linguistic experiences!

Games I've Played

These are games I've actively played to full or near-full completion. They've all been great too btw.

Heaven's Vault

Oh boy, where to even begin talking about this game. Heaven's Vault is a game in which every single choice you make matters... and there's no turning back! This game is made to be replayed, as tedious as it might be to do so, and the lack of savefiles does hurt it a bit if you're as impatient and curious as I am. However, the story is so gripping and the twists and turns are so captivating that you just wanna keep playing to know everything!!

The story is simple on the surface: you're an archaeologist traveling across space with a simple goal: find out both what's going on with your curious companion and what has the Nebula in such a tizzy.

The artstyle is amazing, the game feels good to play, characters will remember every decision you've made and react accordingly... You might even discover a route so far from what you originally set out to do, it may derail your entire ending!

The language mechanic itself is fun, and figuring out the symbols and how they build on each other is incredibly enrapturing! Sometimes a bad guess can send you hurtling down the wrong path, but that's just life!

All you really need to keep in mind about this game is that two routes will never be the same... but they might be heavily similar. Or not. As long as you are aware that this is a slow-paced game with plenty of replayabilty, you're in for a fun, mysterious experience of trying to fit the jagged edges of the puzzle pieces together. And the picture they form is absolutely worth it.

Chants of Sennaar

Yeah, it's me again, Chants of Sennaar's #1 megafan. What about it.

CoS is perhaps my favorite game out of this whole bunch. You're basically dropped in a strange, unfamiliar place... and everyone speaks a language you don't understand! Through logic and experience, you'll uncover the meaning of all the words you've been hearing though the sunny lower floor of the tower... because of course, this is a tower!

Tongue-in-cheek Babel reference aside, you go through different societies, each with their own language reflecting it, in your efforts to reach the very top of the tower. The story is plural yet simple, with a central one revolving around your character and lots of small side stories that keen-eyed players will find a delight to uncover.

On the language side of things, well... Language is Sennaar is both a device to advance the story and a collectable of sorts. It is possible to finish the game with incomplete knowledge of all the languages, but filling your notebook with every single word is just so much FUN! Apart from that, many languages have certain patterns one might recognize - verbs or nouns or some words may be written in a specific way, which makes it easier to understand the meaning of some things.

I want to spoil this game as little as possible. This is a game that should really be experienced if possible, so this little overview probably feels somewhat lackluster... oh well! One thing that stressed me out BAD in this game -spoiler alert, I guess?- were the stealth sections (there's not that many, just two stressful ones near the beginning and at the very very end), but in retrospect they were not bad at all. Trial and error makes it all work, and to be fair this game is incredibly lenient when you get caught.

Also the ending's nuts and i've been rotating the main character in my head ever since i first played this. artsyle is so cool too. insane game please give it a chance.

Alright this one is for the true linguistic nerds out there. This is NOT a puzzle game. The other two games so far had puzzle and adventure elements, but this one? You only get two fucking things: a diary that updates as you go... and a weird screen with even weirder symbols.

You wanted a language to decipher? Well here you go! Learn this language. Use it to ask questions. Get answers. So on and so forth.

Sethian's language is impossibly interesting. This language doesn't take its grammar, syntax or stuff like that from English. Oh no. As the creator stated, it "borrows elements from Chinese, American Sign Language, and other real world languages, in addition to some features which have no real world counterpart."

Also, just as a heads up, you're not gonna get the meaning of every single symbol or word. Sorry. But let's be real - that's just true to learning any new language. Some things are better left as a mystery!

Sethian is not very long, but if you're into this language stuff it's honestly an incredible experience. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Cypher

This game is relatively similar to Sethian language-wise, even if it's not nearly as complex. Premise is as follows: you're helping a stranded space traveler make their way out of the planet they crashed onto... by acting as a translator between them and his local companion!

It's very fun and the way the language works is quite interesting, but don't expect much length or depth. Honestly, this is an amazing free game you can play if you want to scratch the itch a bit! ...Even if it might leave you itching for more. Oh, well!

The Gostak

This is the one exception: I still haven't finished playing this game. In fact, at the time of writing, I just started. But this 2001 text adventure is an absolute masterpiece. Difficult as fuck, but a masterpiece nonetheless.

This game does not have convenient graphics or a handy way to keep track of what you've learned. What I'm doing is taking out my notebook and my multicolored pen and getting to WORK. You have to discover, parse or even guess the meaning or function of words based solely on their relations to OTHER unknown words that you uncover... by using the same words you know nothing about! You are the gostak. The gostak distims the doshes. From there, it's all on YOU to not only understand what's going on, but also complete this adventure... because it IS an adventure!

