The Sacred One Speaks - By Roju (8.5/10)
Tumblr media
An evil witch turns against her own people to save herself. That's what it looks like on the surface, but evil isn't so easily defined in this story. The witch corrupts. The greatest holy knight becomes her obsessed puppet, but the tragic thing is she's not doing anything evil on purpose. She is trapped by her fate and blood, and she wants her awful bloodline to end with her.
McClatt is on a mission. He has to go on a witch hunt. The witches can control beasts, and they sew chaos whenever they settle down. His side is holy. They have the holy blue flame! Said flame totally isn't demonic, and the head of the holy nation definitely doesn't have questionable magical powers.
Their side is pure and chosen by God.
He has never questioned that.
Tumblr media
McClatt is a devoted and pure servant. He has never once questioned his bloodthirsty mission, because the witches do act stereotypically evil. The holy leader, who totally isn't part devil himself, encourages McClatt to keep going. To keep killing. To keep using the blessed blue flame.
Tumblr media
The duplicitous holy head of the nation seems to think McClatt will crumble. The strongest witch will reveal her evil self soon. She is a rallying cry. A figurehead, just like him. Her presence makes the witches stronger and more tenacious.
He is sending McClatt after a target that could kill him.
Tumblr media
The Great Witch has red eyes. Her ability to control beasts is absolutely unparalleled. In fact, her power extends to humans. Her red eyes are hypnotic. She can turn men, women, and children into her slaves by looking at them.
As long as a Great Witch from the strongest magical bloodline exists the witches will never give up.
Tumblr media
McClatt goes to a witch hideout to execute every witch within, except the red one. They need to execute the red one publicly, to break the spirit of the witch army. McClatt is confused when he finds the camp in shambles.
The Great Witch has abandoned her people...
He slaughters everyone he can get his hands on, and yet the greatest witch does not appear.
The witches cry, when they realize they will not be saved from the blue flame.
Tumblr media
The Great Witch, Vienny, is found and dragged out by guards. Ash flies and more bodies bleed, but she doesn’t look all that sad. Her body is covered with scars, and she doesn't seem to feel any affection for the witches who worship her.
McClatt is instantly doomed.
As soon as he sees her he no longer wants to execute her.
Tumblr media
The Great Witch goes back to his territory with him without a fight. His guards are confused. They saw the Great Witch during the battle. She was there. She stood in the shadows. She watched her Witch sisters die, and she laughed. She threw her head back and laughed joyously while McClatt beheaded them all.
Tumblr media
McClatt investigates. Vienny is powerful...but her magic is in her blood. I think you know where this is going. Ritualistic sacrifice. Selfish worship. Pain. The witches that supposedly worship Vienny were using her like a blood bag. Also, her special blood ruined any chance she had to be happy.
There can only ever be one Great Witch.
The special blood is so powerful that it can only exist in one body.
Vienny's mother despises her, because Great Witches lose their power when they have a child. The special blood always lives inside the youngest bloodline member.
Vienny has not been blinded by the cult.
She doesn't want to sacrifice herself anymore.
Tumblr media
She offers him information. Locations. Secret hideouts. She wants every witch gone, including herself. She had lived a life of pain and suffering for too long. McClatt sends a doctor and Vienny is encrusted with festering wounds. The Great Witch was treated like a barn animal by her own people, since childhood. She slowly heals by his side. She thinks he can end her fate. End the cult, and she wants to die knowing there will never be another Great Witch.
Tumblr media
Slight problem.
McClatt is in worshipful, lustful love with her. He thinks she is controlling his brain at first, but she says that's not true.
...he's just crazy.
The holy pope notices his feelings and um...he basically tells McClatt to have a kid with her. Then she won't have her powers. Then he can control her and keep her as his wife. Also...the pope wants the baby so he can use the Great Witch magic to make his nation stronger.
Wow.
If I was Vienny I'd be depressed too.
McClatt probably isn't going to give the hypothetical baby to the pope, but that's messed up.

