"Hey, Will?"
"... hmm?"
"Name one child of Hades who was happy."
"..."
"You can't."
"I can't."
"... I'll tell you a secret."
"Tell me."
"I'm gonna be the first. Swear it."
"Why me?"
"Because, you're the reason."
"Swear it."
"I swear it."
"I swear it."

''I would recognise you in total darkness, were you mute and I deaf. I would recognise you in another lifetime entirely, in different bodies, different times. And I would love you in all of this, until the very last star in the sky burnt out into oblivion,''

James Potter was brought up with a supportive family, raising him with healthy ideals and coping skills. He was shown how to love and be loved, feelings always being expressed. It was okay to cry. To breakdown. To feel like you were unworthy, when you truly aren’t.
But this was his limit. Tasks upon tasks brought to him, overwhelming him before he could think. It wasn’t anyone’s fault really. Just simple favors. But the thought that they were all on the same day, at the same time, with the same people made him want to faint.
So, he ran. Out to the courtyard, passing people who called after him. He waved his hand to dismiss them, not caring if it was rude. All the emotions hit at once.
James fell to his knees, tears clouding his vision. Taking comfort under a tree, he hugged his knees to his chest.
“Potter, what are you-?” a familiar voice called, stopping abruptly at the sight of him. Regulus. “What-”
“I’m fine! I’m fine!” he tried to sound cheery, but his voice cracked and another tear fell down his cheek.
Regulus debated on what to do, his gaze awkwardly flickering away from James’s gaze. He had never been good with empathy.
“Can you just.. stay with me? Just for a bit, I know you hate this..” James asked, bringing his tear stained face to his knees again. “You don’t have to say anything.”
The Slytherin boy didn’t hesitate this time, sitting down beside him as close as he could. His slightly cold hand patted James’s back, trying to be soothing.
That did wonders for James’s overthinking mind, grounding him to reality. “Can you promise to not tell anyone about this?”
Regulus understood. He had been in the same boat before, the depths of his mind being the water it resided on. “I promise.”
“Swear it,” James’s voice wavered, trying to revert to his humorous manner. His pinky stuck out, waiting for Regulus to take it.
“I swear it,” Regulus nodded, intertwining his pinky with James, who finally brought his head up to smile.
“I swear it,” James echoed, knowing that he would never be able to share this side of his star with anyone yet.