Your goal is unclear at the beginning, but as you unravel the language and begin to understand your surroundings, you'll see more and more of this world. As mentioned before, this is a text-only game, which can be a turnoff for some people. I, however, would say that the joy of figuring out words and the relationships between them without even knowing what they mean is simply amazing.

Well. From what I know about this game, it's a threefold game: horror, language, and adventure all rolled into one!

The only reason I haven't played this game is because I despise horror games with all my heart. They make me extremely anxious and I just don't have a good time at all. Everything else about this game is screaming out to me - a developed language-learning/guessing system? A crazy point-and-click adventure with multiple endings and interesting character interactions?

I'd say that if you don't mind the whole horror side of things, you should absolutely give this a try. I'm afraid I can't say much else about this game!

All I know about this game is that you're given basically nothing to work with from the very beginning and that your interpretation of the language affects the story itself. Interesting concept!

This is just a soulslike! Maybe I'm just so bad at videogames I struggle to get past the beginning, but as far as I know I don't think the language is the main focus of the game. It is still a translatable, learnable language, tho!

Outer Wilds

Keeps the same feeling of "knowledge drives you forward" that Heaven's Vault and Chants of Sennar have, but as far as I know there's no language translation central to the game. I mean, there is, it's just automatic and you don't get to play with a new language. Amazing experience nonetheless! (I'm still yet to finish it...!)

Tork (Can you torque the talk?)

2004 flash game, but it is now sadly unplayable. It employed a language-learning system similar to Chants of Sennaar.

his name is Junk! Junk in fact consists of any sort of garbage, so you're right! it's everything man-made and inorganic that has ended up on the Road or left over from people absorbed by the Forest. Junk is literally a walking dump of broken road signs, car pieces left after car crashes, roadside cenotaphs, artificial flowers and wreaths, cigarette butts, food packaging, personal things from car glove compartments, etc.

when i came up with the idea of junk-consisted character in Tginf, i was thinking that all the garbage and litter on the Road had to go somewhere since the Forest can't absorb inorganic things (i guess). i thought, like, hey there's just have to be some junkyard with cars and litter left by travellers ended up on the Road. and there could be some folk who would be interested in keeping the Forest and the Road itself clean.

when i was sharing my idea with Arrimorr, she said he could be an Oxygen's follower. what i think: the Oxygen create things "out of nothing", and you know, a bunch of garbage is pretty much a material thing, but there can still be a chance she could create another being that would be used to "clear the environment and the air", since we talk about Oxygen. after all he could be just a place with all the "ugly" and inappropriate things Oxygen wouldn't want to see around. but it's just my thoughts, basically i let Arrimorr do whatever she wants to Junk (like it's just a guy i made inspired by her Tginf setting)

Junk's occupation is being something like a traffic cop on the Road (i couldn't find the way to translate his name in English in order to keep the pun, but the thing is that in Russian language the word meaning "garbage" is also how people call policemen). If ordinary police officers have flashlights, then Junk's flashlights are his eyes themselves, basically their role is played by two car headlamps. there's also two-colored emergency police lighting installed on his chest, you know, like a ribbon bar:

usually, Junk doesn't speak. he haven't got a mouth basically, but he came up with a way: if necessary, he can "speak" by cutting up words from different songs from music discs using a car radio. before he learned this communication, he just "shout" by activating the alarm or using car horns.

i was thinking he could have sort of a sword, which is basically a road signs post sharpen on the end, but now i don't think it's necessary since Junk is about 4-5 meters tall. also he can sort of "fall apart" and pretend to be an ordinary junkyard and then reassemble himself like a construction set (the lego they have at home..). and so he can literally use parts of himself as a weapon if there's a fight lol

by the way, due to his height, Junk can easily pick up radio signal, and he generally really likes listening to music through a radio that is located somewhere inside him.

excuse my being weird but i just wanted to say i ship Junk and the King of the Road🗣️🗣️🗣️ because Junk is literally a concentration of human creations, and the King is fascinated by humans as far as i remember. and King doesn't care it's basically just a garbage. i mean im dying when i think of Junk taking out of himself silly little human things and explaining it's meaning to the King (Junk listens to the human radio and music, the guy know what he's talking about). also i was thinking about Junk and Oxygen, how Junk do a "penguin pebbling" by bringing her nice shiny little things and she honestly doesn't find them beautiful but at the same time she can't reject them