real talk: lxl should continue to explore romance fantasy concepts in their songs. it’s clearly working for them~
#typical prince aesthetics in romeo/julieta and nonfan… and now historical rofan in meoto…#(and there’s also whatever’s going on in tsuki no hime but that has no mv :( sadge)#sorry guys i still have meoto on the brain pls suffer with me~~~~~~~~~#but mannnnn. i was struck by sudden inspiration for a meoto au a n d#well. ig now i understand why they skipped over the falling in love phase. romance is hardddd#i want to subscribe to the meoto expansion pack p l s i need to know what their deal is~~~~#bc man. how in the world did they go from complete indifference to promising to stay together forever hello#what happened???????? excuse???????????#man. m a n. ok i think im done for the night. i hope#LXL MEOTO CRISIS 2K24#(but if anyone here wants to get into the otome isekai genre in general… i recommend starting off with ✨s u r v i v i n g r o m a n c e✨#(it’s a great story and it’s still modernised enough to ease into the genre. and after that…)#(you can just go for the series with the most interesting premise/prettiest art/both tbh)#(though i personally recommend ✨the perks of being an s class heroine✨ ✨the villainess’s stationery shop✨ for milder content)#(and there’s also some series with both isekai and regression.)#(like they isekai after their 1st life in 20xx-> live out their 2nd life in the fantasy world -> regress to a point in their 2nd life)#(for that type i kinda like ✨i shall master this family✨ though ngl i’m mostly reading it bc i think the aunt is very pretty)#(a nd there’s the occasional modern regression story but that’s pretty soap drama-esque and the one i read got ridiculous at times lmao)#(but ofc the ones with less romance focus are fun too~~~~ like stories with multiple isekai-ed people for one)#(b u t i digress i think i’ll stop here before i lose the plot any longer ahaha~~~~)

The progression of the “Villainess” trope
Y'know, thinking about it, it's very ironic how a trope made to subvert one's expectations & give more depth to 1 dimensional villains in cliche novels by "humanizing" them more & providing their side of the story, eventually became oversaturated with cartoony villains & flat MCs. Thus, completely failing in its goal to "subvert expectations" as it too turned into mind numbing cliche, becoming the exact opposite of what the troupe initially aimed to achieved.
I am talking about "Villainess" series.
I remember seeing a twitter post a while back saying how a lot of the villainess stuff the authors & studios are putting out nowadays lack any sort of nuance when it comes to its characters. And how a lot authors simply switch the roles of the cast (Like: OG MC -> villain | OG villain -> MC) & call it a day. And I 100% agree with that.
This troupe kinda ended up becoming the dictionary definition of the saying, "You either die as a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become a villain” lmao
What could've been an opportunity to write nuanced villains & morally ambiguous main characters, turned EXACTLY into the cliche it was pocking fun at.
In an attempt to reveal how the MCs of your typical cliche novels can also be in the wrong at times, flaws that the story & its (in-canon) fandom may purposefully ignore, the villainess stories ended up doing EXACT SAME thing EXECPT this time it's the "villains" doing it rather than the OG FL or OG ML of the “OG novel”. In an attempt to stop cliche villains from remaining cliche, while we did ended up getting slightly more nuance for the “OG villain” characters, in the process, the OG MCs turned exactly into those flat cliche villains.
Alot of villainess series poke fun at the troupes they themself use, but not in a satirical way.
So many villainess series poke fun at the OG novels for being problematic or stupid & the fandom of said novels basically ignoring its flaws & problems, only gushing over the OG FL. Which yea, is nice & all, but y'know... that's exactly what those villainess series do too. SO MANYY of them borderline have the FLs participating in literal slavery. & More often than not have a borderline colonizer ML. Not to mention the numerous which carry weird undertones of colorism, and many such other things. All the while, the fandom of these villainess series continue to ignore their glaring problems & flaws & instead just gush over the FL and ML.
And I'm not even saying this in a hating sort of way (well, aside from the series with issues of colorism, orientalism, etc). Moreover, this is all not to say that one can not enjoy such stories, because admittedly, there is indeed fun in just reading a simple and familiar story line. But this is all more me being intrigued by this trope’s almost ironic progression as companies rush their staff to produce something which they think will be able to ride the waves of the current trends, only for the vast majority to simply drown in a sea of mediocrity (with many even being canceled due to this)
[Though I mean, something as simple as villainess tropes won’t be the only one to go through this. Like a lot of Shakespearean works, a subversion of the classics & typical troupes back then, got turned into ones of those classics and by many are now considered cliche. And that's just scrapping the bottom of the barrel!]