I can't even begin to describe how jazzed I am that Berkly Catton got drafted to a team I already love. I wrote in my Sharks off-season roundup that I was hoping against hope Catton would drop to 14th overall (back before we had moved up to 11th) and the Sharks would snap him up, as unlikely as it was that they'd try to gather more firepower when we sorely needed defensive prospects. I'm so glad I got my wish one way or another <3

Krakenblr you will LOVE this dude. He's such a star. Such a character. Berkly Catton is so, SO fun to watch. You have no idea!!! I followed him in the months leading up to the draft because there was buzz that he might be available lower down because of the Height Issue (he is, tragically, 5'11 <- which makes him undraftable unfortch) + concerns with how his game will translate to the NHL level. He is an electrifying playmaker. He's so creative, throws in so many fakes, WILL break ankles, very good hands... ough <3 everything I personally love to see in a forward all rolled into one neat little package !!!

There's the suggestion that he's been "over-scouted," which really just means they've all been watching him so long they're probably overthinking things and looking for stuff to critique. I'm inclined to believe this take over the other one because I'm an optimist and he was one of my little guys going into the draft! I won't include more of that here, but there's plenty of material out there if you'd like to look for it.

I do love that throughout this interview, Catton defers to his linemates a lot. Always hyping them up and talking about how he owes his success to them. it could be construed as false humility, given Catton was the highest scoring draft-eligible in the league - but he really does go out of his way to emphasise how highly he regards them and how much of their on-ice success is owed to good chemistry built up over the entire season. It strikes me as genuine!! He's a good boy <3

ok so some of the history lesson portion of this may be a little off, it's been a hot minute since i've done much research into this lol. but final haikyuu quest first appeared as a spread in one of the bonus pages in the manga! throughout the manga's run were occasionally drawings of the characters in little fake movie posters, one of them being an action/fantasy movie called final haikyuu quest:

this first poster and the original character designers are drawn by furudate! from there, it went on to become a mini bonus game in the haikyuu 3DS game, which is kind of crazy if you think about it too hard.

there's a playthrough uploaded on youtube here, but it's obv in japanese and i don't think there's been a translation of the game. there's a translation of part of it here on tumblr, but i don't think it's complete. poster from the 3DS game:

from there, it went on to be a CD drama (videos 8-10 on this youtube playlist, with subs), which is super neat. it's also one of the haikyuu light novels, but i have yet to find a full english translation of that.

i haven't read the novel or watched the videos with the CD drama audio myself, so i'm not sure how much it differs from the 3DS game. i assume they're pretty similar though.

so the premise at its most simple is that hinata and his party of adventurers are off to defeat the demon king oikawa and his henchmen! those are the basics.

the "canon" characters in hinata's party are hinata, kenma, aone, iwaizumi, and kageyama. on the opposing side we've got oikawa (the demon king), kuroo, and kiyoko. kiyoko has servants in the form of tanaka and nishionoya (they don't care for oikawa, they're just there for kiyoko). there's also michimiya, who is in the "fair princess kidnapped by oikawa" role that hinata & co. are trying to save. the full character profiles can be found here (everyone in game) and here (heroes only)!

now this whole premise is like. a little silly. the whole deal is a little silly. this is a volleyball manga.

with THAT being said, though, sometimes the most fun to be had is when you take the silly thing and make it devastating. and it's so easy to do that with FHQ. so let's talk abt iwaoi now <3

so in the story, oikawa is the demon king. because the premise is so simplistic and boiled down to good v. bad due to, like, this not being a real piece of media, oikawa is objectively on the "bad side." iwaizumi, on the other hand, is a knight, presumably human, and "oikawa's (former) friend."

iwaizumi being oikawa's former friend is literally his speciality and i think about that all the time btw. for context, kageyama's specialty is "prodigy" and hinata's is "strongest decoy." and fucking iwaizumi is out here like yea hey guys i used to be on the bad side but im mad at oikawa so now i'm with y'all. also my specialty in this fantasy universe is that i used to be oikawa's friend :)

like. what the hell. as you may imagine, the iwaoi angst potential here is ENORMOUS. iwaizumi who has betrayed oikawa and joined the heroes' side to take him down, iwaizumi whose greatest strength comes in knowing oikawa in and out, because the villains you love are both the hardest and the easiest to destroy. iwaizumi who loves oikawa, and who cannot save him.

(**side note, there's a lot of kuroken angst potential involved in this au as well, but let's focus on iwaoi for this post and save kuroken for another day)

so, as i said, the game's interpretation of all this is pretty simplistic and pretty silly. but personally i love thinking too hard and finding depth in things that are so not that deep. and it seems like most fhq fans also employ this as a favorite hobby because holy shit the angst people put in this au is INSANE.

the way i've interpreted it myself has been that iwaoi were besties/lovers/unclear situationship until oikawa kind of "fell into the dark side," because this is an au of every fantasy trope possible, and his reign over aoba became corrupted and "evil." iwaizumi betrays him to join hinata and take him down--save the world, at the cost of the demon he loved so much. but that demon, who oikawa was, is gone already, isn't he?

one of my favorite comics about them is here by @/ichigomaniac, where oikawa falls to the dark side and iwaizumi kills him to save the kingdom he loves. another FAVORITE similar one is here by @/hawberries! the premise of a lot of fics/art in this au run along these lines <3333

another super fun interpretation is a 5 part comic by @/duskisnigh, where oikawa and iwaizumi are running a kind of underground rebellion/safehouse in a world demons are oppressed by the human race. but as oikawa sees more and more evil on the behalf of humanity, he gets more and more unhinged until iwaizumi feels that he no longer knows him--and runs away with kageyama, with the intention of taking oikawa down.

personally i think the BEST aus are where iwaizumi--so loyal, so in love--is forced to leave because he can't stand to watch oikawa fall to more darkness, while oikawa himself is so devoted to iwaizumi that it's his love for iwaizumi that is corrupting him.....

in the fic i wrote, it's a story about forbidden love and how oikawa just wants to be allowed to love iwaizumi and he'll fight a war in order to do it. but iwaizumi can't watch oikawa fight this war anymore, because he's getting more and more dark as the war rages on. so he leaves, and was any of this ever worth it?

I got some questions about GTOP dmed and thought, "Hey, these are pretty good, Imma make a post to make up for the fact that I don't post as much as I wish to! :)) Alllllll of this is me making educated guesses btw. a) So basically, I'd like to know about them from the start, before their debut? Were they dating at the time? Or did they start dating in 2010-11?

An anecdotal piece of advice; read Ruinwyn's fics, she spent a while researching GTOP to write her canon fics realistically and also has future telling abilities.

GD confirmed anecdote 6 himself via an Insta like (but a version where Ji held his hand and walked off instead of him holding his waist.. which just shows that these things can be true but are also over exaggerate a lot, like how 20 is possible because it can be that the fan account is over exaggerating this interaction) and confirmed other anecdotes from a few of the sources within this anecdote list + many of them are from reliable sources BUT! The disclaimer in the beginning is true, there are a few that aren't real yet get spread around (for example, 4... seriously, they'd never (imho).. and also they don't fight like cats and dogs, they themselves made it clear that their friendship was NEVER like that).

Also: YB posting this for the translator (not in relation to this post).. tears in my EYES so sweet (Honestly, if GD wasn't such a fabulous relatable honey bun, YB would've been my bias; the man he is).

But really, pre debut is mysterious for me as well, since I started in 2014~2015 and have been on-and-off since. I do know things since I've tried digging up this stuff even tho a lot of it was deleted (I went to LiveJournal of all places.. I'm too young for that!! TTOTT No legit idk how that site's supposed to work Fam) and I am friends with old VIPs that have been around since 2008-2010-2012 but they very casually and/or didn't shipped GTOP, and were iVIPs, so I can only ask them to confirm receipts, like the fact that GD really DID post the words "Take Me (I'm Yours)" to his Instagram in 2014 and that was a REAL thing he did and therefore a valid receipt that this song is for Seunghyun. So yeah.

I don't think they were dating pre-debut and honestly do believe that 2010 was the year they actually started dating each other. I think so for a few reasons, here's the ones I remember: GD&TOP volume one was written in 2010; GTOP fan service shifted dramatically in 2009 and in that year Ji even (allegedly from the fan accounts and discussion I was able to recover) got pissed at shippers, especially Topnyong, EVEN THO he started Nyongtory (yes, he started it... unfortunately... gosh Ri you f-cking RAT).. honestly GD's fan service is unmatched. He later changed his mind and liked shippers again (obviously) but his sudden and brief shift in opinion is interesting.. especially since GTOP had very nice fan service and real moments (but like.. since Ji had a crush on Tabi.. it was more like GD service lmfao.. check out pre dating GTOP it's GLORIOUS) which changed and later reduced dramatically; Tabi dated a different woman per-debut, he 100% was with her and even spoke about her (while Ji looked like he wanted to jump off a cliff)(honestly she looked like Hyori Lee, Tabi's celebrity crush (he has a GIANT crush on this woman, y'all Tabi is y/n he got to kiss his celeb crush on stage TTOTT)) AND he most likely also dated Shin Min-Ah from 2008~late 2008/2009, so he was taken before 2010. There's other stuff but honestly, Tabi being taken is a big indication that this was all Ji being in love (and maybe Tabi subconsciously).