I get hit by Truck-kun, Now I'm screwed!: I don't like it here. It's cold, and wet, and in Historical Europe, and there's Yanderes everywhere.
You are, well technically, were a typical 21st century girl that fell into the rabbit hole of otome isekai manhwa while bored on a rainy Sunday afternoon—And you got hooked. You have read through anything you could get your sleep-deprived hands on, yes even the downright illiterate incoherent translations on some website that shall not be named because you were desperate to see what happens next. You were walking down the street just reading the latest chapter of your latest interest, really, just walking down some normal sidewalk to your nearest grocery store for an errand for your mother.
Then you heard someone scream, you turned to see that a truck speeding down the highway out of control—And problem is, it was headed straight towards you.
You should’ve moved or something. But you just stood there like a deer in headlights.
“Hey kid, get out of the way—!” Then it went dark.
.. … ….
“!”
You woke up. With a splitting headache but woke up and alive regardless. “I did just get hit by a truck..” you murmured, looking around your surroundings. Well this is odd. you thought to yourself getting up. ‘The hospital room is looking raaaather grand today...’ you realized, looking at the room you found yourself in. The large ceiling tall windows let in the sunlight, with velvet curtains as the stray rays reflected off the intricate furniture. All of it was screaming luxury, and expensive and then you started to fear for you and your wallet.
“Dang, I suuure hope the hospital bill won’t cost me returning my arms and legs.” you joked, laughing to yourself. Like an insane person. “Yeah, maybe the truck did help let some screws loose.” you admit to no one in particular as you wiggle your fingers and toes. Yep, perfect condition. Maybe you were better off crippled or dead—
You look around the room to find a mirror to inspect yourself in—to check if you really had to work till old age to pay back your debt. Ignoring the fact your head felt like it was gonna explode, you force yourself out of the soft covers on the cold floor. Strange… you felt a lot shorter than you remember. “Maybe the doctors really had to work on me.” you rationalized, dreading how much that’d cost you.
You carefully walk around the extravagant room, tip toe-ing lest you break any of the expensive looking decor, which could send you literal years into debt…. You better watch out for that aquamarine vase then. “Oof..!” you made a head dive barely catching it before it could shatter to a million sad little pieces on the ground. Along with your life savings. “Whew…”
You carefully put it back, making sure it won’t tumble and fall before sighing in relief—That is until you saw a big mirror mounted on the wall, perfectly mounted to flatter the room and make it look more spacious than it already is. The frame was intricate, warm golden and had designs that reminded you of rococo when you went down a rabbit hole of historical desig—you’re getting off topic...!
That being said, The problem wasn’t the mirror itself, no! Course not. The problem is what you saw in the mirror… You. “Is.. that me..?” you mumbled to yourself, startled and absolutely shell-shocked, oh I mean shell-shocked! When the girl mimicked your movements.
Oh.
Oh no.
You immediately paced around the room, pinching yourself, slapping yourself, looking around the room to see if things would get distorted if you looked hard enough. “Oh, no, no,no,nonononono—”
You were screwed, doomed even. To damnation.
Now you’ve read your fair share of manhwa, you even consider yourself an expert in the field. But you see… That's also the reason for your demise. You’ve read so many so many of them all the plots started to fuse together into one big amalgamation that you still eat up every time. You forget plot points, male love interests, you even forget the main characters’ own names! Defaulting to nicknames like ,the mc, black haired one, the prince etc. Ah.. to reap the consequences of your own hubris—You slap yourself back into focus mode.
So you currently have two cards against you:
A ) You were chucked into this world with no warning whatsoever at the hands of truck-kun B ) You don’t even know which story you are in, which plot, and what even happens to you because your brain cells just ate everything they could find their hands on.
“Well, technically I have another weakness… since I barely have ¼ of the average isekai mc’s IQ” Wow. way to go you are such an optimist.