(I've read fan accounts from iVIPs since they share, and unfortunately most iVIPs I've been able to encounter (more like encounter their posts lol) started after 2010. Omfg I read one talking about how she spent a week stalking BB alongside kVIPs and was "shocked" at how close GTOP were and kVIPs just shrugged and said "They have a special relationship".. and another one from a Dutchie (who threw her morals out the window real quickly when she got the chance) where she exclaimed that they were "CLOSE CLOSE CLOSE" in all caps and that Tabi spent all his time around men and avoided the women completely XP These are fan accounts so mind you, you never know with them.. but goddammit there were so many GTOP fan accounts of them being close, these are the ones that got stuck in my head, it's a lot, and many of them didn't really ship GTOP either.. also bragging about being low key crazy and then lying about what you saw is a low I pray nobody has reached). A LOT of GTOP content is gone, it isn't even funny. hi ! first of all thank you SOOOOOO much that means sm to me it genuinely makes me so happy to know that you enjoy my writing. !!

speaking of writing..it took me a while to figure out a system i was comfortable with. i'm a little all over the place in general and that translates a lot in my drafts ESPECIALLY LMFAOO if you caught one glance at my drafts it's mostly just a prompt of a few sentences and w spelling mistakes in every word cus i write them down so fast so as not to forget them LMFAOOO. but it really works for me !

i know a lot of people say it but it really works, literally just write ! it doesn't have to come out as a full beautifully crafted piece immediately, just write down anything you can and polish it up all you want later ! forcing inspiration to come to you almost always has the opposite effect, for me anyways !

for flow, i think i like to mostly write dialogue between characters out first and then write my descriptions and actions around that ! i always get more excited about writing dialogue more than descriptions (not that those can't be fun ofc !)

oh , this might help for imagery ! and idk if you've noticed but the structure of a lot of my writing is heavily based on animes and manga. like the set ups and punchlines. (massive nerd ik) like if you read some of my one shot's like this one, this one (probably one of my fav fics i've done btw) or my first born series FBRC, (especially this part) (this part was actually the one i was most excited to write, and it's heavily based off of kobayashi's dragon maid's actual good and not weird moments and soundtrack, listening to music also helps me out a lot too!)

i try to model my speech to what i think an anime episode of the scenario i thought about would look like. visualizing my writing helps me write a lot as well, if that helps ! a little fun fact for you, fujimoto's writing has influenced a lot of the way i describe situations in fics, since i really like the sorta 'childish' descriptions over super fancy ones (cus i can't write those, but i don't really like them veerry much, but a lot of them are enjoyable to read!!) i find it very endearing and it's one of the reasons why i enjoy writing childhood friends to lovers so much. it's this sorta simplistic level of thinkin that kids have if that makes sense and it works out really well if you wanna write fluffy pieces if that makes sense

some examples ! :

"he drags you around a little too hard but it's to show you something he knows you'd like and you repay him by being patient with him and letting him drag you around to his hearts content. he let’s you use the crayons he’d just denied another classmate seconds ago and when it’s really early in the morning and you’re still sleepy unlike your more energetic friend, he waits for you. sitting with you in the reading corner quietly commenting on a little bit of everything in the book you’re sharing until you’re awake enough to start the day because katsuki wanted you to be together through anything no matter what, starting the day without you was simply unimaginable."

"despite his quieter presence he always seemed to stand out to you. his bag is big enough to carry everything he needs without having to shove anything inside or leaving it half opened. he wipes his mouth with a tissue after he's done eating his lunch alone and his handwriting is pretty. his lashes are long and he's pretty."

"you hated it when people said that because the shoto you knew wasn't like that. he knew people talked about him and he hated being associated with his father. he likes the caramel you sneak in for him at school and you like the way his eyes light up when he guesses the flavour of fruit candies you make him taste. the shoto you know that ties your shoes for you and shares his umbrella with you, the one who half heartedly stomps into wet puddles with you, the one with the pretty lashes and pretty smile and pretty handwriting isn't like that."

there are a lot of other examples (im OBSESSED with this trope can you tell.) i like these sorts of simplistic childish ways of love. tiny little specks of affection that make the heart so much fonder in such little big ways..if that makes sense :>

i dunno if im just very..special, but since i have a lot of oc's and scenarios constantly flowing in my brain, most of my ideas just tend to be what i dreamed about the night before, or what i daydreamed about LMAOO. even random things that happened to me at school sorta go from "oh it would be funny if this happened to [insert character]" and then they snowball into more and more thorough ideas !

and of course as cheesy as it is the most important part is to have fun ! i cannot stress enough how important it is to be in the mindset when you're writing. it's like when people say to force yourself to draw so you don't 'lose it.' and i do think it can work to jog inspiration, but i believe that as long as you enjoy it, you'll never truly lose it. so i say, write when you feel like it and don't write if you don't, it can truly be very draining. but it's all up to what feels better for you !

Holy crap, Prince of Death is such a tour de force! The attention to detail, the world-building, the intense drama, the raw emotions - it's all just stunning. 

Admittedly, I know almost nothing about DBZ, and you've done a fantastic job weaving just enough background into the narrative for the uninitiated while making it your own for this universe at the same time. The blend of fantasy and sci-fi on display is so yummy and rich to devour.

And Max just needs the biggest hug, ugh. At least he's together with Charles... (for now?!) - tho, I can already picture the angst and drama ahead when Max wakes up - poor thing bears the weight of duty so heavily and personally (and honorably).

And Alonso - omg!! Love how he calls Max out for his shit, protects him, teaches him, just - everything about him in his role in this AU is gold.

Hopefully Carlos stops being a little punk - maybe once he realizes that Alonso has also sent his prince to the same destination that he set for Charles (which I'm dying to see where that it is, btw - with pop culture in my head, I can see anything from Dagobah to Hoth to Vormir to... even Mars lol - whatever you choose, I know it will be great), or once Carlos has an inevitable reconciliation and he sees just compatible Max & Charles truly are... such potential! ✨

I did have higher hopes for George, ugh. He should know better than to follow in his master's vile footsteps, but otherwise, he makes for a rich villain. And that's to say nothing of Jos - you've done an excellent job making him truly repulsive with his physical & emotional abuse in the name of controlling Max. And I absolutely cannot wait for him to get his just deserts - to be on the receiving end of Max letting the full force of his power loose, hair & eyes flaming as he unleashes raw fury - oh, please, please, let it be so! (Tho, no matter how Jos goes down, it will still be infinitely rewarding).

I've really tried my hardest to explain things thoroughly and adapt the universe to make it my own, so I'm glad people aren't like . . . wtf are you talking about? 😅

Alonso is so amazing and fit this roll perfectly in my head, I'm glad it's translating on paper. While he's not Max's or Charles' real dad, he's the father they both deserve.

Carlos is in for some major transformation of character in part 2 as well as George. Those two need some growth and perspective, and they will be getting both (for better or worse) as the story goes on.

I'm so glad you mentioned the little sneak peak I gave for Max's potential in ch 12! I didn't get a lot of comments on it, but in his rage and grief, trying to protect himself, he tapped into something that he will need to find again later. Now, did he find it because it was about Charles? Or has he always had it and just couldn't break through 👀 Regardless, there will be more exploration in part 2.

Max is having the hardest time the poor baby! But you are right . . . when he wakes up 👀 He is so confused lol. In fact, enjoy a little piece:

A soft surface beneath him felt strangely comforting against his back, but the sight of the stars whizzing by outside the familiar red-tinted glass disoriented him. 

The robotic feminine voice of the scouting pod continued to drone on in the background, its words barely registering as Max struggled to make sense of the situation. 

“. . . initiating vapor bath reversal protocol. You are now one parsec away from your destination. . . ”

Limbs moving slowly, body trying to regain control, Max felt the seat surface behind him gently rise, before lowering again. His heart skipped a beat as he realized he was in the scouting pod meant for Charles to flee Jos’ base ship.

Stunned, Max whipped around to discover that the soft surface his back had been resting against was Charles’ chest, still moving gently with each slow breath. 

Relief flooded through him when he spotted the Eldri resting behind him, still unconscious, but seemingly unharmed.

His relief was short-lived, when the memories of the launch deck came rushing back.