Unfortunately for you, your little existential crisis was interrupted by a loud knock on the door. “My lady?” a voice calls out, noticeably female. And old. Probably a maid.
Shoot.

We Got Ourselves Stuck Inside an Adult Fantasy Novel - By Hyeyong (4/10)
Tumblr media
Isekai trash only. You will not be able to comprehend this story unless you're already familiar with isekai and reincarnation plots. It does not care. All three protagonists are friends, and they take over a fantasy world together. Their greed and lust gets them nothing but praise and victory. The men have less personality than usual. Max trash.
We start out with a fangirl.
She wakes up as a heroine. I'm using the "real" names because this whole story is just roleplay. Siyeon does not care about her role as heroine. She only cares about hot faces and romance. She's been trying to convince her friends to read isekai for years and that's her whole personality.
She's the one who attracts the yandere prince.
Tumblr media
She doesn't go alone. Her two best friends that are not interested in isekai come with her. There is no shame whatsoever here. All three women collectively do not care. They just decide to live life to the fullest as rich aristocratic ladies. Apparently none of them have children, friends or family. Nobody thinks about their past life unless it's a bad memory, because living in a fantasy world is soooo superior.
Tumblr media
Yein is the hot villainess. She leaves for the countryside. She really struggled in the real world. She is a sadist. She's into extreme BDSM. She could never find a partner because she was never completely honest, and her male partners always left when she suddenly changed in the bedroom.
She buys a buff slave, and she makes him her submissive servant. It's hella toxic and she ignores every BDSM safety rule.
She is a high lady who can do whatever.
God even gives the three ladies phones, so they can chat.
Yein goes to the countryside because she doesn't...say it with me...care (about anything but BDSM)
Tumblr media
Jiwon becomes the top aide for the prince. She loves money and she loves power. She sets Sihyeon up with the prince. She knows Sihyeon will be happy as a spoiled fantasy bride, and if the prince goes yandere....she can control the kingdom while he's busy locking her up.
It's funny, but nobody in universe is taking this seriously. It feels fake.
Tumblr media
It's beyond parody.
Terris is a "Standard Yandere Prince ML"
Black hair. Red eyes. He killed his siblings to take the throne. He's strong, smart but not well liked because he's feared. He has few friends...you've met this man twenty times...or you don't get the meta joke and this story isn't for you.
Meta humor is annoying. Don't worry this won't get a high rating no matter what, because every page is a cheap laugh and the BDSM play is questionable.
Tumblr media
He looks like this.
Please note this kind of appearance is a running joke in the OI Fandom. Lots of fans laugh at the factory produced ML's like this one, but it's a reaaaallllyyyy stale and tired joke.
The whole story is stale.
Tumblr media
He kidnaps Sihyeon and he proposes because....because....um she likes him??? And he likes to be liked???
Tumblr media
He is actually yandere we do get crazy scenes with him. He does give more power to Jiwon. Controlling Sihyeon becomes his new hobby.
The yandere scenes get consistently ruined by tired jokes it's a snorefest.
Tumblr media
He thinks he's the number 1 mastermind but Jiwon is behind him pulling the strings.
....it all feels very safe and sassy.
Haha it's funny cuz of course a yandere that gets too obsessed would lose power lollll...
It gets old after like five chapters.
Tumblr media
Sihyeon is in the gilded prison of her dreams. She's a social butterfly, so she makes lots of friends. She gets to wear the frilly dresses she has always admired. She's a noble adult woman, so after she marries she doesn't have to worry about her family much. They don't even show up. Terris never does anything unexpected and this is an "adult" book, so she has fun every day.
It's a happy and twisted ending.
All three women role play, drink, hang out and use handsome men forever.
I absolutely despise every single one of them.
They are the most unlikable protagonists I've seen this year.

i will (very respectfully) ask you for it
just a tiny crumb, only if possible,,, the prettiest pretty please 🙌✨❤
I respect you and your decision to ask for this off anon. This is the homebrewed fantasy AU (based off @boss-the-goofball's fantasy otome isekai prequel) featuring Demon Lord of Evil All for One and 'Bro, Seriously? This Guy?' Knight Torino.
in-universe context: AfO is a Demon Lord who fell off the radar a long time ago. He's passing as a human but the bulk of his divinity (really love religious terminology; I'm gonna be accused of blasphemy someday) is in the sword that Sorahiko agrees to carry/ferry to the 'vault'.
wc: 1,615 | rated: a mild m but i'm tagging as lemon for decency's sake
//
Ever since those loathsome paladins of One for All started dispelling the curses and cultic practices that All for One had embedded into the lands long ago, there was a distinct decline of zealots vying for his attention. Gone were the acolytes who dreamt of having him as a patron; exiled (if not summarily executed) were the cultists who praised his generosity and lavished him with their worship. The world had learned to treat All for One as taboo, and as useful as it was to be the unspoken embodiment of evil, it was also just that: unspoken.
Unspoken, then unacknowledged. The consequence of being deliberately ignored (forgotten!) is his current reduced nature: he’s still more than a mortal, but he’s also become nearly as vulnerable as one.
“Are you testing me?” Torino demands. The hedge knight dogs All for One’s footsteps as All for One leads the way back to an old follower’s home. That follower is dead, but property is eternal, and All for One’s claim never fades.
“Why would I do that?”
“I don’t know. Maybe so you could get off on seeing your damn sword in action. Not that you could’ve seen much, considering your position in that mess was directly underneath a dogpile of idiots.” A brief pause, and then Torino says in resignation, “Except you didn’t have to see it.”
“I feel it all,” says All for One smugly. “You wield the blade well.”
“Oh, so you were getting off on it.”
“And there’s the romance of the whole encounter, gone,” he laments. Just as they reach the door, too!
Located on the outskirts of the village, his old follower’s home is a rough-hewn hut surrounded by overgrown bushes. There is no light shining from within, no smoke exiting the mud-and-stone column protruding from the roof. Somewhere in the dirt, All for One can sense a buried idol that wards off any do-gooder’s attempt at arson.
All for One pushes at the wood, sweeping an arm out in a gesture for Torino to step in first.
“A real lightning bolt of attraction,” Torino says, dry, and instead of agreeably following All for One’s direction, he stops in front of his (well, it’s not locked in just yet, but All for One can seal this deal; the blade is just one aspect of several for Torino to truly become his champion) patron and tilts his head. Their eyes meet.
There’s blood on his face still, streaking up from a stubbled jaw and staining the arch of his nose. A few abrasions mar the overall visage, but overall…
All for One smiles. He’s always been partial to those who spilled blood for him.
“What are we doing here?”
“Resting,” he answers, innocent. “After all, we’ve made enemies among the villagers. You can’t pay for a room until they, hm, forget the beating you’ve delivered.”
Torino’s eyebrows draw together in a clear, if silent, curse. His thin mouth tightens into a bloodless line, and then he blows out a rough sigh. “The owner?”
“Long dead.”
“... Provisions?”
All for One blinks down at his knight. “You’re here.”
“Ah,” says Torino, sounding as though puzzle pieces have finally slotted into place. Whatever revelations have occurred in Torino’s head, they certainly haven’t come from All for One, who is now dearly wishing for that mental backdoor access. One step at a time, though. Torino’s only just promised to bear the sword to the vault.
If he plays his cards right, he can tempt Torino a little further down.
“It's a shelter from the elements,” he says.
“And only that,” Torino mocks.
“I offered you what I have. See what I’ve lost now?” All for One reaches for Torino’s forehead--an old habit--and deftly switches tracks to card the silver hair with his fingers. And Torino lets him. “All my tributes, my riches, oh, they all claimed it was going to be redistributed. But then they said it was cursed, and they hoarded it for themselves.”
“Because you parted with your gold so easily.”
“I made exchanges based on equal value.”
“So in your eyes, is this shelter worth my tender love and care?” Torino glances at the sparse interior--a hearth, a cobwebbed cauldron, a dusty bed with moth-eaten covers--and looks back at All for One with a challenging stare. The sting of his question fails to hurt, though. A part of All for One exults at the phrase ‘tender love and care.’
“Not alone,” says All for One slyly. “Why, you’ve been given the whole package, Sir Torino. The weapon, the house, and the god, all at your disposal.” With his hand at Torino’s nape, he draws him forward until their chests make contact, and All for One bends his own neck in order to give Torino a kiss.
Torino makes a noise, somehow startled in spite of all the signals having been sent his way. His hands go to grasp at All for One’s waist. He kisses back tentatively, then hungrily. As All for One pulls away for air, Torino takes the opportunity to urge him into the hut, kicking the door shut behind them.
“Air’s not as stale as I expected.”
“Mm,” he hums, distracted by the influx of power. It’s quick to recede, so All for One’s using it fast to make this living space more bearable. Cycling a sharp, cold breeze to kill any small, leggy intruders is the first item on his agenda.
“You’re doing something,” Torino realizes aloud, and he follows that profoundly redundant statement with an explorative trail of his mouth to All for One’s throat. Breathed against that flesh, Torino says, “Is it the action, or the intention?”
“It’s more fun when it’s both.” The deflection earns him teeth, almost immediately soothed by a tongue, and All for One clutches at Torino’s neck with a gasp. “Bed. Now.”
“What, you’re not going to fuss about the sheets?”
“Torino.”
“I don’t have supplies,” Torino says, a hint of warning entering his tone. “Give me more time in the next town, and maybe I’ll get away with more than a jar of salt.”
“If you’re following along,” All for One retorts, “then you can predict how I’ll fix it.”
The thing is, All for One thinks as he takes a step back, Torino does follow along. He’s grasped that worship isn’t just for ego’s sake. But if All for One spells it out, Torino will act contrary just to poke fun at the Demon Lord of Evil.
Closer to the bed. He thinks of undressing himself, but Torino’s pointed question holds true: All for One does want to fuss about the sheets. So instead he sits on top of the covers and watches Torino shuffle off his traveling gear: the boxy pack, the cloak, and the belts attached to the sheath of his blade. The boots come off one at a time, and after a moment, so does the top half of his outfit.
“You’re folding your clothes?”
“In the loosest of terms,” Torino says. The linens and the mail are rendered into neat squares sitting on top of the cloak; with no other way to delay the inevitable, Torino finally gives all his attention to All for One.
“Well?” All for One says, imperious in his invitation. He cocks his head and parts his legs.
“I gotta undress you too?”
“Perhaps passion could win out over propriety just this once,” he suggests.
Torino huffs out a laugh, but he approaches All for One without hesitation and climbs into the bed, carelessly tugging the Demon Lord of Evil to the center. For easier access, he rucks up the skirts of All for One’s robe.
“Hey, look at that. You do wear pants.”
“You’ll want to take my shoes off before that.”
The click of a tongue is hardly a reprimand, not when Torino so agreeably catches one of All for One’s legs and starts feeling for the seam where the hems were tucked into a road-worn boot. He drags a nail over the bunched fabric when he finds it, and is terribly gentle while pulling linen from leather.
It feels like worship, for all that Torino says no prayers.
All for One basks in it. His vision blurs slightly, going out of focus as Torino occupies himself with divesting All for One of his shoes and pants. The flow of power is only a trickle, and this mortal vessel can’t even hoard it, so he has to use it now. Priorities, priorities… definitely the bed first.
Using magic to mend and launder fabric would have earned his ridicule once, but it’s not as though All for One has the capacity to weave it anew just this second. He thinks longingly of the fine things lost from his castle: the furnishings, the meals, the painted-black plates of armor his armies donned to induce fear.
“Still here?”
With a start, All for One feels the cold air brush against bare skin. There are hands stroking up and down his legs, and Torino shuffles closer on his knees. Power licks through his veins like a dog slavering for its first meal of the day.
Half-dazed, he says, “Yes,” and, “More.”
“Greedy,” Torino accuses, and even though it’s not the vow of devotion that All for One starves for, it’s a shade closer to fondness than Torino would probably perish before admitting. His knight digs his fingers against the pliant flesh of All for One’s thighs, bites his throat hard enough to earn a gasping moan. “Selfish.”
“You’re here to please your god,” All for One manages.
“Aren’t I,” says Torino, and he slides his mouth against All for One’s in a rough kiss.
